The night is colder than you had expected. Rain pours down, turning the narrow forest path into a slippery mess as you stumble your way through. You're used to traveling alone by now, but tonight feels different- your steps echo in the dark, and something about the shadows flickering along the path puts you on edge. You're not alone.
Then, a rustle- a shadow darts in front of you, barely visible before it strikes. A demon.
In the split second before it lunges, you barely register its clawed form or the red gleam of its eyes. Instinct alone has you stumbling back, your heart pounding as you fumble for something, anything, to protect yourself. But the creature is already upon you, a low snarl escaping its lips as it closes in.
And then, after a flash of movement and a rush of wind, it's gone.
Your vision fills with a flash of blue was water flows gracefully through the air, shimmering even in the dim light. In the instant before the rain hides it, you catch a glimpse of a blade slicing cleanly through the demon's neck, water scattering in a perfect sweep while the creature crumbles to ash.
Before you can fully understand what's happened, you lock eyes with the figure standing before you- a man, too calm to be real, lowers his sword with deadly grace. He has a face as still as the night itself, eyes bright blue and piercing as he looks down at the place where the demon fell. In the heavy moment of silence that follows, he turns to you, and something strange flickers across his expression, like a shadow.
Then, his gaze shifts to your wrist. You follow his line of sight, blinking as you notice the unexpected: the soulmark on your wrist, the strange, faintly glowing symbol resembling the kanji for water, is gleaming softly under the rain from his previous attack.
He freezes, eyes narrowing as he lifts his own wrist slightly. And there it is- the same mark, glowing faintly through his damp sleeve.
"What...?" you breathe, staring at him in awe. "You... you have it too? The soulmark..."
But he doesn't answer. His expression- which was already guarded- hardens as he shifts away, his gaze growing distant. "Stay away from me," he finally says, his voice low and cold.
"What?" you stammer, stepping closer despite the warning edge in his tone. "But- you just saved me. I don't understand... Who are you?"
"Forget this ever happened," he replies, already turning to leave.
God, that sharpness in his gaze, it's like a wall thrown up between you before you've even had a chance to begin understanding the undeniable connection you two have.
"Go back to where you came from. You don't belong in this."
You scoff at his words, determination flaring despite his tone. "Like hell I don't. Why do you want me to leave? Your mark... How can you pretend it doesn't matter?"
For a moment, he hesitates. The rain has now stopped, but his expression stays as guarded as ever. Finally, he says, "It means you're safer away from me."
"But-"
"Goodbye," he cuts you off. And before you can utter another word, he's gone, disappearing into the shadows like he was never here, leaving you alone with nothing but the faint glow of the mark on your wrist.
Months Later...
You've spent countless hours tracing his steps, following the rumors and whispers from one village to the next, each new lead carrying you closer to the man who saved you and then left without a trace.
The Demon Slayer Corps, people say, though they don't seem to quite know what it is. You've learned to listen carefully, to notice details others overlook, honing a kind of tracking skill you never imagined you'd have.
Finally, you spot him again one evening, leaning against a tree at the edge of a quiet path. When he sees you, he straightens in surprise, his eyes flicking over you with a hardly concealed shock.
"Why are you here?" he asks cautiously. "Why would you go out of your way to follow someone like me?"
"Are you serious? You saved me," you answer, your voice steady even as your heart pounds in your chest. "And because of this," you add, holding up your wrist to show him the mark- the soulmark still etched in your skin. "I don't believe in ignoring something like this. And I can't believe that you would either."
He studies you for a long moment, his expression guarded as it was the first night, but you catch the faintest flicker of something else- maybe curiosity, or perhaps even a reluctant admiration.
"You'll get yourself killed, following someone like me," he says, his tone still distant but a bit softer than before.
"Maybe," you reply, "But if you're here, then I don't think I'll have much to worry about."
The silence stretches as he seems to search for the right words. Finally, he nods softly. "Fine," he mutters, already turning away, "Do what you want, but if you're going to follow, stay close."
The days unfold slowly as you travel together. He doesn't speak often, but you've started learning to read his silences- the way he adjusts his pace to match yours, how he passes subtle glances black when he thinks you're not looking. Despite his silent and intense demeanor, there's a gentleness there, a quiet care sewn into each of his actions.
"Here," he says one evening, holding out his dual-patterned haori as the night air grows colder. You take it, surprised at the warmth that floods you from the fabric, or, maybe from the simple act of his offering it to you. "You'll get sick otherwise," he murmurs, his gaze fixed somewhere past you.
"Thank you, Giyuu," you say, catching his gaze as you wrap the haori around your shoulders. For a moment, you're pretty sure you see something soften in his expression, but he looks away quickly, shrugging it off like it's nothing.
"Don't mention it," he hums, though his gaze lingers a fraction too long before he turns back to the road.
A Few Days Later...
"Like this?" you ask, adjusting your posture awkwardly as you try to mirror the stance he's shown you for self-defense. He studies you critically, then moves closer, reaching out to adjust your shoulders and fix your stance with careful, practiced movements.
"Not quite," he mutters, his breath warm against your cheek as he shifts your balance, steadying your weight. For someone who's usually so cautious about keeping his space, he's awfully close. His warm hands ground you, and for a brief, breathless moment, the world seems to shrink the space even more.
"That's better," he says, his voice even softer not. "Just... keep your balance steady. And stay alert."
"Got it," you manage, heart pounding as you try to focus on his instructions rather than the warmth of his touch.
He lets go, stepping back with an almost hesitant look. "You're reckless enough to follow me, so you should at least know how to protect yourself," he says, his tone rough but edged with a gentleness that makes you smile.
"So... does that mean you don't mind having me around?"
He says nothing, but the corners of his mouth quirk up in the softest smile.
Later That Evening...
When he brings you to a small, quiet house at the edge of a village, you wonder if he intends to leave you there. But instead, he stays, lingering as the sun sets to gold outside.
The woman of the house hands you both a cup of tea, smiling warmly as she sits across from you.
"You have a beautiful home," you say, glancing around the simple, open room.
"Thank you," she answers, nodding softly. She studies you for a moment, a sparkle in her eyes. "You know, I've heard the stories about you, the brave traveler searching for your soulmate. You're quite famous, you know."
"I... I'm not sure I would call myself brave," you chuckle, surprised. "And honestly, I don't think I could've found him without the help of many people like yourself."
She smiles, then turns to Giyuu, who's been quiet since entering the house.
"Thank you," he mutters, avoiding her gaze.
"Mmm, maybe I should give you too a bit of space," she hums, getting up slowly. "Please let me know if there's anything else you need."
You thank her, taking the chance to sip your tea while she leaves the room.
Giyuu studies the floor silently, a thoughtful look on his face.
"You could stay," you say quietly, watching his expression as he debates with himself. There's reluctance there, but also a hint of warmth he so rarely shows. "Just for tonight."
He nods eventually, his posture relaxing a fraction as he looks over at you.
"Yeah," he murmurs, "Just for tonight."
That Night...
The night sky is bright with stars, and the cool air feels wonderful as you step outside for a breath of fresh air. A soft sound catches your attention, and you glance back, noticing a candle flickering faintly from the other room. Giyuu's inside, most likely busy planning where to go next and it isn't your place to interrupt.
You look down at your soulmark, glowing softly through the thin fabric of your shirt. It's grown brighter since meeting him, and the more time you spend with him, the stronger the connection seems to grow.
And, if you're honest with yourself, the more you want to be with him.
Your thoughts drift back to the moment in the forest- the feeling of his hands, his gentle, steady touch- and you wonder what it would be like to have him hold you, to feel his strong body close against yours, his lips against your neck...
Heat rushes to your face, and you shake the thoughts away, taking a deep breath of cool air.
Then, a creak of the door- a soft voice cuts the silence.
"It's late," Giyuu murmurs, walking out beside you.
"Couldn't sleep," you answer, heart pounding at his closeness.
"I noticed. You should have come to find me."
You nod, avoiding his gaze. "I guess I just needed a little fresh air. You're not leaving now, are you?"
He shakes his head, leaning against the porch railing and looking up at the stars. "I'll stay until the morning."
You follow his gaze, watching the stars twinkle in the darkness. It's beautiful, but even the quiet serenity of the night can't hide the tension building in the silence.
"Giyuu," you start, glancing over. "Why did you leave the first time we met?"
He stiffens, the shadows in his gaze returning as his eyes drop to the floor.
"Because... I thought it was for the best."
"Best for who?"
He sighs, running a hand through his hair. "You... I told you that following me was dangerous. It's not easy, traveling like this, constantly on the move, never knowing when you might die."
"Then why do it?"
"Because there are things that must be done," he answers, his voice tight. "And someone has to do them. But you..." He looks up, the soft light of the stars shining in his eyes. "You were safer if we parted ways."
"You'll come back, right? After you do whatever it is you have to do. Right?"
He hesitates, his gaze dropping. "Y/N..."
"Tell me," you cut him off, the intensity of the moment pushing you forward. You grab his wrist, turning it over and brushing aside his sleeve to reveal the mark on his skin- a perfect reflection of your own. "Tell me the truth. Because if you care about this," you motion between the two of you, "even a little, then I need to know."
His eyes widen, surprise flickering in his gaze. But beneath the surface, something shifts, his expression growing pained as the silence stretches between you.
"Yes," he finally admits, his voice rough, "I'm going to come back."
You sigh in relief, but then notice his hesitation. He's still avoiding your gaze, his expression troubled.
"Then why are you looking at me like it's the last time we'll ever meet?"
"I don't want to hurt you."
"How could you possibly-"
"It's not that simple," he cuts in, shaking his head. "This- between us, whatever this is- is new, and strange, and... I have no idea what the hell to do with it. I don't know how to protect someone when they're with me."
"Giyuu, what are you talking about?"
He sighs, his hand curling loosely around the edge of the porch railing. "It's not easy to explain, Y/N."
His jaw tightens as he looks back up to the stars, as if they would have the answer he's searching for.
You step closer, your heart pounding, desperate to break through the wall he’s putting up. “Giyuu,” you say softly, your voice trembling just enough to betray how much you care. “I’m not asking you to know everything. I’m just… asking you to let me stay. To let me be here for you.”
He flinches as though your words strike him, his shoulders sagging slightly to show the weight he's carrying. "You don't understand," he murmurs, "I've seen too many people hurt because of me. Too many people die. I can't-"
“You’re not responsible for everything,” you interrupt, your hand brushing against his arm before you even realize you’ve reached for him. “And you don’t have to go through this alone.”
He looks down at where your fingers rest lightly against his sleeve. "And if you get hurt? If I can't stop it?"
"Then that's a risk I'll take."
He closes his eyes, his breath shaking ever so slightly. "Y/N..."
Your heart pounds as you slide your hand into his, your fingers entwining with his as he looks up in surprise. His eyes meet yours, a mix of emotions- fear, vulnerability, a hint of something else, something deep and warm- flicker through his gaze.
"Don't act like I haven't seen the risks. You saved me before. I know what's out there. But I'm still here. That has to mean something."
His eyes lock on yours, and for a moment, the barriers he's worked so hard to build up begin to crumble. For a long moment, he doesn't move. His eyes search yours, as if trying to find any trace of doubt in your words. And then, slowly, his hand lifts, his fingers brushing against the side of your face with a softness that steals your breath.
"I'm not good at this," he murmurs, his voice raw. "I don't know how to let you in... but I can't seem to stay away from you, either."
His thumb grazes your cheek, and the whole world around you disappears. "Then don't stay away," you whisper.
Something shifts in his gaze- a silent surrender. He leans in, hesitantly at first, his forehead brushing lightly against yours. His breath is warm and the closeness makes your heart race in a way that feels both terrifying and perfect.
"Y/N," he breathes, his voice barely audible, "If you don't tell me to stop, I'm not sure I can hold back."
"I don't want you to."
In the next moment, you're kissing him, a rush of heat sweeping through you at the soft brush of his lips. Your arms wind around his neck, pulling him closer as his arms wrap around your waist, the tension breaking and fading away into something deep and warm. You melt into his embrace, and as the kiss deepens, his arms tighten around you, holding you flush against him.
The kiss feels like a promise- one he's finally allowing himself to make.
When he pulls back, his forehead still resting against yours, his eyes remain closed for a moment as if he's savoring your closeness. When he finally opens them, the intensity of his gaze takes your breath away.
"I'm coming back," he says, the conviction in his voice leaving no room for doubt. "No matter what happens, I'll come back to you."
You smile, your hands sliding down to clasp his. "I'm holding you to that."

Imagine Having A Crush On Sanemi Only To Think He Hates You

Warnings: Sanemi is kinda a jerk but he has good intentions he's just too dumb to realize he's going about things all wrong.
(A/N: Still not dead bit still busy! *sweats nervously* I go through spells where I just don't have the gumption to write and I just haven't had time either but I have a couple to post so yay! I'll try to start writing more cause I love writing I just need more time throughout my days! But enjoy and until next time happy reading!!

You were a skilled swordswoman in the Demon Slayer Corps, though not yet a Hashira. You fought many battles and won several, earning the respect of all the Hashira. They treated you as an equal even the stoic Giyuu and the harsh Obanai. But there was one Hashira that you knew absolutely hated you; Sanemi Shinazugawa. The Wind Hashira was brutal when it came to social interactions with you, knocking you out of the way or completely ignoring you entirely. If you both had missions together he'd try to leave you, he even went as far as slicing you with his own blade when you leapt towards the demon you were dispatched to kill. Without so much as looking back Sanemi raced off chasing the fleeing demon leaving you behind to staunch your own bleeding arm and bandage yourself. Back at the base you asked the Master to not send you and Sanemi on missions together anymore. As soon as you finished speaking he smiled kindly and patted your now scarred arm.
'He's not so bad.'
With that remark the Master had left you alone in shock. Not so bad?! If cutting your own partner wasn't 'bad' then you didn't want to know the Master's definition of bad.
Today you were down, frustrations ran high and it seemed like doom was bearing down upon everyone who vowed to slay demons. You walked the path close to the spring fed creek nearby when you spotted Sanemi trudging along, eyes glazed with murderous intent. You kept on ignoring him continuing on minding your business when he passed by knocking into your shoulder with his making you stumble and almost fall. That was the final straw, spinning around with an open palm you back handed Sanemi making him stumble this time before bunching his unbuttoned uniform in your strong dominant hand.
"What is your freaking problem?!" You screamed frustrations boiling over like an unwatched pot. This time Sanemi looked stunned at your sudden outburst before surprise turned into a sinister grin. The look that made demons cower sent a shiver down your spin but you refused to back down.
"What's my problem? What's yours acting this way towards a Hashira?"
"You know good and well why! I'm sick of you bullying me! Pushing me around, acting like I'm invisible, cutting me!" You threw your scarred arm up. "I don't know why I ever had a crush on you! You are the biggest jerk in history! I don't know why the Master thinks you're so great!"
Once again Sanemi looked stunned, his bad boy persona dropping for a nanosecond.
"A crush huh?"
You blushed looking away from his heated stare. You dropped your hand from his bunched uniform when you noticed the heat of his skin pressing against your bare knuckles. Sanemi sighed and cursed rubbing at the short white hairs on the back of his neck.
"Not anymore," you sniffed turning away as your rage burnt out. Not even five steps from him Sanemi grabbed your arm, you were prepared to hit him when his lips locked onto yours and he squeezed your curves hidden under your uniform. Gasping in surprise Sanemi took his chance, tongue entering your mouth and exploring. You fought against him before melting into his solid form. Once he parted from you he sighed.
"I didn't mean to take it so far," he now looked uncomfortable. "I've liked you too and I know you liked me (Y/N), but I didn't want you to get close to me or feel that way towards me. Bad things happen to those involved with me and having something happen to you I can't bear it. So I tried to run you off, I should have known you would have ended up fighting back." Sanemi chuckled releasing you. "I don't care if you hate me now, it's for the better."
"Sanemi," your voice calling his name excited him but he tamped those feelings down. "I don't hate you but I wish you would have told me instead of trying such cruel means. I may not be a Hashira but I can take care of myself."
After the truth coming to light you couldn't blame Sanemi for not telling you, he struggled with expressing his feelings especially after what happened to him and his brother in their younger days. It still didn't give him the right to be so cruel, but his life had been cruel to him and you knew you could forgive him. Maybe after a little time and with the demise of Muzan ever growing closer the feelings between you two could be discussed again.
"Thank you Sanemi for being honest," you smiled though it was sad.
"Thank you for understanding and I'm sorry. I was very wrong," he bowed in apology.
You bowed in return showing that you accepted and there was no longer hard feelings. Walking away where he couldn't see did you finally let the tears fall.

The next day, Rengoku showed up really early to work, he awkwardly greeted everyone he met with a very polite: good morning or how are you doing? As Giyuu approached to your ex-manager desk, Rengoku said good to morning to him, your friend slightly bowed down to the CEO’s greeting and talked to Mitsuri:
-”Kanroji-san good morning, I wanted to politely ask you for a favor.”- He said making sure that Rengoku wasn’t near enough to listen to their conversation.
-”Oh Tomioka-san good morning, yes. Is it about Y/N?”- She said in a lower voice, covering the side of her mouth with her palm. -“Don’t worry, she texted me earlier this morning and I will be more than glad to help her! Should I print it or via email should be fine?”-
-“Thanks and via email should be fine.” He said with a small reverence -“Also, do you think there would be a problem if I took all the remaining Y/N stuff? Apparently she forgot quite a bunch in her desk.”-
-“Of course dear, no problem at all! These things happen all the time. Just come by whenever you are ready to leave and take them with you! Here, have a box.”-said the pink haired manager. Tomioka thanked her and went back to his normal work day.
On the other hand, Rengoku had a very productive day, he finally understood the dilemma behind the issue you were pursuing and that finding the solution was a very delicate and confusing matter. Once he understood the product functionality, your proposed fixes were actually the most logical options to choose.
The more he understood the situation, the worse he felt; probably he had not been fair to you. “Well, it doesn’ matter anymore, the problem is already fixed and that is what’s important.” He thought, but almost immediately another idea crossed his mind: “But what if there are other problems like these? Who will solve them?” Again, as he was fighting against his own mind, he answered himself: “We can find another employer as capable as her, Mitsuri found her; she can find someone else”.
His thoughts were like violent tides, impacting and opposing each other non stop. He frowned as he felt pressure in his head starting to build up, so trying to clear his mind off he decided to eat something at the cafeteria; something he had never done before. His ruby and amber eyes were rapidly traveling to everyone that stared at him with amazement; Why was the CEO eating with the rest of the company workers? Was he there to spy on them or probably clocking the time they used for eating?
Rengoku ignored them, ate lunch at peace, all by himself, and returned to his office. But before arriving, as Mitsuri called his name he walked all they way to her desk:
-”Oh Rengoku-san, it was not necessary for you to come all this way. I can reach your office as you usually want us to.” There she goes again, Rengoku thought, trembling and with a low voice. Is it really so unpleasant to speak to me?
-”It’s not a sacrifice from my side, especially if I am barely arriving at my office” His voice was softer but still really formal “Please, go ahead.” His eyes were now fixed on her, waiting for her response.
-”I see… Ah yes! Regarding the failure, we just empirically confirmed the proposed fix. Just a couple of more tests and we might be able to present the solution to our customer.” She squeaked excitedly, almost forgetting to whom he was speaking to. Rengoku gave her a small gentle smile.
-”Those are great news.”- He answered as he fixed his gaze on a desk to the immediate left of Mitsuri’s; your old desk.
-”We will let you know as soon as we are ready to start communication with the customer.”- She said regaining her composure, but Kyojuro’s eyes were still on your old desk and he spoke:
-”It's like she never left…”- Mitsuri blinked and bewilderedly she asked with a small voice:
-”Um, who could that be, Rengoku-san?”-
-”Y/N.” He said as he placed both his hands inside on his really tight midnight blue designer pants pockets. “There are still a lot of her things on that desk.”
-”Oh, yes! Do not worry about it. I-I, we will handle it. It’s just that she left so fast. I will make sure to deliver her everything”- She was really nervous to mention the resignation subject.
-”Yes, it is the right thing to do.” He said with reverence and headed directly to his office.
The day came to an end at the office, as everyone left, Giyuu headed to your old desk to pick up the rest of your things; he was wondering what kind of secrets you might be keeping in there. As he started to place some mugs inside the box your ex-manager gave him he was interrupted by a very deep voice:
-”Tomioka-san, good afternoon. Burning some late night oil?”- Rengoku said while leaning closer to your desk.
-”Not really, Rengoku-san. I am getting all of Y/N remaining stuff together to deliver them to her.” He said as he continued to fill the cardboard box.
-”Perfect timing then, I was thinking exactly the same. Please do not worry about it, I’ve decided to take responsibility for that activity as being the leader of this group. I will handle it from here.”- He said as he placed both of his hands on his hips, right above his brown belt, exposing his sky blue vest.
-”No bother at all, she is my friend. I do this gladly”. His blue eyes were fixed on him as he stopped his item recollection.
-”I see, though I must insist. It is a company policy now.”- He said, arching one of his bushy eyebrows.
-”A company policy that states the CEO should deliver former employees their personal possessions?” Giyuu’s expression was serious and defiant.
-”I am not surprised you are not aware of this, policies are sometimes only discussed within the upper management.” He got closer to the desk and tightly gripped one of the box’s free sides -“Go ahead to enjoy your free time now”- Rengoku was sure that Giyuu will not dare to go against his orders but he was unpleasantly surprised to see that your blue-eyed friend was eager to give a good fight:
-”As I believe Y/N’s address is unknown to you, I will be able to deliver it faster. That way, you can focus on your really important CEO activities.” Giyuu’s tone was cold but he had now tightly pulled the box closer to him and annoyed, he found out Rengoku hadn’t released the box either.
-”In that case, just disclose to me her address and I will close this action item for you.” The edges of the box were menacing to tear apart as the CEO grip was countered by Tomioka’s hold.
-”And that will indeed be against the company’s policies. We are not entitled to disclose any personal information or from a former colleague to anyone at the company.” There was an incredible aura of intensity around a plain box. Both men were staring at each other’s eyes, unblinking. Rengoku’s nose wrinkled slightly as he understood he was not going to get away with it. But with a mocking tone, Giyuu continued:
- “But, if these are company policies; Human Resources could facilitate Y/N address to you and since that might take a couple of days, my option is the fastest one.”- A soft victorious smile was drawn on your friend’s face.
-”Then I’ll turn to human resources for this matter and I would advise you not to touch that box unless you desire for security to be called upon you.” Rengoku finally released the box with a wide smirk before fixing his expensive burgundy tie. Giyuu’s blood was boiling, but he released the box as he nodded and answered him:
-”Perfectly understood, Rengoku…-san. Have a nice day.” His tone was sharp as his stare, he was furious but that was the CEO; he wished to have the courage you had that day and by the thought of you, his heart sank. He will be disappointing you, not delivering anything to you on your Saturday’s movie night and that made him feel down.
And even though he knew what kind of person Rengoku was, he couldn’t believe the CEO would be doing all this just to keep picking up on you, considering you were not in the office anymore. But of course, he was definitely the vengeful type of former boss.
Rengoku saw with utter complacency how Giyuu left as he had won over that half empty box. When the rush of the moment cleared from his chest, he was completely puzzled by the reason behind his actions. Fighting over a box, lying about company policies, threatening an employer for absolutely no valid reason and only for getting to see you one more time?
No, that was not it. He realized that his ways, probably, were not adequate so he wanted to make up for that: as the great leader he was. Nothing more than that. But either way around, a question kept coming around over and over; What has this woman done to me?

Saturday arrived quicker than expected, a couple of days had passed since you quitted but you have already felt like recovering from an illness. It was amazing how much your body needed those good night's sleep and food fresh home cooked, although you did missed Giyuu’s lunch ideas for the week. You texted each other, but not as often as you would want to.
Of course he made sure to confirm your date on Saturday afternoon, you were already waiting for your friend to pick you up, arranging the cute floral dress you have decided to wear as it was practically new. You never really had the chance to use it since they had a very strict dressing code at the office and you typically never had time to go out while working at your former company, even on the weekends.
As you were opening your apartment door to wait for your friend in the parking lot of your building, you found yourself face to face with your date.
-”Ah Giyuu! Perfect timing, I was about to text you. Ready?”- You beamed at him
-”Yes, let’s go”- His expression was serious, way less talkative than the last time you saw each other. He did not expected to feel overwhelmed by what happened in your apartment last time, anxiety suddenly got control over him as he started imagining what kind of blabbering he might have told you while being ‘slightly’ drunk and he was probably going to regret even more what was about to tell you.
-”That is a nice dress, it suits you well.”-He said with a side glance, not looking at you. You knew there was something going on with your friend, despite being really quiet, today he was not acting like himself.
-”You think so? Thanks! I thought this would be the perfect occasion for its premier appearance.”- you glanced at your clothing and then at him -”So, how’s been office since my 2-day long absence? You look a little bit more silent than usual, I am amazed by how that is even possible.”- You said teasingly with a small smile.
-”Not much…”- He was struggling to decide which subject he wanted to touch first “So, Y/N, last time in your apartment… I didn’t tell you any funny stuff, did I?”- He sounded nervous and you understood immediately what this was about.
-”Oh, well; I did think that your sleeping routine was kind of ‘peculiar' ’’- You said matter-of-factly as Giyuu’s eyes widened. He felt like a cold water bucket was directly poured on him as he nervously tried to think what on earth did he told you. Was he that drunk? He cannot recall having mentioned anything about going to sleep. Was it possible that he talked to you about something he does not remember anymore?
-”Just kidding” you snapped him out of this thoughts with a chuckle “You did cracked a lot of jokes, I did not knew you had such an arsenal” you giggled as you gently placed your hand on his arm. As he was driving, you didn't notice as his cheeks blushed lightly and how relieved he was that he didn’t speak about anything he was not ready to disclose to you while being sober.
After that point, Giyuu slowly returned to his normal self but the tingling idea of what had happened with Rengoku kept pulling his mood down. He wasn’t sure when it would be a good time to mention it, he did not wanted to ruin your movie day with you.
As he let you choose the movie that day, he offered to pay for everything with the excuse of you being unemployed, you accepted but with the condition that he will allow you to pay for another movie night out as soon as you landed a job. Your friend couldn’t be happier for having secured another date with you.
The movie was pretty good up to your standards, so good that this time Giyuu needed to grab your arm looking for comfort. He excused himself by saying that he got startled by the loud sounds of the tension scenes, but you were pretty sure the movie gave him a very good scare. You both had a great time, sharing popcorn and merrily discussing afterwards your opinions regarding the movie’s argument.
As he drove you back home at night, he sourly tried to think what would be a good way to approach the issue with your things and when you were about to wave him goodbye, he finally spoke:
-”Y/N, about your things…”-
-”Oh yes, I had such a great time that I almost forgot. Thank you for going through all that trouble for me…”- You said as you placed your palms together in front of your face, but his expression said it all. Something with that matter was not alright.
-”I tried to pick everything up, I even talked to Kanroji-san and she said it was fine. But as I was about to take everything with me, that idiot of Rengoku came out with a stupid excuse of company policies and at the end he didn’t allowed me to take anything.”- He certainly avoided mentioning anything regarding the CEO wanting to personally deliver you your things. -” I am really sorry that I failed you.”- His eyes were dejected and that only made your bad blood with Rengoku increase.
You were surprised how much of an asshole the CEO could be up to the point of making up ridiculous policies for getting back at you. You were so mad, but also at yourself, you should have known that he would not let it go so easily, especially after how you insulted him. It was time to call it quits and just let him have it, you did not wanted Giyuu to get into trouble for your fault.
-”Hey, no need to be so blue about it. Let that imbecile have it.” As you two were in your building parking lot, you placed your hand over his -”Actually, my desk was full of junk. The most valuable things from that shitty place were you and Mitsuri-san. If he wants to, let him throw everything out. But please, don’t get into trouble with him because of a bunch of junk.” You gave him a very warm and sincere smile as you gently stroked his hand with your thumb. -”As I said before, fuck Rengoku!” He gave you a side smile as he cheered a little bit up.
He walked you up to your apartment and as you were about to return him back his black jacket, he lent you so gentlemanly due to the weather, he said with a shy smile:
-”Keep it.”- He stared at you for a couple of seconds and waved goodbye. You smiled as he was gone, his scent was strongly lingering in your skin by now.

HEIAN PERIOD (1035)
Ever since you were born you lived with your big cousin, who is rather intimidating but also very admirable. You smile brightly as he puts his arm around you, guiding you through the bustling streets toward a grand festival that you've never seen before. Your stomach rumbles at the sight of the crowd around you. You're so nervous and oh-so excited.
Your cousin chuckles and pats your head gently as he watches your eyes grow wide, saying, "Go on, don't be shy."
"I don't know where to start," you shake your head.
With a sigh, he leads you deeper into the festival, pointing out the acrobats performing incredible feats, jugglers tossing flaming torches, and magicians captivating the crowds with their tricks. The sound of laughter and cheers lights a fire in your stomach.
"How about now?" he grins down at you, his bright red eyes glowing in the night sky.
"The magicians," you grin devilishly. "They won't even notice 'til it's too late."
With that, your cousin watches as you literally disappear beside him. He waves you off and waits only a few moments until the cheers from the crowd turn into blood-curdling screams. He smiles wide as people rush past him in a feeble attempt to leave. But by the time you're done, he's the only one left still alive.
"So?" he asks once the sound of flesh being torn apart dies off.
"Oh," you hum, disappointed that you forgot to save a couple humans for him. "I'm sorry, Muzan, I didn't realize you wanted any..."
"That's quite alright," he nods as he places his arm around your shoulders again. "Did you have a good birthday, little one?" he then asks.
You nod enthusiastically, a wide smile on your face. "Yes, cousin Muzan, I had the best time ever! Thank you!"
Muzan ruffles your hair affectionately. "Good. Remember, you're meant for greatness. One day, the world will bow before you, and you'll be the one leading grand festivals like this."
His words ignite a spark of ambition within you, and you nod, determined to make him proud. 
As you both head home, your stomach completely stuffed, your heart is full of gratitude and wonder for the unforgettable day you spent with your cousin at the festival. It was, after all, the first time he'd let you pig out on more than just his leftovers back at home.

MEIJI PERIOD
Approximately seven hundred years later you find yourself in a time where you hardly recognize your cousin. First of all, he's a lot more powerful now than when you were little. He also has a human wife and child which surprised the hell out of you when you secretly heard someone talking to him about it. But you let it go, writing it off as he's so busy leading all the other demons it probably slipped his mind to talk to you about it.
One night, out on a feast of a small town not too far away from where Muzan's mansion is, you find yourself beginning to devour the remains of a magician when something suddenly stops you. Immediately, you're brought back to the time you were first allowed by your cousin to eat in public. And with a smile, you decide to pick up the magician instead of finishing him off yourself.
After what felt like a year's walk, you drop the half-eaten body in a dimly lit room of Muzan's grand mansion, right before his feet as a twisted smile grows on your face. The sight of his shocked expression brings satisfaction as you proudly claim, "I was too full from the rest of the town and I thought you might enjoy the rest."
Muzan lets out a chuckle, but his amusement quickly turns into irritation as he scolds you for your behavior. "You are disgusting," he remarks, his tone cold and stern. "Eating until you pig out like a child. You are a demon, not some mindless beast. Show some restraint."
Thinking that you're cousin is only joking, you retort, "Why should I? This isn't your human house. What difference does it make in how I behave?"
The room falls into a tense silence, and with a gulp, you seize the moment to change the conversation and ask, "Oh, by the way, how is your wife, Muzan?" 
Though you don't mean him any harm, his hand suddenly meets your cheek in a swift and forceful slap, sending a stinging sensation across your skin. "Do not speak of such things here," he hisses, his eyes narrowing in warning. "You are my kin, but you are still nothing more than a lowly demon. Show some respect and be more civil in your speech."
You nod silently, a mixture of anger, jealousy, and resentment growing within you. Ever since the news of Muzan having a human family reached your ears, nothing had ever felt the same. "Of course, cousin Muzan. I apologize for my behavior," you then bow your head slightly and say.
Muzan eyes you warily but seems to accept your submission. "See that you don't repeat this mistake again," he warns before turning his attention elsewhere, dismissing you for the moment.
As you exit the room, you can't shake the feeling of unease and the burning curiosity about what else he isn't telling you, what else is going on in the world that you don't know about.

TAISHO PERIOD
Carrying what Muzan's kitchen staff calls "Ephemeral Delight," a platter of human delicacies, you walk into the meeting room. The platter holds an array of small finger foods made from tender human flesh, infused with rare spices and herbs, which you explain once Muzan nods, allowing you to speak. The presentation is artful, a masterpiece as you told the chef, showcasing how truly beautiful the human form is in a hauntingly mesmerizing way.
You then place the platter in the middle of the room where Muzan is seated, trying your best to meet his gaze, but he continuously avoids looking at you directly. He dismisses the platter with a disdainful flick of his hand, stating that it is not to his liking and instructs you to take it back to the kitchen and fix it.
"What?!" you protest, frustration mounting within you. But, you quickly bite your tongue to keep your emotions in check. You feel a mix of anger and humiliation, knowing that Muzan's constant rejection cuts deep. You take a deep breath, trying to maintain your composure as you pick up the platter and head back to the kitchen.
In the kitchen, one of the other servants notices your distressed expression and asks what's wrong. You clench your jaw, feeling the weight of your frustrations. "It's Muzan," you mutter, your voice tinged with bitterness. "He's never satisfied with anything anyone ever does for him!"
"W-Well, what happened dear? Did he not like it?" the chef asks, taking a step closer to you.
You slam the platter down onto the counter, unable to bear the thought of returning to Muzan's presence ever again. Without looking back, you storm out of the kitchen, your words sharp as you tell the other servants, "You figure it out!"
As you hastily leave the mansion, you know that your outburst was mean-spirited, and a wave of guilt washes over you. You never wanted to lash out at others, especially those who are just trying to do their job. But the pent-up anger and resentment have taken their toll on your emotions.
Running as fast as you can, you flee the mansion and head toward the closest town. Your heart races with each step, the adrenaline coursing through your veins. Once you reach the town, the overwhelming emotions inside you find an outlet. You go on a rampage, releasing your fury on anyone in your path. The townspeople scream in terror as you mercilessly strike them down.
However, just as you're about to kill one of the last survivors, a boy steps forward, bravely putting his hands out and telling you to kill him first. Your world freezes for a moment as you lock eyes with him. There's something in his dark blue eyes that touches a nerve you thought long buried – fear, determination, and something else you can't quite place.
For the first time ever while on a hunt, you hesitate, unsure of what to do. The boy stands his ground, not running from you, even though you're a demon. Conflicted emotions surge within you, and in that moment, you see a glimpse of your former self, the lost child who once sought connection and understanding.
In the turmoil of emotions, you make the choice to run away. You turn and flee from the boy, from the town, and from the chaos you've caused. You run until your legs give out, and you find yourself in the shelter of a dense forest.
Exhausted, you slump against a tree, hugging your knees to your chest. The weight of your actions and the screams of the people you've killed echo in your mind. You hate the monster that you've become, and tears stream down your face as you cry for the lives you've taken and the pain you've caused.
In this moment, you come to a realization. The only one you want to kill now is Muzan. The one who has tormented you, manipulated you, and kept you in darkness all these centuries. He is the source of your pain, and the burning desire for revenge ignites within you.
As your emotions overwhelm you, you succumb to the exhaustion and darkness that surrounds you. You pass out, cradled by the cold embrace of the forest, with a newfound resolve to confront Muzan and bring an end to his reign of terror.

When his lips meet yours, your whole body lights on fire. Never in a million years did you actually think he'd kiss you. Obviously, he's quite handsome. But he cursed you out about an hour ago just for being a demon.
But you won't complain, especially not as he allows you to wrap your hands around his back and up to his neck, pulling him closer to you. That night, you and Giyu wait outside the back of the restaurant. You look up at the stars above and sigh before confessing to Giyu how much you miss the forest- your home.
"You mean that dark place where you were constantly being followed by demons?" he asks.
"Yep. And part of that snarky response, Giyu, is exactly the reason why. It was so dark that I could be outside even during the day. It was great since I never really got tired back then," you then explain to him.
After that, you turn towards him and take his hand in yours, gratitude and sincerity in your voice as you express your appreciation for all he's done. "I want you to know that your support means the world to me. You've made me feel like I can be more than just some mindless demon which, to be honest, I never really believed was true before."
His lips curve into a small, almost bashful smile. "You don't have to thank me."
Just then, your moment with Giyu is shattered as Muzan suddenly materializes before you, accompanied by Valeria. "Oh, my darling cousin, is this your new boyfriend?" he remarks before expressing his disapproval due to Giyu being, well, everything that Muzan is not.

Tears blur my vision as I rush to Y/N's side, cradling her head in my arms. A choked sob escapes me as I make a promise that echoes through the night air, a promise to keep my heart locked away from anyone else, a terrible attempt to shield myself from the agony of loss. Without even noticing it, for the first time, I admit that I'm in love with her.
Her weak voice cuts through the darkness. "Giyu... you loved me?"
My answer is immediate, the answer is so obvious. "I always will."
Her response is a mixture of tears and disbelief. "Then don't... don't condemn yourself. That's not what I want."
My confusion shows on my face as I try to comprehend her words.

And promise me, Giyu, that if you ever meet another demon who looks like they might still have a chance at a good life, don't kill them."
The weight of her words hit me, especially as she continues to explain that, "Muzan's superiority is shaken. He knows now that there's a chance a demon could revolt against him. So if you spare demons who might still have a chance at redemption-"
I cut her off after that, I don't want her to waste her energy because I completely understand her point. "I promise," I say, my voice a solemn whisper.
Y/n's form fades into ash in my arms, leaving a void in the night. The crow that guided me lands nearby, its caw breaking the silence and congratulating me for finally dealing with the demon I was sent out to destroy before urging me to see Master Ubuyashiki right away.
Anguish and rage collide within me so overwhelmingly strong that I'm not really sure how to react. I let out a loud scream in the dark night before striking the ground with my fist. Thankfully, Giyu is a pretty good mentor, despite what he says. He always carefully guides you through each motion with a focused determination that sends shivers down your back. When he does that, with his chest pressed up against your back, you can feel his breath against your skin, his warmth seeping through the thin barrier of distance that separates you.
As the moon shines patterns through the dense canopy of trees and the two of you finish your sparing session, you find yourself in a moment of stillness as he stands before you, your faces inches apart. You grin, enjoying his reaction, but the moment is short-lived. Just as Giyu's attention is momentarily diverted, you accidentally step into a patch of light filtering through the trees. Your skin starts to burn as if exposed to intense sunlight, and you quickly duck behind a nearby tree to shield yourself from the harmful rays. Panic courses through you; you can't let Giyu see you like this, not before your skin heals.

"Let me help," he says softly. He tears off a piece of his jacket and gently binds the makeshift bandage around your arm.
As he tends to your 'injury,' you're struck by the warmth of his touch and the tenderness in his actions. The desire to kiss him surges within you, but the reality of your existence as a demon holds you back. How could you let your heart yearn for something that is impossible?

Giyu glances over at you with a calm expression. "Not too long," he replies, though you can tell he's been awake for a while. He's already dressed and, as you glance over by the door, you notice that his shoes have been moved. 
With a sigh, you glance over at the alarm clock- it's two in the afternoon. You groan and hug your knees to your chest as you lean up against the head of the bed, feeling guilty for oversleeping. 
"Don't worry about it," he reassures you. "Sleep is important, especially for you. I'd rather you rest than, you know, murder me in my sleep."
Just then, a rush of panic hits you as you remember the ultimatum Valeria gave you last night. You bite the inside of your cheek, your anxiety growing. Giyu raises an eyebrow and asks, "What's wrong?"
You shake your head, trying to shake off the panic as well. "The demon that was here yesterday... I didn't give her my answer."
"What?" he hums, as though he's now genuinely confused. "You mean you don't remember last night?"
"Well, yeah, I mean how could I forget that," you laugh for a moment before embarrassment sinks in and you look down at your knees instead. "But I don't remember seeing her again."
Giyu's cheeks flush slightly, but he moves closer, sitting down beside you on the bed. "This is what happened..." he begins, knowing that your extra-long nap is making your memory fuzzy.

"You did?" Giyu answers, his tone tinged with worry.
You meet his gaze, determination in your eyes. "Yeah. I'm not going to let her blackmail me anymore."
He looks curious but concerned. "What are you planning to tell her?"
Leaning in, you softly confess, "I don't care what the demon slayers think of me. I want Muzan to come here, so I can finally end him."
Giyu's eyebrows furrow. "Is that really a good idea?"
You offer a small smile. "Probably not, but I can't keep hiding. I've become stronger, especially now that I've met you. I don't want to live in his shadow anymore."

Much to my surprise, the demon recoils, its posture relaxing into something a bit less menacing. With an eerie grace, it straightens up, its malevolent aura giving way to uncertainty. And then, as quickly as it had approached us, the demon turns and flees, disappearing into the shadows.
Tsutako then grabs me again and hugs me tight. "Never do that again, Giyu. I should be the one to protect you, not the other way around!"
The memory begins to fade then, and once again I find myself back on the bench with a mix of emotions that swell within me. The memory of my sister's embrace stirs tears that trickle down onto my hands. It's hard to believe it's been twelve years since then. 
I wipe my eyes, letting out a sigh that tries to carry as much acceptance as I can muster. But then, a sudden realization strikes me like a bolt of lightning. Those eyes, haunting yet familiar, belonged to Y/N. The same demon who I'm traveling with now has somehow transformed into something beautiful that defies the darkness I once associated with her. It feels as if that memory was from a different lifetime, a time when she was entangled in Muzan's influence.
The irony of her past and present strikes me. How could someone who appears so beautiful and alluring have once been part of such evil? The contrast between the two versions of Y/N is earth-shattering, a reminder of the complexity of her unique nature.
My thoughts are interrupted by the arrival of my crow, descending gracefully to land beside me. "Giyu Tomioka, did you find that demon you were sent to locate and destroy?" it caws, prompting me to reflect on my supposed task at hand. 
I pause before I answer, grappling with my conflicting emotions. Could I really bring myself to end Y/N's existence? I don't think so, even though she is a demon and has done absolutely horrible things in her life that make me want to puke and take my own life if only Shinobu would ever let me. 
With a heavy exhale, I give my answer to the crow. 
"No."

When I finally return to the restaurant, I find myself standing outside the door of the second-floor apartment, my heart pounding with worry. I have no idea what to say when I see Y/N.
I knock on the door and wait until, with a groan from the other side, Y/N answers. Her eyes are swollen from crying, yet somehow, even in her vulnerable state, her beauty remains undeniable. Guilt gnaws at me, realizing that my words had brought her to tears. I hadn't intended to hurt her, and seeing her like this only makes me feel worse.
"Y/N, I'm really sorry," I say awkwardly, genuinely regretful. She turns away and walks back to her bed, burying her head in her bedsheets. I close the door softly behind me, torn between wanting to give her space and wanting to comfort her. In the end, my concern for her wins out, and I approach her bed, hesitantly patting her head. I apologize once again, feeling bad for making her cry.
Her tear-stained face turns to me, revealing what's wrong. She explains the true reason behind her tears. "Someone's come to collect me," she starts. My frustration simmers beneath the surface, but I take a deep breath. She's always in danger.
"You know, you have a real bad habit of getting yourself in trouble," I remark, not really sure what to say. 
But then, Y/N buries her face in my chest, causing my face to heat up. "I know," she wails. 
"It's alright," I assure her gently, her wide, beautiful eyes meeting mine. 
She looks so lost. "What do I do, Giyu? They want me to go back to Muzan. And if I don't, they tell the demon slayers that I'm not human."
I don't really know, honestly, I think to myself as I look down at her soft, quivering lips. I wish I knew how to make her feel better. 
Without really thinking, I let my hand cup her cheek, and the shift in her expression is palpable. There's a hint of surprise, a flicker of something deeper, as if she hadn't expected this moment to unfold quite like this. But of course, she hadn't, and neither had I... Especially not after that fight we had.
I then bend down slightly, causing the kiss that follows to be a delicate collision of emotions, a mixture of comfort and yearning that has been building beneath the surface. It's not a kiss born out of impulse, but rather a shared understanding of the complexities of our situation. 
And for once, right now I'm not just some demon slayer traveling along with a demon. Our lips meet, and I can instantly feel the longing that's quietly been growing between us. Her lips as gentle against mine, and in that moment, we finally find some peace in each other.

Sympathy for a Demon Masterlist
As you and Giyu continue walking beneath the dark sky, the landscape transitions into a livelier village. He then guides you into a noodle shop, and you feel a tinge of nervousness. Human food has never been your preference, and the bustling atmosphere around you is a constant reminder of how different your existence is from those around you.
Giyu's conversation with the owner becomes a distant hum in your ears as you glance around, observing the humans going about their lives. In the past, you would have relished in their fear, in the thought of consuming them. But then Giyu touches your arm softly, and you're suddenly pulled back to the present. 
When he guides you to a small private room, you find a low table in its center. As you sit down on a cushion, Giyu takes his place across from you. The waiter's voice intterupts your thoughts, offering water and a promise to return shortly.
"You do remember I'm a demon, right?" you say, leaning closer to him.
"Don't be so crude, Y/N," he responds, looking down at the menu instead of you. His comment makes your face heat up, and you stammer to defend yourself.
"I am not..." you tell him as you sit up straight. "It's just true and this food sucks."
"I know what you are. Why are you being defensive?" he then asks.
Taking in a deep breath, you admit, "Because human food is the worst."
"The only human food you ever had was what you made back in the forest," he then comments. "Maybe it's just your cooking that sucks. Besides, if you ever want to fit in around humans, or at least not look so damn suspicious all the time, then you should try eating it."
You grumble, anger boiling within you at his rude comment. "Whatever. I'm not even hungry anyway."
"You're not?" he hums as he finally looks up at you. "Why?"
"I don't know," you say with a shrug. "I haven't eaten in about two years now... since I woke up from that twelve year nap I had."
Giyu's wide-eyed reaction leaves you puzzled, and you swipe your hand in front of him to make sure he's alright.
"Two years? You haven't eaten in two years?" Giyu mutters.
"Hey, I'm still adjusting to this whole 'normal human' thing, alright?" you roll your eyes.
After a moment's pause, he shakes his head. "But that's not normal," he says, causing you to frown at him. "You know, if you want people to treat you normally, you shouldn't be hiding out in a creepy forest. You need to actually act normal."
His words cause you to feel guilty. Not just about the way you live, but about the lie you just told him. "Actually, there's something I need to tell you," you begin, receiving a curious look from Giyu. "During the final selection I was recognized by one of the other demons. I killed it, obviously, but one of the humans overheard everything we said so I..."
Giyu's eyes wide, his gaze fixed on you. He seems at a loss for words as the gravity of your confession sinks in. 
Just then, the waiter's return breaks the tension, providing a brief distraction. Giyu orders for the both of you and before you can come up with something to say, the clattering of dishes fill the room. As the meal arrives, you can't help but wonder how he's going to react, well, once he decides to react, that is.
The silence continues to grow, only to be broken by a question delivered in his typically straightforward manner. "Did you consciously decide to kill that human?"
His gaze pierces right through you, and you can't help but look down as you answer, "Yes."
His response is equally direct, "Then you better eat your damn food."
You let out an audible groan, not thrilled by the prospect of consuming something you find unappetizing.
His next question cuts deeper, "How do you even still have a consciousness? None of the other demons do," he adds, shaking his head softly.
You meet his eyes briefly before offering an explanation, "It's because I am a Kibutsuji."
Understanding dawns on his face, and he murmurs, "Right, I can't believe I forgot that."
Unexpectedly, Giyu stands up, leaving his food untouched. Confused, you follow him out of the restaurant. A sense of tension hangs in the air as he abruptly turns to you, his voice laced with frustration. "I can't believe you're acting so nonchalant about this. You took a person's life, and you want me to be cool with it?!"
Your eyes begin to water, and a lump forms in your throat. His words weigh heavily on your conscience.
He continues, his tone more somber now, "I need to be alone. Go back to the restaurant. The owner is letting us stay there. You can go up to the second floor."
You want to say something, to apologize or explain, but his retreating figure stops you. You watch him until he's completely out of sight, his form disappearing into the distance.
After Giyu walks away, a heavy silence settles over you, matching the weight of your thoughts. Uncertainty turns in your stomach, and you are torn between conflicting emotions.
Slowy, you walk towards a nearby lake. Gazing out at the water, you think about the possibility of leaving, not interfering with Giyu any further. But the question lingers: where would I even go? Back to Muzan? That option is out of the question. He’d kill you the moment you crossed his path, if not before then.
You take a deep breath and look down at your own reflection in the water. A heavy sigh escapes your lips, carrying the weight of your internal struggle.
With a resigned determination, you decide to return to the restaurant. Perhaps there’s still a chance to salvage the situation, to mend the cracked connection between you and Giyu.

Y/N'S P.O.V.
Giyu pulls you down the mountain with a steady hand, leading you safely away from the wisteria. Your heart is still racing, the memories of the trial lingering like a shadow in your mind. Not to mention everything after, too. You can't help but feel relief wash over you as you leave the forest behind. You're sure it would have suffocated you if you had stayed any longer. 
At the bottom of the mountain, you arrive in a small town that is unfamiliar to you. Its atmosphere is a complete contrast to the vibrant life of the forest, as if the colors have been drained away. Even though it is supposed to be day, it feels like night. The town is gray and quiet, an eerie silence hanging in the air. You look around, uncertain of your surroundings, and turn to Giyu for answers.
"I don't know where we are," he admits, his voice low but steady. "Stay close," he says as he begins to walk over the bridge into the town.
As he walks ahead, you find yourself gazing at his back, a mixture of emotions swirling within you. He's willing to stand by you, to protect you, even now that he's aware of what you are. When he turns around to face you, you quickly look away, your cheeks warming. His question pulls you back to reality. "Are you coming?"
You nod, your heart still fluttering with a combination of nerves and gratitude. "Yes," you answer softly, and you begin to run after him. 
Together, side by side, you step into the strangely deserted town. There's an eerie quietness that envelops everything, as if time itself has come to a standstill, and you can't shake the feeling that something isn't quite right in this town.

As you and Giyu walk through the silent town, a sense of unease continues to gnaw at your consciousness. The deserted streets and empty buildings give you a chilling feeling.
Suddenly, a low growl resonates through the air, sending a shiver down your spine. Giyu tenses beside you, his sword at the ready. You exchange a quick glance. Then, the growl grows louder, and from the shadows emerges a demon, its form shifting and contorting with every step.
Giyu's gaze narrows as he takes in the demon's appearance. It's a serpent-like creature, its scales shimmering with an eerie light. The demon's eyes gleam with malevolence, and you can sense the danger it poses.
"You know this guy?" Giyu mutters under his breath, his usual composure tinged with concern.
"No," you gulp. "But I think he's able to manipulate the air around himself."
"I can see him, Y/N, but he's like you. I can't sense his presence," he then whispers to you.
Your heart races as you realize that the two of you are going to have to take on the demon's strong abilities. A knot of worry forms in your chest. You've seen how capable Giyu is in battles, but standing in front of probably one of the strongest opponents you've faced with him so far is unnerving. 
The serpent-like demon's head darts forward, its jaw snapping dangerously close to Giyu. He barely manages to dodge in time, but the demon's speed catches him off guard. Its form shifts, leaving both of you disoriented. Giyu's movements become hesitant as he struggles to predict the demon's attacks.
You clench your fists, a mix of fear and determination coursing through you. You have no idea where your sword went- not that you'll need it anymore, but you know that you can't let Giyu do this alone, especially if his abilities are rendered ineffective.
As the demon lunges again, you sprint towards it, using your illusionary techniques to create confusion. You then move with precision, each strike calculated to keep the demon off balance.
While you and Giyu engage in battle against the serpent-like demon, the tension in the air is palpable, but amidst the chaos, your movements become more synchronized. Each strike complements the other's as you work to overcome the demon. However, even in the heat of battle, the two of you can't seem to let go of your arguing.
When the serpent demon's form shifts, Guyu shouts to you, "Watch out, behind you!" 
"Behind me? Really?" you reply, a grin tugging at your lips as you sidestep an attack. "Because I totally couldn't have figured that out on my own."
Giyu rolls his eyes, his focus on the demon. "Don't get in my way, Y/N."
"Me? Get in your way?" you scoff, landing a solid strike on the demon's side. "I think you're the one struggling to keep up."
His sword clashes with the demon's scales as he mutters, "I don't need your commentary."
As you continue the battle, your banter continues to mix with the clashes of his sword. The serpent demon's attacks become more erratic, evidence of your joint efforts. Each time Giyu dodges, he shoots you a pointed look, as if to say, "See? I can handle it."
You roll your eyes and respond with an exaggerated shrug, intentionally taking a step back to dodge a sudden lunge from the demon. "Oh, sure, Captain Serious. I'll just stand here and let you have all the fun."
His lips quirk into the tiniest of smiles, hidden beneath his stern exterior. "Just make sure you keep up."
You reply with a short laugh, your attention swiftly returning to the battle. Your rhythm with Giyu has grown remarkably fluid, each of you predicting the other's movements. The serpent demon's tactics become less effective, a clear sign that your teamwork is overpowering its trickery.
Giyu lunges forward, his sword finding its mark on the demon's throat. "Gotcha," he grumbles triumphantly.
You're quick to respond, a playful grin on your face. "Well, well. Looks like you had a few tricks up your sleeve after all."
He rolls his eyes, but you can tell he's struggling to hold back a chuckle. The demon's form wavers as it lets out an agonized roar, the culmination of your combined efforts finally bringing it to its knees.
As the serpent demon disintegrates into ash, you and Giyu stand side by side, chests heaving from exertion. The tension in the air begins to fade away, replaced by a sense of accomplishment and a shared understanding.
Giyu turns to you, a hint of a smile quirking his lips. "You know," he says, "for someone who can't shut up, you're not half bad in a fight."
You mockingly gasp, placing a hand over your heart. "Are you giving me a compliment, Giyu? I'm touched."
His expression shifts into something softer, his gaze meeting yours. "Just don't let it get to your head."
You let out a soft chuckle, the connection between you two more tangible than ever. As the tension eases, you exchange a meaningful glance with Giyu, a silent acknowledgment that despite your contrasts, you can find unity in crucial moments.
Giyu then begins to walk away, his back turned to you as he sheathes his sword.
"Hey, wait up!" you call, jogging to catch up with him. When you reach his side, you then ask the question you haven't been able to get off your mind. "So, uh, what does this mean for us?"
His response is measured like he doesn't quite want you to know what he's thinking. "You can stick around, and we'll see."
Frustration creeps into your voice, "What do you mean 'we'll see'?"
He maintains his mysterious demeanor, but a small smile tugs at his lips, "You'll find out."
Despite the groan that escapes your lips, a smile forms on your face, and you both continue your journey in a quiet, yet happy silence.

One week later, you find yourself once again pressed between the wisteria trees, accompanied by three other humans who survived the tortuous week alongside you. Your heart quickens as you spot Giyu in the distance, a wave of emotions crashing over you. Uncertainty clouds your thoughts. Do you run to him? Do you let your guard down and show your true feelings? No, you remind yourself, maintaining your facade is crucial.
You turn your attention to the two girls in front of you, Kiriya and Kanata Ubuyashiki. Their congratulations ring in your ears, and you force a smile in response. It is honestly relieving that you've finally finished that week that lasted longer than the entire hundred-year Muromachi period. 
However, the weight of the situation is suffocating, especially when the two of them mention that a demon has somehow escaped. Dread knots in your stomach. Suspicion hangs heavy in the air, and it feels like every pair of eyes is fixed on you. Panic surges within you, spiraling into a full-blown attack that leaves you trembling and gasping for breath.
Amid the chaos, Giyu's firm grip on your arm startles you. He pulls you aside, his voice a reassuring anchor despite the chaos. "Y/n," he begins in a hushed tone, "there's something strange happening here. There's a demon that's somehow hiding its presence. And it's most likely a high-level demon, because it's beyond my detection." 
You try to ease the tension with a nervous chuckle. "Is that really the first thing you're going to say to me after a week of thinking I was dead?" you say, attempting to shift the conversation away from the unsettling topic. Giyu's response takes you by surprise.
"Oh, that reminds me," he says, his voice slightly embarrassed. "What did you say your family name is? I was trying to fill out a few forms for you, but I didn't have the answers to some of the questions." You then quickly make up a random family name.
Giyu raises an eyebrow. "I've never heard of that last name before, especially not for any ancient demon slayer family."
You offer a nonchalant smile. "Well, you know how secretive my family is."
Giyu nods in understanding. "That's true, you did mention that before."
Just then, a demon slayer speaks up with an idea. "Hey, why don't we all pluck a wisteria petal off a tree?" they suggest. "Whoever doesn't do it must be the demon."
You can feel your heart racing at a million miles per hour, your ears burning with the weight of what you've just heard. You desperately hope you heard them wrong, however, in a moment of panic, you glance back at Giyu and grab him by the arm.
"I need to talk to you about something right now," you say quietly. "Privately."
You then lead him away from the group, creating enough distance to ensure your conversation doesn't get overheard. Then, taking a deep breath, you meet Giyu's eyes. You're about to admit something that might change everything between you two.
A heavy feeling settles in your chest as you realize that the time you've spent together might be coming to an end. Despite the circumstances, you've enjoyed his company, and you're going to miss it more than you ever thought.
Giyu looks at you with concern on his face. "Are you okay?" he asks, his voice soft with worry.
You let out a heavy sigh, trying to find the right words. "Giyu," you begin, your voice wavering slightly, "the demon they're talking about... it's me."
His eyes widen, realization dawning on him as if a puzzle piece finally fell into place. "So that's why I could never find the demon I was looking for," he mutters to himself, his tone a mix of surprise and understanding. He then draws his sword and points it at you, a mixture of caution and disbelief in his eyes. "How have you been able to disguise yourself this whole time?"
"It's my demon art," you explain calmly. "For a long time, I didn't use it 'cause what's the point in hiding from humans? But the ability to mask my presence is something I've had for centuries..."
He seems taken aback. "Centuries?" he exclaims. "What the hell?"
Raising your hand, you implore him, "Giyu, please, I'm not going to hurt you. I never planned to. I've enjoyed spending time with you, really."
His eyes search yours, a mix of emotions playing across his face. He asks about your family, and you admit, "Well, it's half true. I do have an ancient demon family... Muzan Kibutsuji is my older cousin."
The revelation hits him like a tidal wave, and for a moment, you think he might faint from shock. The truth is finally out, and the weight of it hangs heavily in the air, like a bridge connecting two worlds that should never have intertwined.

GIYU'S P.O.V.
"Why were you out in the forest alone?" I manage to ask her, my heart racing as I try to comprehend the reality before me. I try to strike at her, but she evades. 
"Giyu, please don't do this!" She tries not to scream, tries not to draw any attention.
I make another attempt to strike her, this time severing her arm only to watch it regrow before my eyes. There's no doubt about it now and my mind is a whirlwind of confusion and betrayal. 
"Why did you agree to become a demon slayer?" I demand, my frustration evident in every swing of my sword. She then explains that she left her home, living with Muzan Kibutsuji until he drove her to the brink of insanity which, honestly, she deserves props for dealing with him for such a long period of time.
She falls to the ground as I swipe both of her legs off. I stand over her, the tip of my sword beneath her chin, forcing her gaze up. Tears glisten in her eyes, a sight I've never associated with a demon before. Betrayal and disbelief war within me, but I can't ignore the honesty of her emotions. Sighing, I say, "You have the same goal as the demon slayers do, and I bet you didn't even fucking know that."
Her eyes widen in realization, and she stammers desperately, "I... I could work with the demon slayers."
Shaking my head, I reply, "They'll never accept you." And before she can say what I know she's about to, I add, "They'll find out eventually."
Y/n groans in frustration, but I instruct her to get to her feet. Slowly, she complies. "You know, I've never seen a demon with a will of their own before," I admit softly. "Someone who could choose to go against Muzan. But, as crazy as it all sounds, I believe you."
Before she can say anything back, a chorus of calls from the other new demon slayers reaches us. "We need to get out of here," I tell her, my voice firm. I grab onto her arm, knowing she won't be able to make it through the wisteria without a bit of help. And together, we run, leaving behind the place that has forever changed my opinion of the world.

MUROMACHI PERIOD (1436)
You and a few of your demon friends walk together, anticipation in the air as you close in on a nearby village. Onyx, the same demon who will eventually try to attack you in the woods with Giyu, expresses his excitement as he talks about the number of humans in the village nearby.
Covered by a shrowd of shadows, Kael'tar, another one of your companions, adds with a sinister grin, "Those stupid humans won't even know what hit 'em. Bet it'll take less than five minutes 'til we're done."
Your mouth waters, a familiar anticipation building within you. "This is going to be quite the feast," you comment, unable to contain your eagerness. Lilith, always quick with a reply, playfully scolds you to share for once, given your knack for finding the most prey. You chuckle in response, "No way, first come first serve." Lilith joins in your laughter, accepting your challenge. 
As the group ventures forward, your gaze lifts to notice a small village nestled in the darkness ahead. Moonlight gently illuminates the small cottages and narrow cobblestone streets. And before you know it, your friends are already on the move, vanishing into the shadows as chaos and panicked cries break the previously silent town. The familiar sounds of agony and terror, which you once found alluring, now stir an unsettling discomfort within you. 
Hunger claws at your insides, a reminder that you still need to eat. Yet, as you watch the others begin to ravage the villagers, a conflicted feeling arises within you. The village is smaller than you thought, and the number of victims seems overwhelming, even for your group. You're not sure why you're thinking of these things- you used to be the one who reveled in such scenes.
Guilt and a growing sense of empathy tug at your consciousness. The voices of the dying mix with the slurping sounds of feasting, forming a song of despair that hits you straight in your core. You begin to wrestle with the tension between your nature and your newfound understanding of the human suffering before you. For the first time, your hunger is accompanied by a sense of regret.
Amid the chaos, you stand still, your mind wrestling with conflicting emotions. The choice between satisfying your hunger and confronting the reality of your action from the past few centuries looms before you. 
About five minutes later, your friends return to your side, their bloodied forms contrasting your own cleanliness. Lilith's concerned gaze locks onto you. "Are you okay? You look frozen?" she asks.
Onyx chuckles, his tone dripping with amusement. "Probably still hungry. We all know how she gets."
Kael'tar smirks. "There's still about a hundred left out there if you want to go for seconds."
Lilith narrows her eyes, studying you intently. "Hold on a second, why are you so clean? There's not a drop of blood on you."
You offer a casual shrug, masking your turmoil beneath a mask of indifference. "I've grown tired of cleaning up every time I eat. Seems more efficient this way." You avert your gaze, feigning a disinterested air, and begin to walk toward the village. Despite your nonchalant facade, your heart races, and a sense of dread churns within you.
The village greets you with a gruesome scene. Buildings that once stood as symbols of human life are now mutilated by violence, their walls splattered with crimson. The streets are littered with the deceased, their lifeless forms scattered against the backdrop of destruction.
Gulping down the vomit that rises in your throat, you navigate the gruesome terrain. An unintentional step on a lifeless body sends a shiver down your spine. They're already dead, you remind yourself, trying to quell the rising guilt.
After you finish eating, you return to the others, their friendship more unsettling than comforting. Onyx's arm casually drapes around you and kisses you on the cheek. "Feeling better now?" he asks, a smug grin tugging at his lips.
You offer a tight nod, forcing a smile. "A bit less hungry, I guess."
Laughter erupts from your companions, their happiness scratching against the gnawing unease that has taken root within you. As the echoes of their laughter fade, a sickening realization settles in your chest – the darkness that once consumed you now seems more suffocating than ever.
Pulling you out of your thoughts, Lilith yanks you away from the other two demons and asks, "So, are you and Onyx a thing again?" she teases, her voice carrying a mischievous undertone. 
"No. You know my cousin already threatened him twice," you reply, shaking your head.
"Well, I don't know how well that'll keep him away. He's certainly got a stubborn streak," Lilith chuckles. "But anyway, you know your cousin, Master Muzan, is real hot."
You groan. This isn't the first time one of your friends has brought that up, but you can't imagine how someone could possibly be considered attractive when they're such a major asshole. "Don't even think about it," you warn her, your tone laced with a touch of bitterness. "Say one thing wrong, and he'll kill you."
Lilith lets out a low laugh, seemingly undeterred. "Oh, I know," she replies casually, she's totally unfazed by what you just said. "But he's still cute."
You roll your eyes, a faint smile tugging at the corners of your lips. "Lilith, you've got strange taste in men," you remark.
She grins back at you. "Can't help it. Demons have their own appeal."
The conversation then takes a slightly more serious turn as she probes you this time. "By the way, why aren't you and Muzan ever together?" she asks, her eyes narrowing slightly, a hint of curiosity in her gaze.
You pause, choosing your words carefully. You know that Muzan could be crafty, using Lilith to gather information on you. "You know how it is," you reply nonchalantly, your tone dismissive. "Busy schedules, different paths. We're not as close as we used to be."
Lilith nods, seemingly satisfied with your response. "Fair enough," she says, and then with a wink, she adds, "But if you ever find out he's looking for a wife, let me know."
You can't help but laugh, a genuine sound that cuts through the tension. "Trust me, that'll never happen," you respond, your voice carrying a playful edge.

After that haunting night, you settle into a new routine. Most of the time, you sustain yourself on the leftovers left behind by the other demons. Their insatiable hunger often leaves behind a morbid buffet of discarded human remains, and you've become skilled at scavenging from their gruesome feasts.
But, there are also times when the hunger becomes unbearable and a gnawing emptiness threatens to consume you whole. In those times, you revert to your old ways as an instrument of death.
Now, as you train with Giyu to become a demon slayer and create an unexpected connection with him, a glimmer of hope blossoms within you. You haven't felt the need to eat in the year you woke up and you haven't even seriously considered eating him... yet.
