I know I've been Dick (Gumshoe) posting a lot recently and it's not particularly intentional but I have also been rotating him in my mind.

Most loyal man in the world enters an institution that seems to corrupt the morals of everyone who comes into contact with it. Is incredibly shit at his job. Swears he's a good detective despite repeatedly almost being fired. Comes back every time and gets mad because everyone he cares about keeps getting arrested. Does not connect this to the fact that he arrests the wrong people constantly and the only reason he gets in trouble for it is because unlike everyone else he works with, he isn't fiddling with the evidence to justify it.

His best friend is his boss who also keeps cutting his pay because as mentioned previously, he is shit at his job. He outlasts pretty much everyone else in AA because he is the only person not constantly getting caught up in convoluted murder schemes. Presumably this is because he's too busy painting animatronics to actually notice what is happening around him.

Just a few fun fact!

This is my design for Telemachus when he’s approx in his mid-late thirties

The bulk of his design is the same aside from the new shawl/cape thing (I can’t remember what it’s called) and the change in arm bands. I like to imagine Telemachus isn’t super picky with his clothes, his old outfit worked well enough he just had extra accessories as the eldest prince/king.

He also grew his hair out longer to mimic Ody’s (I like the designs of Ody with long hair when he returns to Ithaca 🫣)

Telegonus is approx in his mid-late twenties. Him and Telemachus are roughly ten years apart in age, though I imagine Telegonus looks a bit younger due to being a demigod.

Telemachus also looks a little bit younger but i imagine that’s likely from Athena occasionally making the entire royal family a little younger. This is based off how Athena would make Penelope and Odysseus look younger in the Odyssey, it’s just not a major change.

Telegonus takes after Circe the most physically and personality wise. He does have Ody’s mischievous side though

I like the idea of Circe having cat/lion like elements (cat like eyes, mane of hair, etc.) so that was the idea behind Telegonus’ design. He has fluffy hair, I tried to mimic cat like eyes, and his nose shape was slightly inspired by lion noses though I mostly just wanted to give him a bigger nose regardless. He also had sun motifs in honour of peepaw Helios 💕

y'know, probably because i hate simple power dynamics a lot, but i really love how weird and complicated power dynamics are in tlt.

like, in gtn, harrow makes the assumption that coronabeth is "the dominant" in her relationship with ianthe, but we as the audience know that ianthe has power over her because of coronabeth's secret, and coronabeth often ends up coming across as more submissive in her interactions with ianthe.

harrow holds a significant amount of power over gideon, but gideon also holds more power over her than she herself is aware of, because all of gideon's actions affect harrow.

john is the most powerful character in the entire series, but his personality is so docile and non-confrontational that even as god, he's more likely to obey than demand.

then, and thank you tamsyn muir so much for writing them the way you did, there's characters like cam and pal, who seem to have no power dynamic at all. they're equals. camilla obeys palamedes, but not because she has to, rather because their goals almost always align. palamedes takes camilla's advice and supports her in any way he can, not because he's afraid of her or she holds power over him, but rather because he trusts her to know what to do. they work as one.

that's why paul can exist as the perfect lyctor, because they're made up of two souls working together, rather than one soul consuming or suppressing another.

There’s something about the hunger games series that I find really interesting. The something I’m referring to is Gale. Specifically his fate.

So often I see people say ‘Gale die’ (which I myself have said) or ‘he should have died instead of Finnick’. Yes I would have loved for Finnick to survive more than anything. And if THG needed a death of a main character then Gale would have been my automatic choice.

But-

There’s something so satisfying about Katniss choosing to never see Gale again. ‘Goodbye Gale’ feels so much more powerful and good. Because we know Katniss Everdeen. If Gale had died she would have felt so much guilt it would have been unbearable. Even after knowing what Gale did. He was still her closest thing to a friend when she was young. He helped her survive after her Dad was killed. If he died she would still miss him and she would blame herself for it. Because she’s still a young adult going through trauma and war and human beings tend to turn those negative feelings and thoughts towards themselves.

So her choosing to never see Gale is a slap in the face to him. Which I find beautiful. If he died, he’d never feel the guilt of killing all of those people, those children, the guilt of killing Prim. He wouldn’t have known what happened. He’d never pay for the way he treated Katniss and Peeta. But now- now he has to live with the fact that he killed his closest friend’s (/girlfriend’s) sister. The one thing in life she loved more than anything. The person she loved more than the world. He has to live with the fact that Katniss hates him, that he disgusts her, that he reminds her of the very evil they tried to destroy and she never wants to see him again.

Call me horrible or cruel for liking that but honestly Gale deserves what he got. I’m not saying he should be tortured to death but I just think death would have been a little too fast to justify his actions and behaviour.
