Not a horror movie, but SOMA is a really good game that could work for a heartbreaking Trigun AU. For an actual movie rec, Dark Water (2002) is a good one.

okay forgive me because i've seen the remake of dark water from 2005 n while i imagine there are some significant differences between iterations, i'm gonna say i get the gist of it, but.

so i realize i've never actually spoken at length about my own trigun college au over here and since the fic is in my drafts indefinitely this is WILDLY out of context but like. i never actually landed on a backstory for vash and knives, i figure that true to canon vash has a lot of holes in his memory and knives won't fill those in for him so this sort of thing wouldn't really come up in the story, and as far as vash is aware life might as well have started when rem adopted them

i think the only way vriska could have "fixed" roses teen alchaholism is announcing to everyone (but rose ofc) shes going to start an intervention and then the rest of the meteor panicking cause they know shes going to fuck it up so bad so they collectively get their shit together to help rose before vriska can

on top of slapping the mug of wine out of rose's hands every chance she got, she would 100% have a "heart-to-heart" with rose

this utter disaster of a social interaction would betray not only vriska's lack of understanding of human social relationships ("You're sad that adult human squatter 'mom' of yours isn't around anymore when all she did was leech off you and play dum8 mind games????????") but also a cringe-inducing level of tone-deaf projection. ("8elieve me, Lalonde, I know ha8its are a tough thing to 8reak, 8ut your lazy 8itch of a human lusus dying was the 8est thing that could've ever happened to you. You're a free 8ird! No hungry mouths to feed and you don't have to deal with the CONSTANT N8GGING anymore. So stop 8oo-hooing and 8oozing yourself into an early grave! It's fucking path8ic.")

this would have a net-zero effect on rose's addiction/recovery trajectory---immediately after, sure, she might've had a binge motivated by self-loathing, but in the long run all that would happen is rose learning not to drink where vriska might see. there would be potential for ultimately sad and destructive "games" of hide-the-bottle, resulting in disastrous animosity between the two of them, but . . . rose can just alchemize more if vriska finds/destroys her stash lol.

vriska can't fix rose's alcoholism, or anyone's for that matter. you can't make people recover, not if they're not ready to, and any positive intervention on vriska's part would be nothing but a bandaid on something that is ultimately rose's journey and character arc. it literally is not about vriska.

on the other hand, vriska's aliveness and presence on the meteor absolutely would prevent terezi's faygo dependence and relationship with gamzee. (well, if not outright preventing the gamzee thing, her presence would at least mitigate the influence gamzee had over terezi's life pre-retcon). (IF, that is, you think fridging the clown is a lazy and unsustainable solution)

Meteorain

One of my favorite cards to use in the early days of Duel Links, Meteorain holds a special place in my heart. It almost makes it disappointing that I don't really like looking at the art super close up like this lol. The part I dislike the most is definitely how the shadows on this guy's face seem so much lighter when viewed up close. From far away (how you'd view it on an actual card), his face shadows look dark/cohesive enough that it enhances the glow from his eyes enough that it looks eerie. Here it's toned down a lot, which actually shifts the focus downward towards his mouth. The way the meteors were rendered is still so cool that it's unreal (they literally look like they're melting/crumbling apart from the heat of rocketing down through the sky), but a little of the impact is missing without this guy looking completely sinister. Up close though, I can't stop looking at the hot pink that they used for the meteor streaks. It's so fantastic and pairs really well with the blue and white swirled sky background.

i'll do the ones i have figured out/can think of

Ace - besties. very close, they have known each other since 15-16. they bond over running away from home, being enby etc. Ace is a good older sibling figure for Finley and looks after him when Mako can't.

Blake - casual friends. they get along p alright, they both got the same laidback demeanor and they get competitive with video games and diss each other. Mako thinks he's a jerk sometimes tho and doesn't hesitate to call him out on it. Bad influence for Finley.

Eclipse - friends, they both bond over family as being an important reason for being in Meteor and both not agreeing with the team's actions.

Aster - reminds her of Finley a little. she finds him amusing.

Fern - thinks he's a prick. he's jealous of her and her younger brother so he gets on their nerves a lot.

Terra - Mako always covers Finley's ears whenever she's around. talks too much for her liking. sometimes it's amusing though.

Taka - acquaintances. Mako doesn't think much of him other than that he's very important to Ace.
