[ Witcher 3 spoilers! ]
As @aromantic-sasuke so perfectly put it about his design: "he looks like adventure". He really does and I love it. Also I noticed how his clothes have several old mended tears and stains, which means he's probably been mending them on the go, in the few lulls while on the run.
Some of them are also a bit oddly placed so it makes u wonder whether it's tears from wear, vegetation, dangerous monsters while portal hopping.. or the weapons of the hunt.
Also he's an elite elf, used to and preferring luxuries (how his hideout looks, the way he beelined to the Ruby lol), but also seemingly unfazed by a bit of dust and grime (the way he didn't mind waltzing into a grand palace after a long ride, scattering road-dust everywhere shdgds, privilege but also, he doesn't seem to overly care), it's an interesting contrast.
..and really, when running for their lives through velen swamps w death snapping at their very heels, and w the fate of the universe at stake, some things are no longer important.
