Trying to orchestrate that is going to be near impossible without some form of covert communication. Alastor has no choice but to surrender the fight - it pains him greatly, but even he knows there’s not much point in resisting. Not if they are to keep this game alive and beating, which they both so keenly want to do. “I won’t be alone,” you challenged, nodding at Shinobu. “Shinobu will be with me every step of the way —“

“Sanemi —“

“You cannot ask me to endure that, Y/N. Not again.” Sanemi finally lifted his head to meet your gaze. His stare was both accusatory and desperate, but underneath it all was pain, raw and fresh. Pain that tightened his features, visceral enough that you felt it worm itself into your chest and threaten to crush what remained of your heart.

“I do not understand you,” you whispered. “You cannot stand to look at me, yet you act as though the idea of being apart from me would be nothing short of torture.”

“It would be,” Sanemi did not tear his eyes away from the fire crackling in the hearth. “And I’m not sure I’d survive it a second time.”

“It is only the bond, Sanemi.” You said dully, and his head finally turned toward you. You swallowed thickly around the lump that formed in your throat under the searing weight of his stare. “The bond is making you feel compelled to go with us.”

Sanemi watched you for a long moment before looking away, almost in resignation. “Aye, if that’s what you choose to believe.”

“You did not see him, Sister. When you went missing.” Genya said quietly. “I thought he’d gone mad. He was ready to rip the Wood apart with his bare hands if it meant finding you.”
