An extra Robert and mr cycle drawing for the soul 🙏
Genuinely a bit obsessed with these two, please does anyone else understand 😭 i need them to sit in a grassy field together and vent each others traumas, i think theyd benefit from that.
Btw, (paradoxcicle by @blipple-is-confused) the author of the fic always reblogs my art and says nice things about it and im always too awkward to reblog and thank them, so ill just say now, thank you :] your fic is awsome! i know how cool the feeling is whenever people draw fanart of your story, so i will NEVER stop drawing fanart as long as this fic keeps going, because it DESERVES THE HYPE!!!
Side note mr cycle and robert deserve the world.

When you color in traditional art what markers do you use? If you are able to, can you share your process? Side note your style is AWSOME AND SUPER CUTE!!!🩵💙
Thank you!!!
I usually use a basic water color set, some water based markers (usually felt tipped or my Mildliner markers from Walmart). Maybe a fine liner or ballpoint pen if I feel up to it. It works fine to just do a wash of watercolor over the top of the pencil sketch and just color it in with the markers afterwards in my experience. The watercolor seals in the graphite and prevents it from smudging as much.
Kinda like this

JOOO you used to sell swords?? That's so cool!!! If you feel like reminiscing and using this as an opportunity to tell everyone about that very awsome sounding job, I would love to hear about it :D if not just take this as me being a tumblr mutual who wants to be your friend now even more 😂 swords are so cooool
I sure did! Oooh my god. You have no ide what sort of pandora's box you've opened. I love talking weaponry. I also spent an unreasonably long time trying to dig up old pics.
So i snatched this unreal job by a total accident. During uni, a friend of a friend of mine were preparing to go to study abroad for a few months and needed a temporary replacement. And when we met for the first time, half jokingly asked if i liked swords. Yes, yes i do find all kinds of blades incredibly sexy thank you very much. And not a lot of time later i was sitting behind the counter. And stayed there for roughly three years.
It was a sword and decorational weaponry shop. I mean it still is. But i may talk about it past tense because i'm not there anymore. 😭 We had like functional swords and daggers for HEMA and other traditional stuff. Lots and lots of katanas and a few wakizashis and tantos for martial arts or just for decour. We even had like the long ones.. what are they called.. odachi and nodachi! And that sort of spear like a guandao, naginata. There were khukri knives as well. Modern knives.. A lot of stuff. And then decorational stuff from movies, anime or video games for just to put on a wall or elevate a cosplay.
Even decorational fire arms up until modern stuff. Altho fire arms where strictly decorational items, manufactures in ways that they were safe and unchangable into usable stuff. And a fewfigures, jewellery and some tarot cards and some other nick-nacks that fit the theme.
I don't have access to my drives at the moment but i found some old pictures.
Okay so this was the second showroom, i can't find picture of the old one, i liked that one better but there was a location change and this one is smaller, less packed. But still the important parts are there. These pictures are about 3 years old as well at this point.
Please note the little knight with the megaphone in the corner on the monitor. I designed that one. Precious friend shaped little dude.
This picture is Ezio's dagger from Assassin's Creed. It's not dirty just freshly out of the shipping box, swimming in grease to protect it from rusting. This one was a functional piece. The handle seems wide but it's not disproportionate, only my hands are small.
But we had like.. i dunno sabers of many kinds..and chinese swords with rigid blades to those weird but really fun floppy ones as well.
That green wall belonged to the old showroom my beloved 😭
Also there were pieces of armour and all. Not just full but chainmails and roman style, shields. Bows and Crossbows. Basically everything.
And like besides the selling and online customer service stuff, i did a lot of polishing, i probably enjoyed that the most. Of course the heavier damage or problems were handled by proper craftsmen but a simple polishing job? Gimme! -insert grubby hands- I'm gonna spend half a day on it but you gonna see yourself in it. Like this below. The left side is still unpolished, all foggy, but see the right? You can see the red shirt guy pretty good already. This helmet was so pretty after i was finished with it. I was so proud. 😭
And then there were some modern stuff. With these i also did the smaller mechanical epairs like a jammed spring or a loose trigger and the like.
This beretta was the first i took apart but i conquered it like a champ 😂 I was asking my boss if i could give it a try and he said as long as i don't break any additional parts go a head. Needless to say the second little guy landed in my lap without any question.
And there were so many other little highlights. I loved so many of the customers. I loved talking about their stuff or just listening to their stories. Uhh i miss it so much i can't even begin.

egghogs art is so so cool, all the art you make and receive is always so good, it cant be overstated how awsome this au and all the art that exists of it is
(side note but i cant imagine the feeling of getting art for a thing you made, knowing someone randomly decided to spend time and effort because they liked a thing i made would actually make me cry of joy
people that make fanart for stories people make are always gonna be so so awsome forever and ever)
I KNOW, RIGHT? the response i get for my silly little sonic au still kind of boggles my mind. im so grateful for all the art (including a couple FANFICS????!?!!!?) that people have made!!! i am SO FUCKING GRATEFUL for people taking time out of their day to draw some guys i made up. its honestly just my goal in My Life to inspire other people to make art and be creative, so i'm just really happy i could at least accomplish that in some way
sometimes when i post about my au i feel like goob in meet the robinsons. "hey i like your au!" "THEY ALL HATED ME." so its nice to get reminders that people enjoy my thing. honestly im kind of baffled but also happy that my insane ramblings have some kind of audience

17 Questions for 17 People
Tagged ages ago by @starry-skies-hazy-eyes. Sorry it took me so long! 😅
Nickname: I mean I have a few but the main ones are Opal, Opie, Lex, Lexi, and Alex
Zodiac: Virgo baybee
Height: 5'11 to 6'0 depending on which doctor you ask
Last thing I googled: Tangier. I'm watching Only Lovers Left Alive and that's the city Eve lives in, so I wanted to see which country it's located in
Song stuck in my head: Enjoy the Silence by Depeche Mode
Number of people you follow: Oh jfc it's been so long, hold on -looks- 1,210 and probably over half of them are dead and abandoned lol
Amount of sleep you get: 6-7 hours on a work day if I don't decide to go full gremlin but now that I work super early mornings again, I've been passing out by like 6pm lmao
Lucky numbers: 7 & 8 because why not?
Dream job: I mean it used to be makeup artistry but Sephora formally dimmed that light for me for the foreseeable future (read: retail is trash), so I'm in limbo on what I wanna do. It would be nice to get into a university and work to become an art teacher though!
What are you currently wearing: Black cotton shorts with white piping and a black tshirt that reads "Thou shalt not try me. -mood 24:7" in that super goth ancient english font
Movies/books that summarize me: Uh, none that I can think of would summarize me but I love movies like Only Lovers Left Alive, Encanto, Memoirs of a Geisha and things like that along with books that fall into the sapphic and/or fantasy category so? I guess gay, nerdy and spooky?
What is your favorite instrument: I can't play any to save my life but electric guitars will always have my heart
Favorite song right now: Ohhhh you can't do this to me! Ok so the few that get played on loop currently would be Enjoy the Silence (Depeche Mode), In My Side (Vision Video Band), Dark Nights (Dorothy), Innocence (Halestorm), Good Girl (Morganne), Now or Never (Meet Me @ The Altar), Labour (Paris Paloma), and My Goodbye (Jorge Rivera-Harris)
Describe your aesthetic: Goth lmao. More specifically some weird combo between witchy goth, pinup/mortcia-esque goth, and goth metal depending on the day. Witchy and casual goth outweigh the others however
Favorite author: I'm just getting back into reading, so I'll have to update you later
Favorite animal noise: The little squeak animals make when they yawn and those little tiny whines when they want your attention
Random fact about myself: I can sing pretty well but I'll absolutely never let anyone but my best friend hear it bc stage fright
I tag: Ok so I don't have a whole 17 people to tag in this, so I'll tag the few I can think of (note: You're literally under zero obligation to do this if you're tagged) and leave it open to anyone else who wants to give it a go, SO- @robotswilcry @jetpackdolphin @silver-sass @ephemeraltea @beautiful-flower22 @needleslace @padawanton @awsome-space-dragon @shynerdywitch @probably-a-mermaid

The Beginning of a Hero’s Journey
Here’s my entry for the @voltron-ss for @ttsommam. When I saw the Historical AU the history minor in me got very excited lol. I recently took a class on ancient Greece, so I thought a little Persian Wars AU would be cool. Obviously it is not 100% historically accurate to fit in Voltron stuff. Hope you enjoy! Happy Holidays!
Only platonic ships in this fic. It is Pidge-centric (I mostly refer to her at Katie in the story), but the characters are a part of it.
Summary:
Katie decides to find what really happened to her father and brother in the Battle of Thermoylae. Her journey leads her to joining the Athenian navy and to new friends.
Katie stared at her reflection in the water. Would she really be able to pull off this crazy plan? Looking at her brother’s old knife in her hand, she knew she had to try. It had only been almost a month since Matt disappeared with her father. They were not even supposed to be there in Thermoylae. There were only supposed to be Spartan soldiers lead by King Leondias and his second in command, Shiro. All Spartans died that day, unfortunately that included her Athenian family. Why were they even there? Even though he was a Spartan, Katie had heard a lot about Shiro and respected how good he was at leading. It was hard to believe that they would allow two Athenian soldiers to die with them.
The more she thought about it the more determined she became. Katie now took the knife and put it up to the back of her neck and closed her eyes. In one swift motion she cut off most of her hair. She opened her eyes and once again looked into the water. Katie’s eyes widened as she saw Matt stare back at her. She never realized that she and Matt looked so much alike. Tears well up in her eyes, seeing her brother in herself saddened her. Pushing her tears away, she picked up her father’s old bronze armor. Even before the wars with Persia started, her father, Sam, was a hoplite soldier for Athens. This was the armor that he had worn in the Battle of Marathon. The dents and scratches in the metal told the story of the brave Athenian soldiers. After Spartan soldiers could not come, they still managed not only to hold their ground, but also win by a landslide. She struggled to lift the large, round shield. Unfortunately, Athenian women were not trained to fight. What little she knew from listening to her father and brother would have to do.
Both Matt and Katie’s grew up wanting to fight for Athens. Their father told stories of honor and glory. Now Katie was disguising herself as a man in order to find out where Matt was. She got up and started walking towards the acropolis. Despite the weight of the armor, she managed to stand tall as she walked to some official looking people. “Name?” one of the men asked in a bored voice.
Katie thought for a minute, “Pidge.” She answered finally. It was the name her brother always called her. Ever since they were younger and she was able to climb higher in a tall tree than him. He told her that she was like a bird. At first, Katie resented the name, but she came to love it. She even missed that nickname after Matt left.
The man wrote down the name, without checking anything and sent her to the docks. She could not read the document she was given, so she listened to him. Seeing the big triremes in the dock finally made her realize that she had been signed up for the navy and not the hoplites. It was too late to go back and she was ushered onto a ship.
On the trireme, she sat nervously by a big oar. She didn’t even notice when two men sat near her. “You nervous too?” Katie looked up to see a large man with a gentle look on his face. “Don’t worry. We’re all nervous here. Name’s Hunk.”
“Pidge.” Katie introduced herself. Something about this guy felt welcoming. He gave off an aura of home.
“Making friends already, Hunk?” the other guy asked, then he turned to Katie, “I’m Lance by the way.” Katie smiled at him. She was glad that she ended up on a trireme with people like Lance and Hunk. The three of them started talking while others got on. Lance and Hunk started arguing about something Katie did not understand when she looked to the end of the trireme. There was a sad-looking guy sitting all by himself. The other people were talking with those sitting around them.
Hunk and Lance had stopped talking and noticed where Katie was looking. “There’s a seat still open near us.” Hunk pointed out, clearly not comfortable with the guy being all alone.
“I’ve got this.” Lance said as he got up. Katie and Hunk watched as Lance walked over to the guy and talked with him. At first the guy looked annoyed at Lance, but annoyance soon turned to shock. He was not expecting anyone to invite him into their friend group. Soon Lance was walking back with the guy. “Hey guys this is Keith.” Lance introduced him and Keith waved at them with a small smile. He sat down in the open seat near them.
“I’m Pidge.” Kaite introduced herself to him. Hunk then introduced himself and before they knew it they started off.
Being a rower on a trireme actually proved to be relaxing. Just move the oar in time to the beat. She began to let her mind drift to her family. She was hoping to have a chance to visit Thermoylae to see if there was any evidence of anything left behind. Something wet hitting her nose brought her out of her thoughts. She looked up and the clouds had become an angry, dark grey. Katie frowned.
“This isn’t going to be fun.” Hunk seemed to be reading her mind. She looked around at her new friends. They all looked concerned, but everyone kept on rowing. The rain began falling harder and harder. Soon it became clear that they were in a major storm. As the rain and wind picked up the waves got rougher. Katie had to put all of her strength into moving the oar in time. The rain pounded against her face so she could not open her eyes. The sounds of the screams of men were hidden under the sounds of the storm. They hit a particularly large wave and Katie thought she heard someone yell, “Hold on!” before everything went black.
Katie slowly opened her eyes to bright sunlight. She seemed to be laying on a beach. Looking around some more she saw Hunk sitting near her looking out into the ocean. “Hunk?” she asked.
“Pidge!” Hunk exclaimed, “You’re finally awake. Keith and Lance will be so happy when they come back!” Katie’s memory slowly came back to her. The trireme got into a bit of trouble in the storm, she wondered if anyone else survived.
“We don’t know if anyone else survived. It’s only the four of us.” Katie really wondered if Hunk was a mind reader. At least she had an answer. She tried to sit up, but Hunk kept her down. “Wait for Keith and Lance to come back with food and water. You’ve been out for some time.
They did not have to wait long. Keith and Lance returned with Lance yelling out, “You guys will never guess what we found!”
“Hopefully food and water like you left to get.” Katie said turning her head to look at them. It was not just Keith and Lance walking towards them. There was an oddly familiar man with a scar across his nose and some of his hair was white.
“Hi.” The man said, “The name’s Shiro.”
“Shiro?” Katie asked. “As in the Shiro from Sparta who died in Thermoylae?” The others looked at her in confusion as to why she knew that.
“Yes actually,” Shiro replied, “but I obviously didn’t die. I was taken prisoner along with two Athenians that were with us. I just recently managed to escape the Persians.”
“Where are they?” Katie asked, to which Shiro gave her a confused look. Katie clarified, “The two Athenians.”
Shiro sadly shook his head, “We were taken to different prisons. I have no idea where Matt or Sam are.” Katie’s heart dropped. She thought she was so close to finding them. At least she knew they were alive.
“We’ve got a bigger problem.” Keith said. “We have no idea where we are and no way of getting off this island.”
“I can help with the first problem.” Shiro said, “We’re in Ionia.”
“That’s good, we should be able to find people somewhere.” Hunk said. They all agreed to start their search after they ate something. Hunk, Lance, and Keith spent a lot of the meal asking Shiro questions about the battle and his time in captivity. Katie stayed quiet, thinking about her brother and father.
“You look a lot like him.” Shiro said, pulling Katie out of her thoughts.
“What?” she asked.
“Matt.” Shiro responded. “You look like one of the Athenians who was capture with me. His name was Matt.”
After thinking for a short time Katie answered him. “Matt is my older brother.” Her three friends gave their condolences while Shiro gave her a knowing look. Katie then realized that he knew. Matt would have never talked about his younger brother, Pidge, because that person did not exist. He would have talked about his younger sister, Katie.
After they finished eating, they got up and started to walk in a random direction hoping to find civilization. As they walked, Katie stayed in the back and noticed that Shiro fell behind to walk next to her.
“I won’t tell them if you don’t want me to Katie.” Shiro said.
Katie smiled, “I know. Matt wrote home often. He really looked up to you.” Shiro smiled back and put a hand on her shoulder.
“Stop right there!” a voice yelled out. A man with red hair and a weird mustache held a sword pointed them. “Are you Persians?” he asked them.
Shiro stepped forward and took charge. “I’m from Sparta and these four are Athenians. We have escaped the Persians. We mean you no harm.” The man looked them over trying to judge if Shiro was telling the truth. He seemed to decide to trust them and told them to follow him.
“My name is Coran.” He told them as he led them to a shack. I work for the royal family of Ionia. Because of the Persians I am hiding the princess here. They went inside to find a beautiful girl with dark skin and white hair.
“Allura.” She introduced herself. “You must be the heroes that the prophecy spoke of.”
“Prophecy?” Lance asked.
Allura explained, “Before the wars with Persia, my father went on a trip to Delphi. The oracle there told him that five warriors would save the world from Persian rule. Their trireme is to be the ship my father built for them, Voltron. They are to be called the paladins of Voltron.”
“Us?” Hunk asked, nervous. “Save the word? Fight the most powerful empire in the world.” They all looked at each other. If they learned anything from the stories that they were told, it’s that the Oracles are never wrong. There was nothing they could do, but train and fight.
Katie was happy with this development. This meant that they would be in close proximity to the Persian Empire and her family. She could easily keep up her look for them even with this prophecy. The prophecy even made it easier. The friends she was with made everything even better. This would surely be an adventure that would be told for centuries, just like that of Achilles and Hercales. She smiled, “Well then, we better get to work.”
THE END

How did you end up in the egypt trip? :0 Out of the people with who you traveled, who is your favorite :3c ((Hey i really like your blog and art!!!! Katsuko is awsome I love her-))
“I went on a class trip to Egypt, me and Jo got lost and we accidentally ran into Dio. He gave us ugly fleshbuds and sent us off. The gang helped us remove them after we attacked them. I wanted to come with to defeat Dio, because he hurt my friend, and I am not having that. She wanted to come with for the same reason. “Jouta” didn’t want us to come with but Joseph, due to the fact I nearly killed him, decided it would be best to have us on their side rather than Dio’s. And uuuuhh...my fave travel buddy? Johanna, she’s my best friend, she wins by a long run. But Polnareff is my breed of stupid so we vibe too. But Jo is def my fave. Also! Thank you! I love you too anon!”
Artists note! “Thank you! I’m so happy people like my art and characters! You all are so sweet! I am very slow when it comes to art and I forget things often so thank you for your patience!”
(Asks open! Also they nicknamed Jotaro “Jouta” because of a weird dream Katsuko had about him and kakyoin having a child named Jouta ;))

Lower Rosedale Hike
Hi everyone and welcome to Buggy Adventures. In this blog I get to share with you one of my favourite walks. It is a favourite of mine for a few reasons. One, because it holds sentimental value as a walk I have completed a number of times growing up with my parents. Two, because of the stunning setting of Rosedale and three, it features two wonderful North Yorkshire pubs, one of which recently held the title of Yorkshire’s best pub. At just over eight and a half miles it is certainly worth donning your hiking boots but not overly stretching most people’s walking capabilities.
So Leela and I strapped Thomas in his car seat and we set off to Rosedale. We had arranged to meet Maggie and Joe at the car park of the White Horse Inn at Rosedale at 10.30am.
Perhaps I should take this opportunity to introduce you to Maggie and Joe. Joe and I have been friends ever since we were at Prior Pursglove College in Guisborough together back in the midd 1990′s. Through Joe I also became very good friends with Joe’s slightly older brother Jamie and their younger sister Lucy. I sort of became the other brother really and we all shared a common interest in outdoor activities such as mountain biking, camping and hiking along with drinking beer and nights out! Joe, Jamie and I would often pile into one of our cars and head over the A66 to the Lake District to take on some hiking, climbing and camping. Sometimes we would wild camp in our tents, find a remote bothy to spend the night or a camp site around the Keswick and Borrowdale area. Usually beer would be involved as we would stop off at a supermarket en route to stock up on cans of Boddingtons or Tetley Smooth Bitter and our rucksacks would be crammed full of cans for the outward trip. The return trip would be so much lighter with the empty cans squashed up! There were a few other occasions where we would set off in the direction of Keswick with the best of intentions to camp and hike only to be distracted by the many pubs in Keswick and the most hiking we ended up doing was walking up and down the high street calling into pubs. When Leela and I married in 2012 Joe was my best man, so safe to say we are good mates. Maggie and Joe met around 2010 and with Maggie’s own passion for the outdoors it was obvious that they were a perfect match for each other and they married last summer. Now we all try to meet up as often as we can for walks or camp trips.
Right back to the present day. Maggie and Joe arrived shortly after we did and after popping into the White Horse to check that we were ok to park our cars in their car park we set off. The walk begins by following the farm track from the pub’s car park in a South Easterly direction towards Lastingham, our halfway point. It was a warm sunny day so Leela ensured that Thomas was well lathered in sun cream and I made sure that the buggy’s hood was up sheltering the little man from the North Yorkshire sun. The track is home to a few houses on the right hand side of the track all with stunning views over the very pretty dale. One of the houses has an art studio which is sometimes open to the passing walkers to call in. As we chatted together the walk seemed to be going by with ease. We soon found ourselves at the end of the farm track and at this point the path becomes a single tracked moorland path. There a number of paths to choose from here but it is the path that hugs the wall on the left hand side that needs to be followed. Now the terrain became more challenging for the three wheeled buggy but as it a “go anywhere buggy” I was determined that the buggy would prevail and prevail it did. The path twists and turns, goes up and down, over rocks, boulders and ruts with relative ease. Or perhaps it is down to the awsome driving! At times Joe offered to help carry the buggy but I am determined that the buggy driving can be done by one person as much as possible. By picking the two back wheels off the ground and using the fixed front wheel as the only contact with the path I was easily able to guide the buggy along the single track and over any obstacles. This part of the path continues over for at least a couple of miles giving wonderful views as a reward. Once again Thomas spent most of this section asleep, so he certainly didn’t mind the bumps and rocking incurred.
We stopped at the end of the single track where we met a farm on the left and a remote tarmac road named Askew Rigg Lane. We took on some water and one of our cheese and salami ciabatta buns, we really must think of some new sandwich fillings! Maggie and Joe delved into their packed lunch too and I felt a little envious of their choice of beef or ham and pickle buns!
After resting a little while under the shade of some trees we set off along Askew Rigg Lane which then becomes Bents Lane. At the end of the tree lined lane we came to a “T” junction and turned right onto Syke Brow and followed this road for about a mile into the “chocolate box” village of Lastingham, our halfway point of the walk.
At Lastingham we called into the wonderful Blacksmiths Arms. Opposite the pub is the church of St Mary’s which is a stunning church. There is an ancient crypt under the church which is well worth a visit. The crypt was built by Stephen of Whitby when he refounded the Saxon monastery in 1078 and the crypt was built over where it is thought that St Cedd is said to be buried. St Cedd was a missionary from Lindesfarne who founded the orginal wooden monastery around AD 654. The massive church was never finished though, probably owing to William the Conqueror’s ‘Harrying of the North’ and for a number of centuries the partly erected church fell into decay. Between the 13th and 17th Centuries the church was again in use but was rebuilt in the 17th Century. The huge Norman pillars in the crypt are surviving evidence of the scale of just how big a monastery was planned before being abandoned all those centuries ago.
Back in the rear garden of the Blacksmiths Arms we enjoyed a very refreshing drink and packet of crisps to re-energise us. We enjoyed the break and Thomas got the chance to leave the buggy and certainly enjoyed the attention he received from Aunty Maggie and Uncle Joe.
Now rested and having polished off a rather nice pint of Saltaire Blonde it was time to get moving. It is worth noting that the Blacksmiths Arms does not have any baby changing facilities, so you may need to do a nappy change alfresco, as we did! Thomas took his place back in the buggy and we headed back through the village and turned left onto the High Street which heads steeply uphill and passes the Lastingham Grange Hotel at the top of the hill. Joe offered to do some buggy driving and I must say, he appeared very much at home at this.
At this point the tarmac ends and we entered through a gate onto the moor where there is a bench with lovely panoramic views. As we hadn’t been going for too long after our pub break we carried on and took the path going straight over the moor signposted for Rosedale. Joe carried on with the buggy driving and shortly after we passed a walker who complimented Joe on pushing the buggy so far. He had only been driving for 20 minutes but took the praise modestly! It is actually surprising that this path continues at a slight gradient all the way from the top of Lastingham High Street to the ancient Ana Cross which we were aiming for as our final sandwich stop.
Ana (Ainhowe) Cross is one of the 37 crosses and ancient markers that are found on the moorland. In fact, Ana Cross is often regarded as the finest example. I have visited this cross on many occasion with my parents at various times in my life, so it is quite fitting that I am now able to visit with my own family. Ana Cross is hugely exposed and at three metres high has often required repair work to ensure it stands to this day and beyond. It is hard to believe that it was once eight metres high. What a sight that must have been. We all took the time to rest at the base of the cross and ate the remainder of our packed lunches knowing that it is all down hill from here to the finish.
Now we headed along the last few hundred yards of the the moorland path to reach the Hutton-le-Hole to Rosedale road at the top of the famous Rosedale Chimney Bank, which we were about to head down. At this point I made sure I had the safety strap attached from the buggy to my wrist and ensured that Thomas was well strapped in his seat. Why? Because this is the steepest road in the country. It is named “Chimney Bank” as there was once a tall stone chimney here, part of the remains of the ironstone mining that took place at Rosedale. The chimney was dismantled in the 1970′s when a local land owner convinced the authorities that it had become unsafe but many of the locals were sceptical of this and insist that the landowner wanted the valuable stone to use on his land. It is such a shame that it no longer stands but many of the ironwork kilns are still visible now. However I will save this information for a future blog as the “Upper Rosedale” walk takes in much of this history and it is one that we will include in a future Buggy Adventure.
We headed down the one in three gradient road passing some very remote terraced cottages on our left, again left over from a bygone industrial era for this very tranquil dale. As we descended towards the White Horse Farm Inn we passed Rosedale’s nine hole golf course on our left and opposite the road to the hamlet of Thorgill we turned right into the car park of the pub with the last quarter of the bank remaining untouched which heads into the village of Rosedale Abbey. Again more information of this lovely village to come in a future adventure.
Just under 8.5 miles and 1,060 feet of elevation gain, mainly in warm sunshine apart from the last few miles, made for an enjoyable and slightly testing walk, especially the single track which really tested the buggy’s “go anywhere” capabilities. Time for a refreshment stop outside the White Horse Inn, which in 2012 was voted as Yorkshire’s best pub and an opportuity to soak in probably one of the best beer garden views you are likely to find. Even Thomas found the walk thirsty work as he was trying to reach for Mummy’s cider!
Next time Buggy Adventures goes on tour as we head to Northumberland.
Boldy going where no buggy has gone before……….
