One of the things I like about unascended Astarion's outcome, particularly in a romance, as a freak, is that the moments of edginess kind of pop. Like adding salt to some confections.

Ascended is just your flat out villain ending, and that's fine. That's fun. Full course meal of evil and dead doves.

I just enjoy how you mostly have like apparent relative fluffiness and a pseudo-redemption arc... where you also hunt people for sport and money and eat them, all the while revelling in their terror as they realise they're helpless to your whims and about to die. Hand holding. Wandering the world. Adventuring. Sight seeing. Learning how dates work. Moments of angst due to still unhealed trauma. Finding yourselves. Murder!

Alternatively, for those who aren't pragmatic bastards: reigning over a small legion of the undead in a cursed world of eternal darkness full of nightmare politics where you keep your subjects in line through demonstrations like impalement and brutal execution 'because you care.' Also I don't know how you're feeding those guys down there, because your likely options are raiding other settlements or slave trade.

so, a few days ago i was watching arcane with a bestie, and it was her first time watching it. we actually got as far as the end of act 1 of s2 before she gave up on it, and something funny occurred to me by the end of the first episode. so i wanna talk about cait's war crimes task force for a moment.

LIKE, WHAT WAS THE SELECTION PROCESS FOR THESE PEOPLE

cait marches into the council meeting in her new sexy copaganda outfit (look, whatever her faults you can always count on cait to serve, and you can't gas civillians if you ain't cute), and the war crimes task force is already assembled, armed with custom hextech weaponry, and decked out in their own sexy copaganda outfits. all that without the approval or even the knowledge of the council.

and i just really, REALLY want to know what was the criteria here. bc like, let's look at them:

cait, who was a carnival guard like a week ago, then she got fired and continued to impersonate a cop for the rest of the season, but i guess with marcus's death and everything else that went down everyone just forgot that part, and she just never reminded anyone

vi, who is probably the best fighter of the bunch, and the only one who knows her way around zaun, but she was in prison up until a week ago, certainly never went to whatever piltover's equivalent of a police academy is, joined the enforcers earlier today, and has extremely complicated personal feelings both towards the institution of enforcers and their intended target (i will not go off on a tangent about how vi's character was butchered this season, i will not go off on a tangent about how vi's character was butchered this season, i will not--)

maddie, who literally called herself a junior officer earlier in this same episode

the guy vi got drunk with last night who i'm guessing was an enforcer before that moment, but considering vi is also here and she only became an enforcer a few hours ago, we really mustn't rule anything out

and the fish guy without a single line of dialogue in the entire show, so i suppose one COULD argue that he has the sort of skills that could get him on this task force ... but considering that in ep3 cait and vi just kick maddie and the guys out of the gang moments before they're supposed to actually face jinx, aka the thing they're down there to do in the first place, somehow i don't think so

and the council just??? goes with it??? it doesn't occur to anyone to ask hey cait, maybe bring some experienced officers with you?

Zonai Link au ref sheets!!!!

Basically when Link was placed in the Shrine of Resurrection the shrine's settings were set to Zonai! The Sheikah had built over the original shrine, improving upon the ancient technology left behind. Unfortunately when most of the technology was buried so was the knowledge of the shrines true capabilities.

So basically the Shrine is given an injured Hylian, but since it's settings are set to Zonai the Shrine freaks out like "Oh my goddess this zonai is absolutely fucked up 💀" and spends the next 100 years 'fixing' Link.

Something I often see in discussions regarding Hiccup wanting to change people's minds, is him trying to change Grimmel's being accepted as a part of the story, and it being used as an example of Hiccup's flaws. Except, if my memory serves me correctly, that never actually happened.

Prior to the final battle, Hiccup and Grimmel have three interactions ; when they first meet, when Hiccup & the gang try to capture him, then when Toothless & LF get taken. Not once, or in any of the few times where he's mentioned outside of his scenes, is the idea of changing Grimmel's mind brought up. Hiccup does not attempt to have a conversation about it with neither Grimmel nor the other characters.

In the third movie, Hiccup's motive to change people's minds and get them on Berk's side was removed. It feels like a bit of retcon, because I don't remember anything about Hiccup saying he's not gonna repeat his mistake with Drago.

Um I love DiscoTrain! Rivals/enemies to lovers tends to be pretty fun hehe. I put "ship them because of canon" because it's not fandom that made me ship them, their canon interactions made me like the ship on their own. These two are disasters they hate each other sooo much <3

Well, the Harlequin AU diverges from canon a lot

And in this AU, Jax has a character development arc that starts all because of Gangle, giving opportunity to shine for Ribbun shippers looking for possible Harlequin!Ribbun content without it being incredibly toxic and damaging

This AU in general, while it would stay mostly as just a found-family-friend-group canonically, still opens the possibility of romantically shipping whatever you like because there'd be an abundant amount of interactions within the group. The only exception, being Showtime, as it plays a major role in the story and already has a linear planned storyline relevant to the overarching plot.

But that doesn't mean you can't have your usual Pomni or Caine ships here like FunnyBunny or RoyalTeeth platonically, though I am getting off track

For example, Bunnydoll. In the Harlequin AU, Ragatha is very much constantly annoyed with Jax and loses her carefully-crafted, calm lady-like persona around him because he lives for her reactions. Though that starts to change from annoyance, to amusement; even joining in on the chaos as the story progresses on.

Or Abstragedy; where in this AU, Z is a closed off Puppet who doesn't seem to care about anything in the slightest, except Gangle can see through this giant Puppet's apathetic mask. So Gangle slowly earns Z's trust, enough for Z to open up and be more like themselves around her.

As I've said before, I want the cast to form a healthy relationship here even with their horrible upbringings BECAUSE this is an AU that strives for the best possible outcome for everyone (I do not care shut the fuck up this is MY AU I get to choose the CANON ending); and so I chose relationship dynamics that start off not exactly as healthy, but massively improves overtime and also sticks to the personalities I've assigned to each one (as well as becoming better versions of their prior selves).

Point is, ship what you ship. This AU, rest assured, will provide an open window for you to jump in and grab whatever ship you'll like, give it a ton of content for you to run with it. All in equal terms, except Showtime because that's the main part of the show HAHA
