THEY'RE OLD! I think their species would've evolved back in the carboniferous, when there was much much more oxygen in the air, which allowed insects like Meganeura (dragonfly the size of an eagle) to evolve due to how insect respiratory systems work! Then they just sorta. stuck around, evolving a new way to breathe after the oxygen went way down again.

as for how skylyx splits, i think it's a temporary 'in case of emergency break glass' kind of deal. Splits in half to escape predation, though if the two parts remain split for too long they'll just. die anyway. I don't think they do that much at all in the present time, since they are still pretty damn big. They're smart scavengers, and I think they'd be treated like a crow or raccoon. smart and big but harmless if you treat them well. They WILL ear your internet cables and power lines tho.

also I think they're pretty distantly related to all cybugs other than the mechanimal/dinobot looking ones. they're living fossils and are more like ancestor species than anything. Like if Archeopteryx was still alive with our modern day birds.

Result from yesterdays Emu Bay Shale #paleostream! This was our first Cambrian formation piece AND No. 50 in this series! This place had some interesting challenges attached to it and it's fauna has some fascinating members.

Over the last few decades we have begun to get a better idea of the diversity of radiodonts and the Emu Bay Shale shows us parts of it. In this case we have two simolarly sized anomalicarids. Anomalocaris itself and similarly sized, but filter feeding Echidnacaris.

The tricky parts come in when we look at depositional environment. As this sketch by Pregistorica (https://bsky.app/profile/did:plc:4jvyoxo2m7gkd6ip7z2b6lq5) shows: we have animals living in the shallows, the water collum and in a deep basin BUT, they were all preserved at the bottom of this basin. Which begs the question where...

...to best put the camera for this piece. Eventually we settled for a position just below the beginning of the slope, trying to max the amount of species but also keeping the composition interesting. Size chart this week came from discord users African Mud Turtle and F0ssilized.

Heyy sorry for bullying ur thundercracker again but man TC pining so badly for what be cant have has me in a chokehold, so Im just going to be deliriously rambling a small fanfic in ur inbox,

Thundercracker naturally is kind of standoffish, so while he does have bonds, when he falls in love with jetfire he could never imagine the strength of desire bubbles in him and he can't do anything about it even when Jetfire is right there.

But oh when he does indulge in his attention it feels so addicting and warm. However the feeling after feels like sin, he has already betrayed and lost it all, he can't go back to not having anything again because of his temptations. He has lived this long without. Whatever this is.

When Prometheus stole fire from the gods did he ever reach and feel the heat for himself? Having the flame that gave humanity knowledge and wisdom in his hands... For once Thundercracker finally has a sense of purpose he can be proud of, his contributions to science. But since his love for science intertwines with Jetfire, it chains them together. He knows that once the (F-15) eagle comes he can't fight off the inevitable
