AITA for starting a killing game after a girl rejected me?
Ok so I (Male, 16) go to this really epic school right? And in my class there was this total babe, M (Female, 16) and I tried asking her out but she said no for some reason??? So anyways I took over a whole hospital and put out whole class in it and made them kill each other. Most of them are dead now since they. Y'know. Killed each other. But the people remaining (it includes M, she survived even after I tried to kill her, damn bitch) are all yelling at me and calling me a monster. So like. Yeah.

Danganronpa Manga Rant- Leon and Sayaka:
@yukiteruakari told me about a Danganronpa Manga edition, and OH MY GOD!!! Thankyou so much for this bro omg.
I'm only up to "Junkos" impaling, but it's so much better than the one I have.
I'll put some screenshots below, and the link too because so far it's translated to English.
Why the Manga is better, what it could do for the fandom:
It gives Sayaka and Leon so much more development as characters and seeing as Mondos case is next we might get to see what they talked about in the sauna. (<- there are so many fan theories for that one, and I'm excited to finally get more lore.)
It's hard to be a Danganronpa fan in 2024 because it all happened 14, 12, and 7 years ago. So like... Spike aren't going to just start explaining more lore on twitter randomly because they feel like it, Danganronpa is done, but this manga helps us understand the killers motive.
If ALL of the fandom read it I'd probably assume the "Mondo Brother Killer >:(" cliche that some of the fandom define him as would be gone, because it has his POV instead of a Monokuma flashback and a shitty animated clip of him doing it "for no reason" other than being "strong-strong-strong-strong-strong" (from the canon game and animation 2014.)
LeoXSaya Rant, Manga>>>Animation:
And yes, Sayaka was revealed to be a bit more of a "snake" (she isn't btw) but her motives were humane and we only thought she wasn't because Makoto is the protagonist and wouldn't think bad about any of his friends.
It also gives Leon haters a reason to stfu and enjoy his character design and small role while it lasts, and it's better than playing his FTEs because he's just gloating about picking up chicks and being better than everybody at Baseball despite hating in from what I've seen.
Also, the art is just BETTER.
The dialogue is just BETTER!
They gave Sayaka a reason to invite Leon over. Because in the anime and game yes it's "wow Sayaka is so hot" on Leons part, but wouldn't that mean Leon would've been the person to invite her to HIS room instead?
But in the Manga they explain her thought process, anybody who hasn't read it will probably just go "Sayaka's dumb for inviting a STAR ATHLETE to try and kill!" but she's smart because if she had killed him she already had an alibi. "We were friends! We bonded over music and drank tea together!" or something... saying that, Sayaka couldn't WIN because Makoto knew about the room swapping ofc. And she'd leave evidence and whatnot.
*Sighs* The Animation Butchered Our Boys...:
(BOYS BECAUSE THE ANIMATION BUTCHERED SO MANY CHARACTERS AND GAVE THEM PISSY MOTIVES AND SHIT-)
I hate the anime alot, but the thing that PISSED ME OFF THE MOST (about 1-1 of the animation) WAS LEON'S REACTION. He was having a mental breakdown, which was fine and accurate... probably good as well instead of him screaming "stupid" then losing it halfway through the word and realising his fate quietly.
They give him a moment of remorse.
"I didn't want to... I mean she... she was tring to... kill me... right? I just... didn't know what else to do... okay...?" (quote end)
but then he gets mad.
I don't know about you, but on first watch this ruined it for me. "He's just screaming now..." like... it makes me mad for almost no reason.
He was about to have a very humane moment of "I didn't have a choice..." he's looking down at the pedestal thingy in the court, he's defeated, he's sad, he's been caught. He's in despair.
Then he yells at the others "you would've done the same thing in my shoes!"
And you know what the writers did instead of making him cry after that? Anything... would've been better, but this is the dam animation we're talking about...
"I DIDN'T HAVE A CHOICE OKAY! THE CRAZY SKANK WAS GOING TO KILL ME, WHAT WAS I SUPPOSED TO DO?!"
He did have a choice...
The manga gave him a choice, he tried to save Sayaka. Then he ended up killing her, ON ACCIDENT. That line alone contradicts the fact of any of that happening, he and Sayaka had just bonded hours earlier.
Like, this is my opinion and I've never heard anybody talk about this before, BUT THE WRITERS NEEDED TO WRITE LEON BETTER!!! The game wrote Leon fine, but the animation was a second chance at giving him development!
I liked him trying to escape the court room though. That was a nice touch that I don't think was in the game.
BUT BROOOOO HE CALLED SAYAKA A SKANK HOURS AFTER ADMITTING HE WAS CRUSHING ON HER, DANGANRONPA ANIMATION WHERE'S THE LOGIC!
Like, the scene made me so mad on re-watch and I can't pinpoint why!
Like instead of this: https://youtu.be/CbQ6McYz7U0?t=59
(Good animation though imo, the closeup expressed his emotions nicely-)
HAVE THIS THOUGH, THIS IS SO MUCH BETTER!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
IT JUST HITS WAY BETTER-
Anyway, that's my rant of the day because why not.
The game itself had issues, but compared to the animation it was just so much better, and makes me want to give it a 7/10 instead of a 6...

What do you think of the fan theory on ‘Licorne/Lico’ (established as an alias) the androgynous detective from the ‘Danganronpa Kirigiri’ book series being a young Junko, during her ‘homeless’ years between the flashback of ‘Danganronpa Zero’ and even entering the fashion industry at all? While she was still figuring out what to do with her life? It was apparently a semi-common theory in Japan (that people would independently think up of), given how similar the characters are and how it would add new context to why Junko erased almost all of Kyoko’s memories beyond just Hope’s Peak, if they’d really known each other before. I don’t know a huge amount about the books, but on paper the theory sounds very interesting, to inquire as to your thoughts on it.
The "Junko is Licorne" theory is one that I like in concept, but I believe there is a more satisfying connection to them other than "they're the same person." There are undoubtedly a lot of similarities between them, though there are holes in this theory that kinda make it fall apart.
*Spoilers for the Danganronpa series, especially Danganronpa Kirigiri, go read that
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now let's start by going over the evidence for this theory.
Both are motivated by boredom and wanting to entertain themselves
Both have a similar personality
Licorne is androgynous, and while most people refer to him as a boy (hence why I'm using male pronouns), his sex is unknown
The word "despair" is written near a lot of crime scenes in Danganronpa Kirigiri (though it's unknown if Licorne is the one writing it)
Both have a similar eye color, perhaps meaning both are wearing the same contacts
Both are extremely analytical, smart, and capable, which ultimately leads to their boredom
Them being the same would give added context to Junko erasing all of Kyoko's memories
Now on paper, it sounds like a pretty solid theory. They have a lot of similarities after all. Unfortunately, there are some holes in this theory.
If the writers intended for Licorne to be Junko, then why didn't they reveal that? Danganronpa is a series that usually tries to pay off the mysteries it sets up, so why would they leave this seemingly important one just unanswered?
We already know Licorne's identity. Licorne is a child named Rei Mikagami who was sent to an orphanage after his parents died. This immediately contradicts Junko's backstory, who was homeless for a lot of her childhood. Later on, during the events of Kirigiri, he lives with Gekka Ryuzoji. Also since we know his real name is Rei Mikagami, and assuming he is the same person as Junko, then how come Yasuke never calls Junko that? Yasuke and Junko were childhood best friends, he would have known Junko's hypothetical true identity because he knew her as a child. But he never calls Junko Rei because Junko's true identity is simply just Junko. The flashback in Danganronpa Zero tells us one thing, Junko was always the way she is. She never "became" Junko, she just was. Basically, Rei and Junko lived completely separate lives and it's impossible that Kirigiri takes place in between that flashback and Junko joining the fashion industry.
As for giving added context to Junko erasing all of Kyoko's memories, it really doesn't. Trigger Happy Havoc makes it pretty clear that the reason Junko erased all of Kyoko's memories is because Kyoko is a skilled detective with years of experience, and thus would be a threat to the killing game. Kyoko wouldn't have even been able to recognize her as Rei because they both look hardly alike.
So yeah, while it's a neat theory, I think it's pretty safe to say it wasn't intended. But if they're not the same person, then how do you explain why they're so similar?
I believe that Licorne and Junko are supposed to be parallels. They lived similar lives, have similar talents, a similar mindset, etc. But where Junko used her abilities for evil, Licorne used his for good. When Licorne eventually grows tired, we see that he's sad and doesn't know what to do, but goes off into the unknown to find something. I believe Licorne is supposed to represent a Junko where they didn't turn to despair. Thematic parallels basically. And I think that explanation works a lot better than them just being the same person. Those are my thoughts at least.

I'm like 2/5 (?) through drv3 and Miu remains my favorite in it. How did we even get here
My thing with Miu is that I saw the demo first (where she makes notably fewer suggestive comments compared to in the finished game) so I kind of went into it with a different impression of her bc of that. One would assume that the sunk cost fallacy would wear off eventually but to this day none of the other v3 characters have rlly grabbed me at all? Just Miu
(to be clear I loved the Kaede twist but that was more me being enthralled with her plot role vs her as a character)
Idk. Ofc Miu's badly written but I still feel like what interesting characterization she does have ppl ignore? Like I get really annoyed to see her lumped in with characters like Teruteru (or Kamishiro but I haven't seen that comparison made as lots of dr fans tragically haven't read dr0 yet. Though tbf Kamishiro's presence is definitely the the low point of that book). Miu's not a pervert character guys! Sure she makes tons of dirty jokes but the punchlines basically never make her sound horny & always just amount to "haha sex funny" immaturity typical for Danganronpa
Given that + her constant insulting of her classmates Miu very much reads like someone with issues socializing but who genuinely craves attention from others. To me she feels like someone who knows that people who have close bonds tease each other sometimes (especially in terms of jokey insults and uncalled for sexual jokes) and her thought process is "Oh that's how people treat their close friends, so if I treat people like that they'll want to be friends with me! Foolproof!" No beloved you've got it the wrong way around :/
I feel like part of why I interpret her this way is because of how she responds to criticism. Whenever anyone talks back about her insults/sexual comments/etc or lets her know she's going too far, she immediately seems really upset to hear it and apologizes/says she didn't mean it in a serious way. I suppose I see how this could be read as insincere or manipulative, but to me it seems like making others unhappy with her was genuinely the opposite of what she wanted. None of this is to imply that how she interacts with her peers is good- she definitely has more to learn about boundaries- it just really feels to me like she's speaking in good faith.
Anyway not to overthink an underwritten character but long story short she reads as neurodivergent to me

((Mod, since you value respecting different opinions and everything, something's recently happened: the Youtuber Kubz Scouts said he didn't like a character and was happy they died, so fans of that character are now screaming insults at him and demanding that he be "canceled". Because if there's one thing that drives Danganronpa fans into a screaming at the top of their lungs frenzy, it's other people daring to have a different, and perhaps unpopular, opinion about fictional characters.))
//Did you want my opinion on this? Because I can’t really give you one, since I haven’t watched his DR playthroughs and I’m not at all interested in internet drama.
//As for that kind behavior, if you do want my opinion on that, I’ll do my best to provide. I’ll put it under here for anyone who’s not interested.
Let’s not pretend this is exclusive to Danganronpa fans or that this is a new development. I remember the days when everyone was playing Undertale and anyone who didn’t go for the Pacifist Run and didn’t do everything perfectly was subject to a lot of discontent. Hell, I remember when Superwholock was a thing and people genuinely and unironically used threats like “You messed with the wrong fandom.”
Someone disliking a game or a character in a game is not a personal attack on you because you like them. We cannot assume that just because someone likes or dislikes something, they are by extension directing their feelings toward people who do not share their feelings on the matter. I examine media on its own merits and never try to list the fandom as a reason why I dislike something. Media and fandom are exclusive things and we can talk about the problems and merits of one, the other, or both.
This is the biggest one: Cancelling is not a real thing, at least not the way many of us think it is. There are people who’ve been “cancelled” and yet still have fans, still talk about things the same way, and still have a voice in public despite doing shitty things or just things deemed “unacceptable” by some group of people. Cancelling is more often than not just momentary outrage followed by mass attempts at character assassination, and it’s often filled with baseless accusations and quotes pulled out of context rather than real evidence for bad behavior. And in most cases, it will fade away. While I absolutely do think that people should be held accountable after saying and doing horrible things, there are people who’ve been “cancelled” for honest mistakes or behaviors they themselves did not realize were bad, or even for very minor things like people not liking the way they draw or for not liking a popular character. And this kind of thing really just takes the form of sending hate mail and demanding that they disappear or die. The kind of behavior people are supposed to discourage in any circumstance. The thing I dislike the most about this behavior is not just that it’s just reskinned cyberbullying, but that it actually makes the problems worse. When you harass and insult people for not holding your opinion, that is not going to endear them or anyone to your side. In fact, it’s probably going to make them stick to their opinions even harder. And when that happens, it makes it so easy for shitty people to co-opt that as a sign of how irrational and cruel your side is. It also hurts that it feels like most people who engage in this stuff think they’re doing the world a favor, when all they’re doing is harassing someone whose reputation they don’t have the power to destroy. I think most people do this either because they’re genuinely ignorant of their inability to really damage someone’s credibility, that they think it makes them a good person for stopping “unacceptable” behavior, or maybe they’re just in it for the drama, because it’s “fun”. But what really hurts the most is this expectation many of us now have, that we’re one opinion or one stupid post away from getting showered with hate mail, doxxed and maybe even pushed to the brink of suicide, and for things that we may not have even meant. To be crystal clear, I will not excuse genuinely repulsive behavior and you shouldn’t either, but this is not the way to handle it. If you want people to change their opinions or understand where they went wrong, communicate with them and help them understand. You need to engage with them openly and kindly. Compassion is the key. I say this not for the people who’ve been “cancelled”, but for the people who think it’s a good idea: it can be so easy, but you will not get anyone to agree with you just by answering hate with hate, and you will never be able to completely silence anyone in today’s world. You simply won’t. Most importantly, this kind of behavior does not put you on a moral high ground, it makes you no better than the people you claim to be standing against. Sending death threats and hate mail to people is wrong regardless of who’s doing it, and if one person does it, you’d be the bigger person by not responding to them. Most of all though, remember Hanlon’s Razor: never attribute to malice what can equally be attributed to ignorance. Some people make mistakes and post things without realizing what exactly they mean- I’ve done this myself and I had people point out how bad they were, so I simply deleted the posts. People are often much better and more understanding than they’re given credit for and I want people to understand that. And if you try and get them to listen, but they still refuse to see things your way, ignore them. Move on from them and try to find people who will. You can’t simply force opposition out of existence, but you can try to at least get more people to see things your way through kind words, sharing of thoughts and understanding alternative viewpoints. I would never ask anyone following me to try and “cancel” people who don’t like my writing. I want to encourage kind communication and open discussion, because that’s how we learn and how we improve. What I do ask is that you be good to others and to yourselves, ignore the drama, and talk openly and kindly with other people. Compassion and understanding is how things truly improve.
