Tossing her hair up into a bun, Ariel did her best to quickly make her way over to the closest restaurant from the lab that she interned at so she could both grab some lunch, and spend some time with Aeneas if he was on his shift/lunch. Ever since she had first visited that place, she had found herself enjoying their conversations, and hadn't hesitated to ask the hostess if Aeneas was on his lunch yet as she followed her to her table and sat down, glancing around the room until she spotted him and waved him over with a warm smile. "Long time, no see, stranger." She jokes and tilts her head to the side in wonder. "You off for lunch yet, or still working?"

Ok I’m probably not the best person to say this, but I’ve been seeing a lot of (as of right now) accurate insults on how the CGI approach for the Live Action Little Mermaid movie, but please be mindful that you don’t take things too far, and *especially* don’t start going after Halle Bailey (Ariel’s actress) and to a lesser extent, Ariel the character.

Antiblackness is still an issue in a lot of fandom spaces, and it doesn’t just come out as using nasty slurs or stereotypes. It manifests as drawing Black characters lighter and/or with more white features, it comes out as removing Black partners from ships, and it starts out as plausibly deniable insults that get the door open to microaggressions and outright nasty comments.

I’m not saying that all discussion of the movie should be stalled, or even if it turns out to be an artistic failure, that it doesn’t merit discussion. I’m saying that you shouldn’t extend your vitriol to the characters and actors.

If you really feel the need to insult her, it might be worth a little introspection. Ask yourself, “Do I resent that they changed Ariel, or that they changed Ariel in this way?”. You’re not irredeemable if your personal answer isn’t kind. Just be more careful, try and observe how that sort of world view affects your behavior to others, and then course correct.

A lot of little kids would love to see another Black Princess. A lot of little kids would love to have a Black mermaid as a main character. Hell, a lot of adults would love those too. Black fantasy characters have long been excluded, transformed, killed, merely in the background, relegated to stereotypes, villainized and have hardly ever in the spotlight, especially in major productions.

Don’t make it harder for kids (and adults!) to see themselves on screen. Don’t ruin their wonder. So don’t make unkind comments. Keep it to yourself. Frankly, Halle looks beautiful, and I can’t wait to see the sparkles in her fans’ eyes as she swims across the screen.

Had a whole lot of character thoughts last night so I think I'm gonna dump them all into one quick post:

Now that I've changed things so Marcus has a nice little polycule I think some pretty bad shit went down to get him to remove himself from the planet. I have a sense of what that might be but I'm left asking myself why his mom is just actually the worst. Unless I can think of a new angle I don't wanna do "royalty generational trauma" again and it's also not quite "absolute power corrupts absolutely" but there could still be some corruption with non-absolute power. The question is what does she really want and why

Marcus likes his Rade friends for themselves but it is hard to overstate how much Horatio reminds him of Gren and how this has been a catalyst in the development of their relationship. Not everyone reminds him of someone but Celia also gives him Yera vibes

Avis one million percent thinks that Antony is wrong and she will be completely fine being alone on the ocean 95% of the time. She did it before but now she's not gonna be stewing about Sorian the whole time so it will be great. But she truly does not realize the extent to which the people she thinks are alone (Sorian, who refuses to be with anyone but her) are not alone at all (gee, Sorian, how come your bad choices let you have TWO families?). And I think after 6-12 months of Freedom TM she finds herself moving back into other people's orbits, including Sorian's. I think I can get them back together at this point. There's just no way to do it in AOM because she's still getting the "I squandered 15 years not verbally abusing my husband" out of her system.

She also doesn't believe that Sorian is completely fine with being single actually. In fact she frequently doesn't believe anything anyone tells her but just in different ways

The plot of Lexie's story is her having a bad time with her job or whatever, not having fun ever, and then Marigold shows up and her life is only fun. The whole time Lexie keeps joking that Marigold is bad for her. Wylie says she is but Wylie projects his anxieties. Derik says she is but Derik is a killjoy. Snap says she might be which is about as certain as he ever is but he doesn't even know her. But finally, maybe before they get into stuff that is very bad, she has to admit that yeah, Marigold IS bad for her and they should go their separate ways. But that won't stop her from saving Marigold later when she gets in some kind of trouble

Ariel had learned much about human culture, and despite its complexities, her conversations with Eric left her with no doubt about his love for her.

Their situation--a husband, a wife, and a lover, was as unique among humans as it was commonplace among merfolk. She had been welcomed in spite of human culture. Ariel had grown to accept that, even if her human family didn't match the effortless ideal of a mer one. The hierarchy of wife and lover meant nothing to her. She could set herself apart from the label's relevance in human custom.

At least she could until the moment Elsa had shared with Ariel the news of her pregnancy. After all, wife and lover could hold the same place in one heart but not in one human covenant.

Ariel had been thrilled--of course she had! Merfolk celebrated families and she'd known so many children raised by more than their father and mother. But somewhere in the back of her mind she couldn't hide the thought that she would have children, too, as would have been completely normal under the sea. But on land, the thought was scandalous at best, life-altering at worst.

Out of wedlock was the term. Wedlock, as if childbirth could violate the terms of an imprisonment.

As much as the turbulent dread pooled in her, Ariel owed her family honesty about her conflict and confusion. She owed it to the human who might have the best chance at understanding, who was carrying this precious child now.

"Elsa," Ariel peeked in the chamber door, speaking with more quiet hesitation than she ever had. "Is now a good time to talk?"

While there were a few places that Ariel needed to go check up on after that month long journey outside of Ivy Cove, it was the diner that she often saw Aeneas in, that became her first stop as she smiled at one of the waitresses before scanning the room until her eyes laid upon him and felt her stomach flutter. She pushed away the feeling as nerves as she walked over to the counter and waved him over. "Hi, I'm bugging you again, I know, I'm sorry, I'm not sure who all went to that weird world but if you went to the same one, I never saw you, and believe me, I looked. Then again, now that has me wondering if there were other worlds and how many there could have been but okay, no, back to the topic at hand, I just wanted to ask if you were okay." She admits, having covered her face with her hands midway through her rambling.

Pressing her brows together in confusion, the bluenette looked to where Ariel stood. ❝ Do you mean Auradon or The Isle? Because if you mean the latter? I can unfortunately tell you without a shadow of a doubt that The Isle is as terrible as the books, and the people there say. ❞ She was speaking from experience, of course. But it seemed the girl may not have known much about Auradon. Or the Isle for that matter.
