what's the flight rising art direction post?? I used to play that game
for everyone who doesn't know flight rising is a virtual pet site ala neopets, but with dragons. On its forums I made a thread pointing out that the dragon designs were becoming relatively more "same face" over time, with similar face shapes and often with a similar "noodly" anatomy my point being that they were both losing some of the charm of a lot of the animals they were based on (with bug, bird, and eel inspired dragons all looking somewhat similar and mammalian), and even more pertinently, not allowing for a wide variety of body types for user characters in the game - with most of the gameplay being a dressup/character creator, you see why having very few buff, chubby, stocky, etc character designs is a pretty big downside. These are the dragons released in the first half of the website's history, with the shapes outlined:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(these pairs are the same species but have somewhat different body shapes, so they were both outlined) And these are the dragons released recently. The stockier guy on the bottom left is the very oldest of these:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also pointed out several of these designs have very similar faces, relative to the facial variety you could have with dragon designs (other two recent guys are outlined above):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In comparison, here's some of the head shapes from earlier dragon designs:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and yeah I think you can see what I mean about the shape language getting a bit more homogeneous. I expressed that I felt like the art team may have observed the popularity of the thinner, doglike dragons in comparison to the chubby reptilian ones and decided to err towards the former.
I also drew some dragons to better get across my point about shape language when people suggested I was failing to account for the fact that the "sameface" dragons weren't entirely identical:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(obviously I'm exaggerating shapes for clarity of point; clarifying here as some people believed I was knocking the art style and wanted it to be more cartoonish...) I also pointed out that you could easily draw very identifiable fanart of two breeds which people were saying looked different:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(someone told me these didn't read as fanart of either dragon. you be the judge, I guess) I did get a lot of very nice comments, both in agreement and disagreement, but also some comments that I was being disingenuous, arrogant, or (much more dishearteningly) suggesting that fat designs are simply too unappealing and that the artists can't waste their time on it because the website is a business.
yesterday they released a sneak peak at their newest dragons, which people believe are cetacean inspired. I tuned in as the initial preview (which only featured an arm) made it look pretty stocky:
Tumblr media
but, shocker:
Tumblr media
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

HOW THE HECK DID THIS HAPPEN AND WHY ARE YOU ALL HERE
200+ followers.
We are over 200 followers strong already folks.
What do I even say?! Well I gotta say something, because it's been over a month since I hit this milestone, and I finally got all other ideas finished.
SO! Let's start with saying that I am incredibly and forever grateful and lucky that this has happened to me and that I get to do this online and that so many people enjoy my work. I've always been an outsider looking in, always the spectator, and never the performer. For so long, I have dreamed of finally being the person on the other side of the screen, making countless people smile and maybe even brighten up their day just a little bit. It feels like I've only just started making content on Tumblr SINCE LAST AUGUST, and I'm already having to write grandiose thank-you letters!
On a more serious note, I had been going through a rough time for the past few months, just a little after I started Tumblr. I had just transferred to a new school, and have had to leave all my friends behind for a second time. The transition period was hard, and I had never felt so lonely in a long while, but coming back online to see you interacting with my blog always brightened up my day. I've come to learn and accept that sometimes, online communities can be just as good as in-person communities, though it did take some getting used to!
Speaking of grandiose thank-you letters, let's get on to acknowledging some VIPs!
First, thank you everyone that has decided to hit the follow button, and for giving me a chance! It really feels validating, and motivated to continue working on and posting my story!
Also, I would like to thank God for gifting me with artistic talent and the drive to hone it at the tender age of five. He's given me so many opportunities to practice my craft, and He continues to give me more chances to use my gift for the happiness of others, and for myself. Without Him, I wouldn't be the person I am today.
@novajuniper! You know who you are to me. So I'm just here to remind everyone what you did. YOU ARE MY BEST FRIEND IRL AND YOU ENCOURAGED ME TO START TUMBLR IN THE FIRST PLACE! You were also one of my first and only fans of my art for a very very long time. Everyone, let's give it up for the OG!!
@oppsiedoo! YOU. You were one of my first fans that gave me FANART! The first Godbox AU fanart came from you, and the first Grinnames fanart came from you! And then you kept giving me more! I'm honestly sometimes a little concerned with the amount of fanart you do for me and my work. Surely you have other creators you look up to?! But thanks for giving me that much support since the beginning when I was small! I felt so validated and seen!
@bow-and-aro-child and @smgx-pez! I always remember you because you were some of the first people to notice Godbox AU! Though we don't interact much, I very much appreciate that you stuck around! You two often appear as my top-fans on my Activities page!
Also @smgx-pez you were also one of my first reblogs. It was the one where you compared Rewrite Sonic to Godbox SMG4, and my stomach kinda dropped in a nervous but excited way! That thread where you found out I actually was inspired by Rewrite is something I will never forget because that's how I discovered that Tumblr was chill like that! Thanks for representing Tumblr!
@hexsie! You were also one of my first reblogs! I was so young and inexperienced on this platform and some stranger (you) sends me some OOC drawing of your OC hugging my boys... I have to admit I was very flattered but so stunned that I didn't know how to respond. Well, now here's the response! I now think that this interaction was hilarious! Thank you for being my introduction into the SMG4 community! Looking forward to that Hexsie lore!
(It's always been the Hug Saga, hasn't it...? From the very beginning...)
@smg6-the-memer! My first asker! You probably submitted the most asks to my ask box as well! That's how I remember you! I had actually not intended to start asks at the time, but the askbox was open by default, so I just went along with it because I HAD ALWAYS WANTED AN ASKBLOG. So thank you for being the push!
@supern0vashii! The infamous Starter of the Hug Saga! Also currently the Ender of the Hug Saga! (for now) We've come full circle! Honestly, Hug Saga was fun, and it's all thanks to you reaching out to me! You also started the Godboxified OC trend with SMG6... you really be out there trailblazing! I've always enjoyed redesigning my OCs to fit AUs... so to have people doing the same for MY AU?! IT FEELS SO AMAZING! Thank you!
@bear-boi-5! My first mutual that isn't @novajuniper! (she doesn't count because I met her IRL before tumblr) When you followed me back you have no idea how shocked and excited I was. I'm not really interested in the fandoms you draw for now, I mostly followed you for your amazing SMG4 au art (Monster Containment AU is my favorite! It's what got me to follow you!) but I'm sticking around because of the sentiment and I also like your vibes!
@michaelscorneroftheinternet! Holy hell. You are one of the creators that I really look up to! Your art-style is just so yummy! So I kind of, may have, freaked out when you joined the Godboxified OC trend AND followed me back! ON TOP OF THAT, YOU SAID I'M ONE OF YOUR FAVORITE CREATORS TOO?! I nearly died from all the happiness rushing up to my head! Not to mention, I really love your energy whenever you reblog stuff! It's rather infectious! Keep up the good work!
@libbytwq! I also look up to you! We may not have interacted much, but I am honored that you follow me back! I really enjoy watching SMGL:e's silly little adventures and interactions with other OCs! So much so that I was inspired by you to later publish some lore about my own OC Grinnames herself! I'm looking forward to some more delicious lore-drops in the future!
@purpdrawsthings! You are probably one of the the NICEST most BUBBLY people I have met on this platform! I just like watching you be nice to people and the fanart you make of other creators' AUs! Not to mention your own AUs are mighty interesting... I want to be as nice as you when I interact with other blogs! Also MY SONA BECAME AN ANIMATION IN YOUR CHRISTMAS VIDEO, SHE'S GOING PLACES THANKS TO YOU!
@bstroobery! specifically @bluestrawberrybunny, Apprenticeship AU is actually one of the first SMG4 fanfics I decided to sit down, lock in, and read through. And over time, your OCs SMG5 and SMG6 really grew on me! I also liked that you were open to AU interactions in your askbox, and crossovers have always been my sort of thing, so I decided that your askbox would be the first I would interact with! Thank you for being so chill with me!
@clowntrickery08! My latest mutual! Dude I really like your artstyle, and its super easy to tell that its you! The way you draw characters is really charming! So I can say for certain that I WAS SO EXCITED WHEN YOU DREW MY BOYS IN YOUR STYLE. Also I really like your sona's design! Also, your concept for SMGPuzzles and SMGWren is SO COOL that I am gonna play around with it sometimes!
@itz-miss-kamilyvision! My god, your OC has a whole-ahh saga in Godbox AU. You having your OC have so many interactions with my boys was so much fun to watch! Thank you doing all that, I always love making characters interact and you gave me just that over and over again! I also like seeing your OCs lore, and the other interactions you have with other creators!
@alan-william! The one who turned ME into a gacha character AND animated me! But what I appreciated the most is how you made my sona interact with yours and also Micheal's. That is the closest thing to real human interaction to me on this platform, and something that I've enjoyed the most here is finding community, and I really feel connected with you!
@birdy-four! We haven't interacted that much, but to this day, that giant reblog of Godbox AU Chapter 0 with you word-vomiting everywhere about my fanfic is my favorite reblog of all time! I sometimes go back and read it again because while most people see my art, they don't really get to see my writing, and I've never gotten feedback like this before!
@smg33exe! And last but not least, the one that put my boy Godbox!SMG4 in a gacha video! BECAUSE OF YOU I MADE IT ONTO YOUTUBE! Thank you for throwing my creation out there on the web, and for creating a video that I sometimes come back to just to marvel at what I've become!
As for the rest of you... I have planned something that everyone can partake in! Stay tuned, I just need to finish preparing it...

WHAT'S UP!
Welcome to my post where I praise the fanon original league version of Jayvik!!!
I'm gonna be real, I will miss the Og machine herald Viktor. I never played league, and I'm not going to, but before season 2 came out I read his lore and he's actually a pretty fun character.
Then after season two act 1 came out, I dove into the world of fanfiction cause I started shipping Jayvik and found kind a few fics about the league of legend versions of the characters. And here is what I will say.
If we go with fanon alone, I actually prefer the league versions.
League Viktor and League Jayce are actual enemies for most of the time. They used to be colleagues, then Viktor was getting into brainwashing whilst Jayce was a dick and got him kicked out of the academy. He also didn't speak up when some other scientist took credit of Viktors invention. Oh and there were misunderstandings about some crystal...
Long story short, they don't like each other. But in the fics they often times either clear the misunderstandings and make up or yearn for each other whilst on opposite sites. Or they fight each other which leads to make out sessions because why not.
The characters are also generally more fun to read about.
Jayce is a huge dick, that is literally his most defining personality trade. He is a cocky bastard and people like him until they get to know him because he's just such an asshole.
And Viktor is just... Really fucking silly. He wants to get rid of his emotions and says that he already did get rid off them, but then Jayce pisses him off and you can tell no way?? Where did you get rid off your emotions? You've been whining non stop. There's also still love, kindness and empathy within Viktor, but he somehow convinces himself that he is emotionless. It gets especially good when that's played for comedy, which it oftentimes is!
Also, the nicknames! They still call each other Jayce and Viktor but Viktor also calls Jayce "Defender" short for "Defender of tomorrow" which is jayces title, and Jayce calls him either V or Machine Herald, depending on the mood.
Arcane season 2 was too rushed and packed with so many seperate story lines that we didn't have enough time for the characters. We needed at least one more season.
But the fanon for the league version, as someone who never played it, gives me this huge time frame of them being enemies but they used to be colleagues or friends (or more than friends depending on the writer), and then a huge time frame of them being enemies.
Og machine herald League Viktor though??? PEAK, WHAT A FUNNY CRINGEFAIL LOSER!
Now more to Arcane...
I think as much as I love Jayvik there, it's all just too sad, especially if you don't necessarily want to read act 1 fanfictions or AUs.
Also Viktor is super hard to characterize because his personally changes with almost every act. That's why I don't buy it when people complain about the way he is characterized because Ik all yall want is sassy S1 Act 1 Viktor, but I prefer the less confident and workaholic Act 2 Viktor. We are not the same.
The Fanon of League is just, somehow, more consistent in a way, because it has existed just much longer and people probably get inspired by the same shippers for how to write their dynamic.
Arcane fics though depend on how the individual interprets the characters, and with characters whose arcs were rushed sm it's just impossible.
So Og machine herald Viktor, you will be missed. I hope people don't stop writing for them and drawing fanart!!

when i was a teenager i used to spend too much time on social media. since i've always been into anime and otaku things, a lot of the japanese and south korean artists i looked up to were kind of distant; they didn't talk about their lives nor followed people back often. to my eyes, this was peak cool. these people drew so good that they didn't need to adapt to algorithms or foreign languages to succeed! i used to think that if i had so much power i wouldn't be able to resist the urge to use it to change the world.
at the same time, i also hated it. i hated when artists were so secretive about their process, so ungrateful towards the people who always supported them. i especially hated pick me artists who were constantly complaining about how hard it was to draw profiles and the other eye and who would mostly draw trends and memes and didn't understand the depth of the pieces of media they liked.
now i understand that my vision back then was blurred by a mix of admiration, bitterness and of course the language barrier. artists on social media are just random people. very few get to the point where someone else manages their account, or they start working for a studio, and even then it's still someone behind the screen.
i still have my takes about how certain types of online artists behave, but lately i've been trying to avoid those bad feelings and be more grateful for the fact that people are still creating, despite everything that's going on in the world. i'd rather be forced to follow a thousand amateur and/or attention-seeking artists than a shitty genAI account.
it's been about 8 years since i started posting my fanart online and i've met so many artists from completely different backgrounds. i've seen my friends grow and make art i would have never imagined they could make. i'm mutuals with people i've admired for almost a decade and i'm regularly told that my art inspires others. some manga authors and videogame developers have seen my art of their characters. it's been like this for years and i'm still not used to it. it's so nicel!! but it's still unbelievable.
i realized some time ago that i am now that type of unreachable artist to a lot of people. i feel guilty about it, but i don't know what to be sorry for. i guess that it was never about trying to be mysterious or forcing myself to hold back my opinions, it's just that the world is too big for one person to be on the spotlight. now that i have a job and i'm busy, i'm very comfortable in a spotlight i can turn off whenever i want.
(side note i still draw a lot but it's mostly my ocs and i'm embarrassed to post them)
if there's something i know for certain is that people will always want to see cool art. my family always asks for my drawings even if they're always girls making out and not the kind of paintings they wish i made. my friends who aren't artists still struggle to put into words why they like what i do, even if they don't know the characters; but the fact that they keep trying to communicate it makes me happy, because it shows that they really want me to continue doing this.
i don't need to hope that humanity keeps making art because i already know it will happen. but i wish people who are already on this path don't feel discouraged about the future, even with the rise of generative AI and fascism and the decline of social media platforms. the world is much more beautiful with everyone's creations in it and there's always room for more, we will always yearn for more.
i have no plans to stop making art unless i go blind, in which case i would probably learn to make music. i want to get better, i will get better, but i'm just a random person who happens to be alive at a time when random people post their art online. no matter where you are in your artistic journey, if you decide to keep moving forward, i'll meet you here in the spotlight.

A quick message to Goodtimeswithscar fanartists!
If you tend to draw/portray Scar in fanart with zero mobility/disability aides (wheelchair, cane, cannula, etc), or with them but in a way that pretty much disregards their existence (keeping the cane on his back at all times, making the cane purely aesthetic and not functional, treating the wheelchair like it's as light as a feather and can go anywhere, drawing cannulas but no oxygen tank, etc), I just want you to take a second and ask yourself why you portray it that way.
Scar has stated that he is ok being drawn with or without being visibly disabled, but he sees the wheelchair as a big part of himself ([LINK]). I'm not here to force anybody to do anything. But I just want you to seriously consider why you minimize or completely erase his disability. Is it just because he's a minecrafter and therefore he's not disabled in-game (debatable because when making fanart, the medium and therefore many universal constants are 100% malleable, not to mention how his disability does indeed affect his content such as when he is forced to take breaks, falls out of his chair, etc)? Or could it be that you are uncomfortable with the fact that he's disabled, or at least uncomfortable portraying/acknowledging that in your art? Could it be that you're afraid to get it wrong, don't know how, or simply don't feel like it? Please don't take this as an attack, but a small ask to consider the reasoning behind this design choice.
I do not use mobility aides as my physical disabilities would not be benefitted from them, but I am quite active in the online disabled community, and please believe me when I tell you that physical disabilities are erased enough. They are ignored and minimized enough. If you look in the comments of Scar's videos, if you look at the donations that were read during the charity event a couple of months ago, you will see so many people using mobility/disability aides (or not because they can't get them for many reasons, but need them very much) who are so encouraged by Scar doing what he does, by seeing a representation of their experience and community that they very, very rarely see (and even when they do it's in a pitying, infantilizing, or degrading way). When you draw fanart of Scar, please consider this. Please consider why you are erasing or minimizing his disability, and if you find it in your heart, please consider a design change.
There are aesthetically pleasing ways to include mobility aides. Some great ones I have seen are linked below if you want design inspiration. And plus, if nothing else, it will help you become a better artist by diversifying your experience:
[LINK] - An example animatic with a cane. While it is sometimes on his back, it's usually when he's flying (how would he use it? It makes sense for it to be put away). While he's walking it is being used properly. We don't see him walking around much since it's an animatic, but if I animated it more thoroughly, I would show that he had a clear limp, fatigue, or other difficulty walking, to avoid the "cane solely for aesthetic" interpretation.
[LINK] - An example animatic with a wheelchair, which is coincidentally the same scene. There was a fantastic one where his wheelchair transforms into a flying machine but I searched for 30 minutes and can't find it, so if someone knows the one please link it!
[LINK] [LINK] [LINK] [LINK] [LINK] - Great example drawings with wheelchairs.
[LINK] [LINK] - Drawings with canes.
P.S. all of this goes for writing and other non-visual forms of fanart too!! I see him written disabled even less often than I see him drawn disabled.
Thank you for reading all of this. I hope it helps somebody.

Mysterion in Chaos Plan
Upon request I'm gonna translate my elaborations on this post on Mysterion's design in my fic :> I wish I could actually present you guys with a drawn design but i haven't had time to draw lately plus all my attempts to draw him until now haven't been satisfactory to me, but I still wanna rant about my choices.
[Anyways, first things first, IF anyone ever is tempted to draw any fanart (giggles and kicks feet uncontrollably) I want y'all to know there's no pressure to stay true to these ideas. The descriptions & details for Mysterion's getup in my fic are purely practical, because design is a visual element that isn't considered in questions of practicality and realism. If you have any ideas you like better for his design, or if you feel like any of this is hindering your creative freedom, by all means throw this in the trash and do what you want instead. I love seeing people's individual creative interpretations and I don't wanna hinder anyone's creativity.]
Anyways, with that out of the way, let's get to it.
Tumblr media
(from chapter 2 of Chaos Plan)
I'm a SUCKER for Miles Morales' silhouette as Spiderman in the first movie, and because both Mysterion and Spiderman are both vigilante/heroes with working class roots I love to find similarities between the two of them. So I'll be referring to Miles a few times in this post >:)
I like the idea of Kenny using really old maybe counterfeit brand basketball shorts that he used to wear to sleep or something. I'm not yet settled on the specific patterns/lines that I want them to be adorned with, so just for reference you can imagine something like this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As for colors; I like the idea that these shorts might be the brightest part of his outfit as a reference to Kenny's dumbass "underwear over pants" design in canon.
Tumblr media
His canon design is also the main reason I don't wanna give him just normal long pants, and instead stick with the Miles-Morales-type shorts-over-thermal leggins idea.
I like to think that Kenny got thermal ski underwear (pants and undershirt) from Kyle or Stan at some point for when they went camping (bc ain't no way Kenny would go skiing), and he just forgot to return it aka they forgot to ask for it back, so that's what he uses underneath his hoodie & shorts to keep warm.
Tumblr media
For colors, I like the idea that they're a dark color to contrast the light-colored shorts but have lines similar to these in a neon green color. Just to add a fun something
And well, then there's his hoodie. Just a regular ol' hoodie, a dark one of course to blend in better into the night (dramatic ass bitch), dark purple like Mysterion's cape in canon except he has no cape because. well. realistically, impractical. But yeah, I imagine it to look a little makeshift, which is why I have Kenny spray-paint the question mark in the front (and an unmentioned "M" on the back of his hoodie) to give it that tacky look. Again, like Miles does his Spiderman costume in the first movie.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(screenshot from chapter 6 of Chaos Plan)
As for his pouch/fanny pack; I was very inspired by the type of clothes people who do parkour wear, and that shit has to be very light for maximum mobility. A utility belt wouldn't be the best choice for hip mobility, so a fanny pack he can slap across his chest and back would be the way to go. It just needs to be big enough to store some fireworks, a gun (the one he stole from Harris lmao), cigarettes and other miscellaneous things like a lighter, lock picks, his small knife, maybe a chapstick idk he definitely should
Something like this but, again, creative freedom is welcome.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And well, then there's Kenny's gloves (crucial!! bc it's cold as balls plus he CANNOT LEAVE FINGERPRINTS ANYWHERE!!), his mask, and a bandana to hold back his hair. Here's a really old shitty sketch I did once gashagdha (yes he has long hair that he has to tie together. I haven't mentioned this in the fic because i'm an idiot)
Tumblr media
And well, for warmth & anonymity reasons I often describe him wearing a thermal tube scarf, kinda something like what I often see in Princess Kenny fanart to cover his mouth. But I haven't yet found a way to make this look cool in combination with the mask so maybe this will only stay in written word...
As for his shoes, I'm not really attached to any specific type but I do find it significant that they look like they're being held together by hopes and prayers. Tongue, collar and lining sticking out upward as the shoelaces wrap tight around the ankle to ensure it doesn't slip. Maybe duck-taped together at the tip or something. Listen, it's hard to buy new shoes when you don't want any purchases to get traced back to your identity, okay. He's forced to raw-dog this shit and we respect that.
Anyways that's it!! someday i'm going to edit this monster fic and all these details will be much clearer from the text alone, but for now we're running on the first version of the story so bear with me. I might do a similar post for Chaos too if I don't manage to draw him first :)

Am I (23) the asshole for using someone else their art as the base for mine? 🖌️🎨 (so I can find this easier)
So there is an artist I follow that I often use art as a reference from. I download pieces I like and replicate the style and pose for my own characters mostly but sometimes also for fanart of characters I like so it's not the same. I never saw an issue with this but I was talking to my friends about this and they asked if I asked this artist permission to basically copy her work or at least credit her. I told them that I didn't since it's not like I'm tracing her art and I draw different characters. And I don't really want to credit her because people can be pretty nasty about people referencing other works on here (it's not tracing and a valid way of learning how art works but people don't seem to get that often) which is also why I avoid reblogging the art I reference so people don't notice and get aggressive about it. I have anxiety so I'd rather avoid stressful situations. But now since my friends got upset with me telling me that they'd be pretty hurt if someone used their work like that I'm kind of doubting myself now. One of my friends especially was very mad since they looked up the artist and saw that a commission they got from me was inspired by one of her works and is threatening to tell her.
What are these acronyms?

i love to see your fanart of gai and lee, they are two of my favorite characters!! the way you draw everybody's hair is especially beautiful, it looks so soft💖
if you don't mind me asking, what made you start to ship baki x gai? i don't think i've ever seen this ship before! (when i saw your fanart, i went from😲 to 😏 lol. they look so good together)
Ah, thank you very much for your kind words! Drawing Guy and Lee's hair is a separate kind of meditation for me! Oh, bakigai was born completely by accident and spontaneously! One of my friends and I, who are already at odds with me at the moment, wrote a story about Gaara and Lee. However, we needed to describe in detail the relationship between Baki and Guy, and then we had a sudden idea - why not make Baki and Guy a couple? It was thanks to this that more and more art began to appear, and I really liked this pairing. I began to be more interested in both of them and began to prescribe headcannons that would perfectly interact with the original story. I like how they are opposite to each other, but they equally adore their students and are ready to do anything for them. I like that they have similar stories (my headcannons will follow). Guy has an unrequited love for Kakashi, from which he is not exactly suffering now, and Baki has an unrequited interest in the Fourth Kazekage. However, none of these lines could be fruitful for a relationship, so they both chose a path where they could put all their love into children.
I'm also curious how two Shinobi from completely different villages can look together and how their chemistry pushes them together, like sand waves hitting water. They probably quarreled with each other very often because of the different way of life in Suna and Konoha! However, over time, they learned to accept each other and other people's culture. On the topic of how Baki and Guy's relationship could have appeared, I have been wanting to make a list of headcannons for a long time, I really hope that this will happen soon

For the ask game. All of it ::3
(cracks knuckles) let's go
When did you start creating art?
I've been drawing consistently since I was five, but I started taking art seriously when I got my first drawing tablet in 2016!
Do you do art in any professional capacity? (Graphic design, commissions, animation, etc.)
Technically, yes! I am… haunted by the commissions I need to finish from when my big burnout hit, but after that, I want to work my way back up to being more consistent and reliable with this stuff.
What are your favorite subjects to draw? (OCs, your fan faves, etc.)
Hm.. my fan faves, and my OCs. I'm always doodling new character designs, though they're mostly women and mostly elves
What's your least favorite part of the body to draw, if any?
mouth.
What piece of art are you still proud of to this day? (Show or describe)
These two drawings will be So influential to the art direction of my game
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Favorite and least favorite angles/perspectives to draw?
My favorite angle is a high angle! A Lot of my art ideas feature this view. My least favorite… not sure
Who are some artists that have inspired you?
Tatsuki Fujimoto, Haruko Ichikawa, James Fenner (!!!), and a whoooole lot of game and general concept artists.
How would you describe your art style?
Scratchy and disorienting? Something repressed shining through? An odd fever dream? Flowy and dramatic?
What's the longest you've ever suffered from artblock?
Ah… Probably a year or more. The phase that I like to call The 2023 Ego Death was one where my art suffered severely. I got out of it thanks to void archives of all people, but I'm still dealing with the consequences of that phase and tying up loose ends (commissions..)
How do you deal with art block?
Rage! and also drawing on paper. Voidie aside, what helped me the most was to draw in my sketchbook that is meant to be seen by nobody other than me, because it meant I could make as many shitty drawings as I wanted. Also keeping the sketchbook open next to me while I played hi3, so I could doodle what inspired me as I played. I should try doing that more in the future
Have you ever drawn a meme with your OCs or canon characters from a fictional media?
Totally. A whole bunch of them. I particularly love that image of those three people in a subway w a pizza, a raven n a wedding dress
Ever participated in a multi-artist collaboration (3 or more) such as a multi-animator project?
Yep! It's from my warrior cats days so that video is private now ^^
What kind of art do you personally not see the appeal of, and why?
Hm… I don't care for the generic manhwa and manga art styles. I know that I'm a bit of a hipster about it, but I just really like when an artist lets their own style shine through, like Ichikawa or Nagabe for example
Do you prefer to make fan content or original content?
I NEED a healthy dose of both to live. My original art to fanart ratio is about 70/30, but those 30% are invaluable to me. I truly do love making fanart and drawing other people's characters
Do you/have you participated in Artfight or art trades in general?
I actually used to do a lot of art trades!! I should start doing those again, now that I think about it
What was something you used to struggle to draw with confidence/ease, but have now mastered?
Hm… I haven't mastered shit, but I've become really really fond of drawing expressions, hands and backgrounds
Your personal favorite works of art (not made by you) are…?
The garden of death :3
Tumblr media
Do you typically use filters on your art?
Yep, for color correcting! I usually apply a filter or two by the end, but aside from that I'll use filters to easily mess around w color palettes on a drawing before I merge the layers
What's your biggest insecurity when it comes to your artwork?
I always worry about how often I use the same color palettes. I'm very comfortable there, sure, but I really don't want to restrict myself when it comes to colors. I love love love colors and I want to be able to use them to their fullest potential!
What motivates/inspires you artistically? (topics, emotions, etc)
Religious things, like halos or wings, stars, and a kind of calm, but unnerving detachment from overwhelming emotions and unspeakable things (for lack of a better word lol). This pinkish ruby red that I always use is the most important color in my art, because it means… hm. Intense emotion? That's the best way I can put it. A lot of anger and pain, really. It's gonna be real relevant for Jinn btw When it comes to motivators… Well, it's both an emotional outlet and a bid for connection. Y'know, The Itch to express your thoughts and feelings in this way, and, with larger scale projects, the desire to make something that can make someone feel seen, and could inspire them. The "Man, I wanna do that" means so damn much to me

Hi! Do you have any advice on how to make friends in the fhr fandom? I adore what you and boci have and long to build something similar. Sadly I can't draw to save my life and I'm not very confident in my writing either since I'm not a native english speaker. I tried to send asks and scream in the tags about steps I like but though everyone is very nice and friendly they don't reciprocate the interest and because of that I feel very discouraged to interact. I worry if I keep it up I'm just annoying them and they may be too polite to say so. I must sound very desperste but I'd really appreciate any advice you have.
Hello there nonny! First of all, it's brave of you to ask this, and I'm proud of you for taking the risk to send it in at all, even anonymously.
Secondly, while it might not be what you want to hear, there's unfortunately no single straight answer to your question. I'm not sure if any of this will end up being useful or helpful. I can only offer what has worked for me in the past and what I hope is reasonable for you to try as well.
I'll put it under a read more because this got fairly long.
There really isn't any 100% way to make people care about your characters. There are only ways to put your character (sidestep, in this case) in front of as many people as possible to see if anyone takes an interest. That's ultimately part of what fanart and fanfiction do: put your sidestep in front of more eyes.
But if those aren't options? Just asking to interact with people can be a way forward.
Boci and I began getting to know one another only after I had followed them for years and did the same thing that you seem to be doing. I had sent in asks, left tags, tried to be unassuming and not annoying. It wasn't until I took the leap and asked if our sidesteps could interact that we actually got to talking one on one and were able to build our relationship.
No one in the FHR fandom except sidestep is psychic, and often the only way to let someone know we want to interact with them, and them to interact with us, is by saying so.
What you've been doing--adding tags and sending asks is a great way to get to know other people and their sidesteps. Encouraging creativity in others and supporting them is a wonderful way of helping them know you as someone warm and friendly.
But those things don't earn attention in return, and ultimately, they shouldn't be expected to. Reciprocity is something that can't be forced and isn't required. You can't make or demand people take an interest in your character.
What I recommend is giving information about your step when you interact. When sending in an ask about someone else's sidestep, consider volunteering some trivia and headcanons about your own: "My sidestep feels x way about y, what about yours?"
This way it's not forcing an interaction, but it could start a conversation and exchange of headcanons with someone who may have been too shy to ask about your own, or unsure if you wanted them to ask in return! Remember, people are often thrilled about the chance to talk about their ideas but might be too nervous and worried about annoying you to ask about yours.
I can't say if you have done this yet or not (the perils of sending your question on anon) but reblog as many prompts lists as you can. Even if you're not a writer, those OC prompts can be a chance for you to ramble about your sidestep and get their name out in the fandom space. The more people see/read about your sidestep, the more they can begin to get comfortable with them, and the more they may see you as someone they can be brave with and send an ask to!
Don't wait for people to ask or send in a prompt, though. Use them as inspiration and answer the questions on your own. Be your own biggest fan and other people will start to take notice.
You can post your headcanons, thoughts about your favorite parts and how you think your sidestep should react to those scenarios. If you want something more visual, consider making mood/theme boards, or posting style boards with examples of their favorite outfits. Make a playlist with songs that fit your sidestep. Write a recipe of what your sidestep might want as a comfort food. Talk about how they would want to decorate their home if they had the chance/time/money.
All of this being said, and all those examples aside, I completely understand how disheartening it is to see what feels like everyone else having a fun time at the party while feeling excluded.
Sometimes the risk of coming across as annoying is terrifying--but it might also be worth it. What comes across as annoying to one person can be seen as passion and sincerity by another.
Keep putting yourself and your sidestep out there. Be patient, be kind to yourself and to the people you hope to make friends with, and remember that while you can't force friendship, you can be the one to take the terrifying step forward and ask.

Your designs for Jon and Martin TMA are so good, they're simultaneously strong from an objective character design point of view (strong silhouette and shapes, information is conveyed well) but also look like ordinary people. Like the way you draw them transfers over to looking like a real person really well and the real person looks, just, normal... it goes with the series' energy. It's hard to have both often but you succeed 👍
This is so nice to hear because character design is really intimidating for me! Usually, when I make fanart for other stuff where i don't have to think about this sort of thing.
I'm trying to balance taking inspiration from other designs and putting my own spin on it. I also look at people irl to find ideas so i don't accidentally copy too much. It helps that the setting is is the modern day - albeit in a place far away from where i live!
I've never been one for really extravagant or intricate stuff so I'm going the low-key realistic route and relying on body language for more expressiveness! Works better with my artstyle.

This just came to mind, but back when I was in a different fandom, I got bombarded with intense questions about "AU ownership." Because I had drawn a lot of fanart for an AU my friend created (yeah, I’ll admit it—on Tumblr, I was probably the one who drew the most fanart for that AU), people often misunderstood and assumed I was the owner of that AU. I told them I wasn’t—probably like two hundred million times—but no one listened. Some even demanded that I transfer the "ownership" of an AU they claimed I created to someone else.
Especially the topic of "ownership." I have a lot to say about that.
To be honest, I didn’t and still don’t understand what "AU ownership" is supposed to mean. People believed I was the original creator of that AU concept, and on Tumblr at least, that might have actually been true. If I recall correctly—and keep in mind, this was almost ten years ago—I posted that artwork without much thought on an anonymous Korean fan community. I probably drew it after being inspired by someone else’s earlier art. Honestly, I’m not sure about any of it. Like I said, it’s been nearly a decade. I don’t even remember if I was the first one to draw something based on that concept, or if it was someone else.
After that art was "discovered," people started contacting me a lot. At first, I thought I answered them kindly. But if 20 people ask you the same question, and they do it rudely? I don’t think I owe them a kind response at that point.
They told me that if I wasn’t going to keep creating fan content, I should give them the AU’s ownership. Even back then—and still now—I didn’t understand what ownership meant. I assumed it was something like copyright. And whatever it is, I had zero intention of handing over something that might be akin to copyright. Honestly, I believe the actual copyright belongs to the original creator—Toby Fox, in this case—of course, copyrights of each fanwork belong to the creator of each fanwork- but you get the point. But even so, whatever "ownership" meant, I wasn’t going to give it away. That said, I had no intention of stopping others from creating. I’ve said it before: as long as no one’s getting hurt(I mean, mentally), I think it’s great when fandoms produce a variety of interpretations and fanworks. Whatever someone else wants to create from that AU—whatever interpretation or idea they come up with—didn’t bother me, and I didn’t think that had anything to do with ownership at all.
Oh, I forgot to mention something earlier. I told many people who asked me about it that if ownership means the first person who had the idea, then maybe I’m not the owner. I mean, I don’t know who the original owner would be, and it’s probably impossible to find them, especially if the original post was in a Korean anonymous community ten years ago. I didn’t really care whether people thought I was the owner or not. Actually, I probably preferred they didn’t. I think the AU grew far bigger than I ever realized, and a lot of people seemed to love it. But even back then, I had only drawn maybe five pieces for that AU. It was just a fun little idea that I thought might make a cool concept sketch.
Slowly, I realized that "ownership" was a different concept from copyright. I never came to fully understand what it actually meant, but I got that much. Even so, it only made things more confusing. I didn’t claim ownership, but people forced it on me—and at the same time demanded that I hand it over to someone else.
I don’t get why "ownership" matters so much when it comes to creating fanworks. You can create your own stories and fanons without being the "owner." I made it clear I wasn’t going to stop anyone.
Like, Jazz Phantom AU in DPhandom, there had been lots of ppl came up with that idea already. But I don't care whether I'm the first one who came up with the AU idea, I just draw my own fanon of it.
And really, even if I just gave in and handed it off because I was annoyed, it wouldn’t have solved anything. I wasn’t part of that fandom anymore. If I had just randomly chosen someone and declared them the owner, I’m sure others would have pushed back. I was exhausted from being dragged into fandom drama by strangers over something I wasn’t even involved in anymore. I think that whole incident happened around two years ago, and I was active in the fandom in 2016. My memory is fuzzy.
You know what’s funny? One day, someone messaged me to say, "Hey, you’re being talked about behind your back on a fandom Discord server." I’ve been using social media for over a decade, but getting badmouthed by complete strangers—especially foreigners I’ve never even interacted with—that was definitely a new experience.
But none of that changed how I felt about AU itself. Not at all. Undertale is still one of my favorite works, and back in 2016, I had so much joy creating fanworks for it. That said, I don’t think I can view the fandom itself as positively as I once did. And even now, whenever I get praise or attention for something, as happy as I might feel, I can’t stop those awful memories from coming back.
Even if I did come up with the original idea for an AU, I don’t want to force my ideas onto others. AUs are just our takes on someone else’s creation, right? I don’t think it’s a big deal if someone builds on top of what I built. For the few AU concepts I’ve suggested (though calling them AUs might be a stretch), if someone else came along and built their own interpretation, I’d be fine with that. I’d respect it. Of course, that doesn’t mean I’ll accept everything—like if someone includes incest, for example. It’s still their creation, and if they want to go that route, I won’t stop them. Just don’t force me to agree with it. Accepting something and acknowledging it are two different things.
I don’t know how to end this. I was looking back at my old blog and just started thinking a lot. I wanted to share some of those thoughts. Maybe someone reading this will be upset, I don’t know.
But I want to be clear—I’m not trying to disregard fan creators. Their ideas are all brilliant, fun, and full of creativity.

(shaking hands, functioning on three iced coffees, not beta read we just die) (LIL BRO TREATING THIS LIKE AO3Anyways yeah i did not read anything i typed here a second time so my wording might Suck Major Kuss)
Hey chat! sorry my holiday depression unfortunately kicked in, i had a ,, relatively decent Eid (cuz i dont celebrate christmas) ...? so i hope everyone had a relatively better holiday than i did… 💦
My friends often tell me i look like my art and i kinda see it. Hooray! Meeting the artist! Except i took matters into my own hands of making my own collage because I Do Not Have Enough Storage Space For Any Other Editing App
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Additional shitpost ❤️ the art I've been most proud of are not actually in here, really! I'm mainly proud of the fanart i made for the few smiling critters AU's aaaall the way back feb-march but. I guess the stuff i liked the most i did this year was probably for the one who wilts? Im trying to think of stuff earlier than that. I noticed i definitely had an improvement in art, and i learned i do have a preference of drawing certain ways now too lmao- the fun of art! I hope to improve more in 2025 :-)
Tumblr media
Herm,, all jokes aside, im glad people like my art...?? I am not a very Secure artist myself (already taking me five minutes to type that out and consider myself as an artist) so im SHOCKED when people Actually like my things. My doodles. The sometimes rare occasion of real art i put out there. Like! Wow! Thats crazy
Id have to say the same for youtube- im currently at 456 subscribers 🥺❤️ that is huge to me,, i wouldnt have expected me posting for the first time in years on youtube would result to me getting this many subscribers? ? .???
Im very, VERY thankful for the people ive met this year through fandom and generally. Unfortunately—for the past few months—Ive hit a really low stump in my mental health that limits me from talking to people without getting super drained, even on social media i kinda struggle with being active again. I am thankful for the people that continue to stick around and know im the way that i am,, one day ill be mentally stronger and everyone is gonna see my growth as soon as i can ,, Actually leave my own home and hopefully start a new. I didnt really consider that until one of my friends shared its experiences with me and i GENUINELY realized i can run away and get better one day,, there is a light at the end of the tunnel,, there IS,, but not now. Not today. Not in a few months. Itll take me years to heal but 2025 and ongoing years as i get more freedom to do so,,
UHHHH UHHH. ASIDE FROM CHEESY RANTING OF HAVING HOPES FOR THE FUTURE, YAPYAPYAP- i got a drawing tablet (again another thing my friend inspired me for- technically two major things in a row it inspired me for- hope in the future and drawing BWAHAHA-) and uhhh. HmMMOOHHH YEAH I REUNITED MY MEOWMEOWS! HOORA🎊🎊🎊🎊
Tumblr media
my 2025 goals are not just improvement in art,, but in hopes of getting a full time job (since my last full time UMM. did NOT work out well! How am i gonna learn to pay my taxes on my own dawg,) and trying to get a place of my own since i missed out on that two years ago (or one? One year ago? I DUNNO..!!!!) , therapy and trying to heal better compared to my terrible stumps of 2022-2024,, i dunno what else but. Maybe working on my social skills at some point 🗿🗿 a far fetched goal is moving out of state completely and also going on testosterone but that is farrrr from now </33
Thank you lot for following and keeping up with my goofiness i gen did not think an animanga nerd with a passion of indie and mascot horror games could reach 510 followers within one year HELPPP thats crazy
On less serious goals though i hope on watching more animes than reading manga in 2025 BWAHAHAGAHSAJD i read manga more and anime is Extremely Rare for me to watch but both jjk and Beastars have all ive been watching as of recent lol- trust i will be such a geek (girl Please that is NAWT something to look forward to) (YES IT IS. HAVE YOU NO WHIMSY?)

Hi! I hope you answer but if you don't it's ok! Question! Are you going to do DHMIS content again or you'll leave that behind? Anyway I love your art and comics!! Keep up the good work!!
Tumblr media
The longer answer is: While being in the DHMIS fandom and making art for it was a fun time for me, the last time I drew anything involving it was... Freshman year of college. I've graduated since then. I've moved onto other interests, and don't intend to return to something that no longer makes me happy.
When I draw fanart, it's because I'm excited about something, and want to express that excitement and appreciation for it through artwork.
Nowadays, most of the energy I have for fanart has been going towards Welcome Home and the D&D characters/sessions that me and my friends play with one another.
Though I'd like to personally thank you for being polite with your question. (The following screenshot is a more recent example, but others have been... A lot more rude about me not drawing DHMIS anymore.)
Tumblr media
(And that's just one of the examples I'm willing to share. Others have used much cruder language.)
People in the past have been very persistent about me wanting to return to making DHMIS content, even though that's... not what I want to draw anymore. It happened often enough that it killed any remaining excitement for the new DHMIS episodes that came out about two years ago.
But, all that aside- thank you for sticking around! I'm glad you enjoy the art I make. Just telling me that you like my stuff inspires me to keep making the things I love, seeing that others are also enjoying what I create.
I intend to keep up with offering and making art commissions, as well as create fanart for the things I enjoy. Though I also hope to be able to create more original stuff as well. (Maybe someday I'll even finally get back to making that webcomic lol, once I finally figure out how to make a solid plot that I'm happy with.)
Anyway, I hope you have a lovely rest of your day, as well as anyone else reading this.
