I let Dad have it tonight, demanding that I go with him to pick Mom up…and, somehow in the process, I told him I was gay. He said “I’ve known 10 years. I knew when you were in high school. I’ve known men in important places who were gay. I love you. At 74, sex with a man, woman, fingers doesn’t matter. So, it’s  (sex) over!”

10/28/1995

Talked with Dad tonight. He went to a bar today and had a couple of drinks over the gay thing (Me telling him yesterday that I am gay). He’s decided it’s OK. “But, don’t tell anyone in Lincoln.” He was amazed to know that I’ve known since age 13. I told him it’s been a nightmare. And, I’m trying to prevent it from happening to other kids.”

In October 1995, I was 40 and my father was 74. Both sides of our family lived in Lincoln Nebraska or near by in the Mid West.  I was born there. My father was aware of the homophobic attitudes  held by many of  our relatives. That’s why he told me not to tell them. 

When I wrote that I was trying to prevent it from happening to other kids, I meant that, when I got the chance,  I encouraged kids and adults to come out of the closest and lead full  lives.

When I told my father it had been a nightmare, I meant that I had gone from 1968, when I was 13, to 1984, when I finally came out as a gay man, play acting straight. It was a numbing, nullifying way to live. That doesn’t mean that I didn’t have fun and friends, but, it was like being a character in a play. It was a role, it was not “me”.

Bestie there is a fucking series. Admittedly the series is not fully or even mostly about Leslie but i do think some of the most satisfying emotional plot points involve her (<- is biased because i love squishing her for angst).

The series is the only gift is a portion of thyself by autumngray and it is one of the most delightfully well balanced batfam fics i have ever read. It juggles every character so deftly and without (i feel) short changing any of their perspectives or personalities. I genuinely think it reset some of my opinions and also made me think about why i agreed or disagreed with the authors opinions. Amazing. 10/10. Im going to learn book binding some day for this fic. The Leslie plots come in specifically at part 4, and carry through to the end.

one thing about vampire jess is that she won't turn anybody into a vampire due to her trauma surrounding becoming one. she was forced to create her (1) and only sire and son lucas by her own maker in a very over the top and traumatic way and since then she won't turn anyone else, which has caused her to leave people dying out and begging to be saved. when she's with her vamp bestie celia, the other will 99% of the time turn people either out of boredom or with intent. jess won't turn anyone for any reason and shes v set in that way

I started I Was Born For This today and I'm very close to finishing it and idk how I feel about that
