🍓FAQ🍓

🍓 How I Discovered Shifting:

Heard about it through Tiktok in 2020 and pretty much immediately passed it off as bullshit. Didn't even look further into it.

Then in Summer 2023 I again saw something about it on Tiktok and this time decided to investigate further. Saw other people on other social medias discussing it and decided I had nothing to lose and a ton to gain by trying so I did a lot of research (on various platforms, tiktok, youtube, tumblr, reddit and so on.)

I was still kinda iffy about it but saw that you really had to believe and give a genuine effort otherwise it wouldn't work so the first time I tried I really affirmed a lot that I would shift and that I would believe it.

Was not immediately successful but DID have symptoms the first time I tried. While symptoms don't actually indicate whether or not you'll shift (really more a side effect of your physical body falling asleep while your conscious stays awake), it showed me that people at least were telling the truth about experiencing the symptoms which was all I needed to continue.

🍓 How I Shift

MEDITATION. I place a heavy focus on meditation and in fact meditate every day regardless of whether or not I intend to shift. I also listen to affirmations frequently throughout my day and make my own affirmations/repeat them when I remember to.

You do not technically NEED to meditate to shift but it is still an incredibly helpful tool- kind of like how you don't NEED utensils to eat food, but it sure is helpful.

Here is where I'll link a post about how I meditate/tips and tricks that have helped me as a neurodivergent person with a loud brain.

VISUALIZATION. For this part, I have to clarify that you don't need to visualize to shift- but I have hyperphantasia and literally do not know how nor can I conceptualize how to even think without visualizing what I'm thinking about. If you cannot visualize, from my understanding, it is still possible to think about these things, they just don't have images? It's hard for me to grasp not visualizing so for the non-visualization version of this I recommend doing your own research/finding another person who knows how to shift without visualization.

Since I shift at night when going to bed or when I'm about to take a nap and I always script that I'll wake up in my DR/WR, I visualize my DR/WR bed or wherever I plan on waking up. Like I'll visualize how the bed looks, how the room looks from my perspective. Once I have a clear image of it in my mind, I'll start running through my day. Like I'll visualize getting up and getting ready and so on. While I'm "getting up and getting ready" I start focusing my five senses on my DR surroundings- how does the bedding feel? How does the floor feel against my feet? When I brush my teeth how does that feel? I also very deliberately avoid thinking of my CR/CR body. If for whatever reason I'm reminded of it (an itch or a sound or whatever) I quickly brush it off and go back to focusing on visualizing my DR.

LAW OF ATTRACTION. Tbh this one kinda happened accidentally; I learned about LOA much later into my shifting journey and after I had shifted the first time. I didn't end up learning more about it until around the time I started shifting more successfully at will and was kinda like "oh I've been doing this, I just didn't realize this was what it was called."

For LOA, you gotta really live in your "imagination" because when you know something is true in your imagination it will be true in your 3D. So when I was visualizing so intently, I was making it true in my imagination so it was true in my 3D.

I also accidentally very aggressively affirmed? Every time I attempted shifting/shifted I always went at it with the full intent of "I'm going to shift, there is literally no other option. Oh, it failed before? That's fine, that was just practice. Look how good I am at meditation now. Look how good at visualization I am now. I've learned how to be a great shifter and I'm going to shift."

I did not leave room for doubts or distractions, deliberately paid more attention to my DR/4D experience than my 3D experience, and firmly affirmed that I would shift and so I did.

I FORGAVE MYSELF. Honestly, I should have placed this one first. I see so many people on so many platforms say things like "oh I suck at meditation or focusing on my 4D/Imagination. I always get distracted."

It's okay to get distracted. Look, you can move around, scratch and itch, do whatever you need to to get comfortable- none of that is gonna stop you from shifting.

Any time I had an itch I just scratched the itch and returned my thoughts to my shifting. If I noticed my thoughts wandering I just dismissed them with my next exhale and returned my attention to shifting. I didn't get mad or frustrated at myself.

These things are gonna happen regardless and it takes practice to meditate and focus your mind on a specific subject. It's human nature. Rather than getting angry at yourself, accept that distractions happen, dismiss them, and return to your shifting process. Repeat every time a distraction happens. Eventually, distractions happen less, and it gets easier and easier to keep your mind on meditation and visualizing.

🍓What is Hyperphantasia?

The exact opposite of aphantasia.

When I think about something or visualize something I experience vivid images/"videos" of it in my mind. For example, if I think of a meme I "see" it as vividly as if I was directly looking at the meme.

It is NOT the same as photographic memory. I have a normal memory, I just visualize things as clear as they are irl. Like I can visualize my bedroom perfectly because I see it every day, but if I saw a photo of a bedroom on social media and then tried to recall it I would be able to "see" the bits that stuck out the most to me (like maybe the bedding or a cool lamp or mirror) but I wouldn't see the whole bedroom if that makes sense.

🍓What is Aphantasia?

The exact opposite of hyperphantasia.

People who have this don't "see" images or anything when they think of things.

They just think them I guess? I have a hard time understanding it tbh.

Heya! How are you <3?

I want to ask you about states, if its not too bothersome! Here's the thing, im autistic and im struggling to comprehend states. I understand what it is, but not how to apply it, since i usually need very specific step by step instructions to be able to do stuff and thats not very common in the loa community.

Things like "affirm for 10 min every hour" is usually what i follow, since it's very direct, but unfortunally i was never able to manifest that way. I fully know my power, i just need direction, yk?

So i was thinking, could you please explain to me in a very clear and "step by step" way how to enter a state? I know its simply a matter of deciding to do so but how should i go about it? Should i just think "im in the state of wish fullfiled' and go about my day? If you could give me a method or technique to enter a state i would be very grateful, the more specific the better!

If thats too much for you, i totally understand, thank you for your time and all the lovely posts you make!

(Also i plan to come back with a sucess story, so wait for me lol)

of course! so, yes, entering a state just takes intention. and intention means to plan to, or to want to. so it's like if you saying "i plan to read a book tomorrow." thinking that takes no effort at all. it's even the same as saying "i want to read tomorrow." are you going to actually end up reading tomorrow? maybe not! but with intending to enter a state, it doesn't matter if you are actually going to put in any effort to enter a state, because you have automatically entered into it just by wanting to!

so if it makes more sense to you, if you have felt that you slipped out of your desired state, you can tell yourself "i am now in the state" and then carry on with your day!

you can enter the state of the wish fulfilled any time that you want to throughout the day, but it is most important to enter it if you find yourself in the state of lack. you can tell you're in the state of lack because you're doubting your manifestation, worried about it, acknowledging that you don't have it in your 3D, etc!

Once upon a time, I intended to write a Topher & Echo Have A Fun Day With Shooting And Throwing Axes.

Yeah, I don't know what crack I was smoking, either. Mostly I wanted to give Topher a goddamn BREAK because my man was about to lose his goddamn mind.

This has been sitting in my email drafts for... five years? 09/2018, to be precise.

Free to a good home, be kind to Topher (we know what happens to him, my boy needs love.)

"Did I fall asleep?"

"For a little while." Topher was stressing hard, but trying to keep his voice calm for the Active in the chair.

"Shall I go now?"

"Oh my God, YES PLEASE." He coughed, and shook his head. "I mean, if you like." Topher retreated into the post-imprint script even as every molecule of his being vibrated under his skin.

The Active and her handler left the lab, and Topher collapsed onto his couch. He wanted to go fully fetal, wrap his arms around his head, pull up his hoodie and scream until his voice was gone. Because honestly, he was having real trouble with the thought of his plans for his tech in the hands of people who were not him. But worse, it had been Adelle who had betrayed him, and that was the current bomb about to crack his coconut.

But he didn't trust Ivy within a league of his programming station, much less his imprints. And Doctor Whiskey Saunders was bat guano insane and prone to doing things like stalk him in the server room where he slept--past tense, notice, because he didn't sleep any more. Not with crazy doctor lady on the loose.

So he was working on a thirty-six hour no-sleeping binge, and he was starting to think that he was the one in need of a treatment, because Dolls didn't really care about things like misused tech and betrayal. Or not sleeping. Or crazy ex-Doll doctors.

"Okay!" Topher shot up off the couch, jerking himself awake with a shout. The fact that he was even *considering* wiping his own coconut and wandering out with the bison meant that he needed help, capital-H Help, and it was quite possible there was no one in the House who cared enough to help.

"Topher?"

"Aaah!" He jerked, shocked as he turned around. "Boyd!" Of course, and Echo behind him. "You... you... I told you I was gonna make you wear a bell if you didn't stop!" The comment was directed at Echo and Boyd equally, though it was Echo he'd warned.

"You need to get out of here for a little while," Boyd said calmly.

"You're tired," Echo said just as quietly, and her fingertips reached out to gently touch the bags under his eyes. "You need to sleep. But you don't."

"Uh, no, there's about a thousand things on my mind keeping me from sleeping, and even if I was tired--which I'm not--" he was actually beyond exhausted and headed into sleep-deprivation.

"Trust me." Echo pointed to the chair. "Make me safe to help you."

Topher cocked his head to the side, and then looked back at Boyd. "What is she saying?"

"Echo is booked on an anonymous gig who paid twice the normal fee to not give a name. Only an address where the Active is to be dropped off," Boyd clarified. "So you print her as whatever you need. Bodyguard, teddy bear, exotic dancer that plays video games, I don't know. Print her, take her, and go here." He gave Topher a key. "That's the executive suite at the Forrester, on the other side of town. Ivy will take over printing for a couple of days, and you come back after you've gotten 48 hours of downtime."

yknow what im gonna talk about my autism now. i have thoughts in my brain and i wish to post them (also disclaimer: i'm not 100% sure i have autism? i've always explained it as being on the border of autistic and neurotypical and i'm not fully sure which side i fall on)

im very low needs id say! i can largely function on my own, mostly it's a bit hard to take shower (hair being wet = mild bad sensory) but that's something i feel i can work on and actively get better at

the highest-needs part for me is like. if doing things for someone else, i need things explained in a Very Specific way! it has to be a completely unambiguous instruction list; i've compared it to like, instructions a robot could use. if there's anything ambiguous, i have to ask about it, and if i can't ask about it, i just end up shutting down. (this also applies to doing basically anything for the first time if it's important!)

like for example, helping clean stuff up! valid instruction sets:

"take all of these items in this specific location, and move them to this other location."

"i'll sort the items into piles. anything in pile A, put on the bookshelf. anything in pile B, put in the pantry. anything in pile C, put in your room or the basement (your choice; there's no consequences for your choices here, it doesn't matter). anything in pile D, put in the trash." (this arrangement works very well for me!!!)

"anything in this area with property A, put in location A. anything with property B, put in location B. anything with property C, put in location C." (a bit harder, there'll be a lot of questions of things on the boundary or things with multiple relevant properties)

but if it's something like, i don't know where they want it, i will ask A Lot of questions, like one per item! and this can often get annoying to people which sucks since if i can't ask, i just shut down!

beyond that, it's mostly stuff like needing jokes to be clarified a lot, since often i'll read something as way harsher than it's intended. some people i know are really cool and will include things like "(this is a joke)" on most or all of the jokes they make! i like those people. it's hard for me to be friends with someone if i don't feel comfortable approaching them to ask for clarification on the tone of a message, but i can be acquaintances with them without too much difficulty.

then there's some relatively minor things, like i mishear things a lot and will ask "what'd you say?" a Lot! and i'll also tune out by accident while reading or thinking about something and then i'll come back to reality like "wait whatd you say i was thinking about british telephone boxes". also some images and sounds are bad sensory to me, it's not a huge deal since if it's an image i can just Look Away like switching to another chat, if it's on discord or similar i'll have to either be tabbed out or on another chat 99% of the time, or do a big screen-clearing message of purely newlines. (my gf is trying very hard to spoiler-tag things she thinks might be bad sensory! is very good.)

that's basically all of my needs relating to other people, the rest of my autism (as far as i know) essentially boils down to little challenges i can overcome on my own or little personality quirks (disclaimer: idk how many of these are autism-related, if any!). like how i will get obsessed with something and talk about it frequently for WEEKS (right now it's rats and toki pona)! or looking at a message, reading it, and then taking 7 years to reply since it was too much mental effort to reply just then and then i tab out and forget and the next time that person messages i'm like "oh yeah you said something!!". or listening to the same song for hours straight! or stuff like eating the exact same thing for lunch, every day, for years, with few exceptions (it's a ham and cheese sandwich with exactly 4 slices of ham)! or looking at a box and thinking. wow. this is an amazing piece of engineering. and inspecting every detail of the box

also uh i use a lot of words since i like being precise. which, i Imagine is Somewhat Evident in this post! (also i have no idea how i should do tags so i have been very conservative with them on this post)

Hello, not to seem rude, but I feel like your posting of AI generated "art" could be incredibly offensive to actual artists who worked for their skills. I understand that you wish to see those pictures and are unable to draw them but maybe next time you could commission an artist? I'm sorry if this seems disrespectful but I feel most artists dislike AI because it removes the realness behind the art and while it's easier to get what you want it's like cheating. I did see that you said your art skills aren't the best which is why you don't draw the images yourself but maybe you could practice more if you have time and post any pictures you make then on here instead of using AI. <33

I don't post a lot of ai pics not like I used to and when I did it was because I'd nly just started using it. At the moment I'm literally posting one a day and not even every day. As I said previously I will get practice in with my own drawing as and when I have the time and am in the right frame of mind to do it.

It is so I'm told possible to filter out tags on tumblr so you could try that. I'm not trying to take away any other artists work but those pics are posted for fun and I also post one or two ai pics in the fanfics I write. I do intend once my own drawing improves (I do work and look after my elderly mother, have a house to clean and meals to cook etc) to use my own art but in the mean time I use ai images.

Not every pic or even most of the pics I post on my blog are AI. I post a lot of screenshots too. I do also post my drawings but I'm currently not happy enough to use them for my fanfics. I do struggle drawing people.

Just to clarify since you did suggest commissioning an artist to create illustrations for me, doesn't commissioning an artist mean paying the artist to do the work? If so that is something I can't afford to do.

Also the Valvert pics I'm posting almost daily atm are specifically for pride month. I don't usually ship Valvert thought I have written and published one chapter of what will be a two chapter valvert story which again was done because it's pride month.

However back to the matter at hand, try filtering out the tags. I currently use the tags, 'ai generated javert images' and also the 'ai generated valvert pics' tags.

You will see les of the ai pics on my blog when pride month is over probably until halloween unless my drawing skills improve before then. I can't currenly think of any kind of month being marked for any reason (like pride month) after June that I'll be making ai pics of so they will be solely for my fanfics after this months is over.

Now I have watched a few adaptations of Les Mis and got screenshots I will try and use some screenshots as well if I can find any suitable. But I do like creating ai pics for situations that aren't canon and that could be fun situations like the one I posted today.

I am working on my own drawing skills so please be patient with me. I hadn't done any drawing for many years until a month (or two) ago so I was way out of practice and still need to find the style that works best for me. But the ai generated pics will be temporary and not for the long term. I don't use ai with the intention of making anyone uncomfortable or taking anything away from other artists and would like to apologise to anyone who takes issue with it. There's every chance I will find something different to ai to try out and thus I'll get bored with the ai generator. Every so often my brain gets bored with certain things (I'm the same with certain foods) and moves onto a new novelty.

I don’t follow you I just stumble across this repost but what’s the point of leaving comments/feedback if 99% of the time they never get a reply and/or the author ends up ghosting the story 💀 nobody forces anyone to put out the work they do but most of the time the energy that y’all want is mostly never returned.

I assume this is in response to my reblog of the post asking people to leave their comments on AO3. (For anyone who missed it, it's here: https://www.tumblr.com/burnishedvictory/739351436811534336)

Several things:

The point of leaving comments/feedback is to tell the author you liked whatever it was you just read. The energy you're returning is the work they put into writing the fic you just read. If the author replies, that's a bonus, but not something I personally ever expect.

Some things to know about fics where the author doesn't reply to comments regularly:

There's about a 99% chance that the author read your comment and loved it. I don't know of any authors who don't love comments.

(Specifically, nice comments. Given that you felt it was okay to anonymously message someone you don't even follow such a blunt message, I feel the need to clarify this. No one wants critique, unless they've specifically asked for it. We do this for fun. If you don't like a fic, the back button is right there. Also, don't ask the author if/when they're going to finish an unfinished story. That annoys a lot of writers. (Not me, personally, but I have many writer friends who it really really annoys.))

Back to discussing fics where the author doesn't reply to comments! In my case, I have ADHD. For whatever reason, writing fic is something that my ADHD lets me do easily, but replying to comments is not. I would love to reply and still intend to, but then another day passes when I haven't actually done it. But my lack of replies doesn't mean I don't cherish each and every comment I get. I keep them in a separate folder and reread them regularly. I'd like to do that with all the comments I get, including not on AO3, but I am just not that organized (see: ADHD), so those comments get lost (which is exactly the point the post you're referring to was making).

I'm also chronically ill, and only have so much functioning time in my day. Other people work full time jobs, raise kids, etc. It becomes a question of priorities - do you want us to work on fics, or reply to comments? Sometimes we can't do both.

Finally, if you read the post you're referencing carefully, it's asking for people who are already leaving feedback in some way to (also) leave it as an AO3 comment. If you're leaving praise in a tag or a bookmark, throw it into a comment on the fic! If you're chatting about a fic positively with your friends, copy and paste the chat into the AO3 comments. (I'll even clarify this one - personally, if people private messaged me a chat like that, I'd be over the moon. I know there are privacy concerns with a chat like that, so you might not want to comment on AO3 with that specific thing. Very fair! But, like I said above, a chat sent to me like this would probably vanish into my memory, as I'm not organized enough to add it to my comments folder. It would be a very good memory, but not easily convenient to reread.)

For you, dear anon, if getting a response and the author finishing the story is that important to you, then I recommend only commenting on completed fics where the author replies regularly. No one forces you to comment, even on fics that you enjoyed that the author spent hours and hours working on. They are free for your enjoyment.

But consider how much energy you're bringing to the table to encourage the authors whose fics you love. Maybe your comment will encourage the author to open the file on a story that's been back burnered. Or if you tell an author about a specific part you loved, maybe that thing will show up in future fics.

Or, maybe, there will never be any indication that the writer even read your comment. But in that case, maybe the writer will get your comment and smile. Maybe they'll tell their friends and family about the lovely comment they got. Maybe your comment will make their day. And maybe you'll never get specifically rewarded for your comment, but you will put positive energy into the world, and who knows where that will lead.

Aaah!! First of all, thank you for getting back to me!! I hope you don't mind if I go point by point, providing my input/elaboration on them. If you're okay with this being a discussion, of course!! I love this kind of thing, analysis is what I do on my blog and I think it's always fun to discuss. And just so it's out there between us , I have finished KHR in its entirety!! I rewatch and read it almost on the weekly actually, and I've been here since I was very young as I'm sure a lot of us have been in our very ancient fandom haha. With that being out of the way, let's get started!! Putting this in a cut due to its length.

I'll clarify it here briefly and go into later on a further point since I know you said something further down about this. But, present day Xanxus certainly hasn't given up on the position of Vongola X. I think we agree, definitely not in Varia arc. Shimon arc, he refuses to come to Tsuna's inheritance.

Then as well in rainbow arc, he's pretty pissed about the idea of teaming up with Tsuna.

I talked about towards the end of my post that by Future arc, it does seem like his 'wound' has healed up enough to not be so easily provokable by outsiders. But, I definitely think he still needs time in the present timeline! To answer your other question in regards to his wrath, you're definitely right I didn't explain Xanxus's wrath well enough as I was mostly focused on HOW it makes him move as a character since it seems to be his driving force. (It's virtually impossible to make Xanxus move otherwise, and moments where he acts without his rage/wrath are few and far between that it makes the characters themselves confused. Such as when he accepted being Mammon's representative!) To answer your question though, I do think that his rage is an innate part of him that governs how he reacts to events in his life. His motivator :) It serves to urge him to foster that 'complex' about being Vongola X, through Varia arc.

On the same note, using "pride" to describe Xanxus when it was never intended for him can be a bit confusing. I understand that you are linking this analysis to the Shimon Family, but sometimes using unrelated terminology can jack up your analysis, especially when the term is used differently with a closely related character. (Squalo!)

So, I think every character is capable of pride, I was saying in my analysis how the phrase "Pride" presents itself with Xanxus, using that same Shimon Terminology. That being said, I do think Squalo still applies to the Shimon terminology too as Shimon is just taking the definition and applying it to Tsuna (and his companions) even though Squalo had it first. I think we can safely say "Something you can't give up" is very much a Squalo-coded statement, as he's the embodiment of this word in the series. The person who represents what it's like, the positives of it, and the negatives of it. Specifically in relation to his foil, Yamamoto, who cannot seem to fully engulf himself in either his baseball or his swordfighting. Unable to choose what he can't give up on and wanting both, when he can't have both. I think a good way to look at it is Shimon gives us our definition, Squalo embodies it, Xanxus and Tsuna use it as motivations (Using it differently as their prides are separate things). Xanxus's use of his pride is what I was looking at here. I applied what Amano did for Tsuna for Xanxus!! Of course, though this is good to know as I can be more concise in my post about what I'm trying to say. But I hope this helps make things a little more clearer on my end.

Xanxus is told from the very get-go that he is destined to be Vongola X, by his mother. He has the name with two X's, born on 10/10, with a Sky flame from a young age. Falling into Nono's care is more of a confirmation of those assumptions.

Absolutely agree here! I think the part you're highlighting here in my own post is about me saying that Xanxus was fooled into believing he was his son. (Of course feel free to correct me if I'm wrong?) Which I think it was both things in this case. It was his mother who told him he had to be the Ninth's son, because of all the things you mentioned. (Poor Xanxus, I think I'd be pissed too if the universe pointed me in all those directions and then just didnt let me win ERKHNAH) I think we were just looking at it from different angles (If I'm correct that this is the part you're highlighting).

Xanxus' "wrath" does not begin after the betrayal, it's a quality about him that he's always had.

Okay, this is something I definitely could have worded better on my part. I do think he's likely always been an angry person, I definitely don't believe he was an angel prior to the betrayal. The scenes we do see show more of an arrogance and haughty behavior with him refusing to sit at the same table as other family boss candidates. The wrath I'm referencing here is the wrath that pushes him to do what he does for the coup and the ring conflict, till he finally cools. (god bless xanxus, it took you over 8 years king.) It's this specific wrath or rather the reason FOR this outburst that causes the dominoes that lead to our canon events. THAT started after betrayal. But omg yeah, I'm so sorry I didn't mean to make him out to be some angel pre-betrayal.

You say early on that Squalo is drawn to the "Lions Den" of Xanxus because he is the Ninth's son, and then later say he is drawn to his rage and not his position of Vongola X. Which is it?

Ahh, about this, what I typed in my post was, "It's here, his wrath introduces him to Squalo who walks into the lion's den (or at least someone he had believed to be a Vongola Lion) wanting to see where that anger led him. Squalo, the series embodiment of the word 'Pride'. Eager to prove that Xanxus, who he believed to be the Ninth's son, he would be a valuable ally to." The comment about him believing to be the Ninth's son wasn't me trying to say that he is Xanxus's ally because he's the ninth's son but rather a comment on the fact that he was fascinated that the someone like the Ninth's son would radiate such rage and he wanted to see what he was going to do with all that anger. Then, Squalo's own desire to prove himself in order to keep watching Xanxus and see where this leads is what further pushes him to become a valuable ally for him. He's strictly following his rage! I also wanted to draw a parallel that Xanxus had everyone convinced, even his most loyal Captain and I later went on to say that it was lucky for Xanxus though that Squalo never truly cared about his blood, but rather his rage and so he stuck around even after finding out the truth. Also, I believe in that very scene where Squalo swears to Xanxus, he calls him son of a noble or heir ("Onzoushi") so I was referencing that as well!

The sentence: "his wrath made him chase after his pride." I don't think this is entirely accurate. Sure, his rage made him form a revenge plot after being betrayed, but "being Vongola X" is just something he needs to be because it's what he needs to be.

Hmm.. See here I wonder if we're saying the same thing, just said in different ways. I identified pride as something you can't give up, so in a way it's a need. Just like Squalo can't give up the sword and Tsuna can't give up his friends. Xanxus ALSO can't give up the position of Vongola X. These are all needs for them all. They all fully believe that that sword, tsuna's friends, and the position of Vongola X are all needs for them. It's not negotiable for them. So, I guess what I'm trying to say his that Xanxus's wrath refuses to let him let go of Vongola X because his wrath is how he reacts to the world and the position is his "need"/"something he can't give up" and he's seeing someone trying to take it away from him hence his reaction. Tsuna reacts very similarly to when HIS pride is being taken away from him (Shimon arc). Plots to find Yamamoto's attacker and everything.

Cradle affair = putting your baby to sleep.

OKAY, I said soothing to draw that connection that Xanxus was having a temper tantrum. Rage is typically depicted as red hot and I kinda look at the ice as "cooling" that hence the soothing as a reference to the Ninth freezing him to cool off this fire that had started within Xanxus that he could not put out by regular means. (As in talking to his son) Due to Xanxus's actions up to that point forcing his hand, "Iemitsu told me not to kill you, but I don't have a choice anymore". But ultimately not being able to, because that's his son and instead opting for the freezing "Soothing" or "Putting him to sleep". Arguably, a crueler option but the situation was cruel in the first place. I think the idea is the same though, and represents that messy parent-child theming that The Ninth and Xanxus have going on. I do sometimes use the putting him to sleep part of it as Xanxus is referenced pretty often as having "woken up" from the ice. It just so happened that I ended up using the soothing side of things and just a different point in the line of soothing your child then putting them to sleep.

Xanxus does not care about the benefits of being Vongola X. It's about being the thing he was supposed to be and proving himself.

Simple explanation here for this one! "He again WAS proud to be his son, either that's from the benefits that being the heir for Vongola X brought or out of some genuine familial love." I wasn't trying to say that he likes the prestige or whatever else come from being Vongola X, I was trying to say that he's proud that he's the Ninth's son whether that's because he gets to be the heir and the benefit being that he will have fulfilled everything his life led up to or if it's from genuine familial is up for interpretation. It's hard to say frankly and up to interpretation. So, we agree here, just some iffy wording on my part. Really sorry!!

You entertain that Tsuna is "almost" the opposite of Xanxus, but you were on the right track there! Tsuna IS a purposeful narrative foil to Xanxus.

Another simple explanation here, omg embarrassing first of all I want to say I know that Tsuna is his foil!! ahh!!! Wasn't trying to say almost as in I didn't know that, but rather almost as in the fact that are connected by their forced life paths (Tsuna being forced to do this, Xanxus being forced to accept he is not able to) isn't a parallel that is pointed out excessively in the text as much as the other parts of them being narrative foil (Xanxus's wrath versus Tsuna's gentle nature being one of the bigger ones). It's just not something that's super present in the text itself, and something I simply noticed and made a connection of my own accord. I try to point out when I was simply making conclusions about this text rather than saying this was a real theme that Amano was trying to express. Hence the almost!

Biggest disagreement I have by a long shot - please reassess the Rain Battle. Look at how Xanxus reacts to himself versus in front of others. This scene specifically is so indicative of Xanxus' character that leaving it as "he's happy that his secret is safe," is disastrous for your analysis. The biggest question you can ask yourself when analyzing Xanxus' behavior is: WHO IS WATCHING?

This is really interesting to me. But first let me explain, I do not think its just as simple as "he's happy his secret is safe" but rather Xanxus's past by this point in the story plagues him and Squalo is another part of that. He wants to erase himself of his past because well, it's all humiliating to him. This includes Squalo's involvement in it. Before I continue, I should make it clear I do like XS very very much so haha. I'm very obsessed with their relationship in context to the canon. They've got SOMETHING going on, and I want to be drowned in more of it. Judging by what you said, I do wonder if you think he is somehow faking his reaction there. I do not believe this actually (But again, I'm open for discussion about it.) Do I think Xanxus cares about Squalo? By this point, it's complicated. By Rainbow? Yes. I think Xanxus during this arc is so swallowed up in everything that's going on, his allies are coming second to his goal. His wrath and his dedication to achieving his goal (his "pride") have drowned him to the point where I believe he is looking at Squalo and going "Good riddance, another part of my past is gone" Because by Varia arc, Squalo IS likely a painful reminder for him. It's Squalo holding onto him here with the intensity of "You can't get rid of me. I know you." Xanxus is angered by this, because he is ISOLATING himself from everything related to this past. He's so angered by this he yells out at Squalo asking him what he knows about him, because how dare you pretend to know anything? It's then Squalo reveals that he knows. And Xanxus is forced to rely on the very people he's been ignoring the entire ring conflict, his allies, to help him for the rest of the fight. In general, I believe that Xanxus is different from pre-ice from post-ice.

As you can see here, Squalo just wants all of this to be over with. He'll win his match (or so he thinks) they win, they resolve all this and go back to whatever normal was for them. There seems to be a switch up from Xanxus's regular actions here for Squalo to call it a "game". So, yeah I don't really think Xanxus necessarily faked anything. I think that was a moment to see how cruel he was, and he's a part of Varia they're not exactly known for having tender hearts. In general, I also think he DOES tend to wear his emotions out on his face. His hurt is quieter than his anger, I will say that. But when he cares, I believe it shows on his face.

In that last image, you can see he's definitely not pleased to hear Timoteo see that. When he cares, he's quiet. When he's angry, he has outbursts. He's even obvious when he's being suspicious, as evidenced by Reborn realizing that he was up to something after the mist battle and the cloud battle.

Reborn could tell Xanxus's response meant something he had up his sleeve (even though he incorrectly guessed what it was). He can see clearly that this confidence is coming from somewhere. As well as Xanxus's more boisterous moments as he presented himself in the Rain battle, he's very open to going "I'm excited." on other occasions.

The context clues we are given about his character seem to reflect someone manipulative sure, but only in the context of achieving his goals. Otherwise, whatever he feels, he shows it on his face or through his body language and it's a huge negative emotion he channels it into rage as that's his way of expressing these sorts of things. This ends up leading me to believe that was a genuine reaction. Then, throughout the story, he does slowly grow closer to Squalo and his other allies. He considers them more, is willing to help them, and shows himself to get rattled a little bit when something happens to them. "Get up, shitty shark." The most obvious example of this, as well as him helping Mammon, and relieving Mammon's anxiety by telling them that they're going to win. Again, I'm interested to see why/what scenes indicate this mask/performance he's putting on. What scenes indicated that that is the kind of person he is? That he cares that someone is watching and not the brazen person who doesn't need bonds I'm watching? I have always believed he is intended to parallel Tsuna here as his foil, showing someone who cannot forget his own goals enough to show mourning for the death of his most loyal subject. A battle earlier, Tsuna's version of this occurred where he told Gokudera that it doesn't matter to him if he wins or loses as long as he comes back alive. That's the kind of Xanxus I see, and I think it's fine personally if he forgets his ally during this time because his character growth is so important because of that. To go from this to telling Raisel that the Vongola stand united ten years later? A peak into the growth that he goes through? To back to the present, where we see him stand up to help Mammon, to get rattled by Squalo dropping against him? A quietness hitting him unlike in the Rain battle. It's really fascinating for me to observe, and it shows that he has thought about his actions enough to change in the next three arcs. I hope this doesn't come across badly ;w; I am genuinely curious on your side of things.

Xanxus "ever accepting who he is" is not inconclusive. Just wondering, did you ever finish the manga? I don't want to spoil you, LOL! There are also bits in the TYL Arc that you mention that back this up. Would someone still hung up on their blood tell a complete stranger that there's nothing inferior about it?

So, I already clarified further up that I did indeed finish KHR. So going back past that, I don't believe that Xanxus is any way upset about not actually being Vongola. What I think he doesn't accept is his inability to become Vongola X. At least in the present arc, as I sent further up, he refuses to go to Tsuna's inheritance ceremony. He refuses to team up with Tsuna, until he has to at the end of at the arc, where Tsuna approaches him with a serious request to help and he reacts appropriately. He is growing towards the Xanxus that would never let an outsider attack the Vongola even if he disagrees with how things are currently running.

Should also be noted that he tells Tsuna that he'll leave and won't team up with him if he does not get his way. He's still very much petty and not at all respecting Tsuna's supposed "authority" as Vongola X. But yeah, in his eyes who cares that he doesn't have Vongola blood? He isn't inferior any less than the others who do, especially when it comes to sheer strength. He's powerful, and he knows it. That still doesn't get him the Vongola X position though. I agree with you though that he's over the bloodline/mix breed distinction.

I personally don't think Xanxus still wants the Vongola X position in the TYL Arc, but that's just up to interpretation!

Definitely, definitely! I can't say for sure, because the line he gives is "I want the Vongola at its strongest, not because I couldn't kill him, but because the Vongola has to be at its strongest" Now, is he saying here that he'll take the Vongola from Tsuna when the time is right? Or is he saying that under Tsuna, the Vongola is at its strongest? It is never made clear and honestly likely left vague on purpose. For as much information as Future arc gave us, it never gave us enough to draw proper conclusions about things which is good because that's more digging for us for the few clues we do get. Safe to say though, even TYL, Tsuna's very presence is enough to set Xanxus off.

I said before in my post that the wound has healed a little bit for Xanxus, but what that really means is that it just takes a little bit longer for him to explode.

Personally, I also like the interpretation that he eventually agrees to not become Vongola X as I think that's fun sdkjgns and I'm clearly very Tsuna-biased. I just didn't want to put that in my post because I couldn't say it in good faith that that's the case!

And finally, as a big sweeping statement, you analyzed Xanxus how he would want to be analyzed. There is a ridiculously important factor about his character that you didn't touch on because of this.

So, I think this is interesting because I don't really believe I painted Xanxus in that good of a light in my original post, I'm curious to see what you mean here. On my end, I called his wrath a weakness, I said he was having a temper tantrum, and that he can't accept at least during Varia arc that he isn't getting the position. So, I'm not quite sure what you're referring to. What's this important factor that I missed? Do let me know if you're still interested in continuing this discussion!!

This was a HELLA LONG POST SO IM PUTTING IT UNDER A CUT. THIS WAS MY FIRST ATTEMPT AT A XANXUS ANALYSIS, SO I HOPE YOU VARIA FANS ENJOY??

OKAY so I did my last poll (Favorite arc) because I wanted to figure out which arc/aspect of an arc I should look at next. And Varia won. Also, as well my friend has been slowly scheming to get me into the Varia as a whole. Safe to say, it's starting to work. ANYWAY, since I've never done him before, the thing I wanted to look at here is Xanxus, his relationship with his wrath, and with his "pride". To start, Xanxus comes into the Ninth's care as a child being fooled into believing that he was the Ninth's son. Overtime, under the Ninth's care, he is led to believe that it is his birthright to be Vongola X. Pride as defined by my beloved Simon arc is something you can't give up on. This is no doubt Xanxus's pride. The only problem is that it was a fake one, so easily ripped away from him by the mere fact that he and the Ninth had no blood connections. This is where his Wrath "begins", furious at having been 'betrayed' that there was never any intention to make him the heir. The very thing he made his Pride. It's here, his wrath introduces him to Squalo who walks into the lion's den (or at least someone he had believed to be a Vongola Lion) wanting to see where that anger led him. Squalo, the series embodiment of the word 'Pride'. Eager to prove that Xanxus, who he believed to be the Ninth's son, he would be a valuable ally to.

Squalo and us the audience then get to see personally where Xanxus's Wrath had led him. Despite Xanxus's pride being fake, it was still not something he could give up on. He was going to take his pride back, no matter who bled for it. Hence the coup. His Wrath made him chase after his Pride, and what it ended up being was one.. big temper tantrum from the hands of someone with far too much power. It's not lost on me as well that the result of the coup is referred to as the Cradle Incident. A cradle, what you would do to calm down a screaming child. It's also here that Squalo finds out the truth about Xanxus not truly being Vongola X. In the midst of this family debacle, Xanxus's pride is confirmed to not just himself but to Squalo as well as false. Lucky for Xanxus, Squalo was never following his pride but rather his rage. Unfortunately, I'm not entirely sure that Xanxus sees it that way.

As Xanxus wakes up from the ice with years having passed, it does nothing to sooth the burn of his anger of his ripped away pride. He hatches up another plan, the ring conflict, in order to crush the one that his 'birthright' was given to. To spit on his father's choice and destroy what the Ninth had wanted for the boy, just like his wants were destroyed. "Show me what that old man saw in you." Is no doubt the wrath slipping through. It's a "What made you a better choice than me?" I don't doubt that the relationship between Xanxus and the Ninth is.. almost irreparable at this point, but he is still someone who thought highly of the Ninth's opinion just based on that and the fact he felt betrayed by the ninth's action. He again WAS proud to be his son, either that's from the benefits that being the heir for Vongola X brought or out of some genuine familial love. It's hard to say frankly and up to interpretation. (In the very least, we can at least say Timoteo did genuinely care for Xanxus but this post isn't about him<3) Either way, the ring conflict begins and it is Xanxus's chance at retaking his pride and getting his proper and true revenge for what was done for him.

But this time though, there are slight differences between now and the coup. Time either in the cradle or otherwise has morphed how Xanxus sees things. There's.. an added humiliation to Xanxus now, one that hates what happened back in the coup. Not in the way that he regrets what he did, persay but rather the way the Ninth's eyes looked upon him in pity, the way he sees that same look in Tsuna. The fact that Squalo was there, whether or not he had heard what happened. It burns Xanxus. He wants his pride back, but he wants it renewed. Freshly removed from his past. He wants the Ninth gone, and for the way Tsuna shares that same look in his eyes, he's going to take both of them down in one go if he can help it. (The cloud battle, putting Tsuna in the situation where he could be charged with possibly ending the Ninth's life. It would've been poetic, wouldn't it? The two gentle souls of the Vongola destroying one another.) Then, there's Squalo.. Squalo, who "dies" in the rain battle and Xanxus can only laugh. Because, finally, things are going his way. Now, everything is in place. He can now take the position of Vongola X without the threads of his past holding onto him tightly, reminding him of his failure, of who he really is, of his falsified pride. What's poetic is that it's the embodiment of Pride who appears, with an absolute refusal to die, for real pride isn't something you can give up, that reveals Xanxus's truth to everyone. Tells everyone what was essentially that no matter how hard Xanxus struggles and plots and rips and tears, his 'pride' will never be his again. Xanxus doesn't accept this, it wasn't Squalo's intention to make him to either, but the option isn't in his hands. It never was. The ninth, at the end of the cloud battle, blames himself for all of his happening. For not being strong enough to do what had to be done. This can be interpreted as him referring to not killing Xanxus during the cradle incident, but it can also be interpreted as him not being able to tell Xanxus the truth from the start. Not being able to deny Xanxus the chance of life away from the slums. His 'kind' action only served to put Xanxus's life down a path of the inability to choose. Almost paralleled to Tsuna in a way, who brought into the role of Vongola X against his will, Xanxus is kept away from Vongola X against his will.

Xanxus's wrath is a weakness, let me make that clear. It blinds him from the truth, from his unfortunate circumstances, from accepting that it just couldn't be. I'm not sure if he'll ever accept it, so long as he has that wrath. But, the good news is that we see ten years later into the future, his wrath is no longer an open enough of a wound for others to poke at and prod to get him to react the way they want. His response to Raisel was nothing less than a "Do you think I'm that easy?" He IS better there about it. The Vongola is STILL his family, no matter what inner conflict there is and no outsider is going to be able to rip into him half as easily as the people from inside did. As for what he's done with his pride ten years down? It's hard to say, he desires Vongola at its strongest and at that time it was the strongest under Tsuna's control. I won't pretend he doesn't still want the title, but the wound isn't fresh anymore at least by then.

OOGH. WELL, THATS IT. I'm curious to see if you guys have any interpretations about his "pride", if you agree, disagree, or if you have any interpretations of what his pride has become ten years down the line. Thank you for reading this far!!!

In light of episode 22 of Ousama Ranking, I wanted to discuss some of the things that happened therein and try to recontextualize them.

Now, to clarify, this isn't a "Miranjo defense post" or something like that, nor am I trying to say that the author nessesarily intended all of the things I'm going to imply. I'm also not saying, "Oh, it makes sense if you Really think about it & are smart like me." Like no, just no.

These aren't definitively correct or canon ideas or interpretations. This is just my way of rationalizing and recontectualizing what happened in canon so that I can comfortably move forward with the story.

Anyway, this is going to be divided up into several sections, and 2 separate posts.

Spoilers below! (Also FYI, this is going to be long as HELL, so Keep Reading at your own risk.

1. Daida x Miranjo

Alright, let's get the elephant out of the room. This was weird. Really weird.

I am NOT saying that this would be OK in real life or that it's totally normal and you shouldn't bat an eye at it. And just because there's no real life equivalent for something, that doesn't mean it's automatically all a-ok. But there's absolutely nothing sexual or even inherently romantic about this development so I see no reason to interpret it in the worst way possible if I can help it. Therefore I do feel justified in arguing that A. We have no reason (as far as I am aware) to believe that Miranjo was an adult before being placed in the mirror. And B. Since there's nothing in the real world that even really comes close to possessing a mirror and then being resurrected, it can't conclusively be said that Miranjo "aged" while she was in the mirror. Furthermore, I'm going to explain why their marriage wasn't romantic in the second half of this post (yeah, in retrospect, I should have put that part first but I wanted to get my speculative math out of the way).

First of all, let's address how old Miranjo was to begin with. I suck at math, so I may scew up here, but everything is going to be approximate anyway. Please keep in mind that I am intentionally trying to assume she's as young as possible in all these cases.

When her & Bosse are on the island, I'd place her at about 8 or 9. She's still very young looking and definitely a child.

By the time she and Bosse visit the demon, I would say she would be around 10 or 11.

I'm inclined to say she's still at this age when Bosse encounters Sheena. Travel wouldn't take long for him, and there's no reason why he would waste any time trying to find and woo the wife he needs to bear a child. Similarly, I don't think he & Sheena would have waited very long before having a kid. They both seem like Very straightforward people, and considering they were both warriors at this point, who "never planned to live very long" I doubt Bosse ever had to insist on having a child quickly.

So by this logic, Miranjo would have been about 10 or 11 by the time Bojji was born.

A few years pass, and in that time, she builds a giant creepy basement, a war with some shreks begins, and Miranjo also decides to tutor Apeas. Now, we know that this happened before Miranjo possessed the mirror because of the manga. In the manga, the Miranjo-shaped puppet she uses to escape the mirror every once in a while is drawn with a line across a neck to show she's made of plastic or wood or whatever.

When Miranjo's flashbacks with Apeas are shown, no such line is present. So ironically, her line about her body being "mostly fabricated" was less accurate then than it became later.

Now, this might seem to imply that Miranjo was around for a very long time before getting put in the mirror. However, there's pretty definitive evidence against this. We know that Bosse's kingdom was founded on the day of Bojji's birth. And we also know that Miranjo died at the same time as the Queen.

I can't imagine it being contested that Bojji was only about 3 or 4 at this point. He wouldn't have many memories of his mother later on, or even nessecarily a crystal clear idea of what happened, but an event like this would be enough for him to feel it's impact years down the road.

This means that Miranjo is about 13-15 years old when she is killed and her body is preserved in ice.

Considering that this would make Daida about 10 years old in the current events of the story, it's still a really weird matchup to have them together, but it's in no way a grown adult being in a relationship with a child. I'll come back to this in more detail later however.

1B. Now to address the issue of mirror time. Miranjo was clearly in the mirror for a good long while, I'm not going to bother with the exact amount. The problem is that while Miranjo's body wasn't aging, it's not clear if we can say her mind was.

The only things I can think to compare Miranjo's situation to are either a ghost possessing some cursed object, or being in a coma. In the first instance, we obviously don't say that a ghost is aging just because the object they are bound to exists in real time. Ghosts stay frozen in or around the age they were when they died (At least in all the stories I've heard, unless we're talking Ghost of Christmas Past). However, could you say that if a ghost was self-aware enough to gain new experiences, couldn't the ghost possibly mature over time? I'm not sure to be honest.

Similarly, there's no recorded case that I can find of a person entering a coma as a child or tween and coming out of it as an adult. The consensus seems to be that such a person would definitely not have matured and would at least on some level still have the mentality of a child, but there's no way to know for sure. (I mean if you're a neuroscientist and want to claim otherwise go ahead, but I'm not gonna try.)

Now you may be wondering why I would compare Miranjo's situation to being in a coma when comatose people aren't conscious, and Miranjo definitely was self-aware. The thing is, over the span of 10 years or so, she may not have been conscious very often at all.

For comparison, I want to bring up the character of Alphonse Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist. (Spoilers for both Fullmetal Alchemist and Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood after this FYI)

Alphonse lost his body and is a soul bound to a suit of armor. There are 2 series based upon this initial premise. In the first, his original nody was dissolved into energy. When he regains a body, it is the biologically at the same age he lost his original body at AND he loses all memories of his years in the armor. In the second series, Brotherhood, Alphonse's body has been preserved at a place called The Gate, and when he gets it back, he has grown physically and retains his memories. Now in both these cases, the retaining of memories depended on the fate and aging of the body, but Miranjo's did not.

Now the real comparison I want to draw here though, is that Alphonse Cannot sleep. He often cites it as being the worst part of having a metal body. He is ALWAYS conscious, and his mind is ALWAYS active and taking in new information. If Miranjo was the same way, I would say she certainly would have aged mentally at least. But I don't think that's the case. We know the mirror has an "off" button so to speak; she isn't always in it. Now sure it's possible that she only does this to trick people into thinking the mirror isn't possessed. But in all seriousness I think if Miranjo had been conscious for 10 years straight with no dormant period, she would have gone WAY crazier than she did in canon. To not even be able to move around on her own, or go anywhere except the basement, or eat, or breathe, or smell? Girl would've gone bananas & I couldn't blame her. Like, yes she's kinda nuts in canon but she's not As Nuts as anyone who went through that would be.

The main thing I want to posit here is that Miranjo was probably downright in hibernation for most of the time she was in the mirror. What else was there for her to do? She wasn't seeing Apeas anymore, she wasn't ever in public either. Maybe Bosse struck up a chat with her once in a while just to make sure she was still in there, but the only other thing for her to do was Maybe wander around the basement with her hockeymask lackeys and set up the giant blender and shadow-corpse portal. No matter how you slice it, that isn't going to take 10 years.

Now, Daida looks to be about 5 or so when Bosse gives the mirror to him. I'm honestly inclined to guess even older. Hiling sniffed that mirror out like a bloodhound before, so the only reason she would be OK with it in her son's room is if she didn't even go in there often enough to see it. This means that for five years or so Miranjo was doting on Daida and setting him up. This was probably the period where she was conscious for the longest stretches of time, and considering that Daida was a very ambitious and involved prince, they may have spent no more that 10 solid minutes together on any given day.

All of this isn't to say of course that these years count for no time at all, but I do think people should keep in mind when discussing Miranjo's age how little she may have been "awake" at all.

Absolutely. Our discussion so far has explicitly involved Julia Serano, the academic that coined the term transmisogyny. In Serano's work, femme queer men are explicitly mentioned as targets of transmisogyny.

But femme queer guys are not perceived as "cutting their dicks off". They are misgendered to hurt them or based on misunderstandings, but they are not the intended target of concepts like autogynephilia or bathroom bills that involve the "male sexual predator" trope. The blogs of femme queer guys aren't mysteriously disappearing on this website. Femme queer guys don't get murdered with near the same amount of frequency by their romantic partners as trans women or non-binary transfem people do. That depends on cultural context.

In the United States, cis queer guys like the Log Cabin Republicans constantly get undermined by a form of conservatism that has been called the "Leopards eating people's faces party" or the "Death Cult". Similarly in countries that U.S. preachers have influenced, like Uganda, of where Victorian lawmakers have successfully influenced public perception of gay people, like Zimbabwe, there is rampant homophobia.

But even in a U.S. setting, you have people like the CEO of a social media site you are on right now while reading this saying that he has gay and lesbian and trans friends to defend from the accusation that a lot of transfem people are being terminated. Yes, non-transfem also got terminated...but only when they spoke up on behalf of transfems.

So queer femme guys are not exactly in the same hot water.

you are right that bathroom bills are often instituted with rhetoric suggesting that men are the problem -- Ted Cruz for example explicitly rejected the idea that trans women are the danger but then warned of cis male bathroom predators

But I've clarified this to other people asking about my post already: a few years ago there was an ironic incident where male lawmakers passed a bathroom bill and on the same day used the women's bathroom because the male bathroom was broken. More importantly, the idea of a man using a women's bathroom is in many places perceived as exceptional: he must have some reason, so best not to bother him as long as he is just going to the bathroom stall and acting normally. Even if he makes a habit of going to women's rooms, as long as he behaves himself, a lot of people (who will go aggro over trans women) will not say anything. But a "man in a dress" using a bathroom is assumed to be a pervert. A femme queer man might get in the same amount of trouble, but only if he is assumed to be a trans woman. Otherwise people may even perceive him as safe: perhaps this man, who wouldn't harass girls anyway, is accompanying a female friend? Or maybe he's hiding from the machos in the girls bathroom. People often have more understanding for that than for transfem people that they perceive as mentally delusional and sex-obsessed.

I know that cis drag queens worked for trans rights. Drag Queens were prime targets during the recent right-wing American backlash against drag events - them being cis did not make them less of a target in that instance

Crucially, Drag Queens are pursuing a hobby, they are not forced to detransition and are not documented by the state -- so they are in less danger than (a significant chunk of) the trans community is.

I have no idea if drag queens are as much a target to right-wingers as trans women are -- who is more oppressed is less important to me than that everyone's needs are taken care of.

Analysing Episode 6 Sylvie - her actions, her choice and a whole bunch of theories (Spoilers!)

After watching the Loki finale, I have been scrolling through Tumblr for quite a long time. I already knew that people's opinions were gonna be incredibly different but I definitely did not expect this much negative backlash. Especially when it comes to two specific topics - the Sylvie and Loki kiss and Sylvie's betrayal (/choice/actions). I'm gonna be talking about the latter, for it is another time I'll talk a lot about Sylki's relationship. (Beware that this post is also really long though)

First of all, everyone has different opinions and I respect that. I absolutely adore movies, books, TV-shows and videogames because despite what's happening within the story, each viewer has the opportunity to see something else in what they are shown (besides the obvious canon). What I mean is that everyone interprets certain scenes differently and gains the opportunity to make up theories. Therefore I want to clarify that I do, by no means, want to force my views upon others. It's nice to see people talk about the Loki Series (as long as it doesn't get too negative and hateful, iykwim) because every viewer can share their specific experiences with it :)

I'm gonna analyse Sylvie's character a bit ( because, well, I'm bored and I kinda wanna protect my beloved character that I've only had for a few weeks >:^0 AND the only thing I could think about the past day was this episode) and try to explain her actions in the finale (keep in mind: not justifying them, but explaining them).

I'm terribly bad at concentrating on one single topic point so I kinda made a 'list' with questions and whatnot that I wanted to dive deeper into. Your thoughts are also more than welcome!

I already want to apologise for grammatical mistakes, for I am not a native english speaker.

Sylvie's reason for being taken away by the TVA is still kinda unknown

You know, I've heard quite a few theories about Sylvie's nexus event by now. Some people say that she got taken away because she was playing with her toys in a way that indicates her having a good heart (playing as a Valkyrie and wanting to save someone, another hint may also be the reaction she showed towards someone else who got kidnapped by the TVA, yelling at the soldiers to "help them out"). Another theory is that she already knew she was adopted, unlike Loki who found out way later than her. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but we never got to hear the actual reason why Sylvie got kidnapped. Even Renslayer didn't say a word about it.

Now I'm gonna come up with yet another theory. What if Sylvie didn't really have a nexus event in the first place how we know it? In the final episode, Kang has said that he has planned out everything beforehand so both Loki and Sylvie would end up right in front of him. Did Kang's plan also possibly involve him getting killed by Sylvie? Hear me out: We don't actually know if the Kang we saw in episode 6 is the actual 'nice' Kang and not one of his evil variants. He has already talked about 'reincarnation', so who says that after ending the first universial war, Kang didn't reincarnate into someone with an unpure heart (aka, one of his evil variants)? That'd mean that the real Kang would have been killed and the Kang we've seen in the finale is actually an evil version that simply lied to both Loki and Sylvie. Besides that, we also don't know if Kang actually had that 'point' where he didn't know what would happen next. The show revolves a whole lot around trust, not only regarding the characters, but also the viewers. Who's to say that Kang said the truth? Maybe he planned it all out: He created the TVA, let Sylvie get kidnapped and therefore give her a reason to hunt after Kang, who in return could reincarnate if he got killed OR get killed and therefore give his other variants a possibility to conquer the universes yet again. Don't you think that it was kinda suspicious that Sylvie escaped so easily out of Renslayer's hands? The one person who's probably closest to Kang? (Even though, yes, she doesn't know who he is but Renslayer seems to play a very important role in his plan). What if the Kang we saw was the nice Kang though? Would he plan everything up to a point where another universial war would break out because he might know that there is indeed something/someone out there who could end it and therefore, possibly end Kang as a whole or create a new kind of system revolving around the universe? And therefore, get rid of the possibility of another universial war happening? Who knows. I am definitely overthinking and reaching at this point. One more thing that stood out to me while thinking about the episode again today (which kinda weighs more into my theory of Sylvie being a keypoint (or rather a puppet) in this plan): Kang has talked about his Tempad and that he knew that he would need it to have enough energy. But for what? Yes, his initial idea was to give it to Loki and Sylvie to rule over the TVA, but what if it was supposed to be used for another reason? Sylvie used it to transport Loki back to the TVA (though I kinda think he was accidentally transported to another timeline, hence the reactions of both Mobius and Hunter B-15) and therefore get rid of the only thing that could prevent Sylvie from killing Kang. The Tempad was used to secure Sylvie's path and therefore eradicated Kang's only option of safety. You can see the Tempad loosing it's glow after Kang was killed, possibly due to Kang himself being the origin of it's energy. But maybe, it only had enough energy for one specific action: getting rid of Kang's protection. I do think that Sylvie is now stuck at this place and somehow has to find a way back to Loki's reality. The Tempad clearly doesn't work anymore (at least in my opinion) and there was quite a long shot showing the Tempad up close, which is kinda suspicious tbh. Also, something regarding Sylvie's unanswered nexus event feels kinda odd to me, too.

My theory in conclusion: Sylvie (and Loki) are unconciously helping Kang with his plan (a big, big, BIG plan). They're his puppets, especially Sylvie, because she's the one who created the Multiverse to begin with. Think about Loki, who was said to be manipulated by Thanos in Avengers? It's basically the same train of thoughts.

Sylvie does not take Kang's offer into consideration

To be honest, this was something to be absolutely expected of her. Sylvie was kidnapped as a child, taken away from her home and family, and had to grow up in countless apocalypses where she could never form a real bond with anybody because she knew that those people were all going to die anyway. (Please don't judge me if I got that wrong, maybe I understood the next thing wrong? Idk, if so, I'm very sorry) She revealed that she was kidnapped way before Loki was even born (something I have to think about, too, because, if Loki is the actual Loki the other variants are based off, why did he exist after Sylvie? Wouldn't that make him a variant of Sylvie instead? Idk timelines and parallel universes are hard to understand for me :') I'm kinda stoopid ), therefore she must've had spent several decades of her life running away. She had no life at all. Her only goal was to bring down the TVA and whoever is behind it, driven by pure rage, seeking out revenge for stealing her life and basically forbidding her existence. And now that she has found said person, the only thing that'd be right for her character would be to go for the kill. As immoral as it may sound, it is the only thing that makes sense. And I am actually very happy that Sylvie's goals didn't change besides the fact that she did indeed soften up a little and has gotten someone really close to her. In contrary, it makes sense for Loki to do the exact opposite. His goals have changed. He does not act the way he did in Thor or Avengers anymore. He has found another goal for himself: to make Sylvie feel alright. He has had immense character growth and didn't take a chance to change his goals back in the Thor movies or in Avengers, (....maybe later in Thor: Ragnarok, kinda). This is exactly what I think might happen to Sylvie, too. She is at the beginning of her character arc. She doesn't take the chance to change her goal, but goes for her original goal instead. Said goal does not really have positive consequences (though, maybe it might have some? We're about to find out), which results in a so called 'negative character development', which Loki has already gone through. I think that Sylvie is gonna grow as a character in season 2 and get a positive character development in addition, just like Loki did. I highly doubt that she's gonna become the antagonist, it does not make sense at this point.

Why does she not take Kang's offer (besides her very obvious intention ofc)? That leads straight (or not so straight, pun intended) to the next thing I wanna talk about. Sylvie's distrust in everything and everyone. Besides not wanting to let other people go through what she has been gone through and wanting to let people have a free will, she also does not trust Kang with his offer of 'ruling' the timeline. And it might be because she also does not trust the one she'd be ruling with: Loki.

Why does Sylvie not trust Loki?

I don't even have a specific answer to that, except that Sylvie has an incredibly thick wall built up around her. Loki has always been portrayed as the one you should not trust because he's known for backstabbing people. Loki could have thought the same about Sylvie, but he didn't. Due to his character arc, he himself has learned to trust other people and tries to redeem himself with making himself a person others can trust (He may project that onto Sylvie, meaning that he puts his trust into a Loki variant and therefore in himself, too). You can connect that fact with both Sylvie and Mobius. They're both people who are incredibly important to Loki. He wants them to trust him. He openly told Sylvie about his mistakes and tells her that he's not that person anymore. Sylvie on the other hand does not trust that easily and is - in my opinion - a very important key regarding Loki's character development. It is incredibly hard for Sylvie to trust others (probably due to her trauma) and it therefore creates a very difficult situation for Loki, where he has to 'prove' himself as trustworthy. It's basically about 'trusting yourself' if you put it that way. It's something Loki has to learn about himself: not betraying the trust of others. Sylvie might have to learn something like this, too: learning to trust someone else. It's kinda like a two sided coin - one side is about putting trust in others, whereas the other is about gaining trust from others (and what you do with it). (Good) Relationships in general are always based off trust and honesty. So in order for them to be able to have healthy relationships with others and themselves, they have to learn about trust within themselves (I hope you understand my point, I got carried away, sorry). Loki started to trust Sylvie very easily (maybe because of love? Maybe because of something else? There are still a lot of unanswered questions) whereas Sylvie doesn't trust Loki very easily. Sylvie's character arc might (hopefully) carry on with this topic in the next season.

Was that kiss initiated due to emotional or practical reasons?

Kinda both, somehow. I do think that Sylvie used the kiss to her advantage but you can also clearly see how moved she is while hearing Loki's words. Facial expressions are insanely important when it comes to acting and both Tom and Sophia delivered perfectly. You might've already heard of the quote "The eyes tell more than words could ever say". Look at Sylvie's face when Loki tells her that he wants her to be okay. She is teary eyed, sighs even. She is indeed touched by his words and I strongly think that Sylvie also has non-platonic feelings for Loki, despite barely showing anything.

Both Sylvie and Loki are said to be people who can not trust others. They both have a vulnerable side though. Loki clearly showed that several times when with Sylvie (singing to her, the blanket scene, the comfort scene in the room of the timekeepers, the confession of wanting her to be okay) and is also shown incredibly vulnerable at the end of episode 6: there are several shots showing him, crying. Sure, we have already seen Loki cry a few times beforehand but this time, it's different. He cries because the one person he is the most vulnerable with doesn't trust him, and that does hurt like hell. By the way, if you look at the close-up shot of Sylvie after she yeeted Loki back into the TVA, you can see pain in her eyes, too. But that pain quickly shifts into rage and determination. Something that I have to admit was incredibly well executed by Sophia and the people who directed this shot. Sylvie does show her vulnerable side for a brief moment before putting up her walls again and reaching for her goal.

In conclusion: I think Sylvie initiated the kiss as an emotional response to Loki's words but also used it to distract him to be able to kick him back into the TVA at the same time. Keep in mind that it was because he was in her way of fullfilling her goal. She didn't want to kill or hurt him, so she sent him away instead. So, yes, I think the kiss had both emotional and practical intentions.

Did Sylvie betray Loki?

Even though it really felt like she betrayed him, she didn't. Let me tell you why:

Loki knew exactly what Sylvie was gonna do after reaching the person behind the TVA. Loki supported her all the way up until Kang suggested a deal to them, that's where Loki's and Sylvie's paths divided. Loki is a very smart character, he outsmarts a lot of Marvel characters and therefore I think it's very in character for him to consider one part of the deal and outweigh the pros and cons. Not because he wants the throne, no, but because he wants Sylvie to be okay. A universial war could lead to countless casualties - possibly those people close around him, so of course he would want to keep her safe through that decision. Making them both rulers over the TVA and the sacred timeline would probably guarantee a strong protection from several threats. Also, maybe he thought about the possibility of Sylvie regretting her decision (which she clearly did in the end) and wanted to protect her from even more emotional pain. But as we know, Sylvie's intention has always been laid out in front of her and it didn't change. Loki knew what choice she was going to make and merely tried to change her way - without being successfull.

I don't really know what to think about this scene though. To me, it doesn't meet the requirements of a 'betrayal' but at the same time it does feel like one. It's very difficult to explain :'D

Also, I've seen some people asking themselves how or if Loki will ever be able to forgive Sylvie for making her decision. Let me assure you one thing: he will forgive her. He has said it himself: "I know what you're feeling, I know what you're going through". He has been at Sylvie's point, too. Not only once, but several times already. He seems to have learned from his mistakes, Sylvie has yet to do so. ("I betrayed everyone I've ever loved" is a line to keep in mind now, too. Maybe it could even be projected onto Sylvie this time, because Loki is indeed very dear to her) If there's someone out there who can empathise with Sylvie the most, it is Loki.

Why would Sylvie straight up cause another Universial War?

As I already said. Sylvie's arc is a negative character arc. It does not end well and causes a lot of chaos. Think about Peter Quill in Infinity War and his rage moment on Titan. They could have had the infinity gauntlet way before but Peter got emotional (understandable) and therefore destroyed the chance of an early good ending. The same happened with Sylvie. Her decision was mostly emotional, but also practical on the other hand (giving people free will and freedom). She will face the consequences and I'm pretty sure she's gonna redeem herself and tries to help fix the big mess she has caused.

Sylvie's breakdown

Another scene that was absolutely brilliant was the scene after Sylvie has killed Kang. She backs off slowly and then slumps to the ground, breathing heavily (now that I think about it, I think she even started to cry). She has waited for this moment her whole life, but now that it's done, it kinda feels like she didn't exactly get what she needed. Hunter B-15 has already mentioned it before that Sylvie needs to hunt the person behind the TVA down, unlike Renslayer, who only wants to find out who it really is. Although Sylvie might have recognized that this wasn't everything she needed at this point. We already got to know that she didn't have a clue what to do after she's done with the TVA. She didn't have a goal beyond that. And now that she has reached the point where she is clueless, she might have recognized what she really needed beyond finishing her goal: friends, a life, literally anything that doesn't make her feel alone. And she literally just kicked that one thing away from her. Loki, the one person who has been closest to her and gave her the feeling of not being alone anymore, the feeling of having a friend (or someone more than a friend), has been pushed away by herself. I think that in this exact moment where she sinks to the ground she recognizes that not trusting Loki was a mistake this time and that revenge isn't enough to satisfy her forever.

But maybe that one thing that will satisfy her for a long time is something she's returning back to in season 2. I am so excited to see her again and find out more about Sylvie's character!
