Description: wasn't Yoongi the one that was supposed to give you flowers for no reason?
Genre: One-shot, Yoongi x f!reader, established relationship, fluff, Yoongi is literally the sweetest man alive (wbk)
WARNINGS: None, this idea came after seeing this really sweet like reddit post, it will be at the end of this post.
Word Count: 2.6k+
Ever since coming back from service, BTS’ comeback preparations had been nonstop. It was almost like their debut days, they started early and ended late, whether they were practicing the choreography for a new song or recording their parts again, or getting back into recording RUN BTS.
You and Yoongi had seen very little of each other, working almost opposite schedules with a Saturday or Sunday off sprinkled in where you would mostly sleep and catch up on what you had going on so far, having those little moments made all the time you missed him worth it, you loved them, it was how you were able to build your relationship in the first place.
You and him met when your best friend practically begged for you to come with her to a double date. Yoongi was the one you were paired with, and you connected almost instantly. You had so much in common, more specifically your mutual love for music and the art behind it, you had small dates where he would take you to his small studio space, he'd told you he was a trainee, and that he was set to debut soon with the guy your friend was on a date with.
A year later, the guy your friend dated didn't debut, but Yoongi did, and that's when the small gestures started, you were at every music show that you could be at, bought every album, and went to every showcase or small gig you could afford. Yoongi showed his gratitude in small ways, he would get you a single rose, or a small cheap necklace, or if he wanted to really treat you he'd save up and take you to a nice restaurant. And as his success grew he was able to give you more, although he wasn't one for extravagant gifts, he always gave you something that made you feel special.
Even whilst he was serving, at the end of each week when he came home he'd bring you flowers and your favorite food, you had never felt more loved.
And now that he was back, you wanted to show him just as much gratitude. He was working so hard to make their first comeback grandiose, and even if he was exhausted, he'd spend his days off spending his time with you only sleeping if you were accompanying him.
You decided to do something simple, you found a flower shop that did the most beautiful arrangements and you called, setting something up that you imagined Yoongi would like; they even gave you the choice to add some fruits, and what better for your boyfriend than to give him the absolute love of his life, tangerines. You hoped this would help him relax a bit, and feel your support even if you didn’t see each other much.
“Okay guys, why don’t you take five, hmm?” Sungdeuk announced to the room, the seven men and their backup dancers immediately heading for water or laying flat on the floor, the latter was Yoongi’s case.
“I said it in 2013 and I’ll say it again, I was told we would only rap, not dance,” Yoongi’s breathing was heavy as he spoke, causing his hyung and Jungkook who were laying on the floor to laugh. “This is good for you hyungs, at your old age you need to exercise to keep your joints healthy,” the maknae giggled, followed by chuckles and laughter around the room from their members and some of the dancers.
“Yah!” Jin yelled as he smacked Jungkook in the back of the neck.
“Yoongi-ssi!” he sat up as he heard their manager’s voice from the practice room door, “come to my office please,” Yoongi nodded, carefully standing up from his spot on the floor, softly kicking Jungkook after he loudly announced he was in trouble.
Yoongi giggled at the the whole thing, his mind slowly making his way back to you, he didn’t have to record anything today, maybe he’d go to his studio later and call you, yeah, that’s what he would do, they were told they wouldn’t be here till midnight today, and that they could sleep in tomorrow before they had to do some photoshoots for their upcoming album, so that meant he could get home before you did and make you dinner. You worked as a nurse, and unfortunately had been assigned 12-hour shifts the past couple of months; going into work at noon and getting out at midnight, by the time you got home and ready for bed, Yoongi would arrive, exhausted, but he still would want to at least have small conversation, your relationship was built with communication, and he wasn’t one to disregard it.
He met the man at the door and followed him to the elevator, reaching the floor where the offices were, they made it to his quickly, where Yoongi’s eyes almost popped out of his sockets when he noticed a medium-sized vase with a beautiful arrangement of flowers and small basket of tangerines. A little white piece of paper stuck out in the middle of all the flowers, Yoongi opened and he smiled so wide.
From Yn, just because. I love you ♡
“As you can tell, they are for you,” the manager chuckled humorously, “you better not fuck it up with her Yoongi-ssi,” he said candidly.
“I haven’t fucked up in 10 years, I don’t plan on starting now,” he kept re-reading your note, he thought your handwriting was beautiful, even when you didn’t.
When he made it back to the practice room with his flowers and tangerines his members immediately started teasing him, especially Jungkook. “Look at our hyung with his flowers! And they say chivalry is dead,” he would say, “yeah hyung, I thought you’re the one that’s meant to get her flowers?” Taehyung added, grabbing him by shoulders and ruffling his hair.
“Yah! Stop it, Ynie is sweet for doing this, don’t see how Yoongi hyung’s face is about to split into two?” Namjoon pointed out smiling, his dimples showing proudly.
They had lived together for 13 years after all, all Namjoon wanted was for his hyung to be happy, and the fact that you did that for him had his heart swelling with warmth. You were so good for Yoongi.
“I need you guys to talk me off of running to the jewelry store and getting her a ring,” the room went silent.
“You don’t have one already?!” Hobi piped up, smacking his shoulder, his good shoulder. Yoongi shook his head.
The guys look at each other, and then at Sungdeuk, “I don’t think no one’s going to talk you off of it Yoongi-ah, in fact, I think everyone should take the rest of the afternoon off,” he announced loudly, “you six, please help him set up,” he asked the other members who immediately pulled the cat-eyed man, grabbing all their stuff, including the flowers and tangerines, and headed out to prepare.
It was 8pm
They had made it to the jeweler just in time, they were lucky he owed Jimin a favor, otherwise Yoongi would’ve had to wait, and he sincerely didn’t think he could.
You guys had started talking more seriously about marriage about 5 years into your relationship, mainly because you had started to feel scared that with idol life, Yoongi would enjoy not being entirely tied down to a person. Thankfully that wasn't the case, and he'd promised you, when the time was right, he would get down on one knee.
He wasn't sure why it took him 10 years to come through with that promise.
Yoongi was grateful for your late nights of conversation after that, every so often you would have little YouTube marathons that would start with alcohol reviews and end in proposals, and he had remembered every comment you made about those rings, he’d also remembered the comments you’d made when one of your friends got engaged. He was able to find a beautiful ring, something he knew you’d like. His members helped get all the materials he needed, as they rushed to your shared apartment and started decorating the place, Yoongi and Jin cooked whilst the rest added finishing touches, at some point Jungkook went and got his camera, stating he’d be the one to stay so he could capture the moment.
Yoongi could complain about the maknae all he wanted, but there was no one as loyal and dedicated to his friends as him.
It was 11:30pm when they were finished, Jungkook and Yoongi were saying goodbye to the others as they made their way into the car they would have to share back to the HYBE building so they could get their own vehicles, they had all ran around in Yoongi’s car, a medium-sized SUV that barely fit all of them, but they managed.
“I call shotgun! I deserve it after going in hyung’s trunk,” Jimin ran after he had said his goodbyes, with Taehyung following closely behind as he whined about him getting shotgun, the rest walked away at a normal pace, not eager to deal with the soulmates and the game of rock-paper-scissors that they would certainly be playing.
Yoongi was pacing around, it was 12:48am now, you’d be home any minute now, Jungkook had hid behind the black sectional in your living room, thankful you had left some space between it and your wall due to the heating system. Yoongi started serving dinner, he’d kept it as warm as he could so that you could enjoy a warm meal before he asked what he believed to be one of the most important questions of your lives.
He heard the digital ping of you punching in the door code and he knew there was no backing out now.
You opened the door to find your house lit by small candles, your dining room table set up with your good plate set, and the flowers you had sent Yoongi as a centerpiece.
“Hi baby,” Yoongi smiled widely as approached you, kissing your lips softly, as if he was savoring you, “hey,” you sighed as he pulled away, as always he took your breath away, “did I miss an important day? Our anniversary has already passed, hasn't it?” you went through the different options nervously, and Yoongi could only chuckle at your silly concerns.
“No baby, I just wanted to thank you for the flowers,” he explained, taking your jacket off and grabbing your bag, putting them both away. You took off your shoes and slipped on your home one on, walking hand in hand with your boyfriend.
He pulled a chair out for you, you whispered a thank you and sat down; Yoongi left a kiss on your hair and went to sit down himself. He’d cooked your favorite meal, you both started eating, it was a comfortable silence at first, which you broke when Yoongi sat up to clean your dishes after you were both done. “How early did they let you all out for you to have pulled this off?” you asked him, supporting your chin on your fist as you watched him.
“Maybe…8:30?”
Your mouth dropped, he’d invested this much time to thank you for something so simple like flowers? You truly didn’t deserve him. Once he was done, he scrolled through his phone a bit, selecting one of the songs on the 3rd CD of Proof, he walked toward you and held out his hand, you recognized “Quotation Mark” almost immediately.
“We’re planning on making it a full group song,” Yoongi explained as he spun you around, making you giggle, how he wished to hear that sound forever.
And maybe, after tonight he would.
He danced around you, because truly they were planning on making it an OT7 song, and there was this bit of the choreo he had added for the purpose of what his plans were tonight. He truly hoped Jungkook was recording this, if you said yes like he hoped you would, he wanted to rewatch this every day until you were married, and eventually show it to your children. Here it came, the part that he’d be taking over once the song was done, the first half of Hobi’s rap was perfect for this.
“...Today, I make sure to throw my heart to you first, a safe landing with you, the catcher,” He got down one knee, pulling out the small velvety box from his pocket, you hands immediately covering your nose and mouth in shock, your eyes filled with tears as the song went on, Yoongi had stopped after he found himself tearing up.
“I’ve always known you were the one for me, you’ve been with me when I was nobody and when success came, you kept me humble, you kept my feet on the ground whilst being one of my biggest support systems. I told you when the time came, I’d get down on one knee, and your kind gesture today was what tied it all together for me, I don’t care if people think it’s not that big of a deal, it was to me.” your chuckled mixed with your sobs, “I want to be able to hear you giggle every day, and selfish as it maybe, I want you to be mine forever, would you marry me, Ynie?” the words left his mouth miraculously, as he was fully sobbing now.
Did your small gesture truly lead him to such a big decision? To join your lives as one was something you had dreamed of for a while, hell recently you’d had a dream of yourself and Yoongi dancing in what felt like cloud, with a beautiful white dress and him in one of those suits that made him look like absolute prince, you could only assume you dreamt of your wedding day.
“Baby my heart’s about to fall out of my ass please say yes,” he chuckled nervously, bringing you out of your thoughts. Poor guy, he’s probably watching you watch him and he’s thinking the worst.
“I’d like nothing more,” you thought Yoongi’s face would split in two, he wrapped his arms around your waist and pulled you in for a tight hug “and I promise to send you pretty flowers and tangerines every chance I get, for the rest of our lives,” you whispered. Yoongi couldn’t help himself, pulling away slightly so he could give you the kiss of a lifetime, he knew how much you love his lips.
“She didn’t say no hyungs!” You heard Jungkook’s distinct giggle and muffled cheers.
“You FaceTimed them?!” Yoongi whined, hiding his face in the crook of your neck. His dongsaeng walked out of his hiding spot, camera in one hand phone on another hand, “I thought you were recording with it!”
“I was recording with my Samsung, you know when you post this video they’ll want to see that,” the younger rolled his eyes, bringing the camera over so you could see the pictures.
“I wish I wasn’t wearing scrubs for this,” you complained, thanking your lucky stars there was no puking or excess of blood spilled on you tonight.
“You could’ve worn a burlap sack and Yoongi hyung would still think you’re the most gorgeous person alive noona,” Jungkook laughed, causing your fiancé to blush intensely. And between the guys congratulating you and Yoongi actually putting the ring on your finger, it really hit you that he was now your fiancé, and that your biggest dream had come true.
Your life would have a never ending amount of love, laughter and chaos, and you wouldn’t want anything else when it came to Yoongi.
A/N:
Hello! Sorry this took so long to get to you! I had a plan for this and when I saw this particular like reddit story thing I just NEEDED to do it with Yoongi. I hope y'all like it!

Get to Know the Writer Questionnaire
Taking the open tags from @the-golden-comet here and @illarian-rambling here!
Rules: answer the questions!
Basics
How long have you had your writing Tumblr/Writeblr? A fast and loose estimate is fine!
I think it was November of 2022.
What led you to create it?
Twitter was going down so I moved elsewhere.
What’s your favorite thing about the Writeblr community?
The engagement and overall positivity! I was surprised how welcoming everyone was, and how touched I was when people gave compliments and how excited I was when people expressed interest!
What’s one thing you’d like your mutuals to know about you?
Well I'm always open to chat about whatever though I do have mild social anxiety. I'm always hyper analyzing whether I did something wrong or whatever. So if I come across as awkward I'm trying my best but I am always being genuine!
Is there anything you’d like to see more of on your dash?
Hm. This is a hard one. I guess I just wish I saw more interaction and engagement in people's work? Idk, it's always there, and I love seeing it, but having full conversations about each other's OCs and WIPs aren't as common. So idk more of that!
WIPs
Which WIPs or writing projects are you noodling about, lately?
Mainly I'm working on TSP but occasionally I'll dip my toes into SOTL again. Whenever I get an idea for a side project I barely have anything for, I'll write it down and get obsessed with it for a while.
And I also have a side project where I write reviews and analyses of TV shows or movies but I haven't gone back to it in a while despite having live notes of several movies and TV episodes in drafts.
How long have you been working on them?
TSP - spring of 2013, technically
SOTL - first came into my brain I think 2014-2015 but the first draft was 2015-2016
The first media analyses I wrote were in 2019 I think.
Do you remember what inspired them/what got you started?
TSP - I liked fairies as a kid due to the Rainbow Magic series, but thought I was too old for fairies so when I was assigned to write a fictional story I wrote about kids with powers
SOTL - I loved different takes on fairy tales due to The Land of Stories and wanted to write my own
Analyses - getting Disney+ because I unironically had always wanted to review every single Disney movie so I did. It extended after I watched two seasons of DC's Titans (the live action one) and I hated it so much I shat out 10k+ words in a single fever driven day
How much time, in your best estimation, do you spend thinking about them?
Pretty often, I'd think, unless I'm deep in a hyperfixation stage of an existing show.
When someone asks the dreaded, “What do you write about,” question, what do you usually say?
"Fantasy mostly."
Name any characters you created. Side characters, protagonists, antagonists, characters who’ve never been written, the first original abomination you ever pulled from your ass; whomever you’d like!
For TSP the characters I've put any effort into characterizing include: Lexi Morgan, Maddie Morgan, Ash Hathaway, Gwen Amante, Noelle Bishop, Rose Hernandez, Kelsey Newman, Robbie Stafford, Akash Singh, Jedi Moon, Carmen Asghar, Carla Baxter, George Baxter, Liam Beaumont, Ewan Traeger, Jazlyn Nyambura, Wade Attwood, Parker Cassidy, Tyler Nakashima, Gabriel Medina, Niri Shyaka, Sam Stafford, Hye-Jin Song, Alex Vaughn, Issa Johansen, CJ Reynolds, Wendy Amante, Anathi Makeba, Teo Nguyen, Xitlali Zepahua, Atsila McLain, and Raissa Kamanzi. Everyone else is insignificant.
For SOTL, I have so many OCs I have no idea who the relevant ones will be. So far, the most are Jack McDonald, Tierney Wayne, Úrsula Lobo, Beau Bellerose, and Bai Xue. Again, so far. I have so many characters for this it's not even funny.
And then there's the others from my other works but I'll stop there.
Who’s the most unhinged?
I'm not entirely sure who's the most. Parker is the most chaotic but Carmen is just the character, y'know? Jack I give whoever I want and Zainab of SOTL is pretty insane.
Who comes the most naturally for you to write?
Probably Robbie, honestly. The way his brain works and goes on random tangents is very similar to me. He's like if I was extraverted sometimes.
Do you ever cringe at them?
All the time.
How much control do you feel you have over your characters? AKA, do they ever “write themselves,” refuse to cooperate, or do things you didn’t expect? To what degree? Are some less cooperative than others?
I only have minimum control. I decide what to do with them but then they say "how about this instead?" And I listen to them all the time. Ash is the most uncooperative one, though. But Noelle has been given me trouble recently. She's told me I need to change her role in Part One. It's frustrating. But awesome.
Interaction
Do you enjoy people asking questions about your characters? And do you have a preferred means of receiving said questions? For example, as Asks, as replies, as reblogs, as tag notes, as comments on AO3, etc.
YES YES YES YES YES YES YES I love questions about my characters!! And no I don't have a preference, although AO3 would be hard because I don't have an account. Any way of interacting with me that you can, I love to hear the comments!
What makes you want to follow another Writeblr account? Do you follow ‘em as you see ‘em, or take time scoping out the blog to make sure you align with its content? Do you follow based on WIPs, or vibes? What makes you decide against following?
I do check the bio and scroll through their blog to see if there's anything I don't like or stands out as stuff. Sometimes it's a writeblr in the bio but I don't see any WIP posting so I don't follow.
Do you interact with non-mutuals often?
Yep! Constantly. Sometimes I forget people aren't mutuals.
Do your mutuals’ characters occupy space in your noodle?
Honestly @illarian-rambling's characters are amazing and I finished her manuscript of Mortal God for beta reading and it was awesome.
Tagging @elsie-writes @mk-writes-stuff @leahnardo-da-veggie @mysticstarlightduck @drchenquill

1. Hello! Me again, thanks so much for the past help!! I was wondering if you’d help me one more time? I’ve been searching for another specific fic for the last three weeks and no matter the tag combos I can’t seem to find it. Essentially: it’s a one-shot where WWX is having a sort of flashback into being at the burial mounds and hallucinating lan Wanji and Jiang cheng speaking to him. He reveals some things about the three months in the BM, but in the end it turns out he wasn’t actually at there and they where trying to get him out of being influenced by resentful energy. Also lan suzhi is there at the end to help too. If you could help that’d be amazing! @spacy-thoughts

B) An au from a k-drama that I forgot the title of in which wwx(not him but I aint gonna spoil) accidentally run over a pregnant mxy that ended up in the death of him and the baby, lwj was the baby daddy and decided to have his revenge.

I’m looking for a fic that was a modern setting, wangxian friends with benefits, only it was more like enemies with benefits bc lan zhan was dead set on not catching feelings for him and he hated that he was starting to. i remember that it opened on a sex scene but that was as far as I got! please help!!!

6. Hi! I'm looking for a fic where Wei Wuxian wakes up in Lotus Pier after being injured on a nighthunt (?) that he went on with Lan Wangji and he finds out from Jiang Cheng and Jiang Yanli that Lan Wangji has died.
However, we later on find out that Lan Wangji is not actually dead but instead someone sent false letters to Jiang Cheng and Lan Xichen. The letter Jiang Cheng received had said that Lan Wangji had died and the letter Lan Xichen had received had said that Wei Wuxian had died. So somebody purposefully made Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji think that the other was dead.
I believe there was also a part in the fic where some guy at Lotus Pier kept calling Wei Wuxian 'Wei Ying' and Wei Wuxian kept telling him to stop because only Lan Wangji was allowed to call him that but the guy did it again and Wei Wuxian snapped.
Thank you for your help!
~*~
7. I’m looking for a similar story to one somebody asked two fic finders ago but this one has a little twist
Is a fic where JC managed to wish WWX out of existence (I think it was with an array) and JC and LWJ are the only ones who remember WWX, LWJ tries to confront JC about it but JC won’t tell him how he did it, things happen (I think SSC) and JC needs WWX again, so he asks LWJ to help him bring Wei Ying back, they bring him back and so the story continues
FOUND? The Way It Wasn't by KouriArashi (T, 72k, WangXian, XiYao, Canon Divergence, Angst with a Happy Ending, Fix-It, (eventually haha), Slow Build, Family Feels, Moral Ambiguity, Eventual Happy Ending)
FOUND? Not This Time by Marinelifeclub (M, 93k, WIP, WangXian, SangNing, NieLan, Canon Divergence, Time Travel, Angst, Dark LWJ, Protective LWJ, YLLZ WWX, Resentful WWX, Established Relationship, POV Alternating, Sunshot Campaign, Hurt/Comfort, Eventual Smut, Minor XuanLi, not for jc fans, eventual 3zun, Kid Fic)
~*~
8. I am absolutely boggled trying to find this fic that I *thought* I'd downloaded onto my reader. Was reminded of it recently by another user who was looking. Basically, it's a modern wangxian AU, where WWX reappears after X time gone/cloud hanging over his head bc of something ppl thought he causes and the Jiang sibs who are some sort of celebs (models? actors?) help him (as does LWJ.) I remember a pool scene where all were hanging out & performing normalcy while press were milling about. @thelima
FOUND! so hot out the box (can we pick up the pace) by sami (E, 20k, XiCheng, WangXian, NHS/JZX, QingLi, Modern AU, Enemies to Lovers, Thirsting, Pining, mostly thirst and dick jokes, a little smut)

9. Hola! Hope you guys are doing well. This request is for the FicFinder.
I don't remember much, but I think WWX was a Lan probably? There was a scene that I remember: during a lecture in Hanshi, LQR was talking about always being prepared or something like that. It was a topic on talismans I think? So Jin Zixun or someone like that said something about talisman being cheap trick and as cultivators, they don't have much use of it or something? Then LQR asked WWX to show how many talisman he carries on him normally (like everytime everywhere) and the later pulls out bundles after bundles of talisman. Then he's says something like : this is the normal I carry with me every moment. If it's a night hunt, I carry much more than this. @utxqia
FOUND! From the Warm Sun by sunshine_sparrow (T, 58k, WangXian, CSSR & WWX, CSSR & LQR, Discussion of Rape, Period-Typical Sexism, Mostly CQL but probably some MDZS too, Cángsè Sǎnrén Lives, Madam Lán Lives, Qingheng-jun lives, But WCZ Still Dies, Fix-It, Happy Ending, All Soft and Very Little Angst, the wens live, Yīn Iron, Good Person MY, Good Person LQR)
~*~
10. I’m looking for a dimension travel fix where Wei Wuxian is a doctor/engineer in his OG modern dimension but his life goes downhill. He gets transported into a dimension a lot like MDZS time, where cultivation exists and the old Wei Whxian was evil and despised. He doesn’t know Lan Wangji, but over time they fall in love. It’s kind of a time-travel/fix-it in one.
FOUND? Transverse by Kytrin, Mslead (E, 192k, WangXian, ChengSang, ZhuiLing, ZhenYi, Canon-Typical Violence, Dimension Travel, Implied/Referenced Rape/Non-con, Enemies to Lovers, Transmigration, Past Lives, Canon-Typical Death, Don't worry - he gets better) although im not 100% on that since i havent read it, i just scrolled through the "dimension travel" tag for a few minutes lol

11. hello, my lieges. once again, i am looking for this fic where wwx rates sex toys and lwj sends him a lot and he's the only one who got five stars. thank you kindly
FOUND! This Ain’t a Stream (It’s a Goddamn Arms Race) by feenwitch (E, 5k, WangXian, Modern AU, Getting Together, Pornstars)

🦁📰 Kim Junghyun’s reflections on his acting career, personal challenges, and future goals.
"...if you work until you die..." Kim Junghyun Dreams of Acting
Reporter Park Hae Jin [ⓓ인터뷰] "죽을 때까지 노력하면"...김정현이 꿈꾸는 연기 | 디스패치 | 뉴스는 팩트다! (dispatch.co.kr)
Kim Junghyun is a natural born actor. I knew it the moment I met him. There wasn't the smirking Gu Seungjun of <Crash Landing on You> or the cranky Cheon Suho of <Time>.
Instead, there was the serious Kim Junghyun. When I realized that his characters were strictly acting, and when he spoke of his confidence in acting, I thought to myself.
'This is someone who should be an actor.'
I asked him why he became an actor. He gave a simple answer.
"I enjoy the moment of acting. I'm happy to be able to act, it makes me hopeful."
Kim Junghyun made his presence felt in tvN's <Crash Landing on You>. He made viewers laugh and cry with his hateful yet lovable, cheerful yet heartbreaking performance.
He kept the center of attention among the big actors. No matter who he was paired with, there was no awkwardness. He created narrative and chemistry with each of them.
Kim Junghyun, who on earth is this actor?
Dreaming of being an 'actor'
Actually, Kim Junghyun is a late bloomer*. In 2012, he made his screen debut in the short film <I'll Be with You>.
[*T/N: humble beginnings, but great endings]
Since then, he's been acting wherever he can. Theaters, musicals, movies, and dramas. He doesn't discriminate between genres.
"I saw the play <In the Smoke> and it made me want to be an actor. I cried a lot, and that's when I realized that I had the question mark (in my mind), which made me think about acting again."
Your acting career also started with theater. In 2013, you first appeared on the theater stage in <Thérèse Raquin>. But wait, what is the 'question mark' in your mind?
"I realized that acting is a precious thing where you can give and receive emotions from people. The idea of sharing new experiences was fascinating to me."
That's when he started to pursue acting in earnest.
Everybody has ups and downs
In 2015, he made his professional debut with movie <Overman> and was recognized by critics. He continued to gain recognition with each work, making his mark with <Jealousy Incarnate>, <Rebel>, <School 2017>, and more.
But there were also bumps in the road. When he dropped out of <Time> due to a sleep disorder and eating disorder, he was criticized for it.
"I felt like I neglected myself. It was a time of deceiving, betraying, and beating myself up. I stopped loving myself. My self-esteem dropped, and my anxiety grew."
He didn't want to fall apart. He dropped everything and went back to the beginning. "I spent a year and five months recovering my body and mind. I've built a lot of mental muscle* as an actor."
[*T/N: willpower; perseverance, judgment, system of thought, exploration, impulse control, goal setting, and other mental traits]
It was acting, after all, that got him back on his feet.
"I always had the desire to act (in my heart). I had a lot of desire to work."
Acting became more precious to him during his break. "I became more focused on the present moment and enjoying it. I'm in a better state of mind to look at my surroundings."
Crash Landing on You
He put his heartfelt feelings into <Crash Landing on You>. Whether it was a lead role or a supporting role, it didn't matter. For Kim Junghyun, it weighed the same. He was grateful to just be able to act.
"I tried to enjoy the moment of acting, no matter if I was on set or reading the script, because I know it's important to do my best with what I can do now."
Kim Junghyun plays Gu Seungjun, a fraudster. His (life's) purpose is money and revenge. He didn't have the love of his parents. However, he was a pure man in front of love. He's a character with a wide range of emotions.
"The most important thing was to maintain the position. I thought that if North Korea had Pyo Chisoo (played by Yang Kyungwon) and the crew, Seungjun should create that atmosphere in South Korea."
Kim Junghyun slept with the script by his bedside. He studied the script until he closed his eyes, and then acted it out; a not too serious, yet hilarious Seungjun.
He had his own way of speaking the North Korean dialect. "The dialect changes depending on the interpretation of the lines, and I just caught the nuances and put them into Seungjun's words."
The acting in <Crash Landing on You>
He gave the four-angle romance three-dimensional feel*. Though he didn't have much screen time, his acting was dynamic. It even captured the growth of one character.
[*T/N: given depth and realism; the acting has a realistic and deep feeling.]
"The writer did a good job of showing the inflection points of growth. Seungjun gave Seri (played by Son Yejin) a certain intentionality, and gave Dan (played by Seo Jihye) a more humanized approach. There was a clear temperature difference."
The crying scene in episode 15, for instance. When North Korean children sing, 'I'm a poor orphan,’ Seungjun sobs to himself. It's the first time his inner self comes out.
"The situation of being chased by danger, being alone in a hiding place... I was thinking about how Seungjun must have felt in that place. My heart ached a lot. I realized that he must have been desperate."
Kim Junghyun had his own input. "I wanted Seungjun to show emotion in this scene, and I thought it would be a turning point in his life."
The same goes for the shooting scene in which he jokingly says, ‘I did some clay shooting in South Korea.’ The scene is even more poignant because he did it with a light chuckle. This was also Junghyun's idea.
"It felt right. My primary purpose was to reassure Dan. I was thinking about her right up until the moment I died. I remember that."
Revisiting the 'actor' dream
There is a certain ease to his performance. He is quick but relaxed, he is light but has weight. What makes him so flexible is his unwavering effort (to act).
"It's like a swan on a lake, you need to paddle your legs vigorously to look relaxed. Even when you're acting, the action is (actually) going on inside."
"I ask myself, 'what keywords is this line influenced by?' or 'what purpose is it serving?' When you have a clear idea, you're less likely to get stuck (in practice)."
When asked about his next project, he said, "I haven't decided on a stage (to act), be it a movie, a drama, or a theater. I would love to get together with some of my favorite people and do some performances."
Recently, he's been studying English for two reasons: acting and writing. "If I get better at English, there will be more works that I can come across, and I want to experience and convey various kinds of acting."
However, Kim Junghyun has only completed one (series) episode. He plans to follow the path he's been given without hesitation. Once again, he's dreaming of becoming an actor.
"I see where I'm still lacking, and I have a desire to grow, rather than just run in circles. I'm eager to share new experiences in any conversational way I can."
And one last thing.
"If you work until you die, won't you be able to fulfill that dream?"
ㅡㅡㅡ

K-pop Discography Deep Dives: BTS (Part ONE)
A Disclaimer: I was planning, when I first started Tumblr, to be a lurker, but then I began an office job and needed something to listen to to keep myself occupied. And then, I started going through entire K-pop groups’ repertoires, album by album, and jotting down my thoughts. And then, I stumbled into K-pop tumblr and decided, you know what, there’s at least four people on this hell site who would read in depth rants about these discographies and at least five who wouldn’t read it and then get mad because it’s kind of our job as K-pop fans. My lukewarm takes should be taken with an entire silo of salt and the knowledge that this is completely for fun and occupying my very bored, very neurodivergent brain. All this to say, for the love of god, I’m a sleep-deprived student and I don’t have time for internet hate, so don’t kill me. With that being said, enjoy!
So, my credentials: I’ve got nothing this time, folks. I’m not an Army; I’m too casual to even be a casual fan. I like most of what I’ve heard, based on friend recommendations, but I have no idea how representative of their work the songs I’ve heard are. I know the group members’ names, but barely anything about them, although I’m always open to learning more. The reason I wanted to do this deep dive is because I’ve been a k-pop fan for almost five years now and I’ve heard every opinion between “BTS is the second coming of Christ” and “BTS is responsible for the collapse of society,” and I want to make up my own mind, free of influence.
Since BTS has over 200 songs, I’m also doing short supplementals each week, both to give myself and you guys a break and to look at groups / soloists with discographies too short to need a full week (because this is gonna be a dissertation and I’ll have to separate it into two parts). So, grab your lightstick, get some ice cream, steal a fluffy dog, and settle in folks. Let’s do this.
BTS, as you probably know, is short for Bangtan Sonyeondan, or Bulletproof Boy Scouts, and debuted in 2013 (they just had their tenth debut anniversary) and they have seven members: Jimin, Namjoon (RM), Taehyung (V), Jin, Yoongi (SUGA), Jungkook, and Hoseok (J-hope).
First things first, I love a good intro, and the loudspeaker is funny; 2 cool 4 skool is not what I was expecting. I’m not the biggest fan of “I’m too cool for you” hip-hop personally, but I can respect We Are Bulletproof (p.2) for the fact that the message doesn’t feel empty. I believe what they’re selling, even if I don’t want to buy it. To be honest, I’m a singer, and I listen to artists to hear their singing voices, because I know that they can sing beautifully.
On the album I’m much more a fan of Like, although I prefer the slow mix from their later work. The rest of the first album gave me a bit of whiplash to be honest, but I can appreciate how unique it is, both in k-pop and music as a whole. The skits are very odd, but they did make me feel like I know more about the members than I would about an average k-pop group from their album; I can see why so many people became fans early on.
On O! R U L8 2?, N.O. immediately caught my attention with the interesting instrumental and the sing-talk and singing combo. I did enjoy it more than We Are Bulletproof, because of the melody, but I liked it, didn’t love it. (I could’ve done without the growling). Most of the b-sides aren’t for me, but I do want to talk about Coffee and Paldongangsan.
I did like Coffee (especially the harmonizing on the Baby~~ part of the chorus) but I really didn’t like the rap verses. I don’t have anything against them being there in theory; raps can be done in a quiet, calm way (like in “Child” by Mark from NCT), but it’s not happening here and they feel very out of place. It’s all well and good to rap excellently, but you need to have some variety or else everything threatens to feel the same.
But, my hidden gem from this album is definitely Paldongangsan. Look, one of my majors is linguistics, so it’s no surprise I went wild at this song. It’s about the different dialects of Korean (which originate from different places there) and the stereotypes associated with each one, and it ends with Namjoon yelling at the rest of them to stop ragging on each other for their dialects and be accepting because it’s all the same language anyway. It was actually the first BTS song I heard, about two years ago (barring Dynamite, of course), because an Army friend of mine recommended it to me. I’ve never heard a song like it before (or since for that matter) and it’s remained on my Top 25 K-pop songs playlist ever since.
Anyway, digression over, and onto the next album, Skool Luv Affair. Boy In Luv is definitely a turning point in their discography, with its drive and rock elements. I wish it was more melodic, as I always do, but it grew on me after a couple more listens and it's my favorite of the title tracks so far. Hidden gems for this album are Just One Day and especially Outro: Propose (which I wish wasn’t so short, because I thought it was pretty good.)
With Dark & Wild we turn another corner. Danger intrigued me from the first part’s guitar riff and interesting instrumental. Although I was a bit wary, the set-up of the pre-chorus, pay-off of the chorus, and earworm of the post-chorus reassured me. It’s the first single from this deep dive that I’ve liked on 1st listen. (The “don’t get me confused” is stuck in my head now.)
War Of Hormone arrives with a record scratch and a bombast of horns. And arrives is the right word: it makes its presence known. I really enjoyed this one, and I even replayed it a few times. At its best moments, it mixes very different parts together without feeling like whiplash and becomes anthemic. I especially love the contrast between Namjoon’s scratchier, lower voice and Jungkook’s higher notes, and of course, harmonizing, my one true love. It’s a bit of a dumb song but they don’t take it too seriously and I appreciate that they aren’t afraid to laugh.
This album was also a turning point for me when it came to my enjoyment of their work; I didn’t really dislike any song on it and the better balance of rapping, sing-talk, and singing made me less reactionary towards the raps that were there. There’s more variety in the raps themselves too: sometimes they’re upbeat, sometimes they’re pensive, sometimes they’re angry, but they don’t all sound like they’re trying to kill me through my earbuds. Improvement! Also, showing some vulnerability helps balance the more boastful songs that are there, so I disliked those less too.
Yes, I’m fully aware that their rapping is technically very good, I just don’t always enjoy it. I appreciate songs like Hip Hop Phile and their meanings, but appreciation still can’t make you like something that you don’t like. As for what I did like, my hidden gems for this album were Let Me Know (which finally lets them sing and be open with their feelings), Could You Turn Off Your Cellphone (harmonizing again), and Look Here (very odd but I enjoy the horns).
I Need U is surprisingly calm in its intro and is very much poppier than the last few title tracks have been, with more of an anguished edge than a youthful “I’m cooler than you” edge, which I appreciated. I liked this one. It’s much better at balancing the harmonizing with rap and the instrumental (which is very interesting, by the way) than the previous songs, and I can see how it sets them on the path after that leads to their more melancholy and contemplative title tracks further down the line.
Run works as a good foil; it’s pretty upbeat, which does make sense given that it’s (somewhat) a love song. I love the way the chorus surges forward and even though it’s poppier than the others, it doesn’t feel like they’ve lost their identity. It still feels like a BTS song, basically. It’ll probably be making an appearance on my gym playlist, which is never a bad thing.
As a side note, I love that so many of their songs embrace the idea of full pre-choruses, choruses, and post-choruses, because it makes each track feel more intentional and lived in, not like they’re trying to fill space on an album or have empty space. In the k-pop songs that are on my top 25 (of which two are BTS), this holds true for the vast majority of them.
Dope is a song that, like War Of Hormone, feels like it arrives, not begins, with its “Ladies and gentlemen”, and I love the build-up that it has leading to the chorus. But…it just doesn’t have enough payoff to that build-up for me, with an empty, shouty chorus and more lyrics about how great they are. I know a lot of people love it, but it has too many of my pet peeves to get past. Sorry, guys.
In the same vein, I should like Fire. I love an explosion of a chorus and I adore a song about burning down the system as much as the next witch. I love the lyrics, and I think that pre-choruses are good and the bridge especially is great. But I don’t like this song. At all. It comes dangerously close to grating one too many times for me, and embraces all of the worst aspects of their early material with none of the charm that had me chuckling with, not at, the first few albums. I’ve mentioned many times how much I hate an anti-drop and this song does absolutely nothing to change my mind. I expect the cursing to the heavens to come in in about 3…2…1…
Save Me is the last single from the album, and the most similar to the BTS songs I’ve heard before: ethereal, wispy, ruminating, and with a soft electronic background. I do like this one, although I wish the last chorus had more of an end (like I was a bit confused when the next song started) and I wish the main rap was a bit calmer to fit with the rest of the song. It’s at its best when it allows their voices to just be and meld with each other.
I have one main hidden gem for this album, which is Butterfly. It’s no surprise that I love this one with how insane I am about harmonizing and vulnerability, but I really do love it. I feel like this should’ve been a single instead of Save Me, to be honest. All of the main gripes I have with it are remedied here: the chorus is fuller, the ending feels earned, and the raps are just calmer enough that they don’t stick out like a sore thumb. I also appreciated Taehyung’s voice more than I have in the past, and I’m glad for him in the chorus.
Also, speaking of vulnerability, I also, somewhat surprisingly, like the intro of the Most Beautiful Moment In Life, although I didn’t plan to on first listen. I appreciate that this song doesn’t try to paint them as above the world or better than anyone, but embraces the genuine emotion that they’re so good at conveying. It’s such a raw expression of exhaustion that I felt sympathy even before I looked up the words, which is pretty damn powerful.
And….breathe. Would it surprise you to learn that we’re only in mid 2016? Yeah, yeah, me too, kid. This is where Part 1 ends, I do my Supplemental for the week tomorrow (a boy group who I highly doubt you’ve heard of), and we all go touch some grass and eat some Doritos. K? K.
I’ll see you next week, for both Part 2 of this odyssey and a girl group supplemental!

2012 is almost over, but SHINee has one last Japanese fanmeet in Osaka before their 2012 promotions are officially completed. The announcer has asked one of the most fanservice triggering questions: who is your favorite member in the group? None are shocked when JongKey end up picking each other, but it's what is said and done during those confessions that Jin finds suspicious. He is left with a crucial decision: report JongKey to SM or confront Jonghyun about what happened on stage?

[140410] ['Raise Your Voice High!'] Interview with Yes24
Akdong Musician: “We want to be like Park Jin-young, Lee Juck, and Tablo”
Source: 악동뮤지션 “박진영, 이적, 타블로 선배님 닮고 싶어요” by 엄지혜 (Yes24)
The teenage sibling duo from Mongolia - Akdong Musician - released their debut album "PLAY" on April 7th. After winning the second season of SBS's "K-Pop Star" in 2013 and signing with YG Entertainment, Akdong Musician released their music publication "Raise Your Voice High!" before their official debut as singers. The duo, Lee Chanhyuk and Lee Suhyun, said, "There were times when we had a hard time because of our dreams. We would be so happy if our peers who are struggling with their dreams read our book."
"It feels like we're opening up our diary to the public. I'm a little embarrassed, but also excited. If you've only seen us performing music on TV, you'll get to see us as ordinary siblings in this book, just like any other." (Chanhyuk)
"I'm so happy that we can tell our story in more detail through a book, instead of just through songs. I was so nervous preparing for this book, thinking about the people who would read it, and I'm also curious about how I'll feel once I grow up and read it myself in the future." (Suhyun)
"Becoming singers through an audition stage - it wasn't because we were lucky. Before we stood on the audition stage, we were ordinary teenagers worried about our future. All we had was a word from our parents that gave us courage: 'Yes, give it a try.' 'That's really cool!' If our parents hadn't encouraged us to try this and that, we, or maybe I, might not have been able to do anything. If you don't do anything, you won't get any opportunities. Now, I'm grateful for every day I spent in Mongolia, especially the hardest days. Those were the days when I was creating opportunities for my dreams. So if you're full of worries like I was back then, it's time to create opportunities."
If I hadn't been homeschooled, I wouldn't have become a singer
How did siblings Lee Chan-hyuk and Lee Su-hyun become ‘Akdong Musician’? Six years ago, the two siblings, who followed their missionary father to Mongolia, had no choice but to choose homeschooling as they could not afford to attend school. Chanhyuk says he "spent a middle school life as dark as the universe." Before they stood on the audition stage of <K-Pop Star>, they were no different from other adolescent students who were worried about their uncertain future. The siblings' lives became different from their peers after they started homeschooling. Chanhyuk and Suhyun, who used to head to school with heavy hearts every morning because of English, were offered homeschooling by their father one day.
"At first, I was excited just because I wasn't going to school (laughs). But it didn't take long for me to realize that it wasn't all good. My parents did their best to prepare for homeschooling, and we were greeted by an overwhelming amount of textbooks." (Suhyun)
Their father, who worked as a missionary in Mongolia, downloaded internet lectures for the siblings' classes, and their mother showed her dedication by even changing the structure of the house to make it easier for them to study. Chanhyuk and Suhyun were just as busy as they were at school. They woke up at 6 a.m., had family prayer and meditation, had breakfast and washed the dishes, and took classes from 9 a.m. on. In the afternoon, they had to study English, Korean, social studies, math, and science. Sometimes, the two siblings would spread out their mats and say, "I'd rather go to school."
"It was tough when we first started homeschooling. The classes were not easy. But we were allowed a lot of free time. Even though many of my friends went to cram schools in elementary school, I have never once gone to cram schools to study. If I had spent my middle and high school years in Korea, I don't think it would have been easy for Akdong Musician to be born. I'm not good at studying, so I would have been stressed out a lot, and I wouldn't have had time to think about the dreams I really wanted to achieve. I'm so grateful for everything I have now." (Chanhyuk)
Chanhyuk, who was usually quiet but always showed off his energetic behavior when playing with his friends, was a well-known figure wherever he went. When he attended MK School in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, Chanhyuk was a boy known for being good at dancing and singing. However, his father imposed a "singing ban" on Chanhyuk. He didn't let him listen to songs with swear words and vulgar language. As a result, Chanhyuk, who only listened to clean songs, dreamed of a world where "there are more clean and beautiful songs that children can listen to and sing along to."
Through homeschooling, the friendship between the two siblings became stronger. Since they didn't go to school, they rarely met friends. Their only toys were a second-hand digital piano, a guitar, and their parents' cell phones. When Chanhyuk played a simple accompaniment or chords on the guitar, Suhyun would add lyrics and sing the song. When Suhyun said, "Ah~ I want to eat udon," Chanhyuk would continue the lyrics. When they got tired of singing, the siblings would film music videos and play.
"Homeschooling was tough, so singing and creating was more fun (laughs). My brother and I are like twins, so now we know exactly how each other feels without even saying a word. If we hadn't been homeschooled in Mongolia, we might not have become Akdong Musician. I don't think we could have imagined winning, joining YG, and releasing our first album. Homeschooling really helped me not to be tied to studying and to play music with the songs, piano, and guitar I wanted to play." (Suhyun)
Akdong Musician says that <K-Pop Star> and homeschooling are "the same." That's because they were able to make their own schedules and do whatever they wanted to do and learn. Of course, there were things they had to do to make what they wanted to do "what they could do." It was hard, but it was those times that made "Akdong Musician" who they are.
There is no one in the world who is not special
Suhyun has dreamed of being a singer since she was a child. That's because she was often praised for her beautiful voice. But she didn't really have a goal of becoming a singer. She started thinking seriously about doing music after she started homeschooling. Chanhyuk, who loved dancing and drawing, wanted to be a worship dancer or a cartoonist. Chanhyuk drew illustrations for "Raise Your Voice High!"
"When I was younger, I liked to draw and dance. I haven't been composing for long. I still dance hard and sometimes draw when I have time." (Chanhyuk)
In the second year of middle school, Chanhyuk spent a long time thinking about his dreams. That's because he didn't think he had any real talent. He also had a long-standing conflict with his father. Chanhyuk, who had a habit of not speaking until his mind was made up, declared "No entry for Dad" for a long time and remained silent. This was a typical case of "middle school syndrome."
"My parents don't nag me often, but when they do, it turns into a sermon that lasts for hours (laughs). But they hate to speak one-sidedly, and want to listen to my opinion and communicate. When I was a teenager, I knew that saying the wrong thing would only make things worse, so I kept my mouth shut. That led to misunderstandings and both my parents and I were frustrated, but in the end, my dad apologized first and we agreed to understand each other. I think both I and my parents have changed a lot. I'm grateful to my parents for understanding me, and I'm also grateful for them nagging me back then." (Chanhyuk)
Three years after they arrived in Mongolia, the siblings went to Korea for a short time due to visa reasons. At that time, Chanhyuk's biggest homework was the GED. He was able to get his father's promise that he would be given his freedom if he passed the GED, as he had promised him that he would show him his "dream plan." After that, Chanhyuk became immersed in the guitar and fell in love with composing, and his father, who had dreamed of becoming a CCM singer, soon noticed Chanhyuk's talent. When Chanhyuk made a song, Suhyun sang it, and it was too good to keep to themselves. His father uploaded a video of the siblings to YouTube, and soon hundreds of comments were asking for an encore from "Akdong Musician." The siblings received offers for street performances, and decided to challenge themselves on season 2 of <K-Pop Star>.
"The dream of becoming a singer came about while auditioning for <K-Pop Star>. There was a long period when I was having a hard time because of my dream. My family was also worried because I was making a career decision later than my peers. Just one or two years ago, I didn't have a dream, and now I'm someone who can give hope to someone else. It's not a story I made up after I succeeded. Some people say we're special. Yes! We think we're special (laughs). But if we're special, there's no one in the world who's not special. I want to tell my friends who are afraid to have hope because they're afraid of disappointment, let's go on an adventure together." (Chanhyuk)
They decided to appear on season 2 of <K-Pop Star> on a whim, as if they were going on a trip. The public cheered for Akdong Musician's fresh songs and appearance, and the siblings won the final round with rave reviews from the judges.
"We came to take music more seriously through . When we won the final prize and had to choose a management agency, our criteria was 'the place that can best preserve our songs'. Yang Hyun-suk said on the show, 'It's best for Akdong to just do what Akdong does,' and we thought he would be a good fit for us. We're becoming labelmates with seniors like Big Bang and 2NE1! I still get chills when I think about it." (Suhyun)
“We had a lot to show. We wanted to show that we could handle various genres and experimental lyrics and song interpretations. But as public expectations grew, it became difficult. Whenever we felt that way, we chose to challenge ourselves to new possibilities. The most memorable comment from the judges was, 'This is what real singer-songwriters are.' It was the best compliment that we could have received as Akdong Musician” (Chanhyuk)
Our music is 'the milk you drank when you were depressed'
Akdong Musician released their first album, "PLAY," on April 7th and has been actively promoting it. The title track, "200%," has topped music charts for two consecutive weeks, and the album has been number one on the music charts for 20 days since its release.
"We didn't know that so many people were looking forward to Akdong Musician. We were so touched and we made up our minds to work even harder. I personally like the song 'Melted' on this album the most. It's a style we haven't shown before, so we were worried that people wouldn't like it, but we're glad it's getting a good response. I wanted to push this song as the title track regardless of the chart results. Our first album, 'PLAY,' is an album that encapsulates the big cloud-like music that Akdong Musician will show in the future in a small air bag." (Chanhyuk)
"We didn't expect to be number one. No, I did. Actually, no, that's not it. We didn't expect it, but we imagined it (laughs). We just talked among ourselves about wanting to be number one. But when we actually got number one, it was touching and we were so grateful to the people who listen to our music (laughs). My favorite song is '200%'. It's the most fun to sing and the one I practiced the most." (Suhyun)
Chanhyuk dreams of being "the same singer as always." His aspiration is to continue creating genuine music with his current sensibilities, even as he explores various genres. He intends to perform wherever Akdong Musician is given the opportunity, regardless of the stage size. Suhyun's dream is to be "a singer who makes music that makes people happy like now." She said, "Please look forward to Akdong Musician singing with all their heart on any stage."
The lyricists that Chanhyuk considers as role models are Tablo and Lee Juck, and his composer role model is Park Jin-young. He wants to be a lyricist who can touch people with good lyrics and a composer who can do various genres of music in a long-running career. Suhyun says, "I respect people who are firm about their own music and style and who tell their own stories," and "I like Park Jinyoung, Lee Juck, Sohyang, Ailee, and IU."
"Akdong Musician's music is 'the milk you drank when you were depressed.' What does it matter if you drink milk when you're depressed? I want to make songs that are comforting just by listening to the flow even if you don't know the meaning exactly, songs that are like a glass of milk for someone who is depressed and listen to their worries from the side. Even though the nature of 'depression' and 'milk' is different, I believe the song evokes sympathy by mimicking each other's shape" (Chanhyuk)
"Akdong Musician's music is a forest. I think a forest is the closest thing to our music. A forest is not made by someone's intention, but by nature. It is more natural, effortless, beautiful, and free than anything made by man. We also want to continue making fresh and natural music that is pollution-free." (Suhyun)

Ryu Hyun-jin will face Otani if he takes the mound
Ryu Hyun-jin will face Otani if he takes the mound on the 25th or 26th in bullpen pitching on the 29th
Ryu Hyun-jin (36, Toronto Blue Jays) will pitch the bullpen in front of coach John Schneider.
This is the last gateway to his return to the big leagues.
SportsNet Canada said on the 24th (Korea Standard Time), "Ryu Hyun-jin will join Toronto's Los Angeles (LA) expedition on the 25th and pitch the bullpen on the 25th or 26th at Dodger Stadium."
"Ryu Hyun-jin can take the mound against the LA Dodgers on the 27th, but he is likely to take the mound in three consecutive games against the LA Angels at Anaheim Angels Stadium on the 29th and 31st," he added.
Toronto in the U.S. Major League Baseball will play three consecutive games against the Dodgers from the 25th to the 27th, take a day off on the 28th, and play 17 consecutive games without a single day off from the 29th to August 14th.
Just in time, Ryu Hyun-jin finished his long rehabilitation and prepared to return.
If Ryu Hyun-jin starts against the Angels on the 29th, the first of the 17 consecutive games, he will also face off against Shohei Otani (Angels) as a starting pitcher.
The Angels have already announced Ohtani as a starter on the 29th.
Ryu Hyun-jin and Ohtani had their first starting match at Angel Stadium on May 27 last year.
The winner at the time was Ryu Hyun-jin. Ryu Hyun-jin became a winning pitcher with six hits and one run in five innings, and Otani was sluggish with six hits and five runs in six innings, putting him under the yoke of defeat.
Ryu Hyun-jin also won by decision with no hits, one walk, and one strikeout in two at-bats against "Hitter Ohtani," who doubles as a pitcher.
However, Ryu Hyun-jin underwent ligament surgery on his left elbow on June 19 last year and began long and lonely rehabilitation.
Ohtani kept his top star position in Major League Baseball by winning pitching and hitting.
Ryu Hyun-jin is almost ready for his return.
He played bullpen pitching in May and live pitching in June as scheduled, and made four actual appearances in the minor leagues in July.
On the 22nd, he started in the Minor League Triple-A game and gave up three hits (two home runs) and one walk in six innings and allowed two runs. He struck out five.
Ryu Hyun-jin, who threw 85 pitches the most after surgery, also raised his fastball speed to a maximum of 90.8 miles per hour (about 146 kilometers).
Toronto decided to accompany Ryu Hyun-jin from the LA expedition on the 25th, and also scheduled bullpen pitching. It is the final inspection to return to the starting lineup in the big leagues.
Ryu Hyun-jin, who advanced to the Major League in 2013, posted 75 wins, 45 losses, one save, and a 3.27 ERA in 175 games in the big leagues.
Ryu Hyun-jin's winning clock stopped for 13 months while undergoing elbow surgery and rehabilitation.
If Ryu Hyun-jin's return match is played against Otani as a starting match, interest will increase.
Even if the mound date is 30th or 31st, Ryu Hyun-jin will announce his return to the big leagues with a Korea-Japan pitching and hitting showdown with Otani.

Business engine of a global faith (2010)
[The faces inside KOREA'S CONGLOMERATES]
▲ Yongpyong Resort in Pyongchang, Gangwon is one of Tongil Group's key sources of revenue. The Winter Olympics were held at the venue. Provided by the group.
Once near dissolution, Tongil Group has been resurrected to the cusp of profitability by new CEO Moon Kook-jin.
[Moon Kook-jin was fired in about 2013 by Hak Ja Han.]
JoongAng Daily April 12, 2010
Tongil, or unification in Korean, means different things to different people.
Some associate it with the reunification of the peninsula, while others might think of Tongilgyo, the Unification Church, a powerful religious sect whose believers number at least three million worldwide. While even most Americans have probably heard of the Unification Church founded by Reverend Moon Sun-myung, chances are not many know Tongil Group, the Unification Church's business empire in Korea whose ventures stretch from manufacturing to tourism and newspaper publishing.
For instance, Yongpyong Resort in Pyeong-chang County, Gangwon, frequented by many Koreans especially during the skiing season, is one of the group's key businesses.
Tongil Group was founded by Reverend Moon on Oct. 4, 1963, nine years after he proclaimed himself the messiah and officially established the Unification Church in Seoul. The group started as a nonprofit whose gains were all to be pumped into the religious and educational activities of the church, and its core business back then was manufacturing, under affiliates that included Tongil Heavy Industries, Hankook Titanium and Ilsung Construction, among others.
In coming years, Tongil Group expanded into drugs, tourism and publishing. In 1971, it established Ilhwa, which makes pharmaceuticals, ginseng tea and the famous barley drink called McCol. In 1985, Tongil established Seil Travel, and in 1988, the top 10 daily newspaper Segye Times (Segye Ilbo) launched. The group also strengthened its presence in manufacturing, setting up Ilshin Stone in 1971 and Tongil Industries Company, or TIC, in 1988.
Tongil Group was hit hard by the financial crisis that engulfed Asia in the late 1990s. In 1998, five of the group's affiliates – including Tongil Heavy Industries, which was its flagship affiliate at the time – went into receivership. Poor management led to deterioration in the following years, so much so that in 2004, the group was saddled with some 40.9 billion won ($36.6 million) in debt. Group officials today look back on that sober time and say the group came very close to dissolution.
"Tongil Group was founded to support the activities of the Unification Church, but in those years it was the other way around – business was so bad that Unification Church ended up supporting the work of Tongil Group," said Ryu In-yong, a Tongil public relations manager.
But a few key investments put an end to those dark days.
In 2000, Tongil established Sunwon Construction, and in 2003, it acquired Yongpyong Resort from Ssangyong Cement with the cash raised from selling the land under the Segye Times building in Yongsan, downtown Seoul. Yongpyong Resort is now one of the group's biggest sources of revenue.
But the real "resurrection" of Tongil Group came in January 2005 when Moon Kook-jin, the fourth son of Reverend Moon, was inaugurated as the new chairman. Like Reverend Moon's other sons, Kook-jin was educated in the United States, with a bachelor's degree in economics from Harvard University and an MBA from the University of Miami. A hobby target shooter, he founded the U.S. arms manufacturer Kahr Arms in 1993. Today, the 40-year-old Moon has been trying to turn the debt-ridden Tongil Group into a viable conglomerate.
Coming into the post, Chairman Moon gave a frank assessment. "Survival itself will be the biggest challenge," he said, but Tongil "will never fail." As he predicted, in three years the company was able to rebound.
Its operating income improved from a loss of 40 billion won in 2006 to one of 6.2 billion won last year. Its percentage of debt to assets was also drastically reduced – from 767 percent in 2004 to 194 percent last year.
Tongil Group believes that the turnaround was possible because Moon put results, rationality and transparency above anything else, streamlining its businesses. He sold off losing companies, reducing the number of affiliates from 34 to 15.
The group's total assets stood at 1.75 trillion won last year, up 33 percent from 2004. The group is still mostly private, with Ilshin the only publicly traded affiliate. That company reported last month that although sales and operating profit had decreased, by 11 and 33 percent, respectively, it posted a record net profit of 1.9 billion won last year, up 228 percent from 2008.
Moon's streamlining efforts also shifted Tongil's key business from manufacturing to tourism and leisure, moving 70 percent of its assets into resorts and leaving just 18 percent in manufacturing and 6 percent in construction.
"I believe the resort business is something that can bring synergy with our religious activities," Moon said. "We use resorts for religion-related meetings, conferences and educational programs. Also, leisure activities at resorts can be enjoyed by anyone regardless of their religion or race.
The group's biggest current task, according to Tongil Group officials, is a project to build a world-class marine tourism and leisure complex in Yeosu, South Jeolla, to include golf courses, football fields, hotels and condominiums, by 2015. Worth some 1 trillion won, the project is spearheaded by Ilsang Ocean Development, a Tongil affiliate. The southern port city is set to host the Yeosu Expo in 2012.
Taking a closer look at Tongil affiliates and their CEOs, Ilhwa is led by Lee Sung-kyoon, who joined the company in 1978 and worked his way up through departments such as planning, pharmaceuticals and food.
At the helm of the Segye Times is Yoon Jeong-ro, who served as the vice president and secretary general of the Peace Unification Family Party, a political entity set up by the church that has been defunct since 2008.
Yongpyong Resort and Ilsang Ocean Development are both led by Jeong Chang-joo, who joined the Segye Times in 1998 as a planning office director.
Song Sang-yoon, a veteran of the industry, is CEO of Sunwon Construction, and Park In-sub, a Cornell graduate and son-in-law of Reverend Moon, operates Seil Travel.
Other units include stone materials supplier Ilshin Stone, metal-related products and technology manufacturer JC and auto-parts maker TIC.
Chairman Moon, in a recent interview with Forbes, said he has high hopes for TIC, and that he is proud the company produces axles for armored vehicles. TIC was established by merging several subsidiaries of Tongil Heavy Industries, which previously supplied hardware for the Korean armed forces.
Other units include building management company Seilo, helicopter operator Tongil Air Systems and agricultural company Pyongnong.
Through these entities, Tongil Group finances about 20 religious and educational institutions, including the Sun Moon University, Sunhwa Arts High School, music group the Little Angels and others.
But Tongil Group is not the only fiefdom in the Unification Church's business empire. It's not to be confused with Unification Church International, which is run by Kook-jin's older brother Hyun-jin and whose major businesses include The Washington Times and True World Foods in the U.S. as well as Marriott hotels and the Central City complex [now sold] in Korea.
The CEOs and their styles differ, but on the surface Tongil Group and UCI share the same goal – to support the Unification Church, with another brother, Hyung-jin – the youngest of Reverend Moon's 14 children – leading the congregation since he was appointed president of the church by his father in 2008.

Top wives who took off mysticism
mysticism? What is it?
Some actresses in the past often hid their private lives and took the mystic route. In particular, many of those who became wives of top stars were like that. But now it's different. Instead of the title of ‘top star’s wife’, actresses are building their careers more solidly, and more and more people are boldly revealing their private lives that have been shrouded in veils.
Lee Min-jung
Lee Min-jung, who started dating actor Lee Byung-hun in 2012, got married on August 10, 2013, after about a year. The couple of the century was born. Two years later, in 2015, she had her first son in her arms and had a happy family. By this year, her son is already 8 years old.
But these days, Lee Min-jung's talk is frightening. Having communicated with fans through SNS with his easy-going and hot personality, he returned to Chungmuro after 11 years with the movie "Switch" and captivates fans with his great talk. The point of his conversation is, of course, his husband, Lee Byung-hun.
Lee Min-jung, who appeared on SBS Power FM's 'Cultwo Show' on the 2nd, mentioned Oh Jung-se's line in the play, "Lee Byung-hun is cheaper than me," and said, "Everyone liked that scene at the premiere. I wonder if all men want (Lee Byung-hun) to be cheap," he said, drawing laughter.
In an interview, he said, “Many people see me as a miser, but I’m not. I like to be funny, but I'm an actor, so I hide it.
Han Ga-in
Han Ga-in has recently become more familiar with viewers through her active entertainment activities. Last year, after warming up with SBS' 'Circle House', she is emitting an entertainment force comparable to her husband Yeon Jung-hoon's with 'Sing for Gold', MBN's 'Greek and Roman Myths-The Private Lives of the Gods', and JTBC's 'Handless Day'.
This is thanks to the candid way of speaking and 200% sympathy for the storyteller. She met the victim of the can charter scam in person, fully sympathized with the client's story, shed tears together, and attracted viewers with her easy-going charm of mentioning tteokbokki as the food she wanted to eat the most when she was pregnant.
In particular, in April of last year, her husband, Yeon Jung-hoon, appeared as a guest on KBS 2TV’s ‘1 Night 2 Days’, a regular appearance, and was recognized for his hot entertainment sense. In each game, he gave unexpected fun with his dazzling performance and extraordinary fighting spirit, and even completed a mukbang that made his mouth water just by looking at it, making Yeon Jung-hoon happy.
Son Ye-jin
Son Ye-jin, who became Hyun Bin's wife, is actively revealing her daily life to her fans through SNS. After marriage, she said that she cooks often, which she did not normally do. She posted a picture of gimbap and showed off a house-cooked table prepared with stew and various side dishes.
She gave birth to her first son in November last year, and since then, she has posted a picture of her son's feet on Instagram, which has generated a heated reaction. At this time, Son Ye-jin said, “A precious life was born to our couple. She desperately realizes that many people need sincere affection and help for a life to be born, and she wants to convey her heart to those she is grateful for.”
He continued, “All babies in this world are light in their existence, and when I met someone I loved more than myself, I felt helpless and strong enough to do anything at the same time. I am also grateful to you who are transforming into a hedgehog day by day through this whole process,” she said, expressing her gratitude to her fans and her husband Hyun Bin.

She *is* pretty! Why can’t you see it?!!
Note: This was written back in 2017, but I never got to publishing it.
A “She Was Pretty” Review:
Background Meta
I discovered the trailer for this drama last year when I was *cough* trying to drown myself in KDramas as I avoid a British Spy-Themed TV Event with one Sexualized Nerd-Hunk that just gave me collossal headaches... *cough* ANYWAY. I just finished “Personal Preference” at long last, since I started it around 2013 and didn’t finish it... till three years later due to... real life things. Unfortunately, due to other unforseen real life things, I didn’t manage to watch “She Was Pretty” last year as well.
This year, it just suddenly popped up in my mind while trying to find something to watch: “What’s the title of that KDrama again where there’s this weird girl who had this hot pixie-ish haircut dancing about in this pool-side party? And she was ugly?” I had to check out this KDrama list of “Best Dramas” per year -- and I found my answer.
Spoilers ahead!
Characters
Kim Hye Jin - I love the fact that she really is pretty -- freckles, frizzy hair and all. I was like -- “Okay just a little hairstyling like a ponytail or half-ponytail of some sort, and she’d be fine without having a full makeover.” And with someone who’s got untameable hair, Hyejin-a is someone very relatable. She’s also a kind person and has this knack for efficiency when working -- something I can also relate to.
Though yes, my mother (whom I also dragged into watch this series) was right: Hye Jin is over the top sometimes with how she reacts to things around her. Some of her quirks seem to be overdone too, like the way she makes that sound with clucking her teeth when she’s nervous. I mean sure, she’s weird and all -- but no need to overdo it. It just made the first few episodes a bit too much for someone who isn’t fond of slapstick humor (like my mother). Fortunately, its the slapstick humor that made me stay. It is my thing anyway. XD
Despite the whole predictable “makeover plot”, I love how Hye Jin turned out to be a writer at the end, loving her work. And she keeps her curly hair and freckles! I would say her journey through MOST makes it worthwhile, and I love how she managed to interact with everyone who was with her along the way.
Ji Sung Joon - I haven’t been watching a lot of KDramas lately, but I saw clips of “Kiss Me, Heal Me” (where both Hwang Jung-eum and Park Seo-Joon also starred) and I realized that the other reviewers were right: The whole “stoic, cold-hearted” characterization just doesn’t fit Park Seo-Joon. Although I understand that it was all for plot... but did Sung-Joon really need to be that harsh?!
And what happened to that sweet, quiet overweight boy at the start? What was it that turned him into this rich, stoic, and cold-hearted man whom Hye Jin meets again? I wish we saw more of what transformed Sung-Joon to what he was now. I mean we were shown the backstory of his mother dying and how he was bullied when he transferred to the US... but I wish there was more to support his character.
Yes, I understand he was being keen on getting Most to the top spot. Yes, I know he needed to succeed or else MOST Korea would close down and that would spell doom for his career in MOST NYC. But did he really have to be that harsh?! I feel like all that effort of being crude and strict we as all for naught since it turns out that it would have worked better if he was transparent with the MOST Editing Team and collaborated with them in the process. The fact that he was still terrorizing his team at the end made me wonder if the whole character development was worth it.
But once he finds out the truth about Hye Jin and (Ha Ri as well), he suddenly turns into this sweet guy who just loves his childhood sweetheart so much and it was easier for me to watch Sung-Joon go about. I just wish he didn’t just go through the whole “POOF! I’M A SWEETHEART NOW!” transformation after all the harshness Hye Jin had to go through. They could have characterized his coldness as a facade and was truly sweet and gentle underneath it all.
However, Sung-Joon’s flaws are hilarious. The fact that he can barely hear anything when he’s holding his tablet that he’s reduced into drinking water from vases thinking its his coffee and slamming nose-first into elevator doors and glass walls made him a bit more well-rounded as a character.
Min Ha Ri - I love how Ha Ri was a well-rounded character, not your typical antagonistic second lead. Her friendship with Hye Jin is something amazing -- something you don’t usually find in frikking dramas lately. But I’ll discuss that later. I love how Ha Ri serves as Hye Jin’s foil somewhat: being that rich, cool, pretty best-friend whom all the boys line up for. And yet, despite getting everything she ever wanted, she’d drop everything for her “wifey” Hye Jin.
I understand that the whole conflict in the plot was construed by her and Hye Jin and they do take responsibility for it. And I give her credit for stretching her neck as far as she could just so she can tell Jung-Soon the truth, despite being blocked every single time she tries. It just so happens that she fell in love with Jung-Soon too... and I suddenly had my heart going out to her.
“He was my first love too.” Her stomach cramps spelled her guilt for it all. The way she bounces back and becomes supportive for Hye Jin just shows how her friendship with her is solid. Her dedication to claim her future and shape her own destiny by giving up everything that wasn’t hers: from her clothes, her car, and the job where her father shoe’d her in just shows how Ha Ri has integrity. And I love it when she perseveres through the end.
As much as I do wish she ended up with someone (like Shin-hyuk), I think her ending suits her. <3
Kim Shin-Hyuk - Seriously, I wasn’t a Choi Siwon fan when I walked into this fandom. I did walk out as one.
THIS LIL SH** STEALS THE SHOW!!!
I swear, if it weren’t for Shin-Hyuk’s little quirks and Choi Siwon’s perfect comedic timing then I don’t know... He makes everything worthwhile and bearable when the second-hand embarrassment is too much from Hye Jin and when I think that Ha Ri is losing her conscience. I mean, Reporter Kim even brought out the humanity out of the cold Jung-Soon!
And they were right how Siwon’s acting spectrum came out with Shin-Hyuk: he shifted from goofy to someone scarred and hurting inside in SECONDS. Those scenes after the motorcycle accident where he goofs around to cheer Hye Jin up while trying to hide the fact that he’s still receiving treatment for his wounds are just one of his milestones.
Even his catchphrases such as calling Hye Jin as “Jackson” is just too precious.
Although I do have quite the second-lead syndrome, I don’t think he’s perfect for Hye Jin. I believe that with how gullible Hye Jin is, his quirkiness would just cause her much stress. And from the start you just knew that Hye Jin already chose Jung-Soon... Although he may be a perfect match for Min Ha Ri, I think the latter and Reporter Kim should be at least stand alones. Well, for these relationships, I’ll elaborate further later on.
I do wish that there’s a happier ending for Reporter Kim though.
Honorable Mentions:
Kim Ra Ra - Aside from Reporter Kim, the deranged yet chic Chief Editor of Most Korea takes the cake in comedy! She’s like a hilarious version of Miranda Priestly of “Devil Wears Prada” without the utter devastation and filled with crazy crack. I swear she steals the show everytime she’s on screen (along with that upbeat track just made for her - Shung! Shung! Shung!) whether she’s speaking in some European Language of God Knows What, throwing her stuff about and expecting them to be caught, or flirting with guys who are 20 years her junior.
Plot
This story has three major ongoing plots ongoing:
Hye Jin and Ha Ri concocting this plot of making the latter appear as the former in front of Sung-Joon due to Hye Jin's insecurities
Sung-Joon's attempt to rekindle his friendship/romance with childhood friend Hye Jin
MOST Korea's attempt to break through the charts and end up as #1 in sales in three months
There are several subplots that I think are more interesting and are stand-outs from the main story:
The guest from #2024 (a.k.a. Min Ha Ri's and Kim Shin-Hyuk's friendship)
Who is Ten (the world-renknowned mysterious writer)?
Who is the Vice-President's son who was working secretly in MOST Korea's Editing team?
Han Seol and Kim Joon-woo's side love story

6 Hit Songs That Channel Harriet Tubman’s Resilience, Spirit And Fight For Freedom
Over the last 100 years musicians have paid homage to her legacy, contribution to fighting for freedom and even pride in having her spirit instilled in themselves.

Araminta Ross, the mother of enslaved people and global icon of freedom, was born near Cambridge, Maryland, on the Eastern Shore, in early 1822. She would later become the historical heroine Harriet Tubman.
Two hundred years after her birth, Tubman is acknowledged and respected as one of the most influential freedom fighters in Black history. Born into slavery to Harriet Green and Ben Ross and eight siblings, she would eventually be separated from due to the realities of slavery.
John Tubman, a free Black man, married Harriet around 1844, changing her last name to Tubman. Harriet met and worked with other abolitionists such as Frederick Douglass, Thomas Garrett and Martha Coffin Wright and established her Underground Railroad network.

She would save over 300 enslaved people throughout her life, personally saving over 70, including family members.
On Mar. 10, 1913, Harriet died and was buried with military honors in Auburn. Last year, she was inducted into the U.S. Army Military Intelligence Corps Hall of Fame.
Over the last 100 years since Harriet’s death, musicians have paid homage to her legacy, contribution to fighting for freedom and even pride in having her spirit instilled in themselves.
Here are six songs that pay tribute to “General Tubman,” Harriet Tubman.
Janelle Monáe - "Q.U.E.E.N."
Released in April 2013, Janelle Monae referred to Harriet in her hit single, “Q.U.E.E.N,” featuring musician Erykah Badu. According to the singer, “Q.U.E.E.N.” (acronym of “Queer, Untouchables, Emigrants, Excommunicated and Negroid”) was inspired by several private conversations between Monae and Badu.
youtube
Mixing masterminds like your name Bernie Grundman/ Well I’ma keep leading like a young Harriet Tubman/ You can take my wings, but I’m still goin’ fly/ And even when you edit me the booty don’t lie.
Jay Rock - "Broke +-"
Top Dawg Entertainment’s artist, Jay Rock, released the track “Broke +-” featured on his third studio album, Redemption, in June 2018. In his lyrics, Jay Rock references this quote that is often incorrectlyattributed to Harriet.
“I freed a thousand slaves. I could have freed a thousand more if only they knew they were slaves.”
Although there is no way of knowing whether Tubman said the aforementioned quote, many sources cite the infamous “conductor” of saving only around 300 people during her efforts.
youtube
The vision my pugilistic moods insisted/ Food come from them tools he so choose to use/ Now Harriet Tubman say she freed a thousand slaves/ Could’ve freed a thousand more if they was aware of the chains
Run - D.M.C - "Proud to be Black"
Among Run-D.M.C’s studio albums, Raising Hell is probably one of the most popular and high-ranked. Ranked #123 on Rolling Stone’s 500 greatest albums of all time, ranked #4 on comedian Chris Rock’s list of Top 25 Hip-Hop Albums of all time and chosen as one of Time’s 100 greatest albums, the album is one of the more outlasting Hip-Hop albums, 36 years after its release. Despite Harriet’s birth as a slave, the rappers point out that she lived her life to help others be free and because of her contribution, slavery no longer exists.
youtube
Now Harriet Tubman was born a slave/ She was a tiny Black woman, but she was brave/ She was livin’ to be givin’, there’s a lot that she gave/ There’s not a slave in this day and age, I’m proud to be Black
Azealia Banks - "The Chamber"
In Love Beats Rhymes, Rappers Azealia Banks and MC Jin performed “The Chamber.” The film, directed by one of Wu-Tang Clan’s founding members, RZA, follows a young rapper looking to pursue a career in music.
During one of the rap battles seen in the movie, Banks goes against MC Jin, known as one of the freestyle Friday’s winners on BET’s 106 and Park, winning every day for seven weeks. Banks relates to Harriet by their ties to the Underground; Harriet with the underground railroad and Banks with underground music.
youtube
I’m Rosa Parks with the lead cause I’m staying in the front/ Hellen Keller, Anne Frank, Cleopatra, Billie Jean/ I’m Harriet Tubman, I run the underground by any means/ Just some famous women before you brag about what men can do
Angie Stone - "My People"
“My People” is a track featured on R&B singer Angie Stone’s fourth studio album, The Art of Love & War. The song’s lyrics best describe the pride and love that Stone has as a Black woman.
Naming several notable and vital people in Black History, Stone encourages her fans to walk with their heads held high and walk with pride. Tubman is named in the song and other important Black people in history, including; Barack Obama, Michael Jordan, Oprah Winfrey and more.
youtube
Harriet Tubman, Shirley Caesar/ Miss Jane Pittman, Juanita Bynum / Maya Angelou, Bishop T.D. Jakes/ Madam C.J. Walker, Bishop Noel Jones /Moms Mabley, Reverend Blake Scott/ Aretha Franklin, Reverend Jamal Bryant
Yo Yo - "Girls Got A Gun"
A track from Yo-Yo’s third studio album, You Better Ask Somebody, “Girls Got a Gun” was released in 1993. Ice Cube produced the song.
youtube
The song was released a year after the LA Riots in 1992, the result of the acquittal of four police officers, who were filmed beating Rodney King, a Black man who was pulled over for speeding and the killing of Latasha Harlins, a young Black girl who a Korean-American convenience store owner fatally shot.
In the song, Yo-Yo speaks from a place of anger and frustration, denouncing then-President Clinton and former first lady Hillary Clinton while priding herself as having the spirit of Harriet in her.
The devil don’t know who the man be/Come and check it out, I got the fat artillery/Harriet Tubman’s spirit instilled in me/**** Bill Clinton and Hillary

My controversial Kdrama opinions
1. Ko Moon Young was just a psychologically messed up girl. She isn't the 'girlpower' or 'badass' that the Kdrama fandom likes to dub her into.
2. In 'Hotel del Luna', they could've just chucked the entire character of Gu Chansung out of the window and gave Chang Myung a rebirth/rebirths,make him go through various trials and tribulations to repent and earn Man Wol's forgiveness. Didn't have to make it unnecessarily tragic.
3. Unnecessarily tragic reminds me, the 'realistic' ending of 2521 was a JOKE. There was NO point of developing such a power couple if they were to break up for such a mundane reason.
4. Romance genre isn't Song Kang's 'thing'. He shines better as an actor in non-romance genres.
5. Had they focused on developing Ju Kyung as an individual character who finally learns how to completely take a stand for herself instead of dangling her between Suho and Seojun, 'True Beauty' would've become a more popular and appreciated drama.
6. The love line between Hwang InYeop and Seo Hyun Jin's character in 'Why her: Oh Soo Jae' was absolutely unnecessary and awkward.
7. Jo Bo Ah and Ahn Bo Hyun and an amazing chemistry in 'Military Prosecutor: Do Bae Man'. However, they could've developed a slowburn romance between them instead of abruptly putting a kiss sequence in the last episode out of nowhere.
8. In 'Snowdrop', Eun Young Ro forgiving Soo Ho later on didn't make sense. Their kiss sequence was purely fan service, nothing else.
9. Individual acting aside,Kim Hye Yoon had more chemistry with Lee Jae Wook(2nd lead) than Rowoon(main lead) in 'Extraordinary You'.
10. Writers are overusing 'Let's kill off the main character and make the show tragically memorable' trope wayyy too much.
11. As much as it physically hurts me given the chemistry of the actors,Choi Do Il and Oh In Joo not having any proper romantic sequence till the end of 'Little Women' makes sense to the storyline(the shipper me might've wanted a hug though).
12. Also the writers should stop doing the 'lets make the second lead better than the main lead'. Its annoying to see one person actually making sincere effort for the girl but the girl ends up totally ignoring their effort and like the ML. Not in just Kdramas but in all sorts of dramas. I actually saw a Chinese drama where the second lead finally turned into a villain. I LITERALLY commented 'good for him' lmao.
13. Sunho in 'Cheer Up' is problematic. Neither his sad backstory nor his sincere feelings for Haeyi changes that fact.
14. The Heirs(2013) drama wasted an opportunity to pair Young Do(Kim Woobin) with Yoo Rachel(Kim Jiwon). No, they didn't need to be 'siblings'. I'd have chosen the two heartbroken yet sassy and tough people romance over the sappy romance of the main couple in a heartbeat. And the actors would've NAILED it.
15. Jojo not ending up with Sunho in 'Love Alarm' finally broke the 'Cinderella and Prince Charming' fairytale trope of Kdramas. That girl was too messed up in the head . She didn't need the rich, fierce and impulsive lover, but the quite, patient and thoughtful one. So don't go ahead and say the ending sucked. Maybe they could've made things more coherent, but no the ending didn't suck.
16. Moon Dong Eun should have remained single, with the last episode ending with him crossing paths with Do Yeong, with Yeonjin & gang & all the revenge agenda gone, she could hv offered him a smile and a game of Go, keeping an open ending for them. Lee Do Hyun was fabulous in playing Yeojeong and their chemistry was amazing. But they could hv just been partners in crime with their teamwork without the romantic plot between them.
17. No. Ryu Shi Oh doesn't give second lead syndrome. Byun Woo Seok is a very good actor but he plays the villain in 'Strong Woman Kang Nam Soon' and not anti-hero. Lee Yoo Mi and him should be paired opposite to e/o in some other project in the future but Shi Oh and Nam Soon ain't the 'enemies to lovers' you think it is.
18. After Byun Woo Seok's popularity skyrocketed with 'Lovely Runner', many people dug up his previous works & lamented over not noticing him earlier. People even felt sad that he got his recognition late. But honestly, he wasn't very noticeable as an actor in his earlier stages imo. He kept working hard on his acting skills to get to where he is now. What I applaud about him is not giving up & putting the efforts in all right places but he didn't start from a 100.
19. I'm actually glad they brought back the fresh romcoms in 2024. Got tired of consistently watching crime thrillers, school violence, zombie apocalypse and stuff. I mean, of course they're good. But the key ingredient for Kdramas will always be those cringey classic slightly over-the-top romcoms.
20. Cha Eunwoo's acting in 'My ID is Gangnam Beauty' isn't as bad as people try to make it. His character actually demanded those stank cold expressions that he delivered. In fact, I'd say his character Do Kyeong Seok was one of the first Kdrama male leads that actually understood and empathised with the FL's situation and protected her in his own way without going over-the-top cliche "she is my yeoja and only I can bother her" about it.
21. In the 'No Gain, No Love' Kdrama, the romantic pairing of Ja Yeon and Gyu Hyun felt very forced to me. I was actually hoping for Hajun to shine instead of reducing him into just a 'former crush'. I'd rather have Hajun regretting looking down on an erotica novelist and leaving mean comment, sort things up with Ja Yeon and actually catch feelings for her respecting her as a person than this mishmash of 'Richman poor woman plus marrying my antifan' trope. The actors individually were great with their parts but I see them as in laws of the main couple ending on good terms rather than a romantic pairing itself. Ironically, this is the only second lead pairing that gets their own spinoff as leads.

Accidents Happen
{ BTS Master List }
Summary: Yoongi and you have been dating for 2 years all in secret. You’ve been extra careful about keeping your relationship a secret from the public until an accident reveals it to the world, and you both need to deal with the consequences.
Pairing: Idol!Yoongi x Fem!Reader
Genre: some angst
Rated: T
Warnings: k-pop stigmas, secrets revealed, emotional support
Notes: Jagiya in Korean is similar to “baby” or “honey” in English.
*・゜゚・*:.。..。.:*・'(*゚▽゚*)'・*:.。. .。.:*・゜゚・*
You stand in the living room of the dorm in the far corner trying not to cry. Yoongi and you have been doing so well keeping your relationship a secret for two years. But now it's out there. Your relationship is plastered all over social media because you weren’t careful enough.
You feel your phone repeatedly buzz with notifications in your back pocket, but you don’t take it out or even glance at it. You're too focused on your boyfriend sitting in the chair in front of you, waiting for a call from BigHit about whether his career is over or not.
The main reason you both never came out with your relationship is because it was very clear in his contract he signed in 2013 that if he got into a public relationship, he’ll most likely no longer have a career with BigHit.
It’s happened before with other K-pop relationships that have gone public, and although BTS has changed a lot of stigmas in the K-pop community you both have a feeling your relationship will be no different.
All the other BTS members are sitting around on the couches besides Namjoon and Jin. They’re both standing behind Yoongi’s chair, staring just as intensely at Yoongi’s phone on the coffee table as Yoongi himself.
This all wouldn’t of happened if you didn't ask Yoongi to go out to dinner with you. You knew being out in public with him at any time of day, even if it was midnight at the time, was risky but a new place just opened up nearly 20 minutes down the street and you wanted to go. He told you it wasn’t a good idea, that when it comes to things too public it wasn't smart, but you gave him the pouty lip, and puppy dog eyes, and he caved.
You both went out that night to the brand new restaurant and someone recognized him, but they didn’t go up to him or even tweeted about just seeing him. They took a picture of you giving him thank you kiss and posted it on every social media platform possible.
It was nearly one hour later that the news spread that Min Yoongi had a girlfriend, and then some crazy fans scooped the internet until they found out the face in the picture matched yours. And that’s how your relationship was confirmed to the public without even Yoongi’s or yours knowledge.
And now, the following evening from that night, we're all waiting for Yoongi’s phone to ring and be told he can no longer be apart of BTS.
And it’s all your fault.
You try as hard as possible not to cry. No one is sparing you a glance because you're cowering in the corner. Currently, that phone call is more important then your feelings.
Eventually, Taehyung gets just as impatient as the rest of you and blurts out, “How long are they going to take?”
Then Jin chimes in, “You would think they would want to call you right away giving the circumstances.”
No one else says anything, but you see Yoongi shuffle in his seat. He has his usual poker face on, but the only indication that he’s upset or angry in any way it that he’s poking the inside of his cheek with his tongue. He doesn't show his emotions very clearly, but if you know him well enough you can tell by these little indications how he’s really feeling.
Seeing Yoongi so upset about the situation makes one tear break free from the wall you were trying to keep up. You wipe it away quickly and sniffle to make sure no more break free, but Yoongi hears you.
He turns his head away from his phone for the first time since this morning when your phones notifications went off like blinking Christmas lights. He turns to you because he heard you sniffle and he knew you were trying to hold back tears.
Unlike him, it’s much harder for you to hold back your emotions.
His eyebrows crinkled in confusion when he saw your current state. He then realized you were probably just as upset about the situation as he was and were most likely blaming yourself about the whole thing.
He sighed to himself and gestured his arms to you to show he wanted you to go to him.
“Come here Jagiya.”
Your eyes go wide for a second at Yoongi’s command to want you near him. You slowly shuffle over to him until your standing in between his legs. He wraps his arms around you middle and moves you a few inches closer to him. He rests his head against your stomach and you tangle you fingers through his hair.
This is how you both usually comfort each other. Either by one of you sitting and the other standing, or while you're both cuddling in bed. There’s been a lot of similar upsetting events happen in both your lives, but you always came to each other for comfort like this.
His hands around your torso rest on your hips and after a few moments of you both sitting in this comfortable state, he takes his head off your stomach and looks up at you.
“Are you okay?”
And this question, this simple and normal question, completely breaks you.
You should be the one asking this question. You should be the one trying to comfort him, but instead he’s worrying about how you're feeling and going as far as to stop looking at his phone, waiting to hear his career is over, to worry about you.
Your lip starts to wobble and multiple tears fall out of your eyes. You try to wipe them away quickly, but they keep falling.
Yoongi’s eyes go wide when he sees your tears and he stands up immediately. Without saying anything, he pulls you out of the living room by your hand and brings you to his bedroom.
Forgetting about the phone call he’s been waiting for all day.
The second his bedroom door shuts behind him, he pulls you against his chest and wraps his arms around your neck to keep you close to him. You whale out a sob into his chest and you're crying increases. Your hands are bunching his shirt to try and keep yourself grounded, but you keep crying hysterically.
You know you shouldn’t be crying. You know you shouldn't be making a scene like this when it’s Yoongi’s career and dreams on the line, but you can’t help it. What if they call and tell him straight up his career is over. Or even worse, what if they make him choose between either you or his career with BTS. You automatically think he would choose BTS.
Which person wouldn’t choose fame over a girlfriend? Years before you entered his life, that’s what his choice always was.
It wasn't until you met two and a half years ago, when love at first sight became more than just a thing you see in movies, that this mentality of his changed. He didn’t want to continue having the life he was living without you. He would see you anytime he had the chance, and even going as far as sneaking you on their recent tour because he always wanted to be with you.
That was easy to do because you just blended in with he rest of their crew, but now, two years later from when your relationship became official, everyone knows about your relationship because of one damn photo taken at the worst moment.
After your crying began to settle, Yoongi let go of his strong hold on you to let you look up at him. He didn’t let you go far, as he still had his arms around you, but enough so he can look into your blood shot eyes.
This brought a pointed frown on his face and you tried to smile at him and show you were alright, but it came off weak and wobbly.
You tried to reassure him with your words instead, since you didn’t want him to worry about you when there were more important things to worry about.
“I-I’m okay, trust me. Go back out there, and wait for your phone call.”
Yoongi tilted his head to the side because he caught your obvious lie.
“Y/n, Jagiya, your lying. You don’t have to pretend to be strong for me.”
Your lip started wobbling again, but you didn’t let anymore tears fall. You looked down to the ground and tried to focus on a crack in the flooring to prevent yourself from crying more.
“But it’s my fault,” you whispered to him thinking full well he believes the same thing.
“No, it’s not!”
Your head whipped up to face his again because of both his answer to your statement and his tone of voice. Yoongi wasn’t going to let you blame yourself for something neither of you could control.
Granted, if you two didn’t start the relationship in the first place this wouldn’t be a problem now, but Yoongi very much knows that will never be an options either.
“It’s not your fault. Don’t say that shit because you know it’s not true.” He cupped your face in his hands and forced you to stare into his eyes. “We decided to go out that night. We wanted a little freedom in our relationship. It’s both our faults that we got caught, but it’s not our faults that it’s so ‘bad’ for me to be in a relationship in the first place.”
Yoongi rolled his eyes at the last bit. Him, you, and the rest of the BTS members all think the rule of no public dating is stupid. We all understand why that rule is in place, to make sure no fans stop loving them over a relationship, but we all don’t like or understand why it’s so enforced.
But these facts don’t stop you from believing this is all your fault.
“But if I wouldn’t have asked you to-“
Yoongi cut you off and pulled your face closer to his, “Don’t even think about it! That’s not your fault either. We’ve always been careful and separated ourselves from each other in public. I agreed to go with you, and I still went knowing the risks… there’s nothing more to it Y/n. Accidents happen.”
He presses his forehead to yours hoping it would be an extra push towards you believing what he saying. You inhale the sweet smell of his cologne since he’s now so close to you, and begin to breath calmly again.
Accidents do happen, but you never expected to be involved with one so big it affects so many things and people. That’s why you blamed yourself in the first place. You thought if you just blamed yourself, it would be a better outcome for Yoongi, but that’s not how these things work.
The point he’s trying to make is that there’s no point in blaming yourself especially when it takes two people to create a relationship scandal. You may still think in the back of your mind that it’s your fault, but by what Yoongi is saying and how close he’s holding yourself to him you can’t help but feel a lot better then before.
“Alright - I guess you're right.”
Yoongi’s gummy smile returns and you return a tight lipped smile back to him.
His hands moves down your face, down your shoulders and arms, until they stop at your hips. He moves your hips back and forth to make you sway and you can’t help yourself but smile a real smile at him. One with teeth and all.
This man, this beautiful talented man, is the love of your life. He knows when you're sad and knows just the things to do or say to make you happy. You don’t want to spend a second of your life without him, and with this thought of yours brings a new worry to light. One that you can’t keep bottled up, and feel the need to ask.
“What are you going to say if they make you choose?”
Yoongi’s eyes snap up towards your face from where they were originally looking at his hands on your hips. He raises an eyebrow at you to silently ask, what do you mean?
“If they make you choose between your career or me-“ His smile falls and his lips part in surprise. “-what are you going to choose?”
What surprised you about his answer, was that he didn’t hesitate.
“You.”
You shook your head because you felt his quick answer gave you whip lash. You almost felt like you didn’t hear him correctly, but there’s no way you didn’t since he said it so clearly and he’s standing so close to you.
“B-but Yoongi, your career-“
He cuts you off, “Doesn’t mean anything without you in it! I spent years without someone like you in my life, and I thought that my life was going perfect when I just had my music and fans… But then you entered my life and that all changed. I had... I had someone to call home again.”
You felt a tear fall down your cheek, but this time it was a happy tear by what Yoongi just said to you. He wiped the tear from your eye with his thumb and pecked you on the lips with his.
It was a simple kiss, but with all the emotions and thoughts that have been swimming around in your head today, you needed more than a simple kiss. You pulled him back down by his neck and passionately kissed him.
He gasped into your lips out of surprise, but eventually kissed back just as passionately. Both of your arms were wrapped around each other and there was no space between you two.
Today’s upsetting events made you both have a lot of mixed emotions, but with this kiss you basically just sealed your own contract. A contract between the two of you that no matter what happens, you’ll always have each other.
You pull back from the kiss are a few moments, but don’t space yourself to far from him.
“I love you Yoongi.”
He laughs at your random confession, but doesn’t miss a beat to confess back, “And I love you so much more, Jagiya.”
You both were about to resume your kiss, and maybe even let it escalate, but then there was a knock at the door. You both turned towards the door, but don’t separate from each other.
“What’s up?” Yoongi calls out towards whoever knocked.
“It’s RM. Our manager just called… they want to talk to you, Suga.”
Yoongi looks down at you again and takes your face in his hands. He kisses the top of your forehead softly, then pulls back to press your foreheads together.
“It will all be okay, I promise.”
You smile a reassuring closed smile towards him, and for the first time today… you actually believe everything will end up alright.

Since there are a lot more new fans since DCM/Atlantis era, I thought I might compile a list of the links and names of Minho's dramas and films he's been in! I'll put it all under the cut and I'll try to keep it update since he seems intent on being booked and busy lol
The Pianist (2010) [youtube] - "Oh Je Ro is a musical genius who had always dream of learning the piano, but had to work in a piano factory as tuner instead of going to school in order to support his sick father. He had despaired of ever being given a chance to learn and thought the name his father gave him sounded like "Oh, Zero", signifying his lack of hope in the future. This changes when he meets an elementary school teacher, Yoon In Sa, and begins a delicate love story with her." (personal note: While you can tell it's his first time acting outside of SHINee's mvs, he's still super cute (granted, I'm very biased, so that anything I say with a grain of salt lol)
Salamander Guru and the Gang (2012) [dramacool] - "A pair of common thieves and a young computer hacker run a fortunetelling scam, while helping people with their personal problems in their spare time." (note: Kibum and Taemin do cameo in this, as well)
To The Beautiful You (2012) [viki] [dramacool] - "A high school girl who's inspired by a gold-medal High Jumper devises a scheme to motivate him by attending his school."
Medical Top Team (2013) [viki] [dramacool] [Minho-only cut] - "A team of elite doctors treats patients while dealing with power struggles within the hospital."
Because It's the First Time (2015) [dramacool] - "A group of young people gather on a rooftop and tell their stories." (note: Taeoh's friends absolutely did not deserve him 😤)
Canola (2016) [dramacool] - "Twelve years after having lost her grand daughter at a market, grand mother and grand daughter become reunited. But things are not as good and perfect as they were twelve years earlier. (note: his first movie! 🥺)
Drinking Solo (2016) [dramacool] - "The story depicts people drinking alcohol alone for different reasons and the romance between Jin Jeong Seok and Park Ha Na. They both work at a private institute for people preparing for their civil service examinations in Noryangjin, Seoul. He is an arrogant, but popular instructor and she is a rookie instructor who struggles to survive in the private institute world." (note: full disclosure, I could not stand the main leads, but I was watching this for Kibum anyways, and he was phenomenal lol Minho just has a cameo appearance in this, and that's episode 5, I believe)
Derailed (2016) [dramacool] - "Four runaways trying to survive and make ends meet struggle day by day. Enter Ma Dong-Seok. He tried to help but they took advantage of the wrong guy. So it's the classic mistake of wrong guy at the wrong time." (note: one of my favorite roles he's done. he didn't have to go as hard as he did but he did and i'm grateful)
Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth (2016-2017) [viki] [dramacool] - "Revolves around an elite group of male warrior youth called Hwarang who grow through passion and love in Seorabeol, the capital of the ancient kingdom of Silla." (note: i have watched this....many times. I love it unapologetically. Kim Sooho has done nothing wrong ever in his life)
Somehow 18 (2017) [dramacool] - "A handsome orthopedic surgeon loses his first love who committed suicide when he was in his high school days. To save her he gets the chance to go back in time."
The Most Beautiful Goodbye in the World (2017) [dramacool] - "The story revolves around a family with their highs and lows when their beloved mother only has one month left to live." (note: I bought this one on dvd so i could watch it when I'm ready but it sounds so sad 🥺 i have to psych myself up for it)
The Princess and the Matchmaker (2018) [dramacool] - "Princess Songhwa refuses her fate of marrying someone who matches her marital harmony. There are four men on her future husband list with different fate signs. Refusing her fate, she decides to leave the palace and find her husband by herself. Seo Do Yoon is a person who interprets marital harmony signs. He is very skilled at his craft and, consequently, selected as the one to read the marital harmony signs between Princess Songhwa and the four men on her husband list."
Illang: The Wolf Brigade (2018) [dramacool] - "Set in the distant future where both North and South Koreas agree to establish a joint government, which has been in preparation for a duration of seven years, the plot focuses on political uprisings on opposing sides which grow fierce when a special police unit is formed to stop the chaos." (note: 🥺😭)
The Battle of Jangsari (2019) [viki] [dramacool] - "A unit of student soldiers on a diversionary mission for the Battle of Incheon during the Korean War in 1950." (note: yeah so i was a complete mess for like the last twenty minutes so just prepare yourself (it's well worth it, though, he was absolutely amazing in this))
Lovestruck in the City (2020-2021) [dramacool] - "Park Chae Won, an honest and overly passionate architect who loves the city streets. After a woman that he calls the “camera thief” steals his heart one summer night and then disappears, he is unable to get over her. Lee Eun Oh, a freelance marketer who spontaneously decides to adopt a false identity in an unfamiliar place. She accidentally ends up falling in love with Park Chae Won while posing as the free-spirited Yoon Sun Ah."
Yumi's Cells (2021) [viki] [dramacool] - "The story of an ordinary office worker named Yumi-from the point of view of the many brain cells in her head controlling her every thought, feeling, and action." (note: just, so adorable so far. Minho plays a side character who shows up occasionally (heavily in the first two episodes), but the story is based off of a web comic that I read when I found out he got cast as Wook and honestly it's worth the watch even if he wasn't in it)
