Almost done with my Wakfu rewatch so I went to pull up Dofus since I plan on watching it next… they took down all the eps with subs and put them all back up without any subs… not English not French just no subs. AUGH

They have autogenerated captions but with all their little fantasy names that’s clearly not going to work well.

#honestly I can do it but I’m gonna get fatigued after a few eps if I don’t even have French subs #so I’ll need to take more breaks #legitimately I kinda would’ve preferred to watch wakfu with French subs cause I could’ve understood #most of it and the English subs on Netflix are clearly the dub closed captions and are not reflective of what’s actually being said #legitimately was watching an ep today where someone said something along the lines of ‘a true hero never rests’ and the subs were like #‘no rest for the wicked’#also times where ppl are talking that don’t get any subs or subs when nobody is talking #but hey who needs French subs for the French show there’s Spanish and English subs!#oh god speaking of the Smurfs 2021 are even worse (also on Netflix)#you can watch the show in French #and have French subs #but they’re the French translation of the English dub #for NO reason #literally what purpose #I have watched this show in French with French closed captions they exist #why did you need a whole separate translation of the show

must be the masochistic bone in me that i think about the Merlin’s ending and i think “wow i need to rewatch Merlin”, why do i like to suffer like that.

#i have the 4 first seasons on DVDs so at least it's accessible #i should buy season 5 one day but it's sad #bc the coffer i have for the four first season is sooo pretty it'll stand out #.... though ineed to test if my DVD player is still eating up my DVDs first :(#and my real problem is that i hate that the only subs are in French #at least i can listen to the Eng Dub but man #the translation is so off that it bothers me to read with French subs #i'm so upset DVDs don't let me just use Eng close caption like come on.#when i started my Eng Uni our teachers were recommending us to just watch shows with close captions when we could #to get used to the sound and words and everything #it's such a free way to learn a language #and half of French's DVDs will not bother #they're just like 'be grateful we even included the english audio.'#disgusting behavior truly. smh.#ichatalks

now that im on best wishes season 2 (in the sub, dub wise its been “rival destinies” for a while. hm.) im kinda curious to see how i process these episodes in the present. i havent seen most of them since they aired when i was a kid and i remember it being a mixed bag? in that there was a lot of stuff i remember not liking, like iris’s dragonite and ash’s charizard coming back for no reason (actually most of the nostalgia baiting was stuff i didnt care for back then? bc id get like frustrated that besides charizard they didnt commit, like the caterpie episode), and decolore was def a hit or miss in its structure

but also, this season had the N and team plasma arc and literally solidified concordia and anthea as some of my favorite human characters, i do remember liking dawn and some of the world cup stuff (tho i dont remember a ton of it, i think i actually missed a few episodes bc i cant even recall if all the rivals show up for the world cup besides trip), and besides some forgettable episodes, i remember really enjoying the decolore islands stuff. considering its basically just them trying to capture the orange island arc vibes from OS and that i liked orange islands, i do have high hopes for it this time around. i’m excited to see how much my opinions will change and if ill like stuff like dragonite better this time.

like i remember not liking “all for the love of meloetta” or really that much of the meloetta arc for some reason... i actually cant tell you why i didnt like it, i think i was just bitter that i couldnt get meloetta in the game. but this time i thought the episode was really sweet and i appreciated it a lot more considering how JN would later build on what the iris vs cynthia battle set up. i think this season has some more to offer and im optimistic

#side note as much as ive been shitting on the dub acting for how stilted it all is... i may actually try to stick with it more #bc i think thats one reason why dp was so hard on me. i had to look at the screen all the time for subtiles #subtitles*#and it was sorta draining #but now i can like use the eps as background noise so yknow what i may give it moreof a chance #watching pmmm dubbed just made me realize that i dont think i process subs as well?#like for mp100 i think i have to rewatch it bc i cant remember that much of it #bc i feel like even tho the sub was fantastic (and better than the dub from what ppl have said) idk i struggled #but with pmmm dubbed it was a lot easier so yeah i think ill rewatch mp100 dubbed to give it another shot and process it #(ftr i do wanna watch pmmm subbed just to see the acting but just by watching a fewvids on youtube i felt a difference #in how my brain processed it)#idk what it is. its weird bc ive always had an easier time processing reading than processing sound #which is why i always need closed captions when i watch shows in english anyways #maybe its just all the music and other visuals and voice acting i can't understand kinda make it all clutter? idk #echoed voice

insane to me that not only will crunchyroll refuse to pay their translators livable wages but they also can't even seem to figure out closed captions either. like ultimately they just do not gaf and it's gross

#as a (mainly) dub watcher im so sick of having to explain to other anime fans why i need cc #because there are always those people who are like “if you need captions so bad just watch sub”#like even if that was the answer to my problem they should still have accessible closed captions by default #it seriously cannot be that hard especially since they want to move into ai translations #which is already bullshit enough but damn. if you're going to take the easy + bullshit route #then at least make sure you've got us all covered lmao #raypost
