Hii, I hope you doing alright!!

So heres a kinda fun fact, I've been learning kenjutsu (like kendo but in a more traditional way) so yeah I've been learning how to use a katana.

And well, I often edit character palettes from guilty gear accent core, which means I can see character sprites, and when I was looking at Baiken's sprites I started to analyze what she was doing in her attacks, and damn, first of all, Baiken sure is really strong, bc wielding a katana with only one arm isn't easy because:

1. The weight of the sword.

2. You'd have to constantly and quickly change the way you grip the katana to cut something succesfully, which is pretty hard at least for me, I tried doing some of her moves (since I'm also going to cosplay her I could try doing some of her moves) and the sword slipped from my hands often and I almost ended up hurting my wrist.

But well, now I have another reason to admire her, also I hope she doesn't suffer arm/wrist pain (she probably does)

I think I remember I saw a video that mentioned the weight of a katana and how it's not as light as it seems, especially when holding it with one arm, which immediately made me think "Oh damn she's pretty strong then regardless." But also now that you mention it, constantly switching the grip in order to use the sword properly takes some serious skill too. She's probably gotten the world's worst carpal tunnel at some point while learning how to use that thing.

(Also she'd most definitely have biceps I will not be swayed on this.)

Hey yall! I've been seeing some stuff simmering to the surface (ooh alliteration) in the mcyt fandom (specifically in fanfiction) and i just wanna come out and say this

are you writing an au with one of these topics:

characters who are siblings (but not in canon)

characters who are crackshipped

huge polyships/everyone's a ship

ooc behaviors (especially when its explained via backstory)

little to no canon lore

crossovers w/ characters who have never interacted

anything that isn't considered "standard"

if so, then here's some advice from someone who's also writing pretty much everything in that list:

If someone asks you why you made a writing choice with the intention of judging, say "I did it because I wanted to"

I mean, who can argue with that?

Now people could try and say that "Oh its not canon! But this is indirectly contributing to [insert vaguely related issue here]! Just make them OCs!" but what does that matter to anything if you just wanted to write it? To hell with the need for explanation, fanfiction authors aren't hired! Unless you're from the past and you're writing ye olde fan fiction for His Majesty King Henry in the hopes that you don't lose your head, you don't have to cater to anyone else with what you write.

If people don't like seeing two characters as siblings, or a lack of plot point xyz, then they don't have to read stuff with those criteria. There are some really popular fics and aus that I don't really like, but the way I get by is by not reading more of them and not criticizing them on tumblr.

Now, I know me saying this isn't gonna stop the masses from screaming into the void about how "this is bad! I don't like it!" (I mean, look at me; I'm about to lose my voice to the void from this post alone). I'm mostly trying to let other writers know that these people shouldn't pressure you against writing what you want to write. You have as much of a right to write what you want as they do to criticize what they dislike.

Trust me, I've written for others before. It's not fun.

At the end of the day, people are gonna not like things. We're humans, that's kinda our deal. Don't let someone's opinion on the internet get you down. Write and read whatever you want; there's always someone who will like what you do!

Addendum: I'm not hating on ppl who just say "I don't like this". That would be wildly hypocritical of me, someone who complains about things on an hourly basis. Everyone's allowed to be a hater. I just think that making judgements to a fan-creator's face, or claiming that something is problematic when it's just something you don't like reading is not classy. It's not EVIL, just not classy. (Especially that last part; not everything has to be about morals, but that's a topic for another rant ;D )

the dragon prince is THE MOST AWESOME, WONDERFUL SHOW TO EVER EXIST (imo) (and no, it's not related to lotr at all, though there are a few lotr references in it)

anyways the dragon prince is (trying not to spoil too much) an animated fantasy series on netflix; the main plot for the first three seasons is that two human princes and an elven warrior team up to return a dragon egg back to its mother (the dragon queen) in the hopes of stopping a war between elves and humans (this is like literally the netflix description lol)

ALSO I KNOW IT MAY SOUND KINDA CLICHE BUT I SWEAR IT'S NOT

before tdp, i wasn't really into elves/dragons/mages/that specific type of fantasy. but tdp is more than just that - there's amazing characters who have amazing character arcs and development, there's a LOT of awesome ships that i've completely fallen in love with, there's plenty of LGBTQ+ and disability representation in a way that feels natural and not forced, a fascinating plot and an overall really awesome experience. i'd REALLY recommend watching it if you have netflix (ok someone stop me before i become a walking tdp ad-)

Hi there! This is not offense at all, anon. I used to have the same worries at 23. I was afraid I'd have to give up my hobbies once I 'grew up' and left college. I never wanted to live the 'milestone' life tbh - I'm a childfree woman, marriage doesn't interest me, and I work so I can supply money for my hobbies. So I've always felt out of place in most societal situations lol.

Nothing says that, once you're out in the full-time job world, you have to give anything up. Watch animated shows forever! Collect that Funko pop! Draw your fan art and go to cons and read your fics.

Almost all of my mutuals on tumblr are 30+ year old people that write amazing fic while also living 'adult lives'. They have partners, they have jobs, they may even have children. One of my best friends from school legit still reads 400K fics and buys them 'bound' as real books on the shelves of the house she bought. You're going to still have naysayers in your life who think it is 'childish' or weird, but... that's life. Someone's always going to put you down for something you're passionate about, because misery loves company.

I promise you, my ass will be 50+ still reading (and probably writing) fanfiction. And I won't be the only one, because many 30-40 year olds on this website were the pioneers of the internet as kids and it isn't something that's going away anytime soon.

TL;DR: DO NOT FRET. AGEISM IS SILLY. READ/WRITE THOSE FANFICTIONS.

so, final verdict: I’m neutral on the Netflix live action avatar. It’s ok. It had some really effective scenes that made me super excited and cheering at my screen, and one particular scene that actually made me tear up, but also a lot of clunkiness and odd characterization and narrative choices that weakened the experience. Overall, it was decidedly average to me, but I’m really really hoping it doesn’t get cancelled. What a treat to see an entirely poc cast kicking ass on my screen. Now someone please give them a better script and dialogue for season 2.

Just finished Emesis Blue with my brother! My dog had a seizure about 40 minutes in but other than that in was great!!! The animation was so smooth yet had a nice heft to it. Also, scary!!!!!! It genuinely spooked me, and the plot was fun to follow!!!! 10/10 go watch Emesis Blue!

So, I know you probably get these comments/asks all the time but LIAB really is a masterful work of art! Fanfic or otherwise I don't think I've ever read a story (especially not one this long) that's kept me invested in each and every character through every twist and turn! I mean really even if I don't necessarily agree or like them I can sympathize with where everyone is coming from and it's just all so in character and flows so naturally & I know that can't be easy to do I could ramble on and on about this but wow thank you for sharing your writing! I look forward to every update it makes my day!

Even if I got comments like this every single day (which I don’t) it wouldn’t make receiving them any less special! i really strive to write characters that were unlikable but understandable, so I’m glad you appreciated the effort I put in! I enjoy writing the story so much even if the characters make it infuriating sometimes haha! (Looking at you zuko & iroh)
