You didn’t need this right now. You were already stressed and frustrated as is and Chanyeol just made everything worse.

With heavy footsteps, you reached Jennie’s car and you spotted her laughing to tears staring at her phone. You smiled and knocked on her window.

“Oh, God, hey.” Jennie said in between laughter as she rolled her window down and unlocked her car.

“Funny video?”

“Just catching up on some vlogs, oh man, I have to show you some videos when we get to your house.” Jennie waited for you to get settled in the passenger seat and watched as you raked your hands through your hair. “You okay?”

“I’ll tell you at home.” You sighed. “Can we get some things for a coke floats and kettle corn popcorn?”

Jennie started her car right away and pulled out of the school parking lot with determination. “Say no more, y/n!”

The trip to the supermarket to your house felt like three seconds as Jennie was anticipating for you to spill the tea. Your mother was in the kitchen when you got home and Jennie was delighted to see her. As they caught up, you began popping two bags of popcorn and poured coke over two tall glasses of vanilla ice cream.

Before you vented to Jennie, you spent thirty-minutes watching the videos Jennie wanted you to see. In the midst of frustration, the vlogs were a ray of light, making you laugh until your stomach hurt.

Jennie pulled up another window on your laptop and showcased the outfit one of the girls in the video wore. “Girl, you would look hot in that!”

You scrunch your nose. The outfit was an off-the-shoulder crop top paired with light denim high-waisted shorts; totally out of your comfort zone.

“It’s cute.” You admitted. “But I think it would look better on you.”

Jennie shuffled on top of your bed and sat up. “Ugh, y/n, come on! You would turn heads of both girls and boys! Let’s go to the mall next week and look for something like this. Plus, I need a whole new outfit for my sister’s dance recital.”

“For the cute high school siblings of your sister’s friends?” You chuckled.

“You know me so well!” Jennie laughed. “So, please?”

Your stomach turned at the thought of dressing up in an outfit like that. “O-Okay, I’ll give it a try.”

Jennie practically jumped on you, suffocating you with a hug. “Yes! Love you! Okay, now it’s your turn. What the hell happened during the meeting?”

Ugh.

You explained how tired and stressed you’ve been and that getting into an argument was the last thing you needed. Then, you dropped the bomb and told her about how Chanyeol was pretty much pissed off about how you weren’t attending the meetings.

“What the hell? You have your own responsibilities dude.” Jennie huffed.

“I know, but I’m doing the last questions for the math competition this year like how he did last year.”

“Oh fuck, so you’re doing the hard questions?” She sighed. “But still! You’re allowed to do your own things.”

You sighed. “I guess...but that’s not all..”

You then explained how Chanyeol also blew up about your choice in boys.

“He said what?!” Jennie tossed your pillow off the floor. “You want me to kick his ass? What the fuck is his problem?! He’s judging you about your choice in guys—fuck out of here!”

You flopped onto your back and grabbed another one of your pillows to scream in. “I don’t know what’s his problem, like what did I do…” your voice began to falter.

“Y/n. Can I be honest?” Jennie pulled the pillow away from your face and waited for you to nod your head. “I think Chanyeol is jealous.”

You sat up at an instant. “Jealous?! No, no, no, no, no.”

“Yes! Jealous! Y/n, you need to open your pretty dark brown eyes and realize that guys find you attractive!” Jennie put her arm around you and leaned on your shoulder.

Chanyeol? Jealous?

You’ve known him for a while and spent a lot of time together through the math team, but he was nothing more than a friend to you. Of course, you were dating Sehun last year, so you didn’t notice any signs of him liking you. But it seemed too weird. There was no way Chanyeol was jealous.

Jennie left your house around 8 pm and took a pack of popcorn with her. You sat at the dining table with a fresh glass of coke float in front of you. Traces of the jealousy conversation still lingered in your head and it made you plant your forehead on top of your table.

“Everything alright, honey?”

You peeked over to your mother who was heating up leftovers from the previous night for her dinner.

“Yeah, mom, just...stressed.” You said quietly.

“Want to talk about it?”

There was no shame in talking to your mom about your problems, but you didn’t feel like speaking to her about it at the moment.

“Not right now mom. I’ll be fine though.”

Sigh. You felt uneasy.

“Mom, you can have this.” You pushed the glass away from you. “I’m going to go for a drive. I need to clear my head. I won’t go far, I promise.”

“O-Okay, hon’. Just be careful.”

Where were you going? You just started your car and began driving, feeling the fall breeze against your cheeks. If you kept thinking about everything, you were so sure that your brain was going to start melting inside of your skull.

After driving around for fifteen minutes, you pulled into a parking stall.

“What am I even doing here?” You breathed.

In front of you was the gym Jungkook trained at. It was definitely deja vu because you were just here last night but under different circumstances. For a second you weren’t sure if Jungkook was going to be there, but you spotted his car parked near the entrance. You had the choice to turn back around to lay down at home, but you opened your car door and darted towards the entrance doors of the gym.

The gym was a bit empty, not as empty as last night, but thankfully it wasn’t crowded. You scanned the gym for the sight of Jungkook and you spotted him in the ring again with his coach. You weren’t even sure if seeing him was going to make anything better for you, but you walked towards the ring anyway.

“Oh, Jungkook, your girlfriend.” His coach said out loud.

Jungkook let his stance down and whipped his head around to find you several feet away from the ring. His coach gave him the okay to take a quick break to have a chat with you. He hastily took off his boxing gloves and exited the ring.

“What a nice surprise.” He chuckled. “I’d hug you but I’m all sweaty.”

“No, it’s fine.” You hesitated at first, but followed through with the hug you planned on giving him, ignoring the dampness of his t-shirt.

“Hey,” Jungkook leaned you back a bit and held your face with one hand. “You alright?”

Instantly, you cheeks flared. Wha-wha-what is he doing!

“Sorry,” you panicked and let go. “I’ve just been stressed out since this morning, I guess.”

“Nothing got better?”

“No, worse.” You accidentally blurted out. You had no plans on telling Jungkook about your altercation with Chanyeol especially because he was slightly involved.

Jungkook nodded and stroked your hair. “Have you used a punching bag before?”

“U-Uh, no?”

“Okay, Just wait like ten minutes and I’ll get you set up with a punching bag.” Jungkook gently touched your cheek with his fingers and walked back into the ring.

What the hell is up with today?

After patiently waiting for Jungkook to finish up, he assisted you in finding a perfect fit for boxing gloves, he even let you borrow one of his t-shirts from his gym bag so your shirt wouldn’t get sweaty.

At first, you were self conscious; you had no idea what you were doing and plus there were people around. You were going to make a fool out of yourself, but Jungkook encouraged you and promised to beat the shit out of anyone who laughed at you.

“A little too extreme, but okay.”

With each punch you threw, Jungkook praised you and encouraged you to hit harder to let out all of your frustrations. It was difficult, but little by little, you were feeling bits and pieces of relief. Your idea of stress relief was five cups of coffee and netflix, but using the punching bag gave the exact same feeling. 

Jungkook taught you how to throw an uppercut, how to block, and even a quick lesson on kicking. You were grateful that he took the time to teach you some of the ropes almost like how you tutored him. It was different, but it was exhilarating.

“Here you go.” Jungkook handed you his blender bottle filled with water and protein powder.

You sparred with the punching bag for about ten to fifteen minutes before you threw in the towel. Now, you were in the same spot as last night, sitting on a parking block near your car.

As soon as you are done making his protein shake, he offered you a sip but you quickly rejected it remembering how gross it tasted last night.

“You’re drinking chocolate grass.” You squirmed.

“Trust me, you’ll get used to it after a while. Come on, just one sip.” Jungkook loomed over you and gestured his blender bottle near your lips.

“Fine, but if I die—” you threatened him with your finger pressed on his chin.

You stared up at him with disgust before taking a quick sip of that god awful protein shake. On the other hand, Jungkook looked satisfied.

“So, what happened today?” Jungkook took the bottle out of your hands and sat beside you, barely leaving an inch of space between you two.

“Uhhh, well,” you started off nervously. “I uh, I got into an argument with Chanyeol.”

Jungkook tilted his head. “Chanyeol? That guy is so quiet, I can’t imagine him getting into an argument with anybody, let alone you.”

You chuckled. “I know, but he was just angry about me not showing up to the meetings. I can’t blame him though.” It felt as if this was the thousandth time you were explaining this, even if the only person you told was Jennie; having to admit it to yourself is what gave it extra numbers.

“I-I’m sorry, y/n. I think that’s my fault.” Jungkook dropped his head.

“No, it’s not your fault, Jungkook. I chose to help tutor you guys, it’s fine.” You boldly shifted your body to rest your head on his shoulder. It was a cold night, so even the littlest body heat felt nice.

It was quiet for a moment and within that moment, you were debating if you wanted to tell him about part two of the argument. He had the right to know, right? At the same time, he wasn’t actually your boyfriend so it technically didn’t matter. But ugh. Why were you feeling so damn guilty?

“Um, there’s more actually.” You said quietly.

“Hm?”

“I think Chanyeol was judging my taste in guys.” You admitted sadly.

“What?” Jungkook adjusted his body and you lifted your head to make eye contact with him.

“Y-Yeah.. he pretty much said I should be dating smarter guys..” Your voice grew softer and slower towards the end of your sentence. “And I’m sorry, but I pretty much stormed out instead of defending you or myself because I was enraged about what he said.”

Jungkook sighed and bit the inside of his cheek. He wrapped his arm around your shoulders and rubbed it. “Don’t apologize, y/n.”

“But still…” you lowered your body to rest your head near the crook of his neck.

You felt horrible. The least you could’ve done was defend Jungkook, boyfriend or not, Chanyeol’s words were hurtful. God, you felt like crying. Nothing was going right today.

“Ugh, I want to crawl under a hole!” You exclaimed.

“I’ll join you, then.” Jungkook said and held you closer. “I know I’m not as smart as you are, but I think I’m getting better, thanks to your tutoring and being on my ass about my classes.”

You laughed knowing he was trying to make you feel better.

It got quiet again, but the silence was comforting in a way. You noticed that your friendship with Jungkook was beginning to grow. 

In the beginning of high school, you could barely say a word to him. Then junior year rolled around and you saw Jungkook sitting in the corner of the classroom with two of his friends. The first thing Jennie said to you was, “look it’s Jungkook, the guy who put that stupid gum in your hair.”

Nowadays, it was easy to breathe in the same room as Jungkook. Texting and talking to him was always a great time, plus you expanded your group of friends by getting acquainted with his own. It was a wild ride so far, but you were beginning to see the good things flourish from it.

“You know, y/n.” Jungkook started off. “It kind of sounds like Chanyeol is jealous.”

You immediately pulled yourself away from Jungkook. “Oh, please don’t say that because Jennie said the same thing.”

There it was again, the stupid jealousy thing.

“It’s true! I mean think about it, Chanyeol is just as smart as you. He’s pretty much saying ‘hey, you should be dating me instead.’” Jungkook nudged you and chuckled. 

You shake your head and facepalmed. The idea of Chanyeol being jealous seemed too out of the ordinary for you and it was even weirder hearing it come from other people. 

“You sure have a lot of guys after you, huh?” Jungkook said.

“Guys? After me? Wha--?” You snorted which turned into a full-hearted laugh. “There are no guys, Jungkook.”

“Sure, y/n--hey, you’re going to your team meeting tomorrow right?” He asked, quickly changing the subject. You nodded your head waiting for him to continue. “Would it be alright if I came too? I won’t bother you guys, I’ll just wear some earphones, sit in the back and do my own work. It’ll be like I’m in study hall or something.”

Having Jungkook in the same room as Chanyeol seemed like a risky idea. You were afraid Jungkook was going to say something to keep up his boyfriend-act and more arguments was the last thing you needed. But Jungkook was asking so nicely and being who you were, you couldn’t say no.

“Just text me if you need me for anything. I’ll be able to hear my phone vibrate against the desk.” You set out your history and math notebook in front of Jungkook.

“Alright. Just let me know when you guys are going to clean up soon.” He stuffed his earbuds in his ears and winked at you. “Have fun, babe—oh, hey, Chanyeol. Don’t worry. I’ll just be back here.”

You looked over to the side where Chanyeol was grabbing a few papers from the printer. He pressed his lips together and gave Jungkook a small nod.

Could this be any more awkward?

Thankfully, Jungkook remained calm and collected. He kept his nose in the books and checked his phone a few times; he even sent you a few memes, so you had to stifle your laughter whenever he did. However, you could tell there was obvious tension and you were so sure the rest of your teammates could feel it too.

You thought about wanting to apologize or running out of the classroom as soon as the meeting was done, but apologizing seemed like the best choice. Even if you already said it, maybe it would be best to say it again in a more formal matter.

“Y/n, did I do this right? Because if a problem like this shows up during the competition, it’s going to be over for me I know it—I can feel it in my bones.” Eunha buried her face in the crook of her arm as she handed you her paper.

“Let’s see…” you muttered.

Hmm…she got the square root…okay, she remembered to keep the parentheses...hm?

You looked up from the paper and made eye contact with Jungkook who seemed to be in a daze. His elbow was on top of the desk with his chin settled in his palm. Studying for an hour was probably deep-frying his brain, so you shot him a sweet smile to encourage him to keep going for a little while longer.

Jungkook reflected the same smile and went back to scribbling away in his notebook.

“Ugh. You guys are so cute.” Hani whispered.

“Th-Thanks.” You muttered realizing your cheeks were starting to feel warm.

After a few more exercise problems, Chanyeol called the meeting to a close and added that tomorrow’s meeting will be canceled so everyone can catch up on school work or extracurricular activities. You waltzed over to Jungkook and instructed him to put your guys’ things in his car for the time being because you wanted to print out a few articles for the project.

“Okay, I’ll come back though so we can walk together.” He gathered the bags, but left your binder so you could keep the papers nice and tidy.

You scrolled through social media as you waited for the last of the ten pages to be printed out. It was a good thing the printer sat near the door so you could just turn on your heel and walk out when it’s done printing.

“Alright, that’s it. That is the fifth photo of iced coffee I’ve seen—maybe Jungkook won’t mind going to a coffee shop before dropping me off home.” You muttered to yourself.

“Y/n?” Chanyeol approached you, keeping a two-foot distance.

“Y-Yeah?”

He tugged at the end of his sweater and stared at his toes before looking at you. “I’m uh, I’m really sorry for my behavior yesterday. I shouldn’t have said those things. I don’t know what’s gotten into me lately. I guess I’m exhausted as well.”

“It’s okay, Chanyeol.” You smiled, satisfied that he apologized first. “I’m really sorry too—for not attending any of the meetings lately. I’ll do better.”

Chanyeol smiled back at you and you noticed a light pink hue across his cheeks. He reached out and rested his hand on top of your head. “You’re doing fine, y/n. I know you’ll do great during the competition.”

“Y/n? Are my earphones on the desk?”

Jungkook’s voice came from a short distance and Chanyeol retracted his hand back to his side.

“U-Uh, oh! They’re actually on the floor.” Chanyeol stammered and pointed at the red wire sprawled on the tiles.

“Oh shit, thanks, Chanyeol.” Jungkook crouched down and curled up his earphones to stuff them inside his pocket. “Ready?”

You collected your binder and held Jungkook’s hand, lacing your fingers in between the spaces of his own. “Yeah. Bye Chanyeol!”

Before leaving, Jungkook reached out to fist bump Chanyeol who seemed to be standing awkwardly on the side.

You seemed to be in a much better mood, probably because everything seemed to be alright with Chanyeol. Although the idea of him being jealous still hasn’t left your mind, you decided to not dwell on the thought that much.

“Can we go to a coffee shop before dropping me off home? It seems like everyone has an iced coffee and I feel so left out.” You pouted thinking about the creamy taste of an iced hazelnut latte. Cold weather or not, you were always going to choose an iced coffee over anything else.

“Sure. Is your mom home? We can get her a cup of coffee too.” Jungkook offered as he opened the passenger door for you.

“That’s so sweet, Jungkook. Okay.” You smiled at him as he closed the door.

Since you were free tomorrow after school, you thought it would be the best time for you and Jungkook to finally work on the details of the visual aid of the history project. It was shocking how much eager you were to work with him these days compared to when the project was assigned. It probably had to do with the fact that you were spending more time with him or maybe your willingness to act more like a girlfriend. Either way, it was a positive change.

“Oh yeah, there’s no meeting tomorrow so did you want to work on the poster board for our project tomorrow after school? We can work on it at my house if you’re not busy.” You asked, watching Jungkook fasten his seatbelt.

“Yeah, sounds great.”

“Perfect! Okay. We really need to work our asses off tomorrow.” You fist pumped into the air and you caught a glimpse of Jungkook smiling down at you. There was a small feeling of uneasiness in his smile that you couldn’t ignore. Maybe he was tired from studying for so long?

Hmm..

However, now was not the time to overthink anymore negative feelings because for the first time in a while, you felt as if there was a little more life pumped into your veins. You planned to exercise peace and positive vibes from here on out.

I compiled all the advice and tips I have learned from myself and others recently in regards to studying. this contains information such as how to get work done faster, burnout, and more. 

I’m no where near the most knowledgeable on any of this and it is all my personal ideas/ ideas I like from others/books I’ve read. if something doesn’t work for you that’s fine! everyone does things differently. ; 

planning:

some people write down every little task like “take out the trash” or “refill pen” either to help them remember or because it can be very satisfying to cross more things off your list.  I personally don’t because having a long to-do list makes me anxious. 

plan in breaks to!! I don’t plan them in every day b/c I never know when I’m going to get tired, but I do try and plan so my sundays have a lot of free time. It’s kind of my reset day for the week (also helps w/ avoiding burnout)

should you do work in advance for the oncoming week?

again, I feel like it depends. if you have a really busy week, then you may want to. But if you’re like me and already have a lot of work on the weekend, plus you’ll forget any material by the time it’s due to go over, you may not need to. 

motivation: 

I’m working on complying a masterlist of everything that gives me motivation (books, posts, quotes, etc) but until then here is this one post from languagesarehardtolearn and idk why exactly but I just love it:

burnout: 

I just recently came back from a HUGE period of academic burnout. my first semester was a  little rough and this bled into my language studies as well. I barely kept up spanish and completely dropped french except for what I was doing in school (which wasn’t much, I’m taking an on-level french class this year b/c of the way my schedule worked out). I’m just going to put it out there that I’m still struggling a lot w/ burnout and if anyone has any advice pls let me know!

if when you burnout: 

find a good time to take a huge break y’all. after midterms I took about a week off before I even touched anything. during this time I just did whatever the hell I felt like w/ no regards to whether or not it was productive or helping me achieve goals. 

I know a lot of people like to talk to friends and hang out with them and if that works for you go for it. I ended up going through a period where I didn’t talk to friends much (however I did talk to some people I wasn’t as close with which was actually really nice.) and just wanted to be alone to heal. 

minimizing burnout:

you’re probably going to burn out eventually, but hopefully the number of times/ the length of time you are burnt out can be minimized. 

especially recently with this idea of “using all your down time” and “constant productivity”, we start packing work/studying into every second of our lives. 

this causes me to burnout quickly. I’m trying to take more moments to simply let my brain think about whatever it wants instead of focusing it on school. when every minute is planned out to be useful I get exhausted quickly. 

taking breaks of course! again, I try to keep sundays fairly open. I use them only for studying for tests the following week, and even that I mostly do on saturdays. 

misc.: 

lovelybluepanda had an interesting post about how tasks take up the amount of time that you give them. so if you give yourself 1 hr to complete something that could probably be done in 30 min, you end up telling yourself  there’s no need to work super hard to get it down b/c you have so much time to do it. however, if you give yourself 20 min to complete something then you might just be able to get it down then. of course you still want to make sure you have enough time so don’t do it last minute, but maybe a little time pressure can help. If you end up needing more time, you still want to make sure you have it (ie: this doesn’t mean you should do the task poorly or last minute. we still want quality folks!)

Yellowstone Trip Part 2

Day 3

Too dang early. We knew what we’d see because we were warned. A black, bear shaped blob, and may I present: The Blob

We were out at the parking area by six, the sun wouldn’t be up high enough to make things visible until at LEAST 6:45. And by that point, the bear blob was already on its way, slowly sauntering back up the hill to the trees.

It was pretty at least

You could barely make out the carcass sticking out of the water, and in the dim light, we didn’t even realize there were two more smaller ones, just down the hill from the cars.

This would be dragged up and out within the next couple days, and we’d get MUCH better looks at the bears.

Our only other real plans for the day were a snowshoeing hike, and driving around through the park to see what wildlife we could see.

As we continued on, we spotted some frisky bison near the side of the road, fighting each other. And when we pulled over to watch, we heard a weird sound that turned out to be a very irritated coyote. Then we noticed a crowd up the road a ways with scopes out, but nobody hiked up to ask what was up.

As it turns out. That crowd was the wolf crew and some fans. And because it took so long for any of us to decide to hike up there, we missed some prime wolf viewing. And by prime, I mean, you needed a scope to see them and they were still pretty small, but still! Our tiny group chatted them up, then went to go talk to the rest of our class and let them know what we learned. The Prospect pack had made a kill up on a far peak and that place was the best vantage point to see it, but you NEEDED a scope and even then it was hard to see.

Ah well. We had all week to see wolves, and we planned to chat with every wolf crew car we could find all week until we saw them.

In the mean time, we headed up the road a ways further to the Lamar Valley, which is a GORGEOUS area with a wide open river basin, gentle slopes, surrounded by rugged, rocky snow covered mountains. Its higher elevation meant that most everything besides the road still had a decent amount of snow on it. We stopped at a rest area and one professor gave us a talk about the elk follows we would be doing throughout the rest of the trip. We would be observing an individual within a herd and record its condition, position, location, and behavior in an attempt to document vigilance in elk based on a variety of factors.

We arrived at Pebble Creek, apparently a campground, not that you could tell with all the snow blanketing everything. It was time for our snowshoeing adventures. The film crew very kindly let me borrow some ski poles from them, which saved my butt several times from falling and getting stuck in the three feet of snow on the ground.

When the professors had been talking about this trip, they mentioned that the hike tended to last until they reached the point on the river where they couldn’t cross it.

What they’d neglected to mention, likely intentionally, was that they meant the hike went until they reached an ice bridge over the river that they didn’t feel was safe to cross, and that we’d be going back and forth over various ice bridges of varying stages of melting throughout the hike.

A little spooky, the thought of falling through into the frigid water didn’t sit well with anyone, but nobody had any ice bridge related incidents this year. Which was good, because in the history of the professors doing this trip (which has been happening for the past 20 years) this was the warmest it had ever been and the least snow they’d ever seen.

With how much things had melted, it wasn’t long before we hit an ice bridge that after a few people crossed, they decided wasn’t safe. So we had to cross back OVER a fallen log and hope that we didn’t slip onto the unstable ice bridge below. (Nobody did, of course) Following that, it wasn’t much longer before we reached a point where we couldn’t hike any further and had to turn back. The professors decided instead to have us hike up a very steep hill to the top of the canyon. I’m sure you can all imagine my horror. As the inevitable last person in the group always, and a weak climber. It was for the best this time because while I tried to make my first attempt, I got halfway up the steep hill, slipped in some loose snow, and then slid all the way back down.

Tried again, someone gave me some tips on how to not eat shit and die that time, and I made it up the first part, huffing and puffing and gasping for breath. Only to see that the entire rest of the class was already up the rest of the steep hill at the top of the canyon. It was about at that point that the two of my professors who had stayed behind to make sure I made it up the hill realized that it wasn’t some sort of act or laziness and I could only barely do all these hiking things that the rest of the class did effortlessly. They asked if I wanted to keep going, and let me stay there when I said I didn’t think I could make it the rest of the way up. Two nice people from the film crew stayed behind with me to chat and record bird sounds because there were birds EVERYWHERE. I’m grateful for them, because the conversation was enough to keep me from crying from embarrassment that I couldn’t keep up with the rest of the class.

This embarrassment, unfortunately, quickly became a theme. :’>

BUT then came the fun part, getting back down the hill. That turned into a spectacle that a few people have on video. We all collectively decided that the best way to do it without falling on your face was to just slide down the deep snow on your butt. It worked, more or less. Nobody smacked anyone else with their snowshoes, so I’d consider that a success. The snowshoeing was a fun, exhausting, full body exercise, but fortunately, once we’d returned to the parking lot, we were done with it for the trip.

Next it was time for lunch. We drove all the way back to the picnic area we’d stopped at the day before, which was our main professor’s favorite. We’d soon find out why.

A couple of bison were there and watched us as we dragged out all the sandwich fixings, but they weren’t the stars of the show.

That was THIS naughty little man. Or big man. There was a mated raven pair that frequents this picnic area, and our professor (much like myself) ADORES them. He uses their begging and food stealing as an opportunity to educate us about ravens, which I am so very glad for. I finally got a good look at the size difference between male and female ravens, and this boy was HUGE. Huge and not shy in the slightest

After lunch, it turns out our fun wasn’t over yet! It was time for another hike! This time out across an open plain to a small forested area where they knew a wolf den was. A mucky, mucky hike.

It wasn’t in use, and had partially caved in during the period of no activity, but it was still pretty cool to check out. The film crew gave us a little talk about what each member of the crew does and what their goals were for our trip, and then promised free UW swag, first-come, first-serve, back at their cars. We’re college students, we’re ALL about free stuff. (I ended up snagging a sweet purple and grey scarf with a little W on it, wonderfully subtle UW swag in my favorite colors that I’ll use all the time, it was PERFECT)

On the way back down we stumbled across a boneyard and found bones from both old bison AND elk carcasses, real close to the den. Super neat stuff! Half of it was still frozen in the ice

The hike back wasn’t long, but it was made longer by some irate bison who were blocking our path. It’s no big deal in a car but... When you’re out on foot. You don’t wanna make them mad. We ended up having to regroup, cluster up our entire class, and start moving back out into the field around the bison, giving them a wide berth. They weren’t pleased about our group size and all got up to walk across the street away from us.

This wasn’t the last bison blockade we ran into this day though. The next one came on the bridge over one of the rivers. Our favorite river. The one that stunk like sulfur each time you drove over it.

At this point our caravan started splitting off to do our elk follows. Our car... Didn’t have a ton of luck with it, but we got to see some other cool stuff. Liiike a whole bunch of ravens on one of the carcasses we didn’t see in the morning, as well as an eagle nearby wanting to have a go at it. (IRL gore warning beneath the eagle photos)

And then.... Just a little further up the road. We saw one of our cars pulled over. And one of the film crews cars pulled over, and they were VERY FRANTICALLY waving at us telling us to pull over. Stopped and found out there was a bear in the valley, headed back down towards the carcasses we’d just stopped by. We did a quick U-turn and hurried back up the road to find a place to pull over and view it. That place ended up being a spot of gravel next to the road with a hill that we all BOOKED it running up to get a good vantage point.

LOCAL LOSER FALLS IN SNOW DRIFT (or tried to slide down it and failed)

After some grade A bear viewing, we went on, trying to find an elk herd to follow. Instead we found another bison herd. We learned on the drive over that a herd of bison is sometimes called an obstinance.

We quickly learned why.

We spent a good five minutes slowly inching forward toward them before a park ranger police car rolled up, flashing his lights,,,,, We immediately backed the car up thinking “oh heck we’re too close we’re in trouble”. The lights were actually for the bison, but the bison don’t give a shit about your flashing lights. Or your police cars. He finally got them to move out of his lane by scratching on his loudspeaker mic to make a weird noise. They didn’t clear out of our lane of course. The ranger pulled up alongside us, asked how long we’d been waiting, then told us it was totally okay to be a little more aggressive than we had been and just keep inching closer to them until they moved. Which eventually they did.

Our first elk follow attempt came after this and was an abysmal failure. They spotted us immediately and we had to find a new herd. Then we finally found one and it started snowing, which made things a little harder, and a lot more unpleasant to sit there with the engine off and the windows open for 15 minutes staring at elk just sitting there eating grass.

Finally we finished our follows and got to go back to the hotel. We warmed up by just going to the hotel restaurant, which was a lot nicer than I’d been lead to believe, and had pretty reasonable prices as long as you didn’t go for the fancy steaks or anything.

I kept procrastinating, and the accident happened with me having no insurance. Lucky he hit me and is at fault. I'm trying to see what my options are. July 9th: what do you spend your time thinking about? 

Mostly uncertain future bc it scares tf outta me and by future means many things from research, unknown future +1, insecurities in life, my rather sad life here when you look from others point of view (not from mine anymore bc i accept it, really), lessons i got from the ffs i read, jjk (IMPORTANT MATTER), my financial plans, things i want to buy, photography project, lens i want to buy but i’m broke asf rn, my aestheshit project, etc etc.

Sometimes also i think about how everyone should get an equal chance / rights for education bc it’s important and i’m v sad abt the reality sigh. What i learned until now, umm idk if anyones agree with me but you missed a lot of good/great things w/o a proper education. I could make this a-10 page of drabbles, nah i should stop.

And oh but I don’t questions whats been there been here in our life, what is life and all those deepsht convos which pinterest even provide a list of (thafffaaak mate? lol i’m having my eyebrows furrowed massively looking at those questions) thats not my cup of tea. Haha. Yknow like philosophical shits and something like that? No thanks my brain’s exhausted already thinking about research and how to save human being using said research in which we couldn’t. And why don’t we just accept things (the right things to be exact) as the way they are, i mean for things that are already here and that have already been explained clearly before (if that makes you confuse abt what i mean but you got it? whatevs just hmu in case you don’t and i’ll explain). 

July 10th: what year has been your best so far?

This is really hard to pick bc my best times always come with a price which is super tough time after. Like in 2010, 2011, and 2014. Super happy yet toughest time apart from ujian apoteker period in 2013.

In 2010 i got to prove my self i could stand up in front of a very large intl audience i got elected for a position that I wanted to be. In seoul. Can you imagine that kiki the shy girl from the bleachers could do something like that? I wanted to runaway seconds before they called my name at that time btw bc it was just too much lol but i (barely, safely) made it. Ugh self . I went to japan too for the first time! So it was incredibly amazing time of my life i reached my goals and got a remarkably good mark in uni too (like highest gpa in my entire semesters in uni whooots)!! But after that (in between this time) came the downfall. SEP in ITB. Nuff said. Guess i learned a lot how to manage people and how to be a good leader in which at that time I wasn’t one, at all. Huhu.

In 2011 i got to spend 1 year in tokyo, i got my own dorm and live by myself just what i always dreamed of and also met someone whom i really likeD this year. But yeah it came with heavy angst, before i went to tokyo and during my tokyo time. When i was in tokyo, angsts mostly related to my poor poor heart but still. Guess i didn’t know what love was back then. (EMANG SKRG TAU JIR wkwk)

In 2014 i got to spend eid with my fam in melbourne and i fall in love with this city really!!! Beautiful place to live! (Or now i’m thinking maybe bc i was with my fam there bc tokyo used to be homey as well hahahaha) Been in my very first road trip under the southern star. Can’t describe how beautiful it is. I went to many places this year: tokyo, spore, melb, sydney, bali, tokyo again w/ my fam & my close friends and it gave so much memories to be cherished whole heartedly and then i came to okazaki and one of the toughest times in my life began. I literally cried everyday at the fourth quarter of 2014 smh.

I’m picturing best year(s) in such a pretty dull definition right? right? but as basic as it is, achieving goals, spending time w/ families and friends, going to a whole new places, getting new experiences that not everyone could have it, are indeed the right things to sum up whatsocalled bestyear :D.

So, umm major happiness always comes with a price. And pls don’t do this to me again ToT (the price for major happiness ofc, but happiness? I always pray for it everyday)
