He was the type that once he started to do something he had to get the thoughts out and in front of him where he could read them. A pause followed and Sizhui glanced up at Cheong-San. "Sorry." he said and ruffled his hair back from his face. He reach for his glasses which he should have been wearing to begin with they had been issued for reading.
Laughter escaped him it was soft and musical as he was bodily removed from his chair. The was the type of boyfriend he needed one that would absolutely just drag him from himself and his work. Sizhui shifted on his feet so he could spin Cheong-San into his arms. "We will go out, I owe you a night out, and it is my birthday, something other than sitting on the couch falling asleep watching Netflix." he confirmed as he let go stretching. "Just let me toss on something worth going out in ." he stated and a mischevious smile touched his face. "Did you want to raid my closet for something to wear out ?" he knew that his boyfriend loved his hoodies, at this point he bought them just for Cheong-San to steal them.
@achromaticstars
achromaticstars asked:
“You need a break from all that work. Come lay down.” from Cheong-San for the birthday boy <3
Sizhui glanced up from the computer he had been digilantly typing away at. He was writing for a medical journal and gave a small pause as he tilted his head to the side at his boyfriend. “Oh.” he mused “Have I been at this too long.” they both knew Sizhui lost track of time when he was working or typing. His brain disengaged from any time restraint preferring to get what he was thinking out into the world.
He stood and rubbed the small of his back allowing Cheong San to lead him away. It was Sizhui’s birthday he had shared that with Cheong San some time ago, but it was not something he regularly thought about. It was harder with his parents elsewhere. “You don’t want to go out to dinner ?” he asked with a tip of his head. “We should have noodles, either eat out or order in—for long life.”

It was the hard fall that caused the dislocated shoulder that was keeping Sizhui from being able to move his arm properly. He hadn’t expected this to happen, but the force from the hit he took was the reason why his arm became dislocated in the first place. The pain that followed caused him to realize that something was wrong, pain that he was unable to escape from. That didn’t stop the concern from the others who surrounded him though, a head disciple had been injured. He kept himself calm through for them knowing that panicking wasn’t going to happen the matter, the pain couldn’t be easily ignored though.
A throbbing pain that was enough to make Sizhui stop since he couldn’t travel like this. Something needed to be done before he could travel, his arm was completely useless at the moment. He couldn’t even move it properly.
And putting it back into place was something that he couldn’t do on his own. It was Zizhen who ended up coming forward to look at his injured arm. He probably was thinking the same thing Sizhui was while he really wasn’t for sure what exactly was going on with his arm. There was an uncomfortable pain and being unable to move it was enough to cause the concerns that were running through his head.
He knew that he wouldn’t be able to Night Hunt for awhile besides his parents would want him to recover. He knew how they could be when it came to him getting hurt whether it be a simple bruise or something more serious. Sizhui always tried not to worry his parents, but they were protective. They’ve always been protective about him since he was a small child even though a lot of his memories were a blur for awhile. That was until Wei Wuxian returned.
That was when he was able to remember everything.
The head disciple knew that this was going to hurt, but he couldn’t escape from this. He needed to allow Zizhen to pop his shoulder back into place or they would be going to find a doctor who could help. If there was one nearby to assist the small group.
Nodding at Zizhen’s words, he moved to brace his hand around the hilt of his sword as a way to help with the pain that was going to come. Pain that probaby was going to be more intense than what Sizhui was already feeling. Pain that hopefully wasn’t going to last for too long once his shoulder was fixed
“I’m ready, I think. Go ahead, Zizhen.”
A shoulder shouldn’t look like that, the awkward angle made Zizhen concerned, deeply so. Of course it would hurt, Zizhen took a steep breath and shook his head, “we need to stop.” There’s a firmness in his voice that he rarely pulled out. It wasn’t a suggestion, Sizhui was hurt and it needed to be dealt with.
While the young cultivator was a strong fighter, he vividly remembered Jin Ling telling him that he was a strong cultivator, that he would live a long life, in reality the future leader was more interested in skills that would help, rather than the sword. Funny how useful the night time reading in the library at his father’s complex came in handy, learning how to look after yourself and others was a life skill that was underrated.
“‘C’mere,” he ordered softly, a hand reaching out to gently guide the other teenager to the large rock where he could rest. He could fix it, or at least get it back into place and that would hopefully mean they could make it back to civilisation and a doctor. “Deep breaths.” He even paused to do it with him, taking a deep breath in for three, and then out. “Just keep breathing slow and deep, like you’re meditating.” The more relaxed, the easier this whole thing would be.
“Just, close your eyes and focus on breathing.” Sitting his sword down, propped up against the rock, he carefully wrapped his hand around Sizhui’s upper arm, just above his elbow, before a gentle hand came to rest on the back of his shoulder. He pushed his palm against the shoulder blade, and offered a small smile. When he was sure that Sizhui was ready, he focused himself. “Okay, on three? Okay? One…” a deep breath, “two…” he lied. Sue him. In one swift movement he pulled Sizhui’s elbow back, to pull his arm behind his back, pushed the shoulder forward, and then felt it pop. Catching someone off guard was easier, people tended to tense up when they expected it.
“It’s ok,” his hand came to rest on the other teengers back, “its done, just breathe, I know it hurts.” Like hell. Though, sometimes to make things better, it had to hurt first of all.

Prayers For The Ancestors
continue
It had been...well since he'd gotten knocked into the ground by the Dancing Fairy statue. He did not come here unless something happened that required a Night Hunt, and since their last sweep through there really wasn't much here. Still, he knew this was where Sizhui's family's remains were placed. Jin Ling still allowed Wen Ning to shadow them, to follow, who was he to say that he could not come to the place of his ancestors. While Jin Ling may be arrogant, and stubborn, he was growing up and he was coming to terms with Wen Ning enough so that he could stand to be around him. Still the invite to travel with he and Sizhui had been met with shy resistance, but he knew the man was following them.
They had talked at length about their families since both had that much in common. Both their families had committed atrocities. Not just to each other but to the world in general. It was why it did not matter to Jin Ling that Yuan was a Wen. His surname did not make him who he was, he made himself who he was. It made him unpopular with some of his more self serving elders, but a man should be judged by his merit, not his name.
So of course Jin Ling had volunteered to go with him, not just to keep him company.
He made a nuisance of himself at Sect meetings when they brought up the Wen, because he belittled Sect Leaders. It wasn't in him to hold himself back. He left restraint to those better at it then he. They were so proud that they had murdered farmers, elderly, women. How they slept at night was beyond him. It was sickening. As a younger boy he had not had all the facts he had been drawn into the hates of a war that wasn't his. He felt like he aged years since GuanYin Temple.
He moved around slowly he knew there was the spirit guardian here, the old man came and went to quickly. Still, he knelt to pull weeds and gather up leaves in his hands. It was so hard to fathom, how people who were innocent of wrong doing, could be put to death for...just living. It was revolting to his own thoughts. Yes, he would threaten someone, yes he would kick someone from his sect he was severe but he was also fair. He glanced to where Sizhui stood just watching him quietly. Until he shook himself out of it pretty sure staring at the other was breaking rules of his Sect or something. He finished the small upkeep he was doing before dusting himself off and moving to where Sizhui stood.
His fingers slipped shyly into Sizhui's hand, he was still not comfortable with feelings, but with Sizhui it was alright.”Yes.” he said with a nod he worried but kept his attention ahead of him did not glance to the older boy’s who’s hand he held or he’d go crimson. “I admit it.” though he would not to anyone else. He curled his fingers around Sizhui's and tilted his head to look at him and the memorial in front of him. "You did this ?" he asked as he studied the work. It was good. He summoned his Qiankun Bag, in his free hand and tugged Sizhui with him to kneel. "I bought these, so that they could be placed here." he stated pulling three small bowls out from the bag, and setting them in front of him. Fruit, bread and sweets. A small urn followed with paper money to be burned, it held the holes for incense. Which also joined the things they had gotten in town. "There war isn't ours, there hurts and their sacrifice remain ours..." he said glancing to Sizhui. "We just have to do better then those that came before us." he said softly. His hand slipped back into Sizhui's hand and he squeezed it.
"So many atrocities were done by Jin Guangshan my grandfather in the name of misplaced righteousness." he spoke quietly. "Please accept these offerings, it can not make up for misdeeds, but maybe it can allow a bridge between the past and the present to start to heal." he offered. "I am sorry." he head lowered though his hand stayed firmly wrapped around Sizhui's. He glanced sideways to him. "And thank you." and he was for a war that wasn't his, for wrongs done in the name of righteousness, for what his family had done. He was also thankful, for Sizhui and she that was honestly felt too. " I will bow to your ancestors with you...i..if you like." his voice low and not as boisterous as he usually was.

-[c]-
Under most circumstances the boy would not have followed jiujiu's brother. However, it was the look of panic and pain on his face that caught Jin Ling's attention and while he normally would have left Senior Wei to do what ever Senior Wei did when he was in Yiling there was something about how he moved, how hurt he was that said nothing about this was normal, and so he and Fairy shadowed the confused man. He shared a look with the Spirit Dog that said clearly something was up, two tail wags from Fairy said that she didn't even want to chase him, and the soft whine as she pressed to Jin Ling's hip also added to it.
"You shadow me, but under no circumstances are you to come to close...you understand me Fairy ?" he asked his dog. She was arguably more intelligent then some of the juniors that went on Night Hunts. He presented his hand indicating he wanted a paw promise.
Grudgingly the husky gave him her paw and Jin Ling gave a satisfied nod of his head. His bow in hand he watched as Fairy found a spot to sit and wait. Only once he was a block away did she begin to pace him. He nodded that was perfect. He knew it had to be odd to see a young man in Lanling Jin Sect colors out this far. However, Sect Leader Jin was here to help out on a Night Hunt. Wen Ning, and the rest of his friends had all agreed to show up here. Zizhen had even managed to convince his father that he was going to be needed. Zizhen was being prepared to take over his own Sect's leadership soon.
He followed just not too closely in a flash of white and gold. His fairy a flash of white and grey she was still distancing herself which was good. He didn't want her to scare Senior Wei and have him yelling for Lan Wangji. There was also that itching feeling that something was terribly wrong. The hairs on the back of his neck rose when he watched him disappear into the Burial Mound's there could be anything in there, since it had been besieged twice. Jin Ling knew the way, they had been captured and tied up in here after all. Still his foot fall was silent, he had excellent training as a ranger, like his grandfather on his mother's side. Jin Ling was capable in the wilds and dangerous places like this.
"Senior Wei." he spoke hesitantly his golden gaze going to his Uncle as he looked the man up and down. "You look hurt." he stated. Had he been on a Night Hunt as well and gotten hurt ? Where was Lan Wangji his uncle's husband ? He did not ask since Wei Wuxian did not seen himself, or rather he seemed more or less lost. He spoke his mind before he thought about the fact that a head injury might be able to cause such a thing, a demon who could tamper with memories also was a find candidate.
"Um." he shook his head no. "You and your husband went out from Gusu to answer a signal call yesterday." he stated as he adjusted his bow over his quiver. "Myself and the other juniors were on the way to meet up with the other disciples to see what we could do." he hadn't made it yet, but he had Fairy who could always find Jingyi and Sizhui so he wasn't terribly worried about being lost from them. He crossed his arms over his chest.
What was he talking about ? Jin Ling was certain they had been Gusu yesterday. Part of him wanted to roll his eyes and ask if he'd lost his mind. The Jin Ling of two years ago might have. However duty and responsibility had tightened up his attitude to a degree. "Look, your hurt let me take a look, I am not a great healer, but I have some skill." he had learned it right after Sizhui had been badly hurt by a monster when he was just on the road, not even a night hunt. Jin Ling reach out to gently touch his uncle's hand. "What happened to you, that your in this state ?" he asked "Normally your very dramatic." he stated as he set out an array of healing tools from clean water to bandages that could be wrapped around a wound and aid in the speed of healing. “Just not like this.”

He had explored all over the place he had managed to find a large store that still had the goods he needed to prepare the favorite food of his other half. Lan Sizhui was one who dotted on the person he was with. He loved Cheong-San and since hombies could handle normal food, Sizhui wondered if the presence of his favorite food might help the cravings of his hombie self. Sizhui had gone looking for the man who created the virus so he had more insight into it. However, he was very exclusive he didn't think he had done a bad thing. In a way it wasn't it was done out of love ever how misguided it might have been.
Still.
Sizhui was the justice in the city now. He did not take well to the military within the walls. He protected the humans that were slowly emerging the people that the hombies had helped to dig from the ruins done by their own people. SIzhui was trying to help his people get their feet back under them. He still kept them hidden, he still kept them safe from what others might do to them. He had offered his medication to hombies who desired it. He was all time tweaking the medicine and attempting to make it better. While he was no such creature himself he was a finely tuned human, and as a martial artist under the tutelage of first his baba , than his uncle Ning, Sizhui was capable.
This was an old run down building that was being used by he and his little group of---were they followers ? Lan Sizhui did not believe himself some hero or some divinity who saved them. He was just a man doing what was just and right. He had taken the top apartment where he could grow vegetables on the roof, where he could work on his medicine, where he could have a life outside of the others with his Cheong-San. He was even going to support chickens so they had a source of steady meat and egg.
"Magic." he teased with a sunny laugh.
"Actually..." he said as he offered the puppy a bit of the meat and Cheong-San a bit from the stir fry he had going in another pan. "We are slowly working on what normal will be now." he said as he glanced over his shoulder at his other half. "We have our home, our puppy. We save people, we do the right thing---" he said "I wanted to treat you, while we don't have an economy to speak of here yet, people have jobs--they have homes and they have a standard of living that's not scraping by. " he moved to put his arms around his boyfriend.
"We will never be normal again." he said "Maybe, people can start healing though." he did not stay in the embrace long though he didn't want to burn their first meal in their home makeshift as it might be.

He had found him and he was always worried about the fragile form that Wei Wuxian had. Once he had gotten over his own unreasonable anger, his own sadness. It had taken so much to understand that he had a right to be upset and hurt, that he had a right to his rage. He had to come to terms with it, and blood on his own hands would do him no good. It was a life lesson, but he had been more a child at that point then he was now. It was amazing what a year and half could do, but the GuanYin Temple had been something that had awoken him from his own bubble, his own sorrow and sadness. He could allow himself to be bitter, or it would eat him up inside, he got to see it every day in the face of his Uncle, who couldn't handle his emotions. He saw it in his ShuShu who had used and abused all those close to him.
It had gone a long way to patch up his and his Uncle's relationship. Jin Ling was young, and he was still learning what was right and wrong and what was just to him might not be to someone else. He was growing up. He had never known about the curse mark that had been lifted from him. Jin Ling still had discomfort in small places, though he had gotten stuck in a closet with Sizhui, literally stuck they had managed it. He'd had nightmares about being buried alive he still did those made him wake up unable to breath, but it was getting better slowly. He had been close to death, because Lan Wangji had managed to talk to him with Inquiry.
What bothered him most about the whole thing, was even with his name cleared people still looked at him like he was terrible. Yes, he had done terrible things. Who had, that was apart of the Sun Shot Campaign ? None of them were without blood on their hands. He had died and still, people were out for his blood.
Everyone in their family had a reason for nightmares, Jin Ling was just glad his was slowly going away. It helped a lot to have someone there. Something he would never have thought before. Mostly because Jin Ling was not sure he was worthy of anyone's love. He was hard to get along with and he'd assumed harder to love, because he was not quiet tame. He was grateful for Sizhui. When he was in Koi tower if his Uncle had nightmares he'd get up with him, and fix tea. It was never nice to have bad dreams, and was usually good to have someone there for you, if only to be silent company.
Jin Ling wasn't fond of the super cold weather, he was even less fond of the Cold Pond but he wound up in it once or twice courtesy of one Lan Sizhui. He was happy to help rebuild the golden core. All the ducklings were happy to help. JiuJiu had it rougher with the things that happened. He was still lost, and felt like he was abandoned Jin Ling understood at the same time he had tried to advise his JiuJiu to talk to Wei Wuxian, it had gone so-so. He was sure his Uncle would come around. No one but the two of them understood what had happened, and how it had happened and the emotions that brought around.
Jin Ling had received the butterfly from SIzhui telling him that his Uncle was ill. So when he had come to visit he had brought his lunch basket. He had fixed soup and a small meal within it. It was a good excuse to escape the confines of Koi Tower, not that he needed permission to leave. He just didn't tend to on short notice. He knew that Sizhui worried about his father when he had duties around the Sect that kept him from being good company. He was head disciple, he had to look over training and he likely worked on the night hunt reports with his Lan father. So Jin Ling could spare some time for his family and to bring the soup along. This was a similar recipe to the clear soup he made Sizhui when he was under the weather, only it was spiced, very well spiced. Not the normal levels of hot that his Uncle was use to, but spicy since he didn't want to cause trouble if his throat was sore. Food was supposed to help heal.
He would not comment on how he knew, but it was not hard to put together the pieces. Jin Ling held up the black and red lunch box. It was based on the one his mother carried. He was clad in heavy clothing, a heavy brocade of gold and the cream colored fur and hood of his cloak tossed back from his features. It was cold outside. "I thought soup would help you." he stated. Taking out the large bowl to spoon out the proper amount in a bowl. "I also brought you some lightly spiced pheasant, I know I am not suppose to do that in Cloud Recesses but I am currently here as Sect Leader, so I have some immunity to some rules." such as being vegetarian. He shredded the chicken onto the plate, and added steamed rice to the place the soup followed. "All of these are light because I don't want anything to heavy on your stomach. I have a book of my mother's recipes, and I thought you could appreciate having some of her recipes cooked for you." he stated with a lift of his chin, he was not shamed to follow in her footsteps to cook though more teasing about being little mistress had followed in Koi Tower.
"It looks like its going to snow." he stated "Do you want another blanket ?" he brought the plate of food to him along with warm tea. "I also brought Golden Kiss to you." he stated setting the small golden toned bottle. It was the specialty of Lanling like Emperor Smile was to Gusu. "you have to eat first though." he said seriously as he set it to the side table.

Is There Anyone Out There ?
He wasn't even sure how this happened.
Unlike his friends Jin Ling was not really into the idea of playing with the spirits. It was something that just seemed like an all around terrible idea. So now he and the other juniors were hiding behind a statue because they had done the most stupid thing imaginable and he had told them this was the most stupid thing in the world to be doing. However, Jingyi was determined and Zizhen was usually in if Jingyi was because those two had suddenly become besties over the summer. He wasn't sure how that happened anymore then he was sure about what drew them all together as friends. maybe more, as he shot a glance at Sizhui.
How they had gotten to this situation was interesting in itself. They had been doing Homework at the Lan's and Lan Wangji, the adopted father of Sizhui, had been typeing to family and the boy's had over seen some of it on the screen when he had gotten up to pay for the pizza. They had all hurried to sit and eat there was no talking during dinner, and it was enforced by how intimidating that Lan Wangji could be. It was when they were all crashed in Sizhui's room after pizza, and the amazing Jingyi 'are you going to eat that' who was now sleepy because he had four pieces of pizza.
Jin Ling hung upside down from the bed while Sizhui sat back against it. Zizhen was in the beany bag and Jingyi had been on a mat almost asleep. When he had come up with the question they all wanted to ask but none had an idea how to approach.
"So your dad have someone he was in love with who died ?" Zizhen inquired he was blinking back tears and looked so sad. "We should do something for him.'
"Yes but what." Sizhui asked as he turned the page of the Arithmetic Book to continue the homework they all should be doing. "He's been sad for sometime." the boy said.It was hard not to notice that.
Jin Ling was braiding Sizhui's hair to have something to do with himself. He didn't like talking about feelings, about hurt, about loss, he had been run through the ringer there. He didn’t even want to admit he had them. He frowned. "I don't know it takes time to get over death." he stated pausing to undo one of his own red ribbons to tie the braid he had finished. "I think dead should be left that way." his voice barely a whisper.
"But what if we can help ?" Jingyi demanded.
ZIzhen dabbed his eyes and nodded "We have to do something." he was resolute and thought it was also so romantic.
"I got it." Jingyi stated.
They all should have worried.
"Got what " Jin Ling asked
"IT little mistress." he answered before Jin Ling could throw a pillow "A Ouija board, it lets you talk to the dearly departed."
"No." Jin Ling said alarmed "Un un , No Way."
"It could work."Zizhen said "I read about those."
"We shouldn't." Sizhui thank ancestors for the voice of reason.
"I think we should, and I am going to get one." Jingyi stated "I saw one at a second hand store and it looked legit." he stated as he rose to his feet. Zizhen following suit. "Lets go Zizhen they will want to once we have it."
Zizhen nodded "Do you think it hurts to be dead ?" he asked as he caught his and Jingyi's coat on the way out.
Neither caught Jingyi's answer.
"This is not going to end well." Jin Ling said to the older boy.
Sizhui patted his hand "We can manage." he offered.
It seemed they could NOT mange.
They had tried to reach out to the spirit of Wei Wuxian, and they had contacted ....something.
A table went slamming into the closet he and Sizhui was in. A lamp crashed against the other one drawing shrieks that no doubt came from Zizhen or Jingyi.
"We are going to die. " screamed Jingyi
"I DAMN WELL TOLD YOU THAT WE SHOULD NOT FU---" Jin Ling lost his temper. Only Sizhui's hand clamping over his mouth shut him up. The older boy hissed a soft "Shhhh" since what ever was out there would be aware they were here.It was certainly aware as the door began to shake in its frame.
The old house they were in was not one people generally came too, so when foot fall fell outside the door of the room they were in. Jin Ling had to catch his breath. That wasn't a spirit that was heavy foot fall. What if it was something worse then a ghost ? His golden eyes were huge as he looked to Sizhui. Who's hand tightened over his mouth to keep him from making another sound. A finger to his lips.
It seemed the spirits had reach out to someone, and the boy’s had found what they sought, just not in the way they wanted to.
