Watching TDVTCTB again and thinking about how Rupert Sr says “all Christmas needs is a family” and the difference in the dynamic between Jack with his family and then Frankie & Donnie

Like, Jack wants everything to be perfect and picturesque and the typical “American dream” family. He wants a sense of control over his life and having a perfect Christmas, no matter the cost, seems to provide him with that sense that nothing can go wrong, as long as that’s perfect.

Whereas with Frankie and Donnie, they’re doing whatever they can to scrape by, but it doesn’t matter what they have as long as they’re together. They want the perfect Christmas too sure- they want to have everything that they never had. But only as long as they’re together, because they’re family and they’re all eachother have.
