Hello! I love your visual novel already sm but I wanted to ask how your thought process worked? Did you think of the characters first and then the whole story/place or the other way around? And will the full game be free or not?

Hello! This is Amelia, the game's writer. I somewhat spoke about this in more depth in this post here, but Doris & I created the concept/setting first and then created the characters around that. I remember excitedly exchanging ideas with her, and she would create sketches of those ideas, and those would inspire new ideas… it was a very fun, collaborative back-and-forth.

Here's an excerpt from that post I wrote regarding the creation of the love interests:

I wanted four love interests who would be completely distinct and compelling but still reflect the themes of Breathless Winds. The game’s story is about change and nature, so we wanted our characters to have a relationship with each of these concepts. I wanted to have a way to reflect ‘change’ and ‘nature’ in one - this led to me theming the love interests after the changing seasons. Although “the four seasons” is a very common theme, I thought that specifically the transition of seasons - Spring to Summer, Summer to Fall - would allow for more depth than “This person is serene but also cold, like Winter.”

The four love interests were initially distinguished around these themes (I also based them around the four humors to an extent, haha- I was really averse to having any of them overlap too much). Then, we decided things like their relation to the heroine, their role on the island, their backstory, etc.

However, I think that the story has shifted to better suit the characters as we've gone through development as well. The final routes look quite different from my original outlines in ways that I think are much better. Sometimes, I'll be writing and I'll think, "wouldn't it make more sense and be more interesting for Lantana to do this thing instead?", or so on, and then I'll try to adapt my original story structure around this emergent concept. Breathless Winds is a character-driven story, so our characters shape the plot quite a bit.

In terms of visual design, the character designs were mostly thought up by Doris, with some of my input. Doris wanted the designs to remain fairly simple while each having a unique 'appeal'. Gallardia is meant to be a big, cuddly lumberjack kind of guy while Rue is meant to evoke this idea of a gothy trans woman. Each of the love interests have some elements which reference characters or enemies from other fantasy games that were inspiring to us.

Although Poppy presents as a man through much of the game, we wanted her to still look like an otome or yuri heroine. Her hair style is meant to make her head shaped like an egg, which is the only egg-related joke we allowed ourselves.

I'm afraid that Breathless Winds will not be free on release, but we offer a free demo of the game's introduction as well as a free route preview demo-- now with scenes from all four routes! We'll also be offering a giveaway closer to launch, so please keep your eyes peeled! Thank you all for all of your support.

hi guys !! update on the cindphenon merch: they're coming along really nicely, and i should have previews for them up soon ! :DD

also little faq from the form, future order dates, sales misc etc below the cut:

will they be available internationally? yes ! but as i'm not based in the US, shipping to US and other parts of Asia/the rest of the world starts from around $10usd as i'll be using registered mail;; if you have a few friends in the same region as you, I'm open to group orders to help with shipping costs !

what characters will be available? as of now (and for the foreseeable future lol), it will be Rod, Karma, Rumpel, Fritz, Varg, Waltz, Lucette, Myth, Parfait and Delora based on the original game. all of them will have individual charms except Delora and Parfait, who will come together in the same charm as each other's front/back. Fritz and Varg will be available as both individual and same charm versions.

will Evermore versions be available? unfortunately, i don't think so unless this original batch does extraordinarily well haha// due to the style of the merch, it takes a long time to produce and i simply don't have the time to dedicate to so many characters again;; but if i change the designs...simplify them...hm...but then they wont match the og ver charms hrngh....i dont know haha !! im thinking about it !!! i really am !!! but ultimately this is very much a passion project for me so it is at the whims of my limited time and energy :"))

what about the results of the poll aka the front/back designs of Karma and Waltz? please wait and see when the previews are up! a hint: there were very clear majority winners on what the people wanted between the options :"DD

do previews include irl photos/samples? unfortunately not! i won't be receiving samples until sometime early nov, but you'll be able to see the full designs before then! however, i will be posting pictures of the irl samples when they arrive as well :))

when will they be available for sale ? as long as there's no delays/issues with the sample batch of charms, pre-order sales will open once i confirm the quality of the samples! so the projected timeline would be: - open pre-orders mid/late nov 2023. - to avoid Christmas shipping jams etc, pre-orders will close late dec 2023/early jan 2024 - shipping to begin sometime mid jan 2024 do take note that as this is a projected timeline, things are subjected to change. i will update the timeline accordingly when the ball starts rolling! if you're unable to purchase at that time, i will likely be opening a second sale after may 2024 to sell any leftovers after a local con. however as these will be leftover stock sales, i cannot guarantee that the character you want will still be available then.

i won't be able to pre-order from nov - jan, and i'm worried leftover stock won't include the charm i want. will you open pre-order sales for this set of charms again? maybe not. it depends on how well the sales of this initial batch does, as merch production can get quite expensive...if there's not much demand in this first round of sales and i'm unable to justify the high production+shipping fees, i may not be able to have a second sale. however, i am considering making other cindphenon merch as well (evermore charms, physical fanzines, but mainly Fritz + Varg related merch like a standee)! considering my schedule, these will most likely only be available post-may 2024, but i will keep you all updated on this! i will either reblog this post with any updates or make a new post on updates, so feel free to follow for merch news!

Love is Blind (Season 1) - Is Love Truly Blind?

Synopsis:

15 men and 15 women talk and get to know people of the opposite gender, in pods that have a thin wall with no opening. If their bond is strong enough, one person proposes to the other in the pod, without seeing the person they connected with. Only after their engagement do they get the chance to see each other and give the possibility of marriage a shot at the end. All the participants have the end goal of saying "I do" at the alter, but will any of them get there? It's a trial that has many obstacles, will these couples push through to the alter and even long after?

Review:

What a way to start!! I know I'm wayyyy late coming into this show. In my defense, I didn't have much interest in reality shows aside from the Circle before. In any case, I'm here now and I'm going to get to the nitty gritty with this show. With Season 4 out, I want to just binge it all in one go, but my aunt wants to watch Season 3 and 4 together (yes I watched Season 2 already too and I'll get to that later haha). I will preface this review with I did watch Perfect Match before starting this, so I do know some things that happen on the show. They don't go too in depth about it in Perfect Match, but the overall gist is there.

I'll start off by saying it's a very structured experiment which I found really interesting. It's not just a dating show where they talk to each other behind a wall like I initially thought. Very heteronormative, but I digress. I do like how they pick participants local to one area so they don't have to go through the whole possible long distance situation. I mean, they're supposed to be getting married with close to little adjustment to their existing lifestyle. Makes sense.

You can already easily tell who moves forward with the engagement based on the amount of screen time someone gets. Like how fast Lauren and Cameron got engaged, The whole Barnett LC/Amber/Jessica situation, etc etc. The only one that I was surprised to see at the end of the pod phase was Kenny and Kelly but only because we got ~nothing~ from their relationship in the pods aside from the childrens' book thing.

I was surprised as they were reaching the end of their engagement when Kelly had reservations about getting married to Kenny. The whole time they were so healthy and happy, I hit snooze on their scenes. I totally thought they'd both say yes at the end. I feel like Kenny was rightfully upset at the wedding. Kelly led him to believe she wanted to marry him. In the end, she let vain take over and suddenly started saying she wasn't physically attracted to him. Even after friends and family assured her that he's perfect, she let doubt take over. She wasn't open about how she felt in the end. It was a good thing for the both of them that she said no in the end but shocking nonetheless. Glad that Kenny was able to find love again after the show ended.

Again, I already knew about Damien, Diamond, and LC from Perfect Match. I'm not gonna pretend like I didn't know things don't work out for them after the show. I had an idea of what happened based on the previews they showed on Perfect Match, but out of the three, I was most clueless about Damien.

I actually found myself siding with him for a lot of it. Love Gianina, and I stand with her, but I didn't get the hate against Damien... until After the Alter *cough* Francesca *cough*. It got intense in a lot of moments. So intense that the calm/wholesome scenes felt tense. It was a downward spiral from there. I'm glad Damien said no at the alter because Gianina couldn't see how toxic they were together, but I feel for her at the same time. She's just someone who wanted validation in love. I don't blame her. In fact, people would be lying if they say they don't. Damien is more reserved and Gianina is more outgoing. Sometimes, those personalities compliment each other well (a great example is Cameron and Lauren who I'll get to later), but in their case, they clash a lot. Damien saw that and said that he didn't want them to feel that way for the rest of their lives. Reasonable. But... again, all that respect I had for him went to the shitter in After the Alter. Even Francesca gave him shit at the end. I was confused about the whole interaction between Damien and Francesca because they kept establishing that they were just friends but had a consistent sexual tension. I can only imagine how confusing it was for Francesca. To be fair to her, she doesn't owe Gianina any respect, but Damien does, therein lies the issue with Damien.

I just got secondhand embarrassment thinking about LC. In Perfect Match she introduced herself as someone who got dumped, but from what I saw in this season she wasn't even top 2. I feel like production kept her scenes just because she had enough impact in the situation to just not be ignored. It didn't influence anything though in the end. I do admit that I do feel for her when it came to the situation with Mark in After the Alter. It's a touchy situation, and I'm one who believes they both had a hand in the communication error. However, Mark is most definitely a scumbag for that, and that sucks to see considering how much I liked him during the season.

I was going to put all three in one paragraph, but Diamond's situation needed her own. I already heard about how she was portrayed to be biphobic with Carlton. She was pretty caring and open on Perfect Match, so seeing that talk caught me off guard. Honestly, shit was bad with her, but that didn't absolve Carlton of any fault too. Her reaction to him coming out to her was not at all accepting or loving, but Carlton also expected the worst from her. That alone doesn't fault him, but although Diamond may have been ignorant at the time, you could tell she was trying to understand. Carlton's reaction at the pool, in the end, made her regress back to her assumption about bisexuality. I will say though, that comment she made on her way out definitely came from somewhere and was meant to be hurtful which really disappointed me.

It didn't help with Carlton's interaction with Lauren in After the Alter. Now, Lauren and Cameron were my favorites in the season, so I got pretty heated when Carlton reacted the way he did when Lauren addressed some issues. The woman was trying to help him and he took it as an attack, leading to the last person in the cast having to walk away from him, in the end.

This review is already getting really long BUT if y'all remember my Circle reviews, I can go oooooon about these shows. ANYWAY, I was so shocked when Cameron got down on one knee. It was so fast into the experiment! Still, from the get go, they were the cutest and had the least amount of problems. The two biggest problems were getting Lauren's dad's approval (which I'M SO HAPPY HE DID IN THE END) and Lauren's (reasonable) hesitation in the end. With both those concerns, Cameron was very understanding and never let Lauren believe she was going through it alone. GET YOU A PARTNER THAT LOVES YOU LIKE CAMERON LOVES LAUREN!! What I did find funny about their situation is that I imagine they were so drama free that production had to make Lauren's hesitation extra dramatic to make it look like it was a bigger issue than it actually was. Even in After the Alter, they were just vibing and enjoying their party. They barely got highlighted outside of their own home.

Now... The bulk of the drama. Let's start with Mark and Jessica. First of all, I'm including Mark in this because he was thrown in the wringer with Jessica. I don't like Jessica. I mean, in 2023, she's definitely unbothered and happy especially compared to Amber, but in the context of the show, I found her insufferable. Did you not see the scene where she gives her dog WINE??

I digress. Yes, Mark and Jessica had an age gap, 10 years as Jessica won't let us forget, but everyone participating in the experiment is prepared for marriage (or at least claimed to be). Jessica had Mark. Hook, line, and sinker. Mark was so tunnel-visioned with a future with Jessica that even when she does everything to push him away, especially when it came to Barnett, he stays with her. I liked the guy, but even while watching I was thinking "there's such a thing as toxic positivity" and it encompasses Mark's unwillingness to see how harmful Jessica was in their relationship. She did so much to sabotage their relationship and he forgives her every single time. I was really wondering how much it would take for him to actually end it, and it looked like it was a good thing Jessica said no because he never would.

Jessica was definitely this season's villain. Though based on how things went in After the Alter, that title might've gone to Carlton or Diamond had they gotten more screen time. In any case, I actually liked Jessica at first. I thought it was good of her to warn Amber about Barnett when he was juggling three women. Granted, her timing was so off because she only did it when Barnett backtracked on her, so it didn't affect Amber one bit. However, her crawling back to Mark is where things started getting shifty to me. The guy was clearly not the first choice and she ensured that he knew that. Then, even after the engagement, she scooted herself closer to Barnett to kind of get him to reevaluate his decision to marry Amber. Very weird. I am glad to find out that she is married now and completely unbothered. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for Amber and Barnett (I think Amber more than Barnett tbh).

I applauded Amber and Barnett for not letting Jessica get in the way of their relationship. They were both so confident in each other that no one could get between them. The only thing that could was finances. When Amber was explaining her debts and living situation, Barnett was reasonably hesitant. It does kind of make sense that they would be the second couple in this season to be married. Besides Lauren and Cameron, they had the least amount of internal issues. Only finances seemed to be the problem with their relationship (other than some doubt in Barnett's family). Besides that, if they didn't fall in love in the pods, the certainly did during their engagement.

As far as predictability of the marriages went, I was right about Lauren and Cameron saying I do. I was most shocked about Kenny and Kelly. I find the show fun to kind of guess what couples make it at the end of the experiment. It can be dangerous to get invested in these people's personal lives though especially after the show. Of course people want to know how everyone is doing (hence why After the Alter is a thing), but it can be jarring to think about how analytical fans can be about picking apart their social media to find clues for alleged drama between cast members. Remember to be kind and know that you know maybe 1% of another person's life story.

hi, i hope you're doing well :) i'd like to ask you your impressions on vnc latest chapters. it went on hiatus now, but mochijun left us on a cliffhanger haha i honestly didn't like it because i'm not a fan of these "convenient timing" plots, but i'm looking forward what will she do if she comes back. even because we won't have an anime for a long time without canon content. an ova wouldn't be bad tho.

i also searched, but couldn't find a thing: did she take a break or it's a vacation of some sort? i'll be glad if she deliberately take her time. i am a bleach fan, and i know how it would've been important if tite kubo had a spare time in his last years working on it. both for the story and his mental health. so as much as i am crawling in walls for vnc, i'll respect mochijun's decisions. i also never did read pandora hearts, although i know it for quite a while, but i believe she spent almost 10 years publishing it nonstop. if she decided to clear her mind and not dwell too much on work (and develop burnout), i'm more than happy for this hiatus.

yes, the magazine confirmed she's on hiatus after the most recent chapter dropped. understandable considering all the extra work she did during the anime with the anime volumes' bonus content & all. she is still posting somewhat frequently on her twitter, though! she also posts chapter previews sometimes when new chapters are set to come out :)

as far as my opinion on the most recent chapters, i've really liked them. including the archiviste reveal. i think ever believing that noe was truly the ONLY surviving archiviste (especially when it seems rather heavily implied that whatever event wiped them out happened quite a long time ago) is kinda naive. like that alone kinda makes it seem less random if you think about it.

otherwise, this is a mochijun story. her stories are entirely based around having many twists & turns that seem very jarring at first, but as they're built upon, make a ton of sense, & also inevitably lead to realizing that they were usually foreshadowed quite early on, their foreshadowing just wasn't clear until their full part of the story is laid out.

as a vnc example: the second book of vanitas existing initially seems to be a reveal that comes out of nowhere. but you actually see the second book in the first chapter during noe's monologue about vanitas to amelia.

prior to the reveal, a lot of people just assumed this was the first book's shadow. but after the reveal, it's quite clear this is meant to be the second book.

so yeah, just give her time. it'll make sense eventually. she doesn't do "just for convenience" bullshit.

Okay, I don't want to sound dumb, but I wasn't on tumblr for a few days and then I come back and there's all this discourse about Bobby's last name? And a book? I'm so confused, is it okay if I ask you what's going on? I've just seen you reblog a lot of stuff so I kind of assumed you know what's going on haha. Thanks!

first of all, you are never dumb for asking questions, having questions is always cool in my blog

anyway, the Bobby thing and the book are related actually. idk if you were around the fandom in december, back then we got a book called "Edge of great" which was basically the show but in a novel form and narrated by some main characters (i'm not sure who exactly got a POV, i never read it), the book was official but there were details that were slightly different from the show i.e. the willex hug was a very quick thing, this was because the book was based out of the script, and those details were decisions made during filming.

basically, we are getting other two books, and there are previews available

one book is "Whatever happens" which is another novel that starts after the hug, but according to a reviewer is mostly flashbacks to when Julie's mom was alive, when the guys were alive, etc.

then, the other book "We got the music" is a look inside Julie's notebook and it's more like a scrapbook, here is where the Bobby discourse starts, because inside Julie's notebook there's an article about the guy's deaths, which contained the line "The surviving band member, rhythm guitarist Bobby Shaw, declined to comment". So we have a last name for Bobby, which a lot of people don't like and we go many routes from here

people saying the last name is bad because is monosyllabic, which is lowkey racist (many asian last names are monosyllabic)

people who wanted an asian last name since Taylor Kare (Bobby's actor) is philipino, which... it's a whole thing because Steve Bacic (Trevor, aka the same person lol) isn't philipino so with any last name we're going into a territory where this is either a case of a poc playing a white dude, or a white dude playing a poc (which tbh i prefer the first one but i don't feel i have the authority to say too much since i'm not asian)

people not liking that Bobby's initials are BS, but for what I have seen this one is mainly a meme

people debating if this is his official name or not since the first book had some differences with the actual show

people who think it's just a name

there's some debates about "whatever happens" as well, but it's not as big as the Bobby discourse, they are mainly about the fact that it looks like it's going to be too juke centric since the first chapter is literally Alex and Reggie going to look for Willie, while Luke stays with Julie and sappy talk ensues

hopefully they do give attention to the rest of the characters too, but we can't know yet, we can only imagine the chaos of Luke working at a diner (which is mentioned in that book, he used to work at a diner, no i won't let it go)

Alright, chapter 8! And man is there a lot to talk about here. I don’t really have any pre-content things to say, so we’ll just hop right into it today!

[No. 8 - Rage, You Damned Nerd]

I swear, this first page has a LOT to talk about on it, so I’ll go from panel to panel and do some rambling thoughts on each segment.

First off, UA doesn’t actually handle the costumes the kids get! It’s support companies affiliated with the school that does - which makes sense, since the school has to focus on teaching their support students before letting them get their hands on actual costumes that these kids might be fighting in.

I mean, they seem to be allowed to practice on like, minor support stuff (read: Mei making Izuku his new gloves post-Nighteye or somewhere around there) but not full costuming, which is… actually a bit reassuring? But also explains some of the lag time in getting costume repairs / upgrades since they’re probably busy companies. It also explains why there probably aren’t major alterations to any costumes besides between the summer and winter variants, since it would be time-consuming to remake these costumes so regularly.

(It still doesn’t excuse some of the costumes the kids got, but that’s more on the whole ‘eye candy’ thing for readers than actual practicality, so whatever.)

(Also, I can’t get over the fact that Snipe has a support company. Fucking Snipe. Guess we know another canon or likely-canon Support teacher.)

Next we get a preview of what the kids sent in for specifications for their costumes:

We get a bit of insight into a few of the characters - as background stuff, we get Shouji, Mineta, Aoyama, and Sato. Mineta got pretty dunked on for char design and costuming, and Aoyama’s costume almost looks like a magical girl outfit like this, which honest to god would have been fantastic to see him in. More interesting (at least to me) are the other three: Ochako, Tenya, and Katsuki.

Ochako first, because that pressure point thing is interesting, and I dunno how often those actually come up in fics besides a passing mention, like. What if her support bracelets / neck piece broke during training / a mission / whatever? Would she suddenly have to fight through the nausea? By the point of current canon (War Arc) she’s probably trained enough that she doesn’t need them as much, but man, it could be an interesting little thing to explore, like, post-Kamino.

Tenya is a bit surprising, since we know he comes from a well-off hero family. Logically, this was before the whole Hosu / Ingenium plotline was really developed, so Tenya didn’t have that to fall back on, or it could be argued that the support company that Ingenium is associated with also works with UA. Alternatively, it could be that either Tenya didn’t want to rely on his family (which seems silly when they’d know how to work with his quirk best) or UA is very firm on ALL costume stuff going through them…

But then again, Katsuki. Oh god, Katsuki. What fucking support company looked at this kid and went ‘yeah we should give him a way to store more explosives AND give him bombs’ and just. Did so. Why did UA not vet that. Maybe the support company didn’t realize how strong his explosions were without the gear, but UA, man, I just. I suppose they had no way of knowing how reckless he’d be with them, but honestly, after the battle trials, they should have been fucking yoinked from him so damned fast.

Anyways, onto other parts of Katsuki’s costume, we see he’s a fucking dork. Possibly what lowered their guard. ‘Something scary’ and ‘Dynamighte all over’. What the hell, kid. At least your designer stuck close to your design… including the huge-ass clunky gauntlets. Man, the Musketeer Trio movie poster ones are so much better looking and so, so streamlined. Works of art, they are.

Moving on, we get a bit of a flashback to ~three weeks ago, which by the calendar would be around March 20th? So a few weeks after the Entrance Exam. And Izuku is only NOW getting around to updating the quirk registry? Izuku baby seriously, how the FUCK did none of the UA staff notice the ‘quirkless’ on your application form at any point before this?

But yeah, he’s worried about his registry, so he calls Toshinori, who explains the update process. It gives the example of someone who might alter their stuff with updated information, with one or two allowed - though major ones aren’t accepted. Toshinori then says it’ll probably be okay since he started with nothing, then tries to correct himself to ‘definitely’, only to get cut off because Izuku accidentally hangs up in a panic when Inko calls out that she’s home. Haha poor Toshinori, and poor Izuku, the two anxious dumbasses.

Anyways, moving on from that is Inko showing off the jumpsuit she made, with Izuku surprised. She admits it’s not the coolest, but she based it off of the design in his notebook (the one we saw back in chapter 1). She tells him she regrets giving up on him back then, and how he never quit regardless of her faith. She apologizes and says from there on she’ll be cheering him on with all she’s got.

Izuku’s narration notes that it’s a symbol of his mom’s love, and that he couldn’t wear anything else, even if it’s not ��efficient’ or ‘cutting edge’. (Or even at all decent looking.) And it’s also hinted through the present thoughts on it that it’s meant to be an homage to All Might (the smile and the hair pieces) which is just such a dorky thing.

We get to the wide-spread of hero costumes, which- wait a second.

That’s Momo’s initial hero costume design???? Why did Hori not stay with that??? It’s a LOT better than the stuff we’ve seen her in later! Like, sure, it’d still be improved with the main opening being her stomach and not her chest, but this still looks like actual human clothing and not a sexy Halloween costume variant of her hero uniform. Fucking hell, now I’m even more mad.

Tsuyu’s costume meets the approval of the discord server as basically ‘no changes needed’ asides from maybe the goggles being a bit bulky.

Tenya’s costume, I’m sorry, I know it’s an homage to your brother / family, but were the additional pipes really needed? Also, the helmet isn’t a bad idea since he goes fast, and bugs in the mouth/teeth have to suck, but it just looks so damned Gundam-y I can’t help but laugh a little.

Aoyama is Aoyama. I’m actually a bit disappointed now that it’s not a magical girl costume, but alas, I suppose even Hori couldn’t be that brave.

Kaminari… I forgot he had that headset thingy.

Don’t really have much else to say about anyone else, so let’s move on.

Izuku bugs out a bit about Ochako’s costume/appearance, while she compliments his more practical looks and laments not being specific, saying it’s a bit too puffy and curvy for her. Which means it’s more the accessories which seem to be her issue with it over the main costume itself? Huh.

Anyways, after All Might confirms they’re all there, he notices Izuku’s headpieces, which are a match to his costume, and has to turn to muffle a laugh for how obvious a reference it is. Tenya steps up, asking whether they’ll be doing cityscape maneuvers again since it’s the same field used in the entrance exam. Izuku thinks to himself how cool Tenya’s costume is, while All Might explains that they’re moving onto step two - indoor anti-personnel battle training!

He explains what while villain battles are most commonly seen outdoors, statistically the worst crimes and villains are more likely to be found indoors. Confinement, house arrest, black market deals… the clever villains luck indoors to avoid heroes. Which is why the class will be split into teams of two and pit against each other, heroes versus villains style!

Ah, Tsuyu. Calling him right the heck out, as expected. All Might then notes that in this scenario, the fight won’t be against disposable robots.

This entire page is just fucking hilarious. The class and all their questions while All Might is shaking with nerves. The fucking cheat sheet he uses to try to get back on track. Him being questioned on the lot drawing, and shaking while Izuku accidentally ends up covering for him. I just. All Might was not prepared for this mess and it shows. He was doing so much better when it was the one on one stuff with Izuku.

But yeah, Izuku notes the scenario is like from a western comic plot, and he’s also the one who ‘realizes’ the lots are like when heroes from different agencies have to team up for emergencies without prior warning.

Lots are drawn, and we have our teams:

Izuku’s so stressed out because he still can’t really talk to her, while she’s excited to be teamed up and calls it ‘fate’ that it happened. All Might draws the first two teams to participate, and… team Izuku and Ochako (as the heroes) versus team Katsuki and Tenya (as the villains). Both Izuku and Katsuki are alert from this development…

Which makes this a good point to cut off, since it’s halfway through and we got a lot of information to chew on already. Second part should be out this weekend (hopefully).

More than Friends review eps 9-16

I previously posted my review of the first half of the series because I could not contain what I felt. It was quite impulsive of me but I wanted to let out everything I thought and felt for this drama. It is becoming better every time in such a way that I see the little creative ideas the writer or director is putting into each episode along with the development of the story. Familiar yet refreshing. I decided to create a new post because I saw that the first half recap was way too long if I would still add the remaining episode reviews because I just could not help it. I do understand that the length could be frustrating but I want my words to be read too, so thank you for everyone patient enough to read my words.

Episode 9 - Watching this episode made me realize a double standard I never really noticed before but I guess drama watchers would be able to relate to; the difference of pitiful and pathetic for female and male leads. I’m not yet certain if it’s deliberate but female characters locked in one sided love often seem pathetic but when it’s a male character they seem pitiful? Woo Yeon did seem pathetic in her one sided love in the earlier episodes so why does Soo get to be pitiful? It’s the same for the past dramas I’ve watched too. It’s just a food for thought. Based on last week’s preview, I really thought Joon Soo would punch Lee Soo after the drunk call but he held back so good job, Joon Soo. Honestly, I thought he wouldn’t be able to hold back because not only was he angry of the fact that Woo Yeon was getting swayed by Soo, but also because he knew how much it hurt, and hates the fact that she would still be hurt over the latter after a decade. This is why I keep wanting Joon Soo because he never thought selfishly when it came to Woo Yeon. I also love the fact that his character is being shown as someone seemingly perfect with a lot of flaws too. I love seeing his flaws and even relating to them! Being used to holding back is probably the reason why I write so much because I swear I can’t talk this much at all. I really hope he would stop holding back for his own sake. I think the most favorable Soo I have ever seen was him drunk calling his dad. I love the fact his parents went to his house to talk and console him. I also realized that Soo really closed himself up enough to have no one but his dad to drunk call. That was sad because the high school gang never really shunned him but he was the one who kept his heart closed. I half expected his folks to announce that hey would be back together because I feel that’s where those two are headed to eventually. As for Woo Yeon, I’m somehow glad she mustered up the courage to break up with Joon Soo after everything. As much as I was dreading it, I also felt that it was the right decision. She knew that it was too cruel to let him hurt quietly so I’m glad she had that decency; I could see that she was doing her best to be firm with her resolve. On her behalf, I get it why it’s difficult for her to let go of her feelings for Soo so I do not think she’s a weird one for that. I know that this is where my ship stops its sail but I’m satisfied that it’s not as I feared it would. The fight scene was reminiscent of Jealousy Incarnate, I just hope Dong Jun faked the punch because I know how athletic he has been from his Idol days which is enough for me to be scared for Seung Woo. Conveniently, it was only after this that Soo decides to take a break from pursuing Woo Yeon after ruining her chance to start anew with someone. Eventually, I know that Woo Yeon would not be able to defy the flow of her feelings towards Soo but I hope he can also grow up more because right now, I can still see him being selfish and self centered in his approach.

Episode 10 - How can one episode contain so much emotions? And it was all types of emotions at that! I mean one moment it’s awkward, cute, upsetting, lovely, funny then sad and even more! This episode was a roller coaster of emotions in my opinion. First thing’s first, the younger guy Jinju dated is a total loser and a scumbag. Good thing Sang-hyeok was there to the rescue. I feel so bad for Young-hee because every time she takes a step forward, she’s always dragged two steps back. She has a strong personality but it does not mean her situation does not wear her down too. So here comes the roller coaster because Lee Soo and On Joon Soo drinking together and ending up at Woo Yeon’s place is super cute. That includes her parents’ “interview” with the two men while they try to show off their “qualities”. I literally said “boom” when Joon Soo “let slipped” that Soo was the jerk Woo Yeon’s parents have been hunting for. That was really petty but I guess it’s his little revenge on Soo for interrupting their relationship when he used to date Woo Yeon. I am not going to lie about not loving the misunderstanding Soo had when he saw them together in the restaurant while he was with his parents. He tends to act so victimized which I really dislike then he readily blows up at Woo Yeon. But then again, it makes these characters more human then the usual kdrama characters I watched in the past. Lee Soo should really learn to express things more clearly so Woo Yeon would stop thinking that he’s simply bored or fooling around. As for Joon Soo, it’s a lost battle and I feel bad for him because he has become a masochist which is why I need to take care of him. I need Woo Yeon’s cooperation for this...

Episode 11 - Soo is finally given the chance he keeps on missing. As much as I am sad for my ship, I’m happy Woo Yeon and Soo are coming around although it isn’t the full circle yet. I do feel really bad for Joon Soo but it has always been clear how strong Woo Yeon’s feelings have been for Soo. I like how she at long last clearly stated that she will always give Soo the chance whatever he does because it has been evidently true for the past episodes. I guess that’s enough proof that feelings can’t be controlled easily. My favorite part in this episode would be her giving Soo an ultimatum because I always had a feeling he thought of her as a port always there for him. My second favorite in this episode would be Sang Hyuk and Jinju! He’s so sweet and caring which is exactly what she needs. Will they be my favorite couple? Hehe. I just want to take a bit of time to swoon over Joon Soo because he cares a lot for Woo Yeon though it isn’t returned, I appreciate him wishing her well. I can’t help but wonder if there will be another drama between Woo Yeon and Soo, because if he hurts her one more time then I would prefer her to be alone (I’ll be taking Joon Soo.)

Episode 12 - I never thought Soo and Woo Yeon together would be this mushy haha. They are making up for the lost time and I like seeing them happy and somewhat letting go of the inhibitions they had. And for the first time, I think I want to scold the writer for adding a character like Yura because seriously, those two no longer need another person to interrupt them. I suppose it’s to make up for the remining episodes? But then it could be expound on things like commitment issues for Woo Yeon and Soo, and taking the next step for their relationship. I do secretly hope for Joon Soo to make a comeback but not necessarily in a romantic light. Obviously, Soo is the one being careful now when it comes to dealing with Woo Yeon. I like seeing him nervous of losing her because it keeps him on his toes though I hope he would be more direct about it instead of acting cool so she won’t misunderstand anymore. I remember him saying he dated around too but Woo Yeon seems more like the one used to dating. I guess he never really thought of the other party when dating. I can sort of imagine his ex-girlfriends putting more effort than him.

Episode 13 - Lol, Soo should’ve been more sensitive when Woo Yeon insisted on going home by herself. I find it so cute when she defended Soo from her parents, she was so cheeky to point out her dad’s faults. After everything they have been through I hope they can do well from now on but something tells me otherwise. At least Woo Yeon finally said the magic words Soo has been so anxious to hear. It seems she was too nervous and being careful to say it though I had the initial impression that she must’ve had a stigma of some sort to those three words. I somehow feel nervous about Soo’s job offer from the airline because it might lead to a fight or even a break up. Speaking of a break up, I’m sad Hyun-jae and Young-hee had to part ways though it was one-sided. I do get the pov of his family but I can’t relate to the pressure of marriage. By the way, am I the only one who thinks Kwon Yura’s character is waste? I mean I don’t see much purpose for her character because she does not threaten the main lead’s relationship other than making Woo Yeon want to doll up herself. I must say one of my favorite scenes in this episode is when Woo Yeon went to the salon and told the staff she’s meeting with her boyfriend’s woman. I love how the customers and salon staff reacted even calling in their boss to style her. Was it a parody? I’m not sure because I have sworn to lay my hands and eyes off all dramas that deal with a husband’s mistress. Nevertheless, it was super witty and I had a lot of fun watching that scene including the one where she deliberately posed further behind Yura to make her face look smaller. Lastly, Sang-hyeok and Jinju are finally together! They look so cute together and make the perfect couple. In fact, all three couples seem to be perfect for each other because they complement each others’ personalities well.

Episode 14 - This must be the episode where everyone breaks up or gets rejected. But before that, I can’t get over the expression Woo Yeon’s mom wore when she said to pack up contraception for her trip with Soo. One minute they were having a lovely mother-daughter moment then she suddenly brings that up. As much as most people would find it awkward, I think it was so funnily straightforward. Her mom cares which suddenly reminds me of the reaction of Young-hee’s mom when she found tons of condoms in her drawer. Another reaction I really enjoyed was when Woo Yeon and Soo found out Jinju and Sang-hyeok are dating! The way she splashed water out of shock really showed how it was the farthest thing in her mind. From the time Soo’s work offer came, it already seemed ominous along with Woo Yeon’s offer so I was not surprised with the break up. Maybe it was for the better; I have been mulling over Woo Yeon’s reasoning that she might end up hating Soo if they stayed together. The loneliness was eating her up which I believe is realistic in a long distance relationship like theirs. Soo shouldn’t have readily agreed regardless if he was thinking of her or not. Considering these two pursued their careers, I think this would leave less regrets in their hearts because they were able to fulfill the dreams they had. Their feelings for each other will always be there because they are Soo and Woo Yeon. I just need to wait how they will get back to each other.

Episode 15 - While watching this episode, I couldn’t stop thinking that this is the episode I finally see Lee Soo as someone heartbroken and not self centered, also, am I the only one who thinks his hair styled up is way better than his hair down? At last, I got to see Soo’s feelings of longing for Woo Yeon instead of his attitude of forcing his feelings like earlier into the series. I think it’s his maturity plus his sincerity in wanting her back because he now knows how it is to lose her. Their break up might just seem like another ploy by the writer to extend the series but I also think it was helpful to both Woo Yeon and Soo. In the first place, they decided to be apart so their careers could flourish which made them busy and drift apart. It also brought to light the insecurities they had especially Woo Yeon who had been so used to be the only one who in love. I think her fears of having the person she loved and wanted the most surfaced which keeps her from returning to him even if he’s practically begging her back. I just hope Soo would’ve made efforts to contact Woo Yeon or get her back after that break up call just as he was when he was courting her instead of stepping back. I guess it was partly a good thing because they were able to achieve certain things for their careers during that time too. Meanwhile Young-hee’s mom’s death was inevitable but at least they got to resolve the hard feelings and she was able to convey her love for her children. I think among the deaths I’ve seen in kdramas, this is the most touching for me. I must really be getting old to be sentimental like this. I also felt envious of the leads’ friendship. This episode showcased it the most especially how they supported Young-hee through the most difficult time in her life. I also love how they quietly support the complicated relationship of Soo and Woo Yeon. They have never attempted to kill him so yup they are good people.

Episode 16 - Loose strings are tied up in a pretty bow as the friends gear up for each of their happy endings. Joon Soo decides to let go of his feelings for Woo Yeon (he’s finally free to walk towards me! Yay!) I really like their hug because it sums up the affections and friendship they had. Good thing Soo wasn’t there to tear them apart. I also like that Soo is still a bit jealous of Joon Soo because whenever I remember how arrogant he was about stealing Woo Yeon away, I still want to punch him. His mom’s pushing aka guilting Woo Yeon was indeed effective, heh. Seriously though, it seems to me that his mom did it because she did not want him to end up like his parents and perhaps it was her way of making up for their negligence and mistreatment of him. I love the fact that Soo and Woo Yeon continued to fight and make up even after getting back together, it was very much in their character. It’s also nice that Soo’s parents decided to give their relationship another shot. It makes me think that they too learned from their son. Jinju’s and Sang-hyeok’s wedding pictorial was super lovely, it was very smart of them to trick Soo into it haha. Young-hee and Hyun-jae are finally back together too! Thank goodness, they’re getting married instead of returning to dating. As much as I cringed with their cheesiness, it was very much welcome and cute to watch. All six of them had their own cringey and cheesy way of saying and doing things. I think this drama has one of the most satisfactory endings ever, now, if only On Joon Soo can find his way to me...

More than Friends has met the amount of romance and tension that I always look for yet refreshing and not too cliché. I love the little details and the way it explored different types and stages of relationships including of different age groups. I hope other viewers would also get to see how the writer tried to portray these in the drama. Watching the ending made me realize the drama’s title was probably referred to these couples because they started as friends and became more than just that. Honestly, their situation is quite idealistic but I think it’s so cute if it does happen in real life. I’m happy I watched this even if it was mainly for Kim Dong Jun. Literally before watching this, I watched Moment of Eighteen then even prior to that, I watched Meow, The Secret Boy. MoE was sad because Junwoo had to put off his dreams and relationship to help out his mom. I initially wanted to skip or wait till later to watch it but ended up being hooked to it. Hehe.

One of the things I find fascinating in this drama is the casting! Shin Ye Eun’s step mom in MTSB became her actual mom while her dad became Lee Soo’s dad this time. There lots of familiar faces which made me like the drama even more.

Road to Kingdom

I freaked out watching the preview stages for each group and it made me instantly a fan of Road to Kingdom.

I am gonna try post my opinions like this as stuff get shown and when the show starts airing.

I wanna see how my opinions on groups change after watching Road to Kingdom

Note that I am not 100% familiar to all of these groups so sorry if I get any information wrong. I started looking into all of these groups more after they were announced so I still am learning!

-Pentagon

-At first when the official lineup was announced I initially thought that Pentagon was gonna be my favorite out of all these groups

-I got into them because of Triple H (rip)

-Listened to Shine and started liking them of course like everyone else

-(still don’t know why they haven’t gotten a win yet)

-Like Pentagon is so talented and all of their songs are good so I don’t know what’s happening

-Their preview stage made shine into a horror song

-Like how in horror movies they would play children music in the background and it would get all creepy

-This has the same feeling

-So I was like so they are going for the dr bebe route for this stage I am pretty sure...

-Wooseok looks like he belongs in a mental hospital

-I feel like since Pentagon is the most senior group they are gonna scare everyone just like how Mamamoo did in Queendom

-Chances of winning are very very high they are not that popular in Korea so I feel like they would gain a lot of attention because they are talented and win

-My top songs:

1. Naughty Boy

2. Humph!

3. Shine

-The Boyz

-Ok so I for sure thought that Pentagon would be my favorite...

-But then The Boyz came out of nowhere

-Like I was not huge huge fans of The Boyz and just keeping an eye on them

-But when they were announced for RTK I started paying a bit more attention to them and I fell for them

-After I started binge watching any The Boyz videos I find

-Fell for Eric so hard

-I love love love their music

-When no air came out it easily became one of my favorites for that year

-Out of all the preview stages The Boyz were my favorite and they left the most impact in my opinion

-You gotta admit that their preview stage was cool

-In the end where they laid on the ground had me laughing so hard

-Chances of winning are pretty high I am pretty sure out of all the groups in RTK The Boyz have the largest Korean fan base

-My top songs:

1. No Air

2. Bloom Bloom

-Oneus

-First heard of them when I was watching simply kpop because I was board

-And because of simply kpop I forgot how much times I listened to Twilight

-And the “Bulgeun taeyangi eodume garyeo bicheul ilheo noeullo beonjyeogane” in the beginning will forever be stuck in my head

-But what really caught my eye was English Girl 😂

-I remember the first time listening to this I think I laughed too hard

-It definitely left an impression on me

-But not having a real interest in them until I watched Weekly Idol with them and Ateez

-Originally watched it for Ateez ended up with being interested in Oneus

-Found out that they were from RBW and was like oOOoooOo

-I am a fan of the girl trainees at RBW (365 Practice)

-Their colab with Haeun was very cute

-I would have to say that their preview stage was very dull compared to other groups with more members

-I liked how they fit in singing Twilight out of nowhere

-Chances of winning I am not too sure but I do think they will do very well

-My top songs:

-Golden Child

-Woollim Boys (sorry not sorry every time I see a Woollim group that’s all I think of because of ProduceX101)

-First heard of them through Weekly Idol when Jangjun danced with Weki Meki

-Thier cover on Seventeen’s Fear shook me to the core

-Did not expect it at all because Seventeen songs are very hard to cover

-After I watched it I couldn’t get over Joochan and Seungmin

-After watching their preview stage all I can say is wow

-It was the first one I watched and my thoughts were wow of course I wouldn’t expect any less from a show like RTK

-In the beginning sorta getting vampire vibes and I was like so are we gonna have this type of concept

-Yes and No?

-They are very powerful dancers

-Chances of winning I would say are in the middle 50/50

-My top songs:

3. Wannabe

-ONF

-I only heard of them because they are from WM Entertainment (my ult group Fromis_9 really likes Oh My Girl)

-So I only started watching videos of them when the RTK lineup was announced

-I am shook with Hyojin’s vocals

-We love a vocal king

-I think their concept with the ON team and OFF team is very creative

-Some members vocals reminds me of YG vocals a little bit (maybe it was because of Mixnine? I might be going crazy) (haha treasure stans you get me)

-Thier preview stage I feel like they could have been a bit more creative but I guess their is so much you can do with 6 members

-Chances or winning seem pretty low but we can’t be sure

-My top songs:

1. We Must Love

2. Why

3. Complete

-Verivery

-Only heard of them through people mentioning them on YouTube or Twitter

-Sometimes Yeonho’s voice sounds like Victon’s/X1’s Seungwoo like the tiniest bit

-They seem like a group that would be in Produce

-Preview stage gave me MonstaX shoot out vibes in the beginning

-They used very clean sharp movements in it

-Out of all the groups they were probably the most sync for this performance

-Chances of winning seem pretty low but anything can happen

-My top songs:

1. Lay Back

2. Tag Tag Tag

3. From Now

-Too

-Never heard of them until they announced the line up

-Since they literally just debuted I don’t really have a lot to say about them

-They might struggle the most being the youngest group with very little bit experience

-Their preview stage was my least favorite because all they literally did was sing their debut song

-But I am very curious of what happens next on their stage because it seems like the remixed their song

-Chances of winning very low because a lot of skills you need to become a good idol is achieved through time and they pretty much started filming the show before they even debuted

-I am not saying they aren’t talented or they don’t have the skills to win it’s just simply not sure

-They have one song so I can’t really make a ranking...

-The electric guitar that’s in the background of Magnolia reminds me of BlockB’s Very Good (it’s very faint)

As I was making this I started thinking about what if they made a normal Kingdom and not Road to Kingdom. So I started thinking who would be in it if their was a Kingdom. I would say MonstaX, Sf9, Stray Kids, Ateez, Astro, and Nu’est could possibly be in the lineup.

If they had a Road to Queendom (which I hope they do) I would say Fromis_9, Cherry Bullet, Nature, Dia, Rocket Punch, Cignature, and Dream Note could be the lineup.

Tell me your own opinions on who could be in the possible line up for Kingdom and Road to Queendom!

review: hajimari no kyojin (osaka 6/1)

so. hello. i usually write up my butai thoughts as, um, 100+ tweet threads in the immediate wake of whatever i just saw, but this time around i thought i'd work them out into a proper report, of a sort. if you, too, have seen this show already and want to talk about it... please. any time. always.

about reviewing: this is my very favorite 2.5D franchise, ever. but this is also a review, not a cheerleading exercise, so not every single thing i have to say is unrelentingly positive. having said that, i respect kinoshita, wada, suga-zachou, and the staff at large more than just about any creative team in this corner of japanese theater fandom so like. i'm not here to drag, lol.

about spoilers: i talk about the plot elements covered but try to avoid spoiling any of the fun production surprises. :) happy to do a more spoilery play-by-play later if folks are curious.

about length: i just checked and it's 2400 words im so sorry.

without further ado...

first of all, i admit that based on the preview clips i doubted, and i was swiftly taken to task for doubting. IM SORRY WORRY-SAN i trust u implicitly and i should have known better. after the major changes in shinka no natsu, i was concerned that bringing back the revolving stage and the original opening theme would feel stale/regressive. it did not. while they did bring back the revolving element they also extended the stage backward and added a second level behind a full stage height projection screen – the second level was used to do some neat staging for flashbacks/parallels and the screen was used to, how shall we say this, up their projection game in a major way, which i frankly did not think was possible. i will not spoil the details but it was pretty great, on a purely technical level.

i also realized that a lot of the repetition – opening with the bike scene, bringing back the original opening credits music, the staging, etc – is the "look back" over the last couple years that i'd expected to come this fall. they are very obviously already preparing for the end – you could think of this as part one of their last show, with the fall as part two. the show opens with a restaging of sixth grader hinata seeing the little giant on tv for the first time – then the current karasuno team take the place of the tv and hinata joins them for a team jog. "karasuno, fight!" "oh!" "fight!" "oh!" only then each character calls out their signature line from the show so far. "uchi no renchuu wa chanto tsuyoi" / "mou tobenai karasu nante yobasenai" / "murabito b mo tatakaemasu!"

and haha. let me tell you. BOY, DID I FEEL THINGS. a lot of things. i think yachi got me the worst but they were all real bad. (i have so many feelings about yachi's story and what a beautiful job saitou ami did with her character on stage. god. ;_;)

the theme of this play was the role of captain – what makes a good captain, what a captain does for the team, and how to step into those shoes when the captain is gone. the johzenji match is fun, but here, in a sense, it exists more or less to set up the wakutani match – (re)establishing daichi's importance so that his absence feels like the gut punch it is. and fully settling the weight of that responsibility on ennoshita's shoulders, as both daichi's substitute on the court and the captain-in-waiting.

with that in mind, the rival schools: imo it wasn't strictly necessary to cast full teams for each school – each match got its own dedicated act, and unlike, for example, nekoma/datekou in karasuno fukkatsu (which had a similar story structure), there aren't really any individual characters on these rival schools who have a role as such other than terushima and takeru. (you know, the captains. see above. XD) so in theory one could get this done with, like, one actor for each captain and then an ensemble cast playing the rest of the team across both matches. HOWEVER, having all those bodies allows them to do super cool stuff visually, and why force yourself to create the illusion of a full team if you don't have to? i.e., /i/ sure am not complaining, isn't it nice to have $$$ to achieve the max vision of your choreographer. XD

i also have no doubt that the kids playing these other characters are doing whatever they can to create a character within the ensemble, and i suspect there's plenty for repeat viewers to pick up on, esp during say the johzenji match (see below). however for the first time viewer following the main flow of the story it's more or less a very large ensemble cast.

the johzenji chaos was well expressed, haha, there was so damn much going on all the time that i hardly knew where to look. (i've also seen opinions on j-twitter that that diluted the impact and i can see that too – it worked for me as a "funny" match that didn't cross the line into comic relief, but ymmv.) i thought the final scene with misaki would pack more of a punch, but i fully expect them to cry at daisenshuuraku so that might fill in the last 10% that's missing rn.

wakutani are another Good Dance Team. one did get a sense, stylistically, of fukurodani- and nekoma-lite with johzenji and wakunan, respectively – i assume that was intentional. mirroring the cats vs owls match, as it were. yanagihara rin's takeru was like… scary?? i had to rewatch those episodes this weekend to see if i'd just forgotten something, but no, stage takeru is not so much reliable middle brother as scowly quiet tough guy. he looked like a kyoutani tbh, and looking at the kid actually cast for kyoutani, one wonders if someone in casting mixed up some paperwork or something. having said that, yanagihara was great at being the character he was, i enjoyed what he did on stage. i'm just not sure that character was takeru. XD (edit: ok having just rewatched, i have to revise this somewhat, i think a big part of my impression was due to being too far back to properly see his expressions the first time around -- up close he was much smilier, and bc i was thinking about it i noticed some nice details like him going over for a family hug afterward.) otoh big post-match scene – all of wakutani, actually – was really good. v effective, i heard sniffles around me.

during this match, johzenji reappeared dressed as takeru's family: FUCKING HILARIOUS omg, everyone involved has clearly learned how to do this right wrt blocking, the very fine line between comic relief and intrusion, etc, after the, er, shaky shousha to haisha experiment of kuroken doubling as oikawa's fangirls. seichou shita na, errone.

also, some great wire work for hinata and takeru – you could tell kenta is really comfortable up there these days. the first time the wires came into play one of the women behind me went "UWO!" which, when a japanese theatergoer makes a noise out loud, that's a true sign something's impressive. XD

nekoma vs fukurodani: Yeah, That Happened. it is a testament to how well done karasuno vs wakunan was that i didn't just spend the entire time screeching BRING BACK CATS VS OWLS because fjkdajfkdlsfjd KYAA. another good staging moment – they used mirrors to create the effect of two full teams playing at a crowded gymnasium, it was brill. i won't spoil some of the fun details but vvjakdlfjdf. and tbh i think the best performance of the four was probably shouri's?? not that this is news but istg idk how someone so soft offstage does THAT on stage. is it this "acting" thing you speak of.

new bokuaka: i mean it was clear some of this material was meant for yoshimoto kouki and i did kinda miss him – i appreciate higashi-san's pinch hitting and he did a solid job. but. ah well. HAVING SAID THAT. fucking "michi wo tsukurimasu yo" i mean we should all be grateful it wasn't kouki and yuuki or it would have just been a fucking fanfic on stage. it was still bad and i don't even go here. XD

and last but not least, arita ushiwaka kenji: not exactly the world's most natural line delivery but that's fine because, i mean, he's ushiwaka. and his physical presence was perfect. which was about all he was called on to do in this particular show, ahaha.

now, for karasuno. and specifically, for my son, kawahara kazuma. remember what i said approximately a thousand words ago, about captains and captains in waiting and stepping up to the plate? (or onto the court, as it were.) ennoshita's story was the heart of the wakutani match and kazuma carried the second act. he was. so. good. he had good material to work with, of course, but he made it even better. i was saying to a friend that in retrospect i think this is one of the very very few parts of the series that actually played better and more emotionally affecting on stage than in the source material (as opposed to differently good/differently affecting). in the manga/anime, you can only see what the paneling or the frame shows you, and those initial paneling/framing choices are focused on the drama of CAPTAIN DOWN. but on the stage, daichi goes down… and off to the side you see ennoshita freeze. and from that moment on, for kazuma, it's go time. he doesn't let up until the end of post-match scene in (here) the locker room – which, jesus, that scene. it packs ten times the punch it does in the anime. because of kazuma.

sorry if i sound like a crazy person here ahaha. but like. like, imagine you have been acting since childhood, you've studied dance with famous choreographers and innovators, you had a main role in The Franchise That Changed 2.5D as a teenager, you've done a solo album, you have a serious history in performing arts... and you get cast in what was initially the smallest role of the entire karasuno team. and you take it! and pull your weight! kazuma was a team player for three years and he deserved this chance to let his actual skills shine so much. ;_; because i don't necessarily think he would have been better in any of the other roles than his actual teammates – but i do think he is a much better actor than several of his actual teammates. and he finally got the opportunity to show that.

anyway, when it came time for curtain calls, the applause swelled noticeably for kazuma – a louder ovation than anyone except kagechan and kenta. and one of those people clapping her hands off, say in row 20, just a random row choice, was definitely tearing up at the same time.

IN OTHER KARASANEWS. kt-san. LIVE IN PERSON KT-SAN BACK IN THE ROLE HE WAS MEANT FOR cries into my hands i love him daichi-saaaaaaaaaan. very occasionally his delivery reminded me he's a model not an actor, if you know what i mean, but like, for the vast part it didn't matter because he is naturally such a perfect fit. have i mentioned i love him.

new suga: mmmmm. he looked and moved fine but his line delivery did not convince me. tbf it's not like suga has a huge role to play in these matches so 1) it's not a huge deal 2) he didn't get much chance to get into the character. either he'll get better or he won't, and if he doesn't it's not going to sink the next play or anything. he seems like a nice enough kid, i wish him well!

kageyama tatsuya: still can't yell and enunciate at the same time. loved that they brought back the archer analogy from shinka no natsu though!! it was one of my favorite things about his kageyama, and it's nice that it's something he "owns" instead of imitating/inheriting from tatsunari.

tsukishima & yamaguchi: miura kairi continues to get even better, i'm so pleased. <3 also, i love love love that they still use the musical motif from shousha to haisha for yamaguchi's jump float serve. it was the same in shinka no natsu, it's the same here. THE TSUKKIYAMA WAS REAL CUTE, great detail work before and after the serve as well as after tsukki's block(s). as for tsukishima, much as they brought back kageyama's archer imagery, they brought back tsukki's fancy katana kill block. (they didn't waste kondou shouri, either, i'll leave it at that.)

last but not least, MY ACTUAL SON AND FEELINGS TWIN, SUGA KENTA: ok like. to set the scene here. i have mad respect for this kid and also love him to death as a human. i think he puts more thought into this production than anyone else in the cast – he is practically worry-san's AD. and he clearly has a lot of real deep thoughts and feelings about the source material. so deep in fact that it took a while for me to come around to his hinata because while, for example, tatsunari's kageyama could have walked straight off my television screen, kenta went down to the manga and built hinata up from there. he didn't have a choice – he's nothing like murase ayumu's voice. all too often we, and i include myself here, think of the two dimensions in 2.5D as anime, rather than manga... but just as there's a big gap between the two dimensions of animation and the three dimensions of live theater, there's as big a gap again between static black-and-white drawing, and movement and color and sound. and when i looked at kenta's hinata as something created solely from furudate's art style, it all slotted into place for me. (naturally, ymmv.)

it also took kenta longer than some of the others, i think, to portray all of what he wanted to. shoen hinata was pretty yelly, and pretty single-register yelly. hinata is a yelly character, of course, but the balance between that hinata and Serious Match Hinata was out of whack at first. this got better and better with every show. and then—

his encounter with ushiwaka here. was IT. it was what i was looking for all this time. his delivery of hinata's big line there was like – i think maybe i clapped my hands over my mouth, unclear, bc it was like the final missing piece and i was so happy. kentaaaaa. ;____;

part of me wonders if this is what kenta's always had in his head but maybe couldn't get his face/voice to express the way he wanted it? OR, IT'S KENTA, SO MAYBE IT WAS ON PURPOSE and his previous Serious Hinata was meant to be like, just a feral hunger child whereas this is the kid who experienced the heartbreak of losing to seijou. i would love to ask him tbh. XD

anyway, my son, after five plays continues to grow in his portrayal of this character. kenta is the heart of gekidan haikyuu in so many ways, and i will be at their graduation show if it kills me.

(breathes out) i think that's. everything. a best setter award to anyone who read this far, and feel free to ask if there's anything specific you want to know about? i will be seeing it again this weekend for daisenshuuraku and will be sure to report back on who cried, etc. all hail volleyball stage the end. 🏐

BLOG Entry #3: FAKESHOW Review | CGM

This is a review/reaction about Da-iCE’s new single. This piece of literature is completely an opinion [mostly a fangirl’s violent reaction], based only on the writer’s point of view. You can always oppose or approve. But, don’t be mean.

FAKESHOW Review

On May 30, 2018 (Wednesday), Da-iCE officially released their new song, FAKESHOW. It is their second single after TOKYO MERRY GO ROUND, in celebration of their 5th Anniversary. It comes along with two songs, “Limits” and the 5 Voice & Bossa Version of “Hello”.

Okay, enough of the formal introduction. Haha! For the reason that I have already listened to FAKESHOW and to its accompanied two songs, I have already gathered my views and opinions and decided to write and post them on this blog.

Alright! – FAKESHOW.

As I’ve already mentioned before, I didn’t really like FAKESHOW that much on my first listen on their official website’s preview. Maybe, it was because I was initially oriented to acoustics and solemn melodious sounds (I was late appreciating too much pop-pop) and so, I was quite surprised by the complexity of the rhythm and the pattern of the song.

Note that I fell in love with the way Da-iCE songs are arranged in pop style, mixed with modern beats of EDM and soulfulness of R&B. Though not at first, I had quickly caught the beat of TOKYO MERRY GO ROUND before (although it’s also another song that sounds quite different from other Da-iCE songs), but FAKESHOW…? It took me a third listen to get familiar with the rhythm. I was like – “Is this the first Da-iCE song that I would dislike?” I was quite disappointed. But then, as well, it might be because the preview is too short. “I might be judging too early.” And so, I decided to wait for the whole song…

And then, Da-iCE released the music video that was also labeled as “Another fake version”. Again, as an a-i, I was energetically happy – jumping up and down. It was a new PV, even though it was not that officially complete, it had already shown the artistic concept and effort that the staff and members had exerted.

I love the costume. They were in formal and not-so-formal suits! They all look so handsome and matured and professional. And the colors? They express elegance and royalty! Of course, it was quite a dark concept, and that’s why I like it more. The way the smoke, mirror, and “wanted” background were used was witty. The lights were tricky as well. Let us appreciate the director and the people behind the whole production of the PV!

I tried to “decrypt” the lyrics with my poor Japanese. Haha! And so far, I can say, it was quite deep. It was about lies and if one would be deceived or not – something like that. I love the part of the lyrics that can be translated to “…wrapping up the smoke, goodbye! Melting away the lies…” [If I happen to finish the translation and take the sense out of those words, I might as well share them to you.]

After appreciating the effort, I finally concluded that “YES, I also like this song.” And now that I think of it, it kind of reminds me of WATCH OUT. I am not saying that the songs are similar. It just somehow “reminds” me of the previous piece. Maybe, it was because of the “TRUTH” part of WATCH OUT and that FAKESHOW is about “LIES”.

Anyway, I like the voices of Yudai and Sota in FAKESHOW. They are in high quality and in characters as well, as if they are trying to deceive [and seduce?] us with just their voices. The lower notes were mastered by Yudai, and the high notes were mastered by Sota, of course.

Da-iCE is getting better and better! They are that confident, they posted a Dance Practice of it! After years of not gracing YouTube with their moves, they finally decided to surprise us. And they did surprise us [me, particularly]! The choreography was once again made by Noppo of sh*t kingz [the TOKI choreographer]. Again, I am thanking him for giving our boys a magnificent choreo.

I love the speed and the sudden shift of steps. My favorite is the hand-and-face part, that “Baby, baby, smoky, smoky…” part [you know what I mean]. That was iconic and easy to remember.

Now, I can honestly say that I whole-heartedly love FAKESHOW! It is super cool and artsy! It makes me want to look forward to the upcoming album. Oooh, aren’t you excited as well?

Additional Reaction - Limits

After adjusting myself to the complexity of FAKESHOW’s rhythm, I wasn’t that quite surprised by the loudness and all-out beat of Limits. It is “louder” and “more complicated” compare to FAKESHOW. It is full of energy and magical, in a way. It is hard to describe, but listening to it makes me imagine Da-iCE driving race cars and going into an out-of-this-world battle of powers. Weird, eh? No wonder it was used as a theme song of PlayStation 4 “Black Clover Quarter Knights” [I don’t play so I don’t know what this is all about].

You know what’s weirder? I caught the rhythm quickly and enjoyed the song, although it’s quite “rock”. [I am appreciating various genre, yeah!]

Additional Reaction – Hello (5 Voice & Bossa Version)

If you have already listened to this version of Hello, I know… you smiled as well. Because, Toru, Hayate, and Taiki were singing and their voices were great in there. I love the falsetto part of Toru and the bridge that Taiki had sung. I totally smiled on those instances, like – “Why aren’t these three main vocalists?” I am still waiting for the time that they would totally make an official song [with MV] in which they would be singing in harmony and making wondrous blending. It may seem so far from reality, but if that ever happens, I will be more than happy.

As a whole, since it is “Bossa” (it might have been derived from the “Bossa Nova” genre of South America), this version of Hello makes me think about Hawaiian beach (although I am supposed to feel Brazilian vibes) with Da-iCE wearing colorful floral shirts and drinking coconut juice from their shells under the heat of the summer sun. Haha! That was too much! But, that was what I imagined.

I think, that’s all. So, what are your thoughts about FAKESHOW single?

AMA Transcript: bouquet garni

Next up, @skadventuretime, @guacamoletrash and @jamesfalt (Souly on Discord) stopped by to chat about their Resbang, bouquet garni! Here’s some of what went down:

Q: Madi, how did you come up with everyone's characters, like Harvar being a gaming streamer and Tsu and Liz being farmers etc. etc. because I thought those were all really unique and interesting!

madi: Ahaha let's see, I started planning this back last... May? and talking with the beta crew, as one does. And naturally marsh [ @marshofsleep ] , enabler that she is, just put it out there.

madi: And I was just playing a bunch of overwatch at the time and thought he'd be a good gamer nerd, and also I had decided to make this Extra self-indulgent, so I was like “my city now”. I basically poured all of my friend feels into [Harvar] and Anya in particular. The past couple years have been rougher for me, but I've had some really spectacular friends, and I decided Maka and Soul needed them, too.

Q: The part with the sword and stuff, I just…

madi: OH THAT ahahahaha. Okay yeah that was end of Resbang crunch time and me being extra 'fuck it.'

madi: That was what the team thought about that.

Q: Artist-chans, what programs do you use and how does your arting process go? And how is guac so good at playlisting??

Souly: I use paint tool SAI :0 I might still have some of my progress pics, lemme look.

guac: Lol. I don't think I'm super good at it but I do enjoy music a lot and like to make playlists so maybe that's it!

Souly: Yeah here we go. Mid lining.

I did it a lil differently than I normally do. I normally line everything and then do flats but I was actually super behind bc of life stuff so I just started doing flats per character after their lines were done. This is a sample of what the layers look like:

madi: Man how do u keep track of ur layers? Or is it like, a sixth sense?

Souly: I go off of the little layer previews and hope the layer has what I'm looking for.

madi: LOL that sounds like me.

Souly: I also like... tend to set up layers for characters a specific way so I can normally find those?

guac: BRUH THAT'S SO MANY LAYERS.

Q: Did you have a favorite character to write? 8)

madi: I just love writing Star being balls to the walls ridiculous. The saxophone thing came about because I saw this video and was like oh my god it's Black Star in the flesh: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMyqasy2Lco . But I also really liked writing Maka being sort of the one with issues, too.

Q: Which character in your fic did you most identify with? And was it purposeful or accidental?

madi: Iiiiiiii'd have to say I identified with [Maka] the most this fic, for once. Usually it's soul, but I ended up pouring a lot of myself into her, and it was both purposeful and accidental how it all worked out.

Q: I’m surprised, because there were a lot of things I noticed about Soul that I know are you-things!

madi: Yeah!!! I definitely can't help that with him, they both got a lot of me.

Q: I know you said this fic was super personal and self-indulgent so was it generally pretty easy to write because of that, or did you have trouble?

madi: Hmmmm yeah I definitely had some trouble. About 20k in, I sort of lost the emotional thread of it, and whined a lot to Bones [ @adulterclavis ] about what I could do to fix it, and it turned out that I just needed to talk to someone about it to find where I wanted to go again, and then it got easier. I still struggled for sure not having a traditional Big Antagonist plotline thing, it was more personal and then Maka's mom… Bones let me cry in her inbox about writing.

Q: What brought about your characterization of Mama Albarn (who i still hate btw >: ((( )?

madi: You are not the only one...

guac: I'm always ready to fight her.

madi: Okay so, basically Mama Albarn came about just from how I used to (and still sometimes do) talk to myself. It's that internalized idea you always have to be perfect, and if you aren't given everything you've been given and have, then you're weak and a fuckup and how dare you not be the best? DEFINITELY a toxic mindset, and Bad. And this fic was sort of exorcising that, a little. This was an external abusive deal, but you can absolutely develop abusive thought patterns towards yourself, and you can also free yourself from them, like Maka was ultimately able to.

Q: Was there a scene in particular you really enjoyed?

madi: I heckin’ loved the butt lamp scene. It honestly kept me going, knowing I'd be able to write that monstrosity. And also drunk Kid, who marsh aptly named Five Drink Amy. AND THEN GUAC skl;dfkld. So there was this, right, and then guac

madi: And we all could not stop laughing.

Q: What was the hardest part to write?

madi: I got stuck at the end of chapter 3, and I ultimately added another section on to it to make it work, but I think deciding how I wanted to transition from her debauched night out into a Soul POV chapter given what I wanted each person to sort of be faced with was probably the hardest thing for me. This whole deal was largely driven by me groping in the dark at what felt right.

Q: PS I loved the debauched night out. And Patty's drinks.

madi: I loved patty in this!! Bones wanted to marry her, so I know it Worked Out. She was another fun one to write, as were her drinks ahaha.

Q: What was your favorite thing about this Resbang in particular?

madi: Oh jeez, hm. I think my favorite thing was doing a better job fleshing out the side characters in Harv and Anya and Kid and Star. That was something I regret not doing better in my older work, so I'm happy I got to try my hand at giving people other than Soul/Maka some personality.

guac: They became such a cute little chosen family.

Q: Why a food-themed story specifically? What about that appealed to you? (For everyone!)

madi: (Apeeled).

Souly: I fucking love SoMa. [And] the cooking aspect really drew me in... idk why but I've always had a thing for those kinds of things with anime I'm into?

guac: My current relationship started with them teaching me how to cook real food cause I used to eat like a garbage can, so I was like ‘welp this is gonna be hella cute, count me in.’

madi: Omg, I didn't know that, that's ADORABLE.

guac: Shhhhh. I don't talk about my feelings very much. But yeah. I was like ‘a SoMa AU about my life!!!’

Souly: Honestly yeah same, I feel like I also like... connected with Maka about being poor and just buying shit to eat.

madi: Let's see, I had a prompt sitting in my inbox FOREVER that was like 'I’m obsessed with a food blogger who writes about cheap ways to be gourmet in your 20s and I flirt with them over comments but they never post pictures of their face and ALSO there’s a really cute grocery bagger at the store down the street who teases me and always asks to join me for dinner and I definitely want to say yes AU' that I was initially gonna go with, and originally it was a little closer to this deal. My first blush ideas for this sort of had the drama in not knowing who was whom, and the big reveal being the climax, or something like Maka thinking Soul was taken because she thought he was involved with the comment girl and then that whole drama. But then I thought that that sorta thing had been done before, and I wanted this to be less about the drama of the reveal and more about the process of them growing closer, I guess. And I also looooooove cooking and baking, so that definitely bled through.

Q: I thought it was a neat shake up how you didn’t make the reveal the crux of the whole thing.

madi: Ahahaha yeah, I definitely thought about it, but ultimately wanted this to be less 'gasp, it's YOU!' because the reader knows, and if I wanted to make the reader invested, I'd have to keep them apart and do the kinda drama I wasn't feeling for this fic. The insta bit came about because I spend some time looking at food pics before I go to sleep, and that provided a lot of insp for that section. Half of my degree is in nutrition, so I like to see the recipes people come up with, and also roll my eyes at some of the bougie stuff, because insta is definitely a Platform for that, depending on where you end up haha. Also like, I definitely took some things I've experienced flat out and added them in, like Harv shoving Maka electrolyte packets. Last year when I was deep in the sad pit, my diet was terrible, and I knew it, but I wasn't doing much about it. And then one day I was talking to Bones and my leg muscle kept spasming, and she was like dude when was the last time you've gotten minerals and I was like .....oh. So she sent me a link for those packets to hold me over on days I wasn’t getting them from my diet ahaha. Bones is also where some of Kid came from, and bits of Anya.

Q: Where did you get your recipes? I want a cookbook based on this fic p...please.

modi: Okay okay let me find some of the recipes that inspired things:

Q: Did you feel like your writing has changed at all during writing this?

madi: Yeah, for sure! I thought that this year I got better at characterizing people, adding some personality to them that was a little more nuanced than I'd done before. I think I absorbed some of Bones's longer sentence style, which I personally tend to like even though I am still getting a handle on it, and I think I got better at describing things in general. Next step is being better with plot and tightening up the language a little more >:) Most of the changes, I think, were sentence style and how I handled dialogue, which is usually harder for me.

Q: Artists: did you learn any new techniques that you plan to practice or improve on any you've been trying to learn?

Souly: Oh yeah, I learned doing flats as I go with lines actually speeds up the process slightly... I practiced a different lighting technique that I never did end up going with but I kinda figured out what I need to do to make it work. It sadly just didn't work with how I set up this pic.

madi: Oooo nice, linework is Intimidating but you made it look easy.

guac: I am just glad to force myself to make stuff. Glad to be here. Thought my drawing of bodies got better (thanks Black Star).

madi: Y'all don't understand the sound I made when I saw guac drew the apron.

madi: >;) well, I have a secret project that I thought of last year that I am not yet sure will be a Resbang or a chaptered dealio, so I want to pick at that. Then I have a chaptered Star vs the Forces of Evil fic I need to update, and I owe Pip [ @paperypiper ] like two or three Noragami fluff pieces, and SILLY’S BDAY SMUT. Which will proabbly be like a whole year late but whatever I’m sorry, I will try to make it extra spicy.

Souly: I'm signing up for a few zines! I'm currently waiting for them to open apps but I'm looking at an Enstars zine, FMA tarot project, and some YOI zines. I was also recently in the Soul Eater reversal zine that just closed preorders the other day so I'm waiting to be able to post my piece :0

guac: I'm arting for the BNHA big bang and mostly consumed by school. Who knows what will happen next! There's a little pop punk lyrics + anime project I'm working on so maybe I'll show it to the world someday soon. We will see.

madi: OH YEAH I’m writing for that bang too! AND GUAC GOT ME AS AN ARTIST. It's the ultimate resonance.

The preview for the TIE Reaper Expansion Pack is up @fantasyflightgames so I get to share some more illustrations I worked on for it! If you swipe right you can see my initial sketches for this one. Originally, the brief required only the Reaper flying away from the exploding base, but I thought that was quite boring when I was working on it, so I added in the X-Wings & TIE Fighters later on & resubmitted as a suggestion which was approved :) It changed the story slightly, but it looks cooler haha Art Dir- Crystal Chang #starwars #illustration #art

How long have you been a fan of One Direction? i think it’s going to be four years this march….jesus

Who is your favorite fic author? tashie togetherwecouldbealright, and i’m also very partial to 100percentsassy and gloriaandrews’ fics.

What is your favorite fic? THIS IS TOO HARD i don’t know if it’s even possible to just have one favorite, but the first thing that popped into my head was be my little good luck charm.

When did you start writing? long enough ago that i can’t really remember, i learned how to write at 5/6 so probably not long after that. i think i wrote a very lengthy poem about spring when i was 7, so definitely by then.

What was your favorite fic to write and why? in all honesty, the general process of writing is extremely painful for me..but probably run away home, partly because it was about horses and i really love horses, and partly because i’d like to think i improve a little with every fic i write and i ended up really liking the character dynamics i created there, especially lilo and h/l.

How and where do you find inspiration? all sorts of media, usually. i’m very, very bad at coming up with original ideas (working on it, though!), but when i’m watching a movie or tv show, i immediately start thinking of what harry and louis would be like with that kind of dynamic or how they would fit into that environment. it’s been movies, tv shows, a gif…the one i’m writing now was also inspired by a movie, and the one i want to write next is set in a tv show environment.

Are any of your stories influenced by personal experience? i guess it depends. i’d like to think i’m a decent baker, so i drew on that experience when writing leave it to the breeze, and i’ve been a huge horse nerd since age four, which came in useful when writing run away home. i was also in a long-distance relationship, and i’m asexual, which were both key elements of wait up i’m coming home (i just almost forgot that i wrote that one, lol). so i actually guess i do, even though i was ready to say not really.

How do you get over writer’s block? i don’t think i really get writer’s block, i just get lazy. usually it’s because i’ve come to the end of what i initially had planned for the plot, so the only way i move myself forward when that happens is sitting down and forcing myself to plan. if i’m just feeling like i don’t want to write, i try to use time management techniques (like pomodoro, i.e. 25 minutes of focused writing and 5 minutes of pointlessly browsing the internet to reward mysel) or, if it’s an ongoing thing, i try to leave off in a place i know i’ll want to continue the next day.

On average, how long does it take to write a fic? all of my longer 1d fics were started/written as part of nanowrimo, which really helps move things along. for the monster fics i always seem to end up doing i’d say maybe two to three months of consistent writing. the issue, and the reason i literally post one fic a year, is that i’m not consistent, lol.

How often do you sit down to write? What does your ideal work setting look like? if i’m in the ‘groove’, ideally i like to write every day. it just helps keep everything fresh in my memory so i know where i’m picking up, and also helps get everything done faster. the only thing i really need is complete silence/white noise. i used to be really particular about where i wrote, but i’ve learned to be more flexible as my life got busier, so now i don’t really mind - i’ve written at work, at school, at coffee shops, bus stops, in the library, all over the place. if i am at home, though, i like to have a cup of tea while i write.

Pick 3 things that are absolutely necessary to make a good story!

characters!! nothing works for me if the characters aren’t good or, in the case of fic, if they’re ooc.

character growth/development

things like grammar, syntax, punctuation, capitalisation, paragraph breaks. i’m unfortunately a very picky reader, so what a story looks like plays a big role for me.

What do you like most about the writing process? i really love how stories change from what you intend them to be. when i start i’ll usually have a basic outline of the plot and characters, but the story kind of takes on a life of its own and new scenes/plot points/character motivations come into my head as i’m writing and often take the story in a different direction, so i end up with something totally new! i also love the rush of excitement after i post the fic. i usually go to sleep right after so i can wake up to reactions, whatever they might be, haha.

What is your favorite genre/tag to write? in my early fanfic days i used to really enjoy writing angst, but 9 times out of 10 it doesn’t work with h/l. when i’m writing about them i just like all sorts of romance-y stuff, especially them getting together, so in terms of tags i guess i’d say friends to lovers.

What kind of scene do you find hardest to write? Easiest? hardest is probably action/scenes where a lot of things happen in quick succession, i struggle with pacing those properly. smut is really hard, too. easiest are dialogue-heavy scenes, both friendly and romantic fond banter, and specifically lilo friendship scenes, haha.

Do you write chronologically? yes. if there’s a scene i’m really looking forward to writing, i plot it out in detail and use it as motivation to write faster so i can get to it.

What’s one thing that not a lot of people know about you, and you feel comfortable sharing? i feel like i put everything really personal on the internet to be honest, haha. but i feel like the most interesting thing about me is the fact that i work at an escape room, so i literally lock people in rooms and then spy on them through a camera for a living.

Are you currently working on something? Can we have a little preview? i am! i’ve talked about this a little on my blog, it’s an au based on the movie sweet home alabama. it’s a huge mess right now, but here’s a bit i like:

“I’m not sure I believe you,” says Louis, half-grinning. “I’ve moved on, Harry, the best that I could. I’d love it if you disappeared tomorrow, sure, but you being here isn’t—I don’t know. It’s not breaking my heart in two, or whatever Liam would have you believe.”

He avoids Harry’s eyes as he says it.

“But—actually. Since you are here, I wanna show you something.”

Harry blinks at the sudden change in demeanour, and has to scramble to get up and follow Louis out of the door. He’s walking up the stairs briskly, brushing his hand over the picture frames as he goes in what looks like an unconscious habit.

Harry catches up with him on the landing upstairs. He’s standing right in front of the white door that Harry tries to pretend isn’t there, looking at it with his arms wrapped around himself.

“What…” Harry starts, looking him over. He looks small, but determined, standing firm, with his chin tipped up.

“You know what,” he says, quiet.

Harry shakes his head. He, too, hugs himself, needing something to keep him together just in case.

“You don’t have to do this,” he says.

“I want to,” Louis replies. “It’s been too long. I just—I didn’t want to get rid of it without you. That’s just stupid, isn’t it.”

“No,” Harry says immediately, reaching out to touch Louis’s shoulder before he realises who they are, where they are, and pulls back. “It’s not stupid, Louis.”

“Don’t start indulging me now,” he half-laughs, rubbing his arms like he’s cold even though it’s June. “It felt like the right thing to do, I don’t know. It’s just that—regardless of the fucked up things you did,” and Harry flinches there, can’t help himself, “this hurt you, too.”

It’s not a question, of course it’s not. They’d cried about it together, enough times for Louis to know exactly how heartbroken Harry had been.

They share a look, there in the dark corridor, that’s heavy with understanding, perhaps for the first time.

Anything you would like to say to your readers? thank you!! thank you all a million times over. i never, ever imagined my writing would get the kind of response it has gotten from everyone in this fandom. i get really overwhelmed when people say nice things and don’t always reply, but know that i see and appreciate all of it ♥ also, sorry for being shit and only posting once a year, lol.
