I would love to see your infodump extensively about the Thebaid (and particularly Polynices and Tydeus, both together and separately) if you're willing? I haven't read it yet and I'm not sure if I will (kinda struggling to find a translation that I don't find awkward to read, my brain just does not take in the words lol) but I love these two and want to know as much as possible

I am asking you mostly because I think you would enjoy talking about them lol but if you don't have time or wouldn't find it entertaining then you don't have to!!

hii thanks so much for the ask! i am literally always down to infodump about the Thebaid and especially about Polynices and/or Tydeus because those two freaks live rent free in my brain. i honestly have so many thoughts on them idk where to even begin lmao.

i guess I can do quick summaries and highlight some things from my previous read of Statius' Thebaid:

Tydeus is the son of Oeneus of Calydon and Periboea, daughter of Hipponous. This makes him the half-brother of Meleager (famous for being the host of the Calydonian Boar Hunt), who was the son of Oeneus' first wife Althea.

While this is not mentioned in Statius' Thebaid, Meleager and his siblings (Althea's kids) were likely already dead by the time Tydeus was born: according to other traditions, Oeneus marries Periboea in the aftermath of the quarrel over the Calydonian Boar (wherein Meleager and his brothers were killed, and his sisters were turned to birds by Artemis).

Tydeus does have a full brother in Statius' Thebaid, though; said brother is never named, unfortunately, but in other sources he is named Olenias.

Tydeus is exiled for the crime of killing said brother; we know he feels horror and guilt over it, but this is never brought up again. My personal headcanon is that the killing was accidental; for a very well written headcanon compilation on this, please check out Ley's post! (also: @aster-aspera wrote a fic!)

He encounters Polynices outside the palace of Argos, while trying to take shelter amidst a storm during the night. Neither of them are in the mood to tolerate each other's presence and decide to throw hands about it like mature adults. Here we learn that neither is unwilling to fight dirty - theyre kneeing the other's nuts and trying to jab out the other's eyes and almost end up taking out their swords before Adrastus intervenes.

Now, Tydeus happens to be wearing a boar's hide, and Polynices a lion's skin (notably, both of these animals are associated with the famous monsters of Calydon and Thebes: The Calydonian Boar, and the Sphinx, respectively. The narrative starts associating our two heroes with monsters very early on). Adrastus had received a prophecy telling him to marry his daughters to a lion and a boar - to ''men one mistakes for beasts'' - and so he almost immediately offers Polynices and Tydeus his daughters' hands in marriage.

Polynices is the son of Oedipus and Jocasta - and let's just say he's not exactly proud of the fact. he hesitates to reveal his parentage to Adrastus not once but twice, and when he finally does so, it's in a notably self-pitying manner. Polynices in general has a tendency towards self-deprecation, and though sometimes it's a ploy to gain sympathy, often it comes off as just. genuinely low self-esteem

Polynices and Tydeus become friends almost immediately after the brawl. the narrator in fact compares their relationship to Orestes and Pylades in Book 1, and literally calls them soulmates near the start of Book 2. like in case u had any doubts: these bitches gay

Also, Tydeus is actually more likely to insult Polynices than the other way around: he offhandedly insults Polynices' bloodline in Book 2, and calls him an idiot in Book 7 (to be fair, that time is more so out of concern). Polynices in contrast actually repeatedly praises Tydeus everytime he speaks to him (iirc he refers to him as ''greatest Tydeus'' at least twice). I know its funny for Polynices to make fun of Tydeus in fanworks, but there is literally zero evidence for that ever happening in the Thebaid lmao

Even though Adrastus promises both of them that he'll help them regain their kingdoms, Tydeus seems. honestly just uninterested in regaining Calydon? Like he brings it up exactly once, in his address to Athena after the ambush at the Sphinx's Rock, and never again. on the other hand he's more adamant about going to war against Thebes than even Polynices is - Polynices if anything is honestly very half-hearted about the whole thing, and Tydeus ends up being the real instigator of the war on several occasions.

Also - Tydeus is noted to be utterly incapable of sitting still or tolerating boredom. when he's not training or preparing for war he fills in the time with sports, more specifically wrestling matches. King of hyperactive ADHD tbh

I've also noticed that Tydeus has a tendency to allude to mythical events/past heroes etc. far more than others, in all his speeches? like all characters do it, because it's a staple of the epic genre, but Tydeus notably does it more often than others. i'm not saying his special interest is heroic history but. I'm also not not saying that

♡ caesar may do things her own way but she also takes on any valid suggestions other people provide her! and once caesar gets to know/trust you, she *absolutely* trusts you. and did i mention that caesar's has a soft tender side? she's a big romantic at heart, super curious about romance stories & media.. you might even catch her blushing!

♡ while caesar is primarily the 'top' of the duo, it's crowe who has the reins; her charisma and great perception skills allow crowe to find ways to make caesar's heart race in any way she can..! like,, crowe finds it amusing when she teases/flirts with caesar and caesar's pure reactions brings her an endearing sense of awe <3

♡ they're both notable figures of their own regions (crowe being from new eridu, caesar being from the outer ring) - and they also work really well together in terms of fending off rival biker gangs (in the outer ring), beating ethereals & ensuring that both of their circles are thriving!

♡ they are incredibly sweet with each other.... even caesar's gang and crowe's followers take notice and egg them on shfhhfgh-

What is the realm of the elderlings series and should I read it?

Hi!! Omg what a question, new mutual. My gut instinct is to answer yes, yes absolutely, bc I love ROTE and I’m always willing to recommend it! However—it can also be kind of intimidating to get into, so here’s some more info to help u make a decision:

���Realm of the Elderlings’ is the collective name for five different epic fantasy book series (all set in the titular realm) by Robin Hobb:

The Farseer Trilogy

The Liveship Traders Trilogy

The Tawny Man Trilogy

The Rain Wilds Chronicles (quartet)

The Fitz and the Fool Trilogy

There is some debate over the best reading order: Technically, according to most people, each series can stand on its own and be read individually. BUT the first, third, and fifth series focus on the same protagonist throughout different eras of his life. The second and fourth series are a duo. Essentially, only a few characters cross over into all five series, but 1, 3, and 5 focus on the same characters, and 2 and 4 focus on a lot of the same characters, if that makes sense.

Personally, I have been making my way through these in publication/chronological order (I’m on Rain Wilds rn), and that has worked really well for me. I love the main characters of series 1, 3, and 5, and getting to revisit them throughout their lives really makes them feel like real, growing people. I love the style of series 2 and 4, which are a lot more expansive and focus on ensembles of characters, and reading them feels satisfying, like watching a giant puzzle be put together as every plot piece clicks into place.

Some people skip around, reading series 1, 3, and 5 first and then going back to 2 and 4; some people don’t ever read 2 or 4; some people don’t ever read 1, 3, or 5; some people just read one series, feel satisfied, and never pick up another ROTE book again. All of these are totally fair! But I will recommend that The Farseer Trilogy is the logical place to start.

So here’s an actual description: Farseer, beginning with Assassin’s Apprentice, follows the life of FitzChivalry Farseer, the bastard son of the nation’s favorite prince. Upon learning of Fitz’s existence, his father abdicates from the line of succession, which leads to rising political tensions as Fitz’s two uncles now have to jockey for the throne. Meanwhile, Fitz is taken in by his father’s family but never formally recognized as royal, instead being trained to use his skills (and the magic he inherited) to serve the kingdom as an assassin and spy.

Here’s a less formal description: FitzChivalry Farseer is the dumbest boy alive and I love him so much. He’s a dog guy. He’s an unreliable narrator. His best friend is a genderfluid court jester with secrets, and their relationship will break your heart in the best way as it entangles both of them over the decades. There are dragons! There are wolves! There are scenes that will make you cry!! I get a lot out of these books, personally, as an asexual person; the importance of relationships outside of romantic/sexual contexts is shown. They deal a lot with family, and growing up, and the grief that comes as a side effect of living.

Plus, as a woman who has had to deal with a lot of bullshit fantasy misogyny in my reading, it was just refreshing to read such a sprawling, epic fantasy saga written by a woman. Hobb isn’t faultless; there are still some dated elements and tropes, but she tends to write her female characters with compassion and thoughtfulness, even when the narrative might be hard on them.

Ok. So. Hopefully that was helpful to you, and not just an overwhelming block of text and info! Even if you decide ROTE doesn’t sound like it’s for you or you try but can’t get into it, thanks for reaching out giving me the chance to spill my thoughts!! So. I’ve been ingesting a lot of Batfam/DC/Justice League things by osmosis thanks to my fyp. And since you’re the mutual who participated most to this situation, you have to check what I absorbed.

Batman, Bruce Wayne, billionaire who had his parents shot when he was a kid, raised by the butler Alfred. Who had 100000 lives before that. That guy has two hobbies: fighting crime as a vigilante, and adopting any orphan he lays his eyes on.

Which means there are a lot of kids who he turned into his sidekicks.

Then there’s the youngest, Damian. Who’s still a kid, so still Robin.

Oldest is Dick Grayson, first Robin, became… Nightwing once an adult, iirc. Might get the vigilante identities wrong.

Then there’s Jason Todd, died at 16, killed by the Joker, hates that his dad didn’t avenge him. Became a vigilante/crime lord. Name is Red Hood, I think? Bruce has a no kill rule, and cause of this there are lots of conflicts between the two. The resurrection went through something called the Lazarus Pit, which is uh… hell? Under Gotham? And a training center for villains?

Third in line is Duke, i don’t know his family name. Became Red Robin if I have my things correctly.

There are girls, too, Stephanie and Cassandra. And maybe Barbara? But I’ve seen her name in literally every position imaginable so I’m not sure what her canon role is.

The Justice League. All the heroes in one office. Funded by Bruce.

Superman/Clark Kent.

Wonder Woman/Diana, an Amazon.

You're right about Alfred, Bruce, Damian, Jason (my baby and favorite of all) and Dick. Duke is something like another and the newest kind of Robin (?, I'm not entirely sure about him either because all I know is due fandom but as I know about, he's some kind of day vigilante with light(? powers and his last name is Tomas(?. Tim Drake is the third Robin: a son of another millionaire who made his way into being Robin because he was bored (he's my little meow meow and favorite Robin). Stephanie was the fourth Robin and as far as I know Cassandra was the daughter of some group of assassins(? and then Bruce found her and another child to the family but she wasn't Robin.

Then Barbara was batwoman (? but something happened (idk what) and now she's Oracle.

OH AND I REALLY LIKE FLASH BUT I DIDN'T FOUND THE FLASHVERSE FANDOM YET. HIS NAME IS BARRY ALLEN AND HE'S JUST A SILLY LITTLE GUY, I LOVE HIM. Didn't read the comics (they're really expensive here and I want to buy them, not read them online) but I saw three seasons of the show. He's a pathetic man most of the time but we (me and the voices) love him for that. Oh, and there's also this one guy, Oliver Queen(?, who's also some kind of billionaire playboy and I heard he's so silly too. We love him too, it seems.

There's a lot of au's even in canon so I'm not entirely sure what is canon and what isn't anymore, so I just vibe with the fan content and agree with everything that's fun and fluff

(For example, Nodrian's older children are twin girls, one of them dating a boy and the other one dating a girl. Said boy and girl are leaders of their respective teams so ofc we had to create OCs for said teams)

We like to call that generation "Young Renegades" :))

However, the full reach of their power is that they can use it to travel to another dimensions, and by that I mean Terry can (and has) travel(ed) to all the other universes created by MM (TLC, Heartless, Instant Karma, Gilded...) as well as any of our AUs

Bc the only thing Dawnie and I love more than creating fanchildren, is creating AUs haha, so Terry often makes appearences in our fanfic/comic AUs

The characters from the main Renegades universe are aware of that, while their versions from the many AUs don't know Terry's not from their world

Terry specially loves crashing at the Teachers AU, where Nova & co + the Fortuna Beach gang are highchool students, while the Renegades Council, the Anarchists and the Rampion Crew are teachers, cuz that's the funniest AU Dawnie and I have created with all the characters from MM books lmao, our magnum opus 🤌

Anyway about Jean and Jacob headcanon I don't really see it. They're are just Two French men who had the same initials on their names and in older versions of the game they were part of the same regiment long time ago, which in my opinion is... that's all? They just share some characteristics, and you think they're family. Not offense, Dot Anon. U can still have that headcanon despite me not liking it. Something you really need to know is that I disagree with canon and popular fanon. (There are times that I can agree with popular fanon in case is a smaller fandom or the headcanons are intrested) creating my own fanon at once. Also Gaspard is some replacement or equivalent to that hc Jean ig?

So yeah... About Jean. I am not sure if Jean being a polite man who cares about others is main stream even if I disagree with fanon too dosn't mean I can take stuff about it. But yeah he is also that but the exception Jean has trauma beofre even the Napoleonic wars or the Blight  events happend. He raised in bad environment only being guide by his aunts during his childhood and teens seeing how people can act if despair is everywhere. Jean promise to take care of his aunts who where the only people that he trust and not only them but people who is in need. When he joined the war, he was cautious with everyone else but thanks to his optimistic views he gain respect to his regiment. The Blight expands around Europe and Jean and his regiment meet members of the 2ème Régiment du Génie and guess who was there too!

Jean saw Jacob bieng taking advantage of to take all the work the other members of his regiment don't want to do. Something that make him feel bugged out and confront Jacob for it. Jacob not used to people approaching him out of nowhere, he just explained that he needs to work in case the cannibals attack both armies and kept working. Jean won't he would remain with his arms crossed and makes sure Jacob takes care of himself and catch a break. During this time Jacob slowly begin to trust Jean even finally open to him and concider him as a friend. Until both regiments have to go by their own paths. Separaring the two friends in a war between the undead and the living.

Until the two finally reunite in Roscoff bucz Survivor AU.

Jean is basically the dopamine producer of this AU along Barry and other of my OCs and Jacob (and Millard) is force to have a overdose of it beacuse I have traumatized him a lot!!

Thier relationship is just Two friends that help each other and like to chat a lot. But they're times Jacob again forgot stuff so Jean (Barry, Klaus, Christian, Bell guy and my OCs also do the same thing with) him has to remind him that he dosn't have to overwork himself a lot.

For me, I think the reason I first got into it was because I liked the name. Ship it like fedex is just absolutely iconic. And also I project onto Dex. A lot. I used to have an obsession with finding 7-up trucks when I was younger so I think it was meant to be but that's up for debate.

Canonically, we see Dex and Fitz going from--I don't like to call them enemies because it was certainly one-sided on Dex's side. He was sooo mad. For reasons. Probably gay ones but he isn't aware of that. but sort of enemies--to friends. These scenes are just about the only things in the books I remember some days and we don't even get to see the one in neverseen where they agree to be friends. Nevertheless, a "enemies" to friends to lovers arc definitely is something that Is fun to play with in fics. Also this might be the aromanticism talking, but that kind of arc does require a certain amount of slowburn and I need that to believe anything.

Dex and Fitz are also foils of each other, especially in the first few books. While Fitz is perfect, Dex is the imperfect son of a bad match, and that contrast is just so, so fun.

But it's not just a case of opposites attract. Just like how kam works, they've got a whole bunch in common. We know that Fitz is the top of his class, so he is more than likely a giant nerd. We also know that Dex is a technopath (and I project onto him) so he's also more than likely a giant nerd. While they have different skill sets--I assign Dex all the stem stuff and Fitz the history and english stuff--they're absolutely going to be listening to each other infodumping about the new thing they learned this week and the listening one doesn't understand any of it. Adore that for them.

They're also angry little assholes in canon despite what fanon wants to do to Dex. Anger (especially at society) is a trait that I enjoy in my blorbos.

It's also very easy to write them to be extraordinarily oblivious to everything. And that's always fun. Fitz is going to be oblivious (even to his own feelings) as a requirement to participate in society and Dex isn't going to believe that Fitzroy Vacker knows that he exists.

And then as the brant guy I'm sure you understand how society making a relationship difficult is a fun concept and Fedex has that too. Them dating would be an automatic bad match and the fact that Fitz has to carry around his family's legacy is something I think about. A lot. Probably too much.

I'm not sure if you're seen but there's a character teaser released by hyverse where he talks abt being made from old technology and used to be part of a gang on the outer ring of new eridu (??) there's been some speculation it could be a new upcoming faction called sons of calydon since the insignia on their back is somewhat similar to the one on billys (?) but that's what I've seen other people speculate

I think he also talks abt being made as a combat android but its not clear who made him exactly or his exact purpose 🤷‍♀️

As for the starlight knight aspect from my personal opinion I think it's to play into his childish personality almost by giving him a silly interest akdjsk THIS PART IS A HEADCANON but in his teaser he also talks about 'gaining a taste of freedom' so I'm assuming he enjoys the show bc it's kind of him indulging in this freedom he's found if that makes any sense IDK KEFNKWKSN cause he's a silly character so they gave him some silly traits to make him an enjoyable character :]

1) before the aurora (the big ship you land in at the beginning of the game) crashed, there was actually another shipwreck about a decade beforehand called the degasi !! they have some of my favorite audio logs ever, bart torgal was the son of the captain and an aspiring marine biologist, i loved one of his logs so much that i memorized it for an assignment in my public speaking class in high school <3

2) my personal favorite creatures are the mesmer and the crabsnake :) idk how much u know abt subnautica so i am going 2 give u some pics here

<< this is the mesmer, it was mainly inspired by cuttlefish and uses those flashing purple and green stripes on its fins to hypnotize prey. super creepy in the game bc it overrides your survival PDA to make it tell you to "swim closer to that beautiful creature...." that voice clip is one of the creepiest in the whole game. i love it

<< this is a crabsnake !! they live in caves underneath the starter biome and actually make their nests inside the centers of those giant pink glowing mushrooms ! if ur not careful swimming around those, occasionally a crabsnake will pop out from the center and attack you (<< this just happened to me earlier while i was llaying and it scared the SHIT outta me)

3) when you build your base, there's a certain room you can get called an alien containment tank and its just a huge aquarium that gets put in the center of the room. you can find eggs out in the wild of almost every large creature in the game (with a few exceptions) and if you put those eggs in contaiment they will hatch into tiny harmless versions of otherwise huge and terrifying predators :] naturally that is my favorite thing to do ever. in order to get a crabsnake egg you need to lure one out of its mushroom and sometimes there will be an egg in the nest in the center !!! they r protecting their babies.....

The days pass, and soon enough, Micaiah's birthday dawns upon them again. The nature of it coming around, to be able to say it has come again, is charming in itself to Pelleas. The fact he could say he has lived long to meet it again— this little note of mundanity to it that feels all the more cherishable for the man with a limited clock, to know that he has known her long enough to meet this marker not just once…

…It brings a delight that Pelleas cannot contain, and when he greets the morning of her birthday, he does so with a smile.

“ Happy birthday, Micaiah, ” he tells her, unable to hide such joy. “ To tell you that again… To tell you the truth, I'm ridiculously happy. Is that weird? It's probably weird. Haha… I'm sorry. I can't explain it very well, but the sound of it makes me giddy. I don't know how to handle it. ”

He laughs, the sound of it near imperceptible, something between excitement and contentment riding through him as he languishes in the face of it all. How frightening to experience a joy this large, so illogically so, but despite his confusion at it all, he tries to embrace it nonetheless.

“ Ah, but I suppose I should give you this before I forget. The ribbon shimmers a bit in the light as he hands the gift box over. Contained within was a writing utensil made of ivory painted to look like the night sky and brass with fine detailing, evoking the imagery of bird wings. “ The trader in town called it a fountain pen. Fascinating, isn't it? It's so pretty, in my opinion at least, but it also writes! You put the ink inside and then twist and close the pen together, so you can carry it with you wherever you go and write whenever you need without carrying so many things or making a mess. No more quills! ”

It's that side of him that delights in sharing new discoveries and information with her that speaks brightly now, but he tempers his excitement a tad as he carries on.

“ I wanted to make sure this year I got you something you could use and that'd make your life more convenient. I'm not sure if I'd say you make my life more convenient, but I'd definitely say you've made it better, ” he babbles. “ I'm not sure who came up with the phrase 'Happy birthday,' but it's really what I feel. I'm so happy you were born… To think where I'd be if you weren't! I'm not sure I can imagine it. After all, you've saved my life, Micaiah. I mean it… ”

A pause settles as he reflects on everything they've been through to get to this point, and when he speaks up again, it is through a dreamy, tender state; words flow out from within him, little restraint to be had in each syllable.

“ …The thought that I'm able to tell you those words now. It doesn't feel real… but I hope I get the chance to see you and tell you this many more times. Every birthday of yours… I don't want to miss a single one from now on. For as long as you'll let me… ”

She’s on her way back from an early morning walk when Pelleas finds her, coming to meet him halfway as drawn to his smile as she is to the rising sun. It’s difficult to tell whether the jubilant feeling in the air is from Pelleas’s emotions, her own, or some mix but she is simply glad to be with him in the experience.

“I’m happy to hear it again,” she says simply, and thinks that if only for a moment like this she is glad she finally decided on a definitive date of birth.

She receives the box he gives her carefully, taking his excited expression and the continued explanations to mean she should open it, she does so, pocketing the ribbon for later. The utensil…the pen, rather, as Pelleas called it was too beautiful and intricate in make to keep in its package for long so she takes it out and marvels at both its form and Pelleas’s words both.

“It can write! Really?” Taken up in the excitement in the air her fingers itch to use it right away, but Pelleas has moved on before she can catch up and placing it back in the box carefully and listens.

You've saved my life Pelleas tells her and all Micaiah can think in the now seeing him so full of it - life, and spirit all his own - as beautiful as it was, how could she have ever chosen otherwise?

Of course, it had not been her actions alone; Pelleas too had chosen this – her and Daien, the chance to build a home neither of them had ever had. It was that gift most of all that meant the world to her.

“Keep telling me then,”Micaiah asks, putting the box carefully under one arm and taking Pelleass hand in her own, “until it feels real. You never need ask permission. Not from me.”

People act like parent-child relationships are super simple when Alicent is involved.

1) Otto:

Bit of a tangent but in my country (Spith Africa) when you're in grade 9 you u choose your subjects for grade 10 and maths is a must however you can choose which maths uore doing maths literacy or maths core. People who arent the best at maths should do maths literacy but you come across do many who choose maths core and other subjects they hate/have extreme difficulty with/zero interest in because of parental influence. They don't want to disappoint their parents and go against their wishes.

Now back to the show Otto tells Alicent to endear herself to Viserys in order to become queen. Otto is her father, ultimately he has a say in who she marries. She lives with him. We also see she struggles with anxiety. How exactly will she stand up to him in an epic girl boss move, in a medieval setting, when people these days struggle to do so with their own parents. It's not easy to go against your parents wishes and its especially not easy to disappoint them. What would Otto have done if she refused? If he was willing to pimp her out yo a man old enough to be her father, who basically killed his first wife would he sell her to a Ramsay Bolton type if it benefited him? Better the devil you know right?

2) her children.

Alicent was a child herself when she was forced to have them. She had to grow up fast and we see her struggle with anxiety and PPD, she has little to no support system around. The servants are there to assist but its their job. She has no one to looking out for her mental wellbeing. She is isolated and trapped in a golden cage by a dragon.

With Aegon she struggles with him because he shirks his duties and doesn't take anything seriously when his situation is a matter of life and death. She is scared for him and the others but he doesn't get it. People were calling Ned an idiot for nor securing his family's safety before working against Cersei but when Alicent does exactly that she's an awful mom.

When she tells Aegon he is not her son she is struggling to reconcile the image of her little that she raised on her own, the boy she tried to impart wisdom on with someone who would commit a monstrous act, something his (absent) father did to her. But she still loves him. She might not always like him but she was willing to stand between him and a literal dragon. Everything she has done has been for him and his siblings.

Helaena

One thing I find interesting and tragic about this relationship is that Alicent's main love languagea are acts of service and physical touch.(acts of service is her trying to keep the family together and securing peoples positions and safety. Physical touch in moments where words have failed her) She used it Rhaenrya alot when they were younger and she tries to use it on her children. Helaena has a touch aversion so we see her pulling away from her touch. (Which is why thstvone scene they actually hug is so beautiful)

Alicent nevertheless tries a different method, whole spending time together she asks Helaena about bugs. Yes she looks bored because the topic doesn't interest her but she is trying to engage with her(as someone who hyperfixtates then infodumps, this is enough. "Thank you for letting me vent about this even if you don't care about it" cause it shows that you at the care about me)

Aemond is her dutiful son who does his absolute best. She was distraught when he lost an eye and we see him return her physical gestures when she needs comfort.

Her love for her children is unconditional. She would do anything for them no matter what. She's not a perfect mom, but what parent is 100% perfect, but for a single teen mother of three, whose children's lives are constantly at stake she has done a damn good job.

Thank for furthering the Alicent agenda, chaotic coffee queen. We need brave soldiers out there fighting on the frontlines!

I agree with everything you said above. People have so much energy for hating Alicent as a mother, yet so very little for hating Viserys as a father. He is a footnote in his own family, yet viewers act as if his negligence couldn't possibly amount to behavioural issues in his own children or that Alicent should have somehow made up for it. ^^^ This. Alicent is bone-weary and has trouble expressing her emotions, especially in a way that gets through to her children. Each of them is so different from the other and what works for one doesn't necessarily work for the other. It's hard for her to calibrate her strategies to perfectly tailor every member of her family, as she doesn't have access to the kind of resources we now have for child development.

there’s kind of a lot to this au so i’ll give some of the more giratina and ingo centric bits!

-when ingo was taken by the space-time rift, he fell through the distortion world. giratina saw this and chased after him as he fell

-ingo doesn’t remember his fall but sometimes when he’s dreaming, he sees glimpses of the distortion world

-a lot of my giratina lore is v self indulgent but in short, i think she has nothing better to do in the distortion world i mean. how many times is someone gonna try to end the world to the point that you need to pop up and start getting shit done? so i like to think she kind of. spies on people and tries to help people with their problems. and if you’re REALLY fucked up, she’ll kind of adopt you and lend you some of her abilities to help you

-her blessings kind of vary but usually the more u stick around her and use her help, the more giratina features you start to get

-not a lot of people actually take that offer because frankly giratina does look like poke-satan so giratina mostly sticks to helping people in the shadows. BUT! she has had some people take the offer and now she’s adopted some people and likes to look after them :>

-ingo’s one of those people. but because his memories got wiped after falling into hisui, he doesn’t remember of that

-long story short, he’s very confused why this strange pokemon keeps following him around and appearing in reflections.

-he also always gets headaches when it’s around so he’s even less inclined to investigate what’s going on

-theoretically, giratina COULD just yoink ingo into the distortion world and send him home, but since ingo doesn’t have any of his memories, that’s. probably not the best idea

-giratina’s just sitting here looking at ingo like pspspsps hey here is a thing that holds an important memory to you will you please come look at it, meanwhile ingo’s just playing his flute for the sneaslets for the next three hours ignoring her

-eventually she gets tired and just. occasionally kidnaps ingo and brings him to the distortion world to try and explain to him directly what’s going on

-which. lady sneasler is NOT PLEASED about this

-you know how people joke about gliscor always stealing ingo’s hat and running off with it? giratina’s the opposite, every time ingo pops into the distorion world and his hat flies off, she just returns it to him and sets it on his head

-she also WILL pick up her newly adopted sun like a kitten this is the obvious best course of action

-essentially ingo realizes that giratina isn’t... hostile? and he generally gets the sense that she’s trying to look out for him, even if she does bring headaches every time she comes around

-but he still can’t understand giratina so most of the time the distortion world trips only last a couple minutes before ingo’s like “um. can i go home now? lady sneasler is probably worried”

-WHICH SHE IS!! UGLY STANTLER WHY DO YOU KEEP DISAPPEARING AND COMING BACK WITH STRANGE POKEMON SMELLS ON YOU!! DO I NEED TO KEEP YOU SAFE???

-i like to think. also at a certain point, idk when, emmet starts looking for ingo and fucking around with more. legendary type means to try and get him back. and giratina knows this and is like “okay so i have a schedule for getting this dummy to get his memories back”

-and if ingo can’t listen to her because he can’t understand... and he doesn’t know that she’s given him her blessing so he doesn’t really resonate with her... why not send one of her other adopted kids who DOES understand her to talk to ingo and explain everything?

-she decides that the best course of action would be to send her one adopted son who knows a lot about hisui and who honestly needs some friends because he’s been upset lately. maybe forcing him to make friends would be a world of good for him!

-and so she sends ingo to the distortion world again, but instead of seeing her
