First of i would like to apologize because unfortunately i have to sent this in two parts.. the hetero brother was on a roll. Anyway 1/2:
I legit walked into the living room to find my brother standing with the intro paused and him going ‘cmon loser, we got work to do!’ So here is the 2x02 report: ‘oh he’s going to Brian?! That’s right Jenny Jen, you are not stopi- wait THATS THE FUCKE- oh it’s a dream, we’re good! I mean he isn’t but boy, i was worried for a sec, oh poor baby! Wait, he hates being touched, i forgot! But he hugged my-i mena our man Bri Bri!’ ‘OH ITS MY BOY BRI BRI! oh damn i forgot that no more David means Michael stays..ugh, you win some you lose some’ that’s where I wanted to give a helping hand to Mikey so i said well technically he is one of the leads and he immediately scoffed at me and went ‘i think me, Brian and Justin would like to disagree with that terribly inaccurate statement, now shush!’ He is once again groaning at Mikey ‘really dude?! I mean i hate you but come on! And of course he liked dancing with Justin! Who wouldnt? i need him gone. Either the writers did a great job at writing him annoying and he’s really good at acting OR the guy sucks and im picking up on his vibesss either way, stop it’ ‘duty as a father to build a swing set? Wait..did we have a swing set? I gotta talk to dad about that bc he never got us a swing!’ He is currently very sad over the Jen/Deb scene but hes still mad at Jen so he keeps scoffing at her. ‘that’s right Deb! Someone else! BRIAN! FFS! Not after what happened?! Was Brian the one swinging the bat? No. if there was no Brian, justin would be dead! And WHY IS DEBBIE NOT CALLING HER OUT ON HER BLAMING BRIAN?! WHY AM I THE ONLY ONE PROTECTING HIM?! This is a very hard job for me! It’s only my 5th day here and I’m on drugs and in pain. But fuck it, Bri Bri needs me! Hit play again, im ready’ and we got to the loft scene and he hid under his hands bc it’s just like the dream. ‘Wait it’s my man Bri!! Oh no! Oh no! justin this isnt him talking to you! It’s your mothers fault. He wants you there i swear he told me himself, i mean not really but like the way he looked at you in the last episode said everything, you just didnt see it bc they had you looking away in the script’ (is this the point where i start worrying about his mental state?) ‘OH HE FIGURED IT OUT! He knows its your fault jenny! My boy took a bat to his head but he still knows that 1+1= his mom being a lil bitch. OH SHIT IS SHE OKAY? Damn i feel conflicted now, nvm she’s okay’. My favorite part is now coming up that ive been dying to see his reaction to and ofc it did not disappoint ‘OH ITS JEN! And my boy BRI! Now what does she want? She wants a favor? What is he red cross? She wants him to TAKE HIM? Take him where? Like take him to LA (narrators note: bless his heart) or like what? What other way can he be taken? What is she sayin- thank you Bri for asking bc she wasn’t listening to me! “Standing there helpless, do you know what it feels like?” GIRL IS WATER WET?! OFC HE KNOWS HE WATCHED HIM ALMOST DIE! Jenny what are you saying touch him, make more sen-oh wait..oh no, oh wait is she asking him to fuck Justin?! JENNY IS THAT WHAT YOURE ASKING?….do you think mom would pimp me out like that? Although the last date she set me up on the girl started praying before eating (cue me saying i mean thats not THAT bad) IT IS WHEN ITS IN MCDONALDS.. she wants him to fuck him oh god, i mean I’m down and so are they! Lets go..im tired’
Okay dear sweet anon and brother anon. I just got to my office and I have TEARS streaming down my face from laughing so hard. Luckily, my office is therapy office so there are tissues. I gotta pull myself together.
I’m going to post your messages without comment because I go into back to back meetings soon and I cannot without them from the world.
So 1/3.

Aizawa being a crackhead with his partner lolol (Please and thank you 💗)
Your welcome 😘
Tumblr media
"You're going to get sause in my hair!" You laughed at aizawa from behind the wall
Aizawa chuckled, "its only payback y/n."
Aizawa and you were cooking dinner
Which was something you didnt do together often
But the two of you had a night off and wanted to do something together
And somehow making a homemade pizza was what you went with
But somewhere in that the two of you started making a mess more then a pizza
You had playfully threw some cheese at him after he made a comment
And the next thing the two of you were having a food fight woth the ingredients
"If i put these toppings down will you put the sause down?" You called out
"I dont know you'll have to come see." He said with a smile in his voice
It was very rare that shouta with indulge in silly things like this
But you loved it every time he did
"Then I'm not coming out!"
"Fine fine!" He called out, "ill put it down."
You heard him place the bowl down
And you peaked your head out
To see him put his hands up in the air
You were smiling, "im glad to see you've come to your sens-" before you could finish
Aizawa had flung some sause at your face suprising you
"Shouta!!!" You shouted tackling him down
The two of you wrestled trying to cover the other in sause for a while
Until things started to get a bit hot and heavy
But Aizawa would stop, "we've made a mess."
Looking around youd see he was right, "im not even hungry anymore."

suna grits his teeth, the light's too strong for him to see. he close his eyes shut, having no intentions to torture his eyes at the glow infront of him that is brighter as his mothers cellphone brightness. a deafening sound screeches at his ears like metal scratching another metal, oh how annoying that sound is.
he squints his eyes slightly as if his default eyes wasn't squinted enough. he could see a person, a female he assumes by their figure alone whose back faced towards him but the luminescence made his sight blur, he couldn't identify who it is
voice echoed insignificantly, he doesn't know whose is it nor where it's coming from except the voice started to scratch him in the head displeasingly
rintarou! rintarou! rintarou!
sunas eyes blinks open once to be greeted by his mother scowling after he has bestir himself from a horrible dream. he could hear a small voice saying 'oh no' inside his head as it's definetely not the first time he woke up to an angry face
"do you have any idea what time it is?" his mother barked, her face continues to grimace at her son. suna sits up groggily and reached for his phone beside him
12:47 pm
"how many times to i have to tell you to not stay up late!" she berates before pulling his cushion up, causing him to fall a bit from his stance and gets hit with it
"ow─! you just hit me with a pillow!" suna winces, strands of his dark hair are all over the place
"better than a slipper or your face would look even worse than just messy hair" the mother threatens before leaving the territtory so casually like she had not scolded anything at his sons ears. senzo could only choke a laugh at the freaky scene that occured upon his room, he had identified his apathetic relative as a fellow who would only shrug their shoulders when being rebuked or insulted. suna is infact a 'take no shit' kind of man, he's just wholesomely a bit playful with his mother.
suna goes down the stairs slothfully as his body might not be running his blood yet and he took a bit too long to go to the dining room where his food rests on the table cold as a corpse
"if you have woken up ealier it would have been warmer" his mothers interrupts from the living room. suna rolls his eyes then sneers  at his mother from the room
'i wasn't even complaining but i am now' he thought as he opens the large plate that covers his meal, his boiled eggs as soggy as ever
he sits down at the at the table then started contemplating about his recent dream, was it even a dream? though it seems a bit vague but vivid when he was still in a slumber. suna reckons it was just another weird hallucination. he has quite plenty of those so this one is no special, except that this peculiar reverie didnt have any sort of plot unlike the time he dreamt about the miyas and some random player from karasuno that he'd only seen once have a bachelors party at a couple he had seen in a movie before while also drinking blue liquid which now is extremely questionable but that was just an example of the long list
suna hears a soft thump going down the stairs, he glance to see his cousin all dressed up for the day
"hey sen, are you going somewhere?"
"uh.. yeah, why?"
"can i go with you?"
"sure..."
senzo probably didn't sound sure himself, well that's because he isn't used to people wanting to join him to go outside or anything at all and he was receiving a small friendly treatment from a cousin he didn't knew existed and vice versa.
the two went out briefly after suna changing into some proper clothing for the day, the walk is quiet like the usual though they do give some comments here and ther. the sun sweltered upon them while two or three clouds wafts against each other.
"im going this way, is there a place you wanted to go?" senzo asks after an abrupt stop
suna truthfully didn't have a particular destination, he went with him 'cause he felt like it. they went far for him to just go back, he thought for a long minute before a specific location passes in his head.
"yes, actually
"i'll see ya later then" senzo says before walking away
suna felt awkward since his destination is far from where they had gone to
he doesn't know why he's making his way there, for fresh air? for the scenery? for someone?
suna halts as he sees a narrow space in the side of the hill, he figured it's also a path way up to the old patio he visited. he begins walking upwards and repents at his decision mid-way. the path is rocky and hard to stay still on because of the numerous inconsistent rock shapes. it doesn't help that there's a hot atmosphere around him as he continues to go up carefully.
sweat drips down his forehead, his tiny strands of bangs sticking along on it. the heat annoyed him as he reaches the top of the mountain hill, the sun beams directly at the crest where he now stands but once he finished catching his breath the brightest star seems to appear infront of him.
somehow the fieriness of this evening─the reason he's such a sweaty mess─suna doesn't seem to mind it anymore as he watches the the girl he had came across twice stand infront of him. she was there, like she had always been, tossing a ball over her head for who knows how long.
'wait, she does volleyball?'
i mean, he could see it but at the same time not so much?
though you were tad bit taller for an average height of a female and you don't look like you hold any outstanding physical attributes either but he can't really underestimate you that quickly can he?
sunas being remained unnoticed due to her keeping her concentration firmly. she tosses the ball up into the air, patently going to do a jump serve. from her evident zealousness you would be tricked that she'll actually spike or even jump with experience. she was slow and her legs looked stiff when she leaped, hell, she didn't even swing her arms in time, she barely even touched the ball.
'uhh.. that was an awkward serve' her attempt to serve was futile and funny even, suna can't help but to chortle instead of detaining it, his attempt to be discreet wasn't great either. she let's out a light gasp as soon as she heard him cackling from the side, she already was embarrassed at her shot but now that the same cute boy she saved from the market is a witness at her own frustration made her embarrassment go off the line than where it should be
"that was an impressive serve you just did" suna starts sarcastically whilst disturbingly taking little steps towards her. she could only scream her embarrassment deep on her palm, peeking her eyes through one of the gaps to see him, picking up the ball from the ground.
"how long have you been here?"
"long enough to see eveything"
"pleas erase it from your memory" she says blatantly as she finally regains her composure, suna shrugs at her as he hands the ball back to her, she unhesitatingly grabbing it back only for him to extend his arm up. the ball being too high for her too reach since the boy teasing her is intimidatingly tall.
"it's not that easy" suna replies as he looks down at the figure shorter than him giving him an irratating frown, "what do you know about volleyball?" she mumbles, her eyes looking elsewhere.
"alot of things" he remarks with a heavy stare. the girl infront of him  seems surprised and asked "do you play?" which he answers with a curt nod. the silence after that is conscious and creates a long stare-down between the two, in addition to that is the beating heat of the sun baking them from below like they weren't perspiring enough from the exercise they had done in such a time.
"i'll just take this back then" she says as her feet tip-toes close to his level, the tip of her fingers hardly brushing off the ball. suna just stands there leisurely as he watches the girl he doesn't even know struggle into obtaining her property back.
suna gazes down at her meek nature, her cheeks faintly glows a pretty shade of pink, her hair  cascading down her neck every now and then, the sun rays paints her skin too perfectly
suna smiles slightly as he pokes a little fun with her and having fun himself except to the part where he begins to feel her chest nudging his whenever she jumps and immidietly gave her her ball back smoothly. "here" he says before walking away from his agitation
she cocks an eyebrow at him when she turns around to face his retreating figure, his phone buzzed at his pocket, opening it to get a message from his mom and the second years groupchat, well maybe third years for noow on. yet suna couldn't be bothered to open either of them seeing as his mom just texted him some chores whilst the groupchat is just filled with the twins nonsense.
"could you play with me for a little while?" she asks reluctantly, dugging her nails on the air-filled ball
suna is bewildered at the instantaneous request but he figured it's better to take up on her behest than do his mothers errands anyway
turning his heel back, he meets her big eyes with his flat slanted ones and his actions seems to answer her offer
✥﹤┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈﹥✥
"what made you think playing straight under the sun was a great idea?" suna complains, panting heavily as the sun eventually plummets down. they stayed up on top for hours and instead of actually playing suna ended up teaching her the basics of volleyball for goodness sake she was an extremely slow learner.
"what do you mean? i like it up here" her tone filled with confusion as she questions him
"the sun literally fried us"
"you don't look that good to me"
"huh?" suna's brain is now all muddled by her statement causing him to give a repulsive look, she didn't seem too bothered by how she voiced her proclamation and only started walking down the stairs, suna following behind.
"you must be thirsty, i'll buy us some drinks, my treat" she announces as she holds out her baby blue colored wallet, turning left as they reached down the stairs, the vending machine is conveniently there aswell. "any preference?" she inquires only for suna to shook his head
"water is enough" he answers shortly
their drinks clank down at the bottom of the machinary and some gulping could be heard subseuquently. suna exhales lowly after drinking some refreshment. the wind passes and gives a cold whisk ontop of their skin, the sky is painted deep orange along with pale red. they soon walk in silence with the cold bottles, hers being a can of juice in their hands.
"can we play again?" she unexpectedly mutters shyly
suna glances at her, the tip of her ears turning incredibly red. "don't you have your own friends?" he mentions as he takes another sip. "i know quite a few people but only one or two are actually my friends and neither of them plays volleyball" she explains with her eyes shut
"if you're that wishful to learn the sport why not join your school volleyball club?"
she groans "i can't, my father doesn't let me join any after school activities"
"why?" sounding invasive only crossed his mind once she gave him an answer
"my dad is very strict, i need to be home before five he says" she mocks her father at the end of her sentence in a playful intention
"you're already pass your curfew, you child"
"you look the same age as me though"
"oh really?" they banter and it felt like they have known each other by a relatively long time. he enjoys her company it's fairly not too solemn and to him it feels nice to have a friendly jest with someone who won't intend to cause any issues unlike some two other people..
the usual tranquil in every interaction seem to be becoming consistent and recurring, they soon throw their bottles away in the trash bin sitting down the street like any other decent person
"so can we play again?" she asks the second time with a little more anticipation
suna didn't answer and only looks at her emotionlessly. does he really want to? she was nice but she's rather tenacious, there was a moment where he wanted to leave during the whole session. it seems the longer he stayed quiet, the more she  became impatient
"come on! the guys who plays at the public court always looks intimadating"
"and i'm not?" he snickers while his eyebrow rose
"well, i didn't have the ideal impression of you at first though but now you seem like a cool guy" she explains giving him a small thumbs up
"do you mean when you rescued me in the market?"
"no, earlier than that" suna thinks for a moment to the point of looking up on the dark sky before the memory finally getting into his head
"oh, you mean the birdnest hair? yeah i remember now" he teases with a little smile
"it's not like you looked any better with your own hair at the time"
"so─!" she starts a little louder than her monotonious voice before smiling at him keenly exactly how she eyed him the last time they met "how about it city boy!"
suna sighs and scrunched his nose at the nickname, he presumes because of his unfamiliar dialect "you're that persistent, and why city boy?"
"i never got your name after all this time, you know" nor did he ever got her name
suna looks down for a moment, he couldn't fathom what is wrong with him just telling her his name, it's not like he won't get hers when he answers.
"suna rintarou" he replies blankly
"suna rintarou?" she says questioningly, he nods his head
"suna rintarou... suna rintarou" she repeats in a breathy whisper as if engraving his name in her mind
"l/n y/n" she introduces herself back, "nice to meet you, suna" suna didn't reply much and only says "likewise" back and continuous the conversation where they have left just before the introduction.
suna rests his hand in his pocket, "you seem too willing to hang out with someone you only met thrice"
"i like you anyway so it's fine!" she beams a little too bluntly and it didn't help how she closed the proximity between them, literally doesn't intend to let him go off the question.
"sure"  he mouthed rather than openly saying it
"what?"
"i said i'll think about it" he claims as he turns his back to her to turn on the side of the sidewalks, "see you! you should know by now where to find me if you ever want to see me" she emphasized, waving her hands at him which suna imitated briefly before disappearing to her sight completely.
✥﹤┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈﹥✥
"curse you gate!"
the door slides open revealing her father staring at her expectantly waiting for her with his arms crossed just rught after she got inside the platform
"what's your excuse this time?" he awaits, his finger tapping his forearm
y/n stops her foot on the soft muck as she faces her humble abode. she struggles to open the gate as quietly as possibly but the damned steel gate really wanted her caught, huh?
"i.. was playing volleyball.." she says with all honesty as she step infront of the doorstep
"alone again?" his father assumes, he doesn't understand why she keeps sneaking out outside just to be doing things all by herself
"nope, with a newly found friend this time" y/n murmurs as she takes off her shoes before entering her home nonchalantly. she wouldn't mind getting in trouble for the day and her father takes note of her uplifted mood quizzically

via FiveThirtyEight
Welcome to a weekly collaboration between FiveThirtyEight and ABC News. With 5,000 people seemingly thinking about challenging President Trump in 2020 — Democrats and even some Republicans — we’re keeping tabs on the field as it develops. Each week, we’ll run through what the potential candidates are up to — who’s getting closer to officially jumping in the ring and who’s getting further away.
Although there was a lot of attention this week in the media on whether major names like Joe Biden and Beto O’Rourke will get into the Democratic presidential race, candidates who have already been on the official campaign trail staked out positions on big issues that have been in the news. Although Democrats are generally unified on immigration — denouncing President Trump’s proposed border wall — fractures are forming around “Medicare-for-all” proposals and the “Green New Deal.” Progressive candidates have faced some pushback from the field’s centrists, who believe that their aims could be achieved in a more incremental fashion.
Here’s the weekly candidate roundup:
Feb. 8-14, 2019
Stacey Abrams (D) On Friday, Abrams is visiting Washington, where she will deliver a speech at the Democratic National Committee’s Winter Meeting and participate in a discussion about race and political power in the United States at the Brookings Institution. Michael Bennet (D) The Colorado senator hinted at a presidential run during an appearance on “Meet the Press” on Sunday. “We’ve got a million people that are going to run, which I think is great,” he said. “I think having one more voice in that conversation that’s focused on America’s future, I don’t think would hurt.”
Bennet discussed his diverse professional background as one of the ways he was different from the field’s current candidates, citing his time in business and as Denver Public Schools superintendent.
On policy, he joined many Democrats in supporting a public health care option but said that such a plan did not necessarily mean that private insurance should be eliminated. Joe Biden (D) The Washington Post reported Thursday that Biden was still undecided about a presidential campaign, noting that he originally intended to decide by the end of 2018.
On Wednesday, CNBC wrote that Biden is signaling to several Democratic donors that he is leaning toward joining the presidential field but that his decision is not yet final.
The former vice president eulogized the late Rep. John Dingell on Tuesday, saying that the longtime Michigan congressman was one of only a few people he “looked up to.”
“He gave me confidence,” Biden said. “He made me believe more in myself more than I had. John had that special capacity to do so. Because when you are with him, you knew you were with greatness.” Michael Bloomberg (D) The billionaire former New York City mayor is prepared to spend at least $500 million during the presidential campaign cycle to defeat Trump, Politico reported Wednesday.
“That’ll get us through the first few months,” said Kevin Sheekey, one of Bloomberg’s top aides, noting that Bloomberg put $100 million into his last mayoral election.
Last Friday, Bloomberg told The Associated Press that he would reach a decision on a presidential run by the end of February and pushed back on speculation that he would not run if Biden launched a campaign. “My decision doesn’t depend on what other people are going to do,” he said. “My decision depends on whether or not I think I can make a difference.” Cory Booker (D) Booker visited Iowa and South Carolina during his first weekend on the campaign trail as a declared presidential candidate. In Iowa, the New Jersey senator continued to pitch his theme of unity and optimism to voters. In South Carolina, he addressed racial discrimination, saying that the country needed a leader who is “telling the truth about racism, not participating in racist statements, demeaning and degrading people like we’re seeing now.”
In an interview with MSNBC on Tuesday, Booker said that if he wins the Democratic nomination, he will “be looking to women first” when he considers a running mate. “I believe there should be a woman president right now, and I worked very hard to get one,” he said. “We have such a great field of leaders. I think that you will rarely see a Democratic ticket anymore without gender diversity, race diversity.”
This weekend, Booker will be in New Hampshire for six events across the state. Sherrod Brown (D) Brown said that he’s “not ready to jump” into the presidential race during a Christian Science Monitor breakfast Tuesday. But he has given himself a March deadline to come to a “joint decision” with his wife, journalist Connie Schultz.
The Ohio senator rolled out two bills Wednesday with Democratic colleagues on Capitol Hill: The first is a “cost-of-living refund,” which would double the Earned Income Tax Credit; the second would lower the Medicare eligibility age to 50, allowing people to buy in voluntarily. Steve Bullock (D) The Montana governor will visit Iowa this weekend. Bullock has said that he is unlikely to make a public announcement about whether he will launch a campaign until later in the spring, after Montana’s state legislative session. Pete Buttigieg (D) The mayor of South Bend, Indiana, joined MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on Thursday morning for a lightning round of questions on where he sits on the ideological spectrum. “I consider myself a pretty strong progressive, but I don’t consider the left-center spectrum to be the most useful way to look at our politics right now,” he said.
Last weekend, Buttigieg made his first trip to Iowa since announcing his presidential exploratory committee. While there, he shared his support for “Medicare-for-all” and the Green New Deal (which seeks to make massive public investments to combat climate change) while continuing to play up his military background and executive experience.
In an interview with New York magazine, Buttigieg expanded on how his local experiences could be helpful in the Oval Office, using South Bend’s sewer system as an example. “They’re so important that we make sure they work basically all of the time. Which is why you never think of them — that’s kind of the point,” he said. “But it’s not that different from national security. It’s like I say, the more freedom [people experience], the less they think about it.”
In both the New York magazine story and an interview with CNN, Buttigieg was critical of the social views of Vice President Mike Pence (a former Indiana governor and U.S. House member), saying to CNN that “politically [Pence] is a fanatic and he damaged our city and our state through choices that his social extremism led him to make.” Julian Castro (D) In a CNN interview Saturday, Castro said that even though he knows his candidacy has “special meaning for the Latino community,” his message is intended to be all-encompassing. “I’m also aware that I have to have policy proposals and a vision that includes everybody,” said Castro, who is a former mayor of San Antonio and served as the secretary of Housing and Urban Development in the Obama administration. Bill de Blasio (D) De Blasio was scheduled to visit New Hampshire on Friday, renewing speculation that the New York City mayor is contemplating a presidential campaign. But he canceled the trip after a New York City police detective was killed during a robbery Tuesday. John Delaney (D) The former Maryland congressman spent the first half of the week in New Hampshire, his 14th trip to the state. He opened an office in Manchester and attended a “politics and eggs” breakfast at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics — one of 10 events in three days.
Delaney broke with several other Democratic presidential contenders by revealing that he was opposed to the Green New Deal. Tulsi Gabbard (D) During her first visit to Iowa as a presidential candidate, the U.S. House member from Hawaii and National Guard major touted her dedication to service and outlined her views on foreign policy, responding to criticism over her recent comments about Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. In Iowa, she said he was a “brutal dictator” but said that she didn’t feel the United States should be “the world’s police.” Kirsten Gillibrand (D) Gillibrand toured South Carolina, with seven stops across the state, from Friday through Sunday, including meetings with Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin, who leads the National Conference of Mayors, and a group of women leaders.
The New York Times highlighted Gillibrand’s “feminist campaign” Tuesday, describing how advocacy for women has already become a centerpiece of her candidacy and one that differentiates her from fellow female Sens. Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren thus far.
This weekend, Gillibrand is again visiting New Hampshire for a collection of meet-and-greets, walking tours and town halls, after having traveled to the Granite State just two weeks ago. Kamala Harris (D) Harris attracted headlines Monday after she admitted during a New York radio interview to having smoked marijuana in college. “I did inhale,” the California senator said. “It was a long time ago, but yes.”
The remarks came during a larger discussion about marijuana, during which Harris said it wasn’t true that she opposes its legalization. She said that she supports legalization but has “concerns” and that its effects on users should be researched. John Hickenlooper (D) The former Colorado governor visited New Hampshire on Wednesday and Thursday and said he’s going to decide on a presidential run in the next “six weeks.”
During his stop at a Manchester house party, Hickenlooper joked about his unusual surname and how it taught him in his childhood how to “deal with bullies” — a reference to how he would approach running against Trump.
Hickenlooper added that he still wants to learn more about the Green New Deal and criticized Trump’s proposed wall on the U.S.-Mexico border while also saying that there are “border security issues” to solve. Eric Holder (D) After a speech at Drake University in Iowa on Tuesday, Holder, a former U.S. attorney general, said he would reach a decision on a presidential run in the next three to four weeks. “I’m concerned about the direction of the country,” Holder said. “I think I’ve got some ideas and visions that I think would be useful to the nation.”
On the issues, Holder said that the U.S. was “at a point where we should think seriously about [marijuana] legalization” and that he supports the Green New Deal, labeling it “our generation’s moonshot.” Amy Klobuchar (D) Klobuchar launched her presidential campaign Sunday during a snowy outdoor event in Minneapolis. She outlined her humble political roots and described her motivations for getting into the race. “I’m running for every parent who wants a better world for their kids,” she said. “I’m running for every student who wants a good education. For every senior who wants affordable prescription drugs. For every worker, farmer, dreamer, builder. For every American. I’m running for you.”
In an appearance Monday on “Good Morning America,” the Minnesota senator defended herself against allegations that she was abusive toward her Senate staff, conceding that she is “tough” and “push[es] people” but said that it was because she holds “high expectations.”
She mocked the president after he, referring to her kickoff rally, tweeted that it was “bad timing” that she was “talking proudly of fighting global warming while standing in a virtual blizzard of snow, ice and freezing temperatures.”
“I’m sorry if it still snows in the world,” Klobuchar said on “Good Morning America” on Monday. “But the point is that we know climate change is happening.”
Next Monday, Klobuchar will participate in a CNN town hall in New Hampshire. She will then travel to Iowa on Thursday. Jeff Merkley (D) Merkley is “still exploring” a run for president, he told Northwest Labor Press this week. The Oregon senator denied that his decision will be based on whether Bernie Sanders, whom he endorsed in 2016, decides to run. Seth Moulton (D) After telling BuzzFeed News on Monday that he is thinking about running for president, Moulton confirmed the sentiment publicly Tuesday during question-and-answer sessions after a foreign policy speech at the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C.
“I’m thinking about running for president,” Moulton said in the BuzzFeed interview. “I’m not definitely running, but I’m going to take a very hard look at it. A very serious look at it. Because I believe it’s time for a new generation of leadership, and we gotta send Donald Trump packing.”
The Massachusetts congressman added that his decision will not be based on who else launches campaigns, saying that he doesn’t “look at this as a horse race.” Beto O’Rourke (D) As Trump held a campaign rally in El Paso, Texas, O’Rourke defended his hometown during a protest march Monday, criticizing the president for his rhetoric on immigration. “We are making a stand for the truth, against lies and hate and ignorance and intolerance,” O’Rourke said. “El Paso has been the safest city in the United States of America not in spite of the fact that we’re a city of immigrants but because we are a city of immigrants.”
Trump mentioned O’Rourke during his event, referring to the former U.S. House member as “a young man who’s got very little going for himself, except he’s got a great first name.”
Politico reported Wednesday that O’Rourke met with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to discuss a possible run for Senate against Texas Sen. John Cornyn, a Republican, in 2020. Tim Ryan (D) Ryan is “seriously considering” a presidential run, he said on CNN’s “Erin Burnett Outfront” on Wednesday.
The Ohio congressman, perhaps best known for his 2016 challenge to Nancy Pelosi to lead House Democrats, added that he doesn’t “feel any pressure for any timeline at this point.”
“The country is divided,” Ryan said. “We can’t get anything done because of these huge divisions that we have, and people in communities like the ones I represent … are suffering because of this division. You can’t win the future divided.” Bernie Sanders (D) Sanders is leaning toward announcing a presidential campaign by the end of February, Fox News reported Thursday, citing two sources close to the Vermont senator.
Earlier in the week, amid the controversy that engulfed Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar, a Democrat, over a tweet interpreted to be anti-Semitic, Sanders called the freshman congresswoman to offer his support, The Daily Beast reported. Howard Schultz (I) The former Starbucks CEO continued to face criticism from Democrats over his potential independent bid for president, and Schultz returned the favor, discussing his misgivings with both Democrats and Republicans at a CNN town hall Tuesday. “Both parties today on the far left and the far right are more interested in partisan politics, revenge politics,” Schultz said. “I think we could be doing so much better than we are.”
During the event, Schultz acknowledged that his “business experience is not qualification to run for president.” But he argued that he could bring a pragmatic, results-focused approach to combating problems like climate change and economic inequality. Elizabeth Warren (D) Warren officially jumped into the 2020 race, announcing her candidacy for president at a rally in Lawrence, Massachusetts, last Saturday. Before a crowd of 3,500 supporters packed into Everett Mills — the site of one of the most famous labor strikes that catalyzed massive changes to labor rules — Warren said: “Millions and millions and millions of American families are also struggling to survive in a system that has been rigged by the wealthy and the well-connected. Hard-working people are up against a small group that holds far too much power. … Like the women of Lawrence, we are here to say enough is enough!”
Warren took the stage to Dolly Parton’s “9 to 5” before making her official announcement and kicking off a tour through early-voting states. She made her debut as a presidential candidate in Dover, New Hampshire, before heading to Iowa on Sunday. She continues on to South Carolina, Georgia, Nevada and California this weekend. Bill Weld (R) Weld, the former governor of Massachusetts and 2016 Libertarian vice presidential candidate, is attending a New Hampshire Institute of Politics “politics and eggs” event on Friday.
Citing Republican sources, WMUR reported Wednesday that Weld’s remarks at the event will include a “substantial move toward a challenge to President Trump.” Weld recently re-registered in Massachusetts as a member of the Republican Party. Marianne Williamson (D) Williamson, a popular self-help author and one-time congressional candidate, was profiled by ABC News’s “Nightline” this week. She explained her desire to get into the presidential race, despite her lack of political experience.
“I think what we need in the White House is more a visionary than just a political mechanic,” she said. “America is morally off course. … More than anything else in America today, we need a moral and spiritual awakening.”
“We need an awakening of American minds,” Williamson added. “Show me any traditional politician who’s had a 35-year career at that kind of awakening. That’s a skill set. That’s experience. That’s expertise. And I believe it is a qualification that would — you would do very well to put in the White House.” Andrew Yang (D) Yang is spending his own money to demonstrate his proposed “Freedom Dividend,” a form of universal basic income that would pay all Americans 18 years or older $1,000 per month. One family each in Iowa and New Hampshire are already receiving $1,000 per month from the entrepreneur, according to CBS News.

Note
It’s been almost a year from the drama. What are your thoughts on all the principal actors? How have you been holding up?
I didnt realize until months later after the drama has ended that its extremely exhausting and energy draining to be part of it. People keep spamming the comment sections of my posts with the stuff I didnt even do to this very day (not much on youtube anymore, but on other sites where I post) and theres a whole antifa subreddit which creates fiction about me on a regular basis. But I am quite glad that all my detractors got whet they deserved from other factors.
Prison Mate Luke was the first elimination, as he burned himself with so much lies and BS that even his friends had to put him down (just stop especially). He became a decently sized channel in less than a year thanks to drama, and drama is what destroyed him in the end.
Creepshow Art was the second big self-destruct. She had built this SJW queen persona over the years, and then it turned out she was only playing a role. Deep down she is a maniac, crazy obsessed witch controlled by her sick husband. That woman she harassed  for years put the last nail in the coffin of Shannon.
Hopeless PEaches was a low level detractor as she did only one video on me, but soon after her long and confusing drama has finished and she regained her lost subs, she decided to quit Youtube. Who knows for how long or if its for good, but either way she shouldnt play with fire if she cant handle the heat of online drama. She is the only person I feel that can learn from her mistakes in this list.
HarleyTBS was recently been exposed for contant manipulation and lying, as he used so much clickbait to get views he even fabricated the whole groomer story to get clout. He recently admited to it, but because hes a small channel nobody will really cover this. He also had some beef with Sen, and so he ended up apologizing to Sen for being a cunt. Harley is a dirty rat, and an ugly teenager, but maybe there is still hope for him when he learns what the real world is like outside his bubble He still thinks spanking a child is porn....
Just Stop. Nothing much to say, he gave up doing commentary on drama shortly after the Creepshow debacle, as he realized that he can get the same treatment as Shannon did one day for all the fucked up shit he got away with so far. He is a minor (almost 18) so nobody wants to touch him in fear that they would get called a bully. But I dont think he will remember these teenage years he wasted on shitty drama videos to be worth it when he grows up. He already posts regularly how he suffers from anxiety, depression etc. This is only a start of a typical cartoon/anime reviewer.
Daft Pina is the only one who is a stubborn enough pimple that wont be completely squeezed just yet. This year he did have a mixed bag of videos, some were successful on youtube in terms of views, but twitter saw most of them as sign that he is next in line to get the cancel treatment. Im still surprised the Discord Incel video got so much views and likes despite being completely wrong in every single way lol . AetherionArt can say his slurs as much as he wants, he black, gay and whatever else. But calling him an incel is pretty dumb, yet Dafts fans eat it all up. Not to mention Daft made that 1 year old drama trip to JohnBob, who for some reason had to be brought up together with his victims because Daft Pina wanted views. It was the most pointless video Ive seen. But now that he tried to dox someone for another dumb reason, Twitter is finally grabbing the pitchforks, so I think Daft wlll have a rough time moving forward as he has gained so much hate recently. I and my buddy are making a little something for Daft btw :P hope he likes it.
Puppychans Kiwifarms thread has been getting so big Im surrpised nobody is making videos on her, but I guess everyone is scared to call out a fake trans, black, non-binary, lesbian, fetish furry artist. I found it funny someone posted her tweets about how she was a victim of the evil alt right antoons lol And then a few weeks later she says how strong she was and that nothing can stop her, but then suicide baits her young fans the next day.
I myself am glad I dont have twitter anymore and I dont post on pretty much anything right now outside discord and here (only qna). I learned how much energy went to the drama and that while it was amusing af to troll these losers and play a part in the theatre with them I dont want to be in something like this again, at least for now. I was becoming more anxious and stressed, I thought some of the posts saying how someone wants to kill me were true. At first I was fine with the risk , but as I moved away from the drama the thoughts return as soon as I see some of the hater comments now and then.
Still, I want to complete that Drama part II video one day, to let everyone know the full story but I just feel weaker rn than I was, but thats from overwork, I havent had a day off for over a month. I work on weekends too.

Republicans for the Rule of Law is not the only group of conservatives mobilizing against the presidents efforts to politicize the DOJ. On Wednesday, the New York Times profiled a new group organized by George Conway husband of White House senior counselor Kellyanne Conway called Checks and Balances.
We believe in the rule of law, the power of truth, the independence of the criminal justice system, the imperative of individual rights and the necessity of civil discourse, the group said in a statement. We believe these principles apply regardless of the party or persons in power.
The Times reports that the group is meant to encourage debate about some of the Trump administrations policies and actions among legal organizations that usually support him, like the Federalist Society.
Despite his wifes central role in the administration, Conway has emerged as an outspoken critic of Trump especially on Twitter.
This is flabbergasting.
George Conway
Conway has also been critical of Trumps decision to appoint Whitaker. Asked about Conways criticisms during a question-and-answer session with reporters last week, Trump dismissed him as a selfish attention-seeker.
Hes just trying to get publicity for himself, Trump said.
In Relation To Economics
One important aspect of the rule-of-law initiatives is the study and analysis of the rule of law’s impact on economic development. The rule-of-law movement cannot be fully successful in transitional and developing countries without an answer to the question: does the rule of law matter to economic development or not?Constitutional economics is the study of the compatibility of economic and financial decisions within existing constitutional law frameworks, and such a framework includes government spending on the judiciary, which, in many transitional and developing countries, is completely controlled by the executive. It is useful to distinguish between the two methods of corruption of the judiciary: corruption by the executive branch, in contrast to corruption by private actors.
The standards of constitutional economics can be used during annual budget process, and if that budget planning is transparent then the rule of law may benefit. The availability of an effective court system, to be used by the civil society in situations of unfair government spending and executive impoundment of previously authorized appropriations, is a key element for the success of the rule-of-law endeavor.
Studies have shown that weak rule of law discourages investment. Economists have found, for example, that a rise in discretionary regulatory enforcement caused US firms to abandon international investments.
Theyve Been Jabbing At Mike Lee & Praising Maryland Governor Larry Hogan On Social Media
The women of Utah have questions for Senator Lee, including: Do you mean you already fully understood his utter disregard for the rule of law, and just dont care?
Republicans for the Rule of Law
Republicans for the Rule of Law recently reposted a letter to the editor that appeared in the Salt Lake Tribune, slamming Utah Senator Mike Lee. The letter, written by the Utah chapter of Mormon Women for Ethical Government, asked Lee why he continues to stand by the president. The letter reads:
When you state that nothing in this report changes your view of this president, do you mean that you already fully understood that President Trump was doing whatever he could to obstruct justice and was saved only because his staff refused to follow his orders? Do you mean that you support the president despite this unethical and self-serving behavior?
Republicans for the Rule of Law has also been showering praise on Maryland governor Larry Hogan. Hogan is the son of the late Maryland representative Lawrence Hogan, who was the only Republican representative to vote for all three articles of impeachment against Nixon. More recently, Larry Hogan made headlines when he called the Mueller Report disturbing and said it didnt exonerate the president.

The ad that Republicans for the Rule of Law ran on Fox & Friends highlights comments Whitaker made during TV appearances before his stratospheric rise to the top of the DOJ, such as the appointment of Bob Mueller I dont think was necessary or appropriate and what I see is a president that is starting to figure out that if I want to I can terminate you legally there is certainly a way for that to happen.
Perhaps the most prominent member of the group, Bill Kristol, shared video of the ad on Twitter.

Whitaker thus far has given no indications that he plans to recuse himself from overseeing Muellers investigation. Trump reportedly became a fan of his thanks to TV appearances where Whitaker suggested Muellers work could be brought to an end by slashing his budget, and characterized his appointment as ridiculous and a little fishy.

Republicans For The Rule Of Law Ad Targets Johnson Over Covid
Republicans for the Rule of Law have announced an ad campaign targeting GOP U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson for pushing ahead with efforts to fill a vacancy on the U.S. Supreme Court while opposing a new COVID-19 relief bill.
A group spokeswoman said it is spending more than $250,000 on TV in the Madison and Milwaukee markets on Fox News, MSNBC and CNN. The buy runs today through Sunday with a digital component as well.
The group describes itself as life-long Republicans dedicated to defending the institutions of our republic and upholding the rule of law. Its also targeting: U.S. Sens. Ted Cruz, R-Texas; Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa; Bob Portman, R-Ohio; and Marco Rubio, R-Fla.; as part of an overall $1 million ad campaign.
Johnson hasnt said if he plans to run for re-election in 2022 or if he will stick to his pledge to serve two terms in the Senate.
The narrator in the ad says Johnson blocked a confirmation vote in 2016 before playing a clip of him saying, Eight months before the election, why not let the American people decide the direction of the Supreme Court?
Now, the narrator adds, Johnson supports rushing through a new judge, but refuses to pass COVID relief.
Call Ron Johnson and tell him to pass COVID relief now and let the peoples voice be heard on the Supreme Court, the narrator says to close the ad. Sen. Ron Johnson is letting Wisconsin down.
The Rule Of Law In The United States
The Constitution serves as the foundation for the rule of law in American justice. It establishes a system of rights, freedoms, and checks and balances that ensure a fair and just society for all without government overreach and tyranny. This includes separation of power between three distinct branches of government .
Ultimately, no person, whether individual or policymaker, has the right to subvert the rule of law. Amendments are possible if and when societal shifts make them necessary, but the process is challenging for a reason. Not only does it prevent rulers from changing the law to suit their needs, but it also helps to maintain a more stable government and freedom for all Americans.

About Republicans For Voting Rights
Republicans for Voting Rights is an initiative of the Republican Accountability Project with the purpose of defending the accessibility, integrity, and competitiveness of American elections.
Voting is a sacred American right. But after the 2020 election, some Republicans began pushing for more restrictive voting laws designed to support unfounded accusations that the election was stolen and the results were illegitimate. Some even believe that voting is harmful to their electoral prospects. More still believe our electoral system is rife with fraud and security failures.
Republicans for Voting Rights rejects the false choice between voting access and election integrity. We believe that Republicans in federal, state, and local government should protect the right to vote, protect our election systems from partisan or foreign interference, and help build trust in our democracy.
What Happened To Bill Kristol And Republicans For The Rule Of Law
Did you ever imagine the President could act like this?
In 2013, American Conservative Union head David Keene took a direct shot at then Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol, while;addressing;a crowd at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference.
Some political operatives think we lost because of our ideas and valuesand what we really ought to do is change them, said Keene, attacking Republican strategists concerned over electoral defeat, including Kristol.
A lot has changed in seven yearsin terms of political players and issuesbut Keenes warning still holds true.
In an act of appeasement toward the political left, many self-professed limited government conservativesonce heralded as firebrands by their supportershave abandoned the conservative tradition.
Theres no doubt that the recent death of George Floyd raises questions about the state of the current justice system. Any conservative or libertarian-minded individual truly concerned about big government should fight to hold everyone accountable to the law.
But establishment GOP leaders and consultants have shifted their reform efforts. Instead of standing up for traditional conservative valuesgovernment accountability, the rule of lawtheyve pinned the blame on those stubborn conservatives.
Take for example, Max Boot, one of President Donald Trumps strongest critics.;According to;Boot, The president is pouring gasoline on the flames of racial division, and the Republican Party is holding the jerrycan for him.

About The Rule Of Law
Rule of law is an ancient philosophy first outlined by Aristotle in ancient Rome. It purports that all people and entities, including the government, must be bound to the same system of laws and regulations. This prevents rulers from abusing their powers or engaging in tyranny while also setting guidelines under which all people pursue happiness without harming others.
This does not necessarily mean that all governments who adopt the rule of law are forced to follow the same exact system. For example, both Canada and the US believe in the rule of law, but the justice system adopted by each contains very different laws. The term rule of law is more about the government and the people agreeing to the same system as a whole.
Republicans For The Rule Of Law Is Financed By A Democrat
Just hours after Jeff Sessions resigned as attorney general last Wednesday at the presidents behest, #TheResistance found its newest target for destruction: Sessions interim replacement, Matthew Whitaker….NeverTrump conservatives are aiding Schiff and the media in their campaign to paralyze if not remove Whitaker. Commercials attacking the acting attorney general were aired on several Sunday morning political shows. The ads were sponsored by Republicans for the Rule of Law, a group founded earlier this year by Bill Kristol, the editor-at-large of The Weekly Standard. The groups primary role so far appears to be pimping for the Mueller probe, a political witch-hunt that Kristol and his fellow NeverTrumpers pray will lead to the impeachment and removal of the president. The Left and their NeverTrump footsoldiers fear Whitaker will thwart the special counsels investigation instead of rubber stamping Muellers ever-expanding investigation as Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein has done over the past 18 months.

The Treaty on the Protection of Artistic and Scientific Institutions and Historic Monuments or Roerich Pact is an inter-American treaty. The most important idea of the Roerich Pact is the legal recognition that the defense of cultural objects is more important than the use or destruction of that culture for military purposes, and the protection of culture always has precedence over any military necessity. The Roerich Pact signed on April 15, 1935, by the representatives of 21 American states in the Oval Office of the White House . It was the first international treaty signed in the Oval Office. The Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict is the first international treaty that focuses on the protection of cultural property in armed conflict. It was signed at The Hague, Netherlands on 14 May 1954 and entered into force on 7 August 1956. As of June 2017, it has been ratified by 128 states.

Republicans, your silence is deafening. Stand up for the rule of law.
Republicans for the Rule of Law
A new ad from the Republicans for the Rule of Law has been going viral on social media; you can see it above. Many people are retweeting it and adding instructions to listen with your sound turned all the way up, because this video is supposed to be all about silence. The spot, shot in black and white, features close-ups of Republican Ben senators Sasse, Lindsey Graham, Ted Cruz, John Kennedy, Tim Scott. Theyre all looking straight ahead and saying nothing. You can hear a bit of static and the faint sound of a ticking clock.
A caption at the end reads, Republicans: Your silence is deafening. Our president attempted to obstruct justice. Stand up for the rule of law.
Some Trumpists Turn Against Cheneys Successor
Rep. Elise Stefanik of New York, who entered the House as a centrist in 2014 but has recast her as a Trumpist with support of Trumps disinformation, has been endorsed by House GOP leader McCarthy as Cheneys successor.
But some Trumpists are already jabbing at Stefanik as a moderate in disguise. Rep. Chip Roy of Texas sent a memo to every Republican representative that Stefanik had cast a series of votes opposed to Trumpism.
We must avoid putting in charge Republicans who campaign as Republicans but then vote for and advance the Democrats agenda once sworn in that is, that we do not make the same mistakes that we did in 2017.
With all due respect to my friend, Elise Stefanik, let us contemplate the message Republican leadership is about to send by rushing to coronate a spokesperson whose voting record embodies much of what led to the 2018 ass-kicking we received by Democrats.
Members of the hard-right Freedom Caucus have privately expressed reluctance, if not opposition, about Stefaniks ascendancy.
The New York representative has sought to appease critics by promising that she would resign as Conference chair before casting a vote that differs from the majority of House Republicans. She told reporters on Tuesday, We have a great deal of support from the Freedom Caucus and others.
Freedom Caucus co-founder Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio and Trump have backed Stefanik.

In 1959, an event took place in New Delhi and speaking as the International Commission of Jurists, made a declaration as to the fundamental principle of the rule of law. The event consisted of over 185 judges, lawyers, and law professors from 53 countries. This later became known as the . During the declaration they declared what the rule of law implied. They included certain rights and freedoms, an independent judiciary and social, economic and cultural conditions conducive to human dignity. The one aspect not included in The Declaration of Delhi, was for rule of law requiring legislative power to be subject to judicial review.
The Secretary-General of the United Nations defines the rule of law as:
a principle of governance in which all persons, institutions and entities, public and private, including the State itself, are accountable to laws that are publicly promulgated, equally enforced and independently adjudicated, and which are consistent with international human rights norms and standards. It requires, as well, measures to ensure adherence to the principles of supremacy of law, equality before the law, accountability to the law, fairness in the application of the law, separation of powers, participation in decision-making, legal certainty, avoidance of arbitrariness and procedural and legal transparency.

WASHINGTON At a time when health care reform and Russia investigations are sucking all the oxygen out of Congress, two senators a Republican and a Democrat filed into a small press gallery on Thursday to try and shine a spotlight on another pressing matter: war.
Sens. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) and Tim Kaine (D-Va.) introduced a new Authorization for the Use of Military Force against the Islamic State, al Qaeda and the Taliban. It would give Congress new oversight over military action against those groups and over the countries in which U.S. bombings can take place. It would also repeal old AUMFs still in effect. The senators paired up on a similar bill in 2015, and it went nowhere. Theres no clear indication that this latest incarnation will have success, either.
Yet, the two senators insisted that times are different.
Flake enthusiastically said the Senate Foreign Relations Committee could take up their bill soon after the Memorial Day break. Kaine said he expects, now that theyve filed a bill, that Trump administration officials may start working with them on the specifics of a new AUMF. A White House spokeswoman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Their problem isnt that they lack ambition, or are making a weak case. After all, many lawmakers dont like that the White House currently can use a sweeping 2001 AUMF to justify military action against al Qaeda or ISIS anywhere, anytime, without congressional oversight.
Their problem is, outside of a motley crew of rank-and-file lawmakers, nobody particularly cares.
Flake and Kaine unveiled their bill to a room of a dozen or so reporters, and as many empty seats. Their 2015 AUMF bill never got a Senate committee hearing, never mind a floor debate or vote. Similar AUMF proposals in the House havent gone anywhere, either. The two senators said they told their respective party leaders about their latest plan to push the AUMF issue again, and said neither had much of a reaction.
Hes not opposed to it or in favor it, Flake said of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).
He knows its an obsession of mine, Kaine said of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.). His attitude is well see what comes out of committee.
McConnell spokesman Don Stewart didnt say how McConnell feels generally about the need for an AUMF debate. But he noted the administration is in the middle of reviewing its strategy for fighting ISIS, and once thats done, President Donald Trump may need additional authorities to carry out his mission.
One could envision, in that scenario, that theyd ask for an AUMF that supported the strategy, said Stewart. But as that hasnt happened yet, I dont have any guidance on what the review will yield.
A Schumer aide did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Yuri Gripas / Reuters
Defense Secretary James Mattis has said he supports Congress passing a new war authorization for ISIS. But then again, so did President Barack Obama’s defense secretary, and it never happened.
The Constitution says that its the role of Congress to declare wars, and that the president has to get lawmakers approval for any sustained military action. But Congress ceded some of its power in 2001, when it hastily passed the broad AUMF allowing President George W. Bush to attack anyone connected to al Qaeda, anywhere, at any time. That AUMF never expired, and President Barack Obama stretched its limits to argue he could unilaterally take military action against the Islamic State, too, since the terror group is an offshoot of al Qaeda.
Today, that means Trump can use a 16-year-old war authorization to bomb people anywhere, at any time, without Congress signing off, so long as he can make the case that Islamic State or al Qaeda targets are there.
That makes some lawmakers uneasy. But for all their discomfort with how the 2001 AUMF is being used, most are simply afraid to take a war vote one that would shape the duration, scope or troop levels in forthcoming military actions that could come back to haunt them.
Kaine and Flake are holding out hope that responsibility will prevail over cowardice in Congress. They wont concede that this is a fruitless task.
Why do I have hope … began Kaine, relaying a story about his multiple failed attempts as a Richmond City Council member to move city elections from May to November.
It took me seven years, and now we have November elections, he said. I dont give up easy.
Flake rattled off his own reasons for optimism. More than half the members of Congress are new since their previous AUMF, he explained, which means fresh votes to recruit. Theres a new administration in the White House. And the new defense secretary has signaled support for a new AUMF. (Then again, so did the last one).
I believe they will want it because it strengthens their hand as they enter negotiations, or just diplomacy, Flake said of the Trump administration. We think that this bipartisan language does a good job.
But didnt his last AUMF bill have good language, too?
This is better, Flake said.

Chris Cuomo refutes Trump’s ’fake news’ attack
Tumblr media

CNN anchor Chris Cuomo pushed back on Thursday after President Trump deemed one of his interviews “fake news.” Cuomo defended his credibility on air and in an extended flurry of tweets throughout the morning.
Trump started off the morning spat by ripping Blumenthal on Twitter, suggesting he shouldn’t be believed because he misrepresented his military record in the past. Blumenthal told reporters that Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch called Trump’s attacks on federal judges “disheartening” and “demoralizing.”
Sen.Richard Blumenthal, who never fought in Vietnam when he said for years he had (major lie),now misrepresents what Judge Gorsuch told him?
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 9, 2017
Cuomo then interviewed Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn, about his meeting with Gorsuch, who faces a Senate confirmation.
The “New Day” host addressed Trump’s tweet, asking, “What is your response to the president of the United States saying you should not be believed because you misrepresented your military record in the past?”
The president, an avid watcher of cable news, then falsely tweeted Cuomo “never asked [Blumenthal] about his long-term lie.” During his 2010 Senate race, Blumenthal apologized after he got caught claiming in prior years that he had served in Vietnam
Chris Cuomo, in his interview with Sen. Blumenthal, never asked him about his long-term lie about his brave "service" in Vietnam. FAKE NEWS!
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 9, 2017
Shortly after the critical tweet was posted, Cuomo read it on air, following it with a replay of the beginning of his interview with Blumenthal. Cuomo noted that Trump’s criticism of Blumenthal was “literally the first point that I made in the interview.”
“The president, with all due respect, is once again off on the facts,” Cuomo said. “And that’s not something that any of us have any desire to say on a regular basis, but it keeps being true.”
“’Fake news’ is the worst thing that you can call a journalist,” Cuomo continued. “It’s like an ethnic disparagement. We all have these ugly words for people, that’s the one for journalists.”
In the segment, Cuomo also acknowledged Blumenthal dodged his question, but said the heart of the issue is whether Gorsuch did in fact call Trump’s criticism of federal judges “demoralizing” and “disheartening.” Former New Hampshire Sen. Kelly Ayotte, who is working on behalf of the Trump administration to guide Gorsuch through the confirmation process, confirmed the comments.
Later, Cuomo, known for engaging with viewers on Twitter, continued to bat back at Trump’s criticism of him, including asserting that the president uses “fake news” to brand negative stories, rather than untrue ones.
u take a snowball to the head? what did i say – one thing – that wasnt true? facts not feelings. #PressOn https://t.co/EziPc2HCXu
— Christopher C. Cuomo (@ChrisCuomo) February 9, 2017
thats the job. when potus made "what is true" the main measure of political assessment: that was like Christmas. @NewDay Every. Damn. Day https://t.co/Br0MDlVZlB
— Christopher C. Cuomo (@ChrisCuomo) February 9, 2017
sadly, potus is just wrong about the facts. it was my first point to the senator – about his having misrepresented military career. sigh https://t.co/zozIOHNvjb
— Christopher C. Cuomo (@ChrisCuomo) February 9, 2017
this is silly. appreciate POTUS watching @NewDay. untrue blumenthal not confronted with war record. "fake news " = i dont like this fact https://t.co/jgCCieWWmQ
— Christopher C. Cuomo (@ChrisCuomo) February 9, 2017
it was the first thing out of my mouth! u bought trump distraction. gorsuch comms guy confirmed words. only potus questioning. why? https://t.co/7ccNxOEshs
— Christopher C. Cuomo (@ChrisCuomo) February 9, 2017
Right at the start. Literally first thing. Not an issue. Neither is blumenthal credibility on this because Gorsuch confirmed comments https://t.co/G0gGpSsJHc
— Christopher C. Cuomo (@ChrisCuomo) February 9, 2017
Except i did. Killing YOUR credibility. no one but Prez questions the veracity. U say fake I say fact. https://t.co/6HidsmffC7
— Christopher C. Cuomo (@ChrisCuomo) February 9, 2017
@NewDay #factoverfiction. Get the hashtag going. Or #factsnotfeelings. Which is better? https://t.co/8F3oJssK9K
— Christopher C. Cuomo (@ChrisCuomo) February 9, 2017
Bigger point is no one saying Gorsuch didn't say it (except Prez) – including Gorsuch own comms guy. https://t.co/YobN4wuhUf
— Christopher C. Cuomo (@ChrisCuomo) February 9, 2017
I was accused of not bringing it up. False. I didnt chase. True. Why. It? because Gorsuch own comms guy confirmed it as true. Fact. https://t.co/cvOBucJgNb
— Christopher C. Cuomo (@ChrisCuomo) February 9, 2017
Thanks joe. Appreciated. This is all distraction. No one questions veracity on this. Irony: Gorsuch did trump a favor showing independence. https://t.co/gMfPI9oaBY
— Christopher C. Cuomo (@ChrisCuomo) February 9, 2017
No one ever happy because so much division and tension. I will get you the facts and you make the judgments. Deal? https://t.co/rA1D6LwWSj
— Christopher C. Cuomo (@ChrisCuomo) February 9, 2017
This is what I worried about with potus tweet. No need for more fighting. Facts are clear. This is all a negative distraction. https://t.co/WlrbNilldn
— Christopher C. Cuomo (@ChrisCuomo) February 9, 2017
I would IF there were a basis for questioning veracity. BUT GORSUCH CONFIRMED THAT HE SAID IT. GET IT NOW? #factsnotfeelings https://t.co/qWAW6DR5GD
— Christopher C. Cuomo (@ChrisCuomo) February 9, 2017
Hence the distraction by potus and it is working with his followers. https://t.co/04uLIUZWGD
— Christopher C. Cuomo (@ChrisCuomo) February 9, 2017
Yes https://t.co/4FMFkYJNVm
— Christopher C. Cuomo (@ChrisCuomo) February 9, 2017
Exactly. Trump wants blumenthal attacked to distract from what Gorsuch said and his own comms guy confirmed. https://t.co/vuw1Y1wpVw
— Christopher C. Cuomo (@ChrisCuomo) February 9, 2017
This is simply about respecting the truth. POTUS should come on @NewDay and let's put the facts out there for all to see. https://t.co/vDudtf2n6E
— Christopher C. Cuomo (@ChrisCuomo) February 9, 2017
It is attacking the core of your being. It is done to inflict pain; to injure. Absent a basis of falsity in fact – it is a slur https://t.co/ahDxL058w0
— Christopher C. Cuomo (@ChrisCuomo) February 9, 2017
We are only emboldened by the attacks. The job matters more than ever. The hope? administration makes life better for as many as possible https://t.co/Ar8DENJCTr
— Christopher C. Cuomo (@ChrisCuomo) February 9, 2017
His comms director confirmed it https://t.co/osUtDYpjWP
— Christopher C. Cuomo (@ChrisCuomo) February 9, 2017
Interestingly, despite drawing the ire of the president’s Twitter account, Cuomo disagreed with someone who suggested his account should be shut down, saying it provides a “clear window” into Trump’s thinking.
dont you want a clear window into workings of trump's mind? we have never gotten the good bad and ugly without a filter. https://t.co/8djdKkxoHQ
— Christopher C. Cuomo (@ChrisCuomo) February 9, 2017
Signing off at the end of his Twitter flurry, Cuomo said he ultimately valued the criticism from his viewers, “good bad and ugly.”
I am on here to engage – the good bad and ugly. But now time to play in snow. Kids are off. Hope everyone affected stays safe. https://t.co/JmtljmuWrT

Angry Constituents Hammer Tom Cotton At Town Hall: ‘Do Your Job’
Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Ark.) faced hundreds of angry constituents at a town hall Wednesday night who grilled him for two hours on the Affordable Care Act, immigration, President Donald Trumps administration and other issues.
The town hall, held at a high school in Springdale, Arkansas, was raucous throughout.About2,000 people packed the auditorium and frequently drowned Cotton out with cheers, boos and jeers. Some attendees waved red cards when the senator said something they didnt agree with.
The uproar hit a peak when a 25-year-old constituent pressed the senator on whether he intends to preserve the Affordable Care Acts treatment protections for people with preexisting conditions. (Congressional Republicans, including Cotton, have vowed to repeal Obamacare but have yet to lay out a comprehensive plan for replacing it.)She kicked off her remarks by asking who in the auditorium was affected by the Affordable Care Act:
She then explained she suffers from Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, a condition that affects the bodys connective tissues and blood vessels.
Without coverage for preexisting conditions, I will die, she said. Will you commit today to replacement protections for those Arkansans like me who will die or lose their quality of life or otherwise be unable to be participating citizens, trying to get their part of the American dream? Will you commit to replacement in the same way that youve committed to repeal?
The auditorium erupted in cheers as the crowd gave her a standing ovation. Cotton then attempted to dodge the question and asked for others in the audience to offer comments before he gave an answer.
That didnt go over well with the bulk of the crowd, which began booing and chanting, Do your job. Cotton eventually returned to her question but largely evaded her request for specifics on how he intends to preserve coverage for preexisting conditions.
Watch part of their exchange:
Another woman then confronted Cotton on his support for Obamacare repeal. She said her husband is dying, and she challenged Cotton to sit down with her and her family and hear about their experiences with public health care.
You want to stand there ... and expect us to be calm, cool and collected, she said. Well, what kind of insurance do you have?
Cotton faced many other questions on his support for Trump one attendee asked how he could support a president who wants to grab women by the pussy and his congressional record. He was pressed on his opposition to gun control measures, his proposed immigration policies and the presidents tax returns. Almost every answer was met with boos.
The last question went to a 7-year-old boy concerned about Trumps proposed wall along the U.S.-Mexico border and hisreported plan to cut funds for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
Donald Trump makes Mexicans not important to people who are in Arkansas who like Mexicans, like me, said the boy. Hes deleting all the parts in PBS Kids just to make a wall. Hes going to do that. He shouldnt. He shouldnt do all that stuff just for a wall.
Cotton attempted to answer by praising America as a melting pot, a comment met with jeers.
You should listen to the next generation, yelled one attendee.
We want Mexico to be a healthy, strong partner, Cotton said. We also have to protect our own citizens ... and thats where the wall comes in.
You can watch the full town hall meeting here.
Other Republicans have faced similarly tense crowds at town halls across the country during the congressional recess. On Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) was berated by a woman who was upset with Republican accountability on jobs and health care. Republican Sens. Joni Ernst and Chuck Grassley of Iowa and Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, and Reps. Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee and Dave Brat of Virginia have been confronted in recent days.
And some Republicans are avoiding the meetings altogether, turning to conference calls. Some are threatening to cancel public appearances if people disrupt them.
Trump, meanwhile, has attempted to dismiss the town hall demonstrations asplanned out by liberal activists.

Joe Biden Says He Didnt Mean To Offend By Invoking Segregationists
Former Vice President Joe Biden said he didn’t intend to offend anyone when he spoke about working with a pair of Southern segregationist senators decades ago, comments that sparked a backlash among some Democrats, including some of his rivals for the party’s presidential nomination.
“I do understand the consequence of the word ‘boy,’” Biden told MSNBC’s Al Sharpton on Saturday evening after speaking at the South Carolina Democratic Party’s convention. “But it wasn’t said in any of that context at all.”
At a fundraiser in New York on Tuesday, Biden recalled his relationships when he was a young lawmaker with Sens. James Eastland of Mississippi and Herman Talmadge of Georgia ― two “Dixiecrats” well known for their staunch support for their region’s Jim Crow laws. Biden, a senator from  Delaware at the time, told the crowd how Eastland used to call him “son” rather than “boy,” and labeled Talmage “one of the meanest guys I ever knew.”
“Well guess what? At least there was some civility,” Biden continued. “We got things done.”
Sens. Cory Booker of New Jersey and Bernie Sanders of Vermont, two of Biden’s rivals in the 2020 Democratic presidential race, called on Biden to apologize. Booker spoke out most forcefully about the matter, recalling in a CNN interview last week the “indignity” of “watch(ing) another man call my father ‘boy’” or being called that himself.
“I heard from many, many African-Americans who found the comments hurtful,” Booker added Sunday during an interview on ABC’s “This Week.”
Other Democrats rushed to Biden’s defense, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California and prominent black lawmakers such as House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn of South Carolina and Rep. John Lewis of Georgia, a longtime civil rights leader.
“I don’t think the remarks are offensive,” Lewis said last week. “During the height of the civil rights movement, we worked with people and got to know people that were members of the Klan — people who opposed us, even people who beat us and arrested us and jailed us.”
In his interview with Sharpton, Biden said Eastland used the word “boy” to derogatorily dismiss younger members of the chamber like himself and then-Sen. Ted Kennedy of Massachusetts.
“To the extent that anybody thought that I meant something different, that is not what I intended it,” Biden said.
The controversy over Biden’s comments didn’t seem to linger at the party gathering in Columbia, South Carolina, where 21 White House candidates collegially addressed activists in brief remarks.
Even Booker made nice when asked about Biden by reporters on Saturday, while standing by the criticism he directed at him.
“I have a lot of respect and gratitude for the vice president, and I want folks to know I have nothing to apologize for when it comes to speaking truth to power, ” Booker said. “I hope that our candor with each other will always help to make each other better servants to the people.”
This story has been updated with a comment from Booker.

How does car insurance work?
My boyfriend and i were talking after we saw an accident on the highway it was clearly the older mans fault. My boyfriend was saying how it sucked that even though he hit the lady she still had to pay her deductible (usually around $500) to get her car fixed. I was always under the impression that the reason we had insurance was to insure that we didnt get stuck paying for someone elses dumb *** mistake. anyone know how this actually works?

""Car insurance, from provisional to full uk?""
I have recently bought a car (a 2003 Ford Ka 1.3 Collection) & am on a provisional license taking driving lessons atm. Im looking at different car insurance quotes online & am thinking of going with Admiral as it seems like they offer the cheapest car insurance for my situation. As far as I'm aware, I would have to pay approx 1,100 to insurance my car while still on a provisional license, & approx 1,600 with a full uk. (A lot of ppl have said that insurance will be more expensive while on a provisional license but I know for a FACT that it's the other way around seeing as I would have a fully qualified driver with me at all times, meaning that I'm less likely to have an accident!!) Anyway, Because I'm looking at insuring my car for Nov while I still have a provisional license (I'm going to pay it monthly), when I hopefully pass my test at the start of Dec & obviously notify the insurers that I will have passed my test & therefore gotten a full uk license, HOW ON EARTH will that affect my insurance? Wnen I'll be back to US in couple of months I have to drive car back to CA, because I study there so my residence is CA. Can anyone tell me please how this situation can be resolved? - I don't wanna sell my car - registration with MD MVA is the last expensive and unwanted option.""

""Cheapest way to get Car Insurance for a 19 year old male, in Ontario?""
I am a 19 year old male university student in Ontario Canada. I live at home in the summer and only one hour from home during the school year for my studies. I would like to purchase my own car for everyday driving. However, I know that I would not be able to afford the ridiculous insurance there is for a male driver that is under 25 and listed as the primary driver. I have heard of ways to get around this, such as getting listed as a secondary driver and having my dad as the primary driver and just me as a temporary driver. Doing this is kind of lying, as I would be having the car all the time in the school year and then bring it home with me when I work at home. I don't think it would matter though, I doubt it is risky that if I did need a claim they would investigate how much I had the car... But what my dad seems to think is that he can only have a certain amount of cars listed as him as primary. My mom and dad live together and together own a 1994 Intrepid, 2003 Cadillac CTS and a 1988 Corvette (that is insured for only 5 months a year, stored in the winter). I am only insured as a temporary driver on the Intrepid as it is too expensive for anything else. I also have a 21 year old sister who is in the same situation (lives at home for 4 months a year) but she has just bought her own car and is her own primary driver. So I don't think that should affect me at all, it is cheap enough for a female to get primary insurance at this age. So now I want to buy a sports car. I am 100% sure I want to buy a car that is not common, its just something I am stubborn about and so I know that insurance will be more this way. Specifically I was looking at an Audi tt, BMW 300 series, Mitsubishi Eclipse or a Mustang... I also found a great deal on a '99 Porsche Boxster that a seller has that is way underpriced and I'd love to buy it (first choice). My question is, can I claim that my dad is really the owner of the Porsche (or other car) and say that I am a temporary driver, and then have me drive it all the time and take it back and forth to school, etc, knowing my parents together already have 2 vehicles and 1 summer vehicle. I would take myself off of the temporary insurance on the Intrepid. My dad seems to think that an insurance company will not allow them to be primary drivers on 3 vehicles and 1 summer vehicle while having dependant children... But what if I did the insurance quotes online and got approved? I already did get quotes before, and I don't think I ran into any problems. But I want to be covered and in case I did need to make a claim, this method won't come back to bite me in the butt. What is anyone's take on this? Like I said, I cannot afford to pay the insurance on the car as a primary driver at this point, but paying for the car itself won't be a problem. I do realise that I will be paying for this way than I do at the moment because of the car, but instead of $3000 more I was thinking $400 more or something. Thanks for reading all the facts, any answers will be greatly greatly appreciated! Thanks everyone!""

Can I borrow a car from someone if I don't have insurance coverage under their policy as a 19 year old?
This is more of a situational question than the main question suggests. So here goes: I live with my mom and am listed as an occasional driver on her car insurance policy. I am 19 years old and have a full G license. I go to my dads house on weekends and some days during the week. During these times, I sometimes use the car to run miscellaneous errands for him or myself. These errands are not at all part of a routine and are truly random events. My dad and his girlfriend have insurance coverage but I'm not listed under their insurance policy as an occasional driver simply because my driving of their car isn't routine and it's not worth the extra expense. So technically, this would be considered as me borrowing their car. Because I don't have my own personal insurance coverage (other than the occasional insurance with my mom), does that make it illegal to drive my dads car or is it perfectly legal for me to borrow his car at random times? This is causing a sort of feud that can occur between divorced parents while putting me in the middle so a solution to this problem, one way or the other, is much appreciated""

Rental car insurance?
I just rented a car from Budget and it being my first rental, I wasn't exactly sure of all the terms and conditions... unbeknownst to me I could have used my own full coverage insurance with me. I flew out of state and rented a car for the wedding and just assumed I would need to buy their insurance policy, no one ever told me different. I did take my policy with me, but was never asked for that information. Then I get the bill back and they charged me 32.50 a day! Has anyone ever had this happen and how lenient are they if you've already returned the rental? Anything I can do? Insurance will not pay for storage?

The other party's insurance says they will only pay for storage up to the 23rd because paying more is not a reasonable amount. Can they really do this? If I do pay the storage that they will not cover, it will still cost me over $500! I mean they accepted fault, and it is their client's fault that I have been without a car for so long. It is their fault that my car had to be towed and put in storage. They are the professionals. They should be able to negotiate with the company, and not put the responsibility on me. Martin Luther King Jr. Would Have Stood With Trump: He Didn’t Want Migrants From The Third World Here Either
This weekend, the media was imploding over the unconfirmed “s**thole countries” comment that President Trump was accused of making by two far left Democrats who took part in an immigration meeting with the President. Sen. Dick Durbin claimed that the President used ‘hate-filled, vile and racist’ language in immigration meeting. Now, to clarify, even if the dubious and leaked comments were said by the President, there is nothing “racist” about them; to claim that they are racist is to confuse ethnicity with citizenship.
Despite this – one of the media’s main talking points, and a talking point by crazed and corrupt leftist politicians such [READ MORE HERE]

There Were 26 Additional Seats Up For Election But None Of These Seats Changed Parties Louisiana Could Still Switch But We Wont Know Until December And It Wont Make A Difference To Democrats
Republicans keep control of the House and Senate
The rest of the Senate races didnt switch parties this year. This includes 16 seats held by Republicans and nine held by Democrats. We still dont know the outcome of the Senate race in Louisiana as it has moved to a run-off that will be decided in December.
The open seat of Sen. David Vitter could now end up Democrat, but it still wont matter for Democrats when it comes to control of the Senate. The two candidates on the Louisiana ballot to fill Vitters open seat are Louisiana state Treasurer John Kennedy and Foster Campbell .
But this wasnt always the case: Up until a few weeks ago, Senate seats in Florida, Arizona, and Ohio were seen as pretty competitive races. The races only began to open up in recent days.
In Florida, Sen. Marco Rubio had a 3.7-point lead over challenger Patrick Murphy heading into Election Day. And in the other two states, incumbent Republicans John McCain and Rob Portman both enjoyed double-digit leads over their opponents, securing easy Republican victories.

This Is The Future That Liberals Want
Say the Democrats win. Then what?
If Democrats manage to hold the House of Representatives and win back the Senate and the White House in November, the party will have full control of the federal government for the first time in 11 years. Police reform, climate change, and health care are all on their agenda. But before newly empowered Democrats get to any of that, they will very likely pass a relief package to address the coronavirus pandemic and the associated economic crisis. Then, they will aim to fundamentally change how voting and government work in the United States by expanding voting rights, reducing the influence of money in politics, strengthening ethics rules, and maybe even ending the Senate filibusterreforms they hope will make Americas democracy work better and the rest of their agenda easier to carry out.
If there is any political capital to be spent, the concerns over democracy reform take a front seat to everything in the agenda, a senior aide to a progressive senator told me . It would mean so much just in terms of building long-term power, a senior aide to a progressive House Democrat added.
What Is The Difference Between Republicans And Democrats
Republicans and Democrats are the two main and historically the largest political parties in the US and, after every election, hold the majority seats in the House of Representatives and the Senate as well as the highest number of Governors. Though both the parties mean well for the US citizens, they have distinct differences that manifest in their comments, decisions, and history. These differences are mainly ideological, political, social, and economic paths to making the US successful and the world a better place for all. Differences between the two parties that are covered in this article rely on the majority position though individual politicians may have varied preferences.

Biden Introduces Attorney General Nominee In Wake Of Capitol Riot
While introducing his nominee for attorney general, Merrick Garland, President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr. said the nation needed to restore the independence and integrity of the Justice Department.
What we witnessed yesterday was not dissent, it was not disorder, it was not protest it was chaos. They werent protesters dont dare call them protesters they were a riotous mob, insurrectionists, domestic terrorists. Its that basic, its that simple. I wish we could say we couldnt see it coming. But that isnt true. We could see it coming. The past four years, weve had a president who has made his contempt for our democracy, our Constitution, the rule of law clear in everything he has done. We need to restore the honor, the integrity, the independence of the Department of Justice in this nation thats been so badly damaged. And so many former leaders of that department in both parties have so testified and stated that. I want to be clear to those who lead this department, who you will serve. You wont work for me. You are not the president or the vice presidents lawyer. Your loyalty is not to me. It is to the law, the Constitution, the people of this nation, to guarantee justice. As everyone who watched yesterdays events in Washington now understands, if they did not understand before, the rule of law is not just some lawyers turn of phrase. It is the very foundation of our democracy.

Visual Guide: The Balance Of Power Between Congress And The Presidency
Which party controls Congress? Which, the White House? The answer reveals the balance of power in the two branches of government that have elected officials .
Americans seem to prefer that the checks-and-balances envisioned by the founders be facilitated by having different parties control Congress and the White House.
Contrary to popular belief, most of the time Congress and the President are at odds; that is, most of the time the same political party does not control the White House, the Senate, and the House of Representatives.
Congress has usually been controlled by the same party; with the odd man out being,;literally, the President. Only 16 times since 1945 have both branches of Congress and the Presidency been controlled by the same party; the Democrats have held this advantage more often than Republicans . However, it has happened four times since 2003, making this seem more common that it has been, historically . Prior to WWII, having House, Senate and White House controlled by the same party was the norm.
Since 1945, the House and Senate have been controlled by different parties only six;times . The first three were under Reagan . The other three have been since the 2000 elections, which makes this seem more normal to us than it is, historically.;From 1901-1945, this happened only twice.
And there have been only two complete turn-overs of Congress since 1949: one in 1995 and the other in 2007.
How Is Senate Majority Chosen
The Senate Republican and Democratic floor leaders are elected by the members of their party in the Senate at the beginning of each Congress. Depending on which party is in power, one serves as majority leader and the other as minority leader. The leaders serve as spokespersons for their partys positions on issues.

Iowa Montana And South Carolina
Though Iowa, Montana and South Carolina are all traditionally right-leaning, polls had shown tight Senate races in those states, and the Cook Political Report had rated each a tossup. But come Election Day, Republicans easily won each race.
In Iowa, Senator Joni Ernst, the Republican incumbent, dispatched Theresa Greenfield, her Democratic challenger, by 6.6 percentage points. In Montana, Senator Steve Daines, the Republican incumbent, won by more than 10 percentage points against Steve Bullock, Montanas two-term Democratic governor.
And in South Carolina, Senator Lindsey Graham, a Republican and the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, survived a challenge by Jaime Harrison, a former chairman of the states Democratic Party, winning by 10.3 percentage points.

Two state legislatures saw changes in their veto-proof majority statusâtypically when one party controls either three-fifths or two-thirds of both chambersâas a result of the 2020 elections. Democrats gained veto-proof majorities in Delaware and New York, bringing the number of state legislatures with a veto-proof majority in both chambers to 24: 16 held by Republicans and eight held by Democrats.
Forty-four states held regularly-scheduled state legislative elections on November 3. Heading into the election, there were 22 state legislatures where one party had a veto-proof majority in both chambers; 16 held by Republicans and six held by Democrats. Twenty of those states held legislative elections in 2020.
The veto override power can play a role in conflicts between state legislatures and governors. Conflict can occur when legislatures vote to override gubernatorial vetoes or in court cases related to vetoes and the override power.
Although it has the potential to create conflict, the veto override power is rarely used. According to political scientists Peverill Squire and Gary Moncrief in 2010, only about five percent of vetoes are overridden.

New Hampshire, where Sen. Kelly Ayotte has a narrow margin over Gov. Maggie Hassan . Votes have only been counted from 94 percent of precincts, so there is a possibility that Hassan could still win, but with Ayotte wining 48.1 percent of the vote compared to Hassans 47.8 percent, it seems as if Ayotte will hold onto her seat.
Annual Congressional Competitiveness Report 2020
Ballotpedias Annual Congressional Competitiveness report for 2020 includes information on the number of elections featuring candidates from both major parties, the number of open seats, and more.
HIGHLIGHTS
More U.S. House races were contested by members of both major parties than in any general election since at least 1920, with 95.4% of races featuring major party competition.
Of the U.S. Representatives and U.S. Senators who were eligible to run for re-election in 2018, 55 of them did not appear on the general election ballot in 2020.
In the 53 open seats where an incumbent either did not seek re-election or was defeated in a primary, there were 13 races where the incumbents district overlapped at least one pivot county in 2008 and 2012, before switching to support President Donald Trump in 2016).
In 20 races, only one major party candidate appeared on the general election ballot, the lowest number compared to the preceding decade.

Y Control In Congress And State Legislatures
In the politics of education course I teach this semester, I was looking for a nice overview of trends in party control for Congress and state legislatures. Just a simple chart showing trends in which party holds the majority in the House and Senate and whether similar trends occur in state legislatures. We often just focus on one or the other, but I want to see Congress and states on the same graph.
But I couldnt quite find what I was looking for. So in its absence , I compiled data from the Senate and House history pages along with the National Conference of State Legislatures partisan composition page.
A few notes about whats being measured here. For the states, NCSL tells us whether both chambers are controlled by a given party. If Democrats hold both chambers, then the state is coded as Democrat. States are coded as Split if Democrats carry one chamber and Republicans the other. Nebraska is omitted because it has a non-partisan unicameral legislature, but I put them in the Split plus NE category just so we have all 50 states. And all data are as of January of the given year, except 2016, which uses December to reflect the outcomes of the most recent election:
Shifting gears to Congress, the chart shows the percentage of members from each of the two parties:
But these three charts are hard to put the full picture together, so the following combines them into a single visualization that I think tells the story a little clearer:

What The Midterms Mean For President Obama And 2016
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Only one in three voters in exit polls said the country was on the right track, and one in five said the government in Washington could never be trusted to do whats right. Two-thirds said the economic system is unfair.
The Republican swing fit a historical pattern: The last three two-term presidents Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush all served their last two years with the opposing party controlling both houses of Congress.
And the party controlling the White House has lost seats in the House in the midterm election every time but twice since World War II.
In the Senate, Democrat Mark Pryor of Arkansas was ousted by Rep. Tom Cotton, and Mark Udall of Colorado was bounced by Rep. Cory Gardner. Democratic Sen. Kay Hagan lost her seat to Thom Tillis.
Democrat Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire held off a furious challenge by ex-Sen. Scott Brown.
Republicans Joni Ernst in Iowa, Steve Daines in Montana, Mike Rounds in South Dakota and Shelley Moore Capito in West Virginia all captured seats held by retiring Democrats.

Since last week, many Republicans have been feeling singularly nostalgic for November 1928, and with good reason. Itâs the last time that the party won such commanding majorities in the House of Representatives while also dominating the Senate. And, letâs face it, 1928 was a good time.
America was richâor so it seemed. Charles Lindbergh was on the cover of Time. Amelia Earhart became the first woman to fly across the Atlantic. Jean Lussier went over Niagara Falls in a rubber ball . Mickey Mouse made his first appearance in a talkie . Irving Aaronson and His Commanders raised eyebrows with the popularâand, for its time, scandalousâsong, âLetâs Misbehave,â and presidential nominee Herbert Hoover gave his Democratic opponent, Al Smith, a shellacking worthy of the history books.
The key takeaway: Itâs been a really, really long time since Republicans have owned Capitol Hill as they do now.
But what if the Republicans of 1928 owed their demise to a more fundamental force? What if it was demography, not economics, that truly killed the elephant?
On a surface level, the Great Depression was to blame.

A Quick Guide To The Eight Competitive Senate Races We Watched Most Closely
There were 34 Senate races this year, but only eight had a reasonable chance of a seat switching from one party to another. There were four races where Democrats led in the polls and four where Republicans were ahead. Most of them were very close, with the exception of the Illinois race between incumbent Sen. Mark Kirk and challenger Rep. Tammy Duckworth , where Duckworth handily beat Kirk.

Control Of The Senate Could Be Decided By Georgia Races
;There are two races up in Georgia this election, a regular Senate race and special election. The rules in Georgia for both the regular Senate election and the Senate special election require a candidate to win a majority, and if none of the candidates clear the 50% threshold, the race goes to a runoff in January.;
Recent polling in the race between incumbent GOP Senator David Perdue and Democrat Jon Ossoff has been tight, and the presence of a libertarian candidate on the ballot could prevent either Perdue or Ossoff from clearing the majority. In the special election, 21 candidates have qualified to be on the ballot, including Democrat Raphael Warnock, who has led in recent polls. GOP candidates Senator Kelly Loeffer, who was appointed to the seat last year, and Congressman Doug Collins are also on the ballot. If no candidate clears the majority, that race will also go to a runoff in January.
