thereâs been no way for me to say (that i felt a certain way)
Synopsis: natasha romanoff has loved you for ages and she could never seem to get it right.
pairings: natasha romanoff x reader
genre: college AU, fluff and angst.
warnings: angst?
please do not repost my work anywhere for any reason at all. if you do see this happen to any of my stories, please let me know. thank you x.
natasha met you in a very peculiar way.
it started at a friends of a friends party, in some internet starletâs brooklyn loft.
drinks were going around, the music was loud, the smell of marijuana was very strong. she doesnât quite remember itâ after having been to a bunch of parties they all seem to blur into oneâ but she knows it was enough to leave a lasting impression on her.
sheâd heard your piercing laugh from across the room. you, in a tight tank top and some black slacks. she could see the shine of sweat against your skin, the colorful lighting of the room making you seem so beautifully human.
everything sort of froze in the coming moments. she watched as you took your top off without a second thought. you were about to shotgun a beer and you stood tall as you did it atop the kitchen island. you didnât need the attention, nor did you want it, but you had it.
it was a simple behavior. but it stayed with natasha long after you had crushed the beer can and tossed it on the floor somewhere.
natasha thinks you never notice her staring for the rest of the night but you do.
weeks later she sees you again at another party.
clint, wanda, tony and everyone else joins her this time. she isnât surprised when she sees you. it was the same crowd, similar friend groups. but this time you made it easy for her to approach you.
somehow you end standing next to eachother near where all the drinks had been laid out.
"hey," you said, voice casual but warm. "didnât expect to see you here again."
natasha smiled, though she hadnât expected to talk to you at all. nor did she think you noticed her. "i guess we have similar taste in parties."
you laughed lightly. âguess so."
there was a beat of silence before you added, âyou know, you were kinda staring at me last time.â
natasha froze for a second, unsure how to respond. she hadnât thought youâd noticed. but before she could stammer out an excuse, you were already grinning.
âiâm just messing with you. it was funny. i didnât think anyone would care enough to notice me.â
natasha was relieved, yet still unsure if you were actually joking. either way she felt this was going better than she planned.
the night wore on and you guys carried easy conversation. natasha was still unsure how to even approach talking to you. she felt kind of shy. so she improvised by making references to things she didnât think youâd get, but you almost always did.
you dropped a reference to something obscure, a movie natasha had once obsessed over, and natasha stared at you for a moment longer than was socially acceptable. she couldnât stop herself.
âyouâre really into that, huh?â she said, and just like that, the bond started to form. it wasnât immediate or instant, not the kind of connection that screams âbest friends forever.â no, it was something stranger, something subtler, like two different puzzle pieces that had almost fit, only to get pushed back together by sheer happenstance.
âyour references are spot on.â you laughed. natasha smiled at how easy you made it for her to be around you.
you and natasha started seeing each other more, slowly building this weird, unspoken routine. sheâd text you at random, making some kind of sarcastic comment or joke only you would get, and youâd shoot back a meme that only someone with your specific sense of humor would understand. over time, you both ended up in the same circles, passing each other in the hallways of the university, at class, at partiesâalways just a little bit more than acquaintances, but never quite crossing into the territory of âbest friends.â
there was something comfortable about it. easy, even. but for natasha, it was also strange. the more she saw you, the more she felt like there was something else there, something neither of you wanted to acknowledge. maybe it was a crush. maybe it was more than that.
it wasnât as though either of you had been completely oblivious to the passing of time, to the fact that you were both growing older, moving through college with the same bittersweetness that everyone else felt. and yet, there was still this distance between you, an unspoken barrier that neither of you had broken down.
natasha thought about you a lot more than sheâd like to admit. how she so badly wanted to cross the line between friendship and something more.
by senior year, natasha couldnât ignore it anymore. her feelings for you werenât just fleeting glances or passing thoughts. they were there, constant, sitting beneath her skin, running through her mind like a song she couldnât shake. but it wasnât just a crush. it was more. she could feel it. she knew it.
the desperation kept getting worse.
it was a slow burn.
you were months set from graduating, natasha felt it was time sheâd try to test her luck.
it was late into the evening at yet another partyâmusic blaring, laughter echoing through the crowded living room, and cups of cheap beer littering the tables. one last semester before graduation, before the "real world" set in. natasha was sitting on the couch, leaning against the back with her legs stretched out in front of her. her eyes roamed the room, scanning for someone to talk to. and then she saw you.
you were in the middle of a conversation with clint and wanda, your hands animatedly gesturing as you told some wild story about a disastrous trip to the beach, the kind of tale that had everyone in stitches. natasha couldnât help but smile from across the room. there was something magnetic about youâhow you lived so fully, how you pulled everyone into your orbit without even trying. natasha had been watching you for months now, always on the edge of your space, always wishing she could be more than just a silent observer.
she didnât know when it startedâwhen the simple admiration had turned into something else. but now, as she watched you laugh with your friends, something in her chest tightened. this wasnât a crush she could just ignore.
it wasnât the first time natasha had thought about asking you out. but tonight felt different. maybe it was the proximity of graduation, the sudden realization that this was itâthat you both were on the brink of leaving behind this chaotic, unmoored time in your lives. she could either stay on the sidelines or take the chance.
she stood up, smoothing out her jacket and walking across the room. her friendsâclint, wanda, and samïżœïżœnoticed her approaching and exchanged knowing glances, all but daring her to make a move. natasha could feel the weight of their stares, but she ignored them. she focused only on you.
"hey," she said, stepping into the conversation, a little breathless from the nerves sheâd kept hidden.
you turned, giving her that warm smile you always did. "hey, nat! whatâs up?"
"not much, just wanted to, uh, ask you something," natasha began, her usual confidence faltering just a little.
âi was thinking about heading to this bar later, just to get away from all⊠this,â she gestured vaguely to the party around them, âand i was wondering if you wanted to join me? for drinks. just us. you know, before we all get caught up in the whole graduation mess.â
it was casual, maybe too casual. but natasha didnât want to make it seem like a big deal. not with everyone watching.
there was a pause, just a beat too long, before you looked at her, a faint frown pulling at your brow. you were processing. âuh,â you hesitated, glancing at your friends.
clint, wanda, and sam all turned their heads at the same time, giving you the slightest raise of their brows. you bit your lip, clearly unsure, and natashaâs heart sank a little at the hesitation.
"i mean," you said slowly, looking back at natasha. "weâre friends, nat. i just⊠iâm not sure."
it was a gentle rejection, but it stung all the same. natasha swallowed, masking her disappointment with a shrug. "no, yeah, of course. no pressure." she let out a quiet laugh, her hand rubbing the back of her neck, trying to laugh it off. "i was just messing with you. don't worry about it."
you nodded, a small, apologetic smile on your lips. "i mean, iâd love to hang out more, justâ"
"totally fine," natasha interrupted, her voice light but edged with something that made her own heart ache. she smiled, keeping it neutral. "maybe some other time."
she turned away quickly, but she felt your eyes on her as she walked back to the couch, her friends watching the entire scene unfold. clint raised his brows, and natasha just shook her head, not wanting to give them the satisfaction of knowing how deeply that small exchange had affected her.
but inside, it stung. it stung more than she cared to admit. it wasnât just a small rejection. it was the fear that maybe you had noticed her feelings all along and were just too scared to say anything about it.
that night, natasha tried to sleep, but her thoughts wouldnât stop racing. you were everything she had wanted, but in this strange, liminal space, neither of you had been brave enough to admit it.
weeks passed, the semester came to an end, and graduation day loomed on the horizon. natasha and you both moved on in your own ways, starting to make plans for life after college. but something lingered. something unsaid. life became a little more faster, and faces got a little older.
you reached out to her a few times. it was never the same as before. it was different now, with this strange tension lingering between you both. but you kept in touch, as if you both were afraid of letting go of something that might have been, something that might have still been.
and maybe it was ridiculous, natasha thought, but she was okay with it. she had loved you for years, and maybe that was the most honest thing she could admit to herself.
because even if you two had never been the closest of people, youâd always been there. always in the background, always in between. and somehow, that was enough for natasha. enough for her to hold on to the hope that maybe, one day, youâd both be able to finally figure it out.
it had been two years since you both left the university. two years where natasha had started a career in marketing, constantly moving up, climbing the corporate ladder while trying (and failing) to suppress the things she didnât want to feel about you. she had dated, of course. a couple of short-term relationships, nothing serious. but nothing had ever lasted, and she had never quite understood why until now. the answer had always been there, hovering just out of reach, in the form of a text, a call, a passing thought about you.
as for you, youâd moved across the country for a job in graphic design. you didnât think much about natasha at first. life had been busyânew city, new friends, new routineâbut every now and then, you'd wonder if she'd thought of you. if she remembered how everything had felt when you were both on the brink of something, but never quite dared to cross the line.
and then it happened.
it wasnât planned. it wasnât expected. but one saturday evening, natasha found herself sitting at a bar in brooklyn after a long week at work. sheâd had a rough day. one of those days where everything felt like too much. and then, as she nursed her gin and tonic, she heard someone call her name.
it was a voice she hadnât heard in what felt like forever.
ânatasha?â
she turned, already recognizing the voice before she even saw your face. and there you were, standing in the doorway of the bar like a memory coming to life. your hair had grown a little longer, and you looked different, older in a way that made Natashaâs heart skip a beat. but you were still youâthe same you who had been in those parties, those late-night study sessions, the one who had always made her laugh with a look or a passing reference.
for a moment, neither of you said anything. just stood there, eyes locking, as if trying to figure out whether this was real.
âi didnât know you were in new york,â natasha said, her voice betraying the sudden weight in her chest. she couldnât keep the smile from forming, even though she tried.
âi wasnât planning on being,â you said, grinning. âwork sent me here for a few weeks. i was meeting some friends, but itâs been a while, so i thought iâd just see if you were around.â
it wasnât exactly casual. but you both knew it wasnât entirely random, either. it felt like fate had decided that you two were finally going to do this.
you sat down, and the conversation flowed as naturally as it always had. the awkwardness of the past melted away. you didnât need to pretend anymore. there were no more games, no more hesitations.
just you and natasha, picking up where you left off, though this time, the space between you felt a little different. there was an understanding now, a quiet knowing in the way you both spoke, a recognition that time had done its job.
âsoâŠhowâs life?â natasha asked, pushing her drink aside and leaning in a little closer.
you shrugged, but there was something different about you too, something less guarded. âitâs been alright. busy. but you know how that goes. iâve been thinking about home, though. aboutââ you paused, then looked directly at natasha. âabout people i should have kept in touch with.â
natashaâs heart was thudding in her chest, but she kept it together. she was a master of hiding emotions, after all. âyeah?â she asked, her voice softer now.
âyeah,â you said, with a smile that made natashaâs stomach flutter. âitâs funny how things work out. you donât realize what you miss until youâre standing in front of it again.â
time had always been a strange thing between natasha and youâsomething both distant and close at the same time, like a thread that wound its way through your lives, never quite snapping, always lingering. youâd known each other for years, seen each other at parties, shared quiet moments, and laughed at the same jokes. but all that time, there had always been a hesitation. a space between the two of you, filled with somethingâsomething both of you had been aware of but had never dared to name.
it was the kind of thing that was easier to ignore in college, easier to pretend it wasnât there while you were both busy with classes, with your lives, with the thrill of being young and not yet knowing what you wanted out of the world.
but that something between you had always been there, pulling at both of you, quiet but undeniable. the way you caught each otherâs eyes a little too long. the way your conversations turned into something more meaningful without either of you intending it. the way natasha would see you at parties and catch her breath for just a moment. the way youâd smile, as if you both knew, but neither of you was brave enough to act on it.
youâd both dated people. tried relationships. but it had never lasted, had it? there was always that nagging feeling in the back of your mindâsomething missing, something not quite right. as if your lives couldnât fit together because they werenât ready to yet. you didnât have the words for it, and neither did natasha. but you both knew. you always knew.
the things that had once seemed complicatedâlife, timing, fearâsuddenly didnât feel as big as they once had. there was a quiet honesty between you now, as if you both had grown enough to stop pretending you didnât feel it. the awkwardness, the hesitation, the âmaybeâ that had been there before was gone.
it was you. it had always been you. and you knew it too.
âso,â natasha said after a beat, her voice softer now, quieter than before. âwhat are we doing here, really? weâre not strangers. weâve known each other for, what, almost four years now?â
you looked at her, your lips curling into a smile that didnât hide the tension in your gaze. âweâve known each other longer than that,â you said. âweâve always known.â
âi think iâve always been afraid of this,â natasha admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. âafraid that iâd say the wrong thing, or that it would mess things up between us. that maybe the timing was never going to be right.â
you nodded slowly. âiâve been afraid of that too.â you paused, then added with a wry smile, âi was never good with timing.â
âmaybe we donât need perfect timing,â natasha said softly, her gaze meeting yours with something she hadnât let herself feel beforeâa quiet certainty. âmaybe itâs just the right time now. after all this time.â
you didnât answer right away. you didnât have to. instead, you reached across the bar, your hand brushing gently against hers, and just like that, it all clicked. there was no more hesitation. no more waiting. you both knew what this was, what it always had been.
âyeah,â you said, your voice low and certain. âi think youâre right.â
and that was it.

âââââââââââââââââââââââââ
When Leo invited you down to the lair to hang out, you had thought maybe it would be a movie thing. Or perhaps even going to the ramp room, chatting while he practiced skateboarding tricks that almost always ended badly with bruises. You wouldnât have been surprised if he had dragged you into the kitchen to whip up something to eat or just snack on whatever the two of you could find.
But no, instead, he led you to his room, with a skip in his step. When you questioned why it had to be just the two of you. Why all of his brothers were rolling their eyes in Leoâs direction. He just shook his head, âI canât tell anyone else! Youâre the only one I can trust!â It was then, that you had a sinking feeling.
This scenario had happened before. Many times actually. You glanced back at the bros, exasperated already and you hadnât even heard anything yet. But you knew.
Once in his room, Leo let go of you, and jumped face first into his bed. He let out a dramatic screech, kicking to boot before he turned to the ceiling and announced, âIâve got a crush,â
You held back a sigh as you walked over to the only chair in his room. Pulled it out from under the desk, and sat, getting ready for the long haul. âWho and how?â
He really hadnât even needed the question. He was off to the races explaining exactly how he had met ~them~ and all the moments after, from whence his heart first skipped a beat, the beauty that they hold, how they laugh at all his jokes. Your eyes clouded over.
This was pure torture. As your eyes unfocused, you let your train of thought wander away from Leoâs babbling fancies. Truly youâd lost count of how many times this had happened before. It was always the same things that made his heart flutter. That made him go crazy, so much so, that heâd tire out his brothers from all the lovesick shenanigans and bring you into the mix.
Which was like listening to chalk squeak against a chalkboard. Shrill and grating. If you didnât tune it out, youâd go crazy yourself. Because it was despicable to listen to your own crush, talk about how much they wanted someone else.
For a second, you could just blink, look over at him, and pretend he wasnât saying anything of consequence. âBlah blah blah,â his mouth moved, but you werenât listening. That was better. It was unfair how pretty he could be. Especially when he was happy, especially when he was falling hard. The way he smiled, how his eyes shined. His hands couldnât stop moving, he just had to animate with his whole body about how he felt. Your knee started to bounce. He was being cruel and he didnât even realize it.
It wasnât fair. But then again, how would he ever know unless you told him? You imagined what it would be like. To interrupt him. To confess your love. Heâd probably laugh in your face. Ha what a great joke Y/n, now get real and back to my love crisis. Thatâs what heâd say. Or something along the lines of it.
But sometimes you could imagine him pausing completely. Getting taken so off guard that he no longer had the words to respond. That maybe heâd look at you with a different light. So maybe that was why you did it. On the off chance that, maybe, Leo had always harbored something for you too. Just deep down! So deep that he felt the need to hide it with all of these other so called crushes.
âLeo!â
He blinked and sat up from where he had been laying, interrupting his tangent.
âWhat?!â
Straightforward. That would be the best route.
âI like you.â Your eyes were steady, yet your heart raced. It was thundering in your chest as you watched one of his brow bones raise.
âI like you too Y/nâ he said so as if it was obvious. Which meant he was misunderstanding.
âNo no, not like that. I like you.â You strained with the emphasis as you willed his thick skull to understand. And it mustâve gotten through because his eyes widened just a bit.
âYou like me?â He questioned, sitting up even straighter than before. Now you had his attention. And you could feel sweat building up in your palms as you nodded seriously.
âBut, weâre best friends..â and you couldâve let that shoot you down. But you continued on. Getting up from your spot, from the single chair, and making your way over to him. Despite how every step made you second guess yourself. Despite thinking maybe it was a better idea to just run out of his room. Or to just settle for the friendship you thought you had wanted.
But you pushed through it all as you sat down next to him. âWe are. Youâre my best friend Leo. And I, maybe Iâm greedy, but I canât help it. Iâve liked you for so long now. And I donât think I can just sit idly by anymore.â
You took a breath, palms closing into fists. Eyes closing because if he was going to reject you, itâd be better to not see the pity on his face. You piped up once more before he could say anything, âEvery time you talk about your crushes, I canât help but think, but wish, that it were me! And every time you get over one, I get ahead of myself, I hope that maybe, one day, youâll look at me differently!â
There was so much you could say. So many different ways to say it. But that was the gist. âThat⊠youâll like me like that. That youâll return the feelings Iâve felt for you,â you blew out a breath. Then looked into his eyes.
Leo was rarely ever serious but he was now. âI never knewâŠâ he said softly after a moment of silence. Of taking in all that you had revealed. You nodded not knowing what that meant for your relationship with him now. And the fear of losing him forever leaked onto your face. His eyes softened, a green hand going out to cup your cheek.
âI wish Iâd known sooner,â and with that he brushed a finger against your skin. He looked down at your lips as they parted with a shocked breath. He smirked, as only Leo could, and leaned down with a silent question that had you tilting your head to give him better access to your lips.
âY/n are you even listening to me?â
You blinked.
âHuh?â
You were in the single chair.
âHello! Earth to Y/n, this is like the biggest moment of my life, Iâm telling you I think they may be the one!! Come on focus!!â
Right. You straightened up, crossing a leg over the knee that wouldnât stop bouncing.
âSorry, go on,â
And he blinded you with that smile as he retold all of the sickening things that made him so endeared to his crush. If only it wasnât so endearing to you.
âââââââââââââââââââââââââ
This â is why this â came about :D

Hi :)
I saw your ask box was open.
Can I suggest the merc falling asleep on their crushes shoulder during movie night? And when they wake up, they are alone with their crush who strikes their hair or cheek or something like that?
âFalling asleep on their crushes shoulder!
Genre: fluff, GN reader
Characters: Sniper, Engineer, Solider
This asker specified in a separate ask that it would be okay if I only did these three, unfortunately I think for now Iâll stick to just these three because I actually ended up getting a bunch of asks and didnât want to overwhelm myself too quickly. Very grateful for all the submissions btw! Anyhow enjoy!
Sniper
He would have to be seriously sleep deprived to let this happen.
Sniper his hyper aware of his surroundings at all times, him âaccidentallyâ brushing against something or someone is rarely ever just that.
Heâd be hyper aware whenever sitting next to you, always ensuring there was enough space as to not accidentally touch. He didnât want to make you uncomfortable or seem unprofessional, he already felt bad enough for having feelings for you.
To avoid leaning on you he just hung his head forward, falling asleep in the most uncomfortable position you have ever seen. But long nights of tossing and turning in his van had finally caught up and he was out like a light.
(Maybe it happens on accident, or maybe by your intervention he ends up leaning his head against your side. Oh no, what a terrible fate!)
He looks so calm and peaceful, so even long after the movie ended you decide to just keep quiet and let him sleep.
Eventually however he begins to stir, and wake with a soft sigh.
Freezes the second he realizes heâs against your side and under your arm. Like total deer in headlights, goes rigid.
He looks up at you to start spouting apologies and get off you, but instead with your free hand you just tenderly move a strand of hair out of his face with a smile.
His heart is beating out of his chest in an instant, and he quickly looks away to hide his burning face. Will not say anything from that point forward, and you choose to do the same, keeping the quiet ambience intact.
He might turn tail and run off or he might just stay, it honestly depends on the nature of your relationship up until this point. How close he views the two of you already.
If he lets a good thing be and just stays, he wonât talk about it or acknowledge it ever again. And if any of the mercs bring it up (which letâs face it, they will) he will deny it to the ends of the earth.
Thinks about it constantly, like constantly. He wonât be able to face you with a straight face for the next few days.
Engineer
Engie definitely ended up next to you on purpose, his passes at romance are typically pretty low-key, just sitting next to you is enough!
During movie nights he almost always pretends itâs just the two of you, making jokes about the movie while being shushed by the other mercs.
Tonight though it was a calming feel good movie, he couldnât really think of anything to make you laugh so he ended up just sort of dozing off.
Him resting his head against your shoulder though is a happy accident, he didnât mean it, but neither of you are mad about it.
I imagine that Engie is a super deep sleeper, once heâs out heâs out. So realistically you know you could probably sneak out from under him without waking him, but youâre not about to do that.
The first thing he goes to do when he wakes up is apologize for drooling.
But before he gets the chance you tenderly take your thumb as graze it over his cheek, smiling softly.
He freezes at first, heart caught in his throat.
But he gets his footing quickly, and starts âsorry for drooling on you darlinââ he said trying to break the ice a little bit.
âItâs okay,â you say taking a deep breath turning your attention back to your book âI donât mind.â
He stays, getting nice and cozy beside you. It will likely become pretty standard practice between the two of you, heâll shoo away any of the other mercs who might make fun.
This is the catalyst for him confessing to you for sure.
Solider
Solider is attentive at all times, if he falls asleep on your shoulder it is 100% on purpose.
Restless during movie nights, constantly (and loudly) interrupting the movie to ask questions or point out impossibilities. Doesnât get suspension of disbelief.
Does enjoy cozying up to you though, the other mercs caught wind that he is calmer and quieter if sat next to you, so it became pretty ritual.
âThis movie doesnât make any sense! Iâm going to sleep!â He loudly proclaimed to the group, earning a few annoyed groans and grunts from the other mercs. Promptly resting his head on your shoulder, praying you donât shoo him away, or become uncomfortable.
Kind of dips in and out of sleep, kind of has trouble getting completely comfortable, and eventually wakes back up to find the two of you alone. Definitely sort of sheepish once itâs just the two of you, may pretend to be asleep.
Instead of insisting he get up you just sort of scratch gently at his scalp, comforting him as you guys enjoy a domestic moment together alone.
Might confess his feelings on the spot, might not really depends on his mood.
Doesnât get up for a long time, an action thatâs probably wholly your idea cause your arm is falling asleep.
Wonât be shy about it, but likely wonât bring it up again afterwards, definitely doesnât enjoy any of the jokes anyone might make.
Is not opposed in the slightest to doing that again, pretends to be chill about it tho.
Eek! My first ask, Iâm so grateful this was fun to write! My favoritism for Sniper really shows ^^â whoopsssss

Now, he's stuck cooling his heels and feeling very out of place at some stuck up country club, where he feel he has more in common with the staff than the other members. Of course, that could be because the staff include his new 'how have we never met before' best friend Scott and the 'it should be physically impossible for someone to be that perfect' new crush, Derek. Who apparently hates him - but not enough that he won't swallow his pride and put up with Stiles' presence when he's needed to help get Erica out of trouble...
I May Be Naive But I'm Not Stupid by FelOllie
(18/? I 73,472 I Explicit)
Stiles Stilinski is the young, naĂŻve high school graduate who's headed off to Columbia University (with every intention of going on to Columbia Law) because that's what his parents expect of him. Even though, really, all he wants to do is take after his father and become a cop.
Derek Hale is the sexy, mysterious, just-this-side-of-standoffish-and-rude dance instructor. He and his partner, Lydia Martin, work the summers at the playing-at-posh mountain resort teaching the over-privileged adults and their spoiled kids how to do the merengue.
The summer proves to be exactly what Stiles needs to finally learn how to take control of his life.
But, what happens when it's over?

masterlist
---
She and Jamie had been dating since august 2023. She was in her last year in UCLA and he was playing for Anaheim Ducks. He was well spoken and caring, she found him cute. Jamie never thought they could be a couple. In his mind, she was way out of his league. Theyâve been hanging out a lot during his free time. She tried to attempt his every home game.Â
Jamie was shy. He didnât want to ruin their friendship so he kept his feelings to himself. She was tired of waiting for him to make a move, and decided to take it into her hands. After one movie night they had, she kissed him. He froze in place but after a couple of seconds, kissed her back. This moment ended their friendship but started a relationship.Â
When Jamie was traded to Philadelphia, she wanted to transfer to university in Pennsylvania but he stopped her. He knew itâs pointless. It was her final year and he believed that they could work long distance for half of a year. They made a deal that she will move to him during the summer and search for a job down there. It was easier to say than to do.Â
Tell me youâre fine, yeah give me a smile
But I know that something is going on
January went without any problems. Jamie called her at every occasion. Plenty of times, she was leaving her lectures just to answer his phone call. They spent hours each day texting. Although, she knew something was wrong with him. During their late night facetime calls, she could see that his face is not as cheerful as always. He was smiling but she had the intuition that itâs fake smile.
When she tried to ask him about it, Jamie was saying that everything is fine. He was covering his yearning by saying that heâs just tired. She wanted to believe in his words but she felt that something was happening in his life. The one thing that she hated in him was acting like everything was fine when he was in pain.Â
She decided to play along with his game. She trusted him and didnât want to argue over this. It hurted her that Jamie is not speaking with her about his feelings but she also knew thatâs normal for him. When he will be ready to talk, he will. At least she believed in that.
And thatâs how it starts
Yeah, I know you well
When Jamie picked an injury in february, he started to isolate himself from her. He missed her like crazy but he knew she had more important things than taking care of him and his feelings. She was always telling him that his problems are also her problems but he felt too embarrassed to share his thoughts with her.Â
She knew something really bad was happening with their relationship. She learned about his injury from his mother. Jamie hasn't even said this to her by himself. When she confronted him, he just made an excuse. She tried so hard to push him to talk to her but he was telling her itâs nothing and sheâs searching for a problem when everythingâs fine.Â
When you say itâs nothingÂ
Itâs never nothing
Jamie for the whole month of february was trying to convince her that nothing is happening. At the same time, he was pushing her away. He didnât want a pity party. He was a grown man and he knew he could handle long distance and injury by himself. Although, it was a lie. He needed her.
Jamie believed heâs doing the right thing. He knew that the minute he told her that heâs not fine, sheâs going to drop everything to be with him in Philadelphia. He didnât want her to sacrifice her graduation because he missed her. That was the last thing he wanted to do.Â
When Jamie was acting this way, she started to question their relationship. She felt that sheâs the problem and thatâs why he doesnât want to speak with her about how heâs doing. She missed his calls and memes he was sending to her. She was certain that she spent more time on talking with his mother than with him. Jamieâs mom became a line of communication in between them.Â
Try to be patient, giving you space, but
Seems like your mindâs halfway out the door
When march started, she changed her tactic. She decided to give him space. Last month, she was the one trying to keep their relationship going but without him, she couldn't do much. She stopped calling him and texting him. It was tough for her to just act like Jamie is not part of her life but she believed it was the right call.
Jamie thought differently. He felt that sheâs done with him and stopped contacting him because she wants to break up. He didnât react. He felt like itâs for the best. He always knew that she deserved better than him. He was just a shy guy playing hockey when she was an outspoken girl with a bright future in her industry.Â
His mind was going in the direction of breaking up. Jamie didnât want to end things. He loved her deeply but he also didnât want her to drop her whole life in California. Thatâs where she was born, where she grew up and thatâs where her future is. He didnât want to ruin her dreams because he was traded and missed her. He felt guilty for not being honest with her, he wanted to tell her everything but his own mind was stopping him from that.Â
I wish you could tell me
What youâre thinking
What youâre going through now
Jamie came back on the ice in April. Still havenât contacted her and he didn't know that sheâs in touch with his mother and knows everything. They havenât ended things in between each other. She believed they could rescue this relationship. His mother advised her to confront him. Push him to the wall so he would speak.
She followed this advice. When she knew Jamie had free time, she called him. To her surprise, he picked up after the first ring. Before he could even say hello, she started to ask him questions. He was taken aback by her outburst. He tried to make excuses just to not admit her the truth.
She started crying when Jamie wasnât honest with her. She told him how she felt in the past months. How she was mourning over their relationship, how she had to ask his mother for any updates in his life and how she couldnât focus on anything else than thinking about what went wrong with them. She asked him if sheâs the problem but he hasnât answered.Â
Jamie froze when he heard how she was feeling. He realized that he hurted her more by closing up on her than telling her truth. He felt bad, really bad and didnât even know what to say to her. After a minute of silence, she hung up. She wanted to give up on them but couldnât.Â
If you still care, want me there
Please, say something
She knew from his mother that Jamie is staying in Philadelphia for the whole summer. After graduation, she decided to pay him a visit to talk and sort things out in between them. When she landed, she started to question this decision but it was now or never. Before she knocked on his door, she stood in front of them for a couple minutes.Â
Jamie opened the door, surprised to see her. When he saw her, he almost cried. She had dark circles under her eyes and was skinnier than he remembered her. He felt that itâs all his fault. He immediately pulled her to a hug. She wanted to push him away but couldnât. The smell of cologne was something that calmed her.Â
Jamie invited her into the apartment and gave her a bottle of water. She took a sip and started talking to him. She explained to him how her situation looks from her perspective. He took a deep breath when she was done. Now it was his turn to talk but he felt embarrassed. He knew this situation was his fault.
When Jamie hadn't spoken, she said that he could at least have the bravery to break up with her instead of putting her through this hell. This was a final straw. He knew he had to react. As much as he wanted her to fulfill in California where her whole life is, he wanted to have her by his side. Finally told her what he had been dealing with for the last six months.Â
After she heard his monologue, she cried. Jamie instantly pulled her into a hug and he also broke down. Past half of a year was a challenge for them but their love was stronger than this. She dropped her life in California and moved to Philadelphia. Jamie promised her to be more open about his feelings. It was a long process but they promised to make things work this time. It was a fresh start for them.

I've been reading the emesis blue screenplay whenever I have a bit of free time, and it's so interesting to see the small changes they've made to some scenes.
But also, the knowledge that Fritz was supposed to have visions of being mistreated in prison in that one scene when he has a panic attack at scout's house makes me go hhhhhh
#60 seconds till mission begins rambles#If you can afford it; go support Fortress Films on patreon if you want access to the screenplay too; it's just 2 dollars a month#Honestly the script does clear up a lot of things not because the movie is confusing but because I am bad at listening to dialogues and#having all conversations spelt out with descriptions of the smaller details that are happening in the scene is super helpful#like who is seeing what in the corner of their eyes or what is in the black suitcase at the end when we see it open or#that one scene when soldier is talking to the police officers over radio to find out about who stole the black hearse and where it's headed#I didn't realise the guy who goes âroll down the window; I can't see your faceâ is the same guy who does the muffled screams 2 seconds late#there's a surprising amount of smaller scenes that were omitted which would have changed the feeling of some scenes a lot#It's only implied in the movie but Fritz puts Scout into the coffin after he's killed; that's actually described in the screenplay but#Instead of having a solemn moment about it the screenplay has him HURL scout into the coffin and then proceed to FIGHT for his life alksjdh#Screenplay Fritz is a different flavour of Fight and Flight and he has some more nightmares; let the man REST for a second#Ok no more spoilers; go read it yourself >:)

#With the heatwave combined with being ill for like an entire week it seems I've lost like 16 days this month#where I basically did barely anything... grrr.... The passage of time... My Enemy...#Now that I can finally hold down food and stuff I'm feeling a little better mostly and my sickness has probably passed. But I still#feel weird a little bit like.. some lingering weakness or something. I think I'm just already having so many Problems at all times even in#my 'Normal' state that whenever I get sick or something my whole system is thrown off for a while lol#I'm supposed to be writing like 2000 words a day still ghbjhb... I've had multiple days of maybe 1000 - 1500. And a lot of days#where I write maybe 20 - 300. I've still been chipping away at the same single quest dialogue for all 20 something#days this month so.. AUGH.. Though that also counts the 16 days I did nearly nothing but be sick and overheated#I finally edited that whole big sims video I wanted to post!!! but now there's an issue with it ... T o T#My fault for still almost exclusively using windows movie maker in 2024 lol.. but HHHHhh.. It's like every once in a while randomly#a fully edited video will not be able to be exported. so evil for this to happen to my first sims build tour in a while. but alas..#ANYWAY... I have been slowly working on little things here and there.. in my little scraps of time.. Wishing to be fully productive at#some point. Maybe I can finally finish and post some things soon. like costume photos or sims videos and etc.#BUT HEY.. that solitaire thing is crazy to me.. I don't think I've ever finished a challenge in under 20 seconds#before. huzzah.. tripeaks squad.. OH.. and an image of#curly tail boye.............. he..... I took him to the vet for a check up and he seems surprisingly okay for a 16 year old. except he has#a mild thyroid issue or something so I'll have to give him medicine. But every time he goes in I'm always expecting them to be like#Sorry. Your Son Is Truly Doomed. or etc. so I'm always shocked when he's fine... a strange boy with many strange behaviors#so I can never tell if he's just Being Weird or if he's sick or soemthing ghjbjh#Also the bad thing about never ending summer heat is that when it IS finally cool for a few days. I don't want to do ANYTHING. It's like wh#n it's hot I feel too sick to do anything. And then when it's cooler I'm like 'OUU the first cool day in WEEKS.. i want to just relax and#fully ENJOY the coolness..'' So it's always constant warfare with my body like.. NO ..we cannot SLEEP. We must utilize this small patch#of Non Heatwave to finally be productive and finish things while we don't feel sick. But then it's like ''ohoho...to lay in the cold air of#the morning restfully.. i shall have a little nap with a blanket on for once.. perhaps.. tee hee'' Always at war with the Tired Sleepy#it seems. AAAANyway...... grr............ slowly finishing things. still usually missing my target writing goals..#Hopefully will have some actual art or costumes or something to post soon. Fumbling through the summer weather as usual lol

thinking a lot about how IMMORTALITY squeezes a ton of meaning out of being a game. like, theoretically, you could get all the same themes and significance from watching all the footage once or twice, in order, all the way through. after all, that's kinda how previous game by the studio Her Story was: there was a full picture, and it was waiting for you to put all the pieces together so you could see it.
but IMMORTALITY's a bit different. the thing that you perceive to be the big mystery actually isn't that hard to solve, and is really just a couple stops to check off along your much longer journey of understanding. and so much of that is thanks to the specific mechanic of how you uncover new clips. you click on something in the shot, and you're brought to another shot with the same object, or a shot related to that object, or a shot thematically linked to that object. you're navigating via the Kuleshov Effect, and that means you're constantly, inevitably creating meaning through how you interact with the game.
like, super minor, non-spoiler-y example: there's a set of scenes connected by a cat. you see a cat in one scene and click on it, and you're taken to the rehearsal of a scene that will have that cat, but they aren't using the animal actor yet cuz it's just rehearsal. you're brought to the moment that an actress is leaning down and petting where the cat will be, at some point, later. it's a cute little move by the game designers, cuz yeah, these scenes are connected by that cat you clicked on, but not literally, only in the final product.
but then i clicked on the space where the cat would be, and it took me to another scene, once again with the actual cat. and isn't that funny. isn't that interesting. of course it makes sense in hindsight, right? we're traveling via cinematic language, and in rehearsal there's no difference between a cat and an empty bit of floor where the script tells you a cat will be. you gotta treat that empty space like there's a cat there, or else the whole thing falls apart.
this isn't a significant moment in the game. none of the three clips involved really matter that much. but like, at the same time, by connecting these three pretty empty filler scenes in this way, by taking you from a cat to a not-cat to a cat, and telling you that they're all equivalent, the game is making a pretty strong thematic declaration, one that would be completely absent if you'd just watched these three clips separately, in the parts of the movie that they belong in.
not every player is gonna read that deeply into this moment, just as i havent read this deeply into most of the other connections ive made in my so-far 12 and a half hours with the game. some folks will read something completely different into it (there's a pretty fun discussion you could have about it happening in 2 Of Everything specifically, playing into the mistaken identities plot via Schrödinger's cat). some players won't even find that connection at all! there's enough redundancy in everything here that nobody needs to find every possible point of interaction to finish or understand the game. and all that's kinda the beauty of it, right? there's a million ways to examine this text, to work your way through the enormous tower of information you're presented with, and every single one of those paths is gonna create unique meaning. they've taken the process of interpreting art and made it a game mechanic, without hamstringing the actual act of interpretation in the process. the game says "hey, in order to see everything, you're gonna have to make connections," but never forces your hand in what those connections have to be. it's absolutely fascinating.
#okay gonna talk about the Schrödinger's cat sidenote for a second here cuz ive got some Thoughts now#2OE centers around a mistaken identities plot where two women who look identical secretly perform as the same pop star#but then one of them gets murdered and the other has to figure out what happened#the really fun thing is that both women are played by the same actress and most scenes don't make it obvious which one she's playing#so while in the finished movie the audience would always know who's who as a player you have to puzzle that information out#and so a lot of your experience with 2OE is looking for little cues and building a timeline of events#and thats a really fascinating thing! it was clearly a deliberate move by the game's creators but not by the in-universe cast and crew#and the uncertainty of whos alive and whos dead plays into the themes of extracting unintended meaning from art#as well as playing into the meta-plot that stretches across all three films and the strange tragedies that've befallen them

There's a very fragile suspension of disbelief with certain movies.... which absolutely implodes in on itself when you're watching a movie SHOT IN YOUR CITY
and I don't mean story is set in it: no, your city is pretending to be somewhere else oh whats this, someone in Ghostbusters (2016) is freakin out because they're stuck in *checks notes* midtown Manhattan traffic and needs to be back at HQ in Chinatown and no way will make it in time.... bitch you're by Langham and the ShabuShabu restaurant thats make-pretend HQ is literally 5 min walk
I can see plain-as-day MBTA buses in the background. This space is draped in fabric because a landmark and the walls have city name all over. They hadda CGI in more watertowers and "signage" because Chinatown ain't visually "chinatown busy" .... oh hai thar fake subway entrance. You're in the Financial District, and this specific building architecture looks very much like that one building on 8th Ave in NYC so of course its used for the backdrop
A bunch of street signs or shop signs are blurred, to hide the endless 617 area codes!! Once you notice the selective blur, it cannot be unseen
....the opening of Free Guy cool car is spinning around Post Office Sq...
the shiny red car chase scene was shot in the blocks between Arlington & Copley, they literally closed off entire length of the street for safety and a tired PA had to walk people us thru the building to get to other street
#movies#ghostbusters#free guy#my phone still has baffled texts saved from Ms Sourpuss#as half the street signage around her office was changed to generic things for the movie and she was like WTF is this#and that other time during PokemonGo CD we couldn't walk thru down the block because of same movie#dishonorable mention for when a movie blocks off your job location for hours and the scene itself is barely few seconds long#which may even be cut from the final ver anyway#This has happened more than once

is having a friend crush more embarrassing than having a real crush. maybe
#and like i say: brf slt#like oh i am so excited that we 'sat next to each other at lunch again and had yet another great conversation with my bff' AAAAAH#it's crazy because i'm normal kind of but can also feel myself being obnoxious. I'M JUST EXCITED#the only thing that's gonna get me to calm down is us becoming even better friends than we are now...and it's like idk we're friends#now but the way people call people i wouldn't use the word friend in relation to their friend in english. we're very casual friends. but we#did get a drink just me that person and my bff the other day so like we do hang out...anyway...#we went to the movies last week and we're going again next week and we're gonna get dinner together and everything sođ#and we've been planning a party like the three of us it's very funny at this point i'm convinced it's never gonna happen it was supposed to#at my bff's before break like in october. didn't happen. then last week we said like the three of us that next friday (the 22nd) was a good#day for all of us (all 3 of us) and then (we were literally 3 when we made the plans) that person was like hm actually i can'tâ€ïž and now#it's not supposed to be at my bff's place anymore it's supposed to be at this person's place and we said december 12th like a month from#nowđ it's funny because. it's a RACLETTE PARTY and i'm supposed to bring the machine that's why i said the 3 of us it was her idea and it's#my machine and just. anyway. i actually have faith this time it's a month from now i don't think people are gonna be busy a month from now#they'll be free!#anyway. friend crush AAAAAAH#i love saying my bff i'll always call her that she's my best new friend we've known each other for two months now she's ACTUALLY the only#person i would consider my actual friend. and the person i'm talking about is my second favorite person in the group of people we're#hanging out with like guyyyys. idk. second bff by the end of the year. school year i'm not that ambitious i can be patient#group of people we're hanging out with: 13 people it's just everyone getting this same degree i said this last time so like we get along#but obviously i don't have great conversations with everyone#anyway. i'm not attracted to this person btw like i've looked at them through that lens and i was like no i don't even really like the#face...not a nice thing to say about my future best friend but like. they're very cool and i'm not into them. which is nice!

I love how this pole kind of prooves my theory that you have to know Tolkien's lore to either truly hate or enjoy this show.
Because if you don't know the lore, then you don't understand what the fuck is going on, as the show doesn't explain anything to the viewer.
So its either people who think of this show as a bad adaptation (which it is, lets not lie to ourselves), or people who were capable of looking at it as an etl fanfic and truly enjoy it.
#i would know because my friends who never even watched the movies are all meh when it comes to rop#they just lost interest because what the hell is happening#what is a silmarill what is barlog is eregion a city or a kingdom#is celebrimbor a king or a lord#they think sauron and morgoth is the same person#they have no idea why sauron exploded in the second season#this show has an issue of being its own thing and then leaning to heavily on movies and books#especially in second season
