ok so gonna do a bit of organizing on this blog to hopefully get things going on here once more. i will be dropping a few threads and deleting some stuff that's been in my ask box for too long, i apologize for that but pls don't let that discourage you from plotting / interacting with me-- a lot has happened in the past few months and rl stuff ended up pulling me away from here. :(

i do want to be more active on here from now on though, so i feel like dropping a few things and starting new ones is super necessary.

I try to! Sometimes one or two falls through the cracks when I don't have the spoons to respond right away, but I do try and at least acknowledge them even if it's been ages.

6. what is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Probably a little ficlet I wrote here on Tumblr and never put on AO3, in which one of the characters is revealed to have been dead the whole time. Usually I'm not about the super depressing endings though, just about everything else at least ends on a hopeful note, if not a resolved one.

7. what's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

I think most of my RiSang fics end on a happy note, especially the one-shots and the exchange fics. Love Light, Ordinary World, ADHAU, Wild Fire, Last to Know...I think they're pretty equally happy?

8. do you get hate on fics?

Not really, but I did get one bizarre comment on a fic where the commenter presumed to predict where the plot was going and then comment on how much they didn't like when things like that happened? Except it wasn't a fully published fic yet and the actual ending was...nothing at all like they predicted.

9. do you write smut?

I sure do.

10. craziest crossover?

I don't think I've ever actually written a crossover. Crazies fusion fic was definitely Les Amis Do Titanic (In Every Age).

11. have you ever had a fic stolen?

I don't think so. I mostly write rarepair/pool noodle fic in a tiny fandom so...who's really going to take it?

12. have you ever had a fic translated?

Not that I know of.

13. have you ever co-written a fic before?

I used to do a lot of forum-based RP, back when invision/tapatalk/proboards forums were all the rage in the early 2000s. In terms of fic I've published on AO3, I haven't. But that's largely due to the fact that I'm the slowest writer known to man, and I'd just end up frustrating any writing partner I had with my slowness ^_^;

14. all time favorite ship?

I think Weilan (Guardian) is the ship I've read the most fic for overall. But it's definitely not my longest-term ship or anything.

15. what's a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

The Weilan Mermaid AU I started back in like...2020? I fell into the DMBJ pits before I finished it and idk if I'll ever go back to it at this point.

16. what are your writing strengths?

I've been told I'm good at setting scenes and writing things that people can visualize, so that, I guess?

17. what are your writing weaknesses?

Oh god dialogue. I cannot write a normal conversation to save my life. What even is normal human interaction?

18. thoughts on dialogue in another language?

Nah. I mean I'll use a word here or there, if it's something very commonly understood in the fandom (like calling Wu Erbai "Er-shu" or Zhang Rishan "fuguan" if that's how a character would address them in the show). But in terms of full sentences? I wouldn't be confident enough in my ability to write the language fluently, and even if I could, I'd just have to provide translations anyway. Far easier to say "...'said so-and-so in [language]."

19. first fandom you wrote in?

Like, EVER? I had a generic American Girl doll that I named after a Baywatch character and wrote a story for her when I was like...9? Does that count?

20. favorite fic you've written?

I'm still really proud of Ordinary World. It's not my most popular by any measure, but I put a ton of work into it and I still enjoy re-reading it sometimes. Plus I'm proud of the fact that I churned out nearly 60k words in like a month since it was for an exchange that had a deadline.

Writing RP scenes as poetry ── 

I have never been very good at long-form writing. I know this is likely a skill issue that I can resolve with time and practice and, uh, more reading. I just really don't feel like it right now, and I'm trying not to let myself believe this is a commentary on my skill as a writer (or roleplayer). When I began roleplaying in FFXIV, however, I also started writing poetry again. Nothing exceptional, but I remembered I've always really enjoyed freeform poetry as an avenue of expression. Just clicks better for me.

So recently, I had a scene in my brain. I decided to write it out as a poem that's heavily inspired by the style 陳琛 (Chen Chen) sometimes uses.

Anyway, I'm sharing that scene below. It's from the perspective of an FFXIV OC, Ibant, who currently serves as the steward of House Valeriant.

「 When an Entire Year Passes Faster than I Can See 」 The pen doesn’t stop writing, not as long as I am awake. The bells do not slow, because they don’t care if I need rest. But my mind is always burning with a thousand anxieties that I can’t possibly think of putting it down on something soft. Softness brings to mind the image of a writer who sleeps. I know without having to look that Frydstyr is in my bed tonight because he had come to watch me work in hopes that I might think about stopping long enough to eat solid, substantial food. My empty stomach reminds me that he had brought dinner with him. The braised beef is sitting within my reach in a shallow serving dish taken from the cabinets with the nice, matching sets and silverware. He used them because he likely felt I deserved to feel special. The chiming of my clock draws me back to my current task. I realize my pen had stopped moving and the words on the page had stalled for an indeterminate time while my tired mind drifted. This isn’t paperwork I want to put off – it’s more like a labor of love. I remind myself I can’t keep hiding behind my duties if I want to be happy too with the people I’ve surrounded myself with. Yet right now, I’ve entered a race against the fast approaching date that will mark when our time here is meant to draw to an end. No one is going to leave, so just use the other papers you wrote up. I can’t reuse that contract without amending a few terms, but what would Zahret know when his head is in the clouds these days, floating higher than anyone has any right to without losing their ability to breathe. My eyes begin to lose focus so I force them to see again by blinking. The ink begins to look like words again, obediently stretching across clean parchment to be read back in my own voice. I repeat everything more than I have to, making sure the message can’t possibly be lost. I, (your name here), shall remain a loyal knight of House Valeriant, sworn to serve and protect the Valeriant bloodline. Should I specify that they would also protect Valeriants who are not related by blood? My pen touches down again and weaves another dull sentence into being. Bureaucracy is the slowest death I can imagine for passion and creativity. Fortunate, then, that I am not someone who was trained to grow words like flowers in a garden. I can’t ever argue when someone says, in jest, let Ibant handle the reports, because I find a curious joy in technicalities. No one will break this family apart on technicalities while I hold this pen. The contracts will be ironclad under the lovely veneer of knightly oaths. I hope, when they read these papers and see the names that have signed, they will fully grasp the love that they have cultivated in this house.

preference  of  communication: Any, really. I'm fairly (read: brand) new to the RP side of Tumblr, and current-era Tumblr in general, so I'm still figuring out how business is conducted. Messages, email, discord. I'm around and happy to chatter.

name  of  most  active muse(s): Tula, for sure. She's been the framework around which I'm learning VtM, and I love it. She's also the one who's been the slowest and most deliberately developed, and I think it's paid off well. I have another, Grace Letts, who's lingering around, having made the jump from another story concept to WoD, but she's probably a Mage (!!!), and it's gonna be a minute before I'm ready for MtA. 

experience/how  long  (months/years?): The is the part where you realize that I'm rather old. 😂 (If the millennial emoji usage doesn't give it away first.) I first discovered RP on AOL in the late 90s. That's also where I first learned about VtM, but really just the general lore (Ventrue are business! Toreador are art sluts! Sabbat are the bad guys!). I've taken long stretches of time away, often years, but it's an itch I always return to. I usually lean more toward the writing/story side of things, but I'm down to try almost anything.

platforms  you’ve  used: Mostly play-by-post writing sites. Discord.

best  experience:  Teaming up with @silkenred! They are the creative partner I've been looking for since the day I started this journey. Working together on our story has renewed my interest in writing, roleplaying, and everything WoD. They are one of my favorite people on the planet. Fun Fact: When I met them, they were writing a series of haunted infomercials for a Twin Peaks-inspired group RP, and I thought it was the coolest thing I'd ever read. 😂

rp  pet  peeves  /  dealbreakers: Writing with partners who treat my character like their narrative sidekick. No. I'm not interested in playing plot support to your superstar. (Unless it's a really specific, well-communicated situation.) In a partnership our characters carry equal importance: I'll make yours look good, but I expect the same consideration in return.

fluff,  angst,  or  smut: All of the above? All at once? 😳 In all seriousness: I love some angst, with fluff to keep it from being a complete slog, and smut can be delightful if done right, but it isn't essential. 

plots  or  memes: I'm not really sure what this means exactly, in an rp context as either/or, but I'm pro-plots and pro-memes!

long  or  short  replies: My major project right now is a co-authored story, and the replies we send each other are generally between 750-1500 words. (In the past 15 months, we've written just over 100k words together! And guys, silkenred writes GOOD words.) But I think there's a lot of fun and merit in shorter, more casual formats as well.

best  time  to  write: Morning! Like, 7am-9am or so. It's generally a quiet time in my household, and easier to focus before the rest of the day smashes through.

are  you  like  your  muse(s): There are definitely elements of Tula, mostly emotional, that I've pulled from my own experiences, or things I've observed in those around me. Grace, the aforementioned eventual-mage, probably has life experiences that more specifically line up (thematically, at least) with my life. She's younger, though, and dresses better, and she's more likely to punch someone. She also sees ghosts.

See I don't want to come off weirdly to any prospective or current RP partners by admitting to ship biases with my BG3 ladies like I'm possibly forcing ships or something. Because I am not at all intending to force ships and view the events of my BG3 playthroughs like romances as entirely separate from things that happen in RPs.

But also I just have to ramble at least a little about why I ship Lae'zel and Raven and it's just.

Two women, raised in violent and harsh societies, both taught they had to rely on themselves, had to be strong, couldn't afford to be vulnerable. One who was taught anyone around her could stab her in the back at a moment's notice, the other whom was raised to be a soldier from birth. Both in societies forged by a powerful woman who uses those below them for their own ends.

Two women like that who then come together and come to trust each other, learn they can be vulnerable with one another, that they can keep each other safe, rely on each other in ways they never thought they could ever rely on someone for.

It being a dramatic bard and a grumpy soldier is the cherry on top.

It'd absolutely be the slowest burn to ever grace Faerun, and yet the prospect just sounds so good.

(Also will mention this similarly applies to Minthara as oh god two women from the same horrid society possibly finding in each other trust and safety they've never had before... very good stuff.)

((I have 2 methods, which I need because frankly I have waaaayayyy too many threads. The hard part for me isn’t keeping track - it’s coming up with ideas to write.

For every thread, no matter what, I put it in my drafts the moment I see my partner has replied. This is important because then it doesn’t get buried. Sometimes I’ll reply right away but usually people reply while I’m at school or working on stuff for school, or I just don’t know what to write at that moment. So I draft it. Sometimes they get buried and stay there for a long time........

Which is why the second thing I do is using thread tracker. It tells me when it’s my turn, which is nice because tumblr’s notifications are not always reliable. Also it’s only a list of threads - no scrolling through ask memes I want to post at some later date, or pictures I drafted because tags are a pain to write on mobile when I’m at school. Things don’t get buried on thread tracker.I don’t use it for every thread though, mostly just for the “main” ones that concern the plot, like the repairs one with @ask-dr-knockout, or the one with @pacificae-mors. I have ten in there, and probably another ten to fifteen that are with new partners and/or short slice-of-life threads with my regulars.

Like I said, too many threads. It’s why I’m not starting new ones unless they’re with someone who lives in the base or it’s part of the main plot that I’ve discussed behind the scenes with the other mun(s).))

aha the drabbles i'm currently writing aren't full fics or anything unfortunately but i'm almost done with a bokuroo beach date one !! i just wanted to write something fluffy... but i'm also trying to write a little something for bokuto's birthday, we'll see if i make it in time cause i'm the slowest writer ever... 😭

When I first wrote A Soft Place to Land many, many months ago (maybe over a year??) it was just supposed to be for me. It was just a backstory for my OC before a friend's RP started up. (Yeah, I did write a 50,000 word fic just for myself. Doesn't everyone?) I had literally zero intentions of ever letting another human (besides my RP partners) read it. I wrote it long before season 2 ever came out, and then after I watched the new episodes, I decided that I wanted to write MORE for Din and my OC.

So I did, and then I decided that maybe I could share it, and *maybe* someone would read it. I was honestly not prepared to have so many people subscribe and leave the sweetest comments. It's genuinely been the nicest experience. I've second-guessed my writing a lot over the years, as I know most writers do, so it's meant a lot that people seem to enjoy this fic. In other fandoms I've written for, OC fics were NOT popular at all, so I was expecting the same with this one, honestly. The fact that that's not the case and that OC fics are *celebrated* in this fandom is so nice.

As I've edited each chapter to get it ready to post, I've started revising a little and expanding, and now things are going in a slightly different direction than I had originally written, which is fine! I love the new direction! LOVE IT. But this is a slow burn in the truest sense of the word, so in the orignal timeline, nothing happens during the events of the first season.

*POSSIBLE SPOILERS* And in the sequel chapters I've written to go along with season two (which is no longer a sequel, ASPtL is just going to keep going), the Moment doesn't happen until AFTER the events of season 2. Which is just... the slowest of slow burns. */POSSIBLE SPOILERS*

So now, in my rewrite of the chapters as I go along, things are... happening a little faster. My dilemma, however, is that I LOVE THE CHAPTER I WROTE FOR THEIR BIG MOMENT. I LOVE IT WITH MY WHOLE HEART. But it doesn't happen for a loooong time, and if I let things speed up, I won't be able to keep the chapter as it is, because it will change a lot of the plot. And I've been debating for three days whether or not to revise that chapter and move it up or hit the brakes and slow them down again.

But I *also* love the chapters I've revised the past couple of days where things are *hinted* at, so I don't know what to do.

All I know is I love these two idiots with my entire soul, and I'm totally lost on how slow is too slow for a slow burn.

In conclusion, I love every single person who has liked/left a kudos, reblogged, or left a comment on this fic. It truly means so much to me. 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
