There's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow
Chapter 38: It's all Relative
(I want to thank everyone so much for their patience with me. This chapter was so difficult to write due to being more dialogue heavy and not as action oriented, but I've finally got it!)
When Billie woke up, everything was silent.
It had to have been the middle of the night (not that there was a way to tell time down here). There were no business shoes clacking on tile floors or low voices speaking over radios, phones, or intercoms. Everything was still… she couldn’t tell if it made her feel peaceful or anxious.
She sat up and blinked the sleep out of her eyes. Gaston and Lucille were still fast asleep. Speaking of Gaston, he was looking much better already. He had his color back, and he had finally stopped shaking. Billie turned around to glance outside the cell.
She nearly screamed.
In the darkness, the large silhouette of the Boss stood outside the cell. He observed the trio silently.
------------
Cornelius was adding the last few features to the ladyb0t.
He used a magnifying glass to look closely as he used a screwdriver to put the teeny panels back into place. If all went according to plan, it would be able to climb into computers and monitors to hack or destroy them.
“All done,” he spoke quietly after ensuring everything was as it should be.
The little bug struggled to flip off its back for a moment, until Cornelius carefully used the screwdriver to flip it onto its belly. It looked up at him with raised antennae. The little bug had been his only companion ever since he ended up here.
Strange how this one little thing helped him not feel so alone. He blinked away a tear.
He missed his family.
------------
In a flash, Bud pulled his wife to stand behind him and held out a cautious hand.
“Hey now, we don’t want any trouble with you!”
Laszlo stumbled backward but caught himself.
“I-it’s okay!” He stuttered. “I don’t want any either! I swear! My sister has an infected wound and she’s really sick-”
“Shouldn’t you take her to a doctor?”
“We can’t! They’ll find us!” “Who?!”
“These people- okay, okay let’s just start over-” Laszlo put his hands up to calm everyone, but spoke quickly.
“Okay. My family and I are hiding in your home-”
“Family? How many are there?!”
“Don’t worry I’ll get there-”
“You didn’t answer the question, son. Who are you hiding from?”
“Some kind of officers? They might be spies, I’m not sure. They’re hunting down my family and I because we’re from the future. I promise, we don’t want any trouble! We’re just trying to hide until we can get home!”
The two just stared at him with wide eyes.
Slowly, Bud leaned over to Lucille. “Honey, you might want to call someone… I think he’s sick in the head…”
Lucille picked up the house phone from its stand, looking at Laszlo sympathetically.
“Don’t you worry, sweetheart. You stay right there, we’re gonna have someone come get you and they’ll take good care of you and your sister…”
“No!” Laszlo nearly panicked. “Please! They’re after us! I don’t know who they are, but they’re terrible people who want to hurt my family! I’m not sick!”
There was no way to explain this without sounding crazy. He didn’t care if the rest of the world saw him as crazy. He just needed them to listen…
“Look, you don’t have to believe me. We can go somewhere else, but please don’t tell them we’re here. Please. My sister won’t survive… not in the state she’s in…”
Bud looked confused, but Lucille looked concerned. She put the phone down, slowly reaching over her husband’s shoulder to lower his arm as well. “Honey… he’s just a kid. He needs help.”
Bud thought for a moment. He hummed and whispered something back to her. The two seemed to talk quietly amongst themselves, debating their next course of action.
Laszlo watched them nervously, his eyes warily shifting between the two of them behind his goggles. He fidgeted with his shirt or with his hands, anxiously awaiting to hear what they had to say. He still needed to get Tallulah help, but if he bolted, he knew they’d alert authorities. Not that he can blame them…
Lucille noticed the way the strange boy couldn’t seem to hold still, very much like the way her husband or his brother Fritz did. Lewis, meanwhile, was more relaxed. Until he had an idea, that is. Once he had a project, there was no stopping him.
She got an idea.
“You said you were from the future. Is there any way you can prove it?”
Laszlo glanced at the door to the lab and back to her.
“I can. Just… wait here. I’m coming right back.”
They didn’t have time to protest before he disappeared into the lab. Bud and Lucille exchanged a confused glance. Suddenly, they could hear distant hushed voices from upstairs.
“You told them?! Why would you tell them?!” “They spotted me! I didn’t have a choice.”
“I forot to ut mh teef in-”
The double doors pushed back open and the young man stood silently. He stepped aside, and the married couple gasped at seeing an elderly, toothless Bud Robinson standing in the doorway without a care in the world. Laszlo glanced at Bud, did a double take, and realized the other figure was hiding behind him. “Dad-” He moved the other man - one older middle aged Fritz Robinson - to stand next to his brother.
Bud - the younger one - and Lucille stood speechless. The red haired boy really was telling the truth.
“Ah, and who’s this handsome devil?” Grandpa Bud teased, admiring his younger self. Younger Bud shook his head in disbelief. “I don’t understand... How is this possible?
“Our son is a real special kid,” Grandpa Bud replied with a wink.
Lucille was over the moon, ecstatically going from person to person to look them over (much to Fritz’s unease). “Your family…” Lucille murmured, remembering Laszlo's words. “If your family is our family… who are you?”
“I’m your nephew. Fritz’s son.” Laszlo beamed, relieved they were reacting positively to such a bizarre situation.
“Fritz’s son… You have a son!” She looked wide eyed at Fritz, who only chuckled timidly. She turned and smiled at Laszlo again. “And you said you had a sister, too?”
Laszlo suddenly remembered. He froze. Tallulah.
Lucille saw his expression change.
“Where’s your sister, hun?”

Starter for @cloudpools (for Blythe)
Aspen had been running for... she didn't even know how long anymore. Hours, most likely.
The dryad princess had never dared to run away from home until tonight. At first, she'd reveled in the euphoric feeling of finally having freedom and independence all to herself. She'd get to go wherever she wanted, without any guards or family watching and deciding her every move!
But that feeling had since disappeared, soon to be replaced by immense uncertainty and guilt. It was starting to weigh on her that she was truly alone now, in a wilderness she was completely unfamiliar with.
"Oh god, what am I doing? What am I doing...?" she muttered to herself, pacing back and forth.
This had been a stupid idea. Mother and father would be in a panic by now. And Aster would miss her terribly. She should just turn around and go back home...
But going back home meant going back to boring royal duties, never leaving the boundaries of the woodlands. And the threat of the arranged marriage she wanted absolutely no part of.
With a groan, she sat down on the ground, hugging her legs close to her body, trying to ignore how stressed she currently felt.
#[forest princess; aspen]#so sorry for the wait!#i got an idea for a starter immediately after reading your dm reply

Had a random thought/question and decided to toss it out there. Is your muse religious? Spiritual? Why, or why not?
Khare has never been one for religion although her parents practised different faiths. Luckily they never tried to force her to follow either one, only to respect other beliefs which she still does to this very day. On one hand, her parents having different faiths is probably what contributed to her not being religious herself - both can't be right, not when they're so different and while she and her siblings participated in holidays as children, Khare grew out of it, especially once her parents parted ways.
Spiritually her beliefs have taken a heavy blow. Before she was vaguely agnostic, that maybe both can't be right but perhaps one or another was, that there's a caring God looking down upon the world but now she's certain there's not. Her time in captivity under Prometheus dashed those naive hopes, watching unspeakable horrors unfold. If God was watching that day, he certainly didn't seem to mind when so many died or mutated, when the Mennonite girl begged for salvation only to mutate into a monstrosity right there and there. Some might say her escape was due to divine intervention, that a guardian angel was watching over her but Khare scoffs at the idea, that of all the people taken by the facility, why was she the only one to be saved? When there were many others more deserving who were younger and more innocent, with lives of their own that had so much more meaning than hers if God gave a shit? Then there were the horrors in the mountains and surrounding woodlands, being stalked and hunted by creatures even Hell couldn't dream up. Khare hasn't lent a thought to religion or spirituality since, because if there is judgement in the afterlife, she deserves everything coming her way.
#goldenmedic#religious talk tw#religious talk cw#🌈 || musings#🌈 || headcanons#2 weeks later and I finally answer this#So sorry for the wait!#This was a lot of fun to answer though and I apologize it took so long because of that#Khare's upbringing was odd#Her mother was Baptist and her father followed Hinduism#Khare probably leaned more towards her mother's faith in her younger years but recent experiences... yeah#Also HUGE Survivor's Guilt#She can't think she's special or worthwhile after all that when she didn't even try and help everybody else stuck back there#Very painful thoughts

During the 1978 in Los Vegas waiting for the ghost train or the ghost car going back to New Orleans with her painting by her side going to house to house, manor to manor, apartment to apartment, and too art gallery to art gallery mostly seeing the whole world and having every single token from her adventures being with a mortal (as a painting). When the ghost train came Hannhson got on the ghost train and paying for her ticket and found a seat to sit by herself having her painting next to her which Hannhson haunts.
When she got to New Orleans then got off the ghost train and seeing it leave and Hannhson frowned,"Great.Where am I gonna go now?" She frowned sitting on the ground of New Orleans but she saw the Gracey Manor then her head turned into an light bulb then morph back into her normal ghost head,"I got an idea!" She said as she picked up her painting and teleported at the endless hallway and saw a room that no one used, she put her painting on the wall!
"That looks good!" She grinned then Hannhson heard voices then hid in her painting so she wouldn't be seen but she stuck her head out and saw Hatty with The Hitchhiking Ghosts talking to each other but didn't know Lily was looking at her which Hannhson turned her head at her,"SHHHHH!" Hannhson glared at her.
Lily was accustomed to the paintings in the manor moving and transforming all on their own. She had been living at a very haunted mansion for a few years by now, after all. But this one was certainly new. At the very least, she hadn't seen it, before. The teen smirked. It wasn't the first time a new ghost tried to hide from the others.
"Hey, dad? Lily called.
Thomas turned, mid-conversation. He had been so drawn into a discussion involving finding Ezra's collection of long-lost marbles that he hadn't noticed the clear difference in the room.
"Yes, dear?" he replied.
"I didn't realize we had a new painting," Lily said, leaning in for a closer look, "do you think she's from the basement? Hardly anyone goes down there, do they? Or one of those rooms where the knob's rusted and no one's been in there in ages?"
"Hmm..." he examined the painting a little closer, muttering, "perhaps, but I don't think I've ever seen this painting before and I've been all around the mansion, even as a boy. Best to let the Ghost Relations Department know. Ezra? Phineas? Gus? Would you mind?"
"So... in the meantime...?" Lily asked, side-glancing the newcomer.
"In the meantime, we make our guest feel welcome," he said, tipping his hat to the painting, "how do you do, miss? Thomas Gracey, at your service."

@emily-lotus liked for a Guy starter (so sorry for the wait!)
He had to admit, living in Grand Chokmah somehow had managed to take some adjusting to. Who could really blame him for that much? He'd spent a good portion of his life until that point living in Baticul as a servant in Luke's manor. Now he was more or less a fully reinstated noble, and he'd needed to take the time to get used to that lifestyle.
...Though, really, some days he felt like a glorified rappig walker. This was one of those days. He had all six of Peony's rappigs leashed up and walking along with him through the streets of Grand Chokmah. It was a normal enough sight. Of course it was. Everyone knew about Emperor Peony's rappigs, didn't they? It was just Luke, being the youngest of the rappigs, that was a bit of a wild card.
And the fact that Luke had managed to tug his leash out of Guy's hand and go darting off toward a young woman was enough to make things a little chaotic. Guy wasn't certain how he managed to get the other rappigs to follow, but he managed it.
"Luke!" Guy called out to the young rappig. Fortunately, it looked like he hadn't caused much more trouble than investigating Emily's presence. Nonetheless, Guy offered an apologetic smile.
"I'm sorry about him, ma'am. He's just friendly..."

Cont. @lured-into-wonderland
The Stranger perks up a little as he hears someone speak, taking a moment to even realize that it's him being spoken to and not someone else. "Hrm?" He vocalizes, voice surprisingly soft for his rather… serious and dour appearance. "I know the owner quite well, they put a lot of effort into their craft." Of course- he 'knew' them because he and his crew tended to hang out around here, hell- this place was under the protection of the Mob because of it. "…I do tend to take my coffee here quite often, it's close by to where I work." It was only a half-lie really, his boss' 'Team' as it was was tasked with this block and it's surrounding areas, collecting protection fees and the like- everything here was his workplace.
"…Work in Security, if you were about to ask." He glanced down at his watch. Damn it all, he didn't often have to talk with people without purpose- why had this woman even come up to him in the first place? He really hoped it wasn't to hit on him or anything, the last thing he wanted early in the morning was to try to dance his way around the 'Gay' issue without saying anything publically. 2001 just wasn't quite there yet, much as he was loathe to admit it. "…why are you talking to me?" What if she was an enemy? From a rival family or something, or maybe even some small-time gang member trying to take someone from Passione down. Maybe she was an assassin sent to send a message to his boss, maybe-
Maybe she was a normal woman. A normal woman who just wanted to talk during her morning commute. He tried to relax, twitchy free hand staying still at his side.
#verse: jjba#lured-into-wonderland#so sorry for the wait!#excuse Angelo being a paranoid mess#he's just like that sometimes

banana shake. ♡ now showcasing: @cherrylgc
“do you think you can carry all those bags by yourself? we should’ve made a few trips.”
volunteer work had somehow become one of jihan’s favorite things to do as a trainee. she didn’t know that this was all part of being one when first coming to legacy, but the one act of kindness from the girls made her feel complete with her day-to-day life. the task reminded her of the times back at home, helping out the elders in passing or simply wanting to do something good.
this was a good thing, not seen as some punishment.
with her jacket zipped up and a scarf wrapped around puffy cheeks, jihan held the multiple bags in her hand as the two made their way to the next house. “i wonder if they do eat everything they ordered... this is a lot.” she giggles, slightly huffing out the cold air as they slowly walked down the hill and away from the car. the older was happy that snow had started to melt away, no black ice was covering the streets where they walked. she couldn’t imagine one of them slipping and falling. neither of them would hear the end of it.
“sometimes they give out snacks as a thank you, maybe we can get one today.”

"So pretty...." She muttered. Gemini would feel a sorrowful tug in her heart each time she looked at the moon and stars. She missed home, and sensed the moon missed her. Come home, Gemini. The moon whispered to her. Soon, she will return. Not yet. She wanted to enjoy her time here in this beautiful planet.
Her smile was soft. It was nice for her to hear someone praise the moon. He has been my favourite, as well. Tell him I have a lot of adoration for him. Please tell him that, Gemini. The moon's voice was warm, gentle and sweet like honey. "The moon," Gemini whispered. "likes you...v...v...very much."
