I'd been long-awaiting the new Pecas EP since it was first mentioned. The Yearning were brand new to me, delivered courtesy of the always-reliable Elefant Records. smolalienbaby is Victoria, formerly of Finnish bedroom pop act Eerie Summer. Sushi Backpack and Battery Point are of course Fallen Love artists. And Too Young To Go Steady and Tiptoes are new friends from our local scene while The Get and Akage No Anne are old friendships predating Fallen Love. What more can I say about Free Cake? "Around You" was my favorite song of the year and the music video made me cry the first time I watched it. "Rhysand told me all about the new baby," she confessed to her sister-in-law, "The moment we got back from the races, I gathered all of my favorite children's stories from the library so you can read them to Edward and the baby together when she is born, though I suppose it's not official that the baby is a girl, but Rhysand and I were talking and we both hoped it would be a girl so that Edward can have a sister, but I also suppose that doesn't matter when it comes to books... Nevertheless, here they are."

Victoria's gaze softened, her head falling slightly to the side as a hopeful smile crawled onto her face. "Oh, that's exciting!!" she clapped, pearly white teeth beaming through her painted lips, "You are so beautiful together. When will the wedding be?? I'm sure it will be the most romantic affair of the season." She knew not of broken betrothals, betrayals, or retreating from one's duty to marriage. Her only example of marriage was Rhysand and Defne, a couple who was so strong and formidable with how deeply in love they were with one another. "I hope when I am betrothed I can look at them the way you look at your fiancé."

Oh did he love the naive who hadn't read much of any gossip, or if they did they just turned a blind eye to it. He wasn't sure which one she was but he just chalked it up to a bit of fate on his side. "She is not," he replied, "though we are betrothed and she'll soon be my wife," he nodded, knowing that wasn't something she wanted and he felt the need to help her in some ways - however weird it sounded

The Story:

Victoria has always felt like a black sheep in her rather large English family. She's much smaller, speaks in sonnets and songs, walks as though she floats on air, but she knows her siblings want to do their best to make her feel like she's one of them. However, deep down she's always known she isn't. As the youngest princess, she also knows she is the most useless to her family unless she marries someone extremely powerful, but she's so young and doesn't even want to think of such things. She has the bleeding heart that a young princess ought to have, but she is not politically minded in the slightest. She is spirited and has always enjoyed laying in the grass, feeling the blades beneath her fingers under the gloomy English sky. When it rains, however, she locks herself up in her library reading anything she could get her hands on (even things she shouldn’t be caught reading). The Princess has little regard for pleasantries. Life is so short. People die of plague at the turn of every corner, so why bother holding back when one can just say what they feel at all times? That is the philosophy Victoria lives by. She has little regard for titles, though not maliciously in the slightest. Everyone has beautiful names that they ought to be called. When she feels she is being judged or condemned for the workings of her mind, she doubles down on them and refuses to change for anyone. The one thing her siblings worry about the most for her is how well she’ll fare in the future when her mind is so stuck in the past.

Etienne Bourbon. Best friend. They are equals to each other, eerily similar in demeanor and personality. They keep each other’s secrets locked tight and often enjoy garden picnics together. It’s one of the easiest friendships that came about for her.

Victoria nodded her head, eyes fading from her mother down to the keys of the piano once again. "I quite like Defne," she chuckled a bit, "She scares me a bit sometimes, but that's okay. At least she likes me well enough. I'd hate to be one of her adversaries." If she had will-power enough to keep her entire family at home, it was an admirable trait to be so influential, so formidable. Her hands fell back into her lap as she listened to her mother play, feeling as though she were a little girl again, looking up at the queen mother with admiration and wonder. Except times were different now. To start, this was not England, the sweet-smelling halls of Buckingham House in London. Also it was just the two of them, rather than her beaming papa by their side, as well.
