Butcher & Blackbird by Brynne Weaver is my current fiction read and i *hate* it with my entire being. don't read it.

Postcolonial Astrology: Reading the Planets through Capital, Labor, & Power by Alice Sparkly Kat is my current non-fiction read and so far, it's very good

i'm reading a lot of comics at the moment, but my main read is Manhunter (2004) which so far, is very good, i highly recommend. i'm also planning to read Midnighter (2007) and Black Widow (2014).

currently watching:

The Acolyte has been my most recent fixation so that's just on loop rewatching over and over in the background. a lot

i've been watching Pennyworth which is far better than i expected it to be, i'm really enjoying it

i also started Invincible, which i've been enjoying

idk if it counts but i've rewatched Madame Web a concerning number of times in the past few days.

currently craving: i'd kill for an Italian Cream Soda from tea2go rn

coffee or tea: tea. i used to be a big coffee person in my teens but my chronic illness doesn't like caffeine and it *really* doesn't like coffee so i just drink tea now, but i do love tea

hobby to try: the unrealistic hobby i'd like to get into a fanfiction binding, but that takes materials and resources i do *not* currently have. i think a more realistic answer is i've been meaning to get into marvel comics more.

current au: tbh the main AU i'm working on is a Lance Brunner-centric Post-Crisis fic where i'm completely rewriting his origins to make his death as Robin more significant but still something no one talks about, leading to the ressurection of Jason also reviving Lance and Jason going on his little spree, having no idea he's not the only dead Robin. i've figured out all of the backstory and how i want to characterize Lance, but the actual plot of the fic i'm still working out. i'm leaning toward Lance/Dick as a ship, but i haven't decided. i have so many notes and ideas though and i think it's funny to take a random one-off character from a random 60s comic and actually turn him into something substantial and how he'd shape the Batfamily. trust me i'm so close to infodumping about it here everyday.

i'm also working on a *really* messed up unhealthy Damian/Tim fic, where Damian purposefully breaks the timeline so Tim was never Robin and Damian was the third Robin instead. but when Bruce "dies" Damian realizes he has no idea where to start with finding Bruce so he has to go to a civilian!Tim for help, who has no idea the timeline was changed or that he was ever Robin in a different world. it's gonna be fun and fucked up and full of Damian's jealousy complex over Tim.

After nearly a year of careful planning and talking about it, her and Eric finally just went for it. Ronnie was expecting their first child and when the official announcement was made to their friends and family, it was pretty much guaranteed there would be a big celebration.

In true Seph fashion, the party was going to be wonderfully over-the-top. Even more perfect was the fact that everyone was in attendance. Including the Rolland's who were back on a visit from their worldly travels. This might be her and Eric's party but that didn't mean Ronnie couldn't make a little magic happen for the sake of certain other people's happiness.

"Seph needs someone to be a helping hand with some lights around the pool," she told her big brother with an air of casualness. As if she had no clue his hands would be helping Gray with that particular matter. She wasn't sure if Deacon was quite ready for the relationship leap just yet but that didn't mean she couldn't keep pushing the friendship between them. It was the best foundation for more after all.

If Deacon was suspicious, he didn't show it so she assumed that she had been subtle enough. At least until he figured out who he would be hanging lights with.

Smiling to herself as her brother went off on his assignment, Ronnie was figuring out how she could get Alice and Quinn alone together. Maybe she could arrange for them to pick up the food. Texting her plan to Seph as she went looking for Alice, her phone chimed a few minutes later that she had Quinn on it.

"Hey Alice," Ronnie greets perhaps too cheerfully when she finds her, "We need someone to go help pick up and carry food. Do you mind going along?" It was the perfect setting: Alone in a car together for 40-ish minutes. There was plenty they could talk about. Like maybe the fact that they were so obviously in love with each other and had been for as long as she knew both.

Still smiling at her a tad too cheerfully, Alice appeared to pick up on it.

“why do you have that look on your face?”

Uh oh. She definitely hadn't been subtle enough this time. "What? There's definitely not a look. What do you mean?" She asks innocently. "I'm just... Helping Seph is all. If you don't want to pick up food, we could put you," And Quinn, "On drinks or something." She was overselling the innocence now. She could tell by how suspiciously Alice was looking at her but it kept coming out like word vomit now.

"I just thought maybe food pick up would be easier." She continues. "It's a nice relaxing drive... Breezy, quiet... Good company." Oops. Was that a dead give away? "I think you'd enjoy it."

hii :] so i decided i would kind of give a broad overview of my ocs in general, there's a couple of main groups (i have too many in general to fit in one post but this includes the main ones i talk/think/write/draw about the most).

UNTITLED MAIN WIP

this is my oldest project! it's a fantasy story set in a kingdom where the royal family is descended from nai, the god of fire. they rule with the ability to manipulate flame and are revered as demigods by their kingdom's religion. however, not every member of the royal family has the privilege of being born with this ability.....

this story follows teo and lorelei as they enter this kingdom and attempt to track down teo's missing mother while also getting tangled up in old secrets...

SHARP TEETH

i spoke about sharp teeth in an earlier post but it's my vampire wip! it's set in a fantasy world where the sun's light is cast extremely unevenly over the surface of the world, and so certain areas are permanently cast in darkness - allowing vampires to thrive.

in the cloudy twilight of korosvet, niki is a hunter of supernatural phenomena tracking down the entity that murdered his mentor. but in the process of investigating he runs into marta and dion, vampires in disguise investigating the mysterious disappearance of their own leader...

IMMORTALS

i've also spoken about my immortal ocs before! these guys started out as roleplay ocs but have since evolved into a greater canon of their own :]

the idea here is that it's possible to become something other than human -- something immortal -- by making a pact with certain entities. over 400 years ago, this is how oscar transcended his humanity and in the process bound his lover tobias to a cycle of reincarnation. every time tobias dies, he is reborn and oscar scours the earth to find him and restore the memory of his past lives to him and continue their romance. except.... it's not always that simple.

in his current iteration, tobias (a professor) happens to be engaged/married to a woman named alice when oscar comes across him. once it becomes clear that tobias does not intend to split from her naturally, oscar decides to take a more underhanded approach and begins to court one of alice's friends (hilde). despite the fact that alice thinks he's bad news, he says he will only leave hilde alone if tobias returns to his side. after a series of convoluted events, hilde is now a mother of twins (andy and orlando), while alice and tobias have experienced a divorce. oscar, though his goal of wooing tobias failed, is content as long as there is no-one else for him.

while oscar and tobias have their Situation, hilde's children grow up and hear whispers of their father and how he ruined the life of their mother and pretty much everyone in her life too. andy, who sees ghosts, runs away from home as a teen to chase revenge -- which leaves orlando behind to take care of their mother. eventually, with a push from his (only) friend aisling, orlando and andy reunite in a combined effort to find and kill oscar once and for all.

just realised i completely forgot to mention lilith too. she's oscar's sister, they met when he was only newly made immortal. he showed her how to make a pact and take vengeance on her abusers, and she slaughtered them all with her newfound power. their loyalty to each other is unflinching and when fighting together are pretty much impossible to defeat.

ATANI FAMILY

if you've been following me for a while you've probably seen me tag posts as darius or ophelia. Yeah they're from the atani family. technically they're characters from a wider fantasy canon but that project is HEAVILY on the backburner 👍 the atanis however make my brain whir and PARTICULARLY darius so you will probably see me discuss them at length.

there's not a particular plot for them at the moment and i'm famous for putting darius into Situations but some context is probably needed. ophelia atani is the matriarch of the atani family, and the youngest of 4 sisters (iris, faline, orianna & ophelia). despite being the youngest -- and often considered the most ditzy -- she managed to claw her way to power as the house's head and an influential figure in politics.

to this day ophelia has a reputation for being a materialistic and even hedonistic woman whose vanity rules her life. anyone who knows her well will tell you that she has a powerful presence and a strong personality, and to publically disagree with her is at your own peril.

given all of this, it shouldn't surprise you to learn that her marriages tend not to last very long. she divorced her first husband (father of her sons leon and pierre) not long after the birth of her second son, and her third son roman was born a couple of marriages later to her last official partner, gregor. her fourth and final son, darius, is ostensibly also gregor's....but rumours are hard to quell, and people have always gossiped about ophelia and her family.

while ophelia is the undisputed matriarch of the family, her son roman is by far the most popular and well-liked member of the family. a dazzling smile and polite demeanor have built him a reputation as the most personable atani and potentially the future heir to the family's political capital.

but every shining light has its shadow, and roman's shadow is darius. a career man, devoted to paperwork over people, darius has never shared his brother's easygoing charisma or radiant presence. an unimpressed look or a dismissive tilt of the head come far more naturally than smiles or grand, sweeping gestures. while roman rallies the people, darius works behind the scenes. while roman attends galas, darius makes deals that stay under the table.

despite being brothers, there is no love lost between them. raised in a society where competition is encouraged, they use each other to grow more powerful before their enemies can eat them.

this is also the kind of dynamic darius shares with luc, a fellow young aristocrat with a shady reputation. despite his father adrian's reputation as a paragon of justice, luc is a smuggler and supplier of black market goods among the upper echelon of society. he and darius are useful to each other for the time being -- darius grants luc some protection in his endeavours, and in return luc gets his hands dirty so that darius doesn't have to. but a relationship like this between two liars is destined not to last long.

JUSTICE GOLDENLIGHT (19) is a red tiefling assassin who belongs to an assassin's guild run by her father, patience. justice has been honed into a perfect assassin since she was young, and in the wake of her brother benevolence's disappearance she is her father's most valuable tool.

JULIEN ANAIVE (20) is an elven cleric raised by a high priestess of the war goddess. left on the doorstep of the temple and raised as a holy warrior of the temple, jules has always been uncomfortable with the pressure and expectations placed on her by the overbearing high priestess and eventually escapes her control with the power of a holy relic of the war goddess. now she is being chased across the sea by powerful bounty hunters and is forced to not use her magic in order to avoid being tracked.

SETI THE BRIGHT (60s) is an orc paladin, a knight, and the personal bodyguard of princess nebetah of the river kingdom. famous for her powerful deeds during her lifetime, scandal occurs when she is framed for the murder of the king and banished. now, using the name rainier, she is on the hunt for the true culprit so she can return to the side of her beloved wife, the princess.

ISAAC ASTOR (28) is a half-elf arcane trickster with a pied-winged swallow familiar, and technically also a college dropout. raised in comfortable wealth, he coasted through magic school on his own talent until he caught wind of the school board's decision to expel him. in college by this point, he recruits a classmate with a special interest in magic theory (sebastian valentini) to help him develop a more reliable version of a magical technique outlawed for its notorious danger. spoiler alert: isaac dies. their lab explodes and isaacs body is stolen from the scene before the authorities can lock it down.....and he is revived by a mysterious organisation that promises him he can stay alive as long as he promises not to contact his family/friends and completes dangerous tasks for them.

Shadows of Shalott 4/58: “the lady of shalott ii.” by Yiğit Emir Özek // Combyne

Another instrumental piece, and this one… this one is weird.

Generally I was expecting genres for this project to tend toward generic “fantasy” - world music, neo-Celtic, violins, that kind of thing. I knew there’d be at least one industrialish/goth entry, and then Tokyo & the Boy added a hint of Tori Amos, and Ronnie Cox added blues, but all of that is kind of expected from a singer-songwriter-heavy subject.

This… this is “modern movie or prestige drama does 1920s carnival, but it’s haunted”, and I had no choice but to respond accordingly. There is a kind of charm about it - does the Lady in this telling live inside an enchanted house of mirrors? Does she live within the mirrors, and cracking them lets her escape? Is Lancelot a carnival barker a la Liliom? Who knows?

I drew on clowns, sort of. Not quite. I came at the question from an angle, referencing Alice in Wonderland and the pop culture conception of the harlequin figure alongside modern sensibilities and layers (the shoes especially are contemporary) to create the feeling of “the 2020s do the 1920s” - my goal was to have you looking at this and going “cool outfit, would never happen though”. Heavy on the red, with a silhouette I don’t favor, I’d call this a challenge.

“Shadows of Shalott” is a 58-installment project where I curate one outfit per song adapting, based on, or inspired by the Tennyson poem ‘The Lady of Shalott’. Spoken word recordings are exempt, as are covers; the 58 songs I selected are original musical pieces. The tag to track (or block) is “shadows of shalott”.

OMT!Tails: Since there weren't any tags, I thought we'd take the question first to start things off. Sorry in advance that Antho, Brian and Devy couldn't be here for the question. They had some errands to attend to.

Nitro: That's fine. At least Smol Devy managed to get here!

OMT!Tails: Well, as it happens, aside from me idolising Benjamin, my favourite video game character's gotta be Alex Kidd. I really admire the effort he goes to to ensure his dad's safe from harm.

Nitro: Man, I really admire him for being able to do that, even when I couldn't...

OMT!Tails: (comfortingly) Solidarity, buddy.

Nitro: Anyway, if I was to pick between cartoon characters, I'd say I really admire Fluttershy's gentle and all-loving nature, even in the midst of danger. Trust me, you don't wanna be on the wrong end of her bad temper if she gets into one.

D-Sides Mighty: You know, I really dig Spider-Punk and his refusal to abide by society's perceptions and ideals. Reminds me of how my dimension's refusing to stick to a consistent "canon".

BK!Amy: If it's from my favourite anime, I've gotta go with Tohru Honda. I really enjoyed seeing her know that all bad things have to come to an end someday as well.

CR!Sonia: I don't really see much appeal in the cartoon characters that are solely girly and not much else.

CU!Sonia: Ditto. It's why I admire tomboy female characters from cartoons like Lana Loud, who's less enamoured with dresses and prefers activities the guys get up to like skateboarding.

Nitro: Heh, I remember she looks up to Ronnie-Anne a lot back home.

CU!Sonia: Wait, you used to live in the same town she did?

Nitro: Long story. I'll tell you later, if you'd like.

CU!Sonia: Of course!

CU!Sonic: You know, if a character in any of those media is in a healthy relationship with their loved ones, that's all I need to like for them. That, and good character development, of course.

Mr. Needlemouse: Favourite cartoon character? I am a cartoon character! (smug) What more needs to be said about me?

CR!Sonic: To be fair, you did end up on the list of "Top Worst-Behaved Cartoon Characters" recently.

Mr. NM: That again?! Remind me what I did again?

CR!Sonic: Well, blowing stuff up for the heck of it, you and Beeman being as bad as each other, hello?

EX!Alice: You know, I've really found an admiration for Blue Beetle, in a way. Seeing Batman go out of his way to see if he has what it takes to be a hero is such an honour not a lot of people get to experience.

OMT!Mina: I'd say Sam Sharp's my favourite. Rock and roll!

CR!Sonic: My personal favourite game character to this day? It's gotta be Mario! Dude's just saving the day just outta the goodness of his heart, you know?

Mini Sonic: Hmm, let's see... I'll opt for Green Lantern. I mean, come on! He can build anything just with that ring of his!

Wacky: You know, I've found Tintin to be quite the intrepid adventurer in his comics and film, especially when alongside his dog, Snowy.

Hog: What about Cuphead? Does he count?

Wacky: Well, he started as a video game, not a cartoon, though the similarities are there. Plus, he got his own TV show!

Hog: Cool! Where can I see it?

Wacky: Let's see... Ah, bummer. It's behind a Netflix subscription.

Hog: Hmph! If only there was a way to pirate that so I could watch it.

Nitro: I'm sure Lucia will figure out a way later.

Nine: My favourite in anime's definitely that guy from Fist of the North Star. I mean, he's almost unstoppable with those rapid-fire punches and hitting weak points. Omae wa mou shindeiru!

CR!Manik: I'm... gonna pretend I don't know what that means. Dad has really been getting me and Sonia into Wind in the Willows, one of those older British stop-motion cartoons. I particularly find Mr. Toad really hilarious to watch, haha! Poop-poop! The poetry of motion! What about you, Smol Devy?

Smol Devy: Me really likes Ana and Kat! They awesome ninja fwiends!

Trip: Hehe! Glad you're getting on well with them, little guy. I haven't seen a lot of that media before meeting my Team Sonic, but there's something I found appealing about Gromit, Wallace's dog; he's often the one to save the day when all those inventions Wallace makes either go awry or are vandalised by villains.

OMT!Tails: He really is an admirable character, even if he doesn't talk. And there you have it! Thanks for the question, Brendan!

For the "least favourite character" concerning cartoons for me, under the Looney Tunes lot, that title's absolutely going to Pepé Le Pew. Alice trusted Claire to know exactly where the ax should go, because Claire was practical to a fault and no-nonsense when she needed to be. She didn’t fuck around.

“Everybody needs to know at least three exits from each floor and a way down from the second,” Alice agreed. “We should make sure any hiding spots have a disaster kit in them, with snacks and water, in case we need to use them for more than an hour.”

A nail bat—even one created to rightfully deal with Ramsey’s asshole stalking behaviour—was still a red flag.

Alice gave Claire a little look, worried that Ronnie might just disregard them completely if they pushed harder. She followed it with “Put Ramsey on the list of possibles and make sure every sister in the house knows exactly what that snaky little fuck looks like.”

“We’ll have plenty of time to get to know Eric better once this is over. He can show us what a great guy he is, okay?” Alice said to Ronnie. “But we have to get through this first. Sisters stick together.”

She nodded, then paused for a moment. “Tell everyone to bring nail polish remover and whatever empty travel-size spray bottles they have to the meeting. Real nail polish remover, not the non-acetone kind. We can work it all out and make self-defense spray while we do.”

After all, nobody would think twice about sorority girls carrying nail polish remover with them… even if acetone was hell on the eyes and flammable as fuck.

There was a lot to think about and a lot to plan for. Maybe the killer would never even make their way here but Claire wasn't willing to be caught unprepared. Her and her fellow sisters would not fall victim to this guy if she had anything to say about it.

"At least three if not more," she agreed. "When we meet with the rest of the girls, I'm going to have a few of them map out the upstairs for hiding spots and escape routes. Maybe we make a rope ladder of some sort incase the windows are the only option."

Ramsey was definitely a little creep and she was glad he was finally leaving Ronnie alone. However, that still didn't clear Eric in her book. She was still going to keep a suspicious eye on him until this was all over. As her eyes caught Alice's though, she knew they needed to tone their suspicions down in front of Ronnie for her own sake.

"Ramsey goes to the top of the suspect list." She agreed. "As for Eric... We'll see when this is all over. It's like I said, we're not saying he has anything to do with it, we just need to be careful."

Ronnie frowns, knowing Eric was still high on that list and absolutely hating it. She knew he would never do anything like that and she wished her sisters would see that. If he did show up to protect her, she worried what might happen now. Guilty or not, would they even hesitate or hear him out? She might end up having to protect him if she couldn't convince him to stay with his frat brothers after curfew.

"Okay." She says a little quietly before Alice gets back to business. "I think I have some... I don't know if it's got the acetone though." She made a note to check when she got back to her room. "But I do, um, have a taser... My big brother Adrian gave it to me when he saw me off to college. Just incase I needed it."

Specifically her brother worried about creeps like Ramsey. He couldn't be here to protect her either so he gave her something to protect herself. So far she hadn't really needed it because Eric took it upon himself to protect her.

"I have it in a box under a loose floor board in my room."

Notes - Okay I know I said I’d have my Jughead x reader fic out before this but I was so inspired to do this first! Please let me know what you think I really liked this one!

After a while of Betty staying at the trailer on and off, it was always odd whenever she didn’t stay the night. Those were usually the nights that Jughead spent writing, when he wasn’t encased in the secure arms of the blonde goddess he was dating. It gave him the time alone to get fully immersed in his writing and the words that formed on the screen in front of him at every tap of his fingers against the keyboard. Usually he sped through his writing alone; unless he was with Betty or his friends he enjoyed silence so it wasn’t like he wasn’t used to it, though this night he couldn’t seem to write anything. His blank document stared back at him as he pressed his lips against white clenched knuckles, unable to focus. He had been getting an odd feeling all night - one where you just knew something was wrong, and he hadn’t been able to shake it.

Before he could procrastinate any longer his phone buzzed on the coffee table beside his laptop as his ringtone swallowed the silence of the room, and he smiled slightly upon seeing it was his love calling. Before another loop of the obnoxious ringtone could fill the room he pressed answer and held the device against his ear.

“Juggie!” Betty pretty much yelled on the other end, earning a wince from Jughead at the volume, who held it a little away from his ear. “I miss you so much!” She giggled, her speech a little slurred together.

Jughead frowned. She had only meant to be staying at Veronica’s for the night, and it wasn't like the girls would drink together alone at the Pembrooke. “Are you drunk?” He asked anyways.

Betty simply giggled again, and it was then he could hear the generic pop song coming from the receiver as well as Betty’s voice, as well as a mix of conversation from other people. Many other people. “Kinda.” She responded coyly. “I haven’t had much to drink, Juggie, only a little.”

Jughead sighed and rubbed his free hand over his eyes as he leaned back in his seat. “You sound like you’ve had a lot. Are you at Veronica’s still? Can you put her on the phone?”

“Uh, no we’re at-” Betty cut herself off with a hiccup before she continued. “-Reggie’s house but Ronnie’s here!”

A few faint voices could be heard on the line before an almost rustling noise followed, Veronica’s voice soon filing his ear instead. “Jughead listen-”

“Is Betty okay?” He interrupted her as he frowned a little more. Betty had never even drank before, to his knowledge, and now she was drunk at a house party? Reggie Mantle’s house party? Of course he wouldn’t want to get in his girlfriend’s way of having fun, but she sounded pretty out of it when he had spoken to her, and he didn’t want her getting hurt or worse.

“She’s a bit tipsy. And by that I mean B’s absolutely wasted, she sucks at beer pong by the way.” Veronica tutted. “She’s been asking for you for like an hour, she only just found her phone with her coat.”

Jughead inhaled deeply through his nose and tipped his head back against the back of the sofa, trying not to get too annoyed or worried. Betty had wanted him for an hour whilst she was drunk and Veronica hadn’t called to tell him?

“Give me Reggie’s address. I’m coming to get her.”

The thumping of the bass from the generic pop song drummed through the house as Jughead walked into the house, tucking the key’s of his dad’s truck into his jacket pocket. He didn’t even want to risk letting a drunk Betty onto his bike. Too many accidents would be just waiting to happen.

As he pushed through the crowd of dancing and laughing high school students, most of which he recognised from Riverdale High, Jughead couldn’t help but think back to his own sixteenth birthday party that Betty had thrown in his sophomore year. He just hoped that this night didn’t end as horribly.

Surprisingly it didn’t take too long to find Betty in the house full of intoxicated teenagers. After walking through the front of the house he ended up in the kitchen, where Betty and Veronica were alone, spare a couple of other students who were taking shots on the other side of the room. Betty was sat on the counter with a red solo cup in her hands; Veronica stood beside her with her own cup as she laughed away at something. He took in the state of his girlfriend as he crossed the room to meet her, noticing more details as he got closer, the first thing he noticed was the silver and blue dress she was wearing. It was most definitely an item that she didn’t have in her wardrobe - something that Alice Cooper would highly disapprove of if she would have seen her daughter wearing it - so he had to guess the thigh length body-con came from Veronica. The next thing he noticed was her hair; blonde strands let loose over her shoulders and free from the usual ponytail, though it was slightly frizzy and more unkempt than he had seen it before, spare a few life-threatening situations that they had been in.

“Ladies.” Jughead sighed as he got to them, preparing himself for whatever drunken mess he was about to deal with, but he couldn’t help but smile slightly when he watched his girlfriend’s eyes light up when she saw him.

“Juggie! You came!” Betty cheered excitedly, wobbling as she climbed off of the counter before she wrapped her arms around him in a hug.

“Mhm.” He nodded, pressing a kiss to the crown of her head as he moved an arm around her. “We’re going back to mine, okay? You can sleep over.”

As he was speaking to Betty, he noticed over her shoulder as Veronica grabbed her coat and handed it to him, the raven-haired boy mouthing a thank you as he took it from her.

“What?” Betty whined and leaned back to look up at him, causing her to wobble though Jughead tightened his arm around her waist to make sure she didn’t lose her balance and fall backwards. “We can’t go! You just got here!”

“I know, love, but we have to. It’s late and you’ll feel horrible in the morning as it is.” He sighed. “I’ll go out with you next weekend if you really want. Okay?”

Betty looked like she was thinking about it for a moment as she tugged her glossed bottom lip between her teeth, before she just nodded and smiled. “Okay.” She giggled.

Jughead felt her hands slide underneath his unzipped jacket to rest against his sides as she leaned up a little to kiss him. He could smell the alcohol on her breath and could taste it on her lips as he kissed her, though refrained from deepening it any further and leaned his head back when Betty had tried to. She was very drunk and he wasn’t going to take advantage when she was in such a state.

“Come on, love. Let’s get you to bed.” Jughead pressed another kiss to her temple before he pulled away and handed Betty her coat, thanking Veronica as she slipped it on before he splayed his palm against the small of her back and led her out of the house.

“Did you have a good time?” He asked once they were in the quiet of the outside, slipping his arm around her waist when she kept wobbling to the point of worrying him that she would fall.

“Yeah.” Betty giggled and nodded. “Ronnie heard about the party and said we should go and it was-” She hiccuped again. “-really fun! I’m great at the ball game.”

“The ball game?” He tipped his head to the side to look at her as he got the truck keys out of his pocket to unlock the vehicle.

“Yeah! Y’know, the one with all the red cups and you’ve gotta drink the drinks. Cup basketball?”

“You mean beer pong?” Jughead asked with an amused smile.

“Yeah! Cup basketball!” She giggled.

Jughead chuckled and shook his head as he opened the passenger side door for Betty, gently gripping her forearm to help her into the seat and clipped her seatbelt, before he shut the door and joined her on the driver’s side.

“What does this do?” He heard her ask and looked over at her to see her messing with the lever beside her seat that adjusted it.

“It tips your seat back.” Jughead told her, and had to keep from laughing when she yanked the lever and tipped her seat all the way back so she was laying down.

Jughead started the car once he’d looked away from her and buckled his seatbelt, driving away from Reggie’s house soon after. He was surprised to find that the majority of the journey back to the South Side was in silence, with how talkative Betty had been inside, but every time he risked a glance her way she was just staring out of the window and watched the cars pass by their own. At some point she had reached her hand up and made a grabby motion towards his, and he smiled softly as he gently laced his fingers with hers and kept his other on the steering wheel.

“Juggie?” He heard from beside him just as he started driving into the South Side, humming in acknowledgement as he gave her hand a light squeeze. “Did you know that if you close your eyes… if you close your eyes you can’t see.” She giggled, and upon turning to look at her he could see that Betty had her eyes squeezed shut tightly.

“Really?” He asked simply just to amuse her, fondly rolling his eyes as he looked back at the road. “Fascinating.”

“I just blew your mind, didn’t I?” Betty asked and Jughead had to suppress a chuckle as he nodded.

“You sure did, sweetheart. You always do.”

By this point Jughead had pulled into the trailer park and parked the truck beside where his motorbike was, shutting off the engine before he unbuckled his seatbelt. “Let’s get you to bed, okay?” Betty simply hummed in response so Jughead got out of the car and walked around to her side and opened her door for her. She was still just laying down when he had gotten there so he leaned across her to unbuckle her seatbelt before he gently took her hands to help her sit up again.

“Hey!” Betty gasped oncs she’d sat up, a sudden burst of energy filling her. “You live here!” She leaned forwards to point at the trailer though leaned too far forwards and almost fell out of her seat, if it wasn’t for Jughead who had quickly moved his hands to her hips to steady her.

“Easy, love.” He chuckled and helped her out of the truck carefully before he returned his arm around her waist to keep her steady as he locked the vehicle behind him.

Betty stumbled beside him as he helped her up the stairs of the trailer and inside once had the door open, letting it close behind him. His laptop and notes were still strewn messily across the coffee table from earlier in the evening though he gave it no notice as he led his girlfriend through the small space to his bedroom, where she had slept a countless amount of times before.

“Juggie?” Betty giggled in what almost sounded like a sultry tone once they had reached the bedroom, and it caused Jughead to raise his eyebrows at her as he turned his head to look down at her with a hum of acknowledgement.

Betty didn’t return with an audible response, and instead slipped her hands underneath his jacket again as she leaned up to kiss him just like she had done at the party. Though unlike the party she moved her hands to grip the lapels of his jacket and pulled him closer against herself, deepening the kiss before he could pull away. Jughead groaned lowly into her mouth as her teeth nipped at her bottom lip and as much as he didn’t want to, he moved his hands to rest on either side of his face as he pulled away with a sigh.

“Betty, you’re drunk.” He stated with a newly found seriousness that he hadn’t had in the car.

“So?” Betty whined and leaned up on her tiptoes again, only to be met with his hands on her hips to keep her at a slight distance.

“So I’m not going to take advantage of you whilst you’re drunk.” Jughead explained, and watched as she frowned though nodded her head.

He sighed and pressed a kiss to the top of her head before he looked down at her as he took his hands away from her as he slipped his jacket off of his shoulders.

“We’ll get you changed and into bed, okay? Then you can sleep, you must be tired.” He said softly, tilting his head a little as he looked at her.

“I’m not tired.” Betty defended with a giggle and shook her head, though Jughead simply raised his eyebrows at her, his expression screaming I don’t believe you.

“Whatever you say, love, let’s just get you changed anyways okay? That dress can’t be too comfortable.” He lightly brushed his hand across one of the straps before he pulled away from her and walked across the room to grab one of his shirts for her to sleep in.

“It’s Veronica’s.” Betty told him simply as he walked back over to her with the shirt.

“I know, love, it’s not your usual style.” Jughead chuckled and nodded, before he placed the shirt on the edge of his bed and lightly touched her arm. “Need help getting this off?”

“Mhm? There’s a zipper.” Betty nodded. “Just don’t break it because Veronica won’t be too happy.” Betty giggled, and wobbled a little though for the most part she stayed completely still as Jughead moved behind her to unzip the dress and slipped the straps off of her shoulders, letting the material pool at her feet.

“Want this off too?” Jughead asked as he lightly touched the side of her bra, knowing it would just be uncomfortable for her to sleep in though he still wanted to check. He waited for Betty to nod in confirmation before he carefully unclasped the clips and let it drop to the floor with the dress, an action he’d done countless times before, just in a different situation. “Okay, arms up beautiful.” He tapped her upper arm as he grabbed his shirt before he stood back in front of her again, helping her arms through the sleeves once she had held them up before her head through it too, pulling it down so it’d be on her properly.

“Hey this is yours.” She giggled and gestured to the shirt once she had it on, causing him to fondly roll his eyes again as he nodded.

“Yeah it’s mine.” He chuckled, as if he hadn’t been holding the shirt before.

Jughead helped her step out of the dress before he sat her on the edge of her bed, handing her an unopened water bottle that was on his side. “Here, love.” He opened the cap for her before he moved across the room to gather her clothes neatly for her to get the day after.

By the time he’d come back to Betty she’d gulped half of the water and was trying to put the lid back on, which he helped her with when he saw her struggling to do just that. Looking at her expression he couldn’t tell if she was sobering up or not, but she was definitely tired, noted by the dropping of her eyelids every so often before she forced them open again.

Jughead placed the bottle of water on the bedside table before he pulled back the covers and helped Betty get into the bed, her eyelids drooping again as her head hit the pillow. “I’ll be back in a moment, Juliet.” He pressed a kiss against her forehead and watched as she nodded before he pulled the covers up and stepped out of the room for a moment.

After years of dealing with his dad’s drinking, he knew how bad the hangover would be for Betty. And he knew it would probably be worse considering it was her first time drinking. Jughead stepped into the extremely small bathroom of the trailer and turned on the light, ignoring as it flickered as he opened the medicine cabinet and pulled out a pill bottle of Tylenol that hadn’t been used since he needed them after facing the gauntlet. He checked the dosage on the back of the pot just to be sure before he tipped out two into his hand and put the pot back into the cabinet and closed it, shutting off the light as he made his way back into his bedroom.

A soft smile painted across his lips when he saw Betty peacefully asleep, thankful he wasn’t going to have to convince her of that too. He carefully dropped the pills on the bedside table beside the bottle of water before he got changed into his own pyjamas and got into the bed beside her after he shut off the light, not taking too long to fall asleep himself once he’d pulled Betty closer and held her until he drifted off.

He was woken the next morning by a quiet groan in his ear, and blinked a little as he came to his senses. Betty gripped onto his white tank top as she pressed her face against his neck, another quiet groan leaving her lips as she used her free hand to rub the side of her head. Jughead frowned at the state of her, realising she had a headache.

“Hey,” he whispered, and although she didn’t look at him he knew she’d heard him, her head tilting slightly at the sound of his voice. “You okay?”

“No,” Betty whimpered, sounding close to tears, which made him frown a bit more. “It feels like I got hit in the head really hard.”

“I’m sorry love.” Jughead sighed and pressed a kiss to the top of her head before he pulled away from her just enough to reach up and grab the bottle and Tylenol. “Take these.”

Betty turned her head and sat up to take them, her eyebrows knitted together as she sat up properly. “Thank you.” She mumbled as she put the pills in her mouth, having some water to swallow them before she placed the water back down as she sighed and rubbed her temples with her palms.

Jughead laid back into the bed and held his arm out for her to settle into, smiling softly once she was pressed against his side and in his arms. His arm curled around her waist to bring her closer as his free hand lifted up to brush some loose blonde strands out of her eyes, the action causing her eyes to flutter shut. “Do you remember any of last night?”

“Some of it.” Betty whispered in response, opening her eyes back up to look at him as she moved one of her arms around his waist to stay even closer to him. “It’s all a bit fuzzy. I don’t remember getting into bed.” She sighed and shook her head before she winced. “I didn’t say anything stupid, did I?”

“No,” Jughead shook his head as he started smirking a little. “But hey, did you know that if you close your eyes you can’t see?” He asked teasingly and chuckled.

Betty groaned as she hid her head against his neck again, causing him to laugh a little more. “I’m sorry.” She whined.

“It’s fine, love, it was pretty funny.” He chuckled.

“No, I’m sorry about all of it.” Betty clarified, and this time Jughead’s expression softened a little.

“It’s nothing, love. I wasn’t just going to leave you at Reggie’s place alone and drunk.”

“Yeah but…” Betty trailed off and sighed, something that kept Jughead’s attention as he waited for her to form the words. “I know what you went through with your dad drinking and I’m sorry I was like that, I shouldn’t have called you in the first place it was stupid of me, I-“

“Hey hey hey,” Jughead cut off her rambling with a gentle hand on the side of her face, guiding her eyes up to meet his. “You don’t need to apologise, sweetheart. You and my dad are completely different things, okay? It didn’t bother me.” He explained, and watched as she visibly relaxed at his answer.

“Okay.” She sighed and smiled in relief.

“I love you, I’ll always be there to take care of you.” Jughead smiled and leaned down to lightly kiss her for a long moment, feeling warm at the soft expression on her face once he’d pulled away.

“I love you too.” Betty whispered and nodded. “Thank you for coming to get me.”

“It’s no problem, love.” Jughead shook his head, pressing his lips against her forehead. “Any time.”
