P.S., while I'm here, kind of a PSA and the only time I'll make it: I cannot stress enough that Ed is very deliberately and painstakingly coded as neurodivergent and mentally ill and if you write with me, you need to respect that.

And I don't mean the ableist impulse of "WOO HOO cray-cray stabby pyro cap'n Blackbeard, what a nut amirite!" I mean the man, as Taika Waititi plays him and David Jenkins writes him, is legitimately profoundly struggling with acute trauma and s*icidal ideation, while ALSO struggling to overcome more than 50 years of maladaptive coping techniques. Since Jenkins et al have (imho very cleverly) elected to frame the narrative more as an ahistorical allegory of found family and queer belonging that just happens to take place on the high seas with colonial-era pirates, they therefore allow characters to be aware of their own feelings and cognitive processes in the way that we are (in the 21st century). This means modern diagnostics apply. So, like. Y'all.

Ed has ADHD.

He has an Attachment Disorder (probably Avoidant, but I'm still thinking).

He has C-PTSD,

and he probably has either RSD (with the ADHD) and/or Bipolar II Disorder.

These disorders are real and they are hell to cope with (I only have two on the list myself, and I find it almost completely debilitating sometimes), and despite the modern self-awareness and the modern lingo, Ed still lives under conditions that make self-diagnosis near-impossible. He made a major effort in the Divorce Robe with the feelings-sharing then lost the battle with himself. This is one reason Stede is so good for him. So how does my blog come into all this?

I still ship Blackbonnet. Yes, even more than Stede x Izzy, despite its own understandable appeal. Yes, definitely more than Ed x Izzy (unhealthy in a way that's just not my jam--do it if it's fun for you, it just won't happen here). I will probably filter tags for those ships, in fact, for personal reasons. It's a bit frustrating. People turned on Stede too fast for my taste in s1 and I think they've turned on Ed too fast in s2. These two are learning how to be better as middle-aged closeted queer men (one also from poverty and BIPOC). Let 'em make (big) mistakes. Which leads to the next point.

I'm not going to dilute or make light of the awful things Ed did in "Red Flags," but I'm also not going to engage with any part of the OFMD rpc that permanently condemns him. I've spent the past 15+ years writing controversial, complex muses and doing the thankless work of defending them to people who are committed to misunderstanding and contempt. And uh. Well. As I enter a new decade of life, I'm just no longer equipped (or interested). So if I see signs of that, I'll just quietly disengage.

This isn't the same ofc, as answering meta questions to the best of my ability; media analysis is still My Thing™. I just hope y'all can catch the distinction. I don't want to be a character's constant "defense attorney" anymore. People have the right to hate him, and they can go ahead while I continue, in my space, not to.

I do not take any NSFW questions or prompts on the blog (unless I state so & specifically ask for them). I’m not comfortable with unsolicited, anonymous NSFW questions/messages. However, the game is 18+ and there are already explicit scenes within the game - I understand people will probably be making explicit content, and I have no problem with that. I also have no problem with genuine questions about the sexual content within the game. In general, I try to keep the blog SFW but I may occasionally reblog mild NSFW/nudity and I will tag it as such.

10. Do you do RO reacts?

Not really. They are time consuming and generally the prompts are OOC or do not align with the tone of the story. Occasionally, I may reblog prompt lists here and will accept them for a brief window of time but otherwise I do not typically respond to these asks.

Another day at NRC. Another day. Calypso was busy counting the dust particles on the ceiling of her bedroom, like she’d been doing for the past few days. She’d finally managed to land a few friends of her own, but she still felt just a little alienated in this new world.

“Maybe a’notha walk won’t hurt. Might meet someone new…” she mumbled to herself as she prepared to wander around campus until something interesting happened.

That’s what she usually did, anyway. Wandered around until someone stumbled onto her path or she stumbled onto theirs.

She whistled softly to herself as she aimlessly walked around, ignoring the stares she got from various students.

She must’ve been too caught up in her own world, since she was only brought back to the present when she bumped into someone, sending them stumbling.

“Oh! Sorry ‘bout that, hun…. Let me help ya up!”

Calypso extended her hand to the poor soul she had knocked over, pulling them back onto their feet.

“You alright?”

Kiyuu was on their way to Pomefiore to find Aros, fiddling with a pocket mirror while touching up their makeup. They wanted to ask him about his skincare, since they weren't sure how the difference in environments should be changing their routine.

As Kiyuu lifted the pocket mirror into her line of sight and began to apply some lip gloss, they suddenly crashed into someone else, causing them to stumble, one of their hair ties getting caught on their sleeve and untying itself, and their lip gloss smudging off of their lips and onto their cheek.

"Ah- shoot-!"

Kiyuu yelped as they fell, their pocket mirror clattering to the ground. They hastily moved to pick it and the hair tie back up, putting the mirror into her pocket before looking up, registering the voice of the person that they had bumped into.

"I'm so sorry! I should have been paying more attention... Thank you, though."

They responded, a little bashfully, grabbing onto the hand that was reached out to them, and pulling themselves back up to their feet. They steadied themselves, then padded a finger over their cheek, trying to work out how much lip gloss had smudged, before wiping some of it off with their finger, and sighing quietly.

They tilted their head to the side, bringing a hand up to retie the wisp of hair as they spoke.

"I'm okay though- don't worry! Are you?"

Hello everyone, happy Saturday! ❤️

As we’ve said before, and we’ll continue to say a million times over, the both of us want Blue Harbor to be as welcoming as it possibly can be. Inclusion is a very serious goal of ours that we strive for every single time that we log onto the dash each day, both as admins and players. At the same time, we understand that a lot of the heavy lifting in that department comes down to you guys, our members — which is why we want to first and foremost thank every single one of you for all of the work you’ve put into helping this goal of ours come to fruition, giving us the opportunity to house your beautiful muses in the process. We wouldn’t be going two months strong (and counting!) without you guys!

That being said, we want to make sure that each and every one of you has fun, feels appreciated, and is heard most of all. Which is why we’d like to put out a few reminders in light of some feedback that we’ve already received re: inclusivity, for old and new members alike to ensure that we're all on the same page!

In terms of on-dash activity, we enforce a strict no bubbling policy. Per our guidelines, we require that all members each week reply to three different muns in order to pass our activity check, and ideally the three muns whom you interact with per character will be switched out whenever possible! We feel fortunate in that we do not see an issue with this actively occurring here, however, it's always good to interact with a wider range of members than usual. For your next threads, try and switch things up! 

As a continuation, please continue to utilize our STARTER BLOG and reply to any opens that need a little more love if you have the time / thread space! In general, a good habit to keep is replying to two open starters before posting your own so that nobody feels ignored.

In terms of OOC activity, we want to remind everyone to continue to put your best foot forward when it comes to reacting to calls and plotting. Branch out and react to somebody you may not have interacted with before, offer up your best ideas and apply as much effort as you can when fleshing out character dynamics, etc etc! If anybody feels as though they are struggling in this aspect, as we’re no strangers to struggling sometimes ourselves, we’ve found two lovely guides on plotting written by fellow RPC members that may be of some help! In general, have fun! Writing on a platform like this is a truly wonderful hobby and we can't express enough how awesome it has been getting to share it with every single one of you over the course of the past two months! We've been having an amazing time witnessing all of your enthusiasm and we hope you have been too!

POLICY REMINDERS

Hello everyone!

It's been a while since we've last made one of these, but as we've had some new members and, unrelated, we've been seeing some mistakes made repeatedly, we just wanted to make a post to touch on some of our policies and expectations!

MASTERLIST

When sending a message, make sure you include all information relevant to the type of ask you're sending! You can find all of the relevant information under the related sections of the forms page!

If you are reapplying with a character who had personal housing during their previous stay and would like them rehoused in that housing on acceptance, please make sure to include that request in your application ask along with the name of that housing and how many bedrooms it had.

If your account has yet to be accepted by the masterlist, please do not follow the masterlist! Wait until your acceptance message has been posted first.

APPLICATIONS

Please keep in mind that the ABOUT section on your application must be at least three sentences, and the PERSONALITY section must be at least ten (fifteen for original characters).

Make sure to include your CANON DOUBLE section as well as whether you do or do not permit them. If you need a refresher on what does or doesn't count as a canon double, please look at this post!

If you have two characters that you would like to apply on the same blog (like a character and their vocal animal companion), all you need to do is make two application pages and link them on your blog! Doing this will take two slots, and both characters will require their own unlocks however!

GALAXY BLOG SUBMISSIONS

When ranking up, making a purchase, or claiming an event reward through the Galaxy blog, please make sure to include where on your blog we can find your threads and / or Star count. Usually you can just let us know what to add to the end of your URL to access that page (like "/tracker" for example).

If you are requesting an unlock for your character, please make sure to be as clear and concise as possible about what you'd like unlocked or upgraded! This lessens the chance of your ask being sent back for clarification!

TAGS

We have two tags for open posts (posts anyone can reply to): "#isola mini" and "#isola open"! The mini tag is for short opens ranging from a sentence to two paragraphs. Anything longer than that should be tagged with the open tag!

Rather than constantly adding new posts to the mini and open tags, we ask that you check out the tag yourself to see if anything that is already in there that you could reply to first. These tags only work if the posts placed inside actually get replies!

Likewise, posts in these tags should not be personal starters. If your starter is for a specific character, please tag them and don't place the thread in one of these tags.

We also have two tags for getting interest in threading: '#isola rp ad' and '#isola perm call'. The regular RP ad tag is self explanatory, where you like it and someone will make you a starter! The perm call tag is used when you're looking for specific or long term interactions that may be pre-plotted.

General etiquette for liking regular rp ads includes not liking over cap (if the post says they're capping it at 3 likes and it already has 3, don't like it) and not liking ads that are weeks old unless the mun has indicated they're okay with either!

OTHER

Please make sure that all NSFW content is both tagged and placed under a readmore. This not only includes sexual content, but also content that may be considered sensitive like gore.

You're only allowed to make three OOC posts in a single sixty minute period. This includes general OOC posts, RP ads, and image reblogs among others! The exceptions to this rule are during Meme Fridays, Mundays, or if the account is new and just setting up!

While we encourage member run events like dances and parties for the characters to attend between official group events, we ask that you ask the masterlist for permission first and only post this event after receiving permission for scheduling reasons! We could be running an event soon or another member might be running one, after all!

Very Vague Analysis of "Javert t'es amoureux" interpreted by Jean Vallée

I wrote a shitpost about it some days ago and @aftershocked 's comment made me want to develop on it, about why the lyrics are supposed to convey a metatextual message about the actor playing Javert (here, Jean Vallée). + Thoughts on why I think it's incredibly funny that they chose to make Javert a hopeless romantic and we all went 'ah! he is gay!' (as we should). I apologize if I'm just stating the obvious btw I'm not the smartest person in the room. Also, I read this before and I thought it was a good translation and I will use some of their previous interpretation, so credits to: https://www.kellycatalfamo.com/blog/2017/9/3/javert-tes-amoureux (thank you again, aftershocked, because i never saw this post before you mentioned it!).

1 — Javert is Jean Vallée.

No kidding, Jean Vallée is the first one to interpret Javert in Boublil's and Schönberg's musical in 1980. But then it does make sense for Vallée to write a song about himself as Javert, as he is transcended by his love for the character and the role (we'll get back to that).

There is definitely a play with the use of "Je" and "Tu". Who is je in this song? It's not obvious from the start. The first line might suggest the speaker is Javert directly ("Moi, le lecteur invétéré du Code Civil et du Code Pénal") yet this Je is accusing Javert, the Tu, in the chorus, which leave a doubt of the identity of this speaker. (You could definitely argue that it would not be out-of-character for Javert to talk to himself, on the contrary. Lol.)

Moreover, kellycatalfamo mentions that Javert actively reading is ooc, and this is also an element that makes me think that Vallée is mainly the one talking in the song, making the character he's supposed to play doing things he would not do otherwise : "What I took from this is that Vallée is not simply describing Javert reading the advice column in bed -- a VERY non-Javert-like activity -- but describing Javert suddenly realizing this uncharacteristic thing he's doing ... and continuing to do it".

According to me, Jean Vallée is trying to be Javert, to incarnate Javert, but he fails, and loses his balance and skills as he tries to act like the character again (reading the Code Civil, keeping his cool, seeing the world only in black and white, etc.).

2 — Vallée is trying to get back into his role.

So, in kellycatalfamo's translation, the original french lyrics is "redeviens moins si vieux" in the second chorus, but I'm sure it's a mistake and the lyric is actually "redeviens moins sérieux" (= "become less serious again"). Vallée castigates himself because he slipped out of his role, talking to both himself and the Javert he tries to make out of himself (use of the imperative).

"C'est impossible, venez à mon secours et rendez-moi inaccessible" = There is an urgent need to get back into his role, for Vallée, and suddenly, he is not Javert anymore and asks help to the other actors around him. He wants to be unattainable, in the sense Javert is (as a fictional character existing only on paper) but also from his own feelings, attacking him from the outside, the real world (the théâtre being traditionally a closed space, existing on its own and according to its own rules and codes).

"Ce roman policier, cette série noire, qui t'a incarcéré le cœur" = The roman policier in France was mostly invented by Balzac, huge inspiration for Romantics like Hugo, so perhaps it isn't as much of a reach to assume that, here, Vallée is referencing to the novel Les Misérables and the effects it had on his "heart". If we're seeing it like that, then he means that he is submerged, overwhelmed, by his own love for the original material—Javert is thus in love by proxy, through his interpret's own adoration for the text.

"Je veux rentrer dans mon théâtre, continuer d'être misérable par contrat et par devoir" = oooh again, Jean-Pierre Virgil is so smart! At this point, Javert completely disappear behind his interpret. The theater, locus where he, Javert, exists on his own; locus where Vallée, amorous, desperately wants to come back. Moreover, the double sense of this line: Javert continues to be miserable because of his characteristic sense of duty and justice, contracted he is to the law like a dog to its master; but it could also be about Vallée's contract with Hossein, Boublil, Schönberg, as a profesional actor, and the sense of artistic duty he feels to do Javert's character right on the scene. (Again, where does Vallée start, where does Javert finish...)

"Je crois qu'on est hier alors qu'on est déjà ce soir" = The most strange lyric to me so far. I picture Vallée standing on the théâtre's scene, taken aback because he thought he still had time to revise his lines, but he doesn't, because he's already performing and he has to get back in the role. I think this line shows how he is losing his self within the text, whether or not it's the novel or the script, and his love for the role.

"Pardonnez monsieur Victor, si je sors du bouquin, je n'en peux plus, mon amour est trop fort" = Finally, the most obvious lol, I should've start there I'm sorry. It's written on the thin here. Vallée is completely out of his role and expresses his love for the original material to the author—and yet! It could also be Javert himself, coming out the book. In french, "sortir de" can also mean "to slip out of something", metaphorically speaking.

3 — Javert in the Brick.

Finally, to some extent, I think it is also a song about Javert Déraillé. My guess is that Jean-Pierre Virgil and Jean Vallée wanted to make Javert sympathetic to the public, give him some romantic sensibility, and since the musical's motif is a lot centered around love, it makes sense. Although, I don't think they realize the way they portrayed Javert as a homosexual, because, if not Jean Valjean, who else Javert might be in love with LOL. My favorite lyrics that might imply Valvert are "Toi qui ne voulais regarder la télé pas autrement qu'en noir ou blanc, voilà que tu trouves qu'il manque de couleurs" > to me, this is an obvious reference to how Jean Valjean completely destroys Javert's vision of the world. Also, a reference to the french lyrics in Javert's Soliloquy: "noir ou blanc, hors-la-loi ou dedans; noir ou blanc, c'est Javert ou Valjean".

Anyways, I love how Vallée insults Javert in the song, as if aware that being in love is uncharacteristic of him, yet is happening ("pauvre vieux con de flic" and "bravo le clown" never fail to make me laugh. I always call Javert a clown because of this song lol).

Hm. I am enthusiastically open to discussion and I apologize if I wrote a way too long post about something everyone in the fandom already knew about. I just love this song so much.

The main events that happened to him during the RP:

His left arm was torn off and now a metal prosthesis is in its place.

He died of blood loss at one point, but he was resurrected.

On his way to work, he got through the portal to the island of wizards , where he is now.

Magical abilities:

In his basic form, he has only one ability to become stronger if his opponent has done a lot of bad (according to his moral compass) things.

In an enhanced form, at first, he can conjure garlic bread, but after 21 minutes and if his opponent is bad enough, he can start doing other magic. He will also learn how to hit with holy damage!

Weapon:

He used to use a shovel as a weapon. But now, his shovel has been turned into a bisento, which can release liquid nitrogen from the blade under very high pressure

Description:

Mr. Zer0 is a man, 35 years old. He always wears a white suit, which consists of: boots, socks, jeans, shirt, jacket, belt, gloves and hat. His height is 183 centimeters, and his weight is 67 kilograms. Recently, he has enhanced his suit with angel wings, allowing him to use holy damage more effectively and launch a feather-shaped homing projectile. If he hits the target with his feather, he can teleport at will, at a distance of 1.27 meters from the target.

Before I say anything else I want to make it clear that I have so much respect for you Lost and I love your blog so much it's very precious to me but I want to be honest for once. I am an Eruri shipper, the reason why I am here in the first place, but before that I'm an Erwin fan and have always been and the amount of hate he gets is increased dramatically recently. And I mean of course twitter where the fans interact directly more than tiktok, tumblr or instagram. And the reason Erwin gets all that hate is because of this fandom. I don't say this on twitter or anywhere else because I am very shy but that's how I feel and I am pretty sure this will be seen as Eruri hate. But Eruri fandom on twitter is very much different and way bigger than here on tumblr. And they are very vocal. Most of the time it's fun, banter, jokes and things like that. But a part of the fandom is very vocal about their dislike for every other ship. They literally won't let anyone ship Erwin with Mike or Levi with others, especially Hange. They always mock Levi's fangirls and honestly, I don't appreciate how they talk about Levi (like something to be owned and only belongs to Erwin) or how often they insult other characters like Mike or Hange or "getting in the way of their ship". This isn't a problem for me personally because I am in the Eruri fandom and I choose who I interact with, I have an idea of who to follow and who to mute. But a regular person who doesn't ship Eruri doesn't know about that they often see those takes or jokes and this is one of the main reasons (apart from serum bowl) that Erwin gets so much hate. I would be pissed off, too if people always talked about Erwin like a guard dog or someone to be owned or a mindless lovesick idiot. I honestly forget why I like this ship when I see so ooc takes about them and I need to go back to manga to remember why. And I honestly don't understand why everyone is so defensive when another character's fan talks about this issue. Just because we like the same thing doesn't mean we are one, I am not responsible of other Eruris actions and it's okay to admit that there is a good amount of toxic Eruris. Just like any other ship. These days it feels like a big part of Eruris on twitter are very nice to Erwin for completely wrong reasons and mischaracterizing him and often cause the hate he receives. And I know you will probably disagree with that and it's okay but please don't take this the wrong way it'd kill me if you called me a hater or anything bad like that. I'm just a little frustrated with the fandom, every time I see an Erwin tweet I can't help it and click on it and oops it's once again started with an Eruri tweet mocking others or Levi or Hange or other ships whatever. It's getting worse than Armin stans to be honest.

So I have a policy of not responding to “I’m an Eruri but…” asks because they tend to be disingenuous at best, and outright abusive at worst*  I’m going to make an exception this time though, because I’ve had a number of asks like this. 

First of all, every fandom has fans who prefer arguing with other shippers rather than enjoying their own ship and the Eruri fandom is no exception.  There has always been a small minority of Eruri fans who are vocal in their dislike for other ships and characters and who seem to revel in provoking drama.  The fandom is far from unique in that respect, every fandom I’ve ever encountered has its fair share of troublemakers.  I’ve lost count of the number of fans I’ve blocked from every corner of the SnK fandom over the years.  If someone is starting shit, I don’t want them on my timeline. 

Here’s the thing though, I keep getting anonymous asks from people freaking out about all the drama and hate in the Eruri fandom, and I honestly don’t know where that’s coming from, because I’ve seen very little of it.  Certainly there are fans who hate other ships and characters, they're just a fact of life in fandom. I’ve got a particularly persistent “Anon” in my inbox right now who clearly dislikes Hanji.  I’m studiously ignoring them because a) I’m not interested in airing ship or character hate unless it’s Zeke; and b) they are very much in the minority.  I’ve been in the Eruri fandom for 8 years and I can probably count on one hand the number of Eruri fans I’ve met who hate Hanji. Quite the opposite in fact.  90% of the Eruri fics I’ve ever read feature Hanji as Erwin or Levi’s beloved best friend or wingman. Similarly, I have never seen anyone saying that you can’t ship Erwin and Mike.  Really?? I used to write extremely smutty Mikeru / Mikeri / Mikeruri fics but I’ve never heard so much as a peep of complaint. In fact one of my Mikeruri fics is my third most popular fic with almost 20K hits. 

Now, I’m not so naive as to think that drama doesn’t exist just because I haven’t seen it.  I probably spend more time on twitter than I do on tumblr, but I’ve got a comprehensive block list which means I avoid most of the bullshit.  However I usually pick up on the aftermath of any drama because people I follow tend to talk about it. What I have seen recently is people complaining about one or more trolls who are leaving abusive comments on AO3 and Curious Cat, and I’ve also seen fans getting abuse for fundraising for charities.  Doesn’t get much lower than that tbh. With one or two notable exceptions, who I’ve now muted, I haven’t seen large numbers of Eruri fans mocking other shippers and belittling Levi and other characters. So you’ll understand my confusion about your ask.  Perhaps the hate is real and I’ve just missed it.  Perhaps this has become a self-perpetuating rumour. Perhaps there’s something more disingenuous going on.  If you could give me more concrete examples of this bad behaviour, which is apparently rife in the fandom, I might be able to formulate a more nuanced response.  As it stands, I honestly don’t know how you want me to reply to this ask Anon. You’ve said that how the Eruri fandom behaves isn’t a problem for you and that you choose who to mute and who to interact with, but from what you’ve said here, it sounds like this is a problem for you.  I hate to break it to you Anon, but if that’s the case, it’s not a problem I can solve. 

I have no doubt this reply will provoke another flood of Anon hate, all of which will be ignored and deleted. That’s pretty much my last word on the matter. 

* If you think this is an exaggeration, here’s the most recent “I’m an Eruri but” ask I got just a couple of weeks ago.  This shit isn’t new, it’s been going on for years.

I should have made this post at the start of the year, but between the holidays first and working double shifts later (and now), I never got around to doing it till tonight.

I made sure to include everything in this post, so you guys won't have to jump around to check my pages, so please, make sure to read it.

RULES CHANGES

Interactions: Be interested in at least TWO of my muses, or at least be open to try and interact with a couple of the others, outside your chosen one. This way I'll be able to keep interacting with you, even if I were to lose inspiration for one of the characters you have chosen.

Matching effort: I've said this a few times, but this year I've started to apply this rule. I match the energy and the interest I receive. This goes for sending memes and asks (IC and OOC), offering ideas for plots, carrying on the scene in a thread, and so on. I will also try and reach out first more (even if it might take a while because I'm socially super awkward). However, if the effort remains completely one-sided for weeks, I'm here because I want to interact with people, but I'm tired of spending my time and energy on people who don't want to interact with me, even if they say they want to.

On the other hand, I'll be more open to brief shenanigans, dash commentary and events-related threads.
