Can I just ramble on about the color symbolism in the Ace Attorney series?

Spoilers for like all games in the franchise under the cut

We all know the classic "Phoenix is dressed in blue and Miles in red" trope. Showing that they are opposites and yet fit together perfectly because of that contrast.

But I've yet to see anyone talk about how when you include the full trio with Larry, from their childhood on they are the primary colors. Meaning they are all different and yet all fit together in a certain way!

Or how the Von Karmas all have a blue motive going on and how Miles' court debut outfit has that splash of blue with it to show his connection to the Von Karmas while still keeping red as his primary color and showing how different he is from them.

Or how Maya wears purple, the color that's right between blue and red, showing how she's in between both Phoenix and Miles and plays an important part in both their lives.

Same with Pearl and her lighter pink colors. Showing how she has a connection to Maya but is still her own person.

And then there is Apollo! Oh boy Apollo!

Like how Phoenix and Miles have opposite colors, Apollo has his strong bright red and Kristoph has his light periwinkle/lavender colors showing just how different they really are. And Klavier's weird maroon/dark fuchsia colors are kinda an in-between of Apollo's and Kristoph's colors and it shows his connections to both of them.

And then Athena joins the team and with her the entire law group of the WAA is once again the primary colors! And Athena wearing all bright yellow (which is the most noticeable color on the spectrum) being a contrast to Simon's black and white.

Oh and you thought I was done with Apollo? THINK AGAIN! BECAUSE NOW WE BRINGING IN TRUCY! With Polly and Trucy once again having a red blue parallel going on, only this time it's cause they are half-siblings!!! And that doesn't stop there cause Trucy's colors also reflect Phoenix and how she is his daughter but also Thalassa's daughter cause Thalassa is also associated with blue. And at first Trucy was wearing pink to go with her own father but changed it to said blue to match her knew father.

And Thalassa also having a blue red theme going on with her being the blue themed one and both her husbands; Jove and Zak, being red themed and once again showing parallels between each other!!!!

And even in SoJ the themes keep going!!! With Nayhuta having a similar color pallet to that of Kristoph, paralleling once again Apollo. And Yuty's color theme is also paralleling that of his mother; Amara and how Rayfa is paralleling her father Dhurke! And Dhurke's blue tones once again paralleling both Apollo and Jove.

And you thought I'm done again? Ooohhohho you are still so wrong cause then we still have the Skye sisters to talk about. How both Lana and Ema have some red/pink themes going on but Lana is all tinted in dark colors and shades of dark red while Ema is all in pastel and pink and brighter colors. And then Ema gets older and becomes a detective and she gets tints of green in her design- and you know who else has a green theme? GUMSHOE!! OUR MAIN DETECTIVE GUY!!!

And Kay in the investigation games has a blue pink theme going on being similar to Maya in that she is wearing two colors of opposite that merge into one, shaping how she is affecting Miles' life and those around her. Or how Simon K and Horace have another pink turquoise theme going on shaping their parallels and history.

AND SEBASTIAN!!! HIS BLUE RED COLOR THEME ALREADY CONTRASTING HIMSELF IS SUCH A GOOD CHOICE. With the red being a parallel to both Miles and him as a prosecutor but also his father Blaise and their history and speaking of Blaise: we know he has history with Manfred and it's assumed that they also worked together with Damon Gant.

And you wanna know what? YOU REALLY WANNA KNOW??? THOSE THREE TOGETHER HAVE THE PRIMARY COLORS AGAIN!!!

And then there's even the GAA games but dear god I'm not gonna get into that one other than how Ryu and Kazuma both started out with the dark black colors, with Kazuma being red adjacent and Ryu having that blue theme going on again (in his DLC bonus outfit at least) and how later on they still have the tiny hint of red/blue but now with black and white. JUST LIKE THE JURY SYSTEM IN THAT GAME. IT'S ALL CONNECTED GUYS!!!

Random thought because one of my mutuals put them on my dash:

A lot of things about Haya being erased pissed me off, but the biggest thing is the fact that they gave their entire storyline to Josie in season 3.

According to DRR the writers told her that Hope needed to “take a step back to let other characters shine” so they had her off at Mystic Falls High at the beginning of the season away from the rest of the main cast. Hope was likely supposed to be there for at least the first half of the season, have a romantic relationship with Maya (and Ethan but we don't care about his boring ass), and get a chance at a normal high school life after her traumatic experience in Malivore.

Instead they cut that storyline short because they wanted to focus on Dark Josie and Kai, a plot that didn’t involve Hope in the slightest? There was no reason whatsoever to cut Hope's storyline at MFH and send her back to the SBS. Landon dumping Josie for Hope was played as one of the conflicts that pushed Josie farther down her dark path, but I feel like they didn't need Hope/H@ndon back in the picture so quickly to do that.

Otherwise, Hope spent the rest of season saving the other characters, from situations they could've solved without her interference. Aside from going inside of Josie’s head and giving her words of encouragement, which was at the very end of the season, Hope did nothing of importance in s2 at the SBS to warrant trashing a potentially interesting storyline for her that could’ve added to her character development outside of being the tribrid or being Klaus daughter.

Then, the very next season they basically copy and paste that storyline for Josie. Hope/Josie goes through something dark and traumatic (Being trapped in Malivore/Being manipulated by Clarke) —> Hope/Josie decides to go to MFH as an attempt to get a change of scenery and heal —> Hope/Josie meets a brown, dark haired lesbian wolf (I’m pretty sure it was teased by the actress that played Maya that Maya would find out that she’s a wolf) on her first day there and romance sparks —> Hope/Josie starts up a friendship with Ethan —> Hope/Josie is encouraged to do more human high school things by Maya/Finch and Ethan.

Then to run salt in the wound, they said that Maya had a crush on Josie?? Their one and only interaction was Maya beating her ass, which was followed by her later crying in Hopes arms because Josie ruined Maya’s brother’s chances at winning a college scholarship by breaking his hand. That one off line just felt like one of Brett’s many attempts to erase Hopes bisexuality for the sake of H@ndon.

Repurposing Hopes storyline to give to another character that previously had the biggest storyline of the season only to have Hope be pretty much stagnant for 2 seasons straight was ridiculous and a major sabotage to Hopes character.

Adapting to New York wasn't easy for Mabel. The apartment was completely different from everything she was used to in Paris; the streets were busier, the people more hurried, and every corner of the city brought a new challenge. After a week of reorganizing her new home and adjusting Maya and Levi's routine, Mabel had her first meeting and photoshoot at the agency. She met the models she would be working with, and among them was Jayden, her main partner. His beauty was undeniable, drawing everyone's attention, but for Mabel, it was still superficial. Her heart still bore the remnants of her relationship with Anthony, and she struggled against the memories.

"Hey, Mabel! How about going to a bar after we finish the session? It would be great for us to get to know each other better!" suggested Livia, with Amanda and Cecilia smiling beside her.

Mabel smiled, but her eyes were distant. "That would be amazing, girls, but I'll have to pass today. It's the first time I'm leaving Maya and Levi with a babysitter, and I'm a bit worried. Can we schedule it for next week? I'm still getting used to having a babysitter and would like to feel a bit more confident before leaving my kids alone with her."

"Of course! We go out almost every day after work, so feel free to join us anytime!" Livia said enthusiastically.

Mabel was delighted with her job. It was something she had always loved, and she felt happy to be dedicating herself wholeheartedly. Despite the exhaustion and the doubts that sometimes made her think about quitting, she didn't allow herself to give up. As the weeks passed, Mabel finally felt more confident about leaving Maya and Levi with the babysitter for a while. She decided to go out to a bar with her friends.

That night, Mabel had fun like she hadn't in a long time. She danced, laughed, and realized how much she needed that moment without even knowing it. Close to three in the morning, already tired and a bit dizzy from the drinks, she moved away from the dance floor to rest, watching her friends, still full of energy.

"Could I have two glasses, please?" a deep, captivating voice sounded behind her, addressing the bartender. The sound piqued her curiosity, making her turn around. She found herself face-to-face with an incredibly attractive man, looking at her with a playful smile.

"Would you like one of the glasses?" he asked, his eyes fixed on hers.

"Yes, I would," Mabel replied, smiling. "My name is Mabel."

"Erick," he replied, extending his hand. "The pleasure is all mine, Mabel."

They began to talk, exchanging glances and light flirtations, a subtle dance of words that drew them closer. Erick made Mabel laugh and forget, at least for a moment, her worries and uncertainties. He had a charming and confident manner that piqued her curiosity.

"Mabel, are you always here?" Erick asked, leaning in closer.

She laughed. "Actually, this is my first time. I'm trying to adapt to New York."

"Well, I hope that adaptation is more fun now," he said, winking.

The next day, at the agency, Mabel was preparing for a special photoshoot.

As the photoshoot began, Jayden, her scene partner, took every opportunity to get closer to Mabel. His glances and smiles became increasingly bold, and he clearly didn't hide the interest he felt for her. Mabel, no matter how hard she tried, couldn't ignore the magnetism between them. Jayden’s presence was intense, almost palpable, and it left her feeling slightly uncomfortable but also curious.

Between shots, Jayden leaned closer to her and whispered with a smile on his lips, "How about going out to dinner after this session? I know an incredible place nearby."

Mabel looked at him, surprised by his boldness. "You don't waste any time, do you?" she teased, trying to keep the tone light but feeling her heart beat a little faster.

"I just don't like missing opportunities," he replied, his blue eyes fixed on hers, a confident expression crossing his face. "And I think this is an opportunity worth taking."

Mabel hesitated for a moment, feeling both insecurity and a growing curiosity. "Let's see how the rest of the session goes, Jayden. If I still have the energy, maybe," she replied, smiling.

Jayden laughed, pleased with her answer. "I'll do my best to make sure you have the energy for dinner, then."

As the photos continued, he found subtle ways to get closer — an accidental touch here, a compliment there, always maintaining the game of seduction. The tension between them was palpable, and Mabel found herself caught in a new wave of emotions — a strange, but exciting sensation.

Helena's sorry has two main timelines and four different branches. Here's a little summary of each

Timeline 1:

She's severely mentally ill and lives with her parents. In the summer of 2021, she goes on a vacation to Spain with her little brother. While there, she meets Ione and goes to the hallway.

Branch 1:

While in the hallway, she gets lost and becomes a soldier in the warring world. Because of a curse on this world, she forgets who she is and is renamed to Finetty. After some years there, she becomes a commander and is "gifted" the phoenix curse so she never dies. After 131 years of living like this, a man named Angus is sent to assassinate her, but he falls in love with her. She remembers who she was and they elope, running away to a peaceful world. While there, they have a daughter named Rose. Angus dies while Rose is still a toddler so Helena has to raise her alone, but she has several friends who are all more than happy to help. This ending is bittersweet.

Branch 2:

Delilah brings Helena to Nova (the world that train and tragedy takes place in). Helena becomes close friends with Augustus because of her connection to Delilah and she becomes his right hand man. She helps him fight the monster infestation and she dies in her 60s after being wounded on the battle field. She lived an alright life but died with few friends and loved ones. Overall, she's not very happy in the Nova branch.

Timeline 2:

She's doing much better mentally and lives alone. In the summer 2021, she moves to Spain and gets a job as a pharmacist. While there, she becomes good friends with Augustus, Francisco and Claire.

Branch 1:

Helena, Augustus, Francisco and Claire are normal people living normal lives. Nothing remarkable happens and they're all fine. This is the nice, not sad timeline for all of them.

Branch 2:

Despite not being as easily susceptible to the hallway, Helena still gets stuck there. She ends up in the cruise world, where L1-H are exceedingly rare. Everyone wants to experiment on her and her lifespan is extended by thousands of years but that entire time is spent in labs. At the end, she escapes and runs off to RM-778 where she befriends Maya and Frederik. They know of Finetty (as in, the other timeline) and take care of her but she dies after only some days with them.

Practice 1_4.3 - Post-Mortem

Stadium

First I dove back into Maya and put together this very rough Stadium. I never ended up connecting the Play area with the Stadium outer as I decided to go into a different direction.

Armour

I then threw together some basic Pauldrons as I thought it would save me time drawing them consistently from different angles, but I also didn't end up using these designs.

Gun

I also had this idea for a Quad Barrelled shotgun but didn't end up having enough time to finish. While I didn't end up using any of these designs it did help me get back into practicing 3D and dusting off my Maya skills.

Characters

Since part of the appeal of the Arena Shooter is the vast and interesting skins to play as I really wanted to get the diversity of the future across.

I set out to getting a lot of ideas blocked out for different looks that could represent different nations. For example the Imperium have designs inspired by classic medieval knights (B & I), the Tribes have bone and fur inspired outfits (A & F), the Bandits have mercenary and biker inspired outfits (C & J), Bio Mechanical armour types such as (K & L) attach and exist in harmony with the host, the Necris are undead cultists and wear all sorts of strange Gear (G & D), There are also Rebels (H & E) as well as robots (M & others not pictured until the final image, as I was running short on time). I wish I would have had more time to develope these characters further as some do feel a little half baked and generic in the final image.

Composition

Initially my plan was to do two separate images for the coloured and the black & white submissions. The coloured one would be a piece of Key Art showing a 'Match in progress'. After getting feedback from my Tutor we agreed that an engaging image for the black and white would be gladiators entering the arena. So I put some basic compositions together, working as I went and cutting planning shorter than usual as I knew I had just about enough time for what I'd planned.

I then worked out how my characters would feature in the composition, adjusted it, added my light source and set to designing the characters as I filled them in.

I wanted to add elements in the four intersections of the rule of thirds but also keep the eye drawn to the center. So I created this whacky sort of triangle/rule of thirds composition. I'd seen vertical, horizontal and diagonal compositions but never a specifically triangular one, so I was excited to see if I could pull it off. I used some gears in the foreground to 'cut off' the bottom sides of the image as there were lines leading the viewer's attention off-image so I wanted to hem them in.

I tried and retried the lighting a few times, adding darker shadows here and there and changing the hue, as well as reworking the colour scheme of the background to a royal blue and gold which worked really well with the purple and orange lighting. I also added cinders in the foreground with varying degrees of gaussian blur to add some visual flair as well as fully designing the background in it's full edgy 90's Arena Shooter glory.

Finally I tweaked some lighting, added extra shadows, lightened the background for more depth and added some fiery haze behind the pyramid in the front to help the main subjects pop. I'm quite proud of the resulting composition although a day or two more of fine-tuning could have helped it really come together.

Final Pieces

As I had run out of time by this point I was unable to finish the second image and simply chose to flatten and convert this image to black and white but it actually makes the value shine even better than the colour image. Which I was not expecting.

All in all, I was very happy with how this project turned out.

Leonetta. They were my first big ship ever. Have been a defender for them for solid 10 years, it's not been an easy road at all times, and I've had millions of discussions about them. But in the end, they're canon and they're endgame, I've won x)

Cazzie. I think it's because, I saw myself so much in Casey? Like I got her vibe very well. I'm not 100% into the execution, I mean i'm not much for the cheating, but... she and Izzie are so cute :3

J: You're taking Luna with you right?

[A knock on the door cuts Jack off, he stands up looking at the door, before Hanako uses her hand to motion Jason out of the room. Leading to him walking out of frame.]

H: [Annoyed.] It’s open!

[The door opens, two people seen from knee height in the doorway. Hanako stands up, grabbing the phone. Changing the camera angle from the floor to her shirt pocket where both people are now in frame. The man with a beard wearing sunglasses and a black baseball hat, as well as a black button up. The women, wearing a black dress and glasses.]

H: Hey!

?: Sweetheart. Don't play dumb we got the phone call. We know you haven't been listening to us.

H: [Mumbling.] I swear to fucking god could you at least say hi first. [Normal volume.] Nice to fucking see you too mom.

?: Honey. We're here to bring you home. So you can heal.

[The woman goes to grab Hanako's arm, leading to her moving her hand away.]

?: Hanako. This isn't high-school. This ‘gay’ thing you had going on can stop. Come. Home.

H: If you touch me I will kick you. You. Bitch.

??: [Snapping.] HEY! Don't speak to your mother that way.

[Hanako looks at the two, seemingly annoyed.]

??: You're coming home, and we're gonna find you a proper relationship.

H: How about no?

??: We're both tired of you doing this devil worshiping. You are coming home whether you like it or not.

H: No.

?: HANAKO ENOUGH. YOU ARE COMING HOME AND WE'RE GOING TO HEAL YOU!

[Hanako walks over to get in the woman's face, the woman looks mad as the camera gets closer.]

H: Oh yeah because that healing bullshit worked SOOOOOOOOOO well for Maya right?

[The man pushes Hanako, causing the phone to shake. He pushes her into a wall, the camera only viewing his shirt.]

??: NEVER BRING UP THAT DISAPPOINTMENT AGAIN YOU F[Redacted.]

H: I-

[Hanako is cut off by the man slapping her and grabbing her arm, she screams for a moment before the man can be heard grabbing her by the face.]

??: I've put up with your bullshit long enough. You're coming home you brat.

[The man begins dragging Hanako, causing the camera to shake more but before he can drag her out the door. The camera gets refocused long enough to see Hanako bite the man's arm with a snap, the man screams and the last thing the camera sees is blood. Hanako begins running, causing the camera to shake even more. She can be heard coughing before there's a set of thuds that lasts a few seconds.]

H: OW FUCK-

[When the camera finally refocuses again Hanako is at the bottom of a set of stairs, running and shouting is heard before Hanako struggles to get up.]

??: [Distant.] GET BACK HERE YOU FUCKING BITCH.

H: GO FUCK YOURSELF!

[Hanako continues going down stairs, seemingly limping as the camera shakes up and down. The distant screaming heard in the background as Hanako makes it to a lobby looking area and runs out the door, falling to the ground.]

H: [Pained.] God fucking damnit. Fucking assholes.

[After a few seconds of Hanako coughing, she stands up and turns around. Seeing the man and woman from before opening the door.]

??: YOU ARE IN SO MUCH FUCKING TROUBLE YOU BRAT.

[The man's arm is missing a bit of flesh, seemingly torn out by Hanako earlier. Blood dripping onto the gravel.]

?: [Fake sobbing.] I just wanted my only daughter back. And you do this?

H: [Pained speech lasts for the rest of the transcript.] Cut it the fuck out. You're faking that shit. You had a chance to have a family. Not my fault you fucked it up.

??: Your sister was a spoiled brat who wouldn't listen, we want you to be better than he-

H: They. And don't fucking call them a brat you son of a fuck.

??: This is the issue. You're poisoned with all these… False ideas. It's that brat's fault you left. That you're like this.

[Before the woman can finish, Hanako cuts her off by sucker punching her in the mouth. The camera blurs as Hanako spins to punch the man as well. A thud is heard as the man hits the ground, multiple sounds are heard at once. The most notable being multiple cracks and shouts from the man's direction on the floor. When it stops and the camera refocuses, the man is seen on the ground grabbing his left arm.]

?: YOU STUPID BRAT. WHAT DID YOU JUST DO?

H: I broke his arm. And probably cracked a few ribs. Now never talk to me again you fucking bitch. I'll be waiting on the cops I know you'll call.

[Hanako walks off as the woman can be heard screaming behind her. Hanako sits on a sidewalk, waiting for whoever shows up. She sighs… Almost sounding disappointed..? The recording stops here.]

Thank you for saying what I have been thinking since I saw all of those 9-1-1 accounts acting like the show was prime representation. Station 19 has 3, T H R E E, queer main characters. Two of them (Carina amd Maya) are in a relationship that has constant scenes together and is a big focus of the series. The remaining one (Travis) doesn’t have an endgame, but at least he has plots that are just for himself.

Of course I Iove Hen and Karen, Tomorrow was my favorite episode of s6. However, the reality is that they have been the longest relationship of 9-1-1 and yet it took them six seasons to finally get the full spotlight in one episode. There’s no point of comparison.

Henren’s representation IS important, but they are acting like the ones that used to say that 9-1-1 didn’t need Buddie because “there was representation on the show already”.

This mindset of seeing representation as a mere quota doesn’t sit right with me, they may argue that they had Michael but he was not a first responder and his relationship with David was only important when the characters were leaving.

Maya and Carina are practically the main endgame on the series, they are a big presence on Station 19 and losing them hurts because we don’t have to wait for one of them to come back after every certain amount of episodes.

I’m not kidding when I tell you that Tracie’s character in Station 19 has had better handled plots there than in 9-1-1, but they are not ready for that conversation…

Anyway, thank you for being objective and actually listening, because *those* stans are going to defend a series that, unlike Station 19, really needs a full makeover if they want to continue the plot.

I hope Hen and Karen get a benefit out of all of this mess, but there’s a BIG difference between having two mains in a relationship than only one of them. They would rather use Henren to prove a point than admitting the truth about 9-1-1…

Without following both shows (thank you for the extensive explanation), THIS is what has stuck out to me. The "You're still gonna get Henren" crowd doesn't watch Station 19 because they would know better than to use it as a consolation prize of sorts. I said it yesterday, but what sets our fandom apart from other first responder shows is that we get to celebrate having THE Angela Bassett as THE star. It's a safety net, a shield. Cancellation isn't a SERIOUS consideration as long as she wants to work on the show - who the hell is gonna "fire" her? This sense of security removes the ability to sympathize with other fans' disappointment and anger. YOUR show is getting canned to accommodate MINE? That's just business, baby. But if the show were on the other foot? If 9-1-1 had actually ended with season six? How do we think the fandom would be reacting to the kind of posts they're sending out right now? 🫠

hi there !! i stumbled across this blog and was wondering if it was ok if u could help me w my characters’ names ? ofc u dont have to but!! ive probably changed their names like. at least 5 times now bc im not really sure what sounds Right. trying to make sure they all flow well together while not being too matchy AND also trying to come up with surnames that sound good w/ them and the rest of their family is a big pain.

right NOW my five main characters are named: elliot, finn, maya, chloe, lucas (lucas and chloe are siblings, while elliot and lucas are the two central characters) im not sure if its any good, i think i like it atm but i know that im just gonna overthink and change it again at some point which is frustrating.

i think elliot’s mom will be named nora, and lucas & chloe’s parents will be rachel and david, but im blanking on finn’s parents and maya’s parents. also have no idea what i’m going to make their last names now. any advice ?? suggestions ??

No shame dear asker! That is indeed what this blog is for :] If I understood correctly, you're only asking suggestions for what to name (plus surname) Finn's and Maya's parents, yes?

I'll assume you want english (the language) centric names based on the names of the characters you listed here, so! Here's two rows, one for traditionally masc and one for traditionally fem names (I won't assume whether or not their parents are a straight couple or not so you may pick out of these)

Masc: Greg(ory), Jason, Todd, Matt(hew), Scott, Trevor, Simon, Anthony

Fem: Margaret, Martha, Lois, Holly, Eliza, Pauline, Jenny, Anna(h), Lindsay

Surnames: Cooper, Fairfield, Bronson, Jackson, Liaison, Danfer, Ferry, North, Berensbrook (or just Brook)

If you still feel unsure I really recommend a site called Behind The Name! It has a mode for surnames as well, it's a super comprehensive site. I'm not super confident in my surname suggesting abilities since I'm not a native speaker and thus don't have as good of a grasp on what the usual last names tend to look like ^^"

I tried to suggest some names that would feel more "older person", but if you ever need naming help for your protags listed here I'm all ears still ^^ hope this helps!

Maya. Meet Hifumi, Ryota and Iroha. Hifumi works in Branch 3, Ryota is the leader of Branch 10, and Iroha is another one of Kokichi’s staff members.The four of us together are part of a little manga and anime club called the Kyojin’s. We meet up on occassion to discuss weeb shit.

Kuripa told me about these guys and asked if I would be interested in joining.

Normally I would, but the commute would be difficult, and it’s too much of a hassle to keep booting up a PC to talk online.

But for what it’s worth, we’re having a really nice discussion now.

It is a shame though. We really could do with more girls in the group.

And it is interesting to become associated with one who draws manga from the west. You’re a rare find indeed.

JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind? Do you have the entire collection together?

I’m trying to put the collection together. This is what I’ve got so far. The Kyojin’s have helped me fill in the gaps and we’re taking turns reading it.

I wouldn’t say “reading.” We’re just flipping through it quickly and giving our thoughts and feelings. Typical club stuff you know? We just finished Part 5.

Well, it’s JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. “Bizarre” is literally in the name. It’s going to be wacky.

Yeah, but this one is particularly wacky.

Which is weird because the main cast of this part is pretty cookie-cutter.

I have to agree with Hifumi. The quirkiest member of the main cast of Part 5 is Mista. Not just because of his detest for the number 4, but because his stand was so remarkably different from any other main characters before.

Other than that, they were all pretty traditional when it came to personality’s. Narancia was the goofy one, Bruno was the serious one, Fugo was the tragic one...See what I mean?

That’s not even mentioning how the whole thing ends. With Diavolo, I WOULD say “What a way to go out” but the way he went out was NOT a way I would have ever come up with, ever in my life.

It’s hard to tell whether the author is a genius or a maniac. I mean, all of the ideas he comes up with rarely make sense, but work, especially in this part.

I mean, think about it. A stand that can erase time. It just doesn’t make sense.

...Well...It KINDA does.

*Everyone looks at Iroha.

What do you mean?

Diavolo is the main villain of the series. Every other main villain in JoJo has a stand that either screws with reality or screws with time. King Crimson is no different.

Dio can stop time, Kira can time jump...It’s just natural progression.

May I just point out that the way Kuripa phrased it is what’s causing all the confusion.

King Crimson doesn’t just “erase time”. If it did, that WOULD be really simple.

But it’s not the case...He can also MOVE in the erased time. So if he’s in the erased time, he could punch someone, and then the damage would be caused, but no one would be consciences of it, because it technically never happened!

If the time “erased” as you put it, how does Diavolo move around in it?

If he can alter the time that he erased, doesn’t that effectively mean the time was...NOT erased?

Plus, that logic doesn’t make sense. If he was to punch someone in the erased time, they WOULDN’T feel the blow, because the time was erased, meaning the blow NEVER HAPPENED. If it never happened, how was he able to deal damage!?

And to think, that’s not even counting Epitaph. I mean...Epitaph isn’t it’s own stand, right? It’s like a stand ability?

*Hifumi places orders, and Maya eventually comes back to the group with everyone’s drinks. They’re crowded around, reading through the comics and trying to grasp the legitimacy of the King Crimson stand.

...You know, I’m almost afraid to ask but...how’s progress going?

Ok, so here’s what I can gather so far. At it’s most simple, King Crimson’s power allows it to erase a 10 second segment of time. During those 10 seconds, King Crimson, and Diavolo, can move freely but can't affect anything.

So...he can see what’s going on in that 10 second period?

But then how does he attack?

He just attacks normally.

What do you mean he “attacks normally?”

*Kuripa turns the manga panel around and points to it.

When King Crimson erases the time, the time is also erased for Diavolo. What is shown in these little segments is Diavolo seeing what happened during the time that gets wiped. But he’s not doing anything. Because his action already happened.

But he erased the time, so I thought it didn’t happen!

No! For...gah!

So...not much progress then, huh?

What Kuripa means is this...

*Leona raises both of her pointer fingers.

This finger represents the point where King Crimson skips the time...And THIS finger represents what happens AFTER the time is skipped. Let’s say that during this time, if I had King Crimson’s ability and let’s say...I punched Maya in the face.

Oi! Don’t think I did anything wrong by you squirt!

If I use King Crimson’s ability to erase the time, that doesn’t mean what happened during that time didn’t happen. I still punched Maya, but she didn’t perceive it, or see it coming, because I cut out and deleted the moment my fist made contact with her face.

So...It STILL happened, it’s just that no one perceived it.

Not necessarily. DIAVOLO still perceived it.

*Leona points to a manga panel.

The segments where he’s shown moving around in the erased time are ACTUALLY him looking at what happened during the time that he erased. So here, in the final battle, he’s watching Mista fire bullets at him. This is showing what HAPPENED during the time that Diavolo used his stand to erase. It’s what WOULD have happened, not what DID happen.

Does that make sense?

Uh...lemme think about it.

I need to point out that this goes back to Hifumi’s point from earlier. You said that the time is erased, but Diavolo still sees what happens in that erased time.And by the time the phase ends, what happened in that time still happened as a result, right?

Well, that would then mean that if all of the events still happened, the time WASN’T ERASED.

Now I’M confused.

*Ryota grabs his volume and pulls up another panel.

During his encounter with Diavolo, Polnareff comes up with an idea to sense when his opponent has activated his ability. He cuts his hand, and lets it bleed, dripping on his trousers at a steady pace. He knows that Diavolo has used King Crimson because the number of blood spots on his trousers multiplies just out of nowhere.

If King Crimson’s real ability involved erasing the time, wouldn’t that mean that the dripping stops completely? Either that, or the blood just disappears entirely because Diavolo erased the part where Polnareff cut his hand.

Ok...First of all, that’s not how it works.

When is it ever?

LET ME FINISH. Diavolo can’t erase something that’s already happened.

Why not? If he can erase time, why doesn’t he just erase the part where Polnareff cut himself?

What good would that do!? He’s erasing the time in front of him so that he can get close to Polnareff without him perceiving it!

Like I said, Diavolo can’t interact with anything during the state of King Crimson, but he CAN move around. If he was to run behind Polnareff after this phase, he would still be behind Polnareff, in an advantageous position.

Why would Diavolo erase that part of history? It’s of no benefit to him; it just means Polnareff won’t remember his monologue and he wouldn’t have hurt his hand. 

That...ok, fair enough.

Even so, my original point stands. What you’re claiming to be time that’s been “erased” seems to be more time that’s been “skipped.” What happened in the “erased” time still happened, so it wasn’t “erased” at all. It was just skipped over.

Wait a second! So let me get this straight! Diavolo can’t interact with anything when he perceives the “erased” time. Right?

Yeah. 

The first time we ever see King Crimson’s ability is during the elevator scene, where Diavolo kidnaps Trish. Let’s use this bit for example. It doesn’t actually show things from Diavolo’s perspective, but the logic should still apply.

Pretend you’re the big man himself for a second. You have 10 seconds. What you do during that time is you infiltrate the elevator, kidnap Trish; specifically might I add, by amputating her hand so that Bruno, her escort, doesn’t notice immediately; carry her down the elevator shaft and make your exit.

That’s a lot of stuff to do in 10 seconds now that I think about it. How did he pull THAT off.

Time management in anime is bullshit. If a 5 minute death ball can take 18 episodes of Dragon Ball to blow up Namek, anything goes in that department.

Don’t bring DBZ logic into this, you’ll make things worse.

Like I SAID. Just because the moment where Trish’s hand was cut off, and where she got knocked out, was erased, that doesn’t mean what happened didn’t happen.

But how did Diavolo do it? You said yourself that he can’t interact with anything in the 10 seconds that King Crimson’s ability is active, and as you can see in all the examples thus far, we never see him perform any such action. Trish’s hand gets cut off, and Diavolo kidnaps her, but WHY and HOW?

*Everyone looks at Kuripa eagerly. After another 20 minutes of rereading the manga, as Maya continues to tend to the other customers, who look on at the gathering of weebs with confusion.

The whole thing of why and how it works. That’s where Epitaph comes in. Epitaph’s ability works in tandem with King Crimson to make the stand as deadly as it can be.

So it IS it’s own stand ability?

No!

Yes!

NO!

Is it, or is it not!?

Diavolo and Doppio may share a body, but they are two different people. It’s not out of the question that both their spirits may have different stands.

I...gah...Look...It’s easier to understand the ability’s if you think of them as two different stands. But that’s not it.

Epitaph works a bit like this. From the same part of the manga, Ghiaccio’s White Album. During the fight, Ghiaccio uses something called Gently Weeps. It allows him to freeze the air around him and deflect Mista’s bullets back at him.

Gently Weeps may have it’s own name, but it’s full name is White Album - Gently Weeps. It’s it’s own ability, but it’s not like Gently Weeps is it’s own stand.Epitaph is the same; it’s just an ability that King Crimson has.

Isn’t that a bit broken though? It’s wildly inconsistent with limits on stands.

Oh sure, because JoJo has never been wildly inconsistent with it’s logic before. It’s not like Iroha didn’t say the same thing earlier dude.

King Crimson uses Epitaph to see 10 seconds into the future. He then erases that 10 second interval immediately afterwards. Whatever Epitaph sees WILL  happen. It's FATED to.

And before you say anything about how that doesn’t happen in the final battle, that’s the whole point. Golden Experience Requium fucks with fate, and Epitaph can’t do anything about it, rendering the ability useless. So there you go.

No I didn’t! I told you, what Epitaph sees is fate. Diavolo cutting off Trish’s hand is FATE. It’s gonna happen, he just skips the part where it DOES happen so no one realizes.

Ok, but...How does Epitaph decide what counts as fate or not? Diavolo thinks, “I’m gonna go in there, kidnap my daughter and cut off her hand.” Does that one thought mean fate is decided?

Let me just clarify. Diavolo cannot interact with anyone while King Crimson is active, which means that he can’t move or do anything during the skipped time. Despite that, are you saying even if he moves differently than Epitaph's predictions, within his stand’s ability, the receiving party of his attack...that now isn't actually happening...still takes that punch even if it's no longer being swung?

Well, that’s a clusterfuck of a sentence.

But yes. Since it was fated to happen and he makes time skip straight to the point of being in pain from the punch he still gets hurt even though Diavolo didn't have to actually do anything. He just doesn't use that ability until the end because he naturally tries to avoid fighting people head on even if he's going to erase it because of his paranoia but when he's pushed to the brink he realizes he can do suicide attacks if he has the balls for it and then when he sees the prediction he erases it so he's perfectly fine and the other person still gets hurt.

Huh...

Ok...So overall, it’s like this. Time skips forward by 10 seconds, and Diavolo can see what happens in those 10 seconds, both BEFORE it happens using Epitaph, and WHEN it’s happening due to King Crimson’s natural ability. We refer to this time “skip” as time being “erased.”

Anything that happens in those 10 seconds doesn’t affect him, but in tandem, he can’t affect anything that’s happening in those 10 seconds.

But that said, he can sort of influence it, because what happens in those 10 seconds still happens, even Diavolo’s own predicted movements. He only knows what he’s going to do in that time, because while King Crimson doesn’t perceive him, Epitaph does.

Anything that would have happened in those 10 seconds DOES happen, EVEN IF he was involved, which is how he can cut off Trish’s hand and kill people even during the skipped time. But otherwise, nothing affects him.

Exactly. Get it now?

The way I see it, if you’re willing to argue with someone, it means you’re passionate about whatever it is you’re attacking or defending.

Leona doesn’t have many friends back in the US that really understand what she does. Hell, Leona doesn’t really have many friends aside from us back home.

Manga is such an irregular form of media compared to US propaganda that enjoyers of that caliber are few and far between. 

So...seeing Leona have such a passionate back and forth with the people who understand her love and relate to her. It brings me joy.
