WITH: @jamesxreed LOCATION: providence peak university
With a coffee in hand, Hyun Woo made his way towards the University, where he’d contacted one of the professors about a paper that he’d written that, Hyun Woo hoped, would help further some of the products they were focused on developing. Maybe he also just needed an excuse to speak with someone who wasn’t associated with their company about these issues. A riveting conversation, many notes, and an hour later, he excused himself and thanked Professor Schneider for his time. Without disclosing too much information as to what got him interested in the subject, he made his way through the campus, the faintest smile on his lips as he watched students, recalling his own university days. It had been one of the few periods of his life where he felt utterly free. There was a time that he loved Kaist so much that he considered pursuing a higher degree. Spending a few more years on campus sounded idealistic, but it did not align with the path that had been decided for him. So, upon graduating, Hyun Woo was working shoulder to shoulder with his brother.
Lost in thoughts of his own college experience, his shoulder collided with someone else’s. An apology immediately fell from his lips as he bent down to pick up the papers that had fallen onto the pavement. Luckily, the grass was dry and the papers were protected by a folder. “I’m so sorry, I wasn’t paying attention,” he explained. And it was only upon looking up that Hyun Woo realized that the blonde was a familiar face. “James?!” A mix of confusion and surprise crossed his expression. For a second he was silent, trying to process running into the man so unexpectedly. Realizing the folder was still in his possession, he offered it to him coupled with another apology. “Sorry, sorry, here, your folder. Hopefully no damage.”

Amended Petition.  October 15th 1922.
A PETITION TO THE PRESIDENT
From
THE INTERNATIONAL UPLIFT LEAGUE.
To His Excellency,
The President of
The United States of America,
The White House, Washington, D.C.
Dear Mr. President:
For the GOOD and true HONOR of our beloved country, the United States of America, in the NAME of ALMIGHTY GOD, LYNCHING should be abolished.  Opinion seems unanimous that the United States Government possesses permanently the greater jurisdictional control (about 3/4) over each United States Citizen; and the State in which the citizen resides holds the remaining (1/4) jurisdiction.
Hence the elimination of LYNCHING, our most heinous STIGMA, should be accomplished through the Federal Government, because the respective States, for more than fifty years, have failed to suppress LYNCHING.  Therefore, we urgently appeal to our honored President, and hereby PETITION him to URGE the enactment into LAW, during the Extra Session of Congress, of either Senator France's or Representative Dyer ANTI-LYNCHING BILL.  By such worthy and magnanimous ACT, Mr. President, you will immortalize your NAME like the illustrious Lincoln when we signed the Emancipation Proclamation.  Amen.
For the Women.
(Miss) Emma J. Chrichton
For the Men.
David Newton E. Campbell
Secretary I.U. League
P.S. We hope to secure millions of signatures to this PETITION and forward same duly.

According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, overall food prices remained steady in April, with a 2.2% increase in food inflation compared to last year. While groceries prices saw a 1.1% jump year over year, they actually dropped 0.2% compared to March. BLS economist Steve Reed mentioned that grocery store prices are leveling out, experiencing both increases and declines in different categories. Price fluctuations are returning to pre-pandemic levels, with most volatility seen in specific categories affected by temporary supply issues. Wells Fargo chief agricultural economist Michael Swanson expects food inflation to stay in the 1% to 2% range, reflecting the wages of food producers. The recent Consumer Price Index report showed increases in items like butter, flour, breakfast cereal, and frozen non-carbonated juices and drinks. Coca-Cola CEO James Quincey noted that US consumers are faring relatively well due to rising wages and purchasing power stabilization, especially in lower-income groups seeking value. Despite concerns about bird flu outbreaks affecting egg prices, they actually dropped by 7.3% last month. Lawmakers, led by Senator Elizabeth Warren, have urged President Joe Biden to investigate grocery store chains for possible price manipulation. Dining out costs drove overall food inflation up in April, with a 4.1% increase in food away from home compared to last year. Continuous inflation pressures in the food industry are being closely monitored by economists. Global chains like Starbucks and McDonald's have seen consumer spending pullback due to rising rents, food, and energy prices, posing a downside risk to consumer spending forecasts. In essence, the delicate balance between wage growth, price stability, and consumer affordability is crucial for the future of our grocery bills. Description: Throughout his several tours of Vietnam, Dennis Foley served with America's finest warriors -- men like David Hackworth, the nation's most decorated living soldier, and Jim Gardner, who was awarded the Medal of Honor for sacrificing his life so that his men might live. Now, in a tough, clear-eyed account, he recaptures the raw courage and sacrifice of American soldiers fighting a savage and desperate battle for survival.
Review: I have always loved Foley's fictional writing, it's really some of the best out there. But it took me this long to read his memoir of his time with Tiger Recon and his long career in the army. Let me just say this, Foley is very good at telling a story, crafting the narrative, and giving all the details to set the scene. He's an excellent writer, and the information he shares really puts you in the scene, each step of the way. Whether it's his time in Germany repairing radios and radars or with Tiger Force, he's not shy about letting the readers know just how far out of his element he was, and how shocked he was to actually succeed. He always feels like everyone else is better, has their shit together, and as he puts it, he's more Jell-O than rock. It's a great insight into training and being a trainer at Ft Benning, various locations in Vietnam, being a LRP, being in Tiger Force, and more. A really great book.
