i think that the majority of the deceased victors passed away from old age, with the exception of a few (general TW because this gets dark):

Basma Ford (D6, 23rd Games): died from a morphling overdose at age 27 (32 ADD)

Robin Blue Ryan (D9, 25th Games): murdered at age 37 (44 ADD) (imo he was a very unpopular victor in D9 because a) he was voted in, and b) as D9's first actual mentor, he didn't do very well, bringing home only one tribute in the 19 years he mentored)

Aubrey Flores (D10, 29th Games): drowned in his bathtub while drunk at age 40 (53 ADD)

Onyx O'Hara (D1, 42nd Games): died by suicide at age 26 (50 ADD)

her breathing was so shaky as she stared down at her phone, at the texts she'd had with harrison attempting to be supportive after he had lost everything in that fire... now, she couldn't help but start to fill in the blanks. the shadow had almost embraced her, it wasn't violent but she was in no state to fight back. she'd also gripped onto him at the baby shower but she couldn't say whether it was dissimilar or not. then after reading the forum, she was thinking about how max's child was being born as this was happening, something she felt she'd never have. emmeline's head was spinning. looking up, she caught sight of charlie and almost felt relieved. moving quickly on her feet, the woman stretched her arm out to grip his. "charlie!"

emmeline had managed to abstain from liquor. she did feel out of place but it wasn't about the drink considering how harrison's birthday party had ended. danny's words still rang in her mind, how she'd messed up with making the wrong choices - that meant she got hurt. unfortunately, she had been seeing an awful lot of dr. duncan in passing with the amount of times that she'd been in the emergency room this year. "oh, i was just whittling on to myself. not worth repeating." the woman shrugged before sighing. "i think i'll be going home soon. it's been lovely but i'm quite tired."

"oh yeah--no, i'm sorry." paisley has been a little bit in her own head ever since her and jace have arrived at the wedding, she couldn't help but think to herself how it could've been different if he hasn't left, if they got married. they were still engaged, in a way, after jace refused the doctor from giving up on what they had, and with the fact that she still waited for him for two years, the fact that she still hoped. and with that, she has given the man a chance, to prove himself. they were both off to socialize, but she couldn't help but be in her thoughts. A Children’s novel being written this November by YWP participant Emmeline Harrison in Canada.

Mabel and Amelia Chastain live in a world that is always autumn. They have no parents and are ridiculed and ignored by their peers and elders alike. So they enter to the woods that surround their village to try and cross to somewhere better. There, they meet a bear, doll people, and Aspen—a boy who leads them further into the forest. He calls himself the “King of the Forest,” and invites Amelia and Mabel to stay with him in the forest...forever. 

Their plan was to travel through the forest to a better life, but now that they’re there, do they really want to leave?

Everything seemed to be going to plan, they had done so well this far. While in the bathroom taking a piss, his best friend approached him and sent the text to Harrison. It was time to meet. Izaiah was nervous, he had done everything asked of him, what could have gone wrong. Izzy anxiously waited in the office of La Vela for Harrison to show, unsure how the next events would play out. He sat and scrolled through the forum as he waited. "Damn Emmeline, charlies speedo gets attention but not mine?" He muttered to himself before the door swung open and closed behind the other, hearing his voice, he was a little nervous, also not really knowing what was wrong. "I didn't send that text..." Harrison made his way through La Vela to Andi's office as requested by Izaiah, slightly puzzled as to why and even more annoyed at the timing. He'd finally been hitting things off with Paisley at the bar when he'd gotten the text. Come to the office, it's urgent. What could be so urgent? There'd been a plan in place, he thought they were solid on the details. Maybe not. Turning the doorknob to the office, Harrison peered through the lowly lit surrounds to find Izzy standing idly in the corner. "Hey, I got your text. Is everything still good to go? What's so urgent?"

"How'd your date go?" Mary asked, sitting on her bed surrounded by her Potions essay she was pointedly ignoring.

Emmeline huffed and floppdd onto her own bed.

"That bad?" Mary winced, "I thought you liked Pete?"

Emmeline tilted her head to look at Mary, "I do. I really do. But it's not... right."

"Right." Mary nodded, completely bewildered.

"I mean- You know how you just... stopped dating now? And you don't think you will want to again?"

Mary blinked, "Yes?"

"Well, Me and Pete were talking. Neither of us like the whole, going on dates and being all soppy with each other and whatnot. It just feels so... weird."

"But you like the kissing and stuff?"

Emmeline shrugged, "I mean- yeah. It's not like amazing or anything but I don't really mind it. I kinda like it but it's just the whole romance part I hate. That both of us hate."

Mary hummed, "You know what I was saying about how I felt so uncomfortable being in a relationship? Like the whole dating thing- kissing, dates, sex?"

Emmeline nodded so Mary carried on speaking, "Well. Maybe you're like me in that way. But not entirely. Like the more sexual or physical parts of the relationship are okay but you feel uncomfortable with the more romantic aspects?"

Emmeline got up and sat next to Mary on her bed, "Okay, yeah. That's definitely what it feels like. But not with guys."

Mary laughed, "I feel so bad for Lily. The only one in our dorm into guys."

Emmeline laughed with her, "She probably has little meetings with the other dorm just to fawn over hot men."

"No they actually do. Remus told me. Apparently James started it as a way to hang out with Lily more and they bonded over Harrison Ford."

Emmeline and Mary held hands as they laughed in each others hold.

"You realise I'm right here?" Lily shouted from inside the bathroom, "And it wasn't me fawning over Harrison Ford, that was so Remus. Don't let him fool you!"

Mary and Emmeline glanced at each other with large smiles.

"Want to go tell Pomfrey about all this?" Emmeline asked with a head tilt.

"Of course. She'll want to know everything."

𝐀𝐅𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝐋𝐎𝐒𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐇𝐈𝐒 𝐂𝐎𝐎𝐋 at Kit the moment Max learned of Adriana's arrest -- he spent most of the car ride in quiet contemplation. Why her? Why her? After all she had been through... who would put themselves through so much pain? And he knows Adriana would never hurt him. Ever. The sight of her would have been enough to make his knees buckle had he not already been seated, a hand reaching out to touch her before receiving a glare from a nearby corrections officer. They knew who he was. Officers had been getting all up in his shit from the very moment he woke up, desperate to put the true psychopath behind bars. And yet, they chose her?

"Of course I came.." He says. He is certainly exhausted from all the movement and commotion around him, having not seen this many people at one time in weeks. "Heather, Harrison and I are getting in contact with their father. We're gonna get you some representation and get you the fuck out of here..." He can feel himself losing control again, hand moving to his temple in an attempt to destroy the blistering headache. "You didn't do this. Emmeline didn't either. I don't know Kiyan very well but... something isn't right here."

It had been a long process. She had been stripped of her fresh and pristine clothing and forced into an unattractive beige sweat set. Her hands hadn't stopped shaking since the moment they took her from her home, fearing whatever was coming next. She walked into the large visiting room, her wrists jingling with the cuffs still attached. A sigh of relief left her mouth when she saw the man sitting at the table, moving to join him with the guard nearby. "Max, you came." As if there was any doubt he'd change his mind.

There’s a lot I love about Anne of Green Gables: the Sequel (which in my family has always been called Anne of Avonlea because hello, that’s the sequel. But I digress), and some of the changes that were made I might not love, but I understand. Leaving out the college years and having Anne go right from Avonlea school to Kingsport aka Summerside makes sense for the limited time. I’ve always adored Emmeline, and swapping out that idiot Roy for the equally idiotic but dashing Morgan Harris also works. Old Mrs Harris is a delight (well, a crank, but a delightful one). Bringing back Miss Stacy, yay! Katherine Brook is so, so well done, even if her story is left hanging at the end. And of course, the final proposal is perfection.

But. I don’t mind giving Mr Harrison’s role to Gilbert so much, because it’s awkward to introduce a new character like that and give him such an important role when, again, you’re dealing with the time constraints of a mini-series/movie. But I HATE how patronizing Gilbert is to Anne in that scene, and frankly, if someone used a RIDING CROP on me when I didn’t take his advice, I’d do more than simply wallop him with a basket of flowers. (Granted, I also always holler, “kick him again!” when Morgan grabs Anne after she’s stormed out of the ball, so it’s possible I just have issues.)

I also hate how Kevin Sullivan stole so much of the interaction between Anne and Gilbert from the 1933 Little Women. Literally lifted half of the dialogue between them right from that movie. Anne’s insistence that Gilbert doesn’t really love her, his insistence that she’ll fall in love with someone else and he hopes he breaks her heart, even the bit where Diana chides Anne for showing off in front of Gilbert ... all taken from Jo, Laurie, and Meg in Little Women.

And look, it works for them. Laurie is a self-centered, impulsive kid who doesn’t really know what he wants in life, and he doesn’t actually love Jo, he loves the idea of being in love with Jo. Jo is childish and prone to showing off and terrified of adulthood, and really does think of Laurie as a brother. Meg is the quintessential elder sister who is perpetually annoyed by Jo’s tomboyish ways.

But Anne and Gilbert (and Diana)? Anne does not try to convince Gilbert he only “thinks” he loves her; she knows he loves her and she wishes he didn’t. Anne’s problem is thinking she’s not in love with Gilbert because she doesn’t yet understand what love is, not that she’s deluding herself into believing he doesn’t love her. Gilbert doesn’t ill-wish her; he says that her friendship can’t satisfy him when what he wants is love, and wishes her well, and that’s it. As for Diana, she adores Anne and always has (not to mention Anne would not make fun of her in front of others), and even if she has hurt feelings, she’s not going to scold her.

It’s all just so nonsensical that even if the blatant plagiarism didn’t annoy me the wrenching of characters into a shape that doesn’t fit them would.

However. The costumes and the scenery are gorgeous, of course, and Marilla is, as always, The Best.

And I’ll forgive it almost everything for that last bridge scene.

FRANK LONGBOTTOM is THIRTY-TWO YEARS OLD and an AUROR in THE DEPARTMENT OF MAGICAL LAW ENFORCEMENT at THE MINISTRY OF MAGIC. He looks remarkably like HENRY GOLDING and considers himself aligned with THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX. He is currently TAKEN.

→ OVERVIEW:

A hopeless romantic with a strong sense of self, Frank Longbottom was raised an only child in the wizarding village of Barnton in Cheshire by his mother as a single parent. Frank only got a short amount of time with his father, though he was a warm and funny man that Frank grew to resemble greatly despite the little amount of time they spent together. Alatar Longbottom was a respected wizard working in The Ministry of Magic’s Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures in The Dragon Research and Restraint Bureau and was known as a knowledgeable and curious character. The only memories Frank had of his father were positive ones, including the pranks he enjoyed playing on Frank’s very serious mother AUGUSTA LONGBOTTOM. A good friend of NEWT SCAMANDER, Frank often remembered his father bringing home infant dragons to scare his wife to the delight of Frank. His father died when Frank was around six years old after succumbing to Dragon Pox during a working visit to Romania, leaving Augusta to raise her son alone. 

An intimidating but loving mother to Frank, Augusta had a very particular view on the world she preferred Frank to adhere to which centered around hard work, strength of self and good breeding, although she was adminant she was not a blood supremacist. Augusta wanted to raise Frank to be a strong wizard like his father and worked tirelessly to educate him ahead of Hogwarts to ensure he received the best start to his education. Subjects like Herbology and Potions she was both fond and very good at, whereas certain subjects such as Charms and Care of Magical Creatures she remarked as “soft” and paid little attention to teaching her son. Although he was the only child in his family, the sheer outlandishness of his mother, grandparents and uncle were enough to keep him entertained. Family dinners which occurred each Sunday were always an interesting affair and often resulted in food thrown up the ceiling and heated arguments about the course Frank’s life ought to be heading in to best continue their family legacy. 

His family were hardened, insane characters, leaving Frank as the most tender member who simply obeyed what his family wanted out of his dislike for confrontation, though he always had his own sense of agency he privately prioritised. Like his father, Frank was fond of plants, magical creatures and research which kept him at his happiest. Alone in his bedroom before dinner Frank would sit and enjoy his own company, reading his father’s old journals, visiting all of the places he had promised to take Frank in his head and creating adventures he hoped to one day have. Whereas his father was fond of beasts such as dragons, Frank realised he was interested in darker creatures which were often categorized as beings. The mention of werewolves, vampires and Inferi were enough to keep most children awake at night, but Frank was simply fascinated by them which would bode well when he began attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Sorted into Gryffindor, Frank immersed himself in his studies and became a standout student in Defence Against The Dark Arts and Care of Magical Creatures. 

Frank’s knowledge within these subjects rivaled that of even EMMELINE VANCE and HESTIA JONES who were renowned as the smartest students in Frank’s year at school. A part of Frank had always longed to follow his father into the Ministry working in The Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, but a chat with PROFESSOR ALBUS DUMBELDORE in his fourth year had him reconsidering his future career. A personal favourite of the Professor's, Dumbledore urged Frank to consider becoming an Auror and use his knowledge elsewhere, suggesting he join Duelling Club to sharpen his skills, alongside his best friend KINGSLEY SHACKLEBOLT. Dutifully, Frank agreed and was introduced to a girl who changed his outlook on the world for the rest of his life. ALICE YEN was slightly older than Frank and a Prefect for Gryffindor he’d seen in and out of the common room and a regular at Duelling Club. The best duellist in the school, Alice often offered to battle the newcomers and quickly befriended Frank after he was able to best her. Alice saw the world differently to Frank, she looked at the injustice and the cruelty and hoped to change it for the better and urged him to try and see it from a different perspective. 

Though Alice was unaware of it, her sharing her thoughts and opinions was what cemented Frank becoming an Auror. He felt inspired by her words and had a niggling feeling it was because of Alice that Dumbeldore had sent him toward Duelling Club in the first place. Frank applied to be an Auror alongside Kingsley and a few other people from his year at Hogwarts, including close friend AMOS DIGGORY and two witches he’d become close to during his Prefect and Head Boy duties, Emmeline Vance and ex-Head Girl Hestia Jones. The training was as difficult as everyone said it would be, but Frank was lucky enough to excel in the majority of the training and his extensive knowledge on dark creatures and duelling ability served him well. During Auror training Frank felt them become somewhat of a family, which helped when training stopped and the real work began. As well as his work as an Auror, Frank was one of the first people alongside Alice that Dumbeldore asked to join The Order of The Phoenix. As more people began to disappear and people they’d known from school drop off the edge of the earth, Dumbeldore began assembling the finest sorcerers he knew to form an elite team in the event it was required. The Order has been on standby, apart from to train and recruit other members who may prove useful in the war, leaving Frank to mostly focus on his job at The Ministry, though he is always on the lookout for potential candidates. 

Due to his expert knowledge, ALASTOR MOODY tended to assign Frank to cases involving dark creatures and beasts which he felt he’d be better at handling than the other Auror’s. The work was often violent and involved staying back at the office looking at crime scene photos with a series of crime scene photographers who often quit shortly afterwards due to the nature of the job. When the rate of disappearing witches and wizards went on the increase, people began to point fingers at dark creatures suggesting magical folk had been turned into werewolves and vampires, which Frank disagreed with. The rate of reported werewolf bites had been relatively the same as had werewolf and vampire related murders which looked noticeably different from those committed by wizards. In the past year however Frank has noticed that change and whilst missing person cases pile up around them, the number of people drained of blood or left torn apart has had a sharp incline. Alongside his new photographer REMUS LUPIN who took up a permanent position last year assisting Frank, the pair have been investigating FENRIR GREYBACK who has been on The Ministry’s watchlist for sometime, though Frank fears he has stepped up his well-known mission to build up a werewolf army, although he is unsure as to why. WIth the help of Remus, Frank hopes to understand what Fenrir is up to and how best to stop him ruining any more lives.
