The mother of the two British-Israeli sisters killed in the terrorist shooting attack in the Jordan Valley on Friday is still in critical condition, reports said Saturday.
The incident on Road 57 near Hamra junction was initially reported as a traffic accident, but an initial investigation found that the terrorists fired at the Efrat family’s vehicle, causing it to veer to the shoulder and crash. They then fired again at the car to ensure that they had hit those inside.
20-year-old Maya and 15-year-old Rina Dee were killed on the spot, while their mother Lea, 48, is in critical condition. Over 20 bullet casings were found at the scene.
Their father was driving in a separate vehicle ahead of them and arrived at the scene after rescue efforts had begun. The family was on its way to a holiday destination in Tiberias, reports said.
Efrat Council head Oded Revivi said the local council is working to provide the family with any requirements they need in this difficult time.
Tumblr media
Soldiers are still searching the area for the terrorists and have set up dozens of checkpoints in the Jericho area. Defense Minister Yoav Gallant held a situational assessment in light of the attack on Friday afternoon, instructing the defense establishment to allocate all the necessary resources to catch the terrorists and to strengthen security on the roads throughout the West Bank and Israel. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also held a situational assessment on Friday.
The two sisters’ funeral is set to take place on Sunday at 5:00 p.m., the family said.
Police chief Kobi Shabtai said the attack emphasizes how relevant the threat of terrorism is in its various forms.
“Therefore, alongside our operations and that of the security forces in all sectors, I call on every citizen who has a licensed firearm and is skilled in operating it legally to carry it these days,” he said.
Commander of the IDF’s Central Command Maj.-Gen. Yehuda Fuchs stated: “We experienced an extremely severe terrorist attack. As we have known how to pursue and find the terrorists until now, we will also deal with these terrorists. We are reinforcing forces in all sectors. We were unable to prevent this attack, but we will do everything we can to prevent the following ones.”
After the terror attack in Tel Aviv on the same day
The other terror attack that occurred on the same day saw one person killed and seven others injured in a ramming attack in Tel Aviv. The murdered victim was Alessandro Parini, a tourist visiting the country from Italy. The terrorist who carried out the attack was Yosef Abu Jaber, who worked as a janitor at a school in Kiryat Ono.
Foreign Minister Eli Cohen arrived at the Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center at around 7 p.m. on Saturday accompanied by the Italian Ambassador to Israel, Sergio Berbenti, to visit the injured from the terror attack the night before.
Tourism Minister Haim Katz sent a letter of condolence to Parini's family, stating that "on behalf of the government of Israel, we grieve with you for your loss. The gratuitous hatred of the extremists has no geographical boundaries, and does not differentiate between religion, race and nationality, between innocent citizens and tourists. May you know no more sorrow."
Katz also wished for the speedy recovery of the injured tourists from Italy and Britain, who were evacuated to hospitals after the attack.

this post maybe won't make sense, but i need to get things off my chest. i am a student of FF UK, i wasn't present in the building at the time, when it happened. all my friends are safe, and in a way i am incredibly grateful that we get to grieve together. we all share feelings of guilt - guilt that comes from being close to the event and grieving everything, though it didn't touch us directly. feelings of not deserving moments of happiness, when so many lives were taken by the hand of some fucked up idiot, and when so many people now grieve the loss of a close friend, a family member, colleague, a member of their collective. all of this, maybe directly maybe not, were the intention of the murderer. i keep telling myself that i cannot let him win in this sense, to spread fear and feelings of hopelessness beyond the event itself. i was really grateful to see my parents after a few weeks of not seeing them, but my mind kind of automatically went to the fact that some people will not see their parents again, that some parents won't see their kids ever again, or that some people will spend the holidays in waiting rooms and beds of hospitals.
the faculty is our second home. we spent so much time in the halls of the building, felt safe there, cried there because of the load of work we had, laughed and shared nice moments. it feels all so far away. nothing is going to be the same ever again. i cannot imagine returning to the building, and i wasn't even there. i cannot imagine the fear and all the emotions that the people present must've felt. my thoughts are with the people who were killed, injured and the people who will be scarred for the rest of their lives by the event. and i wish them all a speedy recovery, if it is even possible. i will never forget the moment when i came back home from work, and the university groupchats started going off with questions like "are you guys okay?", "is anyone in the building?". the fear that struck me when i realized one of my flatmates isn't home and was supposed to be in class. the relief i felt when they started responding to messages and said that they don't know what is going on. me and my friends were lucky, and it feels so incredibly strange to have the possibility to say that. many people don't have this.
i don't know how to exist now, it feels really meaningless. but i also keep telling to myself, that this is exactly what i cannot give to the murderer. we all have to keep on going on. it's going to hurt, it's going to feel unreal. but we have to keep going on.
do not share information about the shooter. do not share information about the victims unless it is with the consent of the families or close friends. some czech media seriously messed up with their coverage of the mass murder, sharing photos of the people hiding while the shooting was happening, sharing images of the killer. sharing his story, when that's probably what he wanted. there is an open letter from students of journalism at FSV UK, which covers this in a way that i never would be able to, if you speak czech i recommend to read it. i recommend to take time to grieve, even if you weren't a witness or a victim of the crime. there is no right way to grieve. but slowly and surely, we all somehow have to return "back to normal life". there is no shame in reaching out, even if you weren't directly affected. we all are impacted by the event, and have to process it in some way. there are contacts on the official page of Charles University that you can reach out to, to get professional help. reach out for help. reach out to your friends and family. tell them you love them. tell them you appreciate them. share your grief, if you need or want to.
i have no idea how to end this post, or even if it makes any sense at all. but i wish us all a recovery, i wish us all the possibility to "go back", if possible. my heart goes out to the victims and injured. i am really sorry that this had to happen.

🚨BREAKING: Istanbul blast that killed 6 and injured 81
A suspect is in custody related to an explosion that killed at least six people and injured at least 81 others in Istanbul today (sunday 13th 2022), Turkey’s interior ministry. The incident has been deemed a terrorist attack, Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay said Sunday.
“We consider it to be a terrorist act as a result of an attacker, whom we consider to be a woman, detonating the bomb,” Oktay told reporters today.
CCTV footage shows a woman sitting on a bench for more than 40 minutes and then getting up one or two minutes before the explosion, leaving a bag or plastic bag behind, according to Turkish Justice Minister Bekir Bozdag.
Bozdag, who made the comments in an interview with privately owned A Haber news channel, said Turkish security forces believe the woman is the suspect, and officials are investigating her.
“There are two possibilities. Either that bag or plastic bag has a mechanism in it, it explodes on its own or someone detonates it from afar. All of these are currently under investigation.” he added. “The name of the woman is unknown,” he said. “All the recordings and data about the woman are being analysed.”
Tumblr media
The blast happened on Istiklal Street in Beyoglu Square, in the heart of Turkey’s largest city, Istanbul Governor Ali Yerlikaya said.
“We wish God’s mercy on those who lost their lives and a speedy recovery to the injured,” Yerlikaya tweeted.
The six people killed include Yusuf Meydan, a member of Turkey’s Ministry of Family and Social Services, and his daughter Ecrin, according to Derya Yanık, the minister of the agency. Turkey’s Health Minister Fahrettin Koca tweeted Sunday evening that 39 of the 81 people injured in the explosion have been discharged from the hospital after completing their treatment.
“Of the 42 patients that remain hospitalized, five are still in the intensive care unit, two of them are in serious condition. We are doing our best to ensure that the injured people recover as soon as possible,” Koca said.
Witness Tariq Keblaoui said he was shopping on Istiklal Street when the explosion happened about 10 meters (32.8 feet) ahead of him.
“People were scattering immediately,” said Keblaoui, a Lebanese-based journalist who was on his last day of vacation in the city. “Very shortly after, I could see how many injured were on the ground,” Keblaoui told CNN. He says he saw dead bodies and victims who were seriously injured.
“There was a man in the store bleeding from his ears and his legs, and his friends were crying near him,” Keblaoui said.
Istiklal Street was packed with visitors when the blast happened Sunday afternoon, he said.
“It went very quickly from a very peaceful Sunday with a very crowded street full of tourists to being what looked like the aftermath of a war zone,” Keblaoui said.
“All the responsible figures will be identified and punished,” the president said. At least six people were killed by the blast in Istanbul, Turkey's vice president also stated.
News of the explosion led to a torrent of condolences from around the world.
French President Emmanuel Macron, whose own country suffered a deadly terror attack exactly seven years earlier, shared his sympathies for the Turkish people.
“On this day so symbolic for our Nation, while we think of the victims who fell on November 13, 2015, the Turkish people are struck by an attack in their heart, Istanbul,” Macron tweeted. “To the Turks: we share your pain. We stand with you in the fight against terrorism.”
European Council President Charles Michel shared his condolences after Sunday’s deadly blast.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky tweeted of his “deep sadness” at the news of the blast. “I offer my condolences to the families of those who lost their lives and wish a speedy recovery to the injured,” Zelensky said. “The pain of the friendly Turkish people is our pain.”
The investigation continues.

22 Killed In Kerala Tourist Boat Tragedy, Multiple Rules Were Broken
The incident took place around 7 pm near Tuvalthiram beach in the Tanur area of Malappuram.
Tumblr media
New Delhi: At least 22 people, including seven children, were killed when a double-decker boat overturned and sank near a beach in Kerala’s Malappuram district Sunday evening, the state government informed.
The incident took place around 7 pm near Tuvalthiram beach in the Tanur area of the district. A case has been registered against the boat’s owner for culpable homicide, the police said.
Although the exact number of passengers on the boat is still unknown, 40 were with tickets while many others were without one. The boat reportedly did not have a safety certificate either.
National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and Indian Coast Guard personnel are engaged in rescue work. Underwater cameras are being used to track down those who are still missing.
Leaders across the political spectrum expressed their shock and sadness at the incident.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the deaths and announced a compensation of ₹ 2 lakh to the families of each victim.
“Pained by the loss of lives due to the boat mishap in Malappuram, Kerala. Condolences to the bereaved families. An ex-gratia of ₹ 2 lakh from PMNRF (Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund) would be provided to the next of kin of each deceased,” the Prime Minister’s office tweeted Sunday evening.
Congress leader and former Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi too wished for the speedy recovery of those injured.
“Distraught by the news of a houseboat capsizing in Malappuram, Kerala. My heartfelt condolences to all those who have lost their loved ones, and wishes for the speedy recovery of those injured.” “I appeal to Congress workers to assist authorities in rescue operations,” Mr Gandhi tweeted.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced that he will visit the site today and directed Malappuram district collector to immediately carry out an emergency rescue operation. Police, fire and health officials along with locals from Tanur were engaged in the rescue work.
The Chief Minister also announced that Monday has been declared as a day of mourning with all government events postponed as a mark of respect to the victims.
According to the police, the cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told a news conference that Turkey had at least 912 deaths, with about 5,400 people injured. He said at least 2,800 buildings had collapsed.
"Because the debris removal efforts are continuing in many buildings in the earthquake zone, we do not know how high the number of dead and injured will rise," Erdogan said.
Syrian health officials said at least 371 people were killed in the government-held areas, while rescue workers said at least 221 others died in rebel-controlled areas.
The quake destroyed the historic Gaziantep Castle and many other historic buildings in the area.
In the Turkish city of Mersin, resident Nurhan Kiral told VOA's Turkish service that the earthquake lasted about a minute.
"We woke up with the tremor and got out of the bed. Rubble fell from the chimney. Rubble fell from the empty space between the buildings. It was terrifying," Kiral said.
The Syrian American Medical Society said its hospitals in Syria were "overwhelmed with patients filling the hallways."
"Many hospitals are full, but some critical facilities, including Al Dana Hospital had to evacuate patients after sustaining severe damage from the earthquake," the group said in a statement. "Likewise, the Idleb Maternity Hospital was forced to transfer all newborns to a nearby hospital."
International help
The European Union said it mobilized rescue teams to the region, with crews from Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, France, Greece, Hungary, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland and Romania.
"Our thoughts are with all those who have lost loved ones and the brave first responders working to save lives," EU foreign policy chief Joseph Borrell and Commissioner for Crisis Management Janez Lenarčič said in a joint statement.
French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak all said their governments were ready to help those affected by the earthquake.
"Greece is mobilizing its resources and will assist immediately," Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis tweeted.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said search and rescue teams, as well as medical aid, would be going to Turkey in response to a request from the Turkish government.
Russia also said it had rescue teams preparing to go to Turkey to help earthquake victims in both Turkey and Syria.
U.S. national security adviser Jake Sullivan said President Joe Biden directed the U.S. Agency for International Development and other federal partners "to assess U.S. response options to help those most affected."
"The United States is profoundly concerned by the reports of today's destructive earthquake in Türkiye and Syria. We stand ready to provide any and all needed assistance," Sullivan said in a statement.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy offered his government's support as well.
"I am shocked to learn of deaths and injuries of hundreds of people as a result of the earthquake in Turkey," Zelenskyy tweeted. "We send our condolences to the families of the victims and wish the injured a speedy recovery. At this time, we stand by the friendly Turkish people and are ready to provide the necessary assistance."
Turkey is in one of the world's most active earthquake zones.
In 1999, 17,000 people were killed when a 7.4-magnitude earthquake — the worst to hit Turkey in decades — struck near Duzce, in the northwest of the country.
In October 2022, a magnitude-7.0 quake hit the Aegean Sea, killing 116 people and wounding more than 1,000. All but two of the victims were in Izmir, Turkey.

It was so devastating hearing the news about Kyoto Animation. They’ve been my favorite anime studio for over 10 years, ever since The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya became my most favorite anime, and I’ve watched almost all their shows since then. Even though I’m not as into anime as I used to be, I still have nothing but respect for KyoAni for producing some of the most caring and gorgeous 2D animation and creating a style and mood to their works that’s all their own. It’s so tragic that such a senseless act of violence can occur even in such a relatively peaceful country as Japan. My sympathy goes out to the families of the victims who have perished and I wish a speedy recovery to those who were injured.
My personal favorite KyoAni works:
- Haruhi Suzumiya (series and movie) - Lucky Star - Violet Evergarden - Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid - Clannad After Story

This is such a terrible loss but I know they’ll overcome this tragedy~ Thank you KyoAni for all your contributions to the anime world!

A man in his 40s was moderately injured in a suspected stabbing attack on a bus near the Ramot Junction in Jerusalem on Tuesday afternoon, according to emergency services.
The suspected terrorist, a Palestinian from the West Bank who had entered Israel with a permit, was shot by a civilian and is in moderate condition.
According to police, the Palestinian stabbed a person with a screwdriver while riding on an Egged bus in Ramot. The terrorist and the passengers got off the bus and Ynet photographer Meshi Ben Ami, who was passing by at the time, shot the terrorist. Police and medics arrived quickly to the scene.
Shaare Zedek Medical Center stated that the victim was at the hospital in moderate condition with multiple stab wounds to his upper body, adding that he was not in a life-threatening condit
Tumblr media
Israel Police Jerusalem District Commander Doron Turgeman conducted a situation assessment at the scene of the attack.
"This is another reminder of the terrorist threat we face."
"This is another reminder of the terrorist threat we face," said Turgeman. "The result of tonight's attack could have been much more deadly, and the terrorist was neutralized first and foremost thanks to the determination and heroism of civilians who were passing by, fought with him and acted to neutralize him. Their vigilance and courage prevented further harm to innocent people. We will continue to fight terrorism and terrorists wherever they are, for the safety and security of the public."
Video on site Israel Police operate at scene of stabbing in Jerusalem, July 19, 2022 (Credit: Israel Police)
"The wounded man was lying on the sidewalk next to the bus while he was conscious and suffering from bleeding stab wounds to his body," said Magen David Adom paramedics Itai Shimonov and Netanel Lifshitz. "We were told he was stabbed inside the bus while it was driving. We provided him with life-saving medical care that included stopping the bleeding and bandaging him and quickly evacuated him in an intensive care unit to the hospital as his condition was stable."
Prime Minister Yair Lapid wished a speedy recovery to the victim of the attack on Tuesday afternoon and congratulated the Ynet photographer who "acted resolutely to neutralize the terrorist and prevent harm to other people."
"We will not allow terrorism to raise its head and disrupt the routine of our lives. We will make anyone who tries to harm innocent civilians pay," added Lapid.
Public Security Minister Omer Bar Lev was updated on the situation by police on Tuesday evening.
"This is a serious terrorist incident, and thanks to the resourcefulness and quick response of a citizen, more serious injuries to the bus passengers were prevented. Such an event will not make us let go of our determined fight against Palestinian terrorism, both those carrying them out and those sending them," said Bar Lev. "Israel Police is working to protect the security of Israeli citizens, and the police officers are determined to thwart any such attempt. I wish a speedy recovery to the citizen who was injured in the attack."
Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem called the stabbing "a natural response to the occupation's crimes against our Islamic and Christian sanctities in the city of Jerusalem."
"This act of resistance confirms once again the failure of all attempts to stop the escalation of the act of resistance in the occupied West Bank and the city of Jerusalem," added Qassem.
The attack comes about two weeks after a Palestinian stabbed and moderately injured an Israeli near Givat Shmuel in central Israel.

Waiting shed blast kills vendor, injures 5 others in NoCot town
#PHnews: Waiting shed blast kills vendor, injures 5 others in NoCot town
COTABATO CITY – An improvised explosive device (IED) went off as a bus was approaching a passenger waiting shed in Tulunan, North Cotabato, at past noon Wednesday, leaving one dead and five others injured. Police identified the fatality as 53-year-old Gina Paunon. Those injured were Ryan Panibayo, 28; Rodel Secur, 24; Kent Lloyd Sendero, 19; Eduard Odango; and Ritchie Pedroso, 32. They are all local residents. Maj. Jun Napat, Tulunan town police chief, said the blast occurred at around 12:30 p.m. as a Yellow Bus Lines unit was about to make a stop at a waiting shed where the IED was believed to have been planted. Napat said the victims were rushed to the Sorilla Medical Hospital some 50 meters away from the blast site. He said Paunon, a sidewalk vendor, died while undergoing treatment. He clarified that the explosion was not inside the bus but at the roadside and was set off as the bus was about to park. “All the bus passengers and the bus conductor are safe,” Napat said, quoting the bus driver whose name was not immediately known. The YBL bus (body number 2988) had shrapnel marks on its side, and its front and rear tires were deflated. The bus firm had been receiving extortion demand from unidentified men who threatened to set off bombs if their demands are ignored. North Cotabato Governor Nancy Catamco immediately condemned the attack and called on police to conduct a manhunt against the perpetrators. “This is a clear travesty of our laws and it is inhuman,” Catamco said. “We see this as another challenge to our efforts to maintain peace in our area." Catamco implored North Cotabato residents to remain vigilant and support the security forces, even as she vowed to provide help to the victims. In a statement, Vice Governor Emmylou Taliño-Mendoza also called on authorities "to speed up their investigation to identify and bring the perpetrators to justice." "I would like to offer prayers and express sympathy to the family of the victims and wish speedy recovery for the wounded of the bomb explosion...This act of cowardice of some lawless elements is an act of terrorism, which I resolutely condemn," Mendoza added. The Tulunan blast came two days after a powerful IED also went off in South Upi, Maguindanao which killed a motorist and injured another. A second bomb rigged from a 105-howitzer explosive was defused by bomb experts on the same day. (PNA)

‘We Are Sorry’: Osinbajo Apologises To Nigerians As Protests Against Police Brutality Continue
Tumblr media
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has apologized to Nigerians and admits the Federal Government could have “moved faster” in addressing the demands of #EndSARS protesters.
“Dear Nigerians, I know that many of you are angry, and understandably so. We could’ve moved faster and for this we are sorry,” he said in a series of tweets on his handle late Friday.
“I fully understand how many young people feel. Many feel that we have been too silent and have simply not done enough. These feelings of frustration are justified.”

Taking Responsibility
According to him, “There are far too many people who have been brutalized at the hands of the police and this is unacceptable.
“We must take responsibility for protecting young people, even sometimes from those who are paid to protect them.”

He also believes the protests rocking the country goes beyond agitations about the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
“They’re deep and systemic and we’re undertaking comprehensive measures that will revamp the police by addressing issues of welfare, service conditions, and training,” he explained.

Ongoing Work
According to the former University of Lagos lecturer, meetings have been held with several stakeholders in the country with a view to addressing the demands of the youths who are championing the protests.
“We understand that you want to see action from us and I’m here to tell you that work is ongoing,” the Vice President noted. “I chaired a meeting of 36 state governors and the Minister of the FCT (NEC), where we resolved to set up judicial panels of inquiry so we can see justice served, and fast.
“The reason being that only state governors, by law, can set up judicial inquiries in their states. The hearings will be public.”
While reiterating the disbandment of SARS, he assured that officers from the unit will not be part of any tactical squad.
Osinbajo equally commiserated with the “families of Jimoh Isiaq, and all those who have lost their lives at the hands of wayward police officers. To those injured, I wish a full and speedy recovery.
“We have proposed that each state government set up a Victims’ Support Fund, which will support. This is the least that we can do to compensate for the injustice suffered at the hands of errant officers.”

We also understand that the issues that you’re raising are bigger than just SARS. They’re deep and systemic and we’re undertaking comprehensive measures that will revamp the police by addressing issues of welfare, service conditions and training.

On Monday, Mr. President also reiterated his commitment to these extensive police reforms.

We will continue to update and engage with you all on these action steps and the ones to come, in the spirit of transparency, so that you can hold us accountable. We are, after all, here to serve you and we owe you a duty to win back your trust.

We Are Sorry’: Osinbajo Apologises To Nigerians As Protests Against Police Brutality Continue
Tumblr media
While reiterating the disbandment of SARS, he assured that officers from the unit will not be part of any tactical squad.
Osinbajo equally commiserated with the “families of Jimoh Isiaq, and all those who have lost their lives at the hands of wayward police officers. To those injured, I wish a full and speedy recovery.
“We have proposed that each state government set up a Victims’ Support Fund, which will support. This is the least that we can do to compensate for the injustice suffered at the hands of errant officers.”
