Out of all of my muses, Jacob is the one with the biggest heart (next to Varric, Hewlett, Cassie, & Lydia). When he falls in love, he falls hard. He also cares way more for the people around him than his jokester aura lets on. I think in most cases, Jacob is led by his heart, which is why he isn't as logic brain-oriented like Evie is (though, she's led by her heart mostly but denies it until the end, but that's another post in itself). This is partially why Jacob is single ship. When he gets into a relationship, he dedicates himself to the fullest extent and that bleeds into how I portray to him. That's how deep his loyalty runs.
This is why it's so interesting to me to compare main verse Jacob to his r.dr2 counterpart. Jacob sometimes feels more like an oc than Jacob, the canon character, but I try to portray him in a way main verse Jacob would depise. But while main verse Jacob would fight r.dr2 Jacob in a heart beat, he's still Jacob. He has a big heart like main verse Jacob, just grimed over with violence.
This doesn't excuse his behavior at all, he's definitely a callous and evil man, but he protects his own. He loves his own. He might not love the O'Driscolls so much, but I think somewhere deep in Jacob, there's room for redemption. He pinned a Pinkerton agent when he overhears Evie was possibly in danger, he doesn't attack women, and left a violent gang *before the O'Driscolls) because of their targeting of innocents and practically anyone without cause. Not that the O'Driscolls are any better, and Jacob turns out to be a bit of a hypocrite because he has killed innocents, but he tends to go after male VDLG members mainly. Mostly the top guys. I think underneath all of this, Jacob does feel a bit of regret and disguist with himself over his actions, even if he brushes it off as gang warfare and what needs to be done for him to rise to the top. Jacob can't ever run away from his big heart, even if it's rendered cold. It defrosts at some point, or another.

Reminder of Jacob in his r.dr2 verse:
Jacob was the gunman that knocked Arthur out during the O'Driscoll/Van der Linde peace meeting.
Jacob was the main leader in capturing Kieran from the Saint Denis camp. He was sent out by Colm and Jacob had no sympathy or care for Kieran to begin with. He was one of many that were cold and dismissive of Kieran. Jacob may or may not have done the whole... beheading.
Jacob acted as the "messenger" between Colm and the Pinkertons, which meant he likely directly spoke with Milton.

WHEN  DO  YOU  GET  YOUR  SOFT,  ITALICIZED  "OH" ?
* 𝐉𝐀𝐂𝐎𝐁 𝐅𝐑𝐘𝐄
THE LATE-NIGHT TALK
Tumblr media
Oh. you figure it out when you realize just how vulnerable they are willing to be with you. it isn't everybody who could or would stay up talking into the night with you, not with such affection or easy familiarity. it isn't everybody who is so understanding of you. it isn't everybody who could bare their soul to you in return. that kind of intimacy... it means deep foundations. it means comfort. it means trust. maybe it's a secret, maybe it's a story, maybe it's something you just never thought of before -- but they say something, late at night, and you realize all at once how remarkable they are, and how special it is to exist in the same time and space as them. "oh" indeed.

I know Evie has an official handwriting look because we can see her notebook entries in the game, but I tried to find a font super similar to this. I think this is probably one of the closest. I think Evie, as the perfectionist she is, tries to make all her handwriting clear and concise. Even if she's the only one looking over her own notebook entries, she has the instinct to make it as readable and professional as possible.
Tumblr media
Since Jacob in the 19th century, cursive was the writing style most people wrote in. Jacob still follows this, but I think Jacob's handwriting is more simplistic and less "professional". He writes quicker than Evie and spends less time trying to perfect his handwriting since Jacob doesn't like to spend his time writing. His handwriting is still neat, which shows Jaco has spent time perfecting his handwriting when he was younger.
Tumblr media
Sean! So Sean is illiterate, but I would imagine he learned how to write out his name in reform school. Supposedly Sean has official handwriting in the game files, but I don't think Sean cares for cursive writing at all lmao. "Why do I have to write in cursive when this works just as well?" he takes pride in his less eloquent handwriting. A lot of the retracing over his words is from his time practicing how to read and write. He has to commit the shape of what's his writing to memory.

it's commitment, it's devotion, it goes often without saying, but is felt nonetheless. it's accepting that you would travel to hell and back for them if they asked and knowing that they would do the same for you. i t's an old ache, long after they've burrowed deep into your chest and settled there like a weight- grounding, an anchor point. even when you're apart, you can still feel the shape of them, it's like phantom pain . neither of you can help but succumb to the other's gravity, yet neither of you fear the collision. it means that you trust them, that they make you feel safe, that they feel like home

Thinking about all of my muses that have a vampire verse and all of their individual thoughts on it
Hewlett: big religious guilt. Believes he's punished by God for a variety of reasons and thinks he is a monster or a demon. Just can't find any time to relax with the large hunger he has for blood in the beginning of his "transformation." (Not like they actually transform but it's he only word I can think of). A lot of guilt and I don't think he ever becomes fully comfortable, but he slowly accepts it because he has no other choice. Absolutely despises the "immortality" part.
Lydia: Already is a spy/working for the spy ring, so hiding a part of herself isn't new to her. She's more concerned about getting a constant blood source and tracking down the vampire in the Patriot camp that turned her (likely the same guy that turned Hewlett for consistancy sake). Indifferent towards it, finds both the pros and cons in it.
Evie: Is more in favor of it and it's all she's ever known. She likes the strengths it gives her and the time she has to really grow and develop as a person (and all the hobbies, projects, and activities she involves herself in). She isn't against manipulation or using people for blood because like I said, it's all she knows and sees it as a surivival necessity because if she doesn't drink blood: she will weaken and not survive. She also has the worst vampire "curse" with her wounds never healing.
Jacob F: It is all he has known but has found the flaws in it after all this time. He uses to really like it but finds it more a hassle with how he has to keep it under the wraps around everyone. He has to be extremely careful with not airing out the family's vampire secret to the townspeople. He finds that part to be incredibly draining. Doesn't like to manipulate people and hates he might have to do that to survive. Finds more cons in it than pros. Also has a strained relationship with his father and his sister, so that also has some part in his dislike of being a vampire. (Especially because he was young when it happened and didn't know better. Ethan didn't force it on them but really wanted all of his children to become vampires, so there is some peer pressure there and to "follow the family" and appease everyone).

wiiaca asked : How does Jacob feel about Colm having met his due during the Saint Denis hanging? -Soka, obviously.
Unprompted asks. / @wiiaca -- always accepting
I’m answering this ooc because Jacob would be a little grump about it and not go into much detail regarding this.
So, I sort of go into this topic here in this ask, but frankly, he isn’t crying over his gang leader’s death. Jacob’s place in the O’Driscolls was about money, yes, but what really drew him to it was their influence and notoriety-- or rather, Colm’s notoriety and influence. Jacob is ambitious, even if his father might not see that, but only when he feels passionate about something and becoming the next gang leader of the O’Driscolls is one of his passions. He wants to have control, to feel as if he proved himself, and all of the work he’s done throughout the years being a criminal wasn’t for nothing. It gained him something, even if it’s on the wrong side of the law.  Ethan, his father, and him are similar in the way that they want to gain respect, but in different ways, even if they both don’t want to admit this similarity.
Jacob has always been there for Colm. He is always one of the O’Driscolls that is there to save him from the noose, and he doesn’t care about it too much and does his job because he knows keeping Colm alive for a little longer serves him. When the O'Driscolls' luck runs out and Jacob feels like his place in the O’Driscolls is just a title, he has no benefits or privileges and Colm doesn’t give him an ounce of his time for all of the work he does, Jacob’s plan was to leave him to die there in Saint Denis. Jacob believes in his ability in a  gunfight but Colm went too far by thinking he’ll be able to escape the noose in Saint Denis with the heavy police presence there. So, Jacob was going to leave him to die and not feel regretful about it. This whole thing was a death sentence in itself and if the other two O’Driscoll members retaliated against him for not saving him, they would be easier to take care of than the police of Saint Denis and they wouldn’t be worth having around if they were going to be so loyal to Colm. So, he was going to take over the O’Driscolls gang with little remorse and a story that he did all he could to save Colm, but he went too far and he paid for it. He’ll make the gang better and give them a stronger leader and he would say Colm entrusted him with leading if things didn’t work out to soften the other members' view of their new leadership. (A British guy with a possible inheritance waiting for him in a group of majority Irish members? That wasn’t going to go well, even as he was Colm’s right hand man).
But, obviously, things did not go that way and the VLDG beat him to it and certified Colm’s death and with his initial hatred of Dutch stealing his train plan in the mountains, this new event soured his dislike for the rival gang even more. He’s still happy about Colm being dead but by it being the VDLG’s plan to see that Colm dead and how they succeded, it rubbed salt in the wound of their persistent feud. So I think this just pushes Jacob to target the gang further and gives him an additional reason for why he’s the O’Driscolls new leader. It sorta works out in his favor, but his pride is soured so he’s not a happy gang leader lmao.

Tw: violence mention
I mention a lot about Jacob’s disdain for the Van der Linde group, and once I get a better understanding of him and get him more grounded in the rdr2 universe, this may change a bit. But for now, this is where some of his morals lie, his own stance on the Van der Lindes at this moment.
In terms of the feud, Jacob’s mind is very black and white on it. You chose your side, now deal with the repercussions. If you were clueless on the feud, then it’s no one fault but your own for getting involved in this.
Jacob does believe the act of Van der Linde killing Colm’s brother was uncalled for, but he doesn’t endorse the murder of Annabelle, though he can slightly see the logic behind it. Jacob will not go after a woman, in this verse, so he will not go after any of the women in the camp. Even though Jacob and Evie haven’t been as close in the later years, they were close once and this strongly influences that moral.
Going after the other members, Jacob just sees it as typical gang warfare, but he does have his own grudges against Dutch and his group. In Colter, Jacob was the one that founded that train robbery and collaborated with Colm on it, and when the gang ambushed the O’Driscoll camp, Jacob was with Colm and left for other matters. Though, Colm still sees fault in Jacob for this, once suspecting that Jacob is a turncoat with how it was so convenient he was not in the area when they attacked. Because of this, Colm starts to distance himself from Jacob and give him minuscule, easy tasks to keep him busy and out of the gang’s greater jobs.
If Jacob is to gun down any of the Van der Linde member’s higher-ups, then Colm’s trust may turn. Thus, giving him more leverage over the gang on being Colm’s right-hand man and giving him more loyalty from the gang once he would become a leader.
In terms of Kieran, Jacob will likely rush at him or try to scare him, sneak up behind and tell him to keep his wits about him if he doesn’t want to be the O’Driscolls next victim. Unless instructed by Colm himself or if Kieran was in camp whenever Jacob would ambush the place, he doesn’t see the need to go after him as much. Yes, Colm might be happy, but Jacob still doesn’t see why he would waste his blade on Kieran. Kieran was a stablehand, yes that’s crucial to the gang to keep their horses in check, but he’s easily replaceable. He doesn’t know as much as Jacob would on the O’Driscolls, he suspected Kieran might know a few hideouts, but nothing Jacob would know (since he would have a greater idea on Colm’s plans). The O’Driscolls have greater things to focus on than to go after some stablehand that’s weak in Jacob’s eyes. That doesn’t mean Kieran isn’t fully off Jacob’s radar.
Jacob would definitely go after Arthur, Javier, Bill, Dutch, Hosea, Sean, Pearson, John, etc. Typically, the big wigs in the gang that has been there for the longest. He doesn’t know about Trelawny because Trelawny’s appearances in camp are so sporadic and I feel like Trelawny has a knack for covering his trails. Jacob would go after Micah, though, even though he is fairly new to the gang, mostly because Micah is close to Dutch and he has some notoriety on him with the Strawberry jailbreak.
In my muses, he wouldn’t go after Cassie, maybe not Robert or Charley. These two literally have little to no notoriety to their name (previous of chapter six), they look like farmhands, and aren’t threatening in the slightest. He doesn’t even hear much about them in the grape vine. He’s more likely to scam them out of their money because he perceives them as easy to manipulate. If they are involved in an ambush, he has no problem murdering them then though, or when he’s provoked by them.
Eleanor, though, he typically wouldn’t care about her that much, she’s just a reporter, but if she’s spotted in camp or noted as having a connection to Dutch -- he’s going to be interested in getting information out of her.
With wyntrd’s Jack the Ripper’s rdr2 verse and his involvement in the ripper gang in his past, Jacob sees their actions as immoral. They targeted people practically without reason. With the Van der Lindes, Jacob doesn’t see as much issue because they chose to be with them, they chose to associate with criminals. People Jack would go after rarely had any criminal affiliation, he was just being cold-blooded. Jacob sees himself as having a just reason for his killings.
With Lilith’s involvement in his rdr2 verse, typically Jacob does have a change of character when I write with that oc, so some of these thoughts may change, his anger may decrease and be less violent towards them. I’ll make another post about that if that occurs since we’re just starting in this verse with them.

This is bound to be added onto or changed in some small ways, but here are some additional tidbits to Jacob’s r.dr2 verse. These are all added to Jacob’s bio.
Jacob was the O’Driscoll that knocked out Arthur during the peace treaty between Dutch and Colm (“Blessed are the Peacemakers”). For obvious reasons of being alive in the later game, Jacob was not around when Arthur escaped.
Jacob does have a tie to Milton, but it isn’t a long connection/interaction. Unlike Jacob, Robert is an active informant/rat for around two chapters in the main game, Jacob’s connection only lasts for two meetings and ends right after that and when Arthur escapes. Colm essentially sends Jacob out to deal with the Pinkerton stuff, Colm being involved in the very beginning meeting to bring upon this idea to Agent Milton. He’s there to give any updates, to work with the deal set, and to give word to Milton from Colm or Milton to Colm if needed. Jacob visits Milton for the last time to deliver their foiled plan. (I try not to overlap and overuse events that separate all my muses with a r.dr2 verse apart. Jacob has a very negative opinion of Milton but does it to et into Colm’s good graces).
Jacob will go after VDGL members. Mostly because he is an O’Driscoll and Colm would give him shit if he didn’t at least engage in an attack on their enemy. Jacob actually thinks getting rid of the VDGL will ease any worries of the VDLG getting their hands on his and the O’Driscoll’s plans. This is heightened after the train robbery in Colter that the VDLG took over.
Jacob is basically Colm’s right-hand man if he sees him worthy enough at the time. (I have a headcanon that Colm would pick favorites. Just go through a rotation of people that are classified as his right-hand man, especially how he chooses quantity over quality). Despite being a right-hand, Jacob does not like Colm. He is only looking to be the next leader of the O’Driscolls.
Jacob’s birthdate is changed. He is 26 in 1899, in the main game.
Jacob has joined other gangs before the O’Driscolls. He has been in a strict rustler gang, an outlaw gang, a gang that chooses bank robberies over train robberies, and more, but they have never been the size of the O’Driscolls or the notoriety of them.

I got this headcanon idea over sharing tidbits about Jacob and Lilith with a specific with deadlyarccna, so a lot of Lilith & Jacob influence went into this. This is most prominent in his main verse, this may bleed into or have a strand of similarity in Jacob’s other verses (most specifically his action-orientated verses: rdr2 & pirate).
Jacob pretty universally is pinned as the brawler, the fighter, and he speaks a lot of his likeness for the rough and tough area of a good brawl. He knows the art of stealth, can see some usage of it and is trained for it, but he much prefers running into a stronghold with brass knuckles and being four to one.
Growing up, in complete dismissal of any education by his father, Jacob hung around gambling dens and factories. I’m sure Jacob did get some teachings from his father (or even George Westhouse) and he just honed these skills out in town to reach the ranking of a master assassin. While out and about, Jacob would often get into fights and with the talk of being around gambling dens -- a fistfight is very possible. (I didn’t see anything about this written in the wiki, I think I read it over in the novel on the game, but I swear this fighting in his childhood was mentioned somewhere for Jacob).
This interest in fighting increases once the Frye Twins travel to London. What I’m really getting at here, is that while Jacob takes a lot of liking in fighting Templars -- I think after the Assassins gain leverage over London and the Templars are pushed out of the control seat, it’s hard for Jacob to settle down for a while. Especially now that the isn't working towards a goal of freeing London from their rule, that's a major part for him.
Of course, Evie and Jacob help out the Queen, Jacob has his Rooks, but there isn’t as much of a threat. They still have to do assassin-duties and the like, help out London as best they can without compromising the Brotherhood, but Jacob never thought too far into his future. Templars were going to go down, that was his whole goal here, but he never fully grasped the idea of not always fighting Templars. This realization hits him like a brick wall. Jacob’s lost for a while and it takes a lot of adjusting to move into a less action-packed life. Now, he has more thinking time of a family, what he really wants to gain out of life, etc. When he moved out of Crowley, there wasn’t much thought of the future, because, after Ethan’s death, the Frye Twins were determined to go to London. Jacob wishes he paid more attention when he first moved to London, to really soak up that newcomer feel. All his mind, in terms of memories, mostly focuses on assassin work, and well, of course, nights at a pub.

vahru asked : sunflower for jacob
𝐁𝐎𝐓𝐀𝐍𝐈𝐂𝐀𝐋 𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐃𝐂𝐀𝐍𝐎𝐍𝐒. / @vahru -- accepting
sunflower :   what brings your muse the most joy in life ?
Oh god, across all verses it would be alcohol and money, likely. Well, adventures and a good brawl, as well.
In Jacob’s main verse, his Rooks, his sister (despite their arguments), and Lilith. Unless you look at my threads with deadlyarccna or look at Jacob’s bio, you might not know much about Lilith, but Jacob really really likes her. I think all of those things bring him the most joy in life. At most, Jacob is the happiest and easy to be joyful in his main verse.
In his vampire verse, I think he is probably the least happy. I think Jacob gets bored often because he’s lived so long, he’s practically seen everything in town, to its development, to its decline, to its new designs, and overall history. He’s not necessarily interested in looking back in its history because he was there for most of it, and it would be used for nostalgia purposes. Jacob doesn’t brawl as much as he does in his main verse, because his strength would draw too much attention (and he’s worried he’ll actually kill someone), so a lot of his past time is spent doing odd jobs, helping his father or Evie, poker, pool games at a bar, and drinking. Jacob drinks the most alcohol in his verse because he wants to numb the feeling of boredom. It’s rather bleak for him in this verse, but I would say the rush of newity and adrenaline makes him feel the most joy. Immortality makes many things not as interesting to him, like he practically has seen it all, so he likes to travel, learn, and look over new technology.
Pirate verse: Really similar to his main verse, he likes the simple but costly pleasures in life. Adrenaline and brawls are still his interest, but he is more into what he can get away with. He enjoys the unstereotypical life, he likes not necessarily having a direction or long-term goals, as in living on the edge. He doesn’t want normality, he more of wants to test himself to see how far he can get in life without sticking to the same job.
Western verse: Seeing his progress with the O’Driscolls. I think in a group of majority Irish, Jacob is met with a lot of distrust and backlash (though Jacob could really care less about politics unless it suits him directly, he does have a warped, very pro-British view from his father whether he admits it or not). Jacob does not like Colm O’Driscoll at all, his methods are a bit too violent for him, but Jacob is far more reckless and is more violent than he is in his main verse. So, making Colm happy and being more successful with his jobs and earnings compared to his coworkers brings him the most joy. He wants people to see he’s capable, more than capable actually. He thrives on earning respect and recognition within the O’Driscolls. (Maybe, just maybe, becoming the next gang leader? Perhaps?).

( ooc ): hmmm thinking about Jacob's self doubt/humbleness in his main verse and while he has confidence in his own assassination method and how it's a contrast to what's usually taught, he's not used to being praised because of how he was always seen in the shadow of Evie growing up. Evie was always the better one, she was more intelligent, proficient. She was practically untouchable in how expectations are weighed.
Also thinking of how Evie's whole habit of having to fix Jacob's messes and how she usually intervenes at some point is a way for her to feel like she has some control in her chaotic situation in London. Their father just died, Evie is still searching for the Piece of Eden with little success and meeting more dead ends, the threat of Templar's influence over London.

archaeval asked : daffodil :   is your muse one to be loyal in relationships,   or are they likely to quickly move from one bond to another ? // jacob
Botanical Headcanons. / @archaeval -- accepting
So, Jacob is my only muse that is single-ship for romantic shipping. The rest of my muses are multi-ship and usually, I have at least two ships for almost every muse, so this blog generally is multi-ship oriented, but I might not be able to give a very detailed answer for this because Jacob is single shipped lmao.
Jacob as a character, generally, I don’t see him being a rambling man or anything. He may have a few flings, FWBs, one night stands, but when Jacob is in a romantic relationship, it’s a commitment. He wouldn’t get into a relationship with someone if he didn’t love them or feel very fondly for them. So in Jacob’s au verses (that usually are originated from the Lilith/Jacob ship), even if he’s not dating Lilith by default in those verses, he will be labeled “single” but not open to a romantic relationship and won’t toy with one. (Other than maybe a relationship in the past for drama, but depending on the verse, I see Lilith as his first serious relationship).
