some vibes that i absolutely think need to be explored in a dnd thread (bc baldur's gate 3 has the lot of us CAUGHT!)

first, characters sitting by the campfire. cooking a nice meal with the supplies they've gathered along the way. maybe they use a very highly sought-after ration as a treat after a long day, like cream or fresh meat or a spice of some sort. they sit around the blaze together, and tell stories of their earlier travels, adding ingredients to the meal and fuel to the fire, and bonding as they discuss what's next in their shared adventure.

i also love the potential of them walking together along a long, winding country road! maybe they pick some flowers idly, or for each other, or maybe they find herbs or vegetables or fruits to add to their supplies. maybe they overhear footsteps up ahead and have to decide between keeping to the path or rushing into the nearby stream to avoid being seen or smelled. perhaps they have a horse, or two horses, or even a carriage, or maybe they're just walking along together. they could discuss what's next in a journey, or their choices from earlier encounters. if we think of roads as liminal spaces, this is an opportunity for many things to be happening, from a fallen tree blocking the road, to the road forking at a junction in the woods, or enemies/allies travelling along the same path, or even a side quest of sorts awaiting them in the woods!

character A meets character B when they're wounded and unconscious, and brings them back to their camp, either out of fear of what might happen if they don't, or for concern for B, or maybe they recognize them from somewhere! they nurse them back to health, and have to fend off attacks along the way because B is too weak to retaliate, and ultimately it leads to a curious bond where neither are willing to separate from the other, but they also don't know nearly enough about each other to understand what makes them trust each other so much.

the last one for this post: the two characters have travelled a long way. they're tired and weary, battered and bruised from past battles, and they find themselves in a merry kingdom that welcomes them heartily to a party, where they get to eat and rest and bathe and dress in finery and attend a ball together. and this may sound romantically leaning, but i also think it works in a platonic sense or a parental sense, because i think the concept of watching someone you've grown to care about finally laugh and smile and enjoy themselves after a long, brutal journey, is smth that would make many people very happy. and they get pulled to their feet for a dance, and this night of levity and merriment, as beautiful as it is, still inspires a transformation in the journey. perhaps the more experienced or worn-out of the two decides to slip away in the middle of the night, leaving a letter that begs the other to stay where they're happy and safe and allow them to finish the journey alone. or maybe they're about to leave but the other character intercepts. like there's so many outcomes for this one besties!!

building bonds with ren that aren't necessarily about our muses. like. consider making him a problem in another dynamic you have etc. throwing him under the bus is my favorite thing. or consider a "group rp" like. this is an idea i've had for ages but i still can't put it to words.

say you have a muse that is part of the astral express and they're on good terms with ren. what the fuck do you do about dan heng huh? obviously their loyalty lies with him, right? give me angst and issues and pain and funny silly lil confusing dynamics

or say your muse is dating dan heng/jingyuan/jingliu (etc) but for some reason is on good terms with ren. this one is tricky and would mainly work with someone he already knows like from the past cause i.e hcq members or ocs etc that were around back then.

consider involvement with the ipc, bonding with him only to find out one of his previous casualties were your muses friends/family

MAIN VERSE

'YOU HAVE TO BE VERY DESPERATE TO COME TO ME FOR HELP' can work both ways. shady business deals, desperate contracts, all of that. when the official routes fail, you turn to the worst yet most efficient service providers.

(BEGRUDGINGLY) WORKING TOGETHER FROM DIFFERENT MORAL POINTS whether it's more casual like sharing knowledge on scientific endeavors, or more serious like uniting together against a common threat. the enemy of my enemy is my (temporary) friend.

APPRENTICE-TYPE DYNAMICS can also work either way. archer is a medical doctor capable of training someone in the field or with the forensic pathology and autopsy things and is a great teacher. but he's also still young, and could get good advice from someone older and more experienced.

SPARRING/GUN CONTROL/MARTIAL ARTS TRAINING related to the previous. just study under him. it's worth the horrors.

UNLIKELY FRIENDSHIPS obviously they're great. especially if, again, it's two people from completely different moral standpoints but somehow they just get along great, and everyone around them is shocked about it.

'WE DONT NECESSARILY LIKE EACH OTHER BUT OUR POKÉMON DO SO WE NEED TO KEEP MEETING UP BECAUSE THEY GET SAD OTHERWISE' very specific but funny subspecies of possibly unlikely friendships.

PRE-ESTABLISHED (platonic) DYNAMICS example of two people who used to be friends a decade or more ago meeting accidentally and finding out what that kid they used to play with in the forest grew up to become.

FELLOW CRIMINALS whether they're rivals or coexisting or offering each other valuable assets to gain something in return. all good.

OUTSIDE MAIN VERSE

PRE ROCKET/PRE EXECUTIVE ERA he was a scruffy and rebellious little bastard and hates it personally when anyone reminds him of it (or in general is even aware of it).

HGSS ERA AND ESPECIALLY THE AFTERMATH this is undoubtedly the lowest point. note that replies in this verse will take longer than my regular because the mindset is a heavy one to get into.

THE ROCKET BOSS VERSE the mantle is passed down from giovanni, undoubtedly causing some growing pains at the start. very ripe for fellow villain interactions (and others).

i do love the idea of people applying to work at the diner and they come in and people are on their best behavior for like five minutes, and it's clear that aisling and stanley both sat and talked with the squad that morning bc "we need to stop this shite of cutting grilled cheese with longswords and buying antique china cups-- anthony i'm not fucking around, the petty cash is for little things, you spent $9,000 on teacups."

meanwhile the kids decide to sit at the booths and do their homework together so there's less room for customers, but advik decides to bring in some pigeons from outside "because we have some left over seeds and nuts from the cinnamon honey granola" and aisling has to close down the diner for three days to clean up and add another rule to the list that's posted on the group chat.
