The “red tsunami” predicted by some pundits turned out to be a “pink trickle”.
Votes are still being counted and results are still coming in. And there may be runoff elections in a few places to determine the final outcomes. But the results tended to be better for Democrats than many dour pollsters and pundits had been prognosticating.
I’ll have more comments over the next few days. But here is a quick take from columnist Moira Donegan at The Guardian.
It was not supposed to be this close. Midterms are always hard for the party in power. In the past, when Democrats have faced a midterm election when they controlled both the White House and Congress, the Republicans had a blowout.
In 1994, during Bill Clinton’s first term, Republicans gained huge margins in the house. In 2010, it was even bigger. Joe Biden has proved to be a president with little of his own constituency and few legislative achievements to show for his first two years of unified government, thanks in no small part to how narrow Democrats’ majorities were in Congress in 2020. Meanwhile, inflation is at roughly 8%. It was supposed to be a blowout night for the Democrats, the kind of humiliation that sent the Biden administration a firm rebuke. It wasn’t.
It’s not that there were no disappointments. There were some painful losses for Democrats: the odious Peter Thiel acolyte JD Vance has won a Senate seat in Ohio; candidates that perennially capture the imagination and hope of national democrats, like Beto O’Rourke and Stacey Abrams, lost.
But Republican margins are narrow, and even when the party had the wind at their back. Trump-backed, election-denying candidates did poorly; so did those who most vocally oppose abortion rights. The Republican party is in disarray, unable to quit Trump, but unable to thrive while anchored to him. If they do end up winning a majority, they will do so weakened and vulnerable.
For now, just one result that I’m particularly happy about. In Pennsylvania a Jewish Democrat defeated a notorious semi-fascist Trump Republican in the race for governor.

more Splatoon oc lore dump because I am yet again bored
Tsunami’s turn this time:
-21 years old as of Splat3
-was promoted to captain about a year before RotM, so when she was 20. She didn’t exactly want it, but also felt bad about saying no, so she accepted it. She’s a bit more comfortable with it now.
-as previously said, she’s Four’s cousin. They’re the only member of her family she talks to anymore.
-refuses to talk to/about her bio family; made Four(and eventually Eight) promise to keep their mouths shut about it. She considers the NSS her only family.
-used to be pretty good at skateboarding, but stopped when she got a car
-her design is based on the purpleback flying squid, so she’s got big ears, thinner tentacles, and a lankier build than the others. Still pretty average height though.
-ran track throughout school, so she’s a fast runner and a high jumper
-is in absolutely no way a morning person
-no major side effects of the sanitization, just discoloration and partial loss of feeling in that side of her face, and it goops a bit when she’s stressed or having flashbacks(I guess that probably counts as major, I need to reevaluate my personal definition of major I think lmao)
-does dj and producer work under the name Sango
-herself, Four, and Ivory are a band(?), occasionally Ika joins too
-she covers up her scars during performances, but the makeup will irritate her sanitization scar if left on for too long
-otherwise she doesn’t really care too much about her appearance
-Callie and Marie treat her like their sister, general sibling lighthearted harassment included
-acts almost completely different depending on whether she's being a captain, a dj, or a regular person. She's either stoic and commanding, charismatic, or a complete nerd/cringefail squid. Also depends on who she’s with
-has a slight aggression/threatening problem
-shocked/scared Cuttlefish and the Squid Sisters with her combat skills("are we sure this child is as unexperienced as she says she is?")
-mains shooters, but can use just about anything. a very quick and precise fighter who just wants to end the fight however necessary(unless she's sparring, then she'll drag it out for fun)
-has to pretend she has a bunch of special-related gear abilities to hide her ability to use them whenever, otherwise she doesn't mind or notice it most of the time
-she enjoys cooking quite a bit. she even learned a few Octarian dishes to impress Ivory before they started dating
-she can sing, but won’t unless she’s alone or with Ivory; rarely puts her own vocals into songs
-absolutely positively does not have issues trusting/opening up to people /s
-has a horrendous sleep schedule
-in general pretty emotionally distant
-changed her name when she moved to Inkopolis(only Four and Eight know what her real one is)
I do have a bit more, but I kinda wanna keep it a secret for now >;3c
and there's probably other stuff that fell out of my head while writing all this that I'll remember later lmao

The Dragonets of Destiny
I Originally did this for Smaugust day 1 “from a book” except it took way too long so i’ve decided i am not doing Smaugust lol
ive always wanted to draw the dragonets and iron out my designs for them and im super happy with how this turned out. maybe ill do a pt 2 and 3 with the povs from the other arcs…?
you are welcome to use my designs as long as you credit me :)
design notes:
Coming from a blood-red egg, Clay is immune to damage from fire. Instead of becoming scarred he develops faint swirl-markings across his scales as marks of his ability to withstand intense heat. He has hazel eyes that appear more green in contrast to his warm coloring.
Tsunami is covered in scars from the many battles she’s been through, including ripped fins, burnt gills, and slashes all over her body. She offsets her worn intimidating appearance with ropes of pearls around her horns; gifts from her mom in the kingdom of the sea. After Clay she is the largest of the dragonets.
Glory is noticeably duller than most RainWings, and tends to keep her coloring in the green-blue spectrum. She too is covered in scars, but unlike the other dragonets these are not marks from battle but rather evidence of Kestrel’s hatred. Being a very humble queen, she prefers to keep her attire simple: a crown of flowers and silver hoop earrings.
Starflight wears glasses, and instead of being fully blinded by lava in the volcano he was partially blinded by the intense light which permanently damaged his eyes. He can only pick up light, dark, and the shapes of objects and other dragons. He is covered in scars along his side from the volcano, but was lucky enough to have Clay shield his head from any of the damage.
Sunny is the smallest of the five, and her bright coloring is noticeably very different from the usual pale sandy grey of most SandWing’s. Her eyes are a very very dark green, and she wears an amber teardrop earring; a gift from her mother in the kingdom of the sand as a reminder of her home. Her adopted brother Qibli has one very similar. She is noticeably the least scarred of the dragonets, as she was able to use her small size to wiggle out of battles.

part 16 - but I know where to start
“Feeling my way through the darkness, guided by a beating heart. I can’t tell where the journey will end, but I know where to start.” -Wake Me Up by Avicii
Regent Masterlist Part 15
Tumblr media
Was it a cop-out to summon Jazz back to the Far Frozen? Yes. Did Danny particularly care? Nope!
Jason was comfortable, propped up with a book Ghostwriter who had popped by to personally deliver. How the ghost had known about Jason Phantom wasn’t going to question, but he suspected GW kept an eye on the bookworms that passed through the Realms- or at least those close to the “Royal family”. Phantom wasn’t much for reading, not unless it was space-related, but he enjoyed listening to the Liminal man reading out loud. He had a brash voice, accented with a cadence like those from Crime Alley, but it only underscored the passion he held for reading. Phantom didn’t interrupt him once, not even when the halfa pulled out his ecto-phone and texted Ellie.
(His little sister was in Kansas, spending time with another clone she’d literally run into.)
Almost another full day's cycle passed before Phantom realized Jason had fallen back asleep, a book resting open on his broad chest and soft snores coming from the man.
Yeah, he could see how he and Jazz fit together so well.
There was just something about the Once-Revenant, a part of what made him Jason, that resonated with the Phantom. It’s what made him talk to the man as Red Hood, feel comfortable enough to stay in his company for so long, trust him with his older sister- the person who raised him.
(Spent her birthday money to get him those cheap plastic glow-in-the-dark stars.)
(Taught him how to read.)
(Held him as the nightmares of his death shook him to his core.)
(Did not fear him.)
(Not as Phantom, Danny, or Dan.)
(Loves him.)
(Mourns him.)
(He would never tell her, but he understood how Dan could succumb to grief.)
(Jazz was his.)
(His first friend, his true mother, his rock.)
(She wouldn’t have claimed Regency without that tie.)

Safely back in the living Realm and tucked away in Jason’s apartment, Jazz and Danny tried to investigate the bomb- unfortunately there was nothing for them to do but wait.
On the upside, the Justice League was about to hit the UN full force with all the subtlety of a tsunami and who had front row seats to the drama?
Yep, the Regent.  Jazz wasn’t exactly thrilled that her presence was requested, even though it was on the path to the desired outcome the Nightingale siblings had fought for, but both her soulmate boyfriend and little brother would be by her side as support.

The abolishment of the Anti-Ecto Acts officially happened at three pm on a dreary Gotham Tuesday. Jazz was cuddled with Jason on his couch, dozing off to his heartbeat as he read Pride and Prejudice for the thousandth time. The comfortable silence they had wrapped themselves in only occasionally broken by Jason turning a page was completely shattered when Jazz’s phone rang with the Ghostbusters theme song.
“Danny?” Jazz answered surprised, “School isn’t out yet, what’s wrong?” She was greeted by Danny’s heaving cries as he replied.
“Batman, he- he did it!” Danny sobbed, “He saved us.”
It clicked then. The Dark Knight had completed the task he was entrusted with by a Spirit of Protection, the Once and Future Star King, and unknowingly kept the promise a ghost made to a young Jasmine Fenton.
One day my son will stop this. All of this. You only need to be strong. Take care of yourself and your brother. I promise.
She had waited years for the promise to be fulfilled, the sworn promise of the dead to a living child. Jasmine was a patient soul, but she had still been a child that night in Gotham.
(The Drs. Fenton believing the stories about a ghostly vigilante patrolling the streets, a never aging child by their side.) (Dragging their children with them. ) (Hungry and cold.) (A dead man who swore his son would end their torment one day.)
(She should’ve known it wouldn’t come fast enough to save Danny.)
How was she to know the ghost was speaking of the Realms inhabitants, not the abused and neglected children of Ghost Hunters? How was she to know that the hope such a promise kindled wasn’t hers to keep?  Jason wrapped his arms around her, the book set aside and her phone gently taken from her grasp to be put on speaker so they could both talk to her little brother. Danny had dissolved from heaving sobs to muffled hiccups, seemingly now that he’d shared the news with his sister.
“He really did,” she muttered. “He really did it.”
(The furry fucker actually did it.) (She’d known that he was going to try, but humans are stubborn creatures.)

A/N: Hi! Welcome to an update for the Regent. Just to be fully transparent with each of my readers - The Regent is still on Hiatus.
I have deleted so much of my writing because I don't like the flow/dialogue/pacing. Original ending thrown out and rewritten twice- still don't care for it. Who knew something other than Angst would be so difficult.
(Not me!)
Having said that, this entry is of course beta'd by the wonderful @meditating-cat who has put up with my random messages.
(You are amazing!)
(In all honesty, I wish I could just skip right to the ending because at least I know 100% I can get it just right....eventually.)
Thanks for reading and happy easter!

Welcome to Anna wants to write a color meta because she noticed Buck's shirt in 710 was blue.
Okay, so, a while back I was rewatching the tsunami arc, as one does, and I noticed the way that madney has "we want kids someday" conversation while wearing blue and red. That also happens to be the color combo bathena was wearing while Athena says they don't want more kids. That's also the color Buck and Eddie are wearing during the "there's nobody in this world I trust with my son more than you" or the scene where we establish that Chris is Buck's too.
Tumblr media
And I just thought to myself, huh, cool thing to add to the arc, and moved with my life, until I noticed the amount of blue and red surrounding henren's "we want more kids" arc because then it becomes a color combo about parenting, which is an interesting combo to have.
But using the rules I usually use, that everything is about every element of the scene, not just the clothes, they actually start establishing that during 218 when they decide on the IVF and it continues to be used through the IVF and into the fostering arc. Like when they are talking to Athena about the changes a new baby will bring in 304, when they get Nia in 311. And it's also an element during the Mara plot in season 7.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There's also the way madney finds out they are pregnant in red and blue.
Tumblr media
But there are things like the blue and red elements in 516 when we get May calling Bobby her dad.
Tumblr media
Because the thing with the suspenders is that we are usually seeing the yellow part of them, even in other moments during mayday, the yellow bit is a lot more prominent, so they made the choice to put Bobby's like that, so he would have that blue and red on him.
Tumblr media
This got me thinking, because while I was making my buddie in every episode set for 303, I realized the way that Christopher's glasses work in a similar way. (Also, how many color theory moments can I use this scene in? Apparently all of them lol) Even the sirens and the way they give Buck a blue phone.
Tumblr media
And it's also interesting that Eddie is wearing blue and Buck gives him the glasses, so Buck doesn't have the red anymore, but we have the blue and red from the truck and the background, and then Chris himself becomes the red element and Buck's background is suddenly blue elements. There's also the way Eddie is holding blue gloves throughout the whole scene.
Tumblr media
And Chris continues to contribute to the color combo later because his glasses and crutches are red and his shirt has blue in it. His backpack is also blue.
Tumblr media
So, a very prominent color combo during the arc that establishes the co-parenting.
But I thought they kept the blue and red aspect during 710 just with Chris' backpack because I thought Buck's shirt was black. But his shirt is blue.
Tumblr media
So, yeah, they had Buck there as Eddie's co-parent. We knew that but... colors.
As always, if you read this, I love you.

birthday present
Tumblr media
yunho x female reader
rating: m
genre: birthday smut
w.c.: 1.7k
warnings: sex, sex in the bathroom, mentions of alcohol and being drunk
summary: this is for a beautiful anon who mentioned an idea like this back in MARCH lol. I switched it around a bit which I hope is okay. yunho gives y/n some sweet sweet morning sex for her birthday <3
Neon lights, sugared liquor and the raging heat of euphoric bodies. The music was god awful and the drinks tasted as cheap as they were, but your friends were celebrating your birthday. How could you complain? Stumbling home at 3am, your broken left heel in hand, you were missing four red press-on nails, and the walls of the apartment seemed to be melting around you. Swaying and crashing into every obstacle in your path, you found the bedroom dark. The gentle sound of Yunho’s deep breaths filling the otherwise quiet space. Oh boy, were you wasted! But your subconscious reminded you to be quiet while the love of your life was sleeping so angelically. Removing your heels and stepping out of a dress two sizes too small, you crawled into the bed as cautiously as you could before immediately passing out.
Traffic and that dreadful chirping of birds invaded your dreams. Your eyes fluttered open only to be shocked by the morning sun’s orange light. You groaned, stretching your body and stuffing your face under the pillow; it was like one of those symbols playing monkeys was pounding against your skull. The mattress around you shifted and you skunk deeper into it as the weight of a 185cm man fell upon your legs.
His hands grabbed your bare breasts, pushing them together and then watching them bounce back into place. “Late night, huh?” His voice was still heavy with sleep.
Bare boobs, you thought, the images of the night before flooding back in a tsunami of vodka and vomit. “Am I at least wearing panties?” You asked, disappointed in your life choices up to this point.
His hands ran down your thighs to your hips, patting them with amusement. “Nope.”
“Well that’s unfortunate,” you pulled your head out from under the pillow.
He was staring down at you in all his morning glory; messy, curly hair and puffy eyes. “Wow, babe, you look beautiful.”
“Oh god,” you pushed him off you, raising on your knees to look into the mirror on the wall across from the bed. Mascara was everywhere but your lashes. Your lipstick was gone, only your lip liner remained making you look like a clown. And someone had written your new age on your cheeks in Sharpie. “Oh god!” You jumped off the bed and ran to the bathroom with lightning speed, smearing cleanser all over your face and scrubbing. He watched you butt jiggle as you ran.
He came into the bathroom after you, wrapping his arms around your waist, looking at you in the mirror. You splashed cold water on your face. A faint outline of sharpie remained and you knew you wouldn’t be able to rid yourself of it without ripping off your skin. “I like it,” he said over your shoulder. “Now, I won’t forget how old you are.”
You laughed sarcastically. “Sharpie cannot be good for your skin,” you dabbed your face with a washcloth.
“I seriously doubt it,” he rested his chin on your shoulder, angling his face to press lips against your neck.
“Hm,” you put the cloth down and turned in his arms. “What’s this?”
“I have a present for you,” he smiled, kissing up your neck.
You raised a lazy brow. “Oh really?”
“Oh, yes, I’ve been working on it for twenty-three years.”
“God, please don’t tell me it’s you-”
“It’s me!” He gripped your waist, lifting you to sit on the cold, granite countertop.
His lips were on your jaw now, sucking to leave little red marks. “At least let me brush my teeth,” you offered. “I can’t promise you that I didn’t puke last night.”
But he was relentless against your jaw, moving to the corner of your mouth, like he couldn’t hear the words you were saying. Fine, you relaxed into his touch, placing your hands on the soft skin of his waist.
Hands dragged down your thighs, resting on your knees, spreading them apart. You pulled him in, eager to feel his warmth. His lips were now on your cheek and one of his hands moved up to press against your folds. He hadn’t even started yet and already you were putty in his hands. Your headache pushed to the back of your mind.
“I’m liking this present,” your hands gripped his hair, urging his lips to yours.
His tongue ran against your bottom teeth and he was now holding your ass so firmly that you were fully pushed against him, barely touching the counter. You wrapped your legs around him and grazed your teeth against his neck.
His dick was pressed firmly against your ass and you needed it inside you. You reached a hand down, angling him. “Kinda needy for this present, huh?”
“Baby,” your brow pressed against his. “You have no idea.”
He chuckled, warm breath against your face. “Anything for you, birthday girl.”
Your ass cheeks met the cold stone again but your legs remained crossed behind his back. Six press-on nails gripped the edge of the counter as you felt his tip brush against your clit. Your hips jolted slightly. “I feel like this is my birthday present,” he joked.
You bit your bottom lip and looked up at him through thick lashes. You couldn’t help yourself! This man had you wrapped around his little finger, desperate for his every touch. He was just so perfect in every way. Compassionate, funny, and generous, Yunho was everything a birthday girl could ask for.
He rocked his shaft against your clit and your head lulled back against the mirror. He continued to rock against you, collecting your sticky slick as he moved.
Your legs were flexed from the pressure building up in your stomach and the sheer amount of effort you were putting into gripping the counter. The veins in your flushed neck pressed against your skin. His cock wasn’t even in you and you were going to come.
Your walls began to flutter, desperate for something to clench around. “Put it in,” you whined, but he just continued to rock against you.
You were so warm and fuzzy, the violent wave of your orgasm crashed down upon your senses. Her rubbed his thumbs against the supple skin of your inner thighs as you shivered through your climax. “Fuck,” you breathed, nodding for him to actually start fucking you.
You had grown to love the burn of his thick cock pushing into you. It hurt in a pleasurable way that brought tears to your eyes. He pulled on your legs, pulling one to rest up on his shoulder and pushing the other to your side. “Hold this?” He asked.
If you weren’t so desperate for his dick, you would have mocked him for that dumb line but you didn’t have time for that. You just wanted him to fuck your brains out and then do it again. So, you held your own leg back for him.
Gripping your hips, he could push deeper at this angle, hit that spongy bit that had you seeing stars. He moved slowly, teasing you, his pelvis fully flush with yours.
Even these gentle strokes had you breathing heavily, your chest rising and falling dramatically. Picking up the pace, his balls slapped against your ass. The drag, that delicious drag of his cock against your aching walls. The sounds in that small bathroom were vile and hot.
You were just moaning constantly. Your breaths leaving your mouth in a constant, deep moan.
“Shit.” He pushed his body down on yours, deepening the angle even more. “You have the best pussy, baby.”
You couldn’t even respond, totally focused on the sensations he was making your body feel.
He moved even faster now, ramming into the same spot inside of you over and over. The tears were rolling down your cheeks now. It just felt so good. His hands fell to circle your clit and you were spiraling. A complete mess, you couldn’t even grip the counter anymore, your free hand moving to his wrist. Your head was knocking against the mirror with every thrust but you didn’t notice.
“Fuck, Yunho, right there!” He had found the spot that had you clamping your eyes shut and bucking your hips into his. Your moans had become short and high pitched; needy, needy, needy.
He was grunting now, slamming into your hips at a terribly fast and deep rate. His dick twitched inside of you and you knew he was holding back his own climax.
His fingers applied more pressure to your clit and the world faded away. White danced behind your eyelids. Your legs trembled and your body lurched as you were still being rammed into the counter. He was completely flat against you, lips on your neck as he came in you, thrusting a few final times.
“God, present, that was amazing,” you breathed. He was still twitching inside you.
“It was twenty-three years in the making,” he spoke against your sweaty neck.
You wanted to laugh but you were still catching your breath.
He pulled back to place a sweet peck on your lips. Silly, how innocent that kiss could be as his cum was dripping out of you. When he did pull out, the thick, white stick dripped to the floor.
“I don’t think I can walk,” you pulled your legs together, feeling a tight burn.
He smiled. “I got you.” His arms wrapped under your legs and around your back, lifting you from the, now, wet counter.
You sighed with content as your back met the plushness of your mattress and quilt. He bent down and kissed your forehead. “Yum,” he smiled. “Sweaty.”
“Whatever,” you pulled him back down, kissing him again. “Best birthday present ever, Yunho, thank you.”
“I’m glad you think so,” he moved to grab a damp washcloth from the bathroom. “Cause you're getting it every year.”
You chuckled lightly. “Fine by me.”
“Fuck,” Yunho cried out from the bathroom.
“You okay,” you asked from the bed.
“No,” he walked up to the bed, a piece of red plastic in his hand. “I stepped on one of your damn nails.”
You looked down on your hands to find all the press-ons missing. You smiled sheepishly, “sorry, baby.”

Blood.
Everywhere his eyes went, blood.
His hands? Covered in blood.
His sword? Covered in blood.
His face? Covered. In. blood.
Heck, even his hair was soaked in it.
But none of it was his.
Which should have calmed him. It was a good thing knowing he hadn’t lost a single drop of blood. It meant he could still defeat the people who had brought upon his family this kind of destruction.
It did not lift his mood in the slightest.
Because right there, by his feet, lay the small, fragile body of his oldest, Aaron.
A couple of feet away, lay Cade.
Further away, lay Azriel, next to Rhys and Feyre. Nyx, sprawled out, bleeding out next to Lucia, Cassian’s youngest daughter.
It was the sight of her that broke Cassian.
Tears rolled down Cassian’s bleeding cheeks as he stared at his family, cold and dead.
He had no time to mourn as a figure stepped forward, evil rolling off its covered body in waves that made it harder to breathe.
Without even thinking, Cassianknew this figure was the reason for his family’s death.
Hands clenching over his double swords, he stepped forward, pushing against the invisible force that threatened to bring him down.
Three long strides, and he plunged his sword through the chest of…
His mate.
The sword he held in his limp hand thudded to the ground, his eyes widening. "Y/n?"
"I- I’m sorry, my… love-"
She slipped to the ground, the dark fog initially covering her melting away to reveal her pristine white dress, red rapidly spreading outward from her chest.
Cassian dropped to his knees, forcing himself to watch as the life drained out of her eyes, and-
"Cass! Wake up, Azriel is waiting for you-"
He jerked up straight, limbs trembling, covered in cold sweat.
"I- yeah, I’ll be right there." he gasped out, unable to remove the sight of the blood.

Me whenever people mention any of the more unknown shit actually. Why don’t we talk about the fact that they dealt with Darkseid??? Or that they casually fought a werewolf???? Or the country they invaded was literally “supervillain island” that they had previously defeated in the Olympics?????
I think it’s funny that it’s always “they invaded a country” and not “they gathered literally every child hero that would listen and took down an entire nation of supervillains” lol
“Oh yeah Anita retired cause her parents turned into babies” WHAT????????
YOU GET ME!
like yeah don’t get me wrong I will talk about dead Santa and space baseball for as long as you let me lol but their was more crazy things that happened in yj98 besides the main stuff we mention!!
For example:
Bedlam, Secret’s tea time with Darkseid, what happened on Halloween, OLD JUSTICE, Secret’s brother, The whole thing with red tornado and his family, the tsunami they uses as the first wave (pun not intended) of attack to takeover the supervillain island/country. JL turning into children while YJ turned into adults. And I should stop now lol
Point is I think if the yj98 community wants to talk about crazy yj stuff they need to talk about ALL the crazy yj stuff! It’ll be great :D

Kept seeing merman!Yone be drawn from his Heartsteel ver bc his white/red thing does look like a koi fish but it does not satisfy the monster bf quota so I made my own...with a lil K'sante cameo bc I can LOL
Oarfish being called a messenger of disaster like tsunamis and such in Japanese folklore, so it seemed fitting for Yone. IDK if I will do more on this au but just needed the design out of my system

What kinds of merpeople the Termina Contestants would be
(already shared these thoughts on twitter, might as well share them here too)
Pav's a lionfish because they're invasive, they move their spines in a way that's similar to peacocking, and they have venomous stings.
Tumblr media
Marcoh's a mantis shrimp because they punch the shit out of their prey. Simple answer.
Tumblr media
Daan's a moon jellyfish because of Blank Soul, how they're the most common jellyfish for others to pluck out of the wild for a pet (but often kill them due to them needing specific tanks), and... moon and all... :3
He'd also be really cute as a jellyfish. I'm biased.
Tumblr media
Abella's a giant pacific octopus because they're incredibly smart and strong. Also the red reminds me of her hair and it'd be fun to imagine her using all her octopus arms to tinker with stuff.
Tumblr media
Olivia's a leafy seadragon because of how they blend themselves into the plant life they make their homes. Mermaid Olivia wouldn't be able to swim strongly but I like to think of her grabbing onto plants to help move herself around in kelp forests. :D
Tumblr media
Levi's a spotted garden eel because they live in these little sand holes (trenches :3c) and are rather shy. They can however get used to certain presences such as people in aquariums. I recommend looking at the Sumida Aquarium story.
Tumblr media
O'saa is a yellow boxfish because yes yes yellow mage, but these fish also can release deadly neurotoxins into the water which is basically hurting if you think about it.
Tumblr media
Samarie is a gulper/pelican eel because I was obligated to make her a deep sea fish and it reminds me of Dysmorphia. Also she'd be a cute eel mermaid.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tanaka is an oarfish due to them being known for being found dead or dying in shallower waters before earthquakes or tsunamis. Literally the opening kill as a fish. So sorry Tanaka lol.
Tumblr media
August is an Orca because of their hunting tactics being so brutal and said hunting tactics being passed from parents to children in a pod, making different pods having different tactics and cultures. Like how Rag's influence can be seen in August.
Tumblr media
Karin is an orange-lined triggerfish because of how territorial and aggressive they are despite their appearance. They often catch new salt water tank owners off guard by how willing they are to throw down.
Tumblr media
Caligura is a goblin shark because it's a deep sea fish that feasts upon bottomfeeders. I also refused to let Caligura be a fish that even I could find cute. :3
Tumblr media
Marina is a clownfish because the anemones are kind of like a warding sigil and she's a silly billy among the horrors at times. :3 They are also one of the tropical fish to be able to change from male to female. They are also my favorite childhood fish. Someone had to be one.
Tumblr media
And finally, Henryk is a blue angel because despite how they look, they will poison the shit out of you and it will be painful and suck so much. Not worth touching.

Tumblr media
“Daddy, will you tell me a bedtime story?”
Your husband pretended to consider for a moment, the candle beside your daughter’s bed casting a halo of golden light against his red hair and around her head.
“I suppose we have a bit of time,” he winked at her conspiratorially. You watched from just outside the door, having given her a hug, kiss, and a bedtime story already. She would hear any story you and Eris would tell her, and nag you for more besides, so it wasn’t uncommon for you to read her more than one a night.
“What do you want to read tonight?”
“I want to know what you were like when you were little, like how Mommy talks about the park and the puppy and her friends.”
“Ah,” he said, adjusting his positioning on the edge of her bed. “Well, let’s see.”
Your daughter didn’t know to look for the subtle twitch of his hand, or the tightening of his jaw. She didn’t know the tells that Eris had, the quiet strength which held back centuries of heartache. She only knew her father as the loving man he displayed in your home. She knew him as the “best hugger in the world,” as she had insisted you caption the picture she drew him for his birthday. As the kisser of her scrapes and cuts from falling out of a tree in the forest. As the one who held her hand when she walked through the streets of the city. Her “favorite Daddy,” as she said every day. “You’re my favorite. My favorite Daddy.”
“Do you have another?” he would ask, his eyes twinkling with mirth. His response never changed, but hers would.
“No. Which means you’re my extra special favorite,” she had explained one rainy morning. “I only have one. Which makes you extra special.”
He had cried that day. He had smiled, and kept it together until she left, holding your niece’s hand as they walked to school together, lunches in hand. When the front door clicked, he spun, tears streaming down his face. It had healed something in him, he told you, something that had felt broken and hopeless even after she had been born.
Her love meant everything to him, to the man whose father had hardly cared to use his name unless it was to berate him with a sneer.
“Let’s see,” he smoothed her blanket up to her shoulders, smiling. “Can I tell you a story about me and Uncle Lucien?”
“No,” she pouted. “Uncle Lucien was a baby when you were big. He said so. I want to know what you were like when you were little like me.”
He faltered for just a moment before yielding to her request. “Let’s see. How about a story about me and Mamé?”
“Yes!” she giggled, wiggling beneath her blankets. She clutched a small plush hound beneath her chin, its ear worn. She had carried it around every day for the first four years of her little life. On occasion, you still saw it in her hand as she skipped through the house singing to herself.
“In the time of Bran, when the leaves were red and the wind sweet, the fire warm and welcoming, there lived a faeling named Eris, and his mother.”
“And that was Mamé, right, Daddy?”
“Yes, love,” Eris chuckled. “They lived in a little house in the woods, with a stream behind the house. Every day, they woke up and went to the stream, and splashed around until they were soaking wet. Sometimes, Eris’ aunt and uncle would come, and they would splash around, too. And the four of them would lay in the grass by the house in the woods and eat the forest berries and drink cream from the neighbor’s cow. The neighbors were our friends, and would come for supper. Mother would cook, and Eris would set the table.”
“Like Mommy taught me?”
“Yes, sweetheart. Like Mommy taught you.”
“Fork, plate, knife, spoon,” your daughter recited.
“Just like that,” Eris smirked, tapping the tip of her nose with a slender finger. “Smart girl.”
She giggled. “Was Eris good at setting the table?”
Eris twisted his face in a show of thinking very hard about her question. “No,” he decided with a wink in your direction. “He was very, very bad at setting the table, because he didn’t pay attention to where he was going and broke plates almost every day.”
“Every day?”
“Almost,” he nodded solemnly. “But he was very little, and his mother fixed the broken plates until he learned.”
“That’s nice of her.”
“It was very nice of her.”
“Did she yell?”
Eris paled just slightly. “No. She never yelled, Calliope.”
“That’s good. You don’t yell either, Daddy. My friend’s daddy yells all the time.”
“Hmm,” Eris said. “Well. I hope she’s okay.”
“She is. She says it’s scary.”
“I’m sure it is. Sweetheart, can you tell me and Mommy more about that in the morning?”
“Uh-huh.”
“Good. Now, where was I?”
You turned down the hallway. He would be another few minutes, but you couldn’t keep standing in the hall. It had been a long day, interactions with courtiers, staff, and . You didn’t mind taking some of the responsibilities for Eris on occasion, especially if it meant he could get away for moments like this.
One or two more letters wouldn’t hurt tonight. The rest could wait until morning, after the children had come for breakfast and left for school, the small pack of them all.
It had been one of Eris’ first decisions after your marriage. Your nieces and nephews descended on the house for breakfast every morning before lessons. He cooked with the staff more often than not, you, your siblings and one of the two brothers whom he had reconciled with, and all their spouses, crowded around the dining room table while your mate brought out the food each morning. He loved cooking, one of the few joys he held onto through his tumultuous younger years.
Over the years, the number of children had grown, and you had expanded the dining room to fit everyone. Now, Calliope joined them, cooking with Eris before going off to school every day. She had asked if one or two of her friends could join, and soon, more than half her class was at your house for breakfast. It was just as well. Her cousins were older than her, and she enjoyed the company. It also resulted in her being exposed to families outside your own, with a greater variety of company. You all were invited to dinner at least once a week at the houses of various classmates, and it afforded you and Eris the ability to feel normal, even if some of the motivation behind the invitations was likely the bragging rights of dining with the High Lord and his family.
Calliope enjoyed it, her ruddy cheeks bright as she skipped ahead with bows in her hair. “Mommy, look!” she cried on one occasion, a moth fluttering in the bushes at the roadside. “It’s pretty!”
“It’s very pretty, Callie,” you agreed. She reached out a chubby hand, giggling.
“Let’s not touch it,” Eris called. “Let it fly, love. Let it fly.”
He gazed at her with such adoration, her innocence and joy at the world. That open adoration was something he rarely allowed in himself, even after his father’s death.
You turned your attention back to the letters at hand, writing until you set down your pen and reached for the ink blotter.
A strong hand settled on your shoulder as you pressed the blotter against the page, rolling it over the text you had written to the Minister of Commerce.
“Hello, sweetness,” he bent to press a kiss to your head. You hummed in acknowledgement, setting the ink blotter and the letter aside to dry.
“Hello, handsome,” you smiled up at him. He came around your chair, spinning it so you faced him as he leaned against the corner of the desk.
“Working after supper again?”
You shrugged. “You were telling an excellent story. I figured one more wouldn’t hurt.”
Eris raised an eyebrow. “If it were me, you’d be stealing the pen out of my hand.”
“I was done when you got here,” you protested. “And-”
He raised a finger, his lips twisting. The mirth you recognized earlier returned to his eyes as he corrected, “You were not done. I’ve been here since paragraph two.”
Your eyes widened, even as you smiled in jest. “Well, it’s a very important letter.”
“Ah. A very important letter, you say,” he bowed to look you levelly in the eyes, his nose inches from yours. “More important than sleep?”
You nod in mock solemnity, leaning backwards. “Much.”
“More important than your well-being?”
“Oh, entirely.”
“I must disagree with both your somethings,” he said seriously, but then returned to his teasing. “More important than your husband?”
You laugh, raising a hand to brush his cheek. “Never.”
“Never? Well, then what are you doing at that desk?”
“It doesn’t matter. I’m done now,” you grinned, accepting his hand to raise yourself from the chair.
“Come to bed with me,” he wrapped his arms around your waist, dropping his head to your shoulder.
You nudged him backwards, the two of you maneuvering around to the side of the desk before releasing each other from your embrace.
“Did she like the story?” you asked, pulling him with you from the office.
“I think so,” Eris sighed. “I didn’t.”
You were silent. It was easier, he had told you once, to fill the silence rather than answer questions.
He continued, turning to his dresser, “The story was true. I wouldn’t lie to her, not outright. Not if I can truly help it. But the truth was… it was during the massacre. It was where Mother took me to avoid the bloodshed.”
You winced. The massacre of nobles under Beron’s reign was the single spot in Autumn history which had not been overshadowed in brutality by Amarantha’s slaughter. It was the single most bloody conflict in the last three thousand years, and had solidified Beron’s hold over too many things for far too long. Eris had been no more than six, and yet the stain of his father’s reign hung over him like a dense fog.
He retrieved his night clothes, tossing you a garment from his drawer. You smiled and nodded, slipping out of your evening dress and replacing it with his shirt. “Thank you.”
He smiled over his shoulder, rummaging in the drawers again. “Here,” he added, tossing you a pair of wool socks. “Your feet were freezing last night.”
You pouted. “You’re a lord of fire, it shouldn’t be a problem when I use you to warm myself.”
“You’re just using me,” he laughed. “If you want to use me for warmth, at least have the decency to cuddle me while you do it.”
“I do!” You protested. “But you were a furnace.”
“If I was a furnace, and you were cuddling me,” he crossed his arms, smirking, “then how come your feet were cold?”
You rolled your eyes, laughing as you slid into bed. “I don’t know what to tell you except that I am right, and you are not.”
“Well,” Eris drawled slowly. “I see we want to fight tonight.”
You smirked in return, tucking the blankets around your waist. “If by fight you mean sleep in preparation for the incredibly busy day we have tomorrow, then I have to agree. Otherwise…”
Eris inclined his head. “It is outrageously busy tomorrow. Still. I’d like to hold my wife, please.”
“Come to bed with me,” you whispered, tossing the quilt from his side of the bed. He joined you, rolling into your side with his arm around your waist. “Anything you want, sweetness.”
You both were silent. Eris extinguished the candle flames with a twitch of his finger, breathing deeply in your neck. You stroked his back gently, fingers catching on the soft cotton of his thin shirt. It was a wonder he preferred sleeping in one at all. Habits formed in childhood rarely break, you supposed.
“She’s the same age I was when the massacres happened,” Eris whispers. You nod, not stopping your gentle movements. “What legacy will I leave to her? Will she inherit his evils through me? And the harm done in my time? What will her life be, seven centuries from now?”
You sighed. “We can’t know that. But as far as I know, you haven’t slaughtered the entire nobility, adults and children alike. You care for her. You care for her friends, our family, our extended family. You love her, and me.”
He huffed a laugh. “I don’t want to hurt her.”
“I know,” you whispered. “I know. And we will, in some ways. But we do our best.”
“She told me I’m her favorite daddy again,” he laughed. “I tucked her in– like a river nymph, as always– and she said it in the sleepiest voice.”
You smiled. “She means it.”
“Do you know which friend it is she was talking about?”
“The one whose father yells?”
“Yes.”
“No,” you sighed.
Eris was protective of his daughter, and, by extension, her friends. It was no doubt Eris would have a conversation with the man if he found anything to his distaste. Eris Vanserra, defender of children. The savior he had needed as a child, come centuries too late. “I’d rather be certain of harm before we say anything at all.”
“I know,” he murmured. “I truly hope sheis alright.”
“Laws are stricter now. You could send someone, instead of getting involved yourself.”
“Don’t I owe it to Callie, to help her friend?”
“You did help her friend. You wrote those laws yourself, forced them through the council. You insisted on trained professionals in every school, to educate the children on what abuse was and what it looked like, the forms it could take. You’ve done a great deal to ensure their safety, and you did it all well before she was even born.”
“It doesn’t seem like enough.”
“Eris, this is a part of your legacy,” you nudged his cheek with your palm until he raised his head to look at you. “This is what you are giving her. This is what you leave her, greater safety for her and her peers, and an example to follow. Not a massacre, but safety. Not fear, but love.”
He nodded. “I know. I know that. It still feels too little.”
“To them, it isn’t little…”
“‘...to them, it’s everything’,” he finished the line from his own speech with a chuckle. He had said that, at the ceremony to pass the laws which now protected the children of Autumn. “Alright. I’ll let them handle it.”
“Good,” you kissed his forehead. “Now please remember that your daughter needs her favorite daddy whole and entire in the morning.”
“Her mother, too,” he poked your side until you squirmed, laughing. “Stop it!”
He kissed you gently through his smile, his hands gripping your hips as he rolled, pulling you on top of him.
“I love you,” you whispered between lazy kisses.
“I love you, sweetness.”

Hello, I see the asks are open! Here is some of this cake I got after killing a slime in the skull cavern: 🍰 just ignore the purple slime on it, I'm sure it's fine. lol. Definitely not a bribe. Anyway.
I made a character recently who adopted a child. Could I ask for some headcannons for how the characters react to the farmer tearing up after their adopted child casually calls them dad/mom for the first time.
For context, their adoption was from before they moved to stardew valley but is still pretty recent and the child has a few abandonment issues so it's a pretty big deal. If it's ok, could I ask for the expanded characters as well?
*Chewing cake* Oh, I thought that purple thing was plum jam. Hmm... *Still chewing the cake* Delicious 😋 Thank you! So, about the question...
I'm not sure, dear anon, exactly which characters you meant, so I did the bachelors/ettes, also added the ones from SVE as well. Thanks for the question! Enjoy!
Hedcanons is written on a situation where the characters know for the situation of the Farmer and their child, that they had adopted the kid before coming to the Valley, and that the child had a sense of abandonment.
SDV/SVE bachelors:
Shane understands more than anyone how much a tsunami of emotions can knock you down at times like this. The day he put Jas to bed and she sleepily called him "Dad" he'll never forget. The girl had already forgotten it, but Shane remembered it forever.
A feeling of abandonment... When Alex's abusive father left him alone with his mother, and later she passed away... It took athlete a long time to shake off the feeling of being unwanted. It's a blessing that he still has his grandparents, and that this child has a loving parent, Farmer.
If you see a little river coming out of nowhere near your feet, just know it's all Elliott's tears. The writer was so touched by the event, its like as if it was his own child calling him father. Elliott doesn't want to get involved right now, but he will congratulate Farmer later.
Sebastian, without noticing it himself, smiled broadly as the crying Farmer hugged their adopted child. Even though he doesn't fully realize how important this is to Farmer, he's genuinely happy for them.
Sam, who in the absence of his father has become not only Vincent's best big brother but now part father figure, truly understands Farmer, even if their situations are a bit different. Every child should have a family and Sammy is glad that this kid have the Farmer in their life.
Humanity is capable of incredible cruelty, but also great compassion and kindness. And Harvey's glasses get a little wet when he witnesses true kindness. He can't put into words how happy he is for this kid and how proud he is of Farmer.
Victor would definitely need a whole box of tissues, maybe two. The fact that the Farmer's foster child could finally feel like a member of the family touched Victor so much that he cried quietly.
The sight of a crying Farmer hugging their kid makes Magnus both smile and feel unbearably sad at the same time. What it's like when a child calls you dad, alas, Magnus will probably never know.
Lance's heart filled with joy when abandoned children found a family again. The adventurer, however, took it upon himself to scold the Farmer if they risked their lives for no good reason, where a child might be left without a family again.
SDV/SVE bachelorettes:
Penny had to cover her face with her hands, for her face was already a little swollen and red from the endless flow of tears. How happy Penny is for them! The girl wishes all the best for this family.
No child should ever feel abandoned, and Leah is very proud of Farmer that even though they were young, they were able to be a great parent to a child. It's not something everyone can do.
As much as Abigail tried to hide her tears, she failed. And you know what? She doesn't care! Even a man with a stone for a heart would shed a tear. The little one deserves a home and a loving family. Hell yeah, Farmer, good job!
Oh, how happy Emily is for them, how happy she is! Happy people and acts of kindness will always overwhelm her with positive emotions. Especially after all the troubles the kid has been through, she is glad child found people who love and care for them.
"Awww" Maru couldn't help gasp in tenderness, and can you blame her when her friend and their child are so happy? She would congratulate Farmer later, she didn't want to distract them right now.
As Haley was about to take a picture of the happy family to give to them later, she stopped herself at the last moment. It seemed to her that it was too personal to take a picture without asking. So Haley would only observe this beautiful scene. Ugh, her tears made her mascara run....
Sophia is about to cry herself to tears. Such a touching moment, she just can't hold back her tears at the sight of her crying friend and how much a child's words mean to Farmer.
Coming out of Jojamart for a break, Claire happened to witness this moment when she saw Farmer standing in the park in the spot where the cashier usually rested. They were crying and cuddling their child. She was very happy for both of them, and decided to rest elsewhere, not wanting to disturb the parent and their kid.
The happy child and their wonderful parent are sure to be the first gossip Olivia tells her friends. Running a farm and giving a family to an adopted kid is a lot of work and a lot of responsibility, and the woman is genuinely happy for the child and proud of Farmer.

Kill your demons, Kill 'em dead in your mirror, in your bed, in your heart, in your head Don't you look good in red Slay your devils, Kill 'em all, Take your throne, Paint the walls, And if you make it out alive, Hold that bloody head up high
Good in Red
-The Midnights
Artists commentary below the cut
First off, here's the song:
Tumblr media
Red version, anyway let's speedrun the symbolisms:
The sword of justice is Apollo and Trucy flavored with the eyes and the diamonds, also the guard is supposed to resemble the scales of justice. There's also Apollo's bracelet and Kazuma's hachamaki, I felt like including a bit of him for the vibes. The halo of stars is used as a crown of immortality which goes with Phoenix's whole thing.
Tumblr media
different version of the halo, more sharp and stabby and feathery. Anyway, I wanna ramble about what I was going to do with the background. So, with the theme of 'Kill your demons' I was going to try to include the silhouettes of heads on spears of the people that Phoenix dethroned, like Redd White, Manfred von Karma, Damon Gant, Matt Engarde, and Dahlia Hawthorne. As you can tell, that didn't pan out and no matter how I tried to work it, it didn't look good so I just didn't do it lol. Also, I guess the heads on spears would've gone past the point of being a little too gruesome for me, just in general.
This whole piece is based on one of the many paintings of Judith slaying Holofernes, which is why this specifically takes place in my Fem!Phoenix AU, I thought it hit harder, especially after learning about the version by Artemisia Gentileschi that's implied to be inspired by her own sexual assault. While I followed the versions where it's mostly just 'pretty lady holding a head', her version was more brutal and actually depicting the act of beheading Holofernes which was rad as hell. I just liked the Perseus and Medusa-esque pose of triumph more in the end.
My initial inspiration was Perseus and Medusa but then I stumbled upon the absolute tsunami of Baroque and Renaissance art depicting Judith and Holofernes and I just went crazy. Sure there's the whole vibe of 'cutting off the head of the snake' but there's like one statue of Perseus and it's not very interesting but people really went off on Judith. I love you women committing righteous acts of violence, and obviously, so many painters had the same thought bc holy shit.
Tumblr media
And I drew the whole sword of justice and was only a little lazy with the blade because I knew it would be completely hidden

Not yet corpses (still, we rot)
(Ominis Gaunt/Sebastian Sallow/GN!Reader HURT/COMFORT)
Tumblr media
Summary:
For a moment, everything felt still. Silence consumed the space, sucking all the air out of the room like the tide as a tsunami made its way towards shore. All Ominis could hear was the harsh ringing in his ears and the startled gasp from his counterpart behind him. Panic began to crawl its way into his throat once more. Sebastian’s heart stuttered in his chest, his words forcing themselves out around the lump that formed under his jaw. “Oh, dear God…” *** What were the boys doing while you were saving Hogwarts? *** Contains spoilers from the game Title from the song "Dirt and Roses" by Rise Against
Word count: 6k
AN: I’m moving all of my fics over from Ao3 to make them more accessible! These are my fics.
Tumblr media
TW: - Blood - Gore - Anxiety - Detailed descriptions of injury - Near death experiences - Claustrophobia (only for a little bit, tho. I have it too and that's all I could write, lol)
“Knight to E5.” Sebastian quips, leaning back in his wicker chair, his arms crossed against his chest and a smug smile tweaking at the corners of his mouth. He watched the boy across from him regard the wizards chess board, the tip of his wand blinking that comforting red light he had grown accustomed to after years of friendship. It was probably not the most fair thing in the world to go against someone blind in a game that required sight over everything else, but that didn’t stop the brunette from trying his very best at beating his best friend in absolutely everything— he was nothing if not competitive. That being said, as much as he loved the idea of pulling one over on Ominis, the feat was nearly impossible . The blond was far too good. It didn’t matter if it was a game of gobstones, a duel in Crossed Wands, even exploding snaps, a game where sight was a necessity, all because of that blasted wand! The only thing that Ominis was truly bad at was potions, and even then he would likely still get an Acceptable on their OWLS. Sebastian felt that this round of chess was different, though. He could see the furrow of his partner’s brows in the low candlelight of the Undercroft, trace how his hand rested on his chin in puzzlement— fingers pinching at the skin there and stroking like tweaking an imaginary beard. He was currently in the lead, most of Ominis’ pieces resting broken on his side of the board. A truly violent game, that wizards chess.
A light tisk came from his companions mouth, his wand still gently coasting over the top of the board just out of reach of the pieces, before his eyebrows slowly rose back to their normal position on his temple, a mischievous smile making its way across his cheeks and a twinkle of something unrecognizable, but all the more devious, in his eyes. He leaned back in his own chair, adopting a similar cadence as his brunette counterpart, his body language oozing confidence. Sebastian shifted in his seat, eyes casting uneasy glances between the boy and the board as sweat began to bead on his brow. Surely not, he mused— there was no way Ominis figured out a new strategy.
The blond lightly chuckled, sensing the sudden nervousness of his friend. “Queen to E5.”
Bollocks.
Sebastian was helpless to watch the white marble queen piece shift its way across the board towards his onyx black knight. The matriarch stood from her throne, bringing her chair around to her front and up over her shoulder, before crashing it down over the head of his brave steed. The brunette scowled at the board before tilting his chin to the ceiling, his head cracking lightly on the back of the chair as he leaned away and groaned into the musky air of the hideaway, his arms thrown upwards in a show of surrender.
“You’re a bastard, Gaunt.”
Ominis laughed, his form slumping forward over the little end table they were next to as he waved his wand, collecting all the broken pieces and placing them back into the chess box where they would self-repair.
“No, unfortunately my heritage is legitimate.” He simpered, a light jab dancing on the tip of his tongue. “The juries still out for you, though, my dear friend. You have as much grace as a charging erumpent.”
Sebastian gasped in outrage, his hand dramatically fluttering to his chest and resting over his heart like a damsel in distress. “Oh, I’m wounded! You’ve wounded me, Ominis. How ever will I recover— doomed to live a life of desolate mediocrity at the hands of my very best friend?” He slowly slid out of his chair, letting gravity work its magic and flopping dramatically on the floor, limbs sprawled out like a flattened lizard.
The smaller Slytherin guffawed, a large grin splitting his face as he kicked his leg out towards the brunette, his shoe jabbing him harshly in the calf. “Quit it, you buffoon. You aren’t going to die because I beat you in wizards chess.”
Sebastian sighed heavily, the back of his hand slapping against his forehead in overzealous woe. “Oh but I am! I will never be the same, never! I shall cover all of my mirrors so I never have to see my failurous face ever again— cover my head with a ghastly bag to shield the world from my shameful dereliction!” Small sounds of sorrow continued to fill the air around them, long drawn out “boohoo’s” falling from the brunette’s lips at a consistent rate.
Ominis stood from his chair, stepping over the fallen idiot and plopping down onto the chaise lounge to their left, a book floating into his hand with the flick of his wand. “I think the entire student body would thank you for that.”
The blond laughed at the incredulous noises of his companion, leaning his head to the left quickly as Sebastian’s boot flew through the air right where he once was and smacked into the pillar just beyond. The taller Slytherin got up from the ground, muttering obscenities under his breath as he limped over to where his shoe landed, taking the time to lightly smack the blond on the back of the head before rounding the space and throwing himself on the other lounge chair diagonal to the opening of the Undercroft.
“You’re an arse, do you know that?”
Ominis smirked downwards towards his book, lethargically licking his finger before flipping to the next page with gusto. “Oh yes, I pride myself in it. I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but I’m only one to you— I’m quite nice to everyone else.”
Once his boot was securely back on his foot, Sebastian pulled out his pocket watch from his waistcoat; he checked the time, glancing in confusion at the gunmetal gate entrance of their secret space.
“Hey, have you seen our charge today? They’re normally down here by now.”
Ominis scoffed, a blank look crossing his face and a sardonic bite taking over his tone. “Do you ever think before you speak?”
Sebastian met his gaze with a blank look of his own. “Where’s the fun in that?”
The blond sighed deeply, raising a hand to his face and waving it in front of his unseeing eyes. “No, I haven’t ‘seen’ them today, nor have I heard from them.”
Lifting himself to a seated position, the brunette’s brows scrunched together in puzzlement, slight worry tipping the corners of his mouth into a frown. You normally met them in the Undercroft after dinner so they all could hang out until curfew. Today, though, you were missing. Sebastian couldn’t remember if he had seen you today at all, come to think of it. You were supposed to have potions with him, but in his hazy memory he remembers that your stool was empty. Where were you?
He turned his gaze back to the other Slytherin, confusion and concern lacing his tone as he spoke. “I haven’t either. Should we go search for them? They normally owl us if they’re going on a mission.”
Another sigh. “Sebastian, I’m sure they’re fine. They’ve bested practically the whole wizarding world in a duel at this point— they can handle themselves. Let’s just have a quiet night, yes?”
The Sallow boy threw himself back onto the chaise with a huff, his hands folding together and smacking against his abdomen. He knew that you were more than capable of taking care of yourself— he had seen it in action. Still, the knowledge of your fighting prowess did little to alleve his nerves. Each of the trials the Keepers were sending you on got more and more difficult— more dangerous. The thought of you getting hurt, or even worse, dying, made him feel ill. Ominis felt the same, they had talked about it before, but he was better at hiding it. Even now, though, Sebastian could see the telltale bounce of the blonds leg from nerves out of the corner of his eye. He was just as worried about you. You had told them all about the trials after they had stumbled upon you in the Undercroft a few weeks ago, bruised and bloody with at least five Wiggenweld potions scattered around you, as well as some gauze. Instantly the both of them had asked, nay insisted, that they go with you for safety, but you shut them down quickly— the trials were for you and you alone, no outside help. They reluctantly agreed to let you handle them, but they certainly weren’t happy about the arrangement, not in the slightest.
The two sat in silence for a while, their eyes drifting every so often over towards the Undercroft gate like you’d step through any moment. Worry began to claw at their throats like a rabid animal begging to be let out of a cage. Ominis’ leg had picked up speed around the five minute mark, no longer paying attention to the book in his lap and instead turning his ears minutely towards where you would hopefully be coming from soon. Sebastian was right, you would normally send them a letter if you were going to be out for the day— you knew how they worried about you. Silence seemed to spread around the room like a thick fog, its tendrils wrapping around the boy’s heads and slithering into their ears, leaving an unnerving ringing behind. They were getting antsy, anxious energy pouring from them in waves.
Just as they were about to move and suggest looking for you again, a loud, deafening boom rang through the room. Crates tumbled to the ground with a crash as the ground rumbled below their feet. It was like the earth below them, below the entire castle, was breaking apart piece by piece. Paintings fell from the walls around them, tables shook and tipped over, school work and books spilling across the floor in rivers. Sebastian sprang from his seat, sprinting across the small space and throwing himself next to a shaking Ominis, his arms wrapping around the blonds head to shield him from falling debris. The tremors continued for what felt like years before everything halted in their tracks— silence filling the room once again and only breaking around the heavy, panting panicked breaths that left the two boy’s lungs. They slowly de-tangled themselves from the other, their gazes lifting up from the ground to take in the damage around them. Dust covered every surface, clinging to their clothes and hair and dyeing everything a light grey.
Ominis spoke first, his voice whispering like he was afraid that if he broke the calming quiet everything would start all over again. “Are you alright?”
Sebastian sighed shakily, his heart hammering in his chest as he grabbed the blond's hand and squeezed. “Yes, I’m fine. Are you?”
He nodded. “What was that?”
“I have no idea. Sounded like it came from under the school— an earthquake maybe?”
Ominis shook his head, dust lightly falling from his hair and brushing against his shoulders. “In these parts? At this time of the year? Unlikely.”
Sebastian furrowed his brows once again. “Then what could it be? Should we go check—”
The brunette paused, his blood running cold in his body as his skin turned a ghostly white as sudden realization hit him like a speeding broom. Ominis seemed to have come to the same conclusion, his hands shaking at his sides as they both turned towards each other, brown eyes meeting milky blue in barely hidden fear. Only one thought passed between the both of them: you were out there somewhere.
The room began to shake again, the stone floor trembling with stronger aftershocks as more things began to slam to the ground around them. The duo quickly jumped up, their arms covering their heads from falling debris as their legs carried them as fast as they could go towards the exit and up the stairs towards the Defense Against the Dark Arts hallway. They quickly scrambled through the cabinet door, slamming it shut behind them as their feet nearly slid out from under them on the smooth tile floors of the main floor. Professors were running around, herding students left and right and ushering them towards their common rooms for safety. Sharp corralled them both, blocking their path from the rest of the school and their mad dash to find you amongst the chaos, and shoved them in the direction of the Slytherin common room, only turning away to look for more lost souls as the two boy’s got swallowed by waves of green and silver robes. Sebastian desperately fought against the stream of students, throwing elbows left and right as he swam towards the front and towards, what he hoped, was freedom from the crowd. A sharp cry came from his left and he shot his head in that direction, barely catching the sight of Ominis’ blond head as it disappeared in the hazard of students. His hand darted out, catching his friend’s shoulder before he could be trampled and pulled him to his side where he would be safe, clutching onto him like a lifeline in a storm as they were carried away, down the Grand Staircase and into the dungeons. Once safely inside, the ornate serpentine door slammed shut behind the students, bathing the room in startling silence once again.
The rumbling was muted this far under the black lake, only the sound of murky water splashing against the large bay windows of the common room filled the large, encompassing space. Students milled about, some retiring to their bedchambers while others sat on the various surfaces spread around the room. Tense whispers filled the air, questions and theories about what was happening swimming in everyone’s minds and entering through their eagerly listening ears.
“Was on the moving stairs when it started, I was. It was quite funny watching all the paintings scramble from their frames before they fell.”
“What do you think is happening? It seems to be coming from under the school.”
“I saw all the Professors run towards the Astronomy wing. What do you think they’re looking for over there?”
“Weasley had something in her hand before it all started— a bit of parchment. Looked as pale as the Bloody Baron after reading it. Wonder what it said?”
“I heard one of the Ravenclaw's say they saw some goblins over by the east wing. Do you think they have something to do with all of this?”
“Do you think they’ll cancel finals if half the castle is destroyed?”
The two fifth year boys stood apart from the crowd. Sebastian paced the length of the room, going back and forth a number of times, wringing his hands in front of his chest and worrying on his bottom lip with his teeth. Ominis sat on the bench in front of the large floor to ceiling windows, elbows bent atop his knees and long fingers wracking through his normally perfectly styled hair. Anxiety oozed from them like a poorly made potion seeping out of the bottom of its cauldron. No one had seen or heard from you before or after the chaos. They had to get back to the Undercroft— it was the best place to wait for you. The brunette caught bits and pieces of the conversations flowing around the common room, and each one set his nerves alight just a little bit more. Astronomy wing? Goblins? Oh Merlin. He knew, whatever was happening had to do with Ranrok. If it had to do with Ranrok, then you had to be there too. Sebastian spun towards his friend, quickly pacing towards him with determined steps and nearly throwing himself onto the bench to the blonds left. He leaned closer, whispering conspiratorially, just low enough so no one else would hear.
“Ominis, we have to get out of here. If we get back to the Undercroft, we can wait for them there. They know we’d be there.”
The smaller Slytherin inhaled deeply, his body shaking with tremors stronger than those rocking through the castle. “How are we going to get out? The room is packed— there’s no way we could sneak out undetected.”
The brunette hummed in thought, placing his hand on Ominis’ knee to steady his nervous jittering. It was up to him to come up with a plan, the room was much too loud for his companion to think clearly— multiple stimuli overwhelmed him easily. He racked his brain for a solution, every thought coming in small glimpses around the unending worry he felt for you. They’d have to be invisible to get out of the common room, there was no way another student wouldn’t see them leave.
A lightbulb sputtered to life in his mind.
Oh. Oh. That would work.
He squeezed the blonds knee before letting go and grabbing his wand from his robes. “I have an idea, follow my lead.”
Sebastian cast the disillusionment charm around himself quietly, watching his fingers and legs disappear into a slight trick of the light. Ominis nodded, doing the same to his right. They both stood as quiet as mice and made their way through the throngs of silver and green clad students, dodging and weaving around flying limbs before all but running up the grand spiral staircase and skidding to a halt outside of their common room door.
An eerie hush fell over the still castle dungeon. The rumbles had quieted down enough, only a soft vibration making its way through their shoes and shaking their bodies instead of the intense tremors that shook the building moments earlier. That had to be a good sign, Sebastian mused.
They both took off towards the Defense Against the Dark Arts wing, their legs pumping as fast as they could go. The setting sun cast shadows across the floor, catching on each piece of debris and drawing the brunette’s attention to just how much damage had been done. Sebastian grabbed Ominis’ hand, pulling him along and calling out obstacles in their path. They leaped over fallen pillars, dodged around scattered armor, and slid around corners, their shoes loudly squeaking on the linoleum floor and nearly sending them tumbling into walls with their haste.
Finally, they made it to the hidden cabinet leading to the school's underbelly. The blond threw himself against the door, unlocking it with a flick of his wrist and all but shoved the brunette down the stone steps. With a loud crack, the metal gate clipped shut behind them. They both heaved over, their bodies folded in half as their hands grasped onto their knees. Heavy breaths left their lungs from the exertion, sweat beaded on their brows from the heat of their bodies as well as from the intense nerves that shook through their bodies. Sebastian stumbled over to the table they sat around earlier, picking up one of the wicker chairs that had been knocked over from the ground and plopping himself down into it. Ominis collected himself, rolling his spine back into a standing position before beginning to pace. Each second of taciturnity filled his gut with more and more hysteric energy. His mind was going at the speed of light, horrible images of what fate could be befalling you slid behind his eyes like a demented moving picture show. All of his reserve flew out the window with the rest of his carefully curated apathetic coping mechanisms. His hands pulled at his hair, fingers digging into his roots and sending spikes of pain through his skull. The brunette carefully watched him from his vantage point, his eyes following each step of his companion as he made his way across the length of the rather large room. He could see the silvery tears that began to gather in the blond's eyes from his intense fear and called out to him in what he hoped was a calming voice.
“Ominis please sit down, you’re only going to work yourself into more of a panic if you keep pacing like that. They’ll be here soon— everything will be fine.” He cringed at the tremors that were present in his words, hoping the young wizard didn’t notice it.
The other boy turned towards the sound of his voice, quick as a whip, his eyebrows crinkled at his brow in dread and hands flailing around punctuating his snapped words. “What if they don’t, Sebastian? You heard the others in the common room, there were bloody goblins near the school! You know just as much as I do that that could only mean Ranrok is here. He’s probably the reason for everything that’s happening, and if he’s here that means that they’re down there, wherever in Merlin’s name there is, with him! They could be dead in some unknown tomb under the school and we would be none the wiser!”
Blinding, distressed anger struck down Sebastian’s spine as he stood from his slumped position. He snarled towards the smaller of the two, “Don’t you dare even say that. They’re not dead, they can’t be. Don’t even put that idea into the universe!” He could see the blond flinch at his harsh tone, his hands moving to wring together. The brunette sighed deeply, willing his heartbeat to slow down and his anger to disapparate. He carefully made his way towards Ominis, steps loud but gentle like approaching a startled animal, and placed his hand on the other's shoulder. He pretended it didn’t hurt him that he felt the boy stiffen under his touch. “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have yelled at you, but we can’t think like that. We have to stay hopeful.”
The Gaunt boy relaxed slightly, his hands falling to his sides as he lowered his chin towards his chest. He sighed, “You’re right, it’s no use getting worked up. All we can do now is wait.”
Sebastian carefully led him towards the lounge chair he was sitting on earlier, gently pushing down on his shoulders so he would relax into the plush cushions before joining him. He tilted his head back towards the ceiling, eyes closed as he silently prayed to whomever was listening that you’d return to them safely.

The Undercroft filled with the sound of the large brass clock that resided in the Hogwarts clock tower, two loud clangs ricocheting off the stone walls that surrounded the space and filling the anxious ears of the two Slytherin’s that rested in its belly. Hours had passed since the tremors started; they long since puttered off and made way for the chilling quiet of the night. Both boys had not moved from their spot on the chaise lounge, each glancing longingly at the gate that led towards the castle hallways as they waited impatiently for their friend to return from what they could only imagine was a deranged war. They both fought valiantly against the sleep that clung to their bodies, each ticking second sending them closer and closer to sweet unconsciousness. They couldn’t sleep as long as you were still out there in Merlin knows what condition.
Sebastian sighed for the umpteenth time, his hands running through his already unruly curls and sending them into all possible directions. His leg bounced at his side, the muscle flowing with his anxieties and only being released by the constant movement. Ominis stood once again from his side, shaking the sleep from his person and beginning to pace the space once again. He couldn’t keep still any longer, not when you’d been gone for so long. Blond tresses fell in front of his eyes from his incessant hands combing through it. He took deep breaths, inhaling through his nose and exhaling through his mouth in order to calm his rapidly pounding heart. The silence was driving him mad, every little sound that wasn’t you coming through the metal gate was like a bullet to his brain. He feared the worst for you— the idea of you leaving this world without a word made his chest feel like it was caving in on itself.
The creak of the Undercroft gate broke both of the boys from their perturbed revelry. Sebastian sprung to his feet, head whipping to the side at the sound as Ominis spun on his heel and ceased his endless pacing as you stumbled through the doorway.
The blond made a small sound in the back of his throat, relief palpable in the air around him. “Thank Merlin you’re okay, we were worried sick about you!”
“Oh, dear God…” He breathed, his feet glued where he stood in shock as he took you in.
Ominis’ heart rate picked up exponentially. Tuning his ears to what was happening around him, he could hear the heavy breaths leaving both of his best friends with a renewed clarity. Your breathing was more stuttered than Sebastian’s, like you were struggling to suck in the air around you. Something was dripping lightly on the ground by your feet, the sound of its little plinks against the stone bounced around his skull like a small pebble skipping across the black lake. Pushing himself to focus more on the sound, the scent of copper filled his nose and sent a shiver down his spine.
With a pained whimper, your legs gave out and you crashed to the hard ground with a resounding thump.
Sebastian sprang into action, your noise of distress breaking him out of his stupor as he rushed over to your fallen form, calling out to the other boy in panic.
“Ominis, get the Wiggenweld potions!”
The blond stumbled over his feet, running towards the box in the far corner of the room that they filled with first aid equipment for moments just like this. The Sallow boy slid the rest of the distance between the two of you on his knees, arms outstretched to catch the top half of your body against his chest as the rest of your body gave in to gravity. He grasped you gently by the shoulders, moving your face into his vision and scanning you for injury.
“What happened? Who did this to you!?”
Your eyes were unfocused on his, black half moons coloring your bottom lids and the tops of your cheeks. Your voice was soft, barely loud enough for Sebastian to make out anything you were saying. He caught little snippets, mumbles of words like “Ranrok,” “repository,” and “Rookwood.” Blood dripped from a cut on your forehead, cascading down your incredibly pale face and staining the collar of your white button down. Your house cardigan was sliced open at the arm, showing a deep laceration stretching from the top of your arm to your elbow— Sebastian worried that if it was any deeper it would have hit bone. Your skin was almost grey from blood loss, your veins zigzagging under the flesh of your neck, chest, and arms like small strikes of lightning. He could see your knees through the rips in your trousers, the skin shredded and bruised, little bits of gravel dotting the wound like birth marks. One of your hands clutched your side, blood blooming through your fingers like a macabre rose bouquet. He carefully pried your fingers away to assess the damage and his breath caught in his throat, a sound of agony escaping from his open mouth. Through the hole in your shirt he could see multiple large, jagged slices in your side, each oozing buckets of blood. You winced as his fingers ran along your ribs, another groan of pain vibrating in your throat. He raised his eyes back to your face, irises dancing side to side as he tried to catch your gaze. Your entire body was shaking with adrenaline. He gently cupped your cheeks in his hands, forcing you to meet his piercing stare. His voice shook with dismay, the words leaving his mouth in a frenzy.
“I need to look at your side, okay? I need to see how bad the damage is. Just nod if you’re okay with that.”
You blinked slowly at him, a hand reaching out and wrapping around one of his wrists as you minutely nodded. Sebastian carefully took your hands into his and placed them on his shoulders for stability before unbuttoning the bottom of your shirt. His eyes were greeted with an enormous bruise, purples, blues, and blacks covering the skin of your lower left ribs and splintering out towards your chest. He sucked in a breath through his clenched teeth— you definitely had a few broken ribs. Your body began to slump against his, eyes fighting harder to stay open. He lightly slapped you on the cheek, frantically trying to keep you conscious.
“Hey, hey! No you don’t, you need to stay awake. Stay with us, okay?”
You laughed, wincing as your ribs shifted painfully, and smiled, your teeth stained a light pink from swallowing blood— you were absolutely delirious. “You should see the other guy.” Sucking in a deep, stuttering breath, your vision began to blur even more as your mind filled with numbing static. “I-I did it.”
Sebastian took your face into his hands once again, watching you with bated breath. “What did you do? Please, what happened to you?”
Your gaze focused on him finally, eyes softening as your smile stretched even wider. “I controlled it— the ancient magic, it’s inside me.”
The brunette blanched, his brain needing a second to catch up with your words before he laughed incredulously, head shaking in disbelief. “We can focus on that later. Right now, we need to stop you from dying, okay?”
Ominis appeared at his side, arms laden with as many potions as he could carry as he dropped roughly to his knees to your right. The oblong shaped vials clinked together as he haphazardly set them down on the ground, quickly drawing his wand and scanning you for any other injuries. Each pulse of his wand, each image blasted into his mindseye, sucked a little bit more color from his cheeks in horror. His hands hovered in the air next to your arm, shaking with barely contained terror as his mind fought whether to touch and comfort you or not touch you in case he hurt you even more.
His whole body vibrated, nerves completely shot to hell and his voice betraying every ounce of trepidation he held inside of him. "We need to get you to the infirmary! Why in Merlin's name did you come down here? You need a proper doctor, not us!"
You shook your head weakly, your speech slurred as your head slightly lulled in his direction. "Knew you'd worry— had to make sure you both were okay..." A breath. "Wanted to be with you— to see you...one last time..." It was getting harder and harder to breathe— each breath felt like you slammed your lungs in a bear trap.
Sebastian shushed you softly, lips grazing the skin of your temple as he whispered into your hair. "Quiet now, save your strength. You're safe now, you made it to us." He cleared his throat, adopting as much determination as he could muster. "You aren't dying today, alright? We won't let you, you stubborn bastard."
He gently lowered you so you were laying on your back and your head rested against the cool ground of the Undercroft, pushing the hair sticking to your temple back so he could clearly see your eyes. In his haste to move you, he didn’t notice that they were closed. Your breathing left your parted lips at a dangerously slow rate; your body finally giving out from the intense pain pulsing through your system. White hot panic screamed at the front of his skull.
“Hey! What did I say? Stay with us, dammit!”
You didn’t budge.
“Shit. Shit!”
Uncorking one of the potions, he pressed it against your lips with one hand and tilted your chin back with the other, whispering prayers for you to wake up as the bitter liquid slid down your throat. Ominis bit his lip hard, muffling the hysterical pants that threatened to leave his lungs. The taste of his own blood filled his mouth as it steadily dripped down his throat. He pressed his fingers against the pulse point on your neck, feeling for your heartbeat. It was soft, but still there.
The blond grasped one of your hands in his while the other still held his wand, coasting the tip of it over your body like he did to the chessboard hours before to check the status of your injuries. Your fingers were so cold.
Nodding towards the brunette, unseeing eyes never leaving your body and voice shaking, he shouted, “Give them another one!”
Sebastian pressed a second potion to your lips, watching it flow down your open throat as color began to return to your cheeks. His heart continued to slam against his ribs painfully, threatening to break out from under his skin.
The skin around your arm began to lace itself back together, the large cut that resided there turning into a barely raised scar— the same happening to the slice on your temple.
Another potion.
The bruising around your naval began to disapparate, the skin around your ribs painting itself to match the rest of your complexion.
He gave you the last of the potions, watching as the final scars of your battle stitched together and solidified at your side. Your flesh was red and angry around where the wound was, raised and burning to the touch, but no longer gushing enough blood to feed a small army of vampires.
Both boys held their breath as they waited for your eyes to open once again, each one counting the seconds that you remained unconscious. The space behind their eyes began to sting with unshed tears. Dread nestled itself in their chests and spread through their entire bodies like a wildfire, both fearing the worst— that you wouldn’t wake up, that the potions didn’t help, that you were still dying.
“Please don’t leave us. Not yet.” Sebastian whispered, leaning down and pressing his forehead against yours. His voice cracked with sorrow.
After what felt like a century, your eyelids fluttered open and you took in the world around you. The taller Slytherin leaned back so he could catch your gaze, breathed a heaving sigh of relief, tears gathering in his lashes and streaking down his cheeks as he gave a weak, watery chuckle. He brushed his fingers through your blood slicked hair, a soft smile tweaking the corners of his mouth.
“Hey, stranger. You scared us there for a second.”
You smiled up at him, eyelids slitted but finally open, finally alive. “Can’t get rid of me that easily.” You croaked, your voice raspy.
A harsh sob left their blond companion, his body finally slumping around the tautness he held since you entered the room. He rolled onto his back, legs thumping against the ground below as he brought his hands to cover his face, tears of pure, unbridled joy leaking through his fingers and wetting the dusty floor as light relieved laughs and muted curses spilled from his lips.
“You both are going to send me to an early grave, I’m sure of it.”
Laughing to himself, the brunette gazed down at you, his thumb lightly tracing along your cheekbone. “Let’s get you to the hospital wing, yes? Then you can tell us all about what happened.”
You nodded against his hand, letting him pull you up to your feet and wrap his hand around your waist. Ominis stood with you both, doing the same on your other side after pressing a careful kiss to your hair, squeezing your hand in his.
Safely tucked between your two boys, the three of you made your way out of the Undercroft and into the hallways of the castle you saved— the castle you called home.
