shout out to leo for his "who are you trying to convince?" @ raven bc this was truly the True Colors™ moment for raven in that episode that got to the very core of her character. every single other time she gets accused of something she has some kind of a response but this time? she just. leaves lmao she can't answer that bc the answer would be "me, myself, and i" like literally no one else is buying what she's selling.
and it's not even a new thing, she's already doing it in the flashback: "it's... you're better at that life, better than i was..." <- if that ain't trying to justify her decision to herself after she has already made it then i don't know what is. like she wanted that life, tho, and unless there was something going on before her departure, she'd have no reason to believe summer would fully commit to that life, either. it just so happened that she did, and now raven can tell herself that she made the right choice bc summer was always going to be better at that life than her anyway so checkmate.
anyway. raven is very good at trying to convince herself of stuff, but i don't think it's really working; that's why she keeps doing it over and over again.
#something about#'perhaps raven could be jealous of those who live with unwavering conviction#of those that believe what they believe is right#of those that do not fear their own weakness#because all she could ever do... is pray that her choices were the right ones'#she's kind of a mess ngl

Raven always had a choice to make. Life was binary for her from birth and there was ALWAYS... a choice to make. As a sister, a student, a friend, an agent, a wife, a mother, a chief, a mentor and... a survivor, Raven could never find herself in a position where there wasn't a terrifying alternative. Perhaps Raven could be jealous, of those who live with unwavering conviction, of those that believe what they believe is right, of those that do not fear their own weakness.
Because all she could ever do... is pray that her choices were the right ones. Wisdom and knowledge are great weights to bear, and for Raven... they became her cage.
"You don't want to do this, Yang." "I... I'm sorry..." -Raven

Info on Raven in RWBY Amity Arena
“Like Miss Scarlatina, Ms. Branwen's ability had to be shaped to fit Amity Arena because her brother Qrow told us, "she can't just teleport anyone anywhere," as he stumbled out of the lobby cantina, vanished, and left us the bill and some... feathers? ----- Raven always had a choice to make. Amity Arena July Update
Protip for aspiring game devs- don’t try and update on the 4th of July, something will go wrong (the game’s been down for hours due to Google Play)
1) New units
Unlike the past few months there’s no specific theming this month for who could be added, but we’re kicking things off with one of the most requested characters in the game.
Celebrate independence with a character who loves to do whatever she wants, with Raven Branwen- a 4 Aura Legendary available from Arena 4.
Like Miss Scarlatina, Ms. Branwen's ability had to be shaped to fit Amity Arena because her brother Qrow told us, "she can't just teleport anyone anywhere," as he stumbled out of the lobby cantina, vanished, and left us the bill and some... feathers?
Raven always had a choice to make. Life was binary for her from birth and there was ALWAYS... a choice to make. Because all she could ever do... is pray that her choices were the right ones. Wisdom and knowledge are great weights to bear, and for Raven... they became her cage.
Raven’s ability is an adaptation of her Semblance that lets her open a portal anywhere on the map and let allies pass through.
Raven actually has a really cool bio, alongside confirming that she actually did marry Taiyang, at least for a short while.
2) Balance changes
Cinder’s damage to turrets has taken a 40% debuff.
Roy does 40% more damage so he can actually be a counter to White Fang Gunners.
Boundless Jaune has been made 2 Aura cheaper but his health and attack have both been cut 50%. He now reaches areas faster when using his ability and heals 1% more.
3) Academy Crate Events
A biweekly event that will happen for three days. Everyone in an academy builds up to a bigger and better reward by gathering Dust Crystals from destroying towers and turrets.
4) Battle of Beacon Skirmish mode
Battle of Beacon but it plays the game for you. Spend a ticket and three hours later, check in and get the rewards.
5) Store changes
The change made for the Summer event of six cards in the store instead of three will remain a permanent fixture. Legendary units will now be available in-store for an exceedingly high price. For all chests above Bulk rank, players can now reroll some of the cards they got in the chest.
6) July event missions
Same rewards as June- 14 epic cards, 140 Dust, 1 Superior at the end of the mission chain.

RWBY Amity Arena Spoilers: Raven Branwen
While we painfully await the RWBY AA update, I want to point out something on Raven’s Bio that was posted on the game’s facebook page:
Perhaps she could be jealous, of those who live with unwavering conviction, of those that believe what they believe is right, of those that do not fear their own weakness
When I read this I instantly thought of the other members of team STRQ, but more specifically, Summer Rose.
Recall in volume 5, when Raven, who so far has displayed a “strong over the weak” philosophy, fighting mainly for herself and to an extent her tribe, bitterly retorts to Ruby after her Patrick Stewart speech “You sound just like your Mother.”
Miles or/and Kerry later commented that this line is a hint on how Raven viewed Summer.
The bio provided by the game may have just given us a hint of Raven’s dynamic with Summer. Summer isn’t just some woman’s face, hair color and eyes that Ruby inherited. She is (to my knowledge) an inspiration to Ruby, who as Jaune said is still out there trying to make a difference, despite that hardships that has fallen on her and her loved ones.
Raven, despite her power and skill, can’t truly say the same about herself, if at all.

It looks to me that Raven has some sort of inferiority complex about Summer, do you think that Raven is indeed ressentful or envious toward Summer due to her being far braver and better that she is or envious of the things that Summer had but that she hasn't ?
i think it's possible, but currently there's very little in the show canon to actually say for certain.
the writers have already described raven as insecure, and since personality wise summer and raven are most similar to ruby and weiss, i could see them drawing parallels with the whole leadership deal, and that could be one source / focus of said insecurity – thanks to the whole "the weak die, the strong live" mentality the tribe has.
if summer follows the same path as other silver eyed warriors and she was naturally gifted, and if raven was projecting when she said "no matter how much training i put her through, she never learned" about the previous spring maiden, well, there's another potential source right there.
then there's also raven's description from amity arena:
"perhaps raven could be jealous, of those who live with unwavering conviction, of those that believe what they believe is right, of those that do not fear their own weakness."
so i think the likelihood for both is pretty high, but to what extent it may go depends a lot on how different summer's upbringing was compared to raven's, how differently they were treated by others (if they were), etc. ya know, anything that could make summer "better" in raven's eyes.
#rwby#raven branwen#summer rose#madmal93#ask.strqyr#if this is the case then ''crossing the line'' from tangled series is near perfect fit for raven and summer

okay but. with the possibility of grimm!summer and raven knowing what happened to her—perhaps even being present when it did happen—this kind of potential paralleling is interesting to me.
they've already planted the seeds for confrontation between ruby and cinder re: grimmification business, so if in the past raven saw what happened to summer but didn't have the means to save her, nor could she give her the mercy of death, then in terms of the current generation fixing the mistakes of the past—making different choices for starters—would the reverse be true for ruby and cinder?
cinder asks what the hound is—"what is that?"—and later, ruby gives the (correct) answer: "that was a person." not a monster to be killed despite the appearance of a grimm, but a person worth saving—as is the purpose behind silver eyes.
buuut it also gives me the vibes of hinting at what the dynamic between summer and raven was like; ruby was born with special gift and she got to go to beacon two years early because of it; cinder had to fight and struggle for her gift (maiden powers) and was deemed irredeemable and thus shutting down her chance of attending an academy bc *checks notes* she killed her abusers, and as such she feels hatred and jealousy towards those (like ruby) who from her perspective were handed everything for free.
summer is practically touted as this paragon of virtue who can do no wrong, and while we do not know what her past and background is like, i think it's safe to assume there's nothing drastic there that could be held against her. raven meanwhile was raised by bandits to be a killer, her actions often viewed in negative light by others, and she hides her true self behind a mask due to her insecurities, and her amity arena bio notes she could be "jealous of those who live with unwavering conviction, of those that believe what they believe is right, of those that do not fear their own weakness."
and the thing is... they both left, and we have no idea what their motivations behind their decision to leave were—we can only speculate and guess. yet summer's choice is often seen as selfless while raven's is seen as selfish, but the result is the same:
neither is currently there with their family.
i should be sleeping but i have A Thought
ruby really only knows summer based on what others have told her—stories, if you will—and summer represents this ideal huntress for her, a goal she should aim towards. that image, however, gets broken in V7 by salem's words—"she was wrong, too."—and if grimm!summer is real, it's likely that image will get even more broken in the future.
cinder has heard many stories about raven—how she's a cunning leader, strong, and clever—and considering how this list is pretty much what cinder wants to be, it's not too farfetched to consider she could have somewhat looked up to raven. however, after meeting raven for real, cinder believes the stories don't quite line-up—"it's a shame that they're wrong."
coincidence??? maybe. but it's giving me much to think about and i'm not even sure what that much is.
#rwby#ruby rose#cinder fall#summer rose#raven branwen#pointlessly rambling to get my thoughts out don't mind me
