It started during pre-season testing in Bahrain. Franco, fresh in his Williams racing suit, had spun on his installation lap – a rookie mistake that had the paddock chuckling. The TV director, whether by instinct or divine intervention, cut immediately to YN in the Alpine garage.

Her expression was poetry in motion: eyes rolling skyward, lips pressed together to suppress a smile, followed by a head shake that somehow conveyed both "I can't believe this" and "that's my idiot" in one fluid movement.

His laugh echoed through the hospitality area. "Some things never change, no?"

The Australian GP brought new material for the ever-growing collection of "YN Can't Control Her Face" content. As Alpine's reserve driver, she was in the garage when Franco scored his first F1 points – a remarkable P8 in a chaotic race.

Monaco was where things reached new heights. Franco, running in P6 during practice, had been providing commentary that somehow always circled back to YN:

"YN's watching, no? Tell her this is how you take the hairpin properly—" Franco spoke through team radio confidently before scraping through the hairpin.  "Ah. Maybe not like that."

The camera cuts to YN's perfect face-palm, followed by a head shake that somehow conveyed both "I knew it" and "why am I even surprised" in one swift motion.

The resulting clip went viral on Tiktok and became F1's most-watched social media post of the weekend.

"You know what I think?" Franco asked one evening, as they shared takeaway in the quiet of the paddock after everyone else had left. The cameras were finally off, but YN's face was as expressive as ever in the dim light.

"That's a dangerous start to any conversation with you."

He grinned, nudging her shoulder. "I think you like that I can't control my mouth."

"And what makes you say that?" she asked, trying and failing to keep her expression neutral.

"Because every time I talk about you, you make this face – like you're trying not to smile but can't help it. It's my favorite one."

"I do not have a special face for when you talk about me."

"Si, you do! You're making it right now!"

She threw a napkin at him, but her smile – soft and genuine and completely uncontrolled – gave her away.

The next day, during the drivers' briefing, Alex caught Franco staring at YN with an expression that mirrored all of hers – soft and fond and entirely unguarded.

Pride Petty Watch (The Untamed) 1/?

I let the crowd pick which two blacklisted shows I would watch from my Petty List, so I flew through the first one knowing I had this 50-episode beast waiting for me. People have warned me that the first two episodes wouldn't make sense, there are a ton of characters to keep track of, I need to watch it at normal speed, and I need to keep the sound on. Therefore, I was already mad before I hit play, yet somehow I started the first episode, blacked out, and emerged five episodes later.

Which means I like it so far, and here's some quick reasons why:

Before I start, these two better be an item because they are my favorite BTS song aka "🔥" and since I haven't seen them in the present yet, I'm fearing something happened to them in that great battle in the past, and if so, I'M GOING TO BE BE LIVID! I've had them for three whole minutes, and they are everything to me, so I feel this story is going to fuck me over.

Everyone is chasing after this golden black snitch, yet nobody is catching it, so although there is a lot of death happening, I'm laughing.

If you squint, My Stand-In and The Untamed are the same. Boys who fell off a cliff come back in another body only to live the same life with the same people and make the same bad decisions. Cool cool cool.

This current lecturer is stating nobody could find the body but he fell into fire/lava, so what body were they thinking they would find?! Also, don't think I didn't catch homeboy getting in trouble in the past for asking in class what happens when a spirit demands revenge and the instructor got upset because look where we are now! Possession of a body for the sake of revenge. Should've entertained the question, professor, because sixteen years later, it will come back to haunt you, literally.

And homeboy applied his own theory of making the possessed bodies work for him to fight the other body. He is a smart cookie, and that's why the original Moo Moo person gave his body up to him.

I can't play an instrument but for a DIY flute made out of bamboo on the spot, I thought his playing was excellent. For people being saved from being squashed, they are some haters, and I would have stopped playing just so they could suffer.

Why is everyone in the Fire Nation so pissed? Is it because it's hot there? All of y'all are doing too much except for that sister and her brother. I know that brother was the zombie guy from the statue fight, so that means the main homeboy was talking to Fire Nation sister at the graves. That was her family's grave, and she must be a good person, who is probably dead now too.

The brat's dad is gold, the Cloud Recesses (what is this name about because they should be a lot more fun with a name like that?) are white and blue, and the Fire Nation is red, so it's odd that homeboy had the dark blue robes with red underneath before coming to school, and keeps getting really friendly with the fire people. Plus the cloud people's power is blue, but his comes out in bursts of red. Is his daddy really Fire Nation? Get Maury on the line.

So his bird buddy gave him porn, which he gave to Fuddy Duddy, who then ripped it up. No wonder why he is so good at school and remembers 3,500 rules. Got nothing but time on his hands since he isn't using his hands doing anything else by being so repressed.

Fuddy Duddy just said he doesn't touch people, yet in the very beginning he snatched homeboy's hand without hesitation, so he wouldn't fall to his death. Then, he snatched that premium liquor for him. I see you and your heart on your sleeve, my man! Just like this water demon, the feelings are sneaking up on you and snatching you up!

Should've bought her the comb, bro, because she's going to be dead after that big battle since she was sent to snoop for the Fire Nation. Even though she is trying to help her brother, I feel this will be y'alls Romeo and Juliet moment.

So the brother was always going to come back from the dead since he already was cursed(?), and my homeboy is once again proving to be a friend to all. I like you, and I will learn your name, hopefully by episode 28.

Only three marks healed in the present, so whoever is the last mark has to be one of these hoochies, and the more backstory I get, the more I think it's going to hurt when I find out who the last mark is.

Half these people have already died leading up to that big battle and the other half will die as homeboy sets out on his Kill Bill journey, so like . . .

Wow, I had no idea about the origin story of Rudolph the Red-Nose Reindeer! If you aren't familiar with it either, read below:

As the holiday season of 1938 came to Chicago, Bob May wasn’t feeling much comfort or joy. A 34-year-old ad writer for Montgomery Ward, May was exhausted and nearly broke. His wife, Evelyn, was bedridden, on the losing end of a two-year battle with cancer. This left Bob to look after their four-year old-daughter, Barbara.

One night, Barbara asked her father, “Why isn’t my mommy like everybody else’s mommy?” As he struggled to answer his daughter’s question, Bob remembered the pain of his own childhood. A small, sickly boy, he was constantly picked on and called names. But he wanted to give his daughter hope, and show her that being different was nothing to be ashamed of. More than that, he wanted her to know that he loved her and would always take care of her. So he began to spin a tale about a reindeer with a bright red nose who found a special place on Santa’s team. She was so touched by the line “They wouldn’t let poor Rudolph play in any reindeer games” that she insisted her husband record the tune.

Within a few years, it had become the second best-selling Christmas song ever, right behind “White Christmas.” Since then, Rudolph has come to life in TV specials, cartoons, movies, toys, games, coloring books, greeting cards and even a Ringling Bros. circus act. The little red-nosed reindeer dreamed up by Bob May and immortalized in song by Johnny Marks has come to symbolize Christmas as much as Santa Claus, evergreen trees and presents. Every month WWX leaves CRRS to visit the wen without anyone knowing but LWJ (i think he noticed) because LWJ make some arrangement that allows WWX leaves anytime he likes. 1 month and WWX still come back. 11. Thank you for all the work you do!! I've been driving myself crazy trying to find this fic. All I remember is one scene. At the Jin banquet, Jiang Cheng allows (sends?) WWX to dual Jin What's His Face. WWX obviously trounces him, but nearly has a flashback, prompting JC to pull him back when he realizes that maybe sending his traumatized brother into that situation wasn't the best plan.

It was either a canon diversion or a JC goes back in time fic, but I can't remember which. It was relatively long and it isn't recent.

Self Indulgent Young Justice/Teen Titans 2003 Relationship and Sexuality Headcanons

Cassie and Kon convince themselves they like each other in Young Justice because they're both gay and closeted. They do love each other, but not romantically. They confuse that for attraction. Plus, I think Cassie is a lesbian stereotype, and Kon is like a gay man stereotype, so it makes sense that the two would go for each other. When they finally get together, they don't kiss because they tell their friends its cause "they both wanna take things slow". Sometimes they'll hold hands (scandalous)

Meanwhile, Cassie is like madly in love with Cissie but doesn't realize it because that's just how best friends are. Plus, she has the whole 'crush on Kon' thing going. I know everyone and their mom loves TimKon, and don't get me wrong, so do I! But in Young Justice, Tim and Kon are constantly butting heads. I don't think Kon starts liking Tim like that until the end of young justice, and he starts to like REALLY like him during Teen Titans.

Cissie and Anita kissed once at a sleepover but never told anyone. Young Justice for Cissie is like a crush fest. She's a bisexual icon, and she's had a crush on every single member of the team at some point (but her most serious ones were Cassie and Anita). She kissed Tim on the cheek in that one panel. She had a crush on Kon in the beginning, and I like to think she had a small crush in Bart but got over it pretty fast, because I've always saw Bart and Cissie as like brother and sister kinda lol (I always think of the panel where she comforts him about Max during the intergalactic baseball arc.)

Cissie can't decide whether she likes Anita or Cassie more and she also can't really come to terms with the fact that she might like girls.

Anita was basically always solid in the fact that she's bisexual. While the kiss with Cissie definitely awakened something in Cissie, Anita was like, "That was nice, but I think we're better as friends." She dates Slobo but doesn't really like him like him, but she thinks he's endearing, so the two are just a generic silly freshman year couple. Okay skip forward to the sadness. Kon dies, leaving Cassie and Tim more confused and sad then ever. Cassie loved Kon, really loved Kon, but not in that way, which makes her feel even more guilty about his death because she felt that she was lying to him while he was alive and she still didn't understand her feelings. Tim on the other hand is going FUCKING crazy. He just lost Steph, then his dad, and now Kon and he's not understand ANYTHINGGG!!! Bro tries to clone Kon and when Cassies like "bro what the hell are you doing?!" It causes like this falling out between the two despite the fact that Cassie and Tim were literally bestie because they both loved Kon so much in such different ways and had all this pent up confusion...and then we get to the infamous panel where they make out while crying. In their shared grief and confusion in their own emotions they kiss. It's weird and both of them literally hate it because they literally are like siblings to eachother also she's a lesbian and Tim just lost like 3 of his actual lovers in the span of a year (Steph, Darla, and Kon) so it was weird and fucked up but they were weird and fucked up.

Skip forward, and Kon comes back to life. Everything's happy! Yay! Kon and Cassie have a heart-to-heart and breakup because they're both gay. Cassie asks Cissie out. Tim comes out as bi and dates Bernard. Kon is like, "omg I have a chance," but it is also sad because like Tim has a boyfriend that isn't him. Stephanie is like "no bro he totally likes you" Eventually, they break up. Idk why bro. (I'm not really a Bernard fan, sorry, remember the self-indulgent in the title?) and Steph convinces Kon to ask him out (I love thar after Urban Legends Stephanie and Kon are like, best friends) and BOOM timkon. Everyone is happy. Happily ever after.

Homestuck's Gnosticism: The World / The Wheel

Everyone knows Homestuck is "a Gnostic story".

Wait, why does it feel like we've had this exact conversation before...?

AH. SO NICE OF YOU TO JOIN ME.

If you followed along with the first post in this series, you'll be familiar already with the Gnostic nature of Homestuck's central conflict between the spirit world and the flesh. And even if I say so myself, I think that post is pretty definitive; if you're ever unsure what a particular character's motivations or end goal are, the Conflict will tell you. But what's conspicuously absent from the post is any explanation of what actually happens in Homestuck. We've covered the why, but very little of the how.

I left us off on the "synonymous goals" that spring naturally from this conflict between flesh and spirit; attaining ultimate knowledge, and escaping the confines of Homestuck itself. Eagle-eyed readers probably spotted what was lying between the lines, there: the comic is called Homestuck because it's about being stuck in a house, so the ending is about escaping the house. But what does that really look like? And how did they get in that house in the first place?

Let's return very briefly to a quote I used in the previous post. "[Y]our ultimate self [...] unlike god tiers or bubble ghosts or whatever, it really IS immortal". Two assumptions naturally grow out of this fact. First, and probably most obvious: when John dies, he's not really gone. The idea of him still exists out there, somewhere, and in our minds, so he still exists. Second, though: if the idea of him is eternal, John obviously didn't start existing when he was born. So again we ask, where did he come from?

How did John get here? Where does he go? The answers to these questions are like the four sides of one hypercoin, in that Homestuck is a time loop... of a sort.

To begin to understand this, we need to reiterate what was basically "the point" of the first post: Homestuck operates on two distinct levels, a spiritual plane consisting purely of ideas, and a "literal" physical dimension. What happens on these two planes often mirrors each other, and because Homestuck itself is a work of fiction which operates in the realm of ideas, they can even intersect. But ultimately, what "literally" happens to the characters in Homestuck is not the same as the ideas the comic is expressing in its spiritual metanarrative.

The fact that a physical time loop is impossible is something Homestuck inherits from real-life physics: to put it simply, John being born can't be the physical John from the end of his timeline, because that John would be way too old to be a baby! But ideological time loops are not only something sanctioned by Paradox Space, but essential to its very being; they are where it gets its name, after all! To repeat another lynchpin quote from the comic: there is essentially nothing new in paradox space. Any idea that seems new necessarily must have just come from somewhere else.

"SbaHJ has the distinction of being the symbolic language of [Dave's] subconscious." (Homestuck: Book 3: Act 4, p. 282)

Frequently we see this expressed in the rooms representing characters' dreams, which, as discussed, sort of transcend the character's physical form and represent the broad ideas that characters are made of. Dave's dreams (pictured above) are covered with drawings of Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff, characters he seemingly invented as a child after being inspired by a drawing Terezi sent to him. But Terezi's drawing was based on Dave's own illustrations she saw later on in his timeline; so which of them truly "invented" Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff? Neither of them did; SBaHJ exists as pure subconscious ideological matter floating through Paradox Space, only sometimes being picked up by a character's conscious mind. Similarly, Gamzee tries to manipulate this subconscious realm when he uses his psychic powers to place a terrifying effigy of Jack Noir in John's dreams, as punishment for the destruction of the trolls' session. But as we know, Jack Noir only took that form because of the nightmares this doll caused! So again; neither John or Gamzee thought up the demonic clown "first". It existed in the realm of ideas before either of them ever had the chance to invent it.

These kinds of ideological loops are the bread-and-butter of jujus. We're told their origins are untraceable and that they can't be destroyed, but neither of these things is really true; these superstitions exist only to obfuscate the true rule that jujus "emerge spontaneoUsly from the void." Rather than be erased from existence, a juju can only be banished to that same void of nonexistence where disembodied ideas live, and then pulled back into the world of dreams by a prospective psychic.

With these rules established, now we can really delve into with appreciation the ideological time loop that underpins all of Homestuck. And like all good time loops, the best place to start is at the end.

ACT 7 (Are you tired of seeing it yet?)

Let's not insult anyone's intelligences here: you know and I know that Caliborn's little house juju looks like the Homestuck logo because it is Homestuck; when he wins it from Yaldabaoth, he takes control of it, and when he sucks the heroes inside, he's trapping them in the confines of his material world.

What's essential to keep in mind here, though, is that the power of a juju is the power of the idea itself. It's easiest for us to think of the word juju in Homestuck as a concrete noun, referring simply to a magical object. But the word's real-life origins, referring more abstractly to magic or enchantment, are still relevant in this fictional framework. Lil Cal isn't just "a juju", but is "FILLED WITH BAD JUJU." Magic in Homestuck has always really been about the idea that believing in something can make it real, and the purpose of all Homestuck's dealings with chucklevoodoos and jujus is to evoke the anthropological concept of the "fetish"; an item whose power comes from human beings ascribing supernatural qualities to it. Jujus are all part of the "game" the cherubs play, with all its rules and quirks; breaking an enchantment is like breaking a rule, in that it changes nothing about the real world: you've just infringed upon an idea. The juju isn't the object; the juju is the power, good or bad, ascribed to the object.

All of this is really just to say one thing: Caliborn's home juju can't trap the flesh versions of John and his friends; as we established, you can't send old John back in time to become young John. But what a juju can trap is something far more important; the ideas of John and his friends. This is why it doesn't matter if the heroes who travel back to the beginning of everything to beat Lord English while he's still a kid are the "main" timeline versions of those heroes from some point in the future, or if the Epilogues' version of events is truth and they're some "irrelevant" offshoots: because all of those characters are represented by the same idea, and that's what Caliborn puts in the box. No matter what timeline John is from, he's from Homestuck, to Homestuck he must return, and as such Homestuck is what he must be forced to escape. Refer again back to the previous post: Caliborn can't create or destroy, only take pure ideas and alchemise them down into a form he can control.

And that's why Act 7 so enigmatically features two different white home-doors (above), seemingly so interconnected yet effectually unrelated. Because Act 7 takes up the hefty role of concluding two storylines simultaneously: allowing the "real", flesh-world versions of John and his friends to escape Lord English's reality through one door, while also concluding Homestuck's metanarrative by setting the ideas of John and his friends free of their prison through another door.

So far, most of this is probably stuff you'd have either figured out on your own or at least heard from someone else already. And if we set aside such distractions as run-ins with radioactive imps and omnipotent dog-gods, the "whats" and "hows" of the heroes' story are probably the easier parts of Homestuck to figure out. What's more difficult to fully comprehend on a first pass is how Lord English himself fits into all of this.

If you've been following me for any stretch of time, you'll notice in my analysis of Homestuck I've returned to the topic of black holes frequently. I've lost track of how many versions I've published of what I call "Black Hole Theory". And I won't link to any of them here, because ultimately Black Hole Theory was a corkboard to which I could pin the evidence that would eventually, piece by piece, lead us to where we are right now:

If the home juju is a white "hole" leading out of the confines of Homestuck as a story, then black holes are the doors that lead back in. An early clue to this comes in the form of Calliope's stage in the heart of a spiral: these spirals are Calliope's visions of black holes, which she uses as "dark pocket[s]" from which "no information can escape" - a literal description of a black hole - and that stage is the very same one Caliborn stages his story on when he takes full control of Homestuck's narrative. The meaning here should be clear: Calliope creates black holes, and it's the center of these black holes where stories can take place.

But for all the evidence we need to suggest that Lord English's fall into a black hole leads to something more complex than just his destruction, we need not look further than conventional science:

In the quantum world [...] information cannot be created nor destroyed.

This rule that "ideas" are truly immortal, and that any time an idea seems to be destroyed it must have merely been transported somewhere else, holds true even in the scientific world of black hole physics. This has been played with in MS Paint Adventures before; theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking's take on black holes was that some stuff could in fact escape a black hole, contrary to Calliope's assertions, in the form of Hawking radiation. But Hussie's own version of the story was always a lot more to the point: something gets sucked into the center of a black hole, it gets shot out somewhere else. In hypothetical physics this is called a white hole - no doubt you can see where this is going.

So Lord English's final moments in Homestuck see him not destroyed, or killed, or defeated in combat in any traditional way, but sucked right back into Homestuck. What exactly does that mean?

As long as we're talking the power of ideas and symbols, possibly the most blatant a symbol can get is in the form of a gesture; and the thumbs-down is possibly one of the most ancient gestures there is. Dave gets one, Tavros gets one, and, so they say, even the Roman gladiators got them. This precedent makes the meaning of the gesture clear: "you're going down." And it makes sense, too, that Hussie, the "good author", would signal the "evil author's" demise in such a way. But some might question the effectiveness of the power of gesture at such a pivotal point in the comic. Are we really to believe that English's defeat was, even in part, the result of another author merely willing him away like a tyrant doing away with an entertainer who has fallen out of favour? Or did the Hussie-character actually have some kind of plan to deal with his Hulk-like alter ego?

Of course he did.

...now Caliborn has hijacked the property of his experiential continuum which he has reason to believe is called "the narrative". Little does he know you recently made the shrewd decision to purchase(?) the ACT 6 ACT 6 SUPERCARTRIDGE EXPANSION PACK! Just plug it into any in-universe console port to unlock a variety of exciting new gameplay features and proceed through remaining canon unfettered, while Caliborn muddles through six new sub-sub-acts of infantile "subversive parody" targeting the very tale he inhabits, none the wiser!

To allow our heroes the chance escape their narrative prison, English isn't just to be trapped in their old cell; it's to be trapped within an infinitely-recursing cell, not just reliving one story over and over again but forced to live out infinitely many different stories. Not just a narrative loop; a narrative spiral. That's what being sucked into the black hole means for Lord English.

When Roxy - the Hero of Void whose very symbol is that of the black hole - banishes Caliborn-as-Cal into the void, he becomes one of the very wandering ideas with which English plays like dolls. "Instances of [Doc Scratch] have spawned in countless universes", and they have "never once failed to complete [their] objective": whether he wants to or not, Lord English will always be born again. In a new universe, perhaps, maybe even in a different shape, but his role always the same. Caliborn thinks that by filling the supercartridge with special stardust and corrupting the story, he's won, but looking at the bigger picture the truth is clear: he's only playing by somebody else's rules.

Just as Skaia uses lotus "seeds" to store items away for later use, and employs meteors as "Seeds" to send important elements back in time to set up the beginnings of new stories, so too are English's cue ball "seeds" only a means of transporting his essence from one place to the other; the black hole and the Rapture are, after all, only Skaia and the Reckoning sized up to a truly macrocosmic scale. The cue ball is able to be a font of endless knowledge because it is the "white hole" at the other end of the black hole! No information can escape a black hole, and therefore there is no information that escapes Scratch's attention -- he is limited only by his "pockets of void", which exist only to, in time, be filled, as more and more falls into these black holes like a multiversal game of billiards. Not only is this a transparent allusion to one of the most fundamental representations of the paradoxical time loop as a concept, but it is also the ultimate insult to injury: despite having lived an infinite number of lives, and being cursed to live out an infinite number more, Lord English cannot know what his fate will be until he literally falls into it. This is what forces him to lose, over and over again for eternity, while our heroes triumphantly escape Homestuck onto greener pastures.

If I knew this was going to happen I would have stayed at the village. I was currently standing in front of a Thanator, correction a very pissed Thanator. I have to thank Lo’ak later for messing with the baby thanators and pissing off their mother. The said idiot currently standing next to me, his knife in his hand ready to defend us against the creature. Kiri and Spider were above us in the trees thinking of ways to help.

Suddenly I see an arrow flying through the air landing next to the thanator’s leg. Causing the creature slowly turning around and running away. Me and Lo’ak finally breathing again.

“ARE YOU CRAZY?!” we both turned around to meet the person who saved us and yelled at us.

Neteyam didn’t look impress as he and his Ikran landed next to us. Kiri and Spider also coming down looking relieved.

“What are you all doing here? It’s pass the boundaries that we are allowed.” Neteyam’ s gaze moved from me to Lo’ak.

“Chill bro we were just exploring.” Lo’ak met his brother’s gaze, he knew he was wrong all of us knew but he still had to talk about to his brother.

“Ye exploring the ways to die.” Neteyam took deep breaths to calm himself down, I like to believe he has gotten used to his brother’ s behaviour.

“Well, we didn’t die, me and Y/N were handling it.” Lo’ak put his arm around me.

“Yeah exactly.” I said proud.

Both me and Lo’ak were way too stubborn to ever admit that we fucked up. Neteyam glared at me.

“Seriously, why do you always follow through with him?”

“Because he is my best friend, if something happens to him it happens to me.” Lo’ak smiled at me and I returned his smile.

“Love birds.” Everyone looked at Spider, him immediately running back into the forest back to the village with Lo’ak chasing after him and Neteyam just shook his head, his braids moving from side to side, his hair had a mind of its own, following the two boys back.

“Boys…so immature.” Kiri said as we also started walking behind the boys.

“Tell me about it.” We both giggled.

Thankfully we avoided a lecture from Jake since Neteyam didn’t tell on us, knowing full well he will also get scolded for not looking over us in the first place.

It was now after eclipse, everyone (the Sully’s) was gathered around the fire.

My parents were gone, my dad was a Na’vi, and my mom was a sky person, a good friend of Jake her name was Trudy. Their love was forbidden but like Neytiri and Jake that didn’t stop them. But unlike Jake and Neytiri my parents didn’t live a happy ever after. My mom died while giving birth to me and my dad died on the battlefield while fighting among side Jake. After my parents’ death Jake and Neytiri took me in as their own, they were my family.

“Y/N, Lo’ak.” Jake looked at us. We both looked at him.

“You guys are adults now, have you started thinking about choosing a mate?” Me and Lo’ak exchanged looks, we haven’t discussed it yet.

“I haven’t thought about it yet.” Lo’ak said.

“Same.” I said after. Jake nodded ending the conversation and returning to his food.

I have always had someone in mind, someone who was currently eating his food, someone who always saves me when me and his brother get in trouble, someone who is tall, muscular, amazing warrior and handsome. Neteyam was someone I knew saw as a brother but as so much more.

The Next Day

Me, Kiri, Spider, Tuk, Lo’ak and Neteyam were sitting next to a waterfall not too far away from the village. Tuk was playing with the nature around us, or with the small animals that would fly around us. The boys were in the water splashing each other. It was rare for all of us to get a free day and it was even more rare for Neteyam to join and actually have fun instead of standing at the side being protective. Kiri and I were sitting on a rock next to the water.

“So have you really not thought of a potential mate yet?” Kiri’s question caught me off guard.

“No not yet, there is time though I am only 18 after all.”

Lo’ak emerged from the water sitting down next to me.

“Same here, what if we mated.” He said it so casually like he was saying the weather was nice. I played along though because why not, we always joked around.

“Sure, imagen what our lives would be, should we do it before Eywa or find somewhere else.” I wiggled my eyebrows ( a trade me, Lo’ak and Kiri shared along our 5 fingers.) Both of us laughing when Kiri rolled her eyes not taking us seriously, while Neteyam looked flabbergasted.

“What are you two insane?” Neteyam asked taking us seriously.

“Nope, completely sane and also Y/N, would you like to swim?” Lo’ak turned to me with a devilish smirk on his face.

“Oh no, don’t you da- Lo’ak!” Before I could even finish Lo’ak picked me up in his arms (bridal style) and jumped in the water with me.

“You crazy bastard!” I splashed him with water when I emerged from the water. Lo’ak laughed along with Spider while Neteyam and Kiri covering their laughs. I started chasing Lo’ak around the water and when I caught up to him, I grabbed his head and pushed it under water. Before I could continue, strong arms wrapped around my waist pulling me away from him and towards the shore. Neteyam put me down next to Kiri before smiling at me saying “Please don’t kill my brother I know it’s hard not to sometimes.” His smile was so beautiful I couldn’t stop thinking about it.

Soon we had to go back to the village, through the way back me and Neteyam were at the back talking.

“You know Y/N you are so beautiful when you smile.” I couldn’t believe my ear, did Neteyam just flirt with me. His hand patted me on the head lovingly. Maybe he did see me as more then family as well.

Later

It was dinner again; everyone was around the fire eating. Neytiri suddenly started talking.

“So Neteyam, how is your mate search going.” My food got trapped in my throat and I started coughing at the sudden question. Everyone looked at me questionably but I just apologised and drank some water.

“Actually, yes mother I have.” Neteyam responded with a smile and my stomach turned. Everyone looked at Neteyam.

“Who is it?” Neytiri asked clearly excited for her son.

“It’s Eyra.” As soon as the name fell off Neteyam’ s lips it took everything in me not to vomit.

Eyra, the person I hated most on Pandora, of course, of course it had to be her. Eyra is my older sister. My parents had her 2 years before me, she blames me for mom’s death. Growing up she made my life hell. At first my dad’s relatives adopted us both, they were my grandma and grandpa but Eyra kept on turning them against me, ripping a basket and blaming it on me saying that she saw me, bullying me outside the tent, calling me a 5 fingered freak. She got her friends to beat me up and call me names too and would get one of her friends to hit her so she could tell grandma that I hit her, and she was defending herself and grandma believed her, always her. One day Lo’ak found me all beaten up and took me into his family that understood that my living situation had to change and since then I have lived with them. And now Neteyam wanted to mate with her. But I am not surprised it was always here it will always be her.

At night

Everyone was asleep, everyone except me. I couldn’t sleep not after feeling betrayed by Neteyam. He knew how much my sister hurt me yet he still wants to choose her as his mate, it really hurt.

I needed fresh air; I tip toed through the sleeping bodies and went outside going next to the end of the mountain where the village was located on. I sat down my feet dangling off the edge of the mountain. I started thinking about my past about how hard I tried to get Eyra to love me.

Lo’ak POV: I woke up feeling like something wasn’t right. I looked around and saw that Y/N was missing. I noticed that there were footsteps leading outside, I followed them and found Y/N sitting at the end of the mountain. I walked towards her and once I got close, I heard her little sobs. When at her side I quietly sat down next to her and pulled her into a hug, my arm around her and her head resting on my shoulder her tears rolling down her cheeks. We sat like that in silence for a while.

“It’s not fair Lo’ak.” She finally spoke. I knew what she was talking about I knew the moment her face looked like a ghost when she heard my brother saying her sister’s name, someone else might have missed it the way her face changed but I knew her better then anyone else and I especially knew how much she was hurt by her sister after all I was the one who found her, bleeding and bruised.

“I know flower I know.” I moved my hand up and down her shoulder.

“Why does it always have to be her? First getting to meet our mom and experience her love, then being grandmas and grandpas favourite, not getting the “curse” of the 5 fingers and now getting the guy I love.” I couldn’t help but grab her face making her face me.

“Hey listen, you might not have experienced your mom’s love but you have experienced so much other love, my mom loves you like you are hers and so does my dad, your sister doesn’t have family that loves her just because of her they love her because she manipulates them to, but you are loved for who you are for your personality. And I know that having 5 fingers is known as a curse but what if we aren’t cursed just unique.”

Y/N POV:

Lo’ak’ s words really touched me. He was right I have a loving family and maybe I am not a freak just unique. I need to know my worth.

“Thank you so much Lo’ak I really needed this.” I smiled at him.

“Always, you are my sister.” He smiled back at me. We hugged.

After sitting down for a little bit more we stood up and went back to the tent. I went to sleep smiling.

Waking up the next day I decided to not let Neteyam’ s choice ruin our relationship. However… after waking up and not finding him anywhere I went out to look for him and found him near the forest. Right as I was about to go and talk to him I saw that someone was with him… Eyra. They were looking at each other, not noticing me not far from them, I hid behind a tent and when I peeked to look at them I saw them kissing. At that time I knew me and Neteyam’ s relationship would never be the same, it was too painful.

A week later

It has been a week since I saw Neteyam and Eyra kiss and I have been avoiding him like the plague. Whenever he would try to talk to me I would turn the other way completely ignoring him. At dinner when he would pass me something I would take it without sparing him a glance. I spend most of my time with Lo’ak who understood why I kept my distance with his brother. Kiri also found out why fairly soon I couldn’t keep it from her. She understood me as well.

It was a day where me, Lo’ak and Neteyam join Jake and Neytiri on their attacks against the sky people’s weapons. We were supposed to be in the air but I really wanted to go and see the weapons. I lower to the battlefield and Lo’ak and Neteyam followed. Just as I got handed a gun a big explosion sounded that send all of us flying. Me and Lo’ak were okay, but Neteyam was bleeding.

 Jake found us and immediately got us to safety. Me and Lo’ak got on our ikrans while Jake took Neteyam with him.

When we reached the village me and Lo’ak got a massive scolding from Jake. Afterwards, I went to help Neteyam. Yes, I was still hurt by him but he got hurt because of me.

It was only us two in the healer’s tent. I took a towel to clean away the blood from Neteyam’ s wounds.

“Why have you been ignoring me?” Neteyam suddenly asked. I didn’t respond but just kept cleaning his wounds.

“Y/N.” He said in a serious tone. I stopped cleaning his wound instead I stood up in front of him.

“Why do you think Neteyam you want to mate with my sister. When you know full well what she did to me. How could you?” I raised my voice at the end. Neteyam looked shocked for a second before getting annoyed.

“Come on Y/N that was a long time ago, she wants to make it right with you.” He stated like it was the most simple thing ever. Now I was angry how dare he make it sound like I am being the one in the wrong.

“Right with me? Don’t make me laugh she is a snake that is manipulating you to hurt me because she knows that I care about you.” Now Neteyam also stood up.

“Care about me? You have been ignoring me for a week, what is wrong with you?” Neteyam was annoyed. He was annoyed at me when he didn’t have any right to.

“You! You are what’s wrong with me Neteyam! I love you or more like I loved you I always have and you choose my sister. Why is it always her that gets what she wants?” I couldn’t help the tears that escaped me as I continued to talk.

“Y/N…” He looked at me with pity.

“No don’t Y/N me, you didn’t care for my feelings when you kissed her either, I saw you kissing!” He tried to grab my arm, but I moved back whipping the tears off my face.

3rd person POV:

Neteyam tried to hug Y/N, but she pushed him off feeling stupid for even saying anything.

“Y/N I am sorry, I didn’t mean to.” Neteyam felt awful he didn’t realise how hurt Y/N actually was by her sister.

“You know what it’s fine Neteyam I know my worth and I am not going to wait around and wait until you see it I deserve someone who sees me.” With that Y/N walked out of the tent, leaving Neteyam devasted.

Just as he exited the tent to go after Y/N, he felt a hand on his shoulder, turning around he saw his brother who looked angry at him.

“Don’t follow her bro, she needs her time.” Lo’ak was angry at his brother for making Y/N feel that way but he also knew his brother. Kiri and him have been talking about how Neteyam has changed ever since Y/N stopped talking to him and they knew their brother. They knew he liked Y/N even if he wouldn’t admit it or even realise it.

“Also, you might want to look over there.” Lo’ak pointed towards Eyra who was kissing another boy not too far from the brothers. Right then is when Neteyam realised how big of a mistake he has made.

He realised it when he didn’t feel a tiny bit sad that Eyra was kissing another boy but he felt devasted when Y/N started ignoring him.

He really screwed up…he had to fix it.

Ty for the ask anon ! Honestly some of these questions are things i originally wanted to include in the explanation post but ended up deleting because i didnt want to make it too lengthy so Im glad to talk about them now!

1. Martin doesnt remember Chris clearly, he has some blurry memories and flashes but its mostly the feelings he remembers if that makes sense. Like how he was close with Chris and loved him a lot, the feeling of fear everyone felt when Chris went missing and the despair when no one could give them closure, how lonely he felt after.

He doesnt really know what Chris could look like, maybe he likes to imagine, but you cant really get accurate answers like that. Also with cases like his you often see detectives constructing images of what the missing kids could look like now years later and I thought about Chris getting one of these done but he probably would only do that if he sorted through everything else because while Martin thinks his brother is alive, Chris firmly believes that he died a long time ago. He doesnt really think the image would be useful

2. Hes half brainwashed and half doesnt remember a lot of things naturally because of a traumatic reaction. What he has been told was that they have been through a traumatic accident (like a car crash) of some kind that damaged his brain temporarily and thats why he barely remembers anything from his early childhood and has some memories that never actually happened (the memories of the Kratt family) and he believes thats true because frankly, he has no reason not to. Maybe he questioned it when he was younger, but as an adult your childhood memories get really blurry (especially if youve been through something traumatic) so he kind of just accepted the car crash excuse to be true. He suspects there's something hes not being told but he doesn't even think of him being kidnapped as a possibility

3. A little, yes ! The reason Martin wanted his brothers case to be investigated again was actually because of how bad it affected his parents even after 20 years, which is just the sad reality of missing child cases. This part is unfortunately not that well developped yet, but maybe the Kratt brothers father fell really ill and Martin was worried hed have to pass away without knowing what happened to Chris, or maybe they got divorced after not being able to move on from the incident evem after all that time, ill have to think about it but whatever happened motivated Marin to contact detective Chris.

Either way I do have 2 scenes in my head that include atleast one of them ! The first one is where Chris and Martin go back to Martins childhood home to search the area again, and they briefly talk to mama Kratt who still lives here, and she takes one look at Chris with a mothers eye and thinks "wow he looks exactly like Chris" and although she doesnt believe its actually him she does think its some sign from the universe or idk something sentimental !! I just rhink itd be sweet of her. I also think itd be interesting from the pov of Chris because this is a maternal figure who treats him really nice and he just cant help but notice how different his mom is from Martins yk sad feelings...

Also Chris gets to reunite with his parents after everything goes down :)

4. Hell Yeah!!

Martins missions here are a bit more professional as he doesnt really have anyone to goof around with but he still has fun because he gets to gush about animals to the team.!! (He definitely wishes he had someone with him out in the field) Also i guess the villains are also interesting here because dealing with them alone causes confrontations to drag out, and they also become harder and more serious, especially with Zach as he got a big advantage with 'the crawler'. Aviva does jump in to help a lot but shes a bit limited because at this point she hasnt finished making her own cps yet (this might become relevant later i havent decided yet.)

In the last part I assume you were asking about how they feel about Chris, and they do meet a lot while Martin and Chris are working on the investigation, and Koki actually helps them a lot with her computer skills. The crew also grows pretty close to Chris, i mean he kinda just clicks with them, and he latches onto them a lot as he hasnt really had proper friends before. Like ever. Basically theyre just found family i love them. !!!

May I start off by saying that I love that you created a master list because I like to go and reread your thoughts while I wait for your next update(when I'm not rereading your other works of course).

In a world where Jace/Aegon elopement plan wasn't successful or other stuff down and miraculously war doesn't break out on Visery's deaths and Rhaenrya is able to ascend the throne peacefully. But Jace and Aegon are married off to other people, mostly because Rhaenrya believes her daughter needs a stronger consort than Aegon would provide and Aemond and Lucera have eyes for eachother so she can't use him.

How long is Aegon able to control itself before he ends up inadvertently starting a minor war/uprising/rebellion when he murders Jace's husband in order to become her second husband. Because as mentioned before Aegon would 100% try to murder Aemond if he was betrothed to Jace. I think he would go full on Yandere/insane if someone else got married to Jace(especially if he sees how much Jace does not want to get married).

It’s another spinoff AU of my Main Timeline, like how Lavender is a spinoff AU, and the premise is “what if the Dance happens…kinda…but nobody actually dies because everyone is too horny to function, and the genre is romcom instead of tragedy.”

Aegon and Jace don’t elope, so Aegon marries Helaena but it’s unconsummated because Aegon continues harboring delusional hope he can marry Jace somehow. Fast-forward to Viserys dying, and Aegon is more readily persuaded by the Greens to take the throne because as king, he could have the Faith annul his marriage and leave him free to remarry someone of his choosing. 🤔

Rhaenyra sends Jace and Luce as envoys to represent her interests/claim to potential allies. Luce encounters Aemond at Storm’s End, and they argue so much that Borros kicks them both out of his castle. Then they keep arguing outside, and Aemond has the brilliant idea to just…kidnap her. 💡

Aemond brings Luce to the Red Keep, and Aegon’s like “that’s not fair, why does Aemond get to kidnap his wife.” Then the bros find out from Luce that Jace is supposed to go North after the Vale so she can marry Cregan Stark. Aegon panics, and he and Aemond kidnap Jace too while she’s in transit. New Targ tradition, you have to kidnap your wife before you marry her. 😍

So both Jace and Luce are (pampered) prisoners at the Red Keep. Luce says to Jace, “hey I think Aegon is still really into you, you should take advantage of that and seduce him.” To which Jace replies, “fine, but you have to do something about Aemond so he doesn’t take Vhagar out for mass murder.” 🤝

And uh. That’s how you stop the Dance of the Dragons, I guess.

because anyone who knows arthur morgan knows knows why he says revenge is a fool's game with a pained look, or through gritted teeth. because there has always been an exception, and finally that exception has a face. absolutely nothing is going to stop arthur from killing kieran duffy

hosea knows he has to tell bessie. warn her she can't bring kieran home or else they'll be digging another grave, and visiting another van der linde in jail. and bessie has to pause because for god's sake it's just not fair. arthur is her son, and she died before isaac was born but she knows there is nothing in the world arthur loves more than that boy, and she has heard from hosea how much the grief of that loss almost killed arthur - but kieran is her boy. and out there, alone, well he's as good as dead

it's just... not fair. life had never given kieran duffy a chance. even with how much suffering he's gone through and struggling with modern era, it was the first time kieran actually had people in his corner who cared about him and now thanks to one awful goddamned night in 1896 that has haunted him ever since, he's lost everything again. and no one can fix that

when she finally locates him, kieran is broken. bawling. the kind of crying where your throat's already so tight and dry you can't even wail. she only caught up with him because he is so upset he had to stop running to throw up. all she can do is hold him because the usual platitudes of it's going to be okay are complete lies.

she ends up taking him to a motel. after hours of crying, kieran shuts down. borderline catatonic. he's lost everything. arthur is being kept at bay because he still has to look after isaac, but kieran knows the target is on his back and arthur will kill him. it's guaranteed. bessie can control her husband but nothing will stop arthur morgan

at home, really uncomfortable lines are being drawn. hosea is, albeit hesitantly, agreeing with arthur that kieran is out. out of the gang, out of whatever found family they have. he is dead to arthur and the only thing stopping him from killing him is the fact he would go to prison and miss more of isaac's life

sean and lenny are a lot more conflicted. sean can't see it. cannot imagine meek as a little lamb kieran duffy being the one behind the trigger that killed isaac and eliza, but is inclined to agree if it's true, kieran's on his own

lenny can't. lenny can't let go of it. kieran is his friend. kieran still needs help, he's still scared and traumatised by everything he's been through and lenny is the only one at that point who can talk to kieran everyday because he's the most competent at asl. he got to bond with kieran over learning it together. lenny asks sean, out of earshot of arthur, what he would've done. because kieran was only 23-24 at the time. what are you meant to do in that situation? sean can't answer.

the sheer guilt, the isolation of losing his relationship with the gang despite bessie's best efforts to check on him at least once a day, and fear of knowing arthur would kill him (hell eliza would kill him) ends up leading kieran to attempt to take a long walk off a short pier. he ends up hospitalised and later institutionalised when it becomes clear he cannot cope on his own, without constant supervision

most of them visit kieran because they do care about him and it's just so brutally unfair that fate has cursed him to his coincidence. the one time in his life he does something so unforgivable happens to be the night he killed eliza and isaac.

arthur makes it clear he doesn't like that they all keep up with kieran, and won't tolerate conversation about him in the house. most of the gang are vague about going 'around the coast' instead of saying they're visiting kieran.

this would be an everything sucks au. arthur doesn't reach the level of peace because he will always hold onto the rage of knowing who killed isaac. isaac ends up being a much more nervous but also angry kid because that's how he's seen arthur react to things. hosea probably dies before bessie because he spends a lot more time in the house just bored and lonely after everyone moves out instead of having kieran to fuss over. none of the later gang visit kieran and still refer to him as o'driscoll despite it obviously making bessie and lenny as kieran's closest allies squirm.

It’s only with Gaz, for some reason. He’ll help anyone else but Gaz. Gaz returns the favor. Horangi forces them to play Mob of the Dead then screams about it later. Gaz also picks the worst maps to get back at Horangi. They are no longer allowed to play together, especially after the Hell Hound Incident.

It’s not that Roach tries to make them fail— He just sucks at the game. He’s not big on shooters and panics when the enemy swarm him. Thankfully there isn’t friendly fire because he has wasted so much ammo on teammates. He has shot Ghost so many times and then screams when the enemy show up. He’s been banned from playing now and cries about being excluded despite knowing he sucks ass at the game.

“GHOST- HOLY SHIT— I’M OUT OF AMMO!”

Ghost ignores him.

“PLEASE THE BRUTE—“

Loud sighing.

Once more, they allowed Roach to play Minecraft with everyone. No one has said anything about his past crimes so König is unaware of how Roach is when he plays. That’s okay. König is worse. Everyone got together and took over a village and made it their own… and König discovered a Ancient City under it. He had made a massive mine that allowed the Warden to get to the surface relatively easy. Everyone was screaming and discovered all of their loot was misplaced (stolen) and they all had to run and abandon the village. Now both König and Roach are banned from playing. That’s fine, they went a made a server together.

Don’t trust Ghost when he says he knows a place while playing Elden Ring because he does know a place. A place where you’ll die without a chance to defend yourself. If he dies to a boss he’ll lure the others to that same boss and watch them die. He has days on this game, way above everyone else, so if he dies to a boss they don’t even have a chance. They don’t play with him anymore.

Price enjoys attacking people on Fallout 76. He constantly has a bounty on him. Roach took after him quickly in this game because they both tried to kill each other and failed. Now they team up and hunt everyone else. Since Price has reached the SPECIAL cap and is now using his power for evil, the entire game turned into a manhunt. You can’t bribe either of them to leave you be. You can’t join them either. All you can do is run. Though Ghost has gotten the jump on Roach, he didn’t escape Price. Needless to say they don’t play with them anymore.

Soap is a bitch at Mario Kart. Don’t try to play as Wario. Wario is reserved for Soap and Soap alone. He has a deadly aim with shells and always picks one person to target each game. He’s not even trying to win, he’s just trying to fuck over his chosen victim. He pisses off everyone when he does this and has actually been punched over it before. Only those who don’t know him play with him. The fools.

They were all excited for Battlefield 5. Then Roach, König, and Ghost reminded them all why they can’t have nice things. So much screaming and cussing and literal death threats. Roach always chases the closest person. He usually goes after König because he panics and can’t aim worth shit when he panics but sometimes he goes after Ghost… and immediately regrets it. If Roach or König get the drop on Ghost— They’re dead in real life. If the three are on the same team they spend the entire time fucking each other over. Soap hates playing with them because they don’t take the game as seriously as he does.

When playing For Honor, König is actually scary good at this game. At first he helped out Horangi but once Horangi showed a tiny bit of skill it was over. König insists that he targets Horangi because he just wants to help him improve. Everyone knows that’s a lie. It doesn’t matter if they’re on the same team or not, König goes after Horangi. He’s nice to everyone else but Horangi gets ‘special treatment’.

“FUCK YOU!” Horangi screams after König team kills him and then refuses to revive him.

“I love you~”

Horangi doesn’t feel loved.

Price and Gaz started playing Day Z to have something just for them. After they got a good footing in the game they decided to be nice and invite everyone else to play with them. They helped everyone get started. Helped them get okay gear and weapons… then the betrayal. Everyone was cussing and screaming as Price and Gaz killed them and took their gear.

“Execute Order 66,” muttered Price.

That would be their only warning before all went to hell.

War Thunder is normally only played by Nik and Kamarov. It’s their game and they usually play when no one else around, meaning no one had any clue to what they were like. Have you ever been sniped by a tank? No? Don’t worry, Nik will make sure you have a lovely experience. You won’t even see him and you’re dead. There’s a lot of Russian screaming, you have no idea what’s going on, and Kamarov just dived bomb you for the third time in a row. Nik and Kamarov are a deadly team. Price flipped his tank and Nik and Kamarov didn’t kill him but did keep everyone else from helping Price.

The one time Laswell was over for game night, Soap’s mom also happened to be there. To be nice they all picked a fun game that the two would be able to enjoy. A game that, normally, none of them rage over. Soap’s mom picked Kirby, gushing over how cute he was, while Laswell picked Toon Link. Soap had forgotten that his mom plays this game with his nieces and nephews and only mentioned it after she kicked everyone’s ass. Only Laswell stood a chance against her. Soap automatically cheered for his mom but quieted down after a murderous glare from Laswell. They all discovered Laswell’s competitive nature and that Soap’s mom was a sore loser that night. They swore to never play Smash Bros again.

People who claim that RWBY has "bad writing" just because they don't ship Blake and Yang irritate my entire being

Let me rant for a bit lol

1) they claim that it was "out of nowhere" or "poorly developed"

Have we been watching the same show? While I don't think it was perfectly executed (no story is), Yang and Blake are very clearly an example of the friends to lovers trope. They've cared about each other deeply from the first arc. They go through so much together, helping each other overcome trauma. This couple has a very solid foundation. Then, the nature of their relationship clearly shifts to become romantic in later volumes. They've been planting the seeds for it for years already.

2) they're mad Blake isn't with Sun even though they had a crush on each other in early volumes.

Have yall never had a high school crush before? It's cute, but that sort of thing dies out with time. Blake and Sun went their separate ways and haven't seen each other in a while. So much has happened in the story since the last time they saw each other. While I understand the criticism that Sun kind of disappeared without much explanation, so has most of the other characters from the Beacon arc. CRWBY has a lot of ground to cover in terms of story telling, and the episodes are short and each volume only has several episodes. My hope is that we'll get to see what everyone else is up to when the time is right, and Black Sun shippers will get some sort of closure. I've always shipped the Bees, but I respect Black Sun as a ship!

3) they claim that "this wasn't what Monty would have wanted" and that the writers "gave in to the threats of the toxic side of the fandom"

How do you know? Were you in Monty's brain? We'll never know (rest in peace, king). I'm sure Monty probably had an idea of where he wanted the story to go, and I'm sure CRWBY is trying their best to honor that. Also, stories evolve. I think CRWBY has created a vast and expansive world with interesting characters and a phenomenal plot. Sure, it's not perfect. But it's fun, and RWBY as a franchise has grown up alongside many of us, so it has a special place in my heart regardless.

I hope it's not true that people were sending threats to the writers to see their ships come to life. At the end of the day, these are fictional characters. Plot devices. No ones wellbeing should be threatened over that. That being said, the ugly parts of fandoms are often just a vocal minority. I think most people who ship the bees are just gays who love RWBY and love seeing wholesome wlw representation.

Also, Blake and Yang's romance isn't a huge part of the show (it's more so in this volume since they finally have a break from the Salem mess so they finally have a chance to work through their ~feelings~). So, it's easy to skip if you like the show but don't like the ship.

If you don't like RWBY, don't watch it. Point blank period. If it's such "bad writing," move on and find a different franchise to pour energy into.

The Siege III, Pt. 5

And so Sheppard returns to Atlantis, re-materialized right into the gate room down from the Daedalus using Asgard beaming technology, and we arrive at the scene that has been giffed a thousand times. The hug. A big moment for Weir and Sheppard. Not necessarily a romantic one but monumental all the same. It is a moment of character growth for the both of them.

Sheppard is surrounded by an escort of four marines as he materializes and he immediately orders them to secure the gate room. He knows there are wraith still loose in the city. He then calls out:

Sheppard: Well, I'm home!

First of all, we learned during the previous season that Sheppard and McKay both think of Atlantis as home. But it's not just Atlantis, they had found a home specifically in each other as unlike everyone else, neither of them believed they had anything back on Earth waiting for them. Sheppard looks around and scans the upper levels of the gate room while he calls out, clearly looking for someone that would be waiting for him to come home, that friendly face that McKay had mentioned in his message in Letters from Pegasus (S01E17). It is Weir that meets him and indeed seems to be walking directly toward him, but it doesn't mean he was saying that to Weir. In fact, he can clearly see Weir out of the corner of his eye while he's still looking for that someone else that he called out to, thinking he might find them on the upper floors.

Weir walks to Sheppard and directly goes in for a hug. Sheppard doesn't quite know how to react. I guess they were doing this now. After a moment he lifts his hand and presses it against her back, a kind of a pat. This is a bro-hug, not a I'm glad to see you again, love of my life, I thought I had just lost you hug.* He keeps his eyes open the whole way, actually frowning in confusion -- and more importantly, we get to see him do this.

This is very unlike the Weir he knows, and the fact that Weir feels the need to hug him probably isn't just about what happened just a moment ago but also from what she had witnessed before when Sheppard had thought McKay died with the satellite. She thinks that this man needs a hug. His hands fall down just as soon as she lets go, although she leaves her hands on his arms, seeming to need to feel that he is there, that he is tangible.

Weir: Yes, you are. I truly thought... Sheppard: Yeah, yeah, I thought the same thing about you a minute ago. We gotta stop that! Weir: I'd like that!

Let me emphasize this point: Sheppard is still looking for the person he announced his home-coming to after having seen that Weir is coming toward him. And here, he doesn't even let Weir finish what she was about to say but cuts her off with a "Yeah, yeah," indicating that this is a topic he'd rather not continue talking about, at least not with her.

Sheppard doesn't seem to know what to think about the hug. All through the first season we saw him avoid physical contact with Weir and to keep some kind of a barrier between them, turn his body away from her. The reason for that we don't know but there definitely was a pattern of behaviour that he exhibited consistently. Now, it may have nothing to do with Weir in particular. I'll return later to what in his past might make him seem uncomfortable around older women in positions of power. But Sheppard has learned to know her pretty well, and something had definitely happened between the last two episodes of the first season that had brought them closer together.

But he's still not comfortable with physical contact. He's doing the lip thing. He's not licking his lips because he's so turned on by "lingering desires, secret longings for her touch" or what ever people think happened here, because every time we have seen him do this, ten out of ten times, it has been connected to a strong negative emotion. It's a self-soothing technique he uses when he is emotionally overwhelmed, when something is making him anxious.

We don't know why he's doing it here but an older woman in a position of power breaching his personal space and violating his bodily autonomy can certainly be among those reasons, glad as he is to see her still alive. He is also not looking at her lips; he's momentarily unsure of where to look because he very much wants to look away so as to be less exposed, as he definitely feels exposed with her looking right at him. But then just decides to soldier on and look head on at her. At the very least, he is made uncomfortable by this public performance of emotion since he's not very good at expressing emotions, as he later tells Teyla, and he definitely does not like letting them show.

True to form, Sheppard makes light of the situation to make it feel lighter, as the expectation of an emotional response makes him feel very uncomfortable. So here they are, cracking jokes about what had just happened. We never get to see Sheppard and McKay's reunion but given what we saw of both of their reactions to the other nearly dying, holding back tears and at a loss for words, do you think they would be cracking jokes about it right away? They were both deeply injured by these events.

To get past the awkwardness, Sheppard gets back to business, returns to safer waters. There are things he needs to know, so he asks for a status report.

Note also his use of the 'we' pronoun throughout, which he most often uses to mean "myself and McKay," here referring again to "Atlantis". Weir told him "Yes, you (sg.) are [home]." Sheppard responded with "I thought the same thing about you (pl.) a minute ago. We gotta stop that!" This, his use of the plural pronoun, is another way for him to create some emotional distance to Weir. He seems to need that barrier there.

Sheppard: So, uh, where are we? Weir: Well, most of our sensors are still down, but we do know there are at least a handful of wraith still in the city. Sheppard: Still got some work to do. Weir: Before you do anything, Colonel Everett insists on speaking with you. He's in the Infirmary.

Also worth noting is that Sheppard does not walk like this with McKay, trailing behind him and shoulders squarely facing forward. With McKay, he needs to see him. He needs to see McKay's face because a big part of their communication happens through looks and expressions. Sheppard has to walk in front so that he can twist back to see his face. Sheppard does with McKay what Weir is doing with Sheppard here.

Weir points out to Sheppard the same thing that Teyla pointed out to McKay: that there are still wraith roaming free in the city. The clean-up is still on-going. McKay is not tucked away in bed with a sandwich, he is taking care of the remaining wraith in the city. And this is important.

We don't get to see what happened between Sheppard and McKay when they first saw each other after everything had passed but we know that they had met up off-screen. We don't see nor hear anything of McKay after he took to taking out the rest of the wraith with Teyla until McKay calls Weir and Sheppard into the control room after several scenes have passed. Sheppard has seen Col. Everett at the infirmary, they have fished Ford out of the ocean, they've had time to examine his medical situation and discuss it, a considerable amount of time has passed. While Weir and Sheppard are with Beckett in the med bay, McKay hails them to the control room, and then we get an interesting bit of dialogue from Sheppard:

Sheppard: Aren't you supposed to be getting some sleep, Rodney? McKay: I was trying to do just that, but someone thought I should know the deep space sensors were back up and running.

So, McKay has been trying to get some sleep between leaving the power room with Teyla and this moment. And for some reason, Sheppard knows about this. From what we've seen on-screen, he has no reason to know about this. Sure, he has seen that McKay is exhausted, although even before he took off on his suicide mission, Sheppard had not witnessed the whole extent of McKay's exhaustion and what he had had to do (take stimulants, go-pills) to be able to function. Sheppard might just assume that McKay had been sleeping, sure. He'd beamed back in, was going from one emergency to the other, and hadn't spared a single thought to McKay until this moment and just assumed he had to have been sleeping. It's possible it went down like that.

Only, Sheppard says, "Aren't you supposed to be getting some sleep" like he's the one that told him to get some sleep previously. Like he's reminding McKay about something they've talked about previously. Like he's the one that had to wrestle this man into bed and he's disappointed to see him here now because he is supposed to be getting some rest. He needs to get some rest. It is important to Sheppard that McKay gets some rest. He is accusing McKay of having gone back on his word to get some sleep, and McKay seems to hear this accusation as he's quick to blame Zelenka for having dragged him back to work. And there is clearly a scene here that is missing, that we never got to see. And this is obvious. They can show us Sheppard's reunion with Weir, hug and all, because there's nothing going on there. Their emotions are within normal parametres for colleagues, for friends. They cannot show us Sheppard's reunion with McKay, not even if there had been a third parties present like there was when McKay returned from the satellite, because the emotions between them are much too raw. Both of their cups haven't just run over but have spilled all over the damn table.

So, we saw Weir hug Sheppard. Is this meant to somehow parallel what would have taken place between Sheppard and McKay? It's doubtful, as hey both seem to be way beyond an embrace healing what has been injured in them, of soothing what is still freshly aching. Sheppard seemed clearly apprehensive about having to meet up with McKay again as he beamed down and called out for him, he was clearly dreading the moment. It's much more likely that McKay would have taken a swing at him. And Sheppard wouldn't mind if he did, wouldn't even blame him. He'd catch that fist, push him against the wall and crush their lips together with all the pain he had felt when he thought he'd lost him. If they could get past this without having to talk about it, he'd prefer it. No, Sheppard was more afraid of what he'd see in McKay's eyes or better yet, that there would be something he could no longer find there. That he had broken something in McKay for good. He'd prefer he took a swing.

There is also a well-known connection between sex and death. According to Freud, humans have two primal drives, sex (Eros) and death (Thanatos). The death drive and the pleasure principle are related as we feel pleasure when we get rid of excitation, and we feel displeasure due to unresolved tension and a constant urge to release it. Tension keeps building up in the individual, which, once it reaches a limit, is channeled outside of the self in line with the pleasure principle. This means that the presence of death intensifies sexual desire which e.g., leads to increased procreation during times of war.

The looming threat of death leads to more fucking, is the thing. It is one way in which individuals can come to cope their their feelings of fear, vulnerability and sadness, and given how repressed both Sheppard and McKay are when it comes to their feelings, how they are both unable and prefer not to talk things out, it would be natural for the intense emotions both of them have had in the past few days to come out in a quick and raw attempt to reconnect. This, between Sheppard beaming down and having told McKay that he needed to sleep. At the very least, the first thing he says to McKay betrays that he is thinking about him in bed.

Weir told Sheppard that "before you do anything," Colonel Everett insisted on speaking with him in the infirmary. And it is in the infirmary that we next see Sheppard, as he quickly takes off from Weir after she tells him this. But it is not necessary that he went from Weir directly to the Colonel. It is doubtful he was that keen on seeing the man, and he certainly wasn't keen on finishing the discussion they had earlier. He was dreading meeting him. The fact that Weir even has to say it to him means that she knows there is something else he wants to do before anything.

And the way Sheppard takes off, he had places to be. Before he did anything, Sheppard needed to see McKay. He didn't care what the Colonel "insisted," since that once more was not an order. Weir does not know how to issue orders in a way that doesn't leave Sheppard leeway to do what he wants to do anyway. And like when Weir "expressed her need" for Sheppard to stay back to look for the Alpha Site when McKay was leaving for the satellite platform, he takes off without saying anything, without looking at her, without acknowledging her implied order in any way. He takes off quickly because there's something he needs to find before anything else.

And he wanted to see McKay. He needed to see McKay. That was his first priority. Even Weir seemed to know that because otherwise she would not have needed to tell him to do this before anything else. She knew that there was something Sheppard would have done before seeing the Colonel unless she told him this, and he very likely went to do what he wanted to do anyway. Sheppard takes off to the direction we last saw McKay go when he left the gate room, not looking back. He does the lip thing again just as he leaves, this time signaling his discomfort at not knowing what to expect upon seeing the Colonel in the infirmary, not knowing what the Colonel wants to speak with him about given their previous talk. He doesn't yet know the shape the Colonel is in. The next time he does the lip thing is when he learns that there are 12 more hive ships coming their way. That is the kind of context in which Sheppard chews on his lip. That's how uncomfortable Weir hugging him out of the blue made him.

If you are getting to know someone romantically, or even dating them, and they only give you this hug, it might mean they only view you as a friend.
