At this point, Hinata couldv'e texted him about anything on the planet and he would've gone. In his head, he weighs his options of staying here and leaving the jersey talk for tomorrow.

Or leaving, and letting you both have some time apart to sort out your feelings.

He's barely able to think on it before his feet force him to get up and make his way to the bathroom, popping open the door to call to you.

He just hopes this works.

"Baby, I'll be back!" He calls, voice above the rushing water.

"Hinata needs to steal me for a while to talk about our new jerseys, I should be back in a few hours."

By the time he comes home, he's surprised to see the lights turned on.

Typically Kiyoomi can come home at any hour and find you in bed, asleep, clinging to his pillow, but tonight, it seems you either forgot to shut everything down, or you're still awake.

Maybe if you're awake, you'll be able to sort out whatever happened today before going to bed.

When he walks in, the house is quiet. Scarily quiet.

"Nice of you to show up."

Yeah. You're up. And you sound bored.

The house is still active, but rather than make a dash for him to leap into his arms for affection, you're instead on the couch, eyes heavy and face sad.

He sighs and walks to meet you in the living room, and whatever angry look you try to pull gets demolished by the wobbling of your lip. “What’re you still doing awake?”

You turn to look up at him sadly, tears swollen in your waterline as you blink at him expectantly. “I missed you.”

He smiles at your words before shrugging off his jacket and folding it over in his arms, “I missed you too, baby. How was your night?”

“Quiet.” Your lips twitch as if you want to say more, but no other words fall from your lips. He gives you a small chuckle and scratched the back of his head.

“That’s… exciting,” he offers. You shrug. The tenseness in the room makes him want to throw up, he’s not used to this coldness from you- typically, you’re throwing yourself at him, especially with how you were acting earlier, but now you seem like you couldn’t care less about him. "Did you do anything?"

"Nope."

"Where did you go?"

He shrugs, "Hinata and Bokuto wanted to talk about the new jerseys and the plan for practice tomorrow; then we got dinner and had some drinks."

"And you didn't think to text me? Not once?"

He swallows thickly, but his pounding head desperately wants to call it a night. “Why don’t we go to bed, baby?”

He smiles and nods as he makes haste to the bedroom, happy facade dropping once his back is towards you. All he wants right now is to curl up next to you and knock the rest if the day away, praying that you're in a similar headspace.

He all but tears off the clothes on his back, dressing into far more comfortable wear as he goes to wash his face. Usually, you're right next to him, butting your head against him, nudging him to the side so you can join him, or youre sitting on the closed toilet seat just to watch him.

You seemingly have no interest in doing that tonight.

By the time Kiyoomi's done, his stomach churns as you're still not in bed, surely it hasn't taken you more than two minutes to get some water, and with an exhausted, and almost annoyed groan, he shuffles back down the hall to see you.

“Hey,” he mumbles, rubbing his eye. “How come you’re out here? I thought we were going to bed?”

“You didn’t kiss me today.”

He didn’t?

“What do you mean?” He asks, stalking over to the couch. You shuffle over to make room for him, but your eyes never meet his. “I kissed you so many times today, baby.”

“No,” you snip. “You didn’t. I know, because I’m so used to you giving me kisses.”

“I’m... I'm sorry, I guess I just-“

“And you barely hugged me, either,” you sniffle. His brows furrow and instinctively, he tosses an arm around your shoulder to try and calm you down. “Any time I’d reach for you, you’d look at me like I was some nuisance, and make me feel bad for needing the affection.”

“Of course you’re not a nuisance!” He says, rocking you both. “God, fuck baby, I’m sorry, I thought you just needed some more attention than usual and I just-“

“I’m not done.”

A wave of nervousness shudders down his spine, but he pulls back slightly to give you your room to piece together your thoughts. Had he really been that neglectful today?

“You didn’t even eat dinner with me; you went out with the boys. I was in the shower, I didn’t even get a kiss goodbye- you called out a quick ‘love you!’ and went off doing whatever it was you did tonight. You didn’t call, and you didn’t text, and I was home alone, thinking that I did something wrong.”

"No wonder you’re upset- I’m sorry, baby. Whatever I did today wasn’t a reflection of how much I love you; I just got a little busy, and I didn’t mean to hurt you. I’ll do better tomorrow.”

He feels sick, he could throw up on this rug right now, if he had anything to even puke up. Your shoulders heave, and he’d rather chew on broken glass covered alcohol before ever wanting him and his neglect to be the reason for your distress.

“I forgot,” he blurts.

It does, he wants to argue. It matters, because you matter to him, and he abandoned you on a night that is so sacred to him, the day you crashed into his life and made him realize that whatever he was doing that put you on the road to him, was exactly where he wants to be.

He looks down at the clock on his iPhone, as it creeps over the 45 second mark, and he darts down the hallway. He runs like he’s being chased, like he’s on fire, and you can’t hide your noise of surprise when he bursts into your bedroom and tosses gangly arms around you and plants kisses all over your face.

He holds you so tight you could pop, and he sponges all the kisses he can over your neck and cheeks, and he hears you trying to fight back a giggle, and it only eggs him on to continue.

“I love you,” he pants. “I love you, I love you so much, every day I’m grateful for whatever being is watching us for putting me on the road to you. I don’t know who I worshipped right to be here, but I’ll be damned if I let my own stupidity sabotage that.”

“Kiyoomi,” you say, voice delicate and trying to stop itself from breaking. “You forgot. I just wanted... I wanted you to show up. You couldn't even give me that."

Your words sting him sharply, even if he deserves every single one of them. He reels back slightly, gnawing at his lip as he tries to think of ways to fix this, fix the way you’re looking at him and feeling, fix the clear hole he’s singed into your heart.

You curl up into your side of the bed, pulling the blankets high, and he doesn’t know how long he does it, but he just stares at you. It’s like he’s waiting for you to scream at him, or cry, or do something that he should feel even more shitty for.

But it doesn’t happen.

You sniffle a few times, shuffle once or twice, and he doesn’t know just how long he’s been standing there until your breathing turns rhythmic and peaceful for the first time today. Your shoulders rise and fall, back facing away from him and god, he feels like such a loser about to lose the greatest thing that's ever happened to him.

You're going to leave him. You're going to see just how much he takes you for granted, how much more you're worthy of and how much more love anyone can give you- even if you still wanted to stay in the jackals, and he wouldn't blame you for shifting your love to someone like Hinata or Meian for a second.

He cares immensely about the way the chairs from the island in the kitchen have no grip to them, and refuse to keep the blankets strewn across them up.

And fuck the knitted blanket draped over the lamp and top of the couch, because it refuses to stay the hell up and he's had to make at least four mad dashes to catch the falling object.

The fifth, naturally, crashes to the floor, and he can only sigh in defeat as he continues to fix the fort for the nth time.

"I'm armed," your voice yells from down the hall.

He chuckles, "no you're not."

You groan in annoyance before padding down the hall, and he turns his head to acknowledge your exhausted arrival.

“What’re you doing, Kiyoomi?” You ask, knuckling your eye. “It’s one in the morning.”

“It’s 12:23 pm on the east coast in America.”

You cock a brow, and he blinks simply before turning back to his blanket fort. He feels your eyes boring into his skull, but he ignores it. He’s busy.

“It’s 1:23 yesterday.”

“Komori is on the east coast,” he says easily, tongue poking out in focus. “Somewhere, I don’t really know where, I don’t know American geography. You giggle, and he brightens at the sound. He takes a soft sigh to calm down, “and I just… I know how bad I am at showing it.” He stands up and makes his way towards you, and when he cups your cheek in his hand and you mewl at him, he could cry from that alone. “But you are the only thing that matters. My only exception to any rule I could make. And I couldn’t give you the bare minimum, on the second most important day to do it.”

“If I forget your birthday, I need you to leave me,” he chuckles nervously. You slowly walk up to him as if timid and unsure, and when he opens an arm to ease you into a hug, he lets out a breath he didn’t even know he was holding as he squeezes you close. “I’m so sorry, baby.”

“I know,” you assure. There’s a comforting silence between you both, your cheek nuzzled into the dip of his sternum before you hum.

“Can I go with you to size jerseys tomorrow?”

“I’m not going to get my jersey sized tomorrow,” he says without missing a beat. You tense up in his arms, and before you can protest, he shushes you and cups the back of your head to keep you close. “They will live for one day without me. It takes four minutes tops. They will get over it.”

“No buts,” he says, pulling back and looking down at you.

“No.” He leans down to capture your lips in a kiss to shut you up, soft and familiar but just enough to keep you calm for him. You purr into the kiss and let your hands wander around his torso, fingers fisting the fabric of his night shirt tightly.

The fingers on your head gently fists the hair at the nape of your neck to keep you grounded for him, and the whimper you pant against him has him in euphoria.

Hello! I just wanted to say I stumbled across one of your posts and ended up looking through the trans tag in your blog for a while and idk it felt so so nice to see a middle aged trans guy just living life and being there for others who are at earlier points of their own trans related journeys, and I hope I can look as awesome as you and be as comfortable in my own skin and style and everything when I'm older.

I guess I also wanted to ask if you had any insight or advice about a couple things, if you're willing to share.. First thing is, did you ever struggle with passing but looking much younger than your age and that somewhat affecting your perception of yourself? I'm 28 and I started T 11 months ago (though at a pretty low dose because I wanted slow changes) and my face just recently started visibly shifting to a more masculine contour and I love it, but I still don't really look like a 28 year old guy.

I've always passed easily even before T but people think I'm like 18-21 max. Things were fine while I was in college (I came out at 19 so for a while my face just felt fitting enough and didn't make me feel either dysphoric or in a weird age limbo) but every year it feels more frustrating and makes me feel sort of alienated from myself including in mental ways, like I'm just a little kid who can't grow up. Like I'll never look like a "real guy" even though I can be stealth because I look like a weird teen and not like a grown up man. It's especially bad when I look at my amab younger siblings who are now also adults and see how I "should have looked" in some other life if I was cis. I guess maybe that's just another manifestation of dysphoria that I didn't have to deal with before? Did you ever experience something like that? And if yes did it get better after some years on T or how did you deal with it?

The other thing is just.. internalized transphobia. It's one thing to know things in a logical or intellectual sense but it's so hard to really feel and believe it sometimes and let go of all the awful transphobic stuff my family said to me during the first years of me being out. I just kept going anyway because I needed to be true to myself and my family basically bullying me wasn't gonna just magically change how I felt about my gender, but what it did do is put my already low confidence and self esteem (in this context regarding my gender) down on the floor. And sometimes I still just think and worry "what if they were right and I was wrong and I'll never be real and valid because of x y z", "what if I'm just delusional", "what if I'm a ridiculous freak". I know, in a way, that no I'm not. I'm just a trans person and they're just transphobes. But feelings like that just get to me sometimes and I don't really know what to do about them even nearly 10 years after coming out. Does that get better at some point? Just like you kinda stop giving a shit what people think about you in general as you get older? But how can you change those internalized views affecting what you think of yourself?

Bit nervous about asking this stuff tbh, so sorry it was so long also sorry if I worded any of it in a not so great way.

I will say though, that seeing older trans people like you does help a little bit. Just makes it feel like "hell yeah I wanna be like him when I grow up". Looking young.

Oh my god, yes. I was getting carded to buy superglue and spray paint well into my late 30s (I started T at 33). When my partner first asked me out for a date, they were worried I wasn't old enough to drink yet (I was 36).

This is me 1 year on T, age 34.

Years 6 & 7 (ages 39 and 40), is when I feel I started looking older.

I feel like it's only been recently, 14 years in at 47, that I look in my 40s, and a "mature" adult. My beard finally getting full helped, as did my receding hairline. And I feel like my skin texture has toughened up enough, to where wrinkles show more.

That said, yes, it is tough and annoying to deal with. Even when people tell me I look like a particular cis man (where I actually see the resemblance, lol), when I look at us side-by-side, I feel like I'm just a pale shadow of him. I feel jealous and dysphoric, even while I'm flattered by the comparison. I wonder what I "should" look like, and it feels like something has been stolen from me. Its a roller coaster of emotions.

That feeling never really goes away, but you need to afford yourself some grace. You're going to be your own worst critic, and I guarantee you that, of many cis men you grew up with, you can probably still see the kid in them. So of course, you're going to see the kid in yourself.

But, you also just need to let time run its course. HRT is a marathon, and a lot of changes don't really settle for about 5 or 6 years.

I hate to say "enjoy it while you can" because I sure as hell bristled at being mistaken for a teenager or barely 20 when I was in my 30s. But do enjoy what you can of it. Because once you hit middle age, you're going to start dealing with a strange intersection of dysphoria and aging that I myself am still trying to navigate.

One other way I help myself get over negative feelings is to think of how differently my life would have been if I were cis. I honestly worry I would have been a worse person; even though being trans creates a lot of obstacles in my life, I feel like it's been a net gain: being able to know myself so well and help others learn about themselves.

Internalized transphobia

This got better for me with age. My epiphany was that, even over a decade into my transition, I was still softening myself for the benefit of friends and family. I was still using my gender-neutral birthname (I only recently changed it). I would call myself a "person", "guy", or "dude", instead of a "man". I dressed on the young and casual side, eschewing full-on masculine outfits like proper suits with ties.

I only recently pulled myself out of this. It still is a habit-in-progress to refer to myself as a man, even though I have always felt like one. And I've started to dress more vintage, not just because of hyper fixations, but because it's a way to lean into a presentation that is unequivocally, "this is a middle-aged man". And it's done a lot of good for my mental health.

What I'd suggest is to see if you are holding yourself back in any way wrt your gender presentation or how you talk/think about yourself. Give yourself full permission to acknowledge that you are a man, full stop. You're a young man, sure. But still a man, and a full-ass adult at that.

I hope some of this helps. Transition gives us a unique toolset for examining who we are and how we want to move through the world, and that work certainly doesn't end after finally getting on HRT. <3

In general the stans just fully hate the idea of abuse victims that can negatively impact the "good characters" in the show so they start coming up with some bullshit reasoning to make it so that doesn't happen in the fanon version they made up and think is real.

Whether you like her or not, Chloe is 100% an abuse victim but the issue that people had with her is that her character arc was centered on her (which is a good way to go about it because change starts with the self), she didn't have people to immediately vouch for her "goodness" (coughfelixandzoecough) cause it's not her victims' jobs to help her if they don't want to, and she did backslide a bit cause old habits die hard. That is to say it was far too realistic for their liking (at least in the earlier seasons) and it didn't end with her being a Marinette dicksucker so they say that she deserves to be abandoned by the man who raised her (white male apologia is abundant in ML) and abused by her mother (yet another case of characters being abuse apologists). Compare that to what happened with Zoe and Felix. Just not a good look all around when you're only willing to think that only "perfect/good" abuse victims are the only valid ones.

And there is nothing wrong with Adrien reacting "badly" to any of the news he gets. I'd argue that at the very least him finding out about Gabriel being Hawkmoth doesn't really have anything to do with his abuse narrative and might even have more to do with him being Chat Noir. Him reacting badly to his dad being a terrorist would be just as natural as anyone irl finding out a family member they were close to was a serial killer. The real issue isn't about his "bad reaction" it's that it'll affect all the "good" characters that "tried their hardest" to keep him in the dark because "they love and care about him so so much." (Not enough to let him be his own person but sure. These people are on the verge of becoming his new abusers lbr.) It's about how his "bad reaction" will Make Marinette Upsette.

Honestly, I think the stans would even be on his side if canon didn't have Marinette insert herself in the family drama and stupidly keep it a secret because she doesn't want to be inconvenienced with the fact that her bf has real emotions and could possibly be upsette with her for even a second. She was the one that brought this on herself and for some reason people think that Adrien should take the blame for it?

Like ultimately they don't want to think about "abuse" as anything other than a buzzword but one that only applies to Marinette and maybe a select few but only if that select few is part of the "good character" group and if they immediately forgive her if she did something wrong and willingly become one of her on call servants.

It’s not dissimilar to how Goku behaves! That Next Adventure will always be waiting around the corner, so why sit still? Settling down has been much nicer as a dream than a reality, so far.

Especially because, imo, P’uar might’ve set the bar way too high for him. Yamcha’s constantly validated, can do no wrong, and no matter where he goes or what he does, he will always have someone waiting for him with a huge smile and open arms. He has stable emotional support already. He idealizes all of that, and romantic affections, which is a completely unreasonable expectation to have for a real partner. (Even Chi-Chi, famously enamored with her own traveling man, has limits on what she’s willing to greet with a smile!)

Likewise, I think it’s great that Bulma never planned on being married or having kids, just like Vegeta (she notably didn’t marry Vegeta in Future Trunks’ timeline, and is implied to have never planned to marry him, while still being his partner). And just like Vegeta, she wound up in circumstances that made her happy doing both (arguably because her dynamic with Vegeta is reflective of her own experience and priorities, and they both value each other being able to be Very Much Themselves while proudly wearing both titles. Neither of them need each other. They’re each a choice the other makes on a daily basis, which was likely what made her so much more secure with Vegeta — having that shared emotional trait of needing to be The Most Valuable Thing, vs Yamcha’s emotional trait of needing to find The Most Valuable Thing.)

Anyway. I love when Wants vs Needs are in conflict with each other, I think it makes for really fun character writing. And I also really like when couples who don’t work out are both Okay with that. Especially when they find out all they ever actually wanted from each other was a friend.

Yoichi never expected Kaiser would accept this crazy idea. He had it last night talking to Bachira before he returned to Barcelona with his team.

“Buddy, you need to make Rin pay for hurting you, he doesn’t deserve you”

“I’m the one to blame, I accepted that contract extension in Madrid instead of picking that multi million contract with PXG. I love Rin and we have a great connection on the field but the moment I start to stand up on the team he will start getting jealous and turn it into a competition, with Kaiser I feel more comfortable because we have a competition but if I’m the most logical pass to score, he won’t get upset. He might just make on of his stupid comments but high-five with me and get over it” 

“Then don’t say it’s your fault, you had valid reasons to do what you did and if he can’t understand them… then screw him!” Said Bachira looking at his best friend “now if you want him back… make him jealous with someone he will hate to see you with”

Kaiser and Shidou popped to his mind, however, Kaiser was the best option for this. He is attractive, he surely will be willing to annoy Rin and most importantly, he’s single.

Next day he was still shaken by the break up, the memories of Rin’s cold eyes looking at him angry saying “we should break up if you aren’t willing to come with me to Paris then forget about me” and watching Sae’s same eyes every time he send a pass to him, made it even harder.

Kaiser the second captain came at him and called him out. This was the moment he asked him to meet him after practice, he accepted.

After their conversation, they waited a couple of days to show some public affection to each other, like holding hands or a kiss here and there. 

Then a month later they moved together. His family was happy to see he moved on, Isagi just thought “if they now this was part of a big problem to get back with Rin”

The Ballon D’or ceremony arrived and there was Rin with… Nanase?! What the fuck?!

Kaiser could feel Isagi’s holding tightly his hand and he looked around knowing exactly something was off, his weird mental connection with him worked even off the field, and spotted Rin with his dog, Nanase.

“That fucker…” Kaiser was about to punch him in the face but Isagi held him back “no, it’s ok… I should have expected this… our relationship was on the newspapers and he is doing the same” even with that cold analysis from him Kaiser knows him too well but decided to do as he told him “ok…” he kissed his head and Isagi just smiled.

They walked in avoiding the journalists, Rin and Nanase. Inside they looked for their seat and once there Isagi collapsed in tears “I was an idiot to believe he wouldn’t do something like this… my eyes are only good on the field but not out of it”

He knows people were around them so he knows this was just the Blue Rose being a great actor… however… he can’t stop his heart from skipping a beat and kissing him back.

Kaiser became a huge support for Isagi, he helped keep him motivated after that incident and they noticed Rin was a little annoyed at the after party as Isagi and Kaiser were chatting with other former members of the Blue Lock project and some of their teammates and they seemed relaxed.

Kaiser, now and then, looked at Rin and smirked, satisfied without Isagi noticing. They made the promise that Isagi won’t look at Rin all night. Even when they got the award for the best Eleven of the 2023-2024 and even considering that three of them were top 1, 2 and 3, only by a couple votes away from the other. Kaiser was top 1, Isagi was top 2 and Rin top 3, because the first two players were key in the Real Madrid championship.

Since Rin was in Paris and he was in Madrid, they barely seemed each other and Isagi spent his nights alone, his heart was turning into a stone because it felt like being single but without the right to see others because, of course, he wasn’t in fact single.

Now he spends his nights with Kaiser, watching movies, playing video games, cooking and speaking about that day’s match or just having sex and ordering takeouts, because even though they were acting as a couple, they allowed sex in their deal.

And, even though he keeps denying it to Bachira after a Clásico or if their next match is close to their current cities, he can’t help but keeps falling in love with Kaiser, Rin’s memory keeps getting blurred in his mind and he keeps realizing that he was missing a lot with the long distance relationship, like cuddles or just waking up next to someone.

Meanwhile Kaiser was dealing with his own doubts, he noticed Isagi was less concerned about Rin and was looking for his touches but maybe it was just to keep him satisfied because he was a whore for him, he wasn’t a real boyfriend but a tool for his ultimate goal, he was okay with it but he wasn’t ready for the day Isagi will kick him away. 

He never believed in true love, he had a terrible experience as a child so now that he has someone he really loves, he wants to keep him by his side and love him.

One night Isagi decided to open up with Kaiser “Michael…” he said as they were on the balcony looking at the night skyline of Madrid, both cuddling under a light blanket, it was almost winter so the weather was getting colder.

“Huh?” Said the man looking at him.

“Thank you” Kaiser looked stunned at him “thank you for accepting this… I didn’t realized how lonely I was until we got together” Kaiser knows he hasn’t finished yet “some nights I felt so lonely that I had cry my eyes out to sleep” he felt Kaiser holding him tighter “and I thought this would last forever and that I would always be living in this storm”

“Yoichi...”

“So right now I'm happy to have you by my side, Michael” he smiled and, for the first time since this deal began, Yoichi kissed Kaiser and he could feel something different... Feelings in that kiss.

Their first kiss with true feelings ever since this started. And for the first time they didn't have sex, they made love.

They reached Christmas, Kaiser still couldn't believe Isagi was actually happy to date him and thankful for him. Now he can't lose him, if Rin ever want him back, he definitely will fight back to keep him.

His birthday arrived and Isagi invited him to go to his favorite restaurant and gave him a present.

“Michael... I know you aren't a fan of this time of the year but...”

“Yoichi, I made peace with my past a long time ago, maybe this particular day is a tough one but now I have you with me”

Isagi smiled and blushed a little “good then, I have two presents, one for Christmas and one for your birthday” he handed a little box and a big box.

Kaiser opened the small first and there was a ring with blue roses around it and inside was written his full name and his date of birth.

“Yoichi...” He was amazed by it's beauty.

“I ordered one for me too” he said showing him his own ring. His ring had blue footballs entangled with black chains “and mine has my full name too and my birthday date”

Kaiser smiled and put on his ring “it's beautiful, thank you” then he opened the big box, it was a football signed with their former teammates at the Bastard München and it looked like the ball he bought when he was a kid, he had some tears in the corner of his blue eyes.

“There's a letter inside” Kaiser nodded, knowing if he try to speak his voice might fail him.

He got out the letter, the cover was a picture of them after their first league together as a team. Behind the picture there were a few words.

“I wrote this to you” he handed him a letter with japanese letters “I know I suck at this but I asked Sae to help me” 

“Sae helped you?”

“Yeah he said his little brother was a shitty boyfriend and he wanted someone special for his favorite striker. And it wasn't about me because I would never date Rin Rin” he said his nickname with sarcasm.

“Good idea” Isagi turned to read the message and it said a simple “I love you, shitty boy” Isagi smirked and looked at him then kissed him again.

It was official. Michael Kaiser and Yoichi Isagi were in love and a real couple.

shipping in Boruto is so fucking stupid. We should focus on the story not who Boruto fucking fucks.

I mainly dislike Shipping for that reason. I see people care more about who Naruto fucks than his fucking happiness or his story.

It's funny how people think a ship being cannon makes the story bad. How did NH worsen Naruto? By giving Naruto a beautiful and devoted wife and a good ending? (I bet most people forgot that Kiba can use Shadow clones)

Most people who ship SnS know it's a toxic relationship, no wonder they are the worst humans to exist. Sns is my brotp, stop ruining it with your gay fetish shit (Because to me, Naruto is my closest Friend).

People who shop NS wanted a god awful shonen wife trope while Ignoring that Sakura loves Sasuke and sees Naruto as just a friend. Don't get me started on the Girlfriend/Sai excuse because if this is how you validate your ship than it's not a worth while ship.

Look you can ship the fuck you want but some ships don't deserve the light of day in cannonical continuity.

Shipping is just another way to enjoy the series of course it shouldn't ruin the story either.

Like there are times I feel the ship ends up running things SasuSaku a prime example we got a trainwreck of a relationship, Gaiden was not the best story overall I think the writing could have gone much better if they didn't force SasuSaku or were willing to go down a darker path. While in Boruto Sarada's potential is just wasted badly and her character isn't that good, but they seem intent on keeping in the plot. While other better written characters don't get as much focus nor achieve their full potential. There are also ships that honestly add to the plot if they happen as it gives an excuse to involve a good character more, but also more writing opportunities.

Of course in most series the pairing shouldn't make the series itself bad I have had plenty of series where the ship I liked most didn't sail and while I do think they missed many good opportunities still enjoy the series and find the writing well done overall. However those are in cases where I find the ships that happened at least reasonable with good writing behind it.

For example if NaruSaku happened that would ruin Naruto quite a bit as the series has been about a boy was starved for love and never knew proper affection getting with someone who treats him harshly, but also in love with someone else. Like you said it does not deserve the light of canon the writing of the pairing is just bad it paints an unhappy future for our MC which is not what we want.

NaruHina however is a give and take relationship where both get what they need from each other plus and makes up for all the suffering in their back stories. The ship itself works out perfectly and is a good way to wrap up the stories of two characters with similar sad back stories by making them end up happy together. Their pairing and love story compliments their back story and overall plot. Having Naruto who in chapter 1 was more or less completely alone end up with a family of his own with someone who truly loves him and gives him everything he never had growing up as a ending was masterful writing.

My 613 Jordayla Analysis and Commentary pt 3

Finally we had the parent theme come up again in Olivia’s MOH speech. It was so sweet and I loved how Olivia said special words to them using Billy and Monica. Something I picked up with the speech is how Olivia told Jordan he is now Layla’s husband after wishing it since middle school and her assuring him that he would be awesome at it. Again, I am seeing that ‘Jordan as a husband storyline’ flashing again.

Now to the big one. Spencer getting drafted at the wedding. I was initially of the opinion that there was no need for this. I felt both moments should have been separate moments but I had to put my feelings aside and see things objectively. Here is what I think. I feel having Spencer get drafted at the wedding and Jordayla sharing that moment of joy with him is poetic as to the love Jordan and Layla have.

Jordan and Layla have pure hearts and despite what both characters have been through, one thing that has been constant is their hearts and how they love others. We saw this with Jordan coming through for Simone, Jordan worrying about his success affecting Spencer’s numbers and also Jordan being there for Olivia as she struggled with grieving their dad. 

With Layla, she has come through for Coop and Patience with their music, she helped Spencer with Dr Spears’ details when he was coming off the trauma of the shooting and she has been there for Olivia, reminding her of how good her instincts are during the NIL article drama and more recently, she helped her find her way with marketing her children’s book. 

Then with each other, they love each other selflessly. Layla went through the motions of grief with Jordan in season 5. Bear in mind that they were secretly dating and had been dating for only a few months. Layla shared that burden of grief with him and even shared her most valued possession, the memory of her mother through song. 

This season, Jordan was Layla’s strength as she navigated the difficulty with her mental health. 608 showed just how selfless their love for each other is. Because of his pure heart, Jordan was willing to let the girl he had dreamed of since middle school go, if it meant she would be whole again. Because of her pure heart, Layla refused to let go and instead chose to face her demons for Jordan. She was even willing to do anything (like throw a surprise wedding) to fight not to lose Jordan. Look at how she took a huge risk with her medication because she felt she wasn’t showing up as she should for Jordan. It wasn’t a wise decision, but it goes to show the sacrifices Layla was willing to make for Jordan. 

These are moments I can remember off the top of my head but you get what I mean. 

Having Spencer get good news and share that moment with family at their wedding speaks to the love, the selfless love that embodies Jordayla. Like I said, they are written as the light on the show. In the darkness of losing Billy, their ‘coming out dinner’ made everyone laugh and joke around. Olivia smiled for the first time in her grief when she found out about them. So they are a light and having their wedding reception be the place where Spencer moves from the darkness and disappointment of not being picked for the draft to eventually being drafted is so poetic to me. 

I know most fans found that arc annoying and disappointing but I choose to see light and joy in the little things. However, I completely understand if you are upset by the writing decisions. I feel in a way it is valid. 

The time jump surprised me but I got to see married Jordayla. Y’all they look so married. It doesn’t feel forced at all. I was telling my Jordayla council on Twitter that you know how you see wedding bands on some men and it feels off, this is not Jordan Baker at all. That wedding band suits him so well and Jordayla actually looked like they have been married for a while. Like they actually feel different from 601 Jordayla that was engaged. Looking to see what the last two episodes have for Jordayla. As always I would be yapping and these last two episodes may change a lot of the opinions I have shared here today or simply make me double down.

Time will tell.

We made it Jordayla nation!! We stuck with our ship and here we are with a married Jordayla! I see this as a huge win that should be appreciated and enjoyed. Our ship is about light and joy and I think we should all tap into that.

Oh, I couldn't agree more with the PTSD. And the hyoer vigilance. I've been re-watching episodes 63 and 64, and there's something specific about the way he goes from having his "full" attention on Jellal to turning around to face Erza in a slip second when she moves twice.

And the concepts of love? I'm pretty sure he thought it was *normal*, the way Brain treated him. To be expected, love is conditional, your self worth tied to being able to earn it and vice versa. The kind of acceptance that, indeed, would take a long time to undo. As you said with the knives, the learnt sadism and giving back what was done to him... I don't even know if I'm repeating myself, I'm just amazed by the fact that not only do I agree with you, but your points make so much sense. At no point do I feel like saying "I respect that, but I have a fundamentally different view of this character". It makes me rethink his fight with Richard, too. Did he create a mirage of himself being defeated to lower Richard's guard and deliver a single hit instead of having to hurt him at length (which he's eager to do to Eve, Ren although he gets bored there, Jellal and Erza) or is it torture? Showing him that he's hurting his adoptive younger brother, in parallel to Richard's desire to find Wally? Although Richard was willing to fight, so...? Is it just trying to win the fight no matter what? He gets panicked in the middle of it, or shows an illusion of it, so is it really worth it, when it affects him like that? Should that part of the thrash can and call it a day, despite feeling like it's an important moment?

I had never thought about him wanting to hurt whoever he fancies. It's... Fitting. I had always approached it from the view that he half wants and half expects to be hurt, because that's likely the only love he's known, the only "love" he had for, give or take, eight years. Sure, it wasn't from a lover, but somehow that makes it worse. Considering we have no clue of his life prior to the tower and he never brings it further than to to say his name (which... Might not even be his birth name), I don't think he even remembers that.

I had watched the original anime while trying to get a better grip on Midnight's character. Sometimes an anime is really good at bringing out the spark in a manga that was missing in still black and white, and the Fairy Tail anime's first half was one of them. It's a shame they switched studios, because the 2014 anime just didn't hit the same. I can't think of a similar moment in the second anime like Midnight's appearance.

Like, he's genuinely chilling. His bored drawl, the unconcerned way he holds himself, the completely calm way he talks about how he wants to torment and hurt people. He's small and skinny and even looks pretty emo, so he shouldn't be that threatening, but the camera angles they use, the sound cues they use, it all works. They expand on his fight with Jellal, which in the manga is entirely offscreen. Watching him wordlessly and disaffectly fail to react to anything Jellal throws at him before smiling and putting him down with Spiral Pain? Cold as fuck. I tried to capture that.

Oh, I think maybe, but not quite the way he loves Widow. In my interpretation of Dottore, he has had feelings for other people, but either they were never reciprocated, or they did not love him in the same way he loved them if that makes sense?

Younger Zandik would have wanted the attention and validation a lover would give him, but I don't think it would have been enough for him. I don't think he knows how to be loved, so displays of affection would have been too foreign a concept for him to understand and/or appreciate, or it just wouldn't have been enough. Imagine how frustrating it is to desperately want any and every ounce of attention someone can give you, but you've never actually been loved in your life so you have no idea how to react to it, so you flip between it being too much and never enough.

As time goes on, as he "matures" and his reputation and infamy as harbinger and mad scientist become more known, then it reaches a point where people don't actually love him. Sure, they may think he's handsome, but that's his only redeeming quality. He's insufferable, he's cruel, but he's also immensely powerful. They don't really want him, Zandik, they at most want in on his status as second rank harbinger. I mean, would you want to square up with someone who managed to seduce Il Dottore? Maybe, but you'd at least think twice because a) what did the Doctor see in you to deem you worthy, and b) what the hell is wrong with you that you actually went through with it?

The big thing that made Widow different was she had a genuine interest in him. Just like how he was willing to go to the extremes for his research, she was not deterred by the threat of expulsion from the Akademiya. She didn't even know he was a harbinger either, she just wanted to learn more about him for the sake of learning more. Also, her ambitions to be an embalmer was oddly refreshing and fascinating to him considering she was a rather sweet thing. You'd think a young woman like her would want to work with the living, and not the dead. He needed to know what drove this woman to him, and that sort of molded into an obsession with her, which then molded into whatever the chemicals in his brain associates with "love."

I haven't actually watched the show, but the scene from Bojack Horseman where he tells Princess Caroline "I do love you, by the way. I mean as... as much as I'm capable of loving anyone. Which is never enough." That's sort of how I imagine him and Widow. That and the break up scene with Bojack and Wanda.

(Maybe I should actually sit down and watch that show instead of watching whatever clips happen to come into my youtube feed.)

Legacy should be more than legacy.

A wish list for Legacy that embraces as best as it can the warring tribes of Star Trek and could avoid another "The Last Jedi" scenario.

People who have read my Season Three commentary will know that I am far from the last person to cry "memberberry" (did I spell that right? I actually really dislike the concept.)

In processing the broad swath of fandom reaction, it breaks down into a few categories worth thinking about:

People who enjoyed it and see no flaws.

People who enjoyed it in spite of the flaws.

People who disliked it for narrative reasons.

People who disliked it for "meta" reasons.

I would say I'm firmly in that second category. Take for instance Jack Crusher. There's a lot of commentary about him that strikes me as bizarre. A backlash to the implication that there is a portion of the fanbase that is uncritically fawning over him. A segment of the fanbase that I have yet to encounter, although I will admit to not having sought it out.

My initial reaction was to dislike the character for both narrative and meta reasons. Narratively I thought his very existence ran counter to a lot of preconceived notions I had about what the "definitive" version of Jean luc and Beverly are, whether or not they'd even conceive, and if they did how they would handle it. Frankly I felt their relationship had largely been put to bed late in TNG's run and in a very mature way. Not everyone who loves each other needs to be in a relationship or actively bonking. This is a lesson I myself have learned in the fallout of relationships after coming to terms with certain incompatibilities while retaining affection for the whole person in spite of the illogic of maintaining a conventional romantic relationship.

The meta reasons are that he's rather clearly "replaced" in some sense both Elnor and Wesley, although they are both alluded to in the dialogue. I do believe its reasonable to assume we were meant to insert either Elnor or Picard's ex post facto reconciliation with his memories of his father into what is left unstated when he says he would never have been his father. Beverly also references losing both a husband and a son to the stars that Picard was infatuated with.

However, I held my own feelings about this loosely enough that the character was able to prove to me that he "deserved" to exist. That he could be an interesting part of the story.

I was not any less disappointed by the absence of Elnor and Wesley not showing up at all seems completely daft, but the narrative made a satisfying argument to me that Jack could have a place in the story if I was willing to give a little.

As I told the Anon who messaged a while back to say I was being snotty to people who prefer more plausible and immersive worldbuilding and less of the camp and contrivances (and presumably the "memberberries" although I would not want to put words in your mouth if you're still following):

Star Trek belongs to all of us. I believe in a big tent fandom.

Which is why I think that if there is to be a "Star Trek Legacy" it needs to not so much move on from fan service, but to be holistic in its fan service. A particular kind of TNG fan got love bombed by Season Three. I find no sin in this but this also isn't the ideal format for an entire series.

I have repeatedly made note that I think the entire Enterprise-G stuff is not ideal. I don't think the starship service pathway makes sense for Seven, Raffi, or Jack. I think it does a disservice to their character arcs and the broader argument that Star Trek Picard has been making that Starfleet is not the sole source of moral authority in the universe. There are other valid ways to do much needed and good work in the universe. The Fenris Rangers being one example. Jack and Beverly acting as a sort of "Doctors Without Borders" in space being another.

I also don't believe in petty retcons and I do recognize the symbolism of re-christening a heroic ship that is already filled with heroic people "Enterprise" in order to say that what makes Starfleet great isn't its scientific acumen, how many cool gadgets can be stuffed into a frame, or the number and potency of its phasers and photon torpedo launchers, but rather the courage, grace, and openness of its people.

It is in someways symbolic that a path that began with the Federation putting itself between the Romulans and the Synths has now hit another mile marker: with a crew of people who are willing to bend rules in the name of radical decency we are returning to a more "bottom up" Starfleet.

That we arguably already have this in the form of Strange New Worlds is beside the point.

So duly noting that I would have preferred something more like Star Trek La Sirena with our more anarchist characters doing their own thing in their way plugging the gaps that Starfleet can't plug for itself for all of the reasons that Shaw continuously argued, I'm going to lay out a vision of how Star Trek Legacy could be awesome.

Now do DS9

I've long been captivated by the idea of a show that is inspired by the Global War on Terror and the occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan, but not in the same way that Enterprise or Picard were. Originally my thought was that the post Dominion War Cardassian space would be a good setting for this. Show the reconstruction and the painful work of trying to knit Cardassian society back together and trying to create something that is both pluralistic and functional.

Now I am skeptical of the potential of the real world analogs of post war Cardassia (Iraq and Afghanistan) to have been successful regime changes even under conditions of maximum cultural sensitivity on the part of the occupier and the prudent allocation of resources rather than wildly throwing money at problems in ever growing boondoggles that are utterly useless to the people on the ground but sound logical to the vulture capitalists and well intentioned but largely clueless political scientists infesting the State Department and the staffs of politicians. Consequently I would be very wary of normalizing the idea of military occupations.

However, Starfleet is a good vehicle for exploring the ins and outs of trying to rebuild a society shattered by war. Something that is even more relevant than it was when DS9 first started dabbling in this with its stories centering Bajor.

Now if we're to keep going under the assumption that its been more than two decades since the Dominion War, we could update this to the Romulan resettlement zone. Dropping this storyline like a hot potato after season one is one of my great frustrations with Picard because I desperately wanted to see explicit confirmation that the Federation had indeed been thoroughly shamed into rediscovering its wide eyed, do gooder spirit.

With Discovery and Picard ending, there is a space for a serialized narrative show. While I am very wary of this based on how not great the meta-narratives of Discovery and Picard have been and the addiction to epic stakes, I think it could be done and done well.

So an opportunity presents itself to tie up other loose ends.

Nazi Hunting and Church Committees

Give me more Raffi/Worf buddy cop action.

Give me accountability for Section 31.

Give me justice for the Romulans.

Justice for Elnor!

Put Seven, Raffi, and Jack's skillsets and personality to their best use.

How?

Bring back Sloan.

Whoa whoa whoa. Don't click away. Hear me out. You've read this far.

Project Phoenix? That wasn't for Kirk.

Here's the setup. Section 31 was lobotomized by Sloan's death. By its very nature Section 31 was set up in a set of cells with no one but Sloan knowing the full picture. Independent cells were able to keep going after but after the agency's existence became public knowledge, their existence became ever more precarious. Their list of allies in Starfleet growing ever thinner as their collaborators were exposed or burned Section 31 to prevent exposure. They needed Sloan or at least the contents of his head to find more safe houses, caches, and closets with skeletons in them.

Laris catches wind of Sloan via old contacts. This time its Jean luc who is off world on business and doesn't need to know the details.

With the assistance of Worf and Raffi, a team is assembled to pursue Sloan. The Enterprise-G as it happens, is already there on an errand of mercy making good on almost two decades of back owed aide.

Already aboard? At least two individuals with relevant knowledge and an axe to grind:

Elim Garak, plain, simple reconstruction and conflict resolution specialist.

Julian Bashir, frontier medicine and medical infrastructure reconstruction expert.

If the performers are down for it, I'm okay with canonizing them as queer representation. I'm not necessarily a big shipper in general, but I'm not anti-ship.

Elnor's affinity with the Sisters of the Absolute Candor would also feature in as the Sisters are about as likely to love Section 31 as they do the Tal'Shiar.

Jack is...slightly expendable. Not because he's a bad character but because I'm scratching my head trying to figure out how he's not redundant skills wise. His knowledge of the less savory parts of the galaxy would be a bit fresher than Seven and unlike her, he's not the Captain. Overall I think that he should hew closer to his mother in this role because I think the Jack that was doing orderly work was more interesting than action hero Jack. Him being a legitimate counselor would also be an interesting twist as we have yet to see a male mental health worker in Trek IIRC.
