Hey there. I recently finished reading 'for the want of a jewel', an original work written by @formlessvoidbeast and I absolutely loved it!

Just like I loved the 'Accidental Warlord' series, a AU based on the Witcher, by @inexplicifics.

Those fics are both an absolute delight to read and they have a few things in common which kind of caused a want of more in me.

Please help me find fics/original work/books/shows... with these tropes (they do not have all the things I mentioned but it would be nice to have them meet several):

Character gets traded for peace to a most likely hostile party (warlord, king, pirates, bandits, just something they expect to be bad or different)

The trade-in-character expects to be hurt/killed/abused/hated/...

The second party they are given too is not aware of the circumstances of the way the trade-in-character had to leave their home

The second party which the trade-in-character expects to be hostile turns out to be not so bad

The trade-in-character finds true home with the party they were given to

The trade-in-character finds true friends/family not made by blood/love/their way of life/... with the people they were given too

Shenanigans (optional as the rest of them, but they would be greatly appreciated)

So, let’s look at what you’re paying now in 2024 compared to 2005. Adjusted for inflation, $1.22 per dozen in 2005 is equivalent to $2.64 in 2024. At $3.37 per dozen now, that breaks down to $0.06 more per egg now compared to then. sitting here thinking about the potential meaning behind that moment with the valyrian sphinx, where illyrio and tyrion note that she's a dragon queen, but the empty spot beside her suggests that her king was taken away . . . dragged off as a prize to vaes dothrak. and like . . . the fact that adw.d itself leads so many suitors to dany?? literally from across the world, these guys are seeking her hand in marriage, and even beyond that, characters are just looking for ways to get to her to aid her/seek aid! there's something here! anyways! in terms of the marriage candidates, i think it could symbolize the deaths of those who wish to marry her via obligation/expectation. quentyn comes to satisfy the terms of a contract, and in an effort to win dany's hand by showing her that he's dragon-enough, he gets cooked. victarion isn't going to survive dany. young griff certainly won't survive her. and hizdahr? he's going to be brought to justice, then eaten by drogon.

Ghosts are gods. Like Clockwork is god of Time, Undergrowth is god of plants, Nocturn is god of sleep, Skulker is god of hunting, Ember is goddess of music, etc.

Gods are made in different ways. Some gods were always there like the Ancients, some were born like Frostbite and Pandora, some gradually rose to god-hood after a long period of gaining belief like Ember and Spectra, and some were human before being chosen by the Infinite Realms to become a god like Danny and Vlad.

i've been thinking about agents of fen'harel since yesterday, and out of the characters i already write here, harlan would be the easiest to commit to this cause. he doesn't have any noble aims, but can be radicalized further because his highest value in life is freedom, and in his mind serving and being loyal to someone is freedom too, as long as it's his choice. what that means? well, he would just as much join the inquisition, join briala, join solas, if the person who tried to bring him in offered him a particular thing: consistent basic decency and, i don't know, not siding with slavers and abusers. he's less of a cause person, and more of a person person, you see? hell, he'd commit to being a proper crow again if zevran himself, who's associated with freedom in his mind, showed up and told him he wants to rebuild the crows, but change them. it's not like harlan has moral qualms about his line work, he just hates the organization and those the perpetuate the cycle.
