i don't see the point of season two being to set up season three. i genuinely think that the writing is good and the choices made in this season add to the overall story while also being something that can stand on it's own.

season two, to me, is about three things: the collective, consequences and human nature. outside of red light green light, every game we've seen has been a team game. every game is designed for multiple people to win. the voting is a group effort. people have to come together to vote to stay or leave. it forces everyone to be involved and encourages them to think of the person next to them. this is where the focus of the collective comes in. when spend so much time with the games and the team's playing because the season is about their grouped success. its also an incredible tool to use to show the split in emotion. how people who were cheering to play one more game in hopes that more people die, turned around and hoped for their success. and to speak metaphorically, its about the power of the people fighting against a system. the great evil system of capitalism.

the voting system and the illusion of choice fall into the idea of human nature. inho talked about this in the limo before taking gihun to the games. he said that the players chose this, that they will always choose this. they will always chose to play the game because it is human nature to gamble, to be selfish. the season is about looking at the nature of humanity and what people will do when you put them in an impossible situation. gihun thinks they would chose to save themselves and everyone, inho thinks they will chose to serve themselves and forget everyone. this is why inho joined the games. to prove a point to gihun that look this is humanity, this is how they are and how they always will be, selfish.

then this brings me to gihun and his revenge trip . one of his biggest character traits is that he is always willing to give people the benefit of the doubt, to trust that their intentions are pure. and as we've seen that is almost never the case. twice now he's been fooled by someone wearing a 001 number, and it doesn't dawn on him because he naturally looks for the good in people. on top of this, gihun believes he's doing the right thing. by trying to stop the games for good, he believes that people’s lives will be better, that they will no longer be under the thumb of capitalism and greed, that they will be free. but he is also out for retribution. not only does he want to stop the games, he wants revenge, he wants those in charge to pay. to do this he needs everyone. he needs the collective, and he needs to trust in their nature to be one of wanting to do the right thing. again, to get metaphorical, to take down a system like capitalism, to fight against the rich to live to exploit the poor, then the poor need to band together and rise up. or at least that is what gihun thinks.

that's why we focus so much on the ensemble of characters in the story, all of whom are different, endearing, frustrating, and so on, and yet we care. we care about all of them getting out, we care about their collective survival because the season has pulled all of us in to care. we're a part of the revolution because we as the audience have been roped into gihun plans too!!

that's why i think consequences are a big idea too. we know that the consequences of squid game are the deaths of thousands of people. we know that inho thinks this is a small and necessary sacrifice to make. we know that gihun disagrees. until he doesn't. inho asks him before the rebellion if he's willing to sacrifice the few for the many and gihun says yes. he contradicts his own ideals in the moment and so inho must show him the consequences of that. this is to speak to the consequences of trying to fight against oppression, almost to say that no the system will always win. it will tighten its security, crush you under its booy and always come out on top.

i think 011's story is really the only part that explicitly feels like a set up for season three, or like a sleeper agent kind of thing, where she'll pop up exactly when she's needed.

with inho and the boat crew, i actually really love what they did there because the whole story line was a waste of time. you're supposed to feel like it was a waste of time because it literally is. the captain is wasting their time sailing them in circles, never coming to the island. they go around and around and so the plot itself goes around and around, and by the end, even the reveal of the captain reads as flat and expected, and i love that. i think it's really interesting story telling, and granted i might be reading into it but that is the beauty of media and interpretation. i like to think that the writer did that on purpose so we feel exactly what the boat crew are feeling, that all of this is a waste of time.

i also understand that the season isn't flawless, that there might be some things that could've been done better but i honestly believe that season two of squid game is just brilliant.

twitter is actually so frustrating because i think people are deliberately misunderstanding what squid game is and what it's supposed to be doing. of course the pacing, the tone and everything about season two isn't going to be the same as season one. because things are different now. gihun is suffering from incredible trauma, junho was shot by his brother and is desperate to find him, it's been three years since gihun's games, of course things are different! it's not going to just be games and death, it needs to be a story, a JOURNEY, like we need things to develop, grow and be different! like is that difficult to understand?

nothing about season two is boring because all of it is deliberate. yes, all that stuff in the first two eps before the games is deliberate! the attention given to the voting system is important and deliberate! junho and his suspicious captain and his band of military men on the boat is important and deliberate! because as we've seen with season one, the writing is incredible and i don't see that changing for this season and the final season. if you just wanted dramatic games, death and all that then idk go watch season one again. or maybe ask yourself why you wanted just deaths and games and all that because its giving vips, its giving a refusal to understand the bright, glaring metaphor

As mean as it is, I must stress, Solas threw spirits at Elgar'nan's front door because he had "his people" going up the back way to Steal The Lyrium Dagger.

They say "relic" in the scene itself, but going off the codices, the regret murals, the order of events, and what Solas himself says about what that "relic" can do, he means the Lyrium Dagger.

That was him risking the only shot they had to put an end to the Evanuris for good.

Like. Solas has personally tussled with Elgar'nan before. We've seen what state he was in afterwards. We've heard him tell Rook if Elgar'nan takes the field to Run unless that fucking Archdemon is dead.

Man's not afraid of "making the sacrifices required of leadership." Sometimes those sacrifices are his own life, and other times they are, unfortunately, his allies. But, like. That's the tragedy you get when you're the leader. You put everything on yourself. You can't really trust anyone else to do the job for you because the Entire World is at stake. YOU have to do the ritual to stop the Evanuris because YOU made the dagger, its enchantments, and are well-knowledgable about the blight. YOU can't be the one risking their life right now, so who do you choose? Who rides to the Black Gates to distract the Eye of Sauron while Frodo and Sam hike up Mount Doom?

The only thing that sits wrong with me is he didn't tell them it was a suicide mission.

But like. Would he have believed anyone would have willingly made that sacrifice? Would they have fought as hard as they did if they knew they had no shot of success? Would them knowing have tipped Elgar'nan off to the other plan because of how he can just get into minds?

Situation's fucked, but no more than dooming a city because you can't save both.

seungkwan; firts card pulled: justice flew from the dec. he's mature. he does get jealous and swayed away, wants to leave, and even gets angry but knows that's not a healthy behavior, so he uses rationality to work on an equilibrium. probably the person who cause it is oblivious about it, tho. he works it out by himself.

vernon; first card pulled: death. he rarely feels it, and when he does, he pushes it away. he doesn't think it's a healthy or useful feeling to have, so he just ignores it. but that does not always help him, it affects his inside and could cause inner turmoil when pushing it aside.

chan; first card pulled: the moon upside down. gets emotional too, he's also very affected, but he gets more sad than anything else. i can also sense a bit of insecurity. but he doesn't really act on it, same as vernon that can be bad for him, the difference here is that chan understands and acknowledges the feeling.

"I accept that there will be those who I cannot save."

When I first read those words on a wiki page for the Stormlight Archives, I assumed they would pertain to learning that it's okay to kill your enemies. That Kaladin would be taught a lesson on how some people will choose to place themselves outside of your ability to protect them, and that that is not your fault. People like Moash, who continue to make themselves a threat to the other people he had sworn to protect.

And I was fine with that understanding, at least at first. It's a natural counterpoint to Lirin's perspective that "you cannot save lives by taking lives." I was interested to see how Sanderson explored it, as this is a concept that I have struggled to accept for myself. I even thought it could be an interesting foil to the Third Ideal: "I will protect those I hate, so long as it is right." But then I read Oathbringer. I saw the Battle of Kholinar, where Kaladin is broken by the realization that the people on either side are just that: people. Here there are two different groups who he feels honor-bound to protect, and they're killing each other.

It is no wonder that these events broke him, driving him to where he is by the start of Rhythm of War. When Kaladin failed to swear the Fourth Ideal in Shadesmar, during the Battle of Thaylen Field, I was excited to see how he would grapple with that reality. Sanderson did not disappoint, tho he delivered in a way that I did not expect.

Kaladin, under orders, steps back from the front lines. He puts down the spear. He returns to his training as a surgeon. He invents the concept of group therapy to help others who were suffering from battle shock, like him. He learns that there is more than one way to protect people. And he seems to be making progress, if slowly, to recovering from his failures in Oathbringer.

This all comes crashing down when Raboniel and her forces invade Urithiru. Kaladin is left feeling powerless. He has to hide to survive. He repeatedly fails to protect the Sibling against the assaults of the Fused. All he can manage is to keep Teft from being taken captive, nursing him through his coma. Now, more than ever, he feels that he is a failure at doing the one thing he has sworn to do: protect those who cannot protect themselves.

Then Wit comes along, with the story of the Dog who Wished to Become a Dragon. He shows Kaladin that, even if your goal is fundamentally unachievable, good results can still come from your efforts. That it is the Journey that matters, even if you never reach your Destination.

Kaladin is bolstered. He marches out to face the Fused one final time: a last stand. Do or die. And he is winning. In spite of it all, he finds that he can still protect others. But its a lie. He knows its a lie. In his own thoughts, he is pretending to be Kaladin Stormblessed, one last time.

When Vyre arrives and slaughters Teft, what little scaffolding Kaladin had left is kicked out from under him. Teft, the one person he felt he could genuinely help during the occupation, lying on the ground with his eyes burned out.

This is why I believe the way in which Kaladin achieves the Fourth Ideal is so much more impactful than I ever imagined it would be. Because it's not some simple lesson about how "you need to learn that its okay to kill/not save people if they aren't on your side." It's not a question of morality or honor at all, really.

It's an exercise in futility.

What has broken Kaladin is the fact that, no matter how hard he tries to protect people, they always end up dying. He feels that his efforts were wasted. Yet he forgets the countless moments allowed to those he saved, even if he only delayed their death. He forgets Dabbid, who would have bled out on the Shattered Plains were it not for Kaladin's intervention. He forgets the battle-shock patients who saw the sun again because of his efforts.

Mitsukou Analysis, Picture Perfect Part 1

Hello! I know, it’s been a while since I did one of these. Honestly though, I was kind of putting this analysis off, Picture Perfect is just such a beautiful arc, and I’m scared I won’t do Aidairo’s characters justice. Plus, it’s hella long.

I’m sure you’ve noticed the “Part 1” in the title. This is because I wrote this on a bus, and had very, very little time to make this analysis. I promise, I’m making Part 2 as fast as I can.

Now that that’s been settled, let’s do this!

Kou, do you realize how gay that sounds? Like, that’s not what straight guys say to their best friends. Jokes aside, we can see hints of Kou’s… jealousy? I don’t know what to call it. We can see Kou is not happy with idea Tsukasa can make Mitsuba’s wish come true.

Why? Because, say it with me people, Kou needs to be needed. Seriously, this aspect of his character is the reason of half of the things he does and says to Mitsuba.

So. We’re to the point Nene and Kou know this world is fake, and are attempting to get information out of Mitsuba so they have a better sense of their surroundings.

Why does Mitsuba listen to Nene and not Kou?

Actually, this puzzles me too. Seriously, anybody have ideas? Maybe it’s because Mitsuba saw everything that happened in the school, so he saw Nene’s shortened lifespan?

On that note, time to move onto one of the most critical scenes in MitsuKou’s arc.

Mitsuba says it himself. He saw everything. Does that mean he saw Kou crying over his “death”? I imagine it would have had a huge impact on his psychology. I’ll come back to this in Part 2.

In these panels, Mitsuba is referring to how he wants people to react when he calls out to them. He wants friends. It must be horrible, being a ghost, bound to the school, never able to communicate or make an impact.

Maybe Kou is special to him, and maybe it’s because of this. So, at this point in time, Mitsukou is not looking good. Like in a, “is this a healthy relationship?” aspect. Their entire relationship is built upon a, truthfully, unhealthy codependency.

Mitsuba needs to be seen, and Kou needs somebody to rely on him.

This interaction poses an interesting question. If Kou had to pick between Mitsuba (No. 3) or Original Mitsuba, which would he choose? I don’t think even Kou himself knows, look at his expression.

However, the look on his face could be described as regretful, so perhaps, the answer to this question would be Original Mitsuba. I think Mitsuba notices Kou’s appearance, and came to the same conclusion.

See, even Kou is doubting himself. My heart goes out to Mitsuba. Imagine meeting the only person who you regularly talk to, the closest thing to a friend you have. (I don’t think the Broadcasting Club counts.)

And you realize the only reason he likes you is because you have the same face and personality of a guy he liked. (No, not like liked.)

He is literally merely seeing the ghost of a friend in you.

A rant/defending Cho Sangwoo actions

I love him so much he's such a complex and good written character, and this is basically just me ranting about my babygirl

So the first thing that i want to clarify is the reason why he joined the squid game, many people just immediately assumed that he wanted the money all for himself which is wrong. Personally, i think he DID joined the game for the money (obviously everyone did) BUT he also wanted to win the money for his mother. He wanted to show his mom that he is actually successful and to make her proud (obviously his mom is already so proud of him, but he doesn't know that). Also he literally was being hunted down by the police because he embezzled money from his client, so he definitely needed the money to pay all of that money off and bail himself out of jail. Obviously by the end, he kind of got money hungry, I won't deny that. I also want to remind you guys that the squid game is literally a last resort for EVERYONE in the game.

I feel like this is one of the big reason why people hate him which is, he killed Sae-Byeok and Ali. Even though I'm a Sang-Woo fan, i still BAWLED my eyes out when Ali or Sae-Byeok died, but i feel like it is understandable why he killed them both. Now let's start with Ali first. He doesn't even know Ali THAT long, he had only known him for LESS THAN A WEEK. So the fact that he betrayed Ali and took all of the marbles, i wouldn't really say that it's "selfish". Let's try to put on Sang-Woo's perspective for a second, "you're in a Life or Death game in which if you LOSE, you're never gonna see the light of day ever again, and you're playing against this guy, you've known him for 5 days (?) and he is WINNING, this is NOT good, obviously. If he does win, you'll die. You start to think of your mother back at home, who would take care of her? She's old and she's can't take care of herself, you're her only family left. You can't just leave her alone right? You're in this game because you wanted to help her, make her live a comfortable life without worries about money or food on the table. You CAN'T just die right now. No. You NEED to live. You need to WIN. For her. For your mother. And lucky for you, your opponent seems to be gullible, maybe you can win this afterall. I mean yeah, you're gonna indirectly kill him but... he's just a nobody. You've known for like what.. 5 days? He's not as important as your mom, right? Sure, he probably has a family but that's his own problem. Everyone in this game have a family, everyone wanted to survive. So, you betrayed him, sure u do feel guilty, but hey, it's the battle of the strongest right?" So basically, would you choose a random stranger you just met or your family? If you really think about it, Sangwoo was being very reasonable here.

Okay so now about Sae-Byeok's death, okay so let's be realistic for a second. Sae-Byeok's would've died from blood loss either way if Sang-woo didn't kill her. A glass shard literally stabbed her in the stomach and there was no way in hell the guards or the frontman were gonna treat her for it. There was only two options for her, dying slowly from blood loss or getting killed by Sang-woo, which was much more faster. Sang-Woo's reasons for killing her was that if Sae-Byeok and Gi-Hun voted to leave, they'll be the majority it need to stop the games. So I could definitely see where he's coming from, i mean imagine you literally just saw HUNDREDS of people died, you already killed 2 people, you ALMOST died and you haven't showered or eaten a proper meal for almost a week, ALL FOR THE 45.6 BILLION WON BUT THEN TURNS OUT YOU'RE PROBABLY JUST DID ALL OF THAT FOR NOTHING BECAUSE YOU'RE GONNA GET OUTVOTED BY TWO PEOPLE. So basically you just got a whole lot of trauma, YOU'RE STILL BROKE, the police are coming to get you and you can't see your mom because you're ashamed of yourself. Like damn, i would've done the same ngl....

"He didn't tell Gi-Hun what the second game was even though he knew!" Okay so yes i do agree with this, i think he should've told Gi-Hun about it! But if you hate Sang-woo for that reason then Gi-Hun deserve to be hated too, he did the exact same thing with the old man in the marble game. He lied and let the old man lose so he could have the advantage and win. THIS JUST SHOWS THAT THE GAME WAS DESIGNED TO BRING THE WORST OUT OF PEOPLE!!!! EVEN GI-HUN, OUR MAIN CHARACTER, LIED AND INDIRECTLY KILLED SOMEONE! (obviously the old guy didn't die but Gi-Hun didn't know that).

"Sang-woo didn't care about his mother." First of all, NO????? WHERE THE HELL DID U GET THAT FROM??? Like i said from the beginning, his mom was ONE OF THE REASON why he joined the games anyway! He didn't want to go back home and be a disappoinment to EVERYONE. Literally if you guys remember, his mom and Gi-Hun wasn't the only one who keeps bragging about him attending SNU, EVEYONE IN THE TOWN LITERALLY CALLED HIM "The genius of Ssamun-Dong". Further-more, his LAST WORDS were literally "Gi-Hun.... take care... of my mom.." WHAT DO YOU MEAN HE NEVER CARED FOR HER????

"He didn't feel guilty or remorseful after what he'd done." Okay so... did u watched the show with your eyes closed? Look i know he killed some people but he's still HUMAN. He FLINCHED when he heard the gunshot that shot Ali. His mental state was getting worse day by day. Right before he stab himself in the neck, he said "Hyung.... I'm sorry.." and I think he said that not only because he was apologizing for killing Sae-Byeok but also to just say sorry for every single thing he had done up until that moment. The guilt was obviously eating him alive.

The reason why he killed himself. He was already suicidal from the beginning, in episode 2, he tried to kill himself. He thinks living is just not worth it anymore, he has lost hope in humanity. Squid game was his last resort to try and fix his mistake. Maybe he can finally be the son his mother was proud of. The only reason why he killed himself at the end was because he trusted Gi-Hun. He trusted him to take care of his mom. He knew he couldn't live his life with the guilt of killing his childhood bestfriend. He knew Gi-Hun is a nice guy and would help his mother. He knew Gi-Hun would use the money to do something good. Like i said, he trusted him. At that point, Sang-woo thinks this was the best case scenario, him dying and Gi-Hun living. So in that moment, he chose to kill himself.

Just started A Crown of Swords and I'm so Cauthorpilled that I'm like "well if Mat were here he'd be doing a much better job of taking care of Rand than Perrin and Min are." In the show I do hope they involve him in Dumai's Wells just so we can see him angst over Rand's sanity and grief. I want my boys to suffer and I want them to suffer TOGETHER dammit!!

i agree!!! on all counts! perrin hasn't seen rand since tear and even then barely talked to him, so his knowledge of rand and ability to understand rand is woefully out of date. min never knew rand prior to The Plot taking over his life (despite her and his claims that she reminds him of the shepherd he used to be. girl you knew that shepherd for about 2 hours.) but you know who has known rand his whole life AND has been right by his side for a lot of time recently including throughout his important formative TSR-TFOH arc, and is thus perfectly positioned to balance understand of both old and new rand? that's right, mat! i would argue that at this point in the series, nobody knows rand better than mat does or has spent more time with him than mat has.

mat is also demonstrably good at soothing and anchoring rand when he's upset. a) tending to him when he had channeling sickness and short-circuiting his identity crisis with "you're rand al'thor, that's who you are, with the ugliest face and thickest head in the two rivers", affectionate insult paired with genuine affirmation which comforts rand enough to send him into a peaceful sleep despite his feverish state. b) when rand is feeling some type of way after hearing the story of his birth parents, everybody else leaves him to be alone but mat stays and sits quietly with him all day, correctly reading that rand doesn't want to be badgered with conversation but also doesn't want to be left all alone. c) rand voluntarily chooses to teleport into mat's room in the middle of the night to vent at him when he's all up in his own head, thus showing us that mat is rand's chosen confidant, the person he instinctively wants to talk to when he's having a bad time, even here in LOC when he's pulling away from and growing mistrusting of just about everybody he loves. not mat. he still wants to talk to mat about all his plans and he even asks him something about "how do you know when you're in love?" which i think is the closest rand ever comes to confiding in an outside party about his romantic chaos lmao

in conclusion, mat is too good at helping rand and that's why he was narratively banished from his side just at the moment in the story when it became time for rand to downward spiral and feel isolated!

and yes, i've been saying since i read LOC how much i want dumai's wells to be a big full-cast event in the show! i'm thinking that after s2 finale had mat cradling rand at falme, s3 finale should have rand cradling mat in rhuidean, and then s4 finale should have mat cradling rand at dumai's wells, and we can continue alternating throughout the show's run.

hello, i hope you're having a good day. for short, i just need advice. i feel in love with someone, and she sometimes act so mommy with me, and i love it. she calls me adorable and precious, and it instantly puts me in subspace. but she is distant. i chose to distant myself from her before because of some personal problems. she is traumatized with relationships and seems that me showing interest makes her distant again. we are not dating, but she knows how much i love her and somewhat i feel very used. she's the second person i loved this much, and it's been months, i didn't stopped loving her. it just hurts me that she's avoidant and i end up alone craving her again. i don't go after her, but i wish i could be hers and love her without any barriers. she said she's broken and i loved her this way, but i think i scare her. i'm so confused and sad. i wish she wasn't that hurt. not for me, but for herself too. i know i have a lot to grow up... it's okay if you haven't how to answer this. i kinda just vented. jzjsjzsjzs

Hey sweetheart, first of all, take a deep breath. I can feel through your text how much you’re holding onto this, how much love you have inside you that you just want to pour into her, to make her feel safe, wanted, cherished. And I need you to know that your love is not too much. You are not too much. The way you care, the way you crave connection, the way you want to love someone without barriers—that is beautiful, and it deserves to be met with the same depth and warmth.

But it sounds like she can’t meet you there, at least not right now.

I know that hurts to hear. I know you don’t want to believe it. Who’s making sure you feel safe? Who’s holding you when the longing becomes too much? Who’s giving you the reassurance you need?

Love shouldn’t leave you feeling used. Love shouldn’t leave you waiting, aching, wondering if you’re asking for too much. And I know that you wish she would just let you in, let you love her, let you be everything she needs. But if she’s not ready, if she’s not meeting you where you need her to be, then what you have isn’t a relationship—it’s you holding onto the hope of one.

And you deserve more than that.

You deserve someone who sees the way you love and runs toward it, not away. Someone who calls you adorable, who makes you feel small and cherished and safe, and who chooses to stay, to love you openly, fully, without hesitation. 3RD POV: (High Camp)

Neteyam and you waited patiently for Tsu'Tey and his secondhand man, Jake, to end their talk. At last their discussion turned to the future of your clan: who was to fill what roles for the next olo'eyktan and tsahik. You knew that you were to be tsahik; you were already tsakarem. One question did remain, though: who was to be your mate, and who was to become olo'eyktan after Tsu'Tey? These were basic decisions in which the whole clan had a vital interest.

"There is only one worthy of this post, Jake," Tsu'Tey said as he looked him square in the face. "Hope they choose a hot one for you", whispered Neteyam in your ear. You were close over these years; it happened when your fathers worked together, one being an olo'eyktan and the other Toruk Macto.

"If you would do me the honor of joining our families, one of your sons will need to serve as eytukan," Tsu'Tey said, addressing the nomination for olo'eyktan in training. "My eldest son is the same age as your daughter and is a prepared tsamsiyu. My youngest, however, has not yet gone through iknimaya," Jake said, facing Neteyam and you. "Then let it be decided," Tsu’Tey said, now facing the two of you. "Neteyam and Y/N will be promised to one another for the benefit of the clan so that someday they will take their places as olo'eyktan and tsahik.”

You leaned in closer to Neteyam and whispered, "Looks like they chose the most charming Na'vi I know." His face turned such a lovely shade of blue.

(High Camp, Months Later)

"What's on your mind, Y/N? You seem troubled," Tsu'Tey said, approaching you and noticing you off your ikran. "I need to speak with you, Father. I know I don't hold much power in your decision-making, but being your daughter, I hope you can hear me out," you responded.

"Of course, you can tell me anything," he said to you now, all ears. "I want so desperately to be joined with Neteyam already. I know that we shall be together when the time is right, when we're both olo'eytan and tsahik, but I'm growing impatient. I fear I shall never be able to stand living in a world where my soulmate is almost dying every day. Father, let me have him before then."

A moment of silence passed, then he nodded his head and said, "I will speak with Mo'at and listen to her words. But we must listen to Eywa." "Thank you, Father. I really appreciate it," you said hugging him, as he laid a soothing hand on the top of your head. "You remind me more and more of her with each passing day," he finally said.

Moments like these, speaking to you like this, you knew your father longed for his true love Sylwanin. You were the only person he really loved besides her. He cared nothing for your mother, some faraway figure you had never laid your eyes on. She chose to relinquish you upon your father and then to take her own life further showed how she wished nothing to do with you.

Neteyam POV: (Tree of Souls)

There she stood in the beautiful colors of our clan surrounding her body, with multiple flowers surrounding her hair. If hometree was not destroyed this would’ve been done there with all of our people watching, but our fathers decided it would be better if they waited a few miles away. But there she stood, my bride staring at me with all the hope she could carry in her eyes. 

As I approached her, I half-expected the earth to swallow me up, but somehow I reached her side and clasped her hands in mine. “You look stunning,” I managed to say, my eyes tracing the vibrant hues of her robe. “You’re truly mesmerizing, though I have to admit I like the everyday version of you even more.” She lifted a hand to gently caress the paint on my face, accentuating my tanhì.

I sighed, “I guess I was never able to break free from my mother’s traditions that keep our culture thriving.” My gaze drifted to the flowers woven into her hair, appreciating every detail of her. “Same here, my father and Mo’at had a tight grip on me too,” she replied, her laughter ringing out, bright and infectious. Together, we gently lowered ourselves to the ground, still clasping each other’s hands as we knelt.

"Oe txasunu nga." She uttered, her stunning lips forming the words, enhanced by a blue hue that I assumed was from a berry Mo’at had found. “I love you even more, yuey.” I replied back to her.

I stared at her, my confusion clear on my face. "So... what happens now?" I asked, my expression revealing my inexperience. This was all unfamiliar territory for me. After all, I had never been mated before. My one and only mate was right in front of me, laughter spilling out as she let go of my hands. She leaned back, holding her stomach in delight, and a few flowers slipped from her hair.

She took my hands again, steadying herself as she cleared her throat and began to speak. “My father said we could take as long as we wanted; we could sit and talk before we joined our kurus together.”

I smiled as I sat down on the cool grass, holding her hands in mine, gently urging her to join me. “How about we share our thoughts while we intertwine our kurus? We can help each other navigate this experience. It’s just as new for you as it is for me,” I proposed.

She smiled brightly as she reached for her braid, allowing her tendrils to fall freely, and I did the same. “Do you remember our first real meeting? We were about 12, not quite kids anymore. Want to know what my mom said about you?” I asked, moving my kuru closer to hers as she nodded eagerly. “I just have this feeling that these kids are meant to be mates,” I added, and as our tendrils intertwined, a quiet moment enveloped us, prompting a soft gasp from her.

Gentle waves of her memories flooded my mind, each one clear and deeply felt. I saw her first memory being her mother’s face, Tsu’tey lifting her high for our people to admire, the bittersweet last moments with her mom, and all the precious times we spent together. As our kurus separated, my tendrils naturally brushed against her face, as if they had a mind of their own. I then moved my braid aside, bringing my hand up to her face instead, a soft gesture full of love.

As she opened her eyes, tears glistened at the corners. “Ma Neteyam, you’ve been through so much,” she whispered, her voice quivering. “Forget all that; just being here with you now makes those memories fade,” I said, softly brushing away her tears before leaning in to kiss her forehead, accidentally smudging some paint onto my lips.

She chuckled softly again, lightly brushing my lips, but I gently took her hand away. “No, don’t wipe it off. It feels like you’re taking away your touch, and honestly, I don’t mind a bit of paint on my lips.” I said, holding her gaze for a moment before she leaned in, pressing her lips to mine and leaving a bit of color on her own.

I dedicated two months to perfecting this piece, and I’m genuinely happy with how it turned out. I hope you enjoy it! With TikTok now banned in the U.S., I might start writing more often, so stay tuned for new content!

1. What is the main lesson of your story? Why did you choose it?

I'll use The Hunter, the Myth and the Cure for this!

I think the main lesson is how your past does not define your future. I didn't choose it per se, it just sort of happened due to how my characters behave and interact. Octavian in particular deals with a lot of guilt and grief for his past actions, despite some of them not being entirely his fault. During this current revision I realized this recurring theme and started leaning into it.

2. What did you use as inspiration for your worldbuilding?

I don't think there's anything specific for Valaria, just a lot of different elements that I like put together in one world. You've got humans in roughly the Georgian-Victorian Era (by our world's reference), you've got elves, also got a few original species of mine like the sang, the Draigo, and the devar. I also have werewolves (lycanthropes), this period of the world's history includes a genocide and a pandemic, yeah.

3. What is your MC trying to achieve, and what are you, the writer, trying to achieve with them? Do you want to inspire others, teach forgiveness or help the reader grow as a person?

I have three main characters: Draven wants money, mainly, and to deal with the lycanthropes, Octavian wants to find out the motives of the man who trapped him, and Reese wants to escape from captivity.

I mainly seek to entertain, and yeah teaching self-forgiveness is the main message but mostly I'm helping the characters grow.

4. How many chapters is your story going to have?

Uhhhh right now I'm working on chapter 6, but I haven't gotten to the second plot point yet so I think I'm about a quarter of the way through the original plan. Possibly 20 chapters, maybe more.

5. Is it fan fiction or original content? Where do you plan to post it?

6. When did you start writing?

That makes me a Level 9 writer, writing for nine years (storms I cannot believe it's been that long)

I started The Hunter, the Myth and the Cure in 2021. It's not my longest-running WIP (that would be The Watcher and The Thief, started in 2018), but I've been working at it a fair number of years.

7. Do you have any words of encouragement for fellow writers of writeblr? What other writers do you follow?

Do Not, I repeat, DO NOT DELETE YOUR STUFF!!!

Even if you hate it, you never know when you might decide years down the road to revisit a concept or idea. Also, it's good if you want to see just how far you've come.

Your brain can tell you that a piece sucks, but that doesn't mean you should get rid of it. Just bury it for a while, dig it up, and it might be better than you thought it was. You're always learning and growing, even if it doesn't look like it.

As we get ready to weather the next 4 or more years, I'm asking you to learn NOW to recognize outrage as a "stop and think" signal.

Outrage is going to be weaponized against us. News and social media are going to drown you in stories of scandal and power abuse and political nightmares. They want you to sit on your phone and look at these stories and feel outraged until you don't feel it anymore. It is a simple fact of human psychology that regular exposure to anything for long enough will make it feel normal. You can't be outraged for 4 years.

So, first learn how to recognize outrage, how it feels in your body. Does your pulse speed? Jaw clench? Are there words or phrases you reach for first when outraged?

Next, when you feel this, force yourself to stop and take a minute. Put down whatever device you're reading on, and think:

1. What are the practical implications of this story? Is this the issue most deserving of my energy right now? Is there something performatively bad going on here that would make a good distraction to keep my attention off more serious problems?

2. Is anyone profiting off my attention and outrage right now? Who has a financial incentive to make me feel this way? Do I trust the source this came from? If it's from a social media post, do I know what their sources were?

3. If this is a serious problem from a trustworthy source, have I already chosen a limited wheelhouse of action where I'm planning to focus my efforts?

3A. If not, is combatting this problem the wheelhouse I want to choose? Is this actionable for a person in my position?

3B. If I have, is this problem in my wheelhouse? If it is in my wheelhouse, is it actionable? How can I incorporate this into the work I'm already doing? What practical actions do I want to take?

3C. If it's not in my wheelhouse and I don't want to make it my wheelhouse, do I know anyone who is working on this that I can send the information to? Or maybe make a note to bring it up the next time I talk to them so I can hear about how their work is interacting with this story. It may not be something I'm going to work on, but it could still be nice to reassure myself that someone is.

Dungeon Crawler Carl Challenge

So I've been feeling pretty low the last few months. I know I'm not the only one riding that struggle bus, that a good number of the friends and mutuals around these parts are also feeling um. Uninspired, by current events. Demoralized, saddened, angry, confused, bereft - some of all of that.

One of the things I've been enjoying over the last year or so have been the Dungeon Crawler Carl books; some of you are probably also familiar, given a number of tabletop RPG folks hang out around these parts. If you haven't tried them, I heartily encourage them - they're cartoonishly violent, thoroughly offensive to anything resembling a religious or socially conservative sensibility, laden with body horror, full of cocker spaniel slander, and wildly vulgar in a teenage-boy sort of way. They are also full of complex and interesting female characters, affirmative masculinity, kindness in great duress, found family, anti-capitalism, pro-skepticism and determination in the face of overwhelming odds. A LOT of shit blows up. And the hero's wisecracking BFF is a Persian cat who is half Real Housewife, half neglected child.

The point of all this introduction to say: the titular Carl's mantra with which he is surviving the dungeon is, You will not break me.

And damn if I don't think he's got a point.

Spraytan Hitler getting inaugurated and nominating his bumbling coterie of asskissers to the Cabinet? Fuck him. Not gonna break me.

Morons trying to take rights, safety and bodily integrity away from people I love? Fuck them, not gonna break me.

People at work making THEIR months of fucking around MY workload problem now? Fuck that, not gonna break me.

Stupid chronic pain? Fuck it, not gonna break me.

Stupid depression and anxiety? Fuck no. Not gonna break me.

Now, dear reader, your challenge, should you choose to accept (you don't need to be a longtime follower or a follower at all, just a fellow crawler in this bullshit dungeon that is currently our lives who would like to stick it to The Corporation/The Universe At Large)

The AI of the dungeon likes to give Achievements. These are snarky, profane, moments of catharsis when you've finished a quest or defeated an enemy describing your reward (frequently just 'you're still alive, good for you') And since I don't have the wherewithal to send you guys the Celestial Benefactor Boxes you're out there grinding for, that's all I can give you - but if you want 'em, tell me what quest you've beaten/mob you've splattered each day and I'll give you an Achievement.

Mobs can be tasks you've been dreading, phone calls you don't want to make, awkward conversations, doctor's visits you don't want to schedule.

Quests are good things you're doing for yourself. Working out/making opportunities to move in any way? Making art/crafting/writing/other creative endeavors? Learning a new professional or personal skill? Reading longform books (of whatever genre) instead of doomscrolling? Making an effort to heal your relationship with food in ANY way you think is appropriate FOR YOU? Treating yo' self? Pedicures are a buff in the dungeon! (it's probably best to not ask why)

Party up - when we're doing something with/for others - or letting others help us - we are stronger together than we are apart.

Some days, all you're up to is staying alive. Just staying alive is a worthwhile accomplishment.

I am going to try to every day for the next 30 to post at least one mob I've fought, quest I've been working on, or party I've joined. And anybody who would like one, reblog mine with yours and I'll give you an Achievement.

People in this fandom treat Louis like he’s a saint but he was a emotionally and verbally abusive partner to both lestat and Armand a lot of the time (trapping a person you barely like in rebound situationship hell is a different kind of cruel and if Armand and lestat weren’t Armand and lestat and were not abusers themselves people would be able to see this more clearly) was physically violent with Claudia ,Armand and grace, put hands on lestat and was an entire serial killer during the 70s specifically preying on gay men who were down and out, left the first person who helped him in Romania to get put down like a dog, tried to kill a young junkie kid for being stupid and saying dumb shit ( Daniel’s insane lack of empathy during that episode is acknowledged though because telling someone you’ll be better than their dead kid sick) and prostituted women fully knowing it was wrong just so he could keep his family in luxury and was physically and emotionally violent with a chronically ill elderly man who didn’t do anything wrong other than try to hold him accountable . He is an awful person like everyone else in the diabolicule and that’s just a fact. He tends to hide it in this hypocritical genteel veneer, but if you ignore his words and look solely at his actions you’ll see that Saint Louis is not an apt nickname at all. What’s worse is usually only does good things to assuage his guilt ( making claudia after getting an entire community screwed over, the bright young reporter speech after trying to kill Daniel and provoking Armand, making madeleine to make up for constantly neglecting Claudia and picking mentally ill twunks over her).

And ok this is the toxic fruity bloodsucker show and we don’t expect any of these guys to be sweet and wholesome but the way people treat him like he’s done nothing wrong in his relationships grinds my gears.

They are all bad people. Louis was no doubt the victim of manipulation, gaslighting and physical abuse in his relationships but he was also abusive, and we can try to justify his mistreatment of Armand and lestat because they are lestat and Armand but there’s no excuse for his neglect of Claudia, grabbing her that way, ignoring her self harm, going back to her abusive cheating father, choosing Armand(one of her murderers) over her and then spitting on her memory by running right back into the arms of the man who made her life miserable and lead to her death.

That’s the thing about this show, it’s just cruelty and bad decisions and romantic toxicity, it’s very heavy allegory of the way familial and platonic relationships are neglected in favour of romantic ones or used to sustain them. It’s knowing you have failed so many people you claimed to love and having to live with that until the sun fucking explodes because you’re literally immortal, but it’s also the hope that by having time as a completely infinite resource it’s possible unlearn these cycles. Louis and lestat were never healthy or good to each other but there was love there and it showed , and maybe they can find a way to make that enough this time around. I don’t think lestat will get over the events of their first marriage and I think when the self awareness kicks in Louis won’t escape the guilt either and maybe that’s what they both need,

There are always 2 sides.

The discourse around Louis and Lestat being a victim and abuser and nothing more drives me insane.

Something i don't think enough people remember is that the very same reason the fight began in 1×05 (lestat grabbing claudia by the throat when she tries to "take louis away") we see Louis himself do to her in 1×07 when she tries to get Louis to burn Lestat.

They BOTH would harm her rather than live in a world without the other. They are both guilty of abusing her and each other.

There is an implication that a good deal of time passed between Louis and Lestat meeting and the church. Louis expresses that he shares himself with Lestat in a way he only had with Paul. I would assume that goes both ways, to a degree. We know Louis knows at least enough about Nicki to discourage Claudia poking that wound. He also clearly knows that the threat of leaving is his most powerful weapon against Lestat.

Mental abuse is abuse. And Louis abused Lestat mentally for years. Shaming him, ridiculing him, shutting him out, manipulating him into making Claudia (a traumatic moment for him, whether Louis understands the depths of it or not) by promising to give him what he's being denying him, promising to never put him through what he fears the most.

Louis admits to purposely making Lestat suffer. He admits he was warned that Claudia would suffer and he wanted her anyway because he needed to feel redeemed. He is not innocent. He is not a trapped, weak victim. He made choices to hurt both Lestat and Claudia time and time again.

Does this justify Lestat's actions in 1×05? Obviously not. But we now know Louis was not willing to stop the fight. He taunted Lestat the same way he taunted the Alderman. He was unleashing years of frustrations just as Lestat was. His priority was not to protect Claudia, it was to hurt Lestat, consequences be damned.

I hate the drop scene as much as the next person and Lestat has admitted he will never earn forgiveness for what he did. But if you view Louis as some squeaky clean victim who was manipulated, trapped, and abused by Lestat you are missing so much of what this show is conveying.

We will always tend to paint ourselves as the hero of our own story. It is hard to accept your faults or that you hurt people you love. It is much easier to shift that blame on to someone else, to frame them as the villian. But life is not usually that black and white. Claudia had harsh words for them both in her diary, even before they got to Europe, for a reason. They both made hurtful mistakes with her, both treated her like a pawn in their relationship instead of a person, both harmed her, took away her choice, never prioritized her.

That is the great tragedy. That she never had a choice and was not allowed to be her own person. And in the end, they both are responsible for her misery and her death. That's what makes the reunion scene so important. They have been grieving her and carrying that guilt alone, all the while longing for the comfort of the other for 70+ years. Louis has found clarity in his memories, he has accepted his role in their suffering, he has seen Lestat's perspective more fully. Lestat is broken, totally consumed with that guilt and grief. Both know that although they cannot change what they've done, they can forgive the other, even if they can't forgive themselves. They can love each other despite everything they've done to one another because they cannot stop loving each other. But now they can try to rebuild that love from the rubble.
