Analysis of Sylus's polite speech in japanese

I didn't even check Shin's introduction because I was too busy losing my mind over how silly Sylus sounded ajskshsk

I zoomed in on Rei first and just shrugged off his keigo as just something that comes naturally for him, so it didn't even occur to me that all the other boys would use keigo too, including Shin

Listen. I'm not gonna say I fell in love with him a little more the moment I heard him speak like this but even his voice got a lot softer. You can hear the difference when he switches to talking to your friends. That roughness in his voice comes back in

He even changed his personal pronoun from Ore (rough, casual, masculine) to Watashi (respectful, formal, neutral, the pronoun Rei normally uses)

That line 彼女とお付き合いさせてもらっています is super respectful and appreciative, more so than necessary to get the point across that he's dating you. In Japanese, the more additions you tack onto a sentence, the more polite it is. So instead of saying "we're dating", he's saying something like "she is giving me the opportunity to date her for my own benefit that I'm grateful for".

Compare this to Rei, who normally is quite respectful and formal himself, Rei sounds much more casual about going out with you. He's still speaking politely of course, but it's not the big "I'm honored to be dating your daughter" vibe that Shin is portraying

"Nice to meet you. My name is Rei, her lover. We have been dating for a long time and I have always wanted to find the time to meet her family."

It's only when Shin introduces himself to your friends that he switches back to his casual speech, with his casual personal pronoun, and calls himself your boyfriend in a matter of fact way like Rei does

"I'm Shin, her boyfriend. Nice to meet you."

What's funny is that all the boys use keigo but Seiya still uses Ore to refer to himself. Homura uses Boku, which is... Fine. It's more casual than Watashi and it's not as jarring as throwing out Ore in the middle of keigo speech. Mahiru doesn't use a personal pronoun in the preview but the fact that he comes out of the gate with "mom and dad" already sets him up to be more casual but still polite

So in the introductions to your parents, Shin is a lot more formal and respectful than literally all the other boys 😳

He really wants to make a good impression on them and makes it a point to convey how grateful he is to be dating you

I create anything artistic basically. From drawing to music. I'm the founder of EstuFAWN Studios (@estufawn-studios) which makes VN, IFs, and Books.

I do struggle with my mental health quite a bit so comms can be delayed because of that and due to the fact I am busy suddenly a lot. -> This doesn't just include comms I'm struggling to find proper therapy along with managing a world made for nuerotypicals so I disappear for weeks sometimes because I just don't have the energy

I think part of why Sylus managed to worm his way into being one of my mains is that he's like... The word durable comes to mind

He'd be able to finesse his way around my tsundereness without being put off by it. He's designed to do so because his MC was designed to be slightly tsundere towards him too

There were a few moments that I don't remember off the top of my head where he handled her perfectly, but the main thing in my head right now is from the touring in love ending

The way he kept asking her if she liked what he made and wouldn't let go of it in a light hearted way

Because of this, I feel like he'd be able to win me over irl faster than any of the boys could. He's insistent and proactive right from the start

I have begrudgingly finally given Sylus his own FO tag since he has slowly cemented his place on my blog and I figured it was about time

The tag just comes from our two symbols, but also a vague reference to some Native American / Aboriginal stories that I've heard sometime way back when I was a kid but I can't recall the specifics of off the top of my head or after just a quick google search

But I'm reading up on it now and there seems to be many myths from many cultures, including Chinese, that involve a wolf and a crow/raven

Wolves and crows also have a symbiotic relationship in the wild so I think it's a nice image

I feel like I'd need to write an actual fic about this combining all these myths into one tbh

Someone was talking about horoscope compatibility with the boys and I was curious how my sign measured up

After reading through the first few chapters of Caleb's story and having both Zayne and Sylus catch me poking around his banner, I feel like

With me choosing Sylus on my homepage, I can't help but imagine him just having the dopiest, stupidest grin on his face whenever I poke him or ask him to remind me about things because I was all tsuntsun towards him just a while ago and now I'm choosing him over someone I was looking forward to. He'd be the smuggest bitch to ever step foot in the cafe because he finally won over the tsundere asdfasdlkj

Because even though I haven't gotten to the meat of the story yet, I do feel a little weird about like... interacting with Caleb. The most I feel comfortable doing is poking his arm

What also doesn't help is the fact that his outfits really emphasize his muscles and (plot twist) I actually have a lowkey wariness of muscular men. Sylus is different somehow idk. But Caleb being both muscular and military kinda sets me on edge

This might change drastically today though since I'm planning on continuing the story with his jp dub. I'll have to go through the first part of the story with his jp dub too so even though the writing will be the same, the difference in delivery and in voice will definitely play a big part in how I see Caleb
