oh i have so much thought out for all the characters. im really excited about what i’ve been working on for them! i can’t say a lot of it yet because again i wanna save a lot for the actual project, but —

1) so, a big thing in the au is dealing with grief. a lot of the characters have already lost somebody, and losing hunter is like, their world has just completely crumbled down around them. it’s the unexpected blow to whatever sense of normalcy they’ve achieved. their friend is just gone. they don’t even know if he’s dead or not, there’s no closure. it really, really turns their reality upside down

some of them manage better than others, at least outwardly. willow still has a lot of that “keeping it together for everyone else’s sake” that she has in the show. some throw themselves into their hobbies or coping skills and some, like Luz, dedicate nearly all their time to trying to bring things back to the way they used to be (even if that’s impossible). the group is really strained after what happened

everyone has their “thing” that sorta gets them by. gus is really into supernatural phenomena, willow her photography, etc.

aside from that — they’re all in school together (minus hunter, who was homeschooled). luz writes short stories for the school paper, while gus does journalism and willow photography. amity is in STEM classes and robotics with mattholomule. vee is doing dual enrollment and takes art classes. outside of school, they used to hang out in freddy’s (minus vee. she hates the place. i wonder why?) or at each other’s houses for movies and game nights and all that. they all have a really strong bond <3

treasure chests are large, exclusively carnivorous objects most commonly known for their bizarre biology. they're an ambush predator and they hunt in a similar way to things like venus flytraps and anglerfish. first, they'll use their large claws to dig out a hole the perfect size for the bottom half of their body; they'll then climb into it, flip open the top of their bodies and wait for a potential meal to come by. the interiors of their bodies are lined with large shiny crystal-like growths, similar to pearls, which shine under light and will attract curious creatures to investigate. once an object or animal is close enough, the treasure chest will snap its lid (which is lined with sharp protrusions) closed, trapping its prey inside alive. it will then remain in its burrow while its meal is digested alive within its body cavity. once finished, it will climb out of the burrow to return to its nest, used only for sleeping. their preferred nesting areas are caves, but they will sometimes also dig into ledges or cliffs to create makeshift nests.

these objects are very sedentary; due to this, their ranges are comparably much smaller than other objects of a similar size. the only times they'll move to a new area is if they no longer are able to attract prey to eat. treasure chests are also a very solitary species, only interacting with other members of their kind for the purpose of reproduction. interestingly, the mother will abandon the babies after only around three days - their hunting habits are entirely instinct and they don't need to be taught by a parent. a telltale sign of a treasure chest living nearby is the presence of several deep and wide holes in a small area.

due to their dietary needs and aggressive behavior, this species has not been domesticated. DO NOT INTERACT WITH WILD TREASURE CHESTS. they have been known to attempt eating humans. these creatures are capable of doing a LOT of damage due to their sharp claws and teeth, not to mention their digestive power.
