Were you aware that there is discourse in the fandom on whether or not Mori is an actual pedophile? Despite the infamous line ("I prefer the women in my life to be under twelve.") and Elise's existence, this is an actual debate that happens.

The main argument made is that despite the general creepiness of the whole thing, Mori never actual touches or interacts 'inappropriately' with a child and that most of his lolicon moments and tendencies are played as a joke, an unfunny and distasteful one, but a joke nonetheless. People argue that since weird stuff like this, lolicon and shotacon adults who gush and blush over children in a context that is presented as satirical or comedic, is very common in anime and manga, that Bungou Stray Dogs employs these tropes as well since Mori's supposed pedophilia isn't a relevant part of his grander character outside of a few moments and that, along with his portrayal in the BEAST spin-off, confirm that he's not ACTUALLY a pedophile.

I'm gonna be honest anon, your message made me doubt the linked thread. But that thread essay on Mori was genuinely an incredible read and I'd recommend anyone who dislikes him read it. The main arguments aren't that he doesn't touch her, it's a joke, etc. it's that the source material he's based on AND the deeper character interactions in BSD support Elise being a reflection of his regrets (how he treats ppl despite caring abt them) and desire to have a family (but he can't bc ?? Bc Mafia? Bc ace aro? Bc he knows he treats ppl like shit? Bc he did somewhere in the past and abandoned them? Who knows!!).
