The genre has always been romance.

Why I don’t like MelJayVik;

For starters I’m a Jayvik truther but a JayMel believer; I enjoy both ships for differing reasons.

HOWEVER!!!! I do not ship them poly (at least in the sense of them all dating eachother) because of one reason; MEL AND VIKTOR ARE BEEFING HEAVY.

Mel and Viktor rarely communicate in canon and when they do they are arguing. The only time Mel looks at Viktor is literally when she’s looking down on him.

In this scene^ I can’t find the direct screen cap but in this scene she literally looks down on him. It’s an intentional detail.

My theory is that, because they are both mages (yes Viktor technically is a mage) they both see each others true selves.

Mel sees through Viktor, but he doesn’t make an effort to hide how he’s feeling most of the time. MEL HOWEVER is actively manipulating Jayce. Viktor sees this.

(You can argue Viktor may not be an empath but due to him changing others emotions by doing that weird hand forehead thing, I’d say he’s one - if he can be held to typical mage standards*1.)

Viktor is like the only blockage for her manipulating Jayce here. Thus their beef. (Not to mention Jayce literally leaving after taking that cookie to be with Viktor. It’s an understandable reason but she’s still upset by it.)

If Mel is a fox, Viktor also is one, and Jayce is the puppy chasing both their tails*.

*1 Viktor is a man-made mage. But also not..? It’s up to you if you want to hold him to typical mage standards.

*I don’t want to imply Jayce is stupid; the man is a genius. But to me he comes off socially inept at times.
