What's funny (read: mortifying while also being comforting) about being in a system is some people can lose their talking to you rights. It's a very well oiled defense mechanism. If you start being mean to someone, then you now have about three mountains to ever speak to them again.

It's not just that person doesn't feel safe around you. Probably they still do and don't even know you were hurting them. Instead, you have to convince everyone else in the system you won't hurt them again.

When a system has been through that cycle enough, though, there's not anything you really can do to make them trust you again.

Because it's all been done before. Someone else has already used that method of betrayal.
