【 pro/com/dark ship & fic DNI】+ Notes: Apply any Afton version you can imagine. Oh God, I have so many drafts (unfinished) about this purple man and I'm so confused about which one to post first. aughhh

You’ve been ignoring him for days. Whatever he did (or didn’t do), you made it very clear you weren’t in the mood to talk. William, at first, tried to brush it off with his usual arrogance— "Oh, so we're givin' the silent treatment now? Cute."—but now? It’s driving him insane.

So here you are, lying on your bed, scrolling through whatever you can just to avoid thinking about him. And then—

There’s a faint shuffling noise.

You ignore it.

Then… a soft, almost suspiciously playful voice pipes up from the other side of your bed.

“…Hey, bun. You still mad?”

You freeze. That wasn’t William’s usual voice. It was… higher-pitched. Unnaturally chipper. And then, very slowly—

A pair of big, floppy yellow ears peek over the edge of your bed. Followed by—

Springbonnie. Or, well— a stuffed plush version. Held up directly in front of William’s face.

His hands carefully wiggle the plush like a damn puppet. "Ah, love, don’t be mad! Y'know Willy didn’t mean it—he’s just got a big ol’ dumb brain!"

You stare.

William is literally hiding behind a Springbonnie plush, slowly inching closer, his fingers gripping its little arms like a ridiculous sock puppet.

If you don’t react, he escalates.

The plush suddenly moves to pat your arm. "C'mon, sugar—won’tcha smile for me? Just a li’l one?"

And then, because he’s an absolute menace—he starts bouncing the plush closer.

Boop. Right against your forehead.

"Boop! Boop! Forgive Willy, pretty please?"

You break.

The smallest, tiniest laugh escapes you, and immediately—the plush drops. William pounces on that reaction like a starved man.

"A-ha! There it is—knew you couldn’t stay mad forever, love."

And before you can deny it, he’s already climbing onto the bed beside you, smug as hell.

"Y'know, if you ignored me any longer, I was this close to pullin’ out the full Springlock suit. You wouldn't stand a chance, sweetheart."

…You believe him.

Beneath all the rot, the cruelty, the self-serving nature of him, William does have moments—rare moments—where he genuinely treasures simply being with you. Moments he will never admit out loud. Moments he hoards like stolen gold because, deep down, he knows they will not last.

William would never outright say he has favorite moments—he likes to keep his emotions close to the chest, always playing things off with sarcasm or smug little remarks. But if you pay attention, you’ll notice the times where he lingers just a bit longer, where his usually sharp gaze softens, where his grip on your wrist turns into something almost… gentle.

1. When You Play with His Hair (Even if He Pretends to Hate It)

He’ll grumble at first, always. “D’you think I’m some bloody house pet, love?”

But the moment your fingers rake through his hair, threading through the unruly strands? He melts.

He won’t admit it, but he starts leaning into your touch. If you stop, expect a very subtle, almost petulant glance. Like a cat that refuses to ask for affection, but clearly wants more.

2. He Likes It When You Touch Him Absentmindedly

William is not used to being touched with care. Every touch he has known in his life was intentional, purposeful, conditional. But when you trace patterns on his arm without thinking, or play with his fingers while you’re distracted, or comb through his hair lazily while talking about nothing—

He stills. He goes quiet. Because for once, he is being touched without expectation.

He never comments on it. Never asks for it. But if you stop, he will find some excuse to linger close enough for you to start again.

3. He Smirks When You Ramble, But He’s Listening To Every Word

If you ever just start talking—about something random, something stupid, some pointless anecdote about your day—he will mock you, smirk at you, tease you for being so chatty.

"Love, do you ever shut up?" he’ll say.

But he never actually stops you. He lets you keep talking. And later, days, weeks, months later, he will casually reference something you said offhand, something even you forgot about.

He was listening. He was always listening.

4. He Likes It When You Sit In His Lap—But He'll Never Ask

If you just plop down into his lap, unprompted, like it’s natural—he will scoff, roll his eyes, call you needy. But he will not move you.

He’ll pretend to ignore you while continuing whatever he was doing—flipping through notes, sketching on a scrap of paper, sipping a drink. But after a few minutes, his arm will casually find its way around your waist.

If you try to move, his grip tightens. "Mmh. No. Stay." And then he just continues as if nothing happened.

5. He Gives You the Bigger Half of Things Without Thinking About It

If he’s splitting something, he will automatically give you the bigger half. A sandwich, a slice of cake, the last of a drink—he doesn’t even think about it.

You could try to point it out, try to tease him for it— "Oh? So you do care, Mr. Afton?"

And he will immediately deny it. "What? Pft, no, I just don’t want to deal with you whining if I don’t."

But you know the truth.

6. He’s Shamelessly Territorial, But Not In The Way You’d Expect

William is not the type to throw public tantrums or pick fights out of jealousy. Instead, his territorial nature comes in subtler, pettier ways.

If someone flirts with you? He won’t get outwardly angry. No yelling, no threats. Instead, he will simply fix you with a smug smirk, lean in close, and say something that only you will understand.

"Are they boring you yet, love? Because I could fix that."

If you laugh at someone else's joke? He will immediately lean in and whisper something twice as crude, twice as vulgar, just to make sure you laugh harder.

If you wear something he likes on you? He will not compliment you. Instead, he will tug at the fabric, adjust the hem, slide a finger along the seam—subtle reminders that it is his to admire.

It is not possessiveness. It is territory marking.

7. If He’s Truly Comfortable, He Falls Asleep With His Head Against You

William does not sleep easily. He sleeps in short, light increments, always half-aware, always ready to move. But on very rare nights, if he feels safe enough, he will let himself doze off against you.

His head will drop against your shoulder—not intentionally, just naturally. His breath will even out, his fingers twitching slightly in his sleep.

If you comment on it in the morning, he will immediately deny it. "Tch. I did no such thing."

But the slight hoarseness in his voice from how deeply he slept says otherwise.

8. He’s Weak to You Laughing at His Jokes

William thinks he’s funny. And usually, his humor is crude, mean-spirited, sarcastic.

But if you actually laugh—really laugh, genuinely—something changes.

He goes still for half a second, just watching you, like he’s caught off guard by it.

And then his smirk softens, just barely. His next joke is just a little gentler, just a little less cruel.

Because, maybe, just maybe, he likes hearing you laugh more than he likes hearing himself talk.

Bonus: The Most Unexpectedly Soft Thing He Does?

Sometimes, when you are already asleep, when you are not even aware of him, he will reach out and fix something small—a blanket sliding off your shoulder, a strand of hair falling across your face.

This one is subtle. But his absolute favorite thing is when you’re just existing around him.

Maybe you’re humming absentmindedly, fiddling with something on the desk while he works. Maybe you’re curled up on the couch, completely relaxed in his presence.

He watches, sometimes. Just quietly.

It hits him, in those moments, that you’re comfortable with him. That you trust him.

And it scares him. But it also… settles something deep in his chest.

He won’t say anything. He won’t make a big deal out of it.

But later, when you’re near, he’ll rest his hand on your back, or brush his fingers against yours. A silent acknowledgment.
