We all know this, it’s the summary that captures the reader and peaks the viewer’s interest despite us might not wanting to see the series or film. I bet, we all had that feeling where we don’t know to watch something or not, but it’s that long-line that makes us interested 👀 (it also helps hearing it from the perspective of someone else who had already seen the product before!)

A good log-line answers the “What is it?” question, clearly and enticingly. Most log-lines will state the central conflict of the story and provide some sort of an emotional hook to stimulate interest.

Secondly, the open loops! We are all too familiar with those dang cliffhangers at the end of our favorite TV shows that leaves us wanting more, feeling annoyed or antsy cause we want to know what happens next! What are is rest of this story? What comes next? Is Meredith gonna end up with Derek or not?! Are Mark and Lexie gonna stay how they truly feel?

The human brain is so complex yet captivating as it wants to comprehend and close that loop.

This is why SO MANY people end up binge watching their favorite series til the end in a single weekend. We need the answers! Sometimes it’s not answers, sometimes it’s that simple evoking energy the series gives us that might be comfort, that leads up to keep watching.

Third, the storytelling duh! What do really great TV shows and movies have in common? They have all mastered the art of transporting you out of your living room and into an entirely different world that they’ve created. And they do this through extremely thorough sensory detail and descriptive storytelling. The lighting, the music, the dialogue, the carefully crafted costumes and landscaping, they all play a pivotal role in your cinematic experience.

But all of this can be carefully replicated just as well, if not better through great writing! That’s because great storytelling brings out all of your senses, sounds, taste, sight and even the smells.

⊹ » number two — when you reassured me when i was at my lowest that whole time frame felt like i was being sucked into a black hole and it felt so bad.. it felt horrible to talk about these things even when it seemed so little. for some reason, it felt shaming to be myself and i let it get to me, it still doesn’t click with me how out of all people you chose me and you kept choosing me every single day joo. i think that was the time where i realized that i was truly, deeply in love with you.. i love you so dearly and you’re the most precious thing to me— i love how silly we get when things get hard and it lifts everything off my shoulders.. you’re so comfortable to be with, i don’t ever wanna go anywhere when i’m with you, but go more together in the future.. pfft- just me, you, milo and circe and maybe i know this for sure maybe, just a few plus ones or something..

⊹ » number three — circe and milo playing in the snow ah yes, those days where you were getting the bag while i got locked in the basement for a few actions… eugh. i didn’t expect it on my bingo card either, but that happened! i kinda felt useless in that period too, but when i sent you the video of them tackling in snow and jumping around, all that stuff and see you look so fond of it, it made me realize how proud i felt for the both of us. we really were happy with eachother.. i saw it in the sparkle of your eyes and when and how you woke me up in the middle of the night to tell me that. you have no idea how much you mean to me in general and I would give anything and do everything to show you that any and everyday.. just look at how i'm going insane at ten pm in our living room while recording this?

Miller: Stop the front, we know who you really are, Pacifica.

Paz: I don't know what you are talking about, Miller. What did I do to deserve this?

Miller: We know why you were detained by Skull Face. You know why, too.

Paz: No, I don't! I don't know who Skull Face is! Miller…who is that?

(Incomprehensible murmuring from across the room from DD soldiers)

Ocelot: What do you know about a thing called Cipher?

Paz: Cipher? The one you MSF guys talk about? I don't know much, other than what you have said.

Miller: No! You know exactly what Cipher is, what XOF is. We need you to tell us everything.

Paz: I. Don't. Know. What. You. Are. Talking. About! You're confusing me!

Miller: Ocelot. Try this.

(Brief silence as Ocelot hesitates)

Ocelot: Miller, I don't think we need to go that far. I think she's telling the truth-

Miller: I said, try this!

Paz: Wh-what is that?

Miller: Truth serum. I'm sorry, but if you're not going to tell the truth on your own, we're going to make you.

(Ocelot injects the serum, resulting in Paz screaming in pain)

Paz: Why did you do that?! It hurts so bad, Miller! Why?!

(Footsteps as Ocelot goes to speak to Miller)

Miller: Normally you get off on torturing people. What's the exception with her, huh? Why are you going so easy on her, being so gentle?

Ocelot: You say that like you want me to enjoy hurting her. You want information, but I don't think going about it like this will get it.

Miller: I don't care how you get her to talk, just do it. Paz has been through a lot of pain, but I'm not above giving her more if it means she'll tell us about Skull Face, about XOF, about Cipher.

Ocelot: You don't care if she experiences more pain? Come on now. She means something to you and the Boss, and you and the Boss mean something to her. I listened to her diary tapes, you know. As time went on, she actually cared about you guys at MSF. She even hinted at betraying Cipher to stay with you.

Miller: I heard the tapes, even before Camp Omega. And I cared...care about her. We wrote music together. We were friends...when she was living a lie, at least. I don't want to see her hurt. I just want the truth, so if hurting her is the way, then so be it.

(Paz whimpering in the distance)

Ocelot: I think you're already getting the truth. She has amnesia or something. After the serum wears off, I'm going to have a doctor check her out.

Miller: Fine. But could you go ask her a few more questions just to make sure? Here, show her these pictures. One of these came from a former MSF soldier Snake found in the field; he had it on his person. See if they elicit a response.

(Footsteps as Ocelot approached Paz again)

Ocelot: I'm sorry about the shot hurting you. That's just... a side effect. It should go away.

Paz: I want it to go away soon. Are you here to ask me more questions?

Ocelot: Yes, but just a couple. Here, I have some pictures. Tell me, do you remember taking this?

(Ocelot shows Paz the photo of her and Miller)

Paz: Yes, of course!! Miller and I were writing a song for Peace Day. You know, I haven't seen you around, you must be new, so I bet you didn't know. Miller has an awful voice, so I'm singing. I can't wait to play it in front of everyone!

Ocelot: Okay, good. I'll see if, uh, Miller wants to play it later, but for now we've got a bit more to look at. Here, recognize this guy?

(Ocelot shows Paz the photo of Skull Face)

Paz: Um, no, I would remember someone who looks like that. What is wrong with him?

Ocelot: Uh, well...*scoffs* Hm. So you don't know him at all?

Paz: No, I don't. I've never seen him before.

Ocelot: Paz, do you promise me you're telling the truth? Because if you aren't, Miller's gonna make me use another one of those shots on you.

Paz: Yes, of course I am telling the truth! Why would I lie?! I don't even know why I am here!

Ocelot: Paz, do you remember how you got this scar?

30. it’s not love ⸝ ˚⋆

the hallway was crowded as you walked out of your classroom, loud conversations happening as everyone pushed each other to see what was happening. somehow you managed to get out of the building, seeing another crowd lingering in the grass. spotting your friends, you went up to them and asked them what was going on.

“that’s what we’re trying to figure out,” jake said as he stood on his tiptoes in an attempt to see over the crowd. there was a collective gasp that had you turning back towards the group of people. you saw people parting as someone walked through them.

there was a loud scream. “ugh! you and y/n? are you serious?” you heard a voice say. you turned to your friends with wide eyes and they heard you loud and clear. you all pushed through the crowd and managed to get a good look at the conflict. sakura was fuming at an unbothered looking sunghoon, beomgyu recording it all. “what is so fucking special about that bitch?”

your eyebrows raised at sakura’s comment. was she really this mad that she was losing control over people she never should’ve had control over in the first place? you rolled your eyes and noticed heads turning to the right.

following the direction, you saw soobin storming through the crowd, the angriest you have ever seen him. you felt an arm link with yours and looked over to see yunjin, a confused look on her face. the rest of your friends gathered around you too. “woah…” jake said. “i’ve never seen him that furious.”

soobin made a beeline directly towards sunghoon and sakura. when he got close enough, he spat out sunghoon’s name with so much venom it shocked you to your core. your brows furrowed, what the hell is happening? was this all because of sunghoon’s post? it must be.

in one fluid motion, soobin stepped to sunghoon and landed the meanest right hook onto his face. there was another collective gasp, you and your friends included, as sunghoon stumbled to the ground with a trail of blood pouring out his nose. “what game are you playing with y/n?” soobin asked fiercely, pushing sunghoon back to the ground when he tried to stand.

“soobin! what the hell is wrong with you?” sakura screeched as she tried to grab onto him. he just shook her off of his arm, not even bothering to spare her a glance as he stared daggers down at sunghoon. beomgyu laughed loudly and pointed the camera towards them. “beomgyu!” sakura exclaimed as she motioned to the two boys in front of her for him to do something. he just shook his head.

you and your friends looked at each other. honestly, you knew you should probably break up the fight, but you wanted to see how far it would go and for what. plus, sunghoon deserved to get punched after he called you a bitch earlier. there was a sly smile on yeonjun’s lips and kai tried to stifle his laugh. you didn’t need soobin fighting for your honor, but it felt nice to know that he was doing it anyways.

sunghoon looked up at soobin, irritation and anger written all over his features as he held a hand up to his bleeding nose. he usual smirk was full of wryness instead of its usual slyness. “what, jealous that she might like me more than she does you? that you lost your chance?” sunghoon asked.

you let out a small gasp just as soobin landed another hard punch across sunghoon’s face. without realizing, your feet were already moving through the rest of the crowd and towards soobin. you heard sunghoon’s laughter as he spotted you but soobin didn’t.

pushing soobin away harshly, you turned to give sunghoon the sharpest glare. “y/n…” soobin breathed lowly as his eyes landed on you. you turned the glare onto him and he stumbled back slightly at the intensity.

“oh look, here the bitch is!” you heard sakura drawl. you honestly forgot she was there. the anger boiled and grew inside of you. everything she had put you through came to the service and turned your vision white hot. you stormed up to her and slapped her across the face so hard your hand felt like it was on fire. “the bitch, yes,” you said to her.

sakura held her hand to her cheek, her body turned to the side and her hair in her face. her mouth was agape as she turned to look at you with wide eyes and furrowed brows. you can already see the red shape of your hand appear on her face. turning away from her, you focused your attention back to soobin.

“you’re just gonna let her hit me?!” you heard sakura screech behind you. “well, sakura, i can't say that you didn’t deserve it,” you heard sunghoon’s voice, followed by beomgyu’s laugh. “you’re still recording?” sakura yelled louder.

grabbing soobin’s wrist, you let out a, “seriously?” you dragged him through the crowd as you looked for an empty private spot. once you found one, you whipped around to face him. “what was all of that?”

despite everything, soobin looked at you lovingly. it was as if he couldn’t help it; as if it just leaked through the cracks out of him. “what was all of that with sunghoon?” he asked you instead. “him of all people? you’re with him? what about us? i thought we were working on getting back together and i see you in the elevator and i open twitter to you kissing him!” soobin motioned to the hoodie you were wearing, which was sunghoon’s, as he spilled his feelings. “wearing his clothes! what does he have over you to make you act this way? just tell me and i will fix everything. you don’t even like him!”

you ran your hands down your face. “what? that’s why you’re punching sunghoon?” you inhaled deeply and looked up at the incredulous look on his face. “because you think i’m with him? because you think he’s blackmailing me?”

soobin looked to the ground, breathing heavily as he just nodded. “what else could it be? it’s not love, i know that for certain.” you couldn’t help but laugh at the ridiculousness of this whole situation. how much everything had devolved. what was supposed to be a simple one-off prank had ended up in bloody noses and red faces. how you kept managing to dig yourself into these deep holes astounded you. soobin looked at you with confusion.

“soobin… who has my heart? you or sunghoon?” you asked. he looked to the ground again, cheeks flushed. “it was supposed to be a prank! me getting you back for the bet. make you squirm a bit so you understood how i felt. we never even kissed! it was stupid, and i’m sorry for hurting you, i really am. but, you did deserve it. i never meant for it to go this far.”

soobin combed his fingers through his hair. “i don’t care. i don’t care about any of that. all i care about is you. hurt me all you want. torture me. i’d rather be burnt by your flames than not feel your warmth at all.” he took your hands in his and pulled you close. “all i want is you. all i need is you.”

your heart swelled and lept at his sentiment. so many emotions flowed through you, you didn’t know which ones to focus on. “and i know you said you needed time, i’ll give you that. just please… please don’t shut me out again,” soobin spoke. tears brimmed in your eyes but you refused to let them fall. you nodded, “i won’t.”

you smiled at him and he gave you a wide smile right back, his dimples showing. soobin cupped your face, “now, can you take his hoodie off? it’s really starting to piss me off just looking at you in it.” laughing, you pulled the hoodie off so you were in the tank top you had under it. the cool breeze blew across your bare skin and caused you to shiver. immediately, soobin took off the hoodie he was wearing and handed it to you so he was left in his plain white t-shirt.

soobin took sunghoon’s hoodie and tossed it in the trash that was next to you and you had to hold in your laugh. you liked seeing him jealous. pulling his hoodie over your head, you sighed lightly to yourself. everything was starting to feel normal again. back in place.

you looked over to the crowd that was mostly dissipated now. there were only a few stragglers, besides your friends, who remained. you felt them glance over to your direction, trying to decipher what the hell just happened. you took soobin’s hand and intertwined your fingers. “i have to go, but i promise i won’t be a stranger.”

soobin smiled warmly at you and nodded. he held on to your hand as you walked away until the distance pulled your fingers apart, making you giggle as you made your way towards your friends.

i made a promise to myself before, to never settle for less or kahit let anyone to disrespect me. lolz i really thought i wouldn’t not make it here pero here i am, kaya pa naman. i know i’ve been through a lot, and 2023 gave me a lot of realizations, problems that i have already solved that i thought na hindi ko kaya maresolba. i think 2023 taught me again to overcome any obstacles that will come my way, i just need to hold into it, because at the end of the day, it will pass, as all things do. that’s life e, what else can we do? i just need make every moments special. i hope 2024 will be filled with so many beautiful memories i could keep within my heart, full of love that overflows, i want to survive 2024 na marami akong nagawang kagagahan, tama at unforgettable. minsan lang naman ’yan e, everything is once in a lifetime, you can’t bet on something na once lang mag occure. the setting, the plot, the time and everything. we are meant to live and love, do silly things, be weird, magkaroon ng embarrassing moments, follows our heart, do what makes us happy, be sad (of course). after all, living is not just all about those happy moments or situations, it’s about surviving too, acknowledging our emotions, bring out the best in us, be our better selves, and of course taking a break from everything. living is about being human. be you. open connections. cut people off. as long as you are living, you are surviving.

be gentle to yourself, you are one of a kind. you can do it. everything will pass, so add a little spice to every decisions you will make. it’s okay to lose people, just don’t lose yourself, but it’s okay to feel lost sometimes. take a break, acknowledge it, and find your way back to your self again. do what makes you happy. sacrifice for something that is worth it. always go for it if you want it. it’s now or never.
