i have less to say than i did about lance’s pack since i’m still thinking about them and would like to leave some surprises for a proper introduction another time, but i can at least share an overview and some names lol

.

small, inexperienced packs often struggle in their early years, dependent upon bountiful prey, good harvests and the cooperation of neighboring humans for survival. it’s for this reason that some will risk carving out territory near another pack. alliances hold their own dangers—some wolves have held grudges against rival packs for centuries, and some alphas are too territorial to peacefully coexist. but there are those who have the foresight to make their home near established and trusted friends, perhaps even family. when things go wrong for shelter mountain, lance turns to his uncle vanagandr.

the hoarfrost falls pack occupies the same rugged wilderness as the shelter mountain pack. bordering shelter mountain’s territory to the north, the much larger, more experienced pack offers its smaller neighbor support and protection. the current alpha’s family traces their ancestry all the way back to the ulfhednar werewolves who fought alongside vikings. to this day, they still practice some of the same traditions. for example, pack humans are acquired the same way they have been for hundreds of years: kidnapped, let loose in the wilderness of the pack’s territory and hunted like prey, “gifted” to whoever catches them. 

hoarfrost falls’ alpha is vanagandr. to humans, he’s an urban legend and bogeyman, a monster that appears in the night to snatch away misbehaving children or tourist hikers. to his pack, he’s a gentle giant known for his patience and compassion. all agree that he’s not to be trifled with. 

the pack’s beta is sawyer. while he can shift into a wolf, he can only partially shift towards human and is unable to conceal his claws, tail, the fur on his limbs and back, etc. doesn’t speak often and is unusually hostile towards humans.

the pack’s medic is linden. highly regarded and often sought after for medical apprenticeships, even by wolves whose territories are far, far away. while he is always polite and pleasant to pack humans, he tends to be overbearing and has extreme ideas and opinions about how best to keep them, likely stemming from the loss of a human he claimed years ago. 

pack fun facts:

->rarely set foot in human cities. sometimes send one or two pack members to attend the local farmer’s market or pick up something specific, but they never linger.

->if you suddenly notice a few of them hanging around town without any obvious purpose, that means they’re looking for potential pack humans (and it’s already too late to run).

->considered a menace by their human neighbors due to their practices. some believe they’re only tolerated due to their habit of driving off more aggressive packs, or perhaps for providing free search and rescue services for humans who get lost in the mountains. others think there’s something more to it: ever since vangandr became alpha, locals have become extremely reluctant to assist runaway pack humans…

i propose an idea: imagine a m!adeptus reader who is based off of krios khrysomallos, otherwise known as the golden-fleeced ram.

reader was just as close with xiao as the yaksha's were. rarely were the two seen apart, as they found comfort in each other's presence.

reader's adeptibeast form was a large ram with a golden coat of wool & large, curled ram horns. while in human form, he kept his horns, ram ears & tiny tail. his fleece was said to heal whoever touched it, even capable of bringing them back from the brink of death. naturally, an adeptus with this kind of power would be beneficial for a war such as the archon war, which the reader assisted morax in.

at the very end of the war, reader was exhausted. he wanted to go close his eyes & drift off into a long, well-deserved slumber, but he couldn't — not yet. he needed to make sure xiao was okay! after all, morax had essentially taken him under his wing &, by extension, that meant the reader considered him an acquaintance & potential friend. but as he was making his way over to xiao, the corners of his vision began to grow dark. his consciousness slipped away as did his strength to stay upright, the last memory of that moment being morax calling out his name in concern.

the golden-fleeced ram was said to of entered a comatose state, though he woke up a couple months following the war. during these few months, reader was placed in a sereniteapot for the time being, as it was probably the safest space for him. morax would visit frequently & xiao would accompany him. one of the times xiao visited, however, he damn near had a heart attack when reader abruptly rose from the bed he was resting in.

now, we know xiao is very hesitant when it comes to getting close to others. his karmic debt caused a wall to form between himself & the concept of social interaction. the reader understood this (to an extent), but assured xiao that his karmic debt wouldn't harm him. in fact, xiao would come to notice how the pain he felt tended to subside when he was in the presence of the reader. because of this, the two ended up spending more & more time in each other's presence, even if little words were shared. it was no surprise that the two ended up feeling more than just platonic affection for one another.

Like please he has to deal with the children and how ridiculous they are at training

OKAY SO FIRST let’s talk about each of them individually. (in order of their jersey numbers bc why not)

ushijima- so, his love language is acts of service. he’s not great at words, as has been established at length. and while he loves touching his boyfriends, and he does love doing so, he’s usually too nervous to ask. so instead he does things for them to make their lives easier. he organizes shirabu’s books for him when he falls asleep studying and brings him to bed. he’s watched youtube tutorials to be able to change semi’s guitar strings properly when he hears him complain that they’re wearing down. he always makes sure he has some sort of over the counter painkillers for when taichi’s allergies are acting up, or an extra jacket because ohira is 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘭𝘺 forgetting his own. he brings goshiki water and snacks when he notices him working on his serves in the gym, because he knows how easy it is to forget about it, and tendou never has to worry about actually putting his homework in his bag, because even if he doesn’t, it ends up there anyway. and he always makes sure yamagata is warm enough, because he’s super short, y’know? he gets cold easy. and if he gets hugs or kisses from his grateful boyfriends? so be it. he had tendou show him how to make photo collages so he could have his favorite picture of every one of them as his lock screen. he could easily look at them for hours.

semi- at first glance, semi seems a little mean and intense. he certainly doesn’t seem like the type to simp over a group of boys so very different from each other. but at any given moment, he can be found staring wide eyed at at least one of his boyfriends. he just thinks they’re all so.. 𝘢𝘩𝘩𝘩𝘩! he might as well wear a sign that says ‘will do anything for kisses,’ because he will, in fact, do anything for kisses. not that he really has to, because his boyfriends will freely give them. they constantly turn to ask him something just to find him like 👁👁. he sits in pretty much all of their laps. only shirabu and yamagata are smaller than him, but they’ll still hold him because he’s pretty. he also makes ushijima, reon and sometimes goshiki carry him around. has to make sure everyone gets to bed at a reasonable hour, even though he never does so himself. he writes songs about them that they’ll never hear.

reon- loves to carry semi around. loves to carry basically everyone around, actually. he is the transportation of the team, in that way and that he’s the one whose car everyone piles into all the time. the only one who can pick up ushijima. he doesn’t often let him, but his favorite moments are when he does. actually.. his favorite moments are any spent with his beautiful boyfriends. he makes everyone food, and eventually he gets a pretty little kitchen assistant by the name of semi eita. he needed help one day, and since then he just likes to have him there. (he doesn’t help. he just sits there and looks pretty. hands him an ingredient once in a while.) he learned how to cook from his mom, and all of them love his food.

tendou- the most physically affectionate of everyone. constantly climbing his boyfriends, no matter what’s going on. everyone goes to him for emotional support and advice, since he’s the most in touch with his own feelings. he loves to cuddle, especially if whoever’s cuddling him is asleep and he can play with their hair. loves to play with people’s hair. goshiki’s especially, because it’s just so soft? how is it so soft? he has pictures of everyone plastered all over his walls, both in his dorm at shiratorizawa and at home. he’s also covered his wallet in group photos so he can look at their beautiful faces all the time. he uses cliché pet names, but specific ones for each of them. he calls goshiki baby, because he simply is a baby. semi is his angel, reon is his sweetheart. shirabu is his prince, or princess if he feels like being annoying. taichi is honey, because of the color of his hair. he calls ushijima love, to remind him that he is, in fact, loved. and yamagata is darling, because in tendou’s mind, darling is for cute little things. and, yamagata is tiny. (lmao gottem)

goshiki- has NO idea how he got to be part of something so wonderful. he’s an awkward first year dating his amazing upperclassmen. they’re all so talented and kind and attractive, what do they see in him? has, on multiple occasions, caused strain on the physical health of the others by being too adorable to handle. the most verbally affectionate. when he has a positive thought about one of his boyfriends, he simply has to say it out loud. loves to kiss their hands. he can’t explain why, he just does. also, for those shorter than him (semi, shirabu and yamagata) kisses on the top of the head are common. he likes those, especially, because he gets to feel tall and important. he’s already important to them, of course. semi pretty much never stops fretting over him, yelling at him about eating and sleeping and all that good stuff. purely out of love, of course.

shirabu- he still hasn’t figured out how to tell them he loves them, but they- and everyone else in school- knows. he’s always following one of them around, and of course.. being 𝘵𝘩𝘦 shiratorizawa volleyball team, one of them is always getting confessed to. obviously he can’t be there every time, but when he is, he takes care of it. his hand is in whichever of his boyfriends has caught someone’s eye within seconds, and he’s nuzzling them like a cat and mumbling that he’s 𝘵𝘪𝘳𝘦𝘥.. 𝘣𝘢𝘣𝘺, 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘸𝘦 𝘱𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘦 𝘨𝘰..? of course, he gets his wish, every single time. he knows just how to get what he wants. the tactic includes a sweet voice and a few kisses on the cheek, and he’s golden. the protector of the group.

kawanishi- he’s not great at expressing his feelings either, but he’s working on it every day. he isn’t super verbal, but his favorite thing to do is lay in one of their laps and just listen to them talk about whatever may come to their minds. semi plays his guitar for him a lot, and reon will just read to him and play with his hair. and that’s a complete weakness of his. having his hair played with, i mean. the first time anyone found it out was when they were all sitting around listening to goshiki babble about volleyball. he was just absentmindedly running his fingers through his hair, but taichi was asleep in minutes. it was adorable.

yamagata- by far, the loudest and most chaotic about his love. proposes to them in the hallways. screams 𝘪 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 as he walks away. his social media is absolutely plastered with their faces. everyone and their mother knows how he feels about them. he gets so excited to see them, even if they’ve only been apart for a few minutes, or literally just woke up after falling asleep together. does not have a favorite- every one of them gets that special hayato brand of affection, every time.

they’re all very different people, but they work well together. they’re busy people, so group dates don’t happen very often, but they hang out in different combinations so they all see each other as much as they can. they all clear their sundays, when there’s no practice, and spend those days together. a lot of the time it’s just cuddles and movies or talking, a nice break from their busy lives. snacks, music, whatever the hell they feel like. it’s their day! semi and kawanishi usually end up asleep first, then they get swaddled up together so they can cuddle and keep warm. shirabu hangs by them to play with their hair and say he loves them while they can’t hear him. ushijima and reon are available as chairs for whoever feels like sitting on them, which usually ends up being goshiki. tendou and yamagata will come cuddle, as well. all in all, they just use that time to be close to each other.

Same anon: you don't have to draw everything in pastels per say you just have to find a way to reframe the context of the piece from a horror or shock illustration to something with an awe and respectful atmosphere.

Maybe draw a surgeon doing self surgery with assistants in the same way someone might draw a mechanic repairing a car. Or draw a flesh monster (affectionate) living a peaceful but mundane life, with laughing and joking with coworkers, crying at the sight of a cute dog, participating in imaginary tea parties with a step child.

You just have to figure out how to subverse and reframe the context. Control the mood!

Idk if you've seen it but there's this one illustration of a royal child posing for a portrait with her beloved meat monster pet (there was a sequel illustration where the meat monster pet had meat monster puppies) it was all drawn in ernst with little desire to shock. There was also those illustrations of large skeletons roaming around russia but to the illustrated people they were so mundane and part of everyday life and the removed the horror from it
