BG3 Blogging: Karlach on the Beach

I had to replay a lot of this campaign twice: once after having realized I'd missed the tiefling party (and all the important character interaction therein), and later because of the huge Patch 7 update making old mods unusable.

But hey, more replay means more details to observe.

Stuff I noticed upon deciding not to skip the opening cinematic: the very first thing we see is an engraving of a huge brain, with an illithid standing in front of it in an authoritative pose, and a lot of humanoids bowing before it. I don't think this mural is actually on the nautiloid ship, though: you can find it in the illithid colony under Moonrise Towers.

One of the rune slates you can pick up on the nautiloid ship mentions an individual not connected to the overmind, and advises caution.

Also, one of the victims on board the ship is wearing what we later find out to be an amulet of the Absolute.

I'm not sure how randomized the book drops are, but while going through the "starter dungeon" near the beach this time I got, like, six copies each of The Curse of the Vampyr, The Unclaimed (about a Sharran who sacrificed her entire mind to her goddess and got nothing for it), and that one with short interviews about Bhaalspawn (a hint about the Dark Urge, and also telling a bit of the story of BG2).

I get it, Withers, you're dropping hints about some of the companions.

Even before I got the mod to show Origin-specific dialogue, you can often tell which options are Karlach's because of how sweary they are. Which... relatable.

As I mentioned, I did a lot of rambling on Discord about this game. I'll be indicating my friends' input with animal emoji.

Me: The Infernal script on Karlach's horn reads: "My champion, the Demonsbane. My blood is her strength."

🐇: The other horn says, "Property of Zariel. If found, please return to #3 Zariel Way, Avernus, Hell." Me: Thankfully, that's the horn that got broken off.

Apparently the default subclass for Karlach is Wildheart, but that doesn't make much sense to me. "your powers come from your strong bond with nature"? She's a city girl who became the Fury of Avernus. Where's the nature? Previously I went the Wild Magic route, but didn't find it all that useful. (Protective Lights? Great! Vines that entangle everyone but her? Less great.) This time I went with Berserker, so she can knock people down by hurling random items at them.

This means I'm mostly relying on Wyll to hear the animal dialogue, but 🤷‍♀️. Me: ...Ok, now I want someone to do a video of Karlach yelling "SPOOOOOOOOON!" like the Tick before she yeets a spoon at someone. 🐍: Which spoon? Is it the eyeball spoon? Me: BG3 does not have eyeball spoons! It has eyeball knitting needles!

Just as a heads up I haven’t shifted to either of these DRs yet but I’m still gonna he answering for The Elementalists DR and Academy Inferno DR! 💞This also got long sooo under the cut it goes

🐈‍⬛ : BALANCED BLACK CAT . . . have you made yourself overpowered (no judgement btw) or are there aspects of your being that counteract your powerful nature?

The Elementalists: So I'm following the game's story line mostly which means yes I am overpowered lol. I'm like a demi god kind of except they aren't called gods they're called sources. I'm known for being the only sun attuned on campus which is a third tier attunement so everyone has pretty high expectations for my magical capabilities. I do prefer my second attunement which is air so I guess that kind of nerfs me? Idrc though cause I'm using air magic to ZOOM through campus!

Academy Inferno: I can't blame any source material for this one cause I made it all up but I did make myself overpowered again 😅 I'm pretty much known as the strongest necromancer and I scripted that my magic was so powerful it took a few years longer to plateau than normal. What can I say I just wanna be epic at magic 🤷

🐇 : RATIONAL RABBIT . . . what are the beliefs and or prophecies that people in your desired reality believe in simply because of tradition?

The Elementalists: Okay this one is kind of sad but blood magic has been illegal for a good while because this ONE GUY (I hate him so much) started murdering people to achieve ultimate power. Like blood magic was used for healing and a lot of other good stuff but he gave it a bad name which sucks cause my teacher is a blood attuned and she has to hide it but she's literally good vibes personified!!! Raife when I catch you Raife 🤬

Academy Inferno: This one is more fun though cause a lot of witches believe that if they become powerful enough a group of people can combine their magic and form ✨time magic✨. It hasn't been done but it has resulted in a lot of party games and sleepovers dedicated to trying to get it. It's a famous rumor/myth that the Academy's headmaster got the closest to succeeding and that's why he's lived such a long time.

🦨 : SOFT SKUNK . . . what are a few of your favorite memories in your desired reality? what kind of emotion to these memories bring about? who else is in these memories?

The Elementalists: Okay okay this is a tough one but I'm gonna try my best. The day I got my familiar, Tim, is a VERY happy memory. He's literally just a little guy. A fella. So dopey and sweet 🥰🥰 We got our familiars at the start of class and spent the rest of the class bonding with them and I just admired him for most of it. Another memory is my first birthday party that my friends threw after I told them I never had one growing up. They did not care if it wasn't actually my birthday they just wanted to party lol. It was also my first "birthday" celebrated with my estranged twin brother so yaaayy :D

Academy Inferno: This one is easier but requires a little backstory. I mentioned my magic plateaued later than it was supposed to so I was moved into a facility where I could be monitored to make sure my magic wouldn't hurt me or anyone else (it was a good place dw) but yeah the day I got the okay to leave and attend school was a GOOD day. I got to leave and celebrate with my family a bit before school started which was nice. Another good memory is meeting my friend Iridian on her first day of school. If anyone has seen "The Parent Trap" think of that camp scene where the girl helped pull the other girl's bag out of the car and that's how me and Iridian met lol. She was born on Earth so was new to magic stuff and she saw me walking past and was like "we're friends now can you help me" and I just went along with it.

Due to your question not being the most clear, I’m just going to pull a few cards on your advantageous aspects, challenging aspects and the action you should take going forward. The situation is very competitive and demanding. Studying, interviews, anything of that sort is going to take a lot out of you. In fact, the job itself is very demanding. You need to stand your ground and not stray away, that’s very important. This is a great opportunity but is going to require great effort. You seem to be very capable of this job, you’re intelligent and understand the subject at hand very well. Also, you’re good at dealing with secretive and research-ish stuff. However, keep in mind that this is something that you’re not going to be able to show until after you’ve gotten the job. Education-wise, you seem to be pretty qualified as well. While, you might want this job, if by any chance, you don’t secure it, you don’t really have to worry, you’ve got a thirst for knowledge and know how to do whatever you are to do well so it’s going to be their loss. You seem to have to make some sort of decision though. Also, if you have interviews, it’s important for you to be discerning, learn how to show your true charms instead of acting like you’re reading off a script, just go in with confidence and stand firm even when faced with criticism. Unfortunately for you, the people who are applying for the job and hence, competing with you are on the same level so it greatly depends on your individual charms and luck. You’ll have to work really hard. I’m not sure why but you’re struggling with concentration. You’re not being able to prepare for this. You need to concentrate otherwise, the way you’re going to perform is going to be of low and poor quality which will lead to you being mediocre in the eyes of those who are choosing who’s going to secure the job. Learn how to pace yourself otherwise you’re going to burn yourself which will lead to the same results. When you have interviews (if you have any), put yourself forward with a certain assertiveness and communicate effectively. DON’T BE HOSTILE IF YOU’RE PUT IN SUCH A SPOT THOUGH. Please maintain your composure even when facing harsh criticism and pressure. There could be something that you’re missing somewhere. I’m not sure what it is but while preparing, if you skip over anything, that could come up as a question or something. I do not recommend selective studying. There’s a high chance that you’re either going to land the job or receive another opportunity which leads you to landing a job in an institutional setting. Keep your mind clean and pace yourself! ☆ Tsukasa can be pretty loud, but he always makes sure to tone things down around you. Whenever it's your both of you, he's calm, and he likes to just sit there and quietly enjoy the moment.

☆ He's very confident in himself and others, so you can bet he'll be showering you with compliments and will encourage you to be more confident. He of course won't force this, confidence takes a while! But he'll be with you through your whole journey. All he wants is for you to love and be proud of yourself.

☆ Since you dislike loud sounds, he always makes sure you know what show he's doing. If it's a calmer, more sentimental one, and you want to go, he'll make sure to bring you earplugs or something that'll block noise for when the show's over. The audience at their shows are quite loud, after all. Sometimes the venue allows him to reserve you a seat at the end of a row so you won't be surrounded.

☆ Tsukasa is a big brother, so he's naturally very caring. He'll be there to comfort you whenever you need, and he always knows just the right things to say.

☆ He also dislikes spiders, so whenever there is one near both of you, and there's not another person with you... Let's just say maybe if you encourage him enough he'll kill it for you. If you kill a spider or any kind of insect for him, you'll probably be his hero for life.

☆ Sometimes, Tsukasa will ask you to help him with script reading. (He does this on every play, but for the louder ones, he makes sure to act as if it were the real thing just so you can enjoy it and he can see that beautiful smile of yours.)

☆ He makes sure to remember as much as he can about you. Your dislikes, likes, hobbies... As said before, his whole goal is to see people smile. At first it was for Saki, but now he also does as much as he can for you as well.

☆ He actually really enjoys seeing you get protective. Rui sometimes makes him do some really crazy and scary things, so he's always grateful when you tell Rui to leave him alone.

☆ Tsukasa probably walked in on you singing once and was left in awe. Sometimes he encourages you to sing when it's just the two of you. He'll even play piano or sing with you if you want him to!

☆ Since you said that you're a bit clumsy, Tsukasa probably keeps a hold on your hand whenever you're out together and also offers to help you carry anything he sees you struggling with. He won't be annoying and try to carry everything you have. Unless you ask him to, then he'll be more than happy to help.
