hi anon! i just wanted to say that this isn’t too much at all! i have a history of self harm as well (3 years clean tho!) and it sucks to never see it represented in fanfic. i hope you’re doing well and taking care of yourself💚

maybe he invites you to go swimming once it’s summer and you’re hesitant, but he can’t figure out why

“do you not know how to swim? or do you just not like it? what’s up?”

and you aren’t sure how to answer because it’s really about the exposure more than anything. but luigi wants to take you to the beach with him oh so badly, so you eventually agree, deciding that you can just cover yourself appropriately and not get in the water

but luigi is nothing if not observant, so as you’re about to leave he comes upstairs to grab the sunscreen and catches what you’re wearing

“you know we’re going to the beach, right? what are you doing wearing long sleeves? you’re not even gonna bring a bathing suit?”

he’s just bombarding you with questions and the guilt of keeping something from him is getting to you, pressure on top of undeniable pressure, and the band of secrecy inside your brain just snaps like a twig

you strip off your clothes so that you’re down to your underwear and luigi can see you, all of you—all the blemishes and scars littered on your body, some aged and some fresher. he sees all the hurt that you’ve been hiding from him all along and it breaks him into pieces like shattered glass

i do think he would cry. it would happen very quickly and he would try to control it because he doesn’t want to make you feel any worse, but i think it would just be too much for him to take in at once. he’d have big crocodile tears welling in his eyes as he asks you “did you do that to yourself?”, even though he already knows the answer, and when you confirm it he feels like he just took a gut punch from someone with a fist 3x the size of his head

“i didn’t know,” he would say, “i had no idea. why didn’t you tell me sooner?” and if you express that you were in any way worried about his reaction he’ll be super reassuring, like “i would never think any less of you for something like this” and “you could’ve told me you were struggling, you can tell me anything”

you guys don’t go to the beach, but you do get held in his big strong arms for a long while, with him rocking you back and forth and whispering his affections to you

it would scare him and throw him into a spiral of anxiety, because what do you mean his baby has been carrying all of this alone, and in such a violent manner? but he would never be condescending or insulting about it. he may not fully understand but he tries his absolute best to. i could definitely see him reading about self-harm and what drives people to develop such behaviors to better grasp the problem and how he can help you. would be a big advocate of harm reduction when it comes to you, and he would keep around fidget toys for when you have an urge and need something to distract yourself with

he only asks of you one thing: “any time you want to do this again, you come to me. okay?”
